The hack-and-slash genre is perfect for any gamer - either tryhards or casuals who just want to blow off some steam over the weekend. All you need is a PC, console (or any other unlisted video game player) to enjoy a fun night of hacking and slashing enemies from either the baddest demons to the most-skilled ninjas.

Let’s dive into the wonderful world of the best hack and slash games that span the entire decade. Please keep in mind that this isn’t necessarily ranked in order, and just serves as a guide for you gamers who are looking for some of the best hack and slash games.

15. Devil Slayer: Raksasi | Nintendo Switch, PS4, Microsoft Windows

First on our list is a fairly new game that is very similar to others on this list in the sense that it has the same gameplay style. It can also be quite similar to some more punishing games like Dark Souls or more roguelite ones like the Binding of Issac.

This game is about a group of heroines who are trying to make their war-ridden world finally see the light. There are creatures that come from these seeds of war that threaten to end many lives and destroy the world. So these heroes must come together and find the keys from a transmigration trial in order to save their world.

Much like many games before it, the mechanics are fairly simple yet difficult to execute. You will have to dodge, time, and rhythmically plan your attacks to make sure you get the whole experience. You can choose between 7 heroines who are unlocked by completing the different stages.

Just make sure you’ve got your combos down pat so that obtaining these keys are just a walk in the park. Also, don’t argue about who the best girl is. We’ll have a discussion on that another time.

14. GetsuFumaDen: Undying Blade | Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows

The second entry on our list is another new game called GetsuFumaDen or Getsu Fuma Descends. The story is something out of any good old Japanese literature. A thousand years have passed since the first leader of the Getsu clan defeated the big, bad demon lord known as Ryukotsuki. He drove him and his goons back to the demon world and restored peace to the world. But as soon asRyukotsuki breaks free once again, he unleashes a new-found hell onto the world.

Now, with these new problems comes a new hero to take him down.

This game is a really good looking side-scrolling, roguelite, hack-and-slash game that is still currently in early access. But the parts of the game that are available are truly a sight to behold.

The artstyle resembles that of traditional Japanese tapestry with a few more fantasy-like elements thrown in. I think this feature makes it one of the more unique-looking games to come out recently. It also has a very nice and crisp sound design that will definitely tickle the fancy of your ears.

Gameplay-wise, however, it might be similar to the game Hades in the sense that it has some roguelike features meshed seamlessly with hack and slash. Although it might seem a little slow-paced with the limited items at first, you’ll definitely be soaring through the stages in no time. Be sure to wait for its full release sometime this 2022!

13. No More Heroes | Nintendo Switch, Microsoft Windows, Amazon Luna, Wii

No More Heroes is essentially about a misfit protagonist known as Travis Touchdown. He is a man on a mission. What mission, you ask? Well, how about having to beat down deadly assassins to make sure they aren’t going for you anymore? That’s what he has to deal with - all while being your average anime and video game enthusiast.

The development for this series of games was a bit difficult to talk about. It wasn’t necessarily a troubled development, but it wasn’t as smooth as it could possibly be, either. There were a few marketing problems such as the failed toilet paper sale in front of a video game store.

Other than that though, the story and gameplay are pretty standard for a hack and slash. There were some minigames that the developers had so much fun with that they made one too many. The director of the project even had to tell them to stop.

This game has so much personality that you could probably pinpoint each reference made. But that doesn’t take away from the overall charm the entire game has.

12. Darksiders | Linux, Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Stadia, OnLive

For this list, we’ll be including only the first Darksiders game since it is the most popular one with the most feedback from almost the entire community. This game is set in modern-day Earth with a few mystical subplots. A war suddenly breaks out between Heaven and Hell where one of the infamous Four Horsemen is on Earth in the middle of the war. During the carnage, the demonic forces defeated the hosts of the heavens and came to finally claim Earth.

You get to play as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in a war-ridden Earth with some of the smoothest gameplay mechanics. The gameplay is mostly open world where you have to explore and solve various puzzles.

I think this game is a wonderful way to explore the Earth when other entities begin to roam the land. Although it’s a hack-and-slash game, it does have some features that make it close to RPG levels of storytelling. There are even many chests to find that make the gameplay a little bit more complex than your average run-off-the-mill hack and slash game.

11. Diablo III | Microsoft Windows, OS X, PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox 1, Nintendo Switch

If you wanted a larger-than-life version of Dungeons and Dragons with a little more spice thrown in there, then Diablo is your game. But not just any Diablo - Diablo III! For the uninitiated, this just means Diablo 3. This game is a hack-and-slash game with almost all of the features of an RPG.

The story takes place in Sanctuary, which is the dark fantasy world Diablo is known for. It’s nitty-gritty setting definitely sets the mood for the game moving forward. Although the story overall may seem cheesy, it’s still a gem in the hearts of many.

What makes this game so fun is the way some of the interactions and decisions are made completely by the player. The story is tethered in a way that makes the player choose his or her character archetype based on their playstyle.

What’s funnier is that the world is so expansive that you’ll never know what’s waiting for you down the road. I’ve known some elderly people play Diablo 3 and let me tell you, it’s a story they’ve been telling their grandchildren for decades.

10. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow | PS3, Xbox 360, Microsoft Windows

Let’s be honest here. I think we all knew this was going to be on this list. Now Castlevania is a very interesting entry. It’s a gorgeous franchise with some of the most iconic characters to ever exist. It’s even been the basis of one of the most successful Netflix original series!

But what makes Castlevania: Lords of Shadow such a well-received and loved game?

To begin with, the original Castlevania games were already such a classic. It’s no wonder that, despite a reboot, there are still those who come back to this game over and over again. It’s a complete 3D overhaul of the originals, and a pretty darn good one at that.

You get to play as our beloved badass Gabriel Belmont in a quest to completely bulldoze what is essentially a cult known as the Lords of Shadow. As he seeks retribution, he is also looking to resurrect his wife. You, the player, get to control this man on a mission through gorgeous 3D environments riddled with puzzles all while perfecting your smooth melee combat skills.

The game is interesting for a number of reasons: creepy cultists, epic fighting sequences, crisp and new graphics, stunning sound design and OST, and a complete overhaul of an already beloved series. There are countless hours of all these reasons and a lot of replayability. You definitely won’t get bored despite the game being almost 11 years old already!

9. Hades | Microsoft Windows, macOS, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5

Honestly, there isn’t any other video game goat much like Hades. It came out of left-field so fast and so furious that to this day, people are still wondering what they did to deserve a game like Hades. Now, although this game doesn’t have pure hack-and-slash elements, it does have parts that do the genre so much justice.

It’s a game about Zagreus, the son of the Greek god Hades, and how he has to trek through the Underworld to get to Mount Olympus. He is aided by some of the other Olympians he meets and they give him gifts that help him on his journey.

Let me just start off by saying everything about this game is gorgeous.

The environment is so beautifully crafted, while paying homage to traditional Greek architecture. The voice acting is impeccable with some of the most heartfelt and unforgettable voice line deliveries. The character design and art are truly things to behold. Everyone is so stunning and beautifully designed - all while keeping a unique and completely fresh feel.

What makes the game so fun is the combination between fast-paced, straightforward combat and some RPG elements (like when you need to talk to other NPCs). The gameplay is something to behold. I would’ve cried my eyeballs out if I wasn’t completely enamored by the entire environment.

I’d definitely go out with Zagreus over and over again - I mean, on his journey, in-game.

8. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance | PS3, Xbox 360, Windows, OS X, Shield Android TV

Have you ever heard of a more ridiculous name? Well, probably. But this game is definitely up there. It’s a spin-off hack-and-slash game from the critical and commercial success known as Metal Gear Solid. Instead of our beloved Snake though, we get to play as his best friend and colleague, Raiden.

This game is actually such a confusing one to talk about. It has many diehard fans that keep coming back to it as well as those who think it’s just a waste of time. But let me tell you, it definitely is worth all the effort in buying, starting up, and finishing. It’s a gorgeous game with a completely different feel from its original series.

The story is one we’ve seen before, with a little twist. There are “evil” people who apparently want to do right by the world through war. These “terrorists” known as the Winds of Destruction wreak havoc across the city and it’s up to you, as the rogue cyborg assassin Raiden, to stop them.

There are a lot of funny moments in the dialogue alone, but when you couple it with Kojima’s flair of out of touch humor, then you’re definitely going to be rolling on the floor laughing. You know what’s not something to laugh at though? The intense combat system.

It’s a pure, unadulterated, hack-and-slash game that definitely tickles anyone’s funny bone. The action and combat is fast-paced, the graphics are mesmerizing, and the themes extremely chilling. Not to mention the vocal tracks for each boss are extremely well-done and would get you ramped up to take down the next boss.

This is definitely one for the books. Why, you ask? Well, NANOMACHINES SON!

7. God of War 4 | PS4

Our favorite god of destruction, Kratos, is back but with another goal in mind. Since he’s done killing the gods of Olympus he now turns towards the Scandinavian countries. He sets out with his son, Boy (sorry, no spoilers). Eventually, he has to make one of the toughest decisions for a character like Kratos. He is divided between choices that both define him.

Gameplay-wise, it's as crisp and clear as the whole series can go. It has gorgeous gameplay mechanics that build upon the already near-perfect previous installations. However, there are times where the executions get a little lackluster and repetitive. This doesn’t really affect the game as much since it’s already a very fun and exciting game to begin with.

I think it’s such a great idea to explore another character trait of Kratos. By introducing his son, we are given more to believe he isn’t just a rampaging God with a thirst for blood. There are added layers to his character which I think adds to the entire feel of the game. There is now more at stake - rather than simply his life.

Come on Bird Box, Kratos already had named his kid - please step up your game.

6. Ninja Gaiden: Master’s Collection | PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows

Let me ask you: who doesn’t want to see a bunch of badass ninjas run around and take down evil doers with their mystical blades and techniques? This might come as a surprise to no one, but the Master Collection has finally been announced and will soon be released. In fact, you can pre-order your copy now (no I am not sponsored, but it’s such a good game to support).

In this collection, you get a total of three games: Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. These are some of the most iconic and recognized games from the series. They follow the ever-elusive Ryu Hayabusa on his quest to take down the raging evil across his cities.

The game has so many elements taken from traditional Japanese culture that is always such a delight. Hayabusa is continually a great character to explore because he’s such an interesting man with a curse that threatens to eat him alive. But he’s not the only playable character we get. Oh, no, some of the ladies get their fair share of screen time.

Four gorgeous ladies: Ayane, Rachel, Momiji, and Kasumi make their way into the game. You can play the different stages of the game with these stunning kunoichi. They have their own unique play styles and combos that ramp up the playability of the game by huge amounts.

I think what makes the game so interesting and fun is just being able to go ham on all of the enemies in true ninja fashion. You’re using blades, spears, kunai, shuriken, and many other tools and tricks ninjas commonly use. It’s a great, fast-paced game that definitely grips you for hours. The Master Collection makes sure you get all of the best features of the best games, and so much more!

5. Middle-earth: Shadow of War | Microsoft Windows, PS4, Xbox One

This game is set in an already familiar place in popular media. It gets cues from J.R.R Tolkien’s universe getting inspiration from stories and movies like the Lord of the Rings trilogy or the Hobbit trilogy. I mean, its name is lifted directly from the setting of the universe - Middle-earth.

Gameplay-wise, however, it does take cues from previous action-adventure RPG games while staying true to the source material. It takes on a third-person perspective much like its predecessor. It also boasts a large, open-world environment that can be explored as extensively as the J.R.R. Tolkien legendarium is.

This is an extremely unique and interesting game because no other Tolkien expansion medium does the universe much justice like this one does. There are many dynamic scenes and interactions that keep the game fresh all while adding a whole new dimension to the external universe.

I’d definitely love to play as Frodo or young Bilbo one day (developers please let me know if there are any idea openings, thank you).

4. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice | PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, Microsoft Windows

Meet the best crossover between the Souls series and Japanese culture. Sekiro is about a shinobi named Wolf who seeks retribution on a samurai clan that attacked him and kidnapped his lord. So now, he’s on a hunt, through gorgeous feudal Japan to slay all who slighted him and bring back his master.

This game is literally just a crossover between feudal Japan and one of the Dark Souls games. The main difference is that it does play a little differently, especially during a boss fight. When you die, you respawn in an area near the boss’ lair. This definitely helps cut down the run time by a lot. It also helps that this game has some gorgeous cinematics that rival even some of the best, most recent movies.

It’s also always breathtaking to go through some of the features that make the Japanese environment one to die for. You pass through stages with breath-taking cherry blossoms. Some even feature gorgeous Japanese architecture.

Sekiro is a grade A game that is both critically and commercially acclaimed. It definitely deserves all of its awards and everything else it has received in the recent year.

3. Bayonetta | PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Windows, Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One

From the beautiful mind that brought us the very first Devil May Cry, we have another ground-breaking masterpiece in the form of Bayonetta. Generally-speaking, the game is about female Dante - oh, I mean Bayonetta - who is an Umbran witch with no recollection of her past. She then meets a little girl named Cereza whom she needs to take back to where she came from. Throughout the game, she meets different Umbran witches and “angels” who are trying to subdue her once again. She does well to kick their butts in true, seductive witch fashion.

Let’s get this right out of the way. This is one of the best games ever to be made. It’s such a fresh take on the hack-and-slash genre with all of the best elements injected into it. The combat is fast, fun, and furious. You have Bayonetta dishing out damage from all parts of her body - from her legs to her hair. It’s a concept that I’m here to just enjoy and completely eat up.

This game is extremely fun because the theme and story is completely crazy - and that’s what makes it even better. You have this beautiful witch that uses her hair as a weapon to summon a demon known as Madama Butterfly. This creates interesting, unique combos that have a completely earth-shattering visual (no pun intended).

It’s a great game to pick up when you just want a feel good game with a crazy-strong female lead.

2. NieR: Automata | PS4, Xbox 1, Microsoft Windows

NieR: Automata is a stunning hack-and-slash game with a somewhat heavy yet interesting story that explores the humanity and decision-making side of a number of cyborgs and robots. You play as 2B, a mouth-watering cyborg sword-wielder who is sent back to Earth to retrieve some data and continue a job she was programmed to do.

Little do we know, there’s something bigger going on behind the scenes. There’s a huge conspiracy behind the developers of 2B and her other companions. So we, as the player, have to find out by going through the different landscapes and scenery this critically-acclaimed game has to offer.

No other game really captures a melancholic, post-apocalyptic, cyborg-ridden world much like NieR: Automata does. The world itself is a treat to look at. The designs of the landscapes as well as the characters go above and beyond the stereotypical post-apocalyptic fantasy setting.

The gameplay and story rival those of some of the most classic games and pieces of literature. It’s a hack-and-slash with such a soft, woeful undertone to it that despite having such gorgeous scenery and fast-paced action, you can’t help but feel for the world and the characters you’re playing.

I love how this game is a piece of art - the combat included. Some of the puzzles and bosses do get a bit confusing at times, but that definitely doesn’t take away from the top-tier experience you get from playing this extraordinary masterpiece.

1. Devil May Cry 5 | Microsoft Windows, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS5

Really, need I say more? Devil May Cry 5 is the latest game out of the entire Devil May Cry franchise. It was a long-awaited game that had many DMC fans slowly giving up on the developers. But let me tell you, it was a game that exceeded all expectations. I could even say it’s the best Devil May Cry game ever created - because it is.

The game is about one of our favorite (deadweight) Devil Hunters named Nero. He must navigate Redgrave City because out of nowhere, a gargantuan demon-tree known as the Qliphoth has plagued the city. What’s more is that the legendary Devil Hunter Dante has gone missing, so now it’s up to Nero to find out what’s happening in the city and what happened to his good ol’ “friend” Dante.

Off the bat, this game is hovering between a 9/10 and a 10/10. It has great combat, especially with the iconic style point system. It really forces you to come up with new and innovative combos to make sure you’re getting the entire feel of the game.

Storywise, it’s straight-forward and simplistic with some elements from the older games that we veteran fans love to see a lot. Setting-wise, however, everything is unique and beautifully generated until you get to the levels inside the tree. The environment is a bit bleak and more or less the same all throughout these later levels.

Nonetheless, DMC 5 is a gorgeous game with some of the most iconic characters and gameplay features that have ever graced our gaming consoles and PCs.

Do you ever get a pump in your body that you just can’t explain?

Superhero movies, Daredevil edits by some Russian dude, listening to “Guns & Roses” while on a drive. A sensation of having to do something, anything.

A sensation like you could take on the world, or compete in American Ninja Warrior, or do a single-handed push-up.

Some games are perfect for that. Some games take that rush of energy, magnify it, and direct you to the closest available demon for an action frenzy like you’ve never seen before.

They also have the added bonus of not breaking your nose.

I can’t do a single-handed push-up, as it turns out.

So. As a public health announcement, I’m here to bring you the top 10 Best Demon Slayer Games to play today. So you can channel all of that righteous, aggressive energy into something a little less… let’s say hospitalizing.

10. Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice (PC / PS4 / XBOX One / Nintendo Switch)

In Hellblade, you fight very literal metaphorical demons.

Senua, the game’s protagonist, suffers from psychosis. Her condition is at times both an aide and an obstacle, as she dives into hell to save the soul of her beloved.

Hellbalde is a lot of things. It’s action-packed, it’s scary, emotional, mesmerizing. It’s overall just a fantastic game.

The game’s developers even worked with neuroscientists to make sure that the condition was portrayed with fidelity and respect.

The reason why it’s on this list, however, is its incredibly creative depiction of hellspawn.

The “demons” that Senua faces are well designed, imposing, and challenging as Helheim.

This is a unique game if there ever was one, and a great game for anyone interested in a healthy mix of action and character-driven drama.

9. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (PC / PS3 / XBOX 360)

Castlevania is one of those sagas that just cannot be ignored. For a short while there, we even referred to a whole genre of games as “Metroidvania” (the metro part because they were about 3 feet long).

Lords of Shadow is one of the flagship games of the franchise. Making the most of the wonderfully deranged mind of Kojima and a selected group of A-list actors (hello, hello Captain Picard), Lords of Shadow brought a whole new level of cinematic quality to the saga as a whole.

The game is dramatic and big in every way. Like an old burlesque show. It was camp and proud of it before that became, as the kids call it, “cool.”

The plot is about as convoluted and dizzying as you should expect from a Kojima game, but the stellar execution means that you’ll never lose immersion.

The game’s graphic fidelity reached a series peak at the time it was originally launched, and it has retained its charm even over a decade later.

Also, not to spoil anything, but you get to fight Satan, like the Satan. I really can’t think of a more demon-y demon to slay.

8. Saints Row: Gat out of Hell (PC / PS3 / PS4 / XBOX 360 / XBOX One)

You might have dismissed Saints Row in the early aughts as “that game that isn’t GTA.”

I couldn’t blame you for it, I know I did. The first two Saints Row games play like someone sat in a meeting and said “I would love GTA if it weren’t for all that pesky subtlety.”

It’s still a shame if you did though because the third and fourth games are just unbelievably fun.

They are carnivals filled with color, explosions, laugh-out-loud humor. Besides, I don’t think there’s a single game out there that does the ridiculous, blood-pumping finale over full-volume cheesy eighties ballads like Saints Row does.

Gat out of Hell is a standalone expansion to the fourth game. It takes place in hell and it has all the demon-hurting violence that your heart could crave.

The game features every cool thing about SR4’s over-the-top combat plus some new weapons for your arsenal and the option to fly around using a pair of flaming wings.

When it comes to causing mayhem and having fun, no one does it like the Saints.

7. Bayonetta 2 (Wii U / Nintendo Switch)

Okay, let me clear something up before you get all technical on me.

Yes, it’s true that what you slay in the Bayonetta games aren’t quite demons. Yes, it’s true that they are kind of the opposite thing.

BUT, as the powerful witch Bayonetta, you do have access to the forces of hell. Demons are part of the arsenal of insane items that you can call at any moment to help you reach the gates of hell and save your best friend from damnation.

And the game is a hack-n-slash. So, I think it’s fair to say that your demons will be doing a lot of slaying in this ridiculous, over-the-top romp of a game that has a little something for everyone. So long as they are into giraffe-legged witches that wear garments made from their own magic hair, dual wield enormous guns and turn into huge angel-stabbing monsters.

So, pretty much everyone, right?

6. Nioh 2 (PC / PS4 / PS5)

Nioh 2 is a fascinating game because of the setting alone. The game takes place in the warring states period of Japanese history, and it takes huge inspiration from historical sources to tell its story.

The game is thoroughly researched, from the historical figures making an appearance to the little details of the environment and set design. Everything in the game’s story and setting seems to be taken straight out of a history book about feudal japan.

Everything but the huge, scary, and powerful demons. I mentioned those, right?

Not every demon looks like it came out of the Dante’s Inferno version of hell. That is certainly true of the yōkai of Nioh 2.

The enemy design is inspired by traditional folklore, but it blends in a healthy dose of nightmare fuel.

The game is a soulslike, which means that you will not go through these enemies with the carelessness of a fast-paced shooter. Ancient demons should be commendable enemies, after all.

Nioh is hard as nails, unique in its setting, and a frustratingly good time. If you feel like there should be a real weight to demon-slaying, I promise Nioh 2 feels the same way.

5. Devil May Cry 5 (PC / PS4 / PS5 / XBOX One / XBOX Series X)

We give artistic licenses to video games more than any other medium.

We wouldn’t read a book and think “this character with a huge triangle for a head sure is scary!”

We wouldn’t watch a TV show where the main character runs around collecting feathers and finding pans while the main story happens in the background.

And we sure as hell wouldn’t tolerate whatever’s going on in Devil May Cry anywhere else.

The fifth entry in the saga dares to ask the question: what if we did everything cool about the first games, but more?

DMC 5 is a fest of camp fun, over-the-top violence, and characters that we could –and are in fact encouraged to– look at for hours.

The game isn’t just for veterans of the series, either. Whatever doesn’t make sense from the plot will still pretty much not make any sense in this sequel, and everything that is fun about the game will still be fun without any previous knowledge.

The game has a total of three playable protagonists, each of them apparently trying to out-concept each other. The moveset and weapons are all ridiculous and loud.

Devil May Cry 5 is a lot of things, subtle isn’t one of them.

But if you’re in the market for the videogame equivalent of that experiment where rats pushed a feel-good button until they starved to death, then Devil May Cry 5 is exactly what you need, and maybe a shower.

The game is still in early access, but even so, it’s an absolute must-play for anyone interested in the epic stories of the forgotten realms.

Diablo 3 is a top-down role-playing action-adventure game. In a very similar vein to Baldur’s Gate.

The game has a beautiful and complex dark fantasy setting that will have you making your way through the forces of hell to save the world.

The game was released almost ten years ago, and it’s still going strong, hailed by some as one of the best games of all time.

Diablo 3 has the staples of everything that Blizzard does best: the addictive and engaging combat loop, the rich story and lore, and the combination of strategy and awareness needed to win any match.

Diablo 3 tests your wits and your patience as well as your reflexes and sleight-of-hand. Also, it’s a finished game, take that Baldur’s Gate!

2. Bloodborne ( PS4 / PS5)

From Software are absolute titans in the industry, their distinctive approach to game design has created an entire genre of games, literally referred to as “soulslikes.”

Bloodborne is as much of an ordeal as it is a game. It is impossibly hard, the mechanics are complex and punishing, and the game refuses to give you any concessions at all. This is all par for the course.

Even so, Bloodborne manages to be unique within its niche. In contrast to the Souls games, Bloodborne’s action is lighting fast. The addition of gunplay elements and the enemy design turn the slow-marching battles of the Souls games into a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it test of skill and perseverance.

The game mixes Gothic and Lovecraftian inspirations to create a truly unique visual style.

The demons in Bloodborne feel like larger-than-life abominations. Things that no human should be able to fully understand.

In Bloodborne, the fight against the forces of evil is hard, terrifying, and ill-advised, and yet, all you’ll want to do is keep playing.

When it comes to slaying demons and feeling like an action-hardened badass, there’s nowhere else to go but Doom Eternal.

The game’s plot once again finds you in the soles of the world’s angriest man as he finds creative, new ways to split various demons into various parts.

Everything about Eternal is a masterclass in level design. The gunplay is intricate and exciting and the game motivates you to always keep moving. The adaptative soundtrack and masterful sound design get you into the perfect headspace to obliterate some demons.

The probably hasn’t been a single game quite as exciting as Doom Eternal in recent years, and I very much doubt there will be one any time soon.

If you’re an adrenaline junkie with an ax to grind, Doom Eternal is the game to go.

God! Even writing about Doom Eternal gets my blood pumping. I mean, we know about single-handed push-ups, but do you think I can do a single-handed pull-up? I bet I can, or parkour, or MMA fighting...

But sex as a means to sell games has itself become an art. While some developers have mastered subtlety, portraying characters in a manner that is sexy yet non-demeaning, others remain committed to overdoing the whole thing, and end up coming off as obscene.

9. Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson

Ah, Senran Kagura. When your video game series is made in Japan and stars a bunch of buxom female ninjas, you know exactly what you’re getting into.

One of the most recent entries in the franchise, Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson, is a side-scrolling beat ‘em up exclusive to the Nintendo 3DS. You control impractically dressed shinobi warriors as they fight their way through waves of other impractically dressed shinobi warriors.

Expect a lot of uncomfortable camera angles, and weird, jiggly things that look like breasts, but behave like nothing you’ll ever find on the chest of a real-life woman.

8. Gal*Gun: Double Peace

After a while, it gets boring shooting monsters and terrorists between the eyes. So why not use your love gun to shoot girls in their erogenous zones?

Well, at least that’s what the developers of Gal*Gun: Double Peace were probably thinking when they made their game – a rail shooter that has you shooting “pheromone shots” at girls to make them fall head over heels in love with you. Why? So you can find your true love, of course! Now, doesn’t that make sense?

And what’s a game about falling in love if it doesn’t involve see-through clothing and loads of sensuous moaning?

7. TERA: Rising

Free-to-play TERA: Rising has all the elements of a classic fantasy MMORPG: hundreds of quests, crafting, grinding, and of course, warrior women in ridiculous skimpy armor.

Its bevy of beauties range from the tall, busty and long-legged to the tiny and adorable... only those costumes leave so little to the imagination that it gets a little weird. To be fair, some of the male costumes are just as revealing.

Also, to its credit, TERA: Rising impresses with its real-time combat. In fact, it was one of the first few MMORPGs to do away with the “click on enemy till it dies” gameplay. In TERA: Rising, you have to actively dodge strikes, and your attacks need to be timed correctly to land.

It’s among the sexiest games in the industry, and thankfully, it’s also fun to play!

6. Bayonetta, Bayonetta 2

Why do we love Bayonetta? She’s a badass who knows just how hot she is.

Bayonetta is strong, intelligent, witty, elegant... and she owns her sexuality with all the confidence of a queen. She has one of the most seductive resting faces in gaming – and she wears glasses too, which warms the hearts of nerds everywhere. Did we mention she was asleep in a coffin for 500 years? We’re betting her breath still smells heavenly.

This fantasy martial arts MMORPG from South Korea has been wowing gamers all over the world with its stunning graphics. And by that we mean the exquisite CG environments.

Okay, we also mean the character models, specifically the women and their stimulating yet cringe-worthy wardrobe choices. These gals have got it all: unreasonably revealing costumes, skin that glistens as if they’ve just emerged from a tub of oil, extra-thick eyelashes, and voluminous, elegant hair. You have to wonder: are they getting ready for a battle, or a beauty contest?

Fortunately, Blade & Soul isn’t just a good-looking game starring uncomfortably hypersexualized women. Its battle system is in real time, and employs a combo system that brings to mind the fighting game genre. For those outside Asia who are eager to play one of the sexiest games in the industry, they won’t have to wait long to try Blade & Soul; it’s coming out in Europe and the USA in early 2016.

4. Lollipop Chainsaw

A cheerleader in a microskirt who fights using a chainsaw? Well of course you know it’s going to be about more than just zombies!

Lollipop Chainsaw is a hack and slash action game starring the smoking hot Juliet Starling, a zombie-hunting cheerleader who has a head for a boyfriend. Actually, the boyfriend originally came with a body, until she had to lop his head off to prevent his zombification. Did we mention he survived decapitation?

If that sounds ridiculous, that’s because the entire game is insane. Zombie rockers, outrageous violence, cut scenes featuring Juliet in compromising positions, and campy dialogues replete with sexual innuendos are what Lollipop Chainsaw is all about. So if you enjoy your gore which huge dollops of sex, Lollipop Chainsaw is the game to play.

3. Dead or Alive 5 Last Round

Some say the Dead or Alive series is nothing more than a jiggle physics simulation disguised as a fighting game. While that would be unfair to the series – which has produced some genuinely solid fighting titles – you can’t blame the detractors. One look at the women in the franchise’s ever-expanding roster should be enough to tell you why.

From Kasumi to Tina, these are some of the most titillating character designs in the history of gaming. And you can tell where all the money you gave the franchise by buying their games went to by how realistically those CG breasts bounce. Love it or hate it, the developers have mastered the hard science of video game breast physics.

As the latest entry in the series, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round boasts excellent visuals. But hey, when it isn’t busy being naughty, the game is actually a great fighter – one you’ll still play long after you’ve gotten over (or gotten tired of) its explicitly sexual content.

2. Scarlet Blade

There are games that aren’t afraid of exposing a little skin, of resorting to fan service every now and then to appeal to those among the audience who enjoy that sort of thing.

Up to now, we’re not quite sure what Scarlet Blade (a.k.a Queen’s Blade in Korea) is about, but it seems to be a science fiction MMORPG populated by femme fatales who harbor a passionate hatred for sensible clothing. Seriously, the costumes in Scarlet Blade spit in the face of physics, and make the scantily clad women of fantasy games such as World of Warcraft look like Maria von Trapp from The Sound of Music.

Simply put, Scarlet Blade boasts an over-the-top raunchiness that’s hard to swallow. It may be one of the sexiest games in existence, but that comes at the cost of good taste. But hey, at least we can’t fault the game for not knowing its audience!

With Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, the Dead or Alive franchise isn’t even trying anymore. Here’s a game that’s being developed for the express purpose of having you ogle 3D female body parts.

Well, okay, maybe they are trying – just a teeny bit. You see, Dead or Alive Xtreme 3, like the previous titles in the beach volleyball spinoffs, isn’t a fighting game, but a sports game! Where you just happen to have the option to dress the girls in tiny pieces of string, fabric, and sometimes, the local island plant life. These girls are practically playing in the nude, but hey, as long as the important bits are (barely) covered up, we can still classify this as sports!

Definitely one of the sexiest games coming out next year!

5. Nova Terra, from StarCraft

StarCraft’s Nova Terra is a lethal Terran ghost whose flying kiss is synonymous to a nuclear explosion – literally.

Nova was born to a wealthy Confederate “Old Family,” which is then slaughtered by anti-Confederate rebels. Nova escapes to Tarsonis, where she’s captured by and forced to work for an organized crime ring. After she gains her freedom – thanks to a Zerg invasion and the intervention from a Ghost Program agent – Terra is finally brought to the Ghost Academy for training. Now a ghost, she uses her psionic powers in service of the Terran Dominion.

Nova makes notable appearances in the StarCraft II games, and kicks some major tail in Heroes of the Storm.

4. Samus Aran, from Metroid

Those heels look like they can kill

One of gaming’s first true heroines, Samus Aran has been simultaneously kicking ass and melting our hearts since 1986.

As an intergalactic bounty hunter, Samus if often seen suited up in power armor that hides an arsenal of weapons from missiles to directed energy guns. Her suit can also transform into a ball, allowing her access into narrow spaces. Shedding the armor reveals Samus in a skintight Zero Suit that leaves little to the imagination and is known to have an effect on fanboys akin to an epileptic seizure.

One of the toughest women in the galaxy, Samus hunts Space Pirates and her arch nemesis Ridley, as well as those jellyfish-like energy vampires known as Metroids. In her spare time, she likes sparring with the likes of Mario and Donkey Kong.

3. Jill Valentine, from Resident Evil

She looks great in uniform

Women in horror are too often depicted as helpless screamers. Thank you, Capcom, for giving us Jill Valentine – the antithesis of the stereotypical woman who is paralyzed with fear at the smallest sign of trouble.

We know Jill from the very first Resident Evil game, where she and fellow S.T.A.R.S. members are trapped in a mansion crawling with the undead. She survives that incident, thanks to her resourcefulness and remarkable firearms skills. In Resident Evil 3, she emerges unscathed despite wearing clothes that provide absolutely zero protection against zombie bites. Not that we’re complaining – she’s absolutely delectable in that tight tube top and miniskirt.

Now, as the founder of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance, she spends her days fighting bioterrorism, which is just a fancy name for the zombie holocaust.

Few video game babes are as tough as Jill, and for that, she earns a spot on this list.

2. Lara Croft, from Tomb Raider

Covered in filth, but still hot

Lara Croft made us realize that yes, it’s possible to fall in love with polygons.

Intelligent, beautiful, athletic, and an accomplished marksman to boot, English adventurer and archaeologist Lara Croft won her way into many hearts when her first game was released in 1996. From then on, the world hasn’t been able to get enough of her and her… comically enormous assets. Sure, her popularity’s waxed and waned over the years, leading to one reboot in 2006, and another more successful one in 2013. But Lara’s always been that girl – the girl we just can’t let go.

Sure, she’s more of a bow-and-arrow girl these days, but Lara’s always been a gun girl. Towards the end of the 2013 reboot, she even uses guns in both hands, like she does in her original, iconic incarnation. She’s a little more unstable now, courtesy of her harrowing experiences in Yamatai. But she’s also more believable, more alive. She’s been to the darkest place imaginable and survived, and she’s stronger – not to mention all the more beautiful – for it.

Dark elegance

Ah, Bayonetta. The gal who is either 20 feet tall, or has a head the size of a plum.

Her unusual proportions notwithstanding, Bayonetta is HOT, and she knows it, owning her sexuality with all the confidence of a queen. And she wears glasses too, which warms the hearts of nerds everywhere. Did we mention she was asleep in a coffin for 500 years? We’re betting her breath still smelled heavenly.

But Bayonetta’s not just about killer looks. She’s got the moves and the weapons to match. Pistols in both hands? How yesterday. Bayonetta has guns attached to her feet. And those long, luscious locks? They transform into giant demons – which must make her the terror of all hairdressers.

So beware, you self-righteous do-gooders – look for someone else to burn at your stake, because this is one dark witch who’ll fight back.
