There are always well-known developers and games that predominate the gaming market.

Last year brought us heavy hitters such as God of War: Ragnarok, Horizon Forbidden West, Dying Light 2, and Modern Warfare 2 Remake, but there are also a lot of hidden gems that went unnoticed.

To make up for this injustice, we've put together a list of these underrated wonders from 2022 that, in our opinion, were overlooked but are totally worth your attention.

From ignored triple-A games to gorgeous and ambitious indie darlings, these are the top 15 underrated games of 2022.

15. Olli Olli World (Switch, PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

Developed by Roll7 and published by Private Division, OlliOlli World is a charming love letter to the old skateboarding games of the past with a modern tweaking to its mechanics.

With a focus on player choice and exploration of a colorful and cartoonified 2D world. The game has a variety of stages, each with its own specific difficulties and goals.

Players can customize their skater's skills and look, participate in different events to win prizes and unlock new content.

Gameplay mechanics are simple and easy to learn, but a bit hard to master. A variety of tricks and combos are also available to execute.

The game's soundtrack also contributes to the overall enjoyable and energetic vibe giving it a kind of cheerful Saturday morning cartoon vibe to it.

OlliOlli World is an excellent addition to the skateboarding genre overall thanks to its distinctive art design and fun gameplay.

It strikes a good mix between accessibility and difficulty, making it a game that can be enjoyed by both casual and hardcore players if there are even any hardcore players to this fun and colorful game.

14. Cult of The Lamb (macOS, Switch, PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

I cannot stress enough how much I love this game. Demons and cute animals? YES

The cutesy and utterly demonic rogue-like action-adventure game "Cult of the Lamb" was created by Massive Monster and released by Devolver Digital.

The protagonist of the game is, well, a lamb who has been chosen to lead a cult after it got possessed by a living hat made out of pure demonic energy, so yeah.

As the cult leader, the player must appoint followers, construct and improve the base of operations, and engage in defensive combat with the game's enemies.

The game has a compelling and distinctive plot with a bleak but comical tone. I mean it's about raising a cult so that's to be expected.

The game's art style adds to its appeal that makes Cult of The Lamb uniquely aesthetic.

The gameplay, which combines resource management, exploration, and constant fights with the heretics against your cult, makes for an enjoyable but also tough experience.

The bosses in the game are named after real-life demons in different forms of literature.

But seeing the demons be stylized in terrifying but cute little sprites makes their fear factor to be diminished somewhat, but terrifying to still think about.

Overall, Cult of the Lamb is a fun and very well-made game that will keep players invested for its whole run time.

13. Immortality (PC, Xbox Series X/S, Android, iOS, macOS)

Those masks look eerily realistic if you ask me

Taking inspiration from games such as Erica (2021) and The Quiet Man (2018) is the video game "Immortality" created by Sam Barlow and published by Half Mermaid Production.

Immortality is a narrative-driven point-and-click mystery game focused on a retired actress and the people in her life.

A distinctive and interesting atmosphere is produced through the game's integration of live-action video, interactive dialogue, and exploration.

With fantastic character development and a gripping plot that maintains players' interest throughout its runtime, the pacing and atmosphere also keep up in keeping the player engaged and intrigued.

The incorporation of live-action scenes gives the game a more realistic feel, while the interactive dialogue lets players change the course of the plot based on their decisions.

The game's main themes of mortality and memory are thoroughly explored, giving players enough to think about long after the game is over.

Immortality scratches the itch for gamers who are fans of the point-and-click genre. With exceptional character work and a story to die for, Immortality is a treat for all gamers.

12. Vampire Survivors (macOS, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Android, iOS)

With gameplay this chaotic, it's a wonder why even I have not heard about this gam

Vampire Survivors is a survival horror rogue-like shoot-em-up developed and published by one man named Luca Galante.

The game is set In a post-apocalyptic world where vampires have taken control and humanity is on the verge of extinction.

But despite the title, none of the monsters you encounter are actually vampires but rather just monsters. Why it has a vampire in its title is unknown but hey.

The player assumes the character of a survivor who must find their way through the perilous world, fend against the monsters, and scavenge for supplies in order to survive.

Players are kept on the edge of their seats by the game's dramatic action and its endless wave upon wave of enemies where your main goal is to simply stay alive as long as possible.

By dispatching these enemy waves, you earn weapons, and relics for subsequent waves, and even unlock new characters.

The relative quietness of vampire survivors is criminal as its fast-paced action and surprisingly great story have gotten recognized to the point that in April 2022, a live-action TV series is being adapted with Luca Galante overseeing the whole operation himself.

11. The Quarry (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

If the exorcist lady from the Insidious film series aint in your horror game, it will suck

Acting as the spiritual successor to 2015’s Until Dawn, Supermassive Games returned with The Quarry.

Players take control of nine teenage counselors while being hunted by otherworldly monsters, curses, and hostile campers on their final night at Hackett's Quarry summer camp.

Many decisions that players make throughout the game could have a significant impact on the story's plot, relationships, character development, and resolution.

Depending on the player's choices, any one of the nine playable characters could live or die.

Featuring an ensemble cast with David Arquette, Ariel Winter, Brenda Song, and renowned horror actress Linda Shaye of Insidious fame.

It delivers stunning performances and pulse-pounding horror and drop of dime decision-making where any of your decisions will basically shape how good or bad your ending is.

Its underratedness was brought upon by its release date as it was overshadowed by other big triple-A titles such as Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring.

It's gone under the radar since but for fans of the original Until Dawn or the other subsequent Supermassive Games releases, The Quarry is a definite must-play.

10. The Callisto Protocol (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

Looking really subtle with the Dead Space references

The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror game created by Striking Distance Studios and released by Krafton.

It is regarded as the Dead Space series' spiritual successor and is directed by Glen Schofield, one of the series' co-creators.

Players follow the exploits of Jacob Lee, who is transferred to a jail institution on one of Jupiter's moons Callisto as he battles infected inmates with an unidentified sickness while learning the facility's sinister secrets.

Players explore a number of levels while collecting resources and fending against infected inmates during gameplay.

Callisto Protocol was overshadowed by its underwhelming sales performance and day 1 bugs that forced players to abandon it just a few days after its release.

When the Dead Space remake was released just a few months later, Callisto Protocol was completely overshadowed and even forgotten since.

But for players who want to scratch that necromantic itch, Callisto Protocol is a lovely and recommended play for players of the cosmic horror genre.

9. Nobody Saves the World (PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

I absolutely LOVE this game. And I’ll tell you why

Nobody Saves the World is an action RPG created and developed by DrinkBox Studios. Viewed from a top-down perspective, the game offers a cooperative multiplayer option in addition to a solo mode.

In the game, Nobody, a blank-state character with a wand, is controlled by the player. They can change into 18 different forms, including magicians, robots, and dragons, thanks to the wand.

Each form starts the game with two fundamental capabilities, but as players advance, new skills will become available.

Additionally, the stats and abilities of these characters vary. It is possible to combine the skills and powers of various Forms to produce deadly strikes.

When a Form is unlocked, other Forms can benefit from it in gameplay.

Players must complete tasks and gameplay objectives as they explore the procedurally generated “overworld” and dungeons in order to gain experience for improvements and Star, the game equivalent to cash, that is needed to unlock the game's numerous dungeons.

These dungeons are full of foes and traps, but if players investigate each room carefully, they can also discover secret treasure chests and keys.

The lone respawn place in each of the game's dungeons is situated where the player is due to face an enemy boss.

It's kinda like dark souls but the bonfire is exactly in the middle of the arena against Ornstein and Smough.

8. Saints Row (PS4, PS5, Stadia, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

The reboot to the legendary GTA clone turned insane power trip simulator, Saints Row returned in 2022 published by Deep Silver.

Mainly focused on its single-player narrative, it is set in Santo Ileso, a fictional city that is largely modeled on Las Vegas, and it centers on a group of four friends who create their own outlaw gang named The Saints.

Via taking control of other criminal organizations in the city, they plan to expand and establish The Saints throughout the city.

The third-person open-world game can be explored on foot or by the numerous vehicles available.

Players can call in non-playable gang members to help them fight enemies while employing a variety of weapons and other items.

Players take control of the gang's leader, known as "the Boss," who has a number of highly configurable attributes, just like in earlier Saints Row games.

Outside of the main plot, players are free to roam Santo Illeso and take part in a variety of side quests.

Additionally, two players can advance in their individual games while playing through the single-player campaign in a cooperative online multiplayer mode.

Saints Row however was plagued by bugs, glitches, and a campaign that was sorely lacking compared to the previous Saints Row installments.

Gameplay-wise and content though, the game more than delivers on those aspects.

Coupled with a soundtrack that is impressive despite the numerous faults it has, Saints Row can definitely be a worthy time killer for anyone who has been missing the Saints Row series.

7. Stacklands (PC, macOS)

It's kinda like Yugi-Oh but replaces the monsters with farm animals and food

Stacklands was created by Sokpop Collective and plays like a card game but replaces the contents of the card with food, building material, and a little bit of animal-on-animal fighting.

The gameplay is simple but highly addictive once you get the hang of it. Stacking cards on a card and creating new ones is rewarding for the player and the villagers which you’re trying to keep alive in the game.

The card-selling mechanic is also highly rewarding where you can sell extra cards for card packs that focus on farming, cooking, or building.

The goal of the game is ultimately to feed the villagers at the end of every moon or they will inevitably starve to death.

There are also combat mechanics in the game to satisfy any bloodlust in case the mellow stuff gets boring. When a villager runs across an enemy, a fight starts automatically.

Bears, rats, and even goblins await the player in this charming card game. By arming your villagers with weapons or forcing them to cooperate against adversaries, you can improve their combat skills.

Stacklands was ultimately overshadowed by the big triple-A games of early 2022. But for players who like strategy and a more mellow tone of gameplay then Stacklands is a definite must play

6. Perfect Tides (PC, macOS)

8-bit aesthetics are always a plus to any kind of game out there

If you’re a human being and have gone through the thing that’s called “puberty” and “growing up” then you know how awkward everything feels in that time of great confusion and changes.

Perfect Tides explores the pain and excitement of adolescence perfectly via its cute point-and-click mechanic and story.

You take on the role of Mara, a young writer who is hooked on the internet and lives on an island paradise in the year 2000.

The game takes us through the beauty and solitude of the island, the trials of family life, school life, and an ever-evolving search for love, friendship, and experience over the course of the four seasons of the year.

The gameplay features a point-and-click system where you can gather inventory, engage with people, and explore the island setting.

The story is a character-driven and richly narrated mini masterpiece capturing the process of growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s.

But again despite all its quirkiness and beauty, it was overshadowed by games such as Sifu, Dying Light, Horizon Forbidden West, and Elden Ring, it got overshadowed and left to the wayside.

But with review scores giving it 5 stars and players giving it an excellent rating, it's high time to experience a perfect change of tides with Perfect Tides.

5. Evil West (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

Coming back to one of our lists is 2022’s ridiculously underrated triple-A release, Evil West.

Fast-paced and jam-packed with action, Evil West was created by Flying Wild Hog and released by Focus Home Interactive.

Players assume the character of Jesse Rentier, a gunslinger of an alternate and twisted wild west on a mission to prevent an ancient evil from bringing hell on earth.

Hack-and-slash fighting, long-range shooting, and magic powers are all mixed together in the game, with each of them having their own upgrades as the game progresses.

With beautiful character models and landscapes that bring the game's universe to life, the graphics and visuals are outstanding and even earned it a spot on one of our lists before for most beautiful games on the PS4 despite it being a late addition to the console's game library.

Adding to the tense and atmospheric atmosphere of the game are the music and sound effects for the monster and the ambient noise in each of the game's stages.

Why it suddenly became forgotten and underrated was because of different factors. A story and universe that didn't realize its full potential added to the in-game action that can get dull and repetitive.

On top of all this, some bugs and technical problems were reported by gamers on its day-one release date.

Not to mention that God of War Ragnarok was just released a few weeks ago when Evil West was released ultimately leading to its obscurity before it was even released.

Still, if you want a good old linear PS3-style hack-and-slash fighting game, then Evil West is more than worth your time and money.

4. Neon White (PC, Switch, PS4, PS5)

Demon samurai masks and anime-style protagonists with guns are always appreciated in-game

The frantic first-person shooter and puzzle platforming game Neon White was developed by Angel Matrix and published by Annapurna Interactive.

The game is set in Heaven with the player assuming control of Neon White, an assassin who recently passed away and was sent to hell but must now kill demons who invaded to possibly earn a spot and stay in Heaven.

The gameplay of Neon White is one of its kind because it combines card-based abilities with first-person shooting techniques.

The player gathers cards that represent various skills, and these cards can be utilized to unlock new abilities or alter ones they already have.

The graphics of the game are gorgeous with vivid neon colors and distinctive character designs.

The soundtrack fits right into the atmosphere and settings of the game and adds the right finishing touch to whatever encounter the players have at any given moment.

But the story of the game is something of note. It has several plot twists that keep the player on their toes.

Reasons for its underrated status largely boils down to its release date of December 13 where players are already winding down their gaming backlogs and replaying or playing the heavy hitters of 2022 which ultimately led to Neon White’s obscurity in the gaming landscape.

Despite this, Neon White is a fantastic game that blends distinctive gameplay mechanics with gorgeous graphics and an engaging narrative.

There is a lot to love here for those who like fast-paced first-person shooters and card-based games.

3. Tiny Tina’s Wonderland (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

Tina returns with the prettiest horse in all the lands, Butt Stallion

Fans of the Borderlands series rejoice as our favorite 13-year-old demolitions expert returns with characters old and new as we are taken to a new game of Bunkers and Badasses in Gearbox Software’s new spin-off of the popular loot and shoot franchise, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.

Set In a colorful and humorous world created by Tina herself, the game offers a distinctive fusion of fantasy and role-playing features.

With a variety of character classes and customizable weapons, the gameplay is ever-changing and is never the same in any kind of playthrough.

The game’s story is also a noteworthy achievement as it has managed to craft a world that perfectly blends the crazy cell-shaded world of Borderlands with famous tabletop roleplaying games such as Dungeons and Dragons.

Borderlands once tried this before in Borderlands 2’s most famous DLC, Assault on Dragon Keep and Wonderlands is the full-fledged follow-up to the beloved addition to the game.

What led to its obscurity however can also be attributed to its release date.

Released in the 1st quarter of 2022, gamers were too preoccupied with other triple-A heavy hitters which Wonderlands was unfortunately not a part of.

Despite this, Tiny Tina's Wonderland is a fantastic addition to the Borderlands series. With a distinctive fusion of genres and a well-designed universe, the game gives a novel new perspective on the beloved series.

Tiny Tina's Wonderland is unquestionably worth playing because of its captivating gameplay, compelling plot, and gorgeous graphics.

2. Rollerdrome (PC, PS4, PS5)

Always nice to see skating rinks accurately represented in-game

One of the most underrated and most enjoyable games of last year with review scores of critics and players going as high up as 10/10 is Roll7 and Private Division’s action-adventure game, Rollerdrome.

Players take control of Kara Hassan, a competitor in the dangerous Rollerdrome, where competitors must execute roller skating maneuvers while battling opponents with weapons.

In a third-person shooter, health is recovered by obtaining health pick-ups from killed adversaries, while ammunition is replenished by engaging in various roller-skating maneuvers.

Players skate through various stages while avoiding incoming attacks and using a bullet time feature to aim weapons.

Although the game's difficulty increases as players advance through the levels, they will gradually unlock stronger weapons like shotguns and grenade launchers.

Additionally, there are optional challenges at each stage that challenge players to accomplish tasks like killing enemies while pulling off tricks.

Unfortunately for Roll7, they had two underrated and underreported top-notch games of 2022 along with OlliOlli World.

Rollerdrome’s underratedness can be attributed to its almost zero marketing before release and its gameplay mechanics, although beautifully realized, but also alien to most players who had second thoughts about giving Rollerdrome a try.

Despite all the shortcomings of Rollerdrome, its review scores and its top-notch art style and addictive gameplay is more than enough reason to finally give it its flowers.

1. The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil In Me (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S)

Cigarette-smoking ghost zombies are a usual sighting in my country believe it or not

And the most underrated game of 2022 belongs to Supermassive again as it returns and caps off the first season of its Dark Pictures Anthology series with its most disturbing and impressive addition to its increasingly top-notch horror game collection, The Devil in Me.

The tale of H.H. Holmes' “Murder Castle” serves as an influence for The Devil in Me's story. H.H. Holmes is also known as America’s very first serial killer.

In order to record an episode of their series, five members of a documentary film crew are invited to a replica of the Holmes Hotel on an island in Michigan.

It doesn't take them long to realize they need to get off the island before a shadow and murderous force named Granthem Du'Met murders them.

Jessie Buckley, who is considered one of Ireland's best actresses of all time, was promoted as the game's principal actress, making her the fourth high-profile actor that Supermassive Games had chosen to play a part in the franchise after Ashley Tisdale, Shawn Ashmore, and Will Poulter.

The game's eye-catching visuals and eerie soundtrack will keep gamers on the edge of their seats.

Multiple endings are possible thanks to the branching storylines that Supermassive is known for, which encourages multiple playthroughs of the game.

Its underrated status can be attributed to numerous things before and after its release.

Its release date was a surefire way to kill off any hype around it as the usual suspect of God of War Ragnarok was to blame for it basically sucking out any and all attention of the gaming world to it.

On top of this, its pacing was an issue with fans and the character interactions and dialogues feel forced and cliched at worst.

Its quick-time events were also criticized as players felt like it detracted from the immersion that the game was in during tense moments.

Despite all these problems, The Devil in Me is a great final addition to the Dark Pictures Anthology with its main strength being its terrifying atmosphere and gorgeous visuals, and multiple endings, some of which are still even explored to this day.

15 Best Indie Horror Games Released in 2022

Forget about AAA horror games that promise scares and leave you yawning in your gamer chair. Forget about the reboots and rehashes that are more obvious cash grabs than the blatant cash-grabber titles with terrible gimmicks. It’s time to show some love for the indie game developers, men, and women who work around the clock on their passion projects for a chance to share their stories with an industry that would have slammed the door in their faces years ago.

The recent surge in horror indie games has created an incredible variety for gamers and horror fans, and here today are a select 15 that deserve your attention and guttural screams.

15) Her Name Was Fire - (PC)

Starting this list is a little indie game that deserves some love and respect for its execution. “Her Name Was Fire” dropped from Tissue Inu in October of 2022, and immediately it tried to carve a niche for itself in horror and twin-stick shooter games. The game's goal is to battle through the five stages of grief and vanish the Major Allegories, whose names borrow from the major Arcana from tarot cards. You must cast fireballs, quick dash, and prove your inner and outer strength to reach the next stage of grief before it completely consumes you.

This game takes inspiration from “Binding of Isaac: Rebirth” and “Vampire Survivors” and fully embraces its twin-stick style while carving its niche as a card-building roguelike, which I never thought those two terms would be used to describe one game. Power-ups and boosts take the form of tarot cards with newer names, i.e., The Crawler, which the player can select after leveling up and immediately use.

These boosts can be as simple as moving 20% faster or as effective as having a 30% chance your fireballs will burn enemies, allowing them to take more damage over time. With tarot cards changing at every level and death not limiting your options, there are many combinations to choose from and several ways to combat and overcome your grief.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 65/100

The game is bare-bones in plot and scares, and the gameplay can become repetitive, despite the tarot card stacking system and unique designs of the Major Allegories. However, it has replayability and is a fun little game that sparks the imagination and introduces newer horror fans to twin-stick shooters.

The sorceress in "Her Name is Fire" is fighting against the Major Allegory, The Hierophant. Not sure what water spells will do, but fighting back is better than being sucked underground by tentacles.

14) Prodeus - (PC/PS4/PS5/Xbox Cloud)

From twin-stick to single stick, we have an indie entry that will scratch that “Doom” itch and then some. Humble Games, the indie game publisher responsible for cult classic “Signalis,” released boomer shooter “Prodeus” in September of 2022. The unnamed main character the player assumes control of is a corrupted agent of Prodeus, the world's creator. Your goal: destroy Prodeus by any means. Luckily, these means include shotguns, railguns, magnums, and anything that can be fired or thrown at any enemy.

“Prodeus” plays the same as any boomer shooter, with a collection of weapons to choose from and satisfying explosions of guts and gore. The automap is a welcome feature that can easily guide players through each level. The game’s shaders can also be set to create more pixelated elements, allowing the player to choose how much of their experience can resemble older FPS games.

This works in tandem with the option to turn the enemies into pixel sprites, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in a shooter that looks and feels like it came from the 90s. Your only job from then on is to eviscerate creatures, smear Prodeus’ name, and have as much fun as possible.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 75/100

In a market with “Amid Evil,” and “Dusk,” “Prodeus” is a welcome addition to the boomer shooter roster and gives the player more freedom to tinker with its design elements.
While the horror is mostly surface-level, this is one of the more fun entries on the list, with hours of bloody baddie bashing at your disposal.

Prodeus' rogue agent blasts several enemies as they make their way through the building's inner workings. Aim for the guy with red eyes in front! He's a charger!

13) SCP Secret Files - (PC/PS4/PS5/Xbox Series X|S/Switch)

I won’t lie; I’m excited to talk about this one. As an internet horror junkie growing up in the early 2000s, I found myself diving headlong into SCP files like The Plague Doctor, the Little Misters, and the Builder Bear. So a game like this is a dream come true. “SCP Secret Files” was shown off as early as 2021 and finally released in September 2022 from Gamezoo Studio and Pixmain.

The game follows Karl, a new archivist, as he assists Dr. Richard Hamm of the SCP Foundation, known to “Secure, Contain, and Protect” objects, beings, etc., that pose a danger to humans or themselves. The player then assists Karl in observing and archiving several SCP, learning their stories and committing them to memory, even if the information is best left forgotten.

This game is a visual feast from start to finish. Each SCP report is given its own presentation, so the gameplay never stays stale, and every story moves along at its own pace. One record may be a survival horror, and the next may be a storybook and rhythm game. No matter the form, this anthology horror game is an excellent introduction to the sprawling lore of the SCP Foundation, and playing it is a real experience for horror fans and indie game fans.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 80/100

The scares are genuine in a few of the stories, and the nature of the anomalies will leave you questioning whether what you saw was real or if it was another fabrication.
Not all of the SCPs presented are dangerous or terrifying. While you may expect horrors, be prepared to experience heartbreak.

A mannequin looks on as Bella, an agent of the SCP Foundation, retrieves a package from a site containing SCP-701. I think I understand why people are creeped out by these things now.

12) POPGOES ARCADE - (PC)

I never thought I would recommend a game like this to anyone, but then again, I never thought disco would be popular again, but here we are. “POPGOES ARCADE” is a “Five Nights at Freddy’s” fangame - you heard that right - that incorporates original characters with Scott Cawthon’s lore as part of the “Fazbear Fanverse.”

While the original game, “POPGOES: The Dead Forest,” came out in 2020, the version on Steam includes the original and the added DLC content of “POPGOES and the Machinist.” The game follows Popgoes, a weasel mascot, as they find scraps, stop the animatronic corruption, and defeat the King before time runs out.

The game is framed in an arcade cabinet with a retro 8-bit style, paying homage to the minigames founds in the hidden layers of the original “Five Nights at Freddy’s” games. The only difference is this game runs longer than a usual FNAF title, with more achievements and secrets to unlock.

The gameplay is RPG based, allowing for the customization of weapons, items, and allies on and off the battlefield. While leveling up isn’t a complete option, you can upgrade Popgoes and your character, ensuring your victory against the animatronics you once called your friends.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 75/100

Once you look past the game’s inspiration, you can see it has genuine charm and imagination at its core, providing a unique blend of horror and retro RPG gaming for the indie scene.

Popgoes comes across a giant hole in the ground of a bar with Minora Mouse. They’d be cuter if they weren’t animatronics that could snap you in half.

11) Her World - (PC)

Visual novels are not as easy to create as people think they are. Artwork, story, composition - these elements need to be crafted carefully and placed in a way that makes the story and characters shine. The same can be said for horror visual novels. Korean visual novel “Her World” dropped in October of 2022 from Taleshop Co., Ltd. and has garnered little to no response from fans outside of the visual novel circle.

The story is simple, with an unnamed main character running from an unknown incident and winding up in an alternate world thanks to a mishap in a hospital elevator. There he runs into three women: Hyeon-ah, a brunette who brandishes a knife; Yuri, a silver-haired sourpuss with a bandage on her head; and Woobi, a rain-coat-clad child who is far more mature than she appears to be. It soon becomes apparent the protagonist needs to leave this world, lest they succumb to the strange black monsters or the girls they so desperately wish to save.

It’s rare to see a horror visual novel weave an intense and engaging story with its characters at the center while never resorting to shock material - “Saya no Uta,” I’m looking at you. Every character has something important to say, do, and never overstays their welcome or overshadows another character. It makes talking to them and moving along in the story all the more enjoyable.

As a bonus, added content in the game can be unlocked thanks to a unique gameplay mechanic involving quests. These quests are done through retro RPG-style gameplay, with more becoming unlocked as you interact with the leading ladies.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 75/100

The story can be vague at times, and some parts can lag, but the payoff is tremendous, with all stories being tied together in a neat bow.
The game has an anti-frustration feature: the quests can be skipped without consequence, allowing you to read the story without succumbing to ludonarrative dissonance.

The main character looks on as Hyeong-Ah, one of the main characters of "Her World," holds a knife out at them. Okay, think clearly before you make your next move. She can't just stab you. Right?

10) Fobia - St. Dinfna Hotel - (PC/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S/PS4/PS5)

Now for an entry that I classify as not only South American horror but also as a step in a new direction for survival horror. Maximum Games and Pulsatrix Studios released “Fobia - St. Dinfna Hotel” to limited fanfare. The main character, Roberto Liete Lopes, is sent to investigate the St. Dinfna Hotel in beautiful Santa Catarina in the South region of Brazil based on a tip he received from his friend, Stephanie.

Upon arrival, he and the player are whisked on a horrifying journey through time and space that crosses several boundaries of moral and mental thresholds, leaving both with the question of whether some mysteries should stay mysteries.

Much like in “Fatal Frame,” an antique camera with unique lenses is a vital artifact that’s necessary for plot progression and puzzle solving. Once acquired, the plot moves forward, turning what was thought to be a puzzle-solving walking simulator into a survival horror game with gun action.

The lenses show glimpses of other timelines or dimensions, which Roberto can use to find hidden objects or locate items in the same locations. How every item plays into one another, and how Roberto fits into this quantum conundrum, is ultimately for the player to discover, even if it means unwinding the fabric of reality.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 75/100

The plot is interesting, the monsters are unique, and the added camera mechanics are welcome to the survival horror genre.
The game isn’t without its fair share of bugs, unshakable camera speeds, and movement that becomes clunky as pathways grow narrow or blocked by flesh piles, but the game is worth checking out if you need something to scratch your “Resident Evil” itch.

Roberto fires his shotgun at an enemy in the halls of St. Dinfna, blowing its head into a blood gusher. Nothing beats a well-timed shotgun blast.

9) Martha is Dead - (PC/PS4/PS5/Xbox Series X|S)

A picture is worth a thousand words. However, more may be necessary when the story involves loss and abuse. “Martha is Dead” dropped from LKA and Wired Productions on February 24th, 2022, and was met with praise and controversy. The story takes place in WII and focuses on Giulia, twin sister to the titular Martha. After a strange night on the lake, Giulia finds Martha is missing.

In order to solve the mystery of what happened, she needs to pretend to be her sister to appease her demanding mother and prevent trouble. The stakes keep rising as Giulia must keep her true identity hidden and unearth long-buried secrets about her golden child sibling, shedding light on a truth Giulia never wanted to face.

This is another game on this list where a camera is necessary for plot progression and puzzle solving, but not in the same ways as other games here. An added mechanic is the development of the photos taken, allowing both Guilia and the player to see the truth hidden behind the presented image. The mechanics of the game also change depending on locations and plot development, i.e., a puppet theater in her childhood bedroom, a chase against a ghost, etc., which leads to the aforementioned controversy the title garnered.

The PlayStation versions of “Martha is Dead” were censored, removing two disturbing and graphic body horror sections of the game. The plot structure was kept the same, but the scenes were scrubbed from the product. Luckily, no part of the game is compromised with this removal, allowing it to tell a story of a girl whose world is turned completely on its head due to factors beyond her control.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 80/100

This is a brutal game that has themes of abuse, loss, and gore in an urban German WWII setting, with a shocking finale that will leave the player shaking and speechless. While the story it tells is poignant and tragic, it may leave some players with a bad taste in their mouths, so discretion is advised.

Giulia develops a picture of herself from her camera in her dark room, noting how she is who she is. Is she sure the only her is her?

8) Everything is for Humanity - (PC/PS4/PS5)

From psychological horror and photo manipulation to manipulation of technology, we come to another entry on this list of indie delights that remains just as poignant and important as an Asimov novel. “Everything is for Humanity” is a sci-fi horror title that dropped in June of 2022 from Vanquisher Games. The player enters an alternate 2020, where many wealthy businesses have funded the creation of synthetic humans with working brains.

Daniel, a tech developer for an artificial intelligence known as SynOS, finds his work is given control of the synths by his director, Dr. Jeffery Phill. The player assumes control of Daniel after the AI gains complete full control, and the game becomes a race to escape and stop SynOS from utilizing the synths to create a race of superior beings.

Something is unsettling about a game focusing on the synthesis of life and artificial intelligence, primarily when most chats on the internet today focus on the application of AI as a tool. The mind games are the real meat of the story, with SynOS continuously challenging Daniel’s perspective of humanity and, by extension, the player’s.

Combined with the unsettling imagery of incubating synthetic beings and environments that seem less accurate with every passing minute, the player is soon faced with an interesting question: do we accept AI and respect it as something that is beyond human comprehension, or reject it in favor of keeping human morality as our normal and refuse to play God?

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 70/100

The relevance of the plot and actions taken by Daniel are familiar, and while not explored in complete depth, they do provide some food for thought.
The game is a walking simulator, so expect no combat. What the game lacks in action, though, it more than makes up for it with exciting and disturbing visuals.

7) Golden Light - (PC)

Surreal horror is a genre I wish the public would embrace more often. Luckily, games like this help to show horror and indie game fans the appeal of surrealism. “Golden Light,” often presented with the subtitle of “Meat Song,” dropped in March of 2022 from Hypetrain Digital and Mr. Pink. The game's plot is straightforward: You have lost your love, She, in the bowels of The Gut, and you need to get her back before The Gut does something awful to her. This means making deals with cults, finding weapons with eyeballs, and destroying furniture to dig deeper into The Gut and find every piece of Her possible before you succumb to the same fate.

I cannot express how much I adore this game. Everything about this game screams surreal body horror, plays like an FPS combined with a Prop Hunt mod from a peyote-induced nightmare, and is encapsulated by roguelike elements for endless gameplay. Every weapon is edible, every piece of furniture can suddenly become sentient and attack you, and power-ups range from gaining extra fingers for dexterity to growing a tumor on your nose that acts as an enemy-seeking missile. To fully explain everything you can do in this game would require far more room than I have at my disposal, so the most I can do is encourage you to pick up this one-of-a-kind game and play it for yourself.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 90/100

This game is often compared to “Cruelty Squad,” not just because of the amount of death or the subject matter but because of the sheer surreal nature it has as a whole. People who are squeamish regarding body horror may want to avoid this title.
You can eat your weapons for health. I am not making this up.

You brace yourself as you light a bonefire, a creature made of bones in the shape of a bonfire, with your fire affinity Toothy Chomper. You gotta love this game.

6) MADiSON - (PC/PS4/PS5/Switch/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S)

Funny how most horror games use cell phones and cameras as a way to tell a story and scare the pants off of unsuspecting players. This game is no exception, although it does take some liberties with the concept. “MADiSON” was released by Bloodious Games in July of 2022 and quickly garnered a reputation for jumpscares and intense visuals.

The player assumes control of Luca, a young man who receives an interesting camera on his 16th birthday. The camera’s haunted history comes back to bite Luca, as his new photographs and trek in his home reveal a cursed story 30 years in the making.

This is another game on this list that uses a camera as a conduit for horror and a vehicle to drive the story. Luca’s camera is used to unlock rooms, find items, or trigger events for him to progress in the story and through the house, with each image being printed off instantly, and the player needs to wave them about to clear said image. The camera acts as a bridge between the world of the living and the dead, often revealing ghosts or other apparitions to Luca, much to his chagrin.

This allows the camera to be used as a defense mechanism like the Camera Obscura from “Fatal Frame”. One or two snaps, and the creature is gone. All the while, you are actively searching for answers to why the camera is now in Luca’s possession and what caused the demon named Blue Lips to attach to him.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 80/100

The scares are plenty, and the atmosphere is overwhelming. You get an immediate sense of claustrophobia from the narrow halls and corridors, and feel unsafe in an environment where safety is always the most significant factor.

Luca develops a photo from his camera as he walks down a long corridor in "MADiSON." Gotta love game elements that play peekaboo with your camera.

5) Uninvited - (PC)

From camera-centered mechanics to exploration horror, we come to another entry on this list that deserves admiration and recognition. “Uninvited” is an indie game from Octari Navarro, creator of titles like “Midnight Stories” and “The Librarian.” The game came out in May of 2022 and has yet to reach its peak in popularity.

After you draw the short straw with your friends, you are forced to explore an abandoned house on your street. Armed with only your bag, an item of your choosing, and a jar of fireflies, you must explore every inch of the house and look for the complete set of trading cards inside. You need to be silent and swift, not only because you have a limited time in the house but because something else may be in there, and it wants you gone just as immediately.

This game is done in the same style as Navarro’s other games, with pixelated graphics being partnered with 3D rendering to create unique assets and backgrounds. The excellent use of light and shadow, combined with muted colors, creates a tense atmosphere from start to finish. The search mechanic is utilized well, leaving the player vulnerable for a set time when searching each drawer, cabinet, and vase in the house. There are no means of protection, so all you can do between searching is run and hide from other beings lurking in the house's darkness.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 80/100

This is a charming horror indie title, and I highly recommend playing this alongside Navarro’s other games. The stories take on a Twilight Zone level of eerieness, and with the added rogue elements of card placements and items available, there are no proper ways to play. All that matters is having fun and enjoying the scares given!

The player finds a Scarecrow Zombie card in the bathroom of the haunted house in "Uninvited." I wish these cards were real. They look so cool!

4) Security Booth: Director’s Cut - (PC)

Some can argue there’s an abundance of PS1-styled horror games that rely on cheap scares or insane mechanics to keep them relevant. I say bring on the creativity and exciting premises. Makes for better indie games, such as this title. “Security Booth: Director’s Cut” is a short but entertaining horror indie gem that dropped in August of 2022 from Kyle Horwood, a game developer with big titles such as “Little Hope” and “Marvel’s Spiderman” under his belt.

You play as a security guard for a large company, Nova Nexus, on a random night in 1996. You are meant to go about your job properly: ensure security for the vicinity, allow employees with appropriate clearance admission, and contend with the anomalies that pile up on top of each other as the night eerily progresses into something that defies logical explanation.

I appreciate short games like this that give little to no explanation for what exactly is going on, leaving it for the player to fill in the blanks. Absolute terror is admitting ignorance and committing to a set action despite the outcome, which is precisely what the game forces on the player.

You need to pay attention to individuals' license plates and identification tags and not respond to certain stimuli or people standing across the road, lest your conclusion differ immediately. All the while, it feels as if everything is going slow and encourages no panic, despite the fact something truly horrifying is taking place.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 85/100

The mystery is half the fun with this game, as you will find yourself going through multiple endings to learn the truth of Nova Nexus and its groundbreaking tech.
The game has been called a lo-fi indie horror game, and I agree with that sentiment. The game feels low stress and minimal while still carrying a sense of urgency, and that duality is rarely seen in any video game.

The titular security guard’s booth is covered in bloody hand prints from an unknown entity. I am not going to clean that up.

3) Ib - (PC/Switch/Android)

And now for something retro and exciting. This version of “Ib,” released in April of 2022, is a remake of the original 2012 RPG-maker game from Kouri, this time with a Playism touch. The game is from the same era of self-created and internet-published games such as "The Witch's House,” “The Crooked Man,” and "Misao".

This game, in particular, follows a young girl, Ib, on a trip to the art museum with her family, only to wander off and become lost in a work of art. Her journey back to the real world becomes fraught with dangers of both the physical and paint kind, and her new companions Garry and Mary are ready to help her overcome these challenges.

Like other RPG-maker titles, the game is puzzle focused and relies on the player’s knowledge to advance in certain areas and make decisions at the crack of a whip. Not every decision is wise, and some will lead to death before they lead to an answer. The same can be said regarding interaction with Garry and Mary, Ib’s companions, in this macabre masterpiece.

Who you choose to trust and how you solve every puzzle will lead you to a new conclusion each time, leaving the game open for hours of replayability. Just don’t let your rose die in the process.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 75/100

The game is short, but the ways the story plays out are worth watching, and there are a few conclusions that feel better than others. You will need to pay close attention to what you do if you want to get those endings, though. Keep a guide nearby.
The soundtrack for the game was done by YASUpochi, and it is every bit ethereal as it is calming.

Ib and Garry look at their reflections and the writing in the mirror of a new room in the museum. That tension you're feeling is from knowing there's a jumpscare coming up.

2) The Heilwald Loophole - (PC)

The fact no one has even mentioned this game outside of smaller indie Youtubers is infuriating, so let’s fix that. “The Heilwald Loophole” is a German horror game that dropped back in February of 2022 from Jan Malitschek. The character the player follows is an unnamed person who wakes up in the Heilwald Klinikum storage room out of nowhere.

Doctors who want to remove your liver and nurses who think it’s fine to give you 10,000 volts of electricity will stop at nothing to get you, and all you can do is run away and maneuver the twisted halls to the best of your ability. Before you can escape, however, you need to stop whatever madness is going on and find who is behind the torture of the staff and the patients of Heilwald.

Everything about this game is incredible, from the retro PS1 aesthetic to the eccentric nature of its characters like Nurse Anne and The Trashman to even the boss battles the player winds up in if they happen to meander into the bathhouse too early.

There are optional side quests, lore hidden in plain sight, and an insane mechanic encompassing the game: you cannot die. In place of death, you are teleported to another part of the Klinikum, where you will find a hypnotic light, a hole in the ground, and head back out to face horrors unknown.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 85/100

There are moments where the terrifying becomes comical, as my friends and I found out playing this game. It feels like a German twist on Twin Peaks in a clinical setting.
The game isn’t short of horror, as genuine moments of fear always strike the player.

The player sits down in the cafeteria of the Heilwald Klinikum to a bowl of fleischuppe. This may be the atmosphere talking, but you do not want to experience that soup.

1) Iron Lung - (PC/Switch)

Oh, I wanted to talk about this game for so long. “Iron Lung” is an indie horror game David Syzmanski had a hand in creating and developing - the same David Syzmanski of “Dusk” and New Blood Interactive fame. The game dropped on March 10th, 2022, and has become a top hit among horror game fans thanks to the massive influence of internet gamers and Let’s Players. The game takes place after the “Silent Rapture” has caused stars and planets to vanish, leaving only small human settlements behind.

One such settlement located on the asteroid AT-5 contains a small piece of hope for survival: a submarine known as the SM-13, or the “Iron Lung,” specifically designed to navigate the blood ocean on AT-5. As stated by the Consolidation of Iron, the goal is to find the key to sustaining human life. Piloting the sub is you, a convicted criminal, who becomes the reluctant hero - read victim - of this fantastic voyage.

This game is one of the most unique on this list and in the horror genre. The player is tasked to navigate the blood ocean using longitude and latitude controls while monitoring their pressure and oxygen gauges. The lower you go, the harder it is to maintain proper amounts of both. Photos of the undersea floor will also need to be taken for the scientists.

What lies under those waves, however, is nothing short of horrifying. Whether the creatures are friendly isn’t the question; the only question you soon ask yourself is how you can survive your tiny enclosure without losing your mind.

FUN FACTOR SCORE - 90/100

This game is effective in scares, utilizes pixelated graphics and 3D rendering, and is oppressive with its soundtrack. The submarine creaks and groans with the pressure and movements around it, so be sure to play this game with headphones for the full effect.
As a bonus, Markiplier is set to direct a short theatric piece about “Iron Lung,” so look forward to that as well!

Train Valey is an addictive train game that features puzzles and building with strategy elements. The player builds railroads so that cities can connect through them, with five seasons for players to make through.

The rails come low cost unless you’re demolishing houses to build them. Train Valley was developed and published by Flazm in 2015.

Transport Fever 2 empathizes with the transport used for the last few decades and takes place across different continents. Just as in the previous game, Transport Fever 2 still focuses on the evolution of transport and business transport.

Even though the transport history is rewritten by the campaign mode, making it somewhat different from the first one it’s still an addictive game. Urban Games developed Transport Fever 2 and Good Shepard Entertainment for the first time in 2019.

The task of this game is to build a rail longer than ever! You can upgrade your train and master encounters as random as can be while keeping your train from derailing. Indoor Astronaut developed this game, and it was published by Daedalic Entertainment and Bilibili Co., Ltd in 2019.

Workers & Resources is an open-ended game and is only playable in single-player mode. It has an option to enable electricity and heating requirements for your buildings, requirements of fuel for the vehicles you use, and a school for your kids.

It emphasizes reality, which makes the game interesting in an “I’m going to work, but my kid needs to go to school first.” way. The game was developed based on the success level of the genre, and the reviews received were very positive.

7. Hmmsim Metro (PC)

Everyone knows that first impressions last, and this game has an excellent one from start to finish. Hmmsim Metro is a simulator game with a very realistic outlook on how trains move around and is operated by the subway line in Seoul.

Though there's no branding of the subway visible in the game, it features the subway beautifully. Hmmsim Metro is one of the games in the Hmmsim series and immediately has you wanting to play more!

In Railroad Corporation, players can live their dream in an open world full of possibilities! Craft their fortune, manage a corporation, and complete missions. The game is based on the history of railworks across North America.

Though this simulation game focuses more on management than railway building and place, it's addictive and keeps players entertained in their little world. It was developed by Corbie Games and published by Iceberg Interactive in 2019.

Railroads is a business simulator game and is part of the Railroad Tycoon series. The game is fully 3-D and focuses on head-to-head strategy, making it slightly different than others in the series.

It emphasizes the economy, and players use the railroads they develop to manage industries. It was developed by Firaxis Games and Feral Interactive and released in 2006. As number two on my list, the game is a lot of fun to play.

In this game, players earn money by using rail, water, air, and road transport in a transport company. It’s set between 1900-2100, making it interesting to see how the economy has changed over the years as well as the transport!

Cris Sawyer’s Locomotion has five different levels of difficulty, featuring 40 scenarios along with an editor. It’s available in multiplayer mode making it even more fun to play with others who love the game.

It was developed by Chris Sawyer (Obviously), and published in 2004 by Atari.

This card will have your opponent nervous about having pokemon on their bench - an essential part of the game. While it may look like it doesn’t do much damage, Max Lance deals up to 250 damage per turn. Paired up with Energy Retrievals and Energy Recyclers, you won’t be losing any energy to the graveyard and doing maximum damage.

One of the only cards on this list that is not a VMAX or VSTAR card, the quick ball is a must for the majority of decks. Often overlooked for the beautifully designed full art pokemon cards, item cards can make or break a deck.

This card allows a search of your deck to find any basic pokemon card you need to make your killer play. It’s an eye for an eye as you must give up a card in your hand before you can search. Its status as an item card instead of a supporter card like Milo or Cynthia means you can play multiple in one turn, stacking up your bench with basic ‘mons.

This card is even useful to keep on your bench due to its ability negating any effects of poison, sleep, paralysis or any other nasty trick your opponent has up their sleeve in addition to their attack.

Now Jolteon VMAX is similar to its psychic counterpart, but is more definite on how much damage it can dish out. Gorgeous design and deadly execution.

Plus whoever designed that artwork certainly needs a raise.

This card can either be the ultimate active pokemon or can be completely useless. Let’s go with the assumption you have more than one Fusion Strike pokemon in your deck. The Cross Fusion Strike attack can be used for only two basic energies and can duplicate the attack of any of your Fusion Strike benched pokemon’s attacks.

Other pokemon in the past have had similar abilities, but have had more restrictions as you needed to match the energy of the attack you are replicating, which makes Mew VMAX superior. Max Miracle is a decent attack as well. But make sure you have a variety of heavy hitters in your deck that Mew can copy.

The Assassins Creed franchise has certainly earned its name amongst renowned gaming platforms, with Valhalla being the latest in its release. However, looking back at more previous games, like Assassin's Creed Syndicate, is it worth the play?

Assassin's Creed Syndicate

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is an action-adventure stealth video game. It is the first in the series to allow players to switch between Jacob and Evie Frye, the twin protagonists. It's also the first game in the series to include Evie Frye, who is the first female playable Assassin. Ubisoft developed and launched the game for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 23, 2015, and for Microsoft Windows on November 19, 2015. It is the Assassin's Creed Series' ninth major game and the sequel to Assassin's Creed Unity, which was released in 2014.When released, Syndicate saw a drop in sales in its first week of release than compared to its second week performance, Ubisoft explained that it could be by what had happened with Assassin's Creed Unity -which was riddled with bugs and other technical issues at its launch, but as this was not the case with Syndicate, which proved to run significantly smoother- sales rebounded by its second week of release. Assassin's Creed Syndicate Story

A gripping tale of heroes in capes set in London during the Industrial Revolution.

Assassin's Creed has always revolved around the battle between the Assassins and the Templars, while the Assassins believe in humanity having free will in living their lives within reason, the Templars believe otherwise, where in- people should be controlled to maintain order. Syndicate sets out during the Victorian Era in London 1868, during the Industrial Revolution. The game follows Twin Assassins, Jacob and Evie Frye as they navigate the alleyways of London's most daunting corridors in order to take back the city from Templar control, Upon learning about the antagonist's - Crawford Starrick's - master plot to take over the world by assigning the Shroud of Eden (an ancient Isu gadget with immortal and regenerative qualities, capable of healing any wound) Before it's too late, Jacob and Evie must halt Starrick and his templar dominance over London.This in with the wider Assassins Creed story of Isu history, that is seen in each game where Assassins and Templars battle it out to attain or keep these precious ancient artifacts from each other, each to serve their own ideas and cause. This makes things interesting especially if you’ve been invested in the story from the first game.

Assassins Creed Syndicate Gameplay

Combat your way through the streets roof-tops while performing high stealth missions.

The game is played from a third-person perspective and its open world is navigated on foot or by carriage. It has introduced new traveling systems and refined combat and stealth mechanics. In alignment with historical accuracy, you will meet and come across Charles Darwin, Dickens and Queen Victoria. Players control the two lead protagonists throughout the game's story, switching between them both, during and outside of missions. Syndicate has a classic Assassin’s Creed feeling to it, with an upgrade in parkour in using the Grapple-gun to ascend to roof-tops and glide easily past crowds as a zip-line. With featuring the classic hidden blade, the game is not primarily a shooter though it’s the first to have guns as a major weapon choice in combat, fitting to the theme of early British weaponry in having hand revolvers which serves your primary gun choice. Outside the main objective storyline, players are free to roam the city which is made up of seven districts where they can perform a variety of side missions like; infiltrating through templar controlled factories and participating in fight clubs which are displayed on the map, in aim to fight in breaking Templar influence and power in London. Finishing enough side missions will eventually lead you to a final gang fight between an enemy templar controlled gang, known as ‘The Blighters’, fortunately you won't be in these fights alone as you will recruit and manage your own gang members, known as ‘The Rooks’ and participate in overthrowing their control in the city.

The game follows through a leveling up system which progresses with the main storyline and depending on how much of London you have ‘liberated’ against templar influence you can expect to rank up your abilities and gang.

This was the last installment in the franchise that featured the classic Assassins Creed style and mechanics in combat and leveling up, after Origins and Odyssey followed after. Action is fast-paced and brutal, along with repetition as a downside to it’s combat that combines powerful multi-kills and countermoves.. The game comes with an additional DLC, continuing Jacob’s story in ‘Jack The Ripper’.

In overall, Syndicate features classic elements like ‘hiding between crowds’ or acquiring special gadgets that you acquire during the campaign, as well as higher stealth skill which unlike the newer installments that followed after had diverted slightly away from.

Assassins Creed Syndicate – Graphics

Gripping graphics that pays attention to detail, that’s sure to you back in history as you explore the streets of London.

Ubisoft is recognized for creating locations that are historically accurate and vibrantly alive, and it has done it again in Syndicate, with players able to explore Westminster, The Strand, Southwark, and The City of London. In terms of the series' city games, this is a true city experience with polished and refined graphics that offer dense intricate detail to historical framework that charmed me in the details within the setting that this game offers, such as cargo ships on the Thames, horse-drawn carriages, and steam engine trains on railway lines. Each district is distinct and provides the player with a broader range of options to explore by showcasing a variety of ground work and roof-tops to showcase stealthy parkour moves. In 2022, this game still offers some of the best set graphics and design settings during the Victorian Era. Although, after playing the game for a while, I felt that the ordinary presentation of individuals was a little repetitive, and that the game had a long load time in between, it was still a significant improvement over Unity. Apart from that, the game appears to run more smoothly on console devices; however, on PC, crashes (ACS.exe had stopped working) and performance issues such as low FPS or FPS drops, as well as stuttering issues, have been reported; however, these errors can be fixed by fixing the GPU and lag issues by downloading relevant patches applicable to your issue. My personal experience with the Ubisoft was great, since I had an issue with Assassins Creed Unity where my helix points weren't accumulating into my account- the team managed to respond within a week to my email and fix the problem. So getting help with the game won’t be a problem- especially since they do have a custom support page for issues that may arise.

Assassins Creed Syndicate –Price

Assassin's Creed Syndicate runs on a variety of platforms. There are various editions exclusive to the game itself which are available with the DLC’s.

The updated price list for the standard Assassin's Creed Syndicate game for 2022, is of follows:

PlayStation - At the moment, this game runs on sale at $8.00 until February 2nd 2022, thereafter taking on its normal price of $29.99.

Xbox – This game sells at $29.99 on the Xbox store.

In addition to pricing, the game offers in-game purchases in acquiring add-ons to your character through acquiring or purchasing Helix points which are exclusive to the Assassin's Creed Series through Ubisoft in signing up for a Uplay account.

Assassins Creed Syndicate –Verdict

If you're a recent fan of the Assassin's Creed series or just exploring in 2022, I’d recommend that it is a good game to play if you’re looking for something that has a casual gameplay style.

Pros:

The game pays attention to detail, it's vibrant and compelling to its times with an immersive grounded setting.
Character personalities are unique and draw in the player.
Grapple hook serves as a unique addition to stealth and helps the player navigate and perform assassins easily.
The game brings on a range of weapons which are completely unique to the game.
Shawn and Rebecca return in the modern main story, making things interesting.
Mission rewards are beneficial and serve as items that you can actually use as you progress in the story.

Cons:

There is a lot of repetitiveness in terms of combat and the process of liberating different districts.
The Leveling system constrained gameplay and sometimes made it seem like an RPG game.
This was a missed opportunity to have the London setting as a sequel to Black Flag for playing as Edward Kenway, as he was mentioned in the story.
Compared to other Assassin’s Creed storylines, Syndicate's story was a bit mundane with no major twists.
Minor bug issues may arise.
There was not a lot of character growth for the characters themselves.

New World Review 2022 - Is It Good or Bad?

Present-day New World looks like a shadow of its former self. Reviews were generally favorable at the game’s release, but eventually players noticed glaring issues that detracted from New World’s functionality and fun. As an avid player, I will set aside my biases and judge the game as fairly as I can to answer the question: do the game’s issues outweigh the enjoyment it has to offer?

About New World

As a massively multiplayer roleplaying game (MMORPG), New World stood out from other games in the genre with its focus on large-scale player versus player (PvP) combat, robust crafting system, and current-gen looks. Amazon Games (AG) released the game on September 28th, 2021, and it was met with great praise.

Over 750,000 players were online during launch day according to New World’s Steam charts, and over 900,000 players the day after. However, the player count has steadily declined since then, currently averaging just over 65,000 players at peak times.

What happened?

Players generally agree that New World was not fit for release, despite being in development for six years. An overwhelming amount of bugs, dysfunctionality, and questionable progression systems ruined those early positive impressions, but there’s still some good to be found in the rough.

New World’s Story

MMORPG storylines are traditionally not their strongpoints, and New World doesn’t stray far from this path. Your character starts their journey on a galleon with Commander Thorpe, a friendly non-player character (NPC) who is infatuated by a mysterious box belonging to an unknown, hooded man. After the short cutscene, you promptly crash onto the island of Aeternum where you discover a land rich with exotic flora, fauna, and . . . black sludge.

Shortly after, Thorpe becomes corrupted by said sludge and serves as the game’s primary antagonist. From there the story follows fairly standard beats with a couple of twists. All in all, the story isn’t terribly interesting. However, learning about the island and its inhabitants is.

Aeternum is host to a curious assortment of creatures, ranging from reanimated skeletons to forest dwellers made of the very bark they protect. Snippets of information about these denizens are scribbled on letters left by previous adventurers, oftentimes describing a frightening encounter. This adds a bit of allure to New World’s indigenous factions, and I still find myself pondering their origins.

New World is clearly centered around its PvP combat and crafting system, the two strongest selling points of the game. Typical MMORPG activities like leveling and group dungeons are present as well, though their quality is a bit of a mixed bag.

Character Creation and Classes

Character creation in New World offers just enough cosmetic options to give your character a unique look, though the level of customization is relatively low compared to other current-gen titles. Still, the variety of beards, tattoos, and neon-blue pigtails is sure to make your character stand out from the crowd as you clobber your foes in PvP.

Your class is determined by what weapon your character has equipped, and their respective specialization trees (called Weapon Mastery) which you may allocate skill points into, e.g. Warhammers can be specialized for damage or crowd control, Sword and Shield can be specialized for damage or tanking, etc. There is also no limit to how many weapon types you can master; you could eventually earn maximum skill points for all Weapon Masteries, and switch roles simply by switching weapons.

New World PvP

As previously mentioned, PvP is the focus of New World, and AG acknowledged as much during the game’s development. Once players complete a quest chain at level 10 they are sent to join one of New World’s three factions: the fanatical Covenant, the militaristic Marauders, or highbrow Syndicate. After players choose a faction to join they can “flag” themselves for PvP.

When you flag yourself for PvP, you can attack other flagged players outside of towns and other safezones. There are also quests given by faction representatives that encourage PvP for useful rewards. Players who do not wish to partake in PvP may leave themselves unflagged to go about their adventuring in relative peace.

Endgame PvP adds two different activities for players to take part in: Outpost Rush and Wars. Outpost Rush is a 20v20 instanced battleground where players compete to control three outposts to gain points in a king-of-the-hill fashion, while Wars are massive 40v40 battles organized by companies (i.e. a guild of players) who vye for control of a town and its territory. Charging into a giant PvP battle with your friends is exactly the kind of experience I want out of an MMORPG, and AG makes this a lot of fun.

The PvP in New World is stellar, and can only get better as AG builds on top of this already solid foundation. However, recent updates plague PvP combat with lag and desync issues, which unfortunately tarnishes the game’s most shining feature.

Gathering and Crafting

New World’s gathering and crafting system is both complex and satisfying. It allows players to make their own equipment out of resources they gather in Aeternum, such as weapons, armor pieces, jewelry, and potions.

Generally, I think resource gathering and item crafting tend to be the most boring components of a MMORPG, but in New World I found myself picking and chopping everything that would let me. Shimmering nodes of Starmetal also motivated me to get my mining skill up, mostly because it looked cool and I wanted to mine that fancy stuff. These natural resources are a clever way AG invites players to instinctively explore the continent, since shiny mining nodes or vibrant herbs are visible over great distances.

Crafting stuff out of the materials you’ve gathered feels great too. Whether it’s turning raw resources into a refined ones (e.g. Silk, Iron Ingots, Leather) to sell on the Trading Post or smithing a weapon for yourself, there’s a lot of freedom in crafting progression. On the other hand, endgame crafting is a bit reliant on dice rolls for the best gear, which can feel like a letdown when such expensive materials are crafted into a less-than-ideal item.

Leveling gathering and crafting skills are undoubtedly more grinds, but the consensus is these experiences are both enjoyable and relaxing. This system remains mostly unchanged, though AG recently made the experience requirement to reach max-level crafting a much taller order. They felt players were becoming master crafters a bit too quickly, and this change was met with some negativity from the playerbase.

New World PvE

New World’s PvE aspects are a bit of an afterthought, according to alpha and beta testers. If the copy-pasted questing wasn’t evidence enough (more on this later), group dungeons were apparently non-existent through the majority of the game’s development. Eventually these dungeons, or Expeditions, were added at the tail-end of development, and have turned into some of the most enjoyable content in New World. They are filled with small puzzles, engaging encounters, and genuinely challenging boss fights.

At the endgame, PvE consists of two Expeditions, Invasions, and the controversial Expertise grind. The endgame Expeditions Garden of Genesis and Lazarus Instrumentality epitomize what made all of the early-game dungeons so enjoyable, and are fun to hack and slash through many times over. Invasions are a 40-player horde mode in which you defend against waves of Corrupted enemies for 30 minutes, and are rewarded based on how long you survive.

Expertise and Mutators

The Expertise grind is New World’s endgame gear progression system, which is a source of backlash among the community. Essentially, armor, weapons, and jewelry all possess a stat which dictates the quality of respective gear drops. For example, if your Greataxe Expertise is low and a boss drops a rare Greataxe, the weapon you are presented with is a much weaker version compared to a player with maximized Greataxe Expertise.

AG introduced additional avenues to help players increase their Expertise more quickly through increased drops, the Gypsum system, etc. Previously, the only effective way to bump up your Expertise rating was to mindlessly swarm open-world group dungeons with an army of players, so these are welcome changes. However, it remains a tiresome part of the game I can’t help but roll my eyes at.

Mutators are the most recent addition to New World, and are all the rage. These are more difficult versions of endgame Expeditions, and are essentially the same as World of Warcraft’s Mythic+ system. Players encounter buffed up mobs and are timed to complete the Expedition quickly for better rewards. The added challenge has revived interest in the game a bit, but is still relying on recycled material to keep players logging in.

All in all, the biggest issue here is simply this; there isn’t enough PvE content at the endgame. Present PvE activities are wonderful, but without more variety players will quickly find themselves twiddling their thumbs.

New World Combat

Combat Overview

Thankfully, combat is one of New World’s best features. It’s a breath of fresh air compared to the passive tab-targeting auto-attack prevalent in most MMORPGs. Players can perform light or heavy attacks with each swing, and can combo some impressive damage if they time their abilities correctly. Surprisingly, there are even headshot specializations for you Counterstrike pros out there.

As mentioned earlier, the combat is unfortunately in a clunky state. Lag is a huge issue that desyncs players in large PvP battles, frequently making characters snap back to where they were seconds ago. There are movement speed bugs that can grant characters unfair speed advantages, and an inability to cancel active skills once their hotkeys are pressed. These were non-issues during the game’s release but have emerged from recent updates, much to the dislike of the playerbase. AG developers say they are working quickly to fix these issues.

Weapon Mastery

The Weapon Mastery system has remained unchanged from New World’s release and for good reason; it needs no fixing. Weapon Mastery trees invite deep theorycrafting without being too complex and work seamlessly with newly added weapons e.g. the Void Gauntlet. You can create your own homebrewed spec and genuinely be effective in PvP or PvE, which is a degree of customization that feels great. AG ironed out a few initial bugs with some of the abilities and Weapon Mastery is in a perfect place for future updates.

New World’s Quest and Mission System

Questing Overview

New World’s questing system is a topic of major scrutiny among the playerbase. Essentially, you are stuck with the types of quests you receive within the first few hours of the game until you reach the maximum level of 60. Almost all of the quests fall under a “go here and kill x number of enemies” and “loot chests for these items” type.This may seem like typical MMORPG grind fare, but feels much more repetitive due to a lack of enemy variety. You fight the same zombies, skeletons, and dryad mobs into the endgame with almost no reskins encountered throughout.

The main story quest suffers from similar problems, but at least there is an overarching goal with some interesting twists that separates it from the standard quest loops. AG has recently added more quest and enemy types to the game but as a whole questing still feels static.

That said, quests turn players into pioneers when they’re sent to explore New World’s vast and varied wilderness in a way that feels organic. NPCs and quest givers are usually dressed to fit their zones (e.g. pirate garb in coastal zones, furs in snowy ones), and consistently engage the player with playful dialogue. Despite the repetitive subject matter, the journey players undertake while questing is delightful.

Town Boards

The various towns scattered about Aeternum offer jobs on their respective Town Boards. These tasks are similar to standard quests but involve things like killing a number of troublesome animals, gathering resources, or crafting items that contribute towards the town’s functionality. Some may be completed without ever leaving the settlement, which makes them an effective supplement or alternative to questing. Town board missions ultimately feel like another grind, but at least they provide a wider variety of things to do.

Faction representatives at each of these towns offer their own missions as well, most of which encourage PvP in some form. These quests are usually not great for leveling, but do allow for some powerful rewards down the line.

New World’s Graphics

One thing the majority of players agree on is New World’s presentation. It is a beautiful game, and might be the best looking MMORPG currently on the market. MMORPGs generally sacrifice graphical quality due to the sheer amount of assets that can be on the screen at any time, and New World still looks detailed despite taking similar liberties.

The Environment

Each zone is beautifully crafted, ranging from colorful Autumn forests in Everfall to tropical beaches in First Light. I found Weaver’s Fen to be particularly impressive, personally. It is a putrid marsh, but when sunlight hits the swamp gas just right a lovely warm glow illuminates the entire zone.

Endgame areas span from gorgeous to terrifying. Shattered Mountain is where you’ll spend a lot of your time, and it’s basically a hellscape. Towns in ruin, gigantic demons, and Corrupted wildlife make up the majority of the experience here. On the other hand, Ebonscale Reach is a lush jungle filled with vibrant, Chinese-inspired architecture, and is easily my favorite zone to venture through.

All in all, the environments in New World are pure eye candy.

Character Animations

A splendid array of cosmetics and emotes.

New World character animations are smooth and expressive. Whether you’re crouching behind some rocks, strolling through town, or giving someone a thumbs up, it all looks natural.

Combat animations are top-notch and visually appealing as well. Characters drag their Greataxes along the ground when charging at enemies, sparks jumping about, while others use Firestaffs to levitate and soar through the air in a fireball. The accompanying sounds are also immensely satisfying; Warhammer wallops emit a Mjolnir-esque ring, Musket shots crackle and echo into the distance, etc.

Environmental Sound Design

Additionally, New World’s environmental sounds are arguably the most immersive aspect of the game. A pickaxe swing at an iron node or hatchet chop into a young tree sound like their real-world equivalents. You can hear other players gathering like this in the distance, and really sells the feeling that Aeternum is full of life.
The sound design team alone deserves nothing less than a 10/10 across the board, and honestly carry a lot of weight when considering the overall state of New World.

New World’s Developer

Amazon Games Studios (renamed Amazon Games) has an inconsistent game development history.

Amazon Games has a shoddy track record with its game releases. Both Breakaway and Crucible were canceled, which were two of the three games the studio was developing. The third is New World, which currently outlives the studio’s other two attempts at game releases. It can be viewed as a success in comparison, but New World’s beginnings were also executed poorly, and raises eyebrows at just what goes on during AG’s development process.

Bugs and Exploits

The ugly truth is, New World was a buggy mess upon release, and continues to be. In the beginning, AG would quickly address these bugs as players discovered them, but much like a hydra each attempt at fixing bugs sprouted many more new ones.t

Among the worst of these were item duplication exploits which allowed players to crash server economies, weapon passives with no upper damage limit, and intentional lag abuse that would allow companies to win Wars by forfeit, rendering the efforts of the opposing 40-player team useless. There are countless minor bugs which have yet to be addressed, such as replaying achievement notifications and clipping through terrain, which seem like easier fixes but have still gone untouched.

Developer Communication

Despite this, AG is the most responsive developer I’ve seen in the MMORPG genre. They punctually respond to player concerns on the official New World forums, and are completely transparent about upcoming patches. AG regularly takes suggestions made by players and implements them if they are deemed reasonable. They also acknowledge (and apologize for) the rampant amount of bugs from previous patches, and are chiseling away at this mountain with their weekly updates.

This level of communication is unprecedented in my experience. Blizzard would take months to address serious bugs in World of Warcraft, while AG implements fixes in a few days. This responsiveness alone bodes well for the development of New World moving forward.

New World’s Price

The standard edition of New World costs $39.99, while the deluxe edition costs $49.99 and includes some extra cosmetics for player characters and houses. There are microtransactions, but no pay-to-win elements since everything in the shop is purely cosmetic and has no effect on gameplay. You can also pay for server transfers, which is a nice quality of life option, but it is unclear if other services like this will be added in the future.

Final Verdict

Look, I like New World a lot. There’s a solid foundation for a very fun MMORPG with uniquely fast-paced combat, but is unfortunately bogged down by a heap of bugs, connection problems, and a questionable endgame grind. At times you will feel like you are playing a beta test of New World rather than a fully released title, even after all of the updates. It is for these reasons I cannot currently give New World anything higher than a 6/10. Currently, the game’s positives outweigh its negatives by a hair.

However, the communication and responsiveness from the developers gives me hope for the future of the game, and I firmly believe New World is worthy of an 8/10 or 9/10 in the near future.

25. Cryospace

In Cryospace your goal is to survive on a spaceship by strategically running around the ship and doing a multitude of tasks to ensure your survival. You are just a maintenance guy who wakes up from cryosleep amid chaos. You’ll need to carefully manage your oxygen and crewmates to fend off monsters in this action-packed isometric 3rd person sci-fi adventure.

Sci-fi horror games can open up many possibilities. Cryospace, for instance, lets you play from the perspective of a maintenance guy that doesn’t have much expertise and has to focus on his will to survive. It seems to be a bit of a slower game, that will let you focus on crafting careful strategies, rather than just shooting everything you meet.

24. Asylum

Asylum is a point-and-click mystery, adventure, horror game set in a decaying mental institute. It’s a spiritual successor to Scratches, a 2006 atmospheric horror game. Asylum seems like it’s gonna do its best to utilize the gruesome and creepy setting of a madhouse and use the point-and-click style for slowing down the pace and making every second feel excruciatingly ominous.

It has an art style reminiscent of the 2000-era games. It’s not a game that everyone will enjoy, since it is quite different from mainstream horror games. It is, however, still a unique niche game that should be given a chance if you enjoy point-and-click adventures.

23. Dark Moonlight

Dave Kellerman is a man that suffers from many fears and phobias. He decides to try out his luck with a new experimental psychiatric treatment. He wakes up in a completely different world full of demonic motifs and creatures. He must fight with limited resources to survive.

In this action-adventure horror game, you must fight for dear life and forget about all of your fears if you intend to survive. Dark Moonlight is filled with intricately designed demonic enemies you will face, as well as many puzzles you will need to complete to strengthen your weapons.

22. Unholy (PC)

Unholy is a story about a mother Saidah in a corrupt and morbid world full of maniacs and beasts. Saidah is on a search for her abducted child. She must challenge the repressive regime in which your social class “caste” is everything.

The many challenges this game will throw at its player can be solved in multiple ways: Stealthily avoid the enemies or murder your way through the regime risking descending into madness or even impersonate your way through the castes.

Unholy seems like its greatest strengths will be the rich story filled with despair and the grim, hellish setting the story takes place in.

21. Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2 is a long-awaited continuation of the franchise. It continues the story of Alan Wake - a writer trapped in his own story. Not much is known except the trailer, but the community is looking forward to the continuation of an old classic game.

20. Banish

Banish is a new horror game that can be played alone or with friends. You take on the role of a priest that gets sent to the ominous Luxford Mansion for a failed exorcism attempt. It’s your goal to find out what went wrong with the previous exorcism, finish it and try to stay alive…

It seems Banish is going to be a very interesting game, due to it having the co-op option and amazing visuals. The graphics are good and the environment is very atmospheric. Motifs of Christianity are seen all throughout the game’s theme. It looks like a game with a lot of potential.

19. Dead Space Remake

Dead Space is a successful and well-known sci-fi horror franchise. After years of success, ups and downs, we’re finally getting a new game in the franchise. Although it’s a remake and not a brand new game, I still have high expectations for it.

It’s gonna follow the same third-person shooter formula that the franchise is known for. It’s not gonna be just a visual update to the original Dead Space, but rather some things are going to be different.

18. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a game developed by the same people who’ve made the Friday The 13th game. They stayed in the genre of asymmetrical horror games but this time they’ve switched up the franchise.

You can play either as the Slaughter family or the survivors. Playing the victims will require you to use your wits and stealth to avoid the Slaughter family as they are trying to get you. This game has a lot of potential. We haven’t gotten a proper Leatherface game, so I hope this one will be good and not just a remake of Friday The 13th.

17. Wronged Us

Wronged Us is a cinematic story-driven game that is still quite early in development. Hence, not much is known, but we know that it is going to be taking place in a small, abandoned town filled with horrors. You will be free to explore the town and interact with people along the way.

It seems like the game will be a mix of psychological and survival horror. Gunplay seems like it will be present, but we don’t know if it’s going to be the game’s main strength. From the trailer, we can see a lot of creepy and brutal scenes, which look quite promising for the game’s future.

16. Mirror Forge

Mirror Forge is a first-person psychological horror game about a man that’s led to the brink of sanity. After losing all hope and reaching out to his ex-girlfriend he accidentally put in a coma a few years prior - he realizes there’s no trace of her. Realizing something is amiss he goes on a journey to find her.

Mirror Forge is a game that is inspired by Silent Hill and Stranger Things. There will be a lot of different environments as our protagonist will seemingly travel through time/dimensions. You will have to rely on your stealth and wit to solve puzzles and figure out the mystery behind Jill’s disappearance.

15. Projekt Z

Projekt Z is a co-op zombie shooter inspired by left 4 dead 2. Projekt Z takes place in World War 2 on a small German island infested with zombies. You can either take on the immersive story mode, or the Wave survival mode where you fight off endless hordes of zombies with one goal in mind - survival.

This seems like it will be a very fun, high-quality FREE TO PLAY zombie shooter. Shooting nazi zombies sounds fun in and of itself, but this game is a free-to-play co-op so it’s worth a try if you get a few friends to play with. It seems like the atmosphere of the game will be very immersive.

14. Ikai

Ikai takes place in a Shinto shrine in feudal japan. Naoko is the shrine’s priestess that’s struggling to battle a demon who entered the shrine. There’s something about the Japanese haunted shrine that makes it a good aesthetic for a horror game.

Experience fear and anxiety while exploring the authentic Japanese shrine. The game hopes to illustrate the classic psychological horror even more by purposefully designing the game to make you feel as helpless as possible to raise the tense atmosphere and the horrific mood.

Paranoid promises a “psychedelic horror story” filled with frightening creatures and brutal murders. I am very excited to see if Paranoid’s way of making a horrific and nightmarish story out of substance abuse will successfully lead to a thrilling game in which players will always be questioning reality.

13. Carnival Hunt

Carnival Hunt is a multiplayer survival horror game. The game looks like it will play a lot like Dead by Daylight - 1 player takes the role of the Carnival Monster whose goal is to find the other players who are playing as mechanical bunnies that are escaping for dear life.

Not much is known about the story but I am expecting something VERY sinister and grim hidden behind the simple idea of mechanical rabbits being chased down. It’s a nice take on the asymmetrical genre that has a great steampunk-ish aesthetic.

12. Paranoid

Paranoid is a first-person horror game set in the 1980s. Our protagonist Patrick Calaman has been a shut-in for the past many years. The only alive member of his family is his sister who disappeared 13 years ago. One day Patrick receives a phone call from his sister announcing her arrival. This puts Patrick in a spot where he has to overcome his life in isolation and his drug addictions, which leads to some nightmarish outcomes.

11. The Callisto Protocol

The protagonist, Jacob Lee, is kept in a maximum-security prison located on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. When inmates begin to transform into monstrous creatures, he has to battle his way to safety.

The Callisto Protocol seems like it will be a very interesting sci-fi survival horror game. It promises a unique blend of shooting and close-quarters combat and an interesting story filled with secrets you uncover along the way. The game looks beautifully grim, and it has a nice, unique aesthetic.

10. The Lost Wild

The Lost Wild is a game about surviving in an overgrown research facility in the wilderness. The catch is, that there are a lot of dinosaurs in the wilderness. The game’s catch is that you are not surrounded by monsters or the like, but by wild big animals, and it’s up to you to use a multitude of strategies to avoid or intimidate them to survive.

You will have a vast amount of nonlethal weaponry that you can use, but you will also have to be careful and sneak around avoiding the danger. The game seems like it will be very cinematic and atmospheric, and I like that we are getting a game that will really showcase dinosaurs as scary beasts.

9. Quantum Error

Quantum Error is a game that promises both third-person and first-person action gameplay in a sci-fi setting. It seems like the game will look like a combination of sci-fi and Lovecraftian cosmic horror. It’s nice that cosmic horror is getting a bit more represented in the gaming industry.

The game’s combat mechanics seem very interesting. It seems like a lot of focus has been put on an interesting combat system. The guns feel nice and you can use dodges to put yourself in position during combat sequences.

8. Greyhill Incident

Greyhill Incident is a game that takes place during an “Extraterrestrial Investigation” during the 90s. It’s a classic Alien-Invasion story that aims to be highly atmospheric and immersive.

You play as an “average guy” that has to survive in an alien invasion by all means necessary. The game will have you communicate with your neighbors, and run and fight the aliens. It’s up to you to choose how you will take the situation on, but ammunition won’t be unlimited…

7. Luto

Luto is an upcoming psychological horror game in which you play as a person that cannot leave his own house. The game promises interesting motifs such as exploring the trauma of losing a loved one and anxiety and depression as well as exploring different phobias.

The game’s story seems to be well established and interesting. The game looks very interesting and surreal. The scenes we can see now seem very unique and poetically beautiful. It’s definitely a game every fan of psychological horror will be waiting for.

6. Slitterhead

Slitterhead is an upcoming Japanese horror game made by the creator of Silent Hill and Forbidden Siren - Keiichiro Toyama. From the trailer, we can see the setting and the vibe of the game. The game looks brutal and excruciating.

I’m looking forward to seeing the gameplay for this game once it releases, but for now, we don’t know if it will be in first or third person. It looks like it’s going to be an action-oriented horror game, but I have no doubt the story is going to be amazing since Keiichiro Toyama is going to be creating it.

5. Bendy And The Dark Revival

Bendy And The Dark Revival is a continuation of the main game in the Bendy franchise Bendy and the Ink Machine. It features a new playable character named Audrey that looks very interesting. The game is not going to be multiple chapters like the last one, but rather a singular experience.

Since not much was shown, we don’t know what to expect from the new game. But knowing the developers of Bendy, it’s going to be a good game nonetheless.

4. The Outlast Trials

The Outlast Trials is going to be a prequel to the original outlast, giving us some more insight into the lore. It takes place during the cold war, Murkoff Corp. is taking involuntary guinea pigs to test out the new methods of brainwashing.

Try to survive through the brutal, twisted, and sadistic experiments of Murkoff Corporation alone or in a group of up to 4 players. Outlast has been a big influence in the single-player horror genre. It’s nice that they are branching out and tweaking their formula. Outlast has had a great story up until now and I think this prequel will be a great addition to the Outlast mythos.

3. ILL

ILL started as a concept of a detailed zombie shooter game. The concept videos the team released were just plain amazing and gruesomely detailed. At its core, ILL is still a zombie shooter game, but if the concepts shown become reality (and fortunately they’ve released a short gameplay preview so we can see the progress) it may become a revolutionarily good action horror game.

The zombies in this game should be extraordinarily gruesome since that seems to be the dev team’s strong side. I am looking forward to seeing this game’s growth process, and with my hopes high waiting to see the promised “best dismemberment and gore effects we’ve seen in games”.

2.Scorn

The world of scorn is heavily inspired by H.R. Giger - the creator of Alien. Scorn’s idea is to make a game where you as the player feel thrown into a completely different world you don’t know much about. The game strives to create uneasiness and tension by having you slowly and meticulously explore this biopunk world.

The devs stated that the game will focus on 50% gunplay and 50% puzzles. Everything will be slow to build up the tension and make you feel like you really are in the world of scorn. I think this game’s goal of immersing you in an uncanny world is well within reach. The game looks amazing and if the gameplay progression feels good, the game will definitely be a big hit.

1. Stray Souls

Stray Souls tells a story about our protagonist Daniel facing his past. As he inherits a suburban house from his estranged grandmother, he also meets a girl that knows a lot more about the house than him. As the night progresses, he will uncover a lot of dark secrets of the house.

The game looks like it’s going to be a mix of psychological and survival horror. It promises a vast world that’s different on every playthrough and expansive and meaningful dialogues that shape the story and the world around you. There will be a lot of puzzles and optional combat which you can run away from if that’s how you choose to approach the game.
