It’s 2021, and Battlefields sniping meta has evolved again.

Sure, our tips can't save you from a 4000lb mosquito bomb but what can? Those things are bathtubs of TNT. BFV has a weapon for every strategy but today we're going to focus on rifles that consistently kill. Sniping is as rewarding as it is frustrating, let's at least start with a great weapon.

#5 M3 Infrared “the Lurker”

Like most people, your first impressions of this gun are: This is a hot piece of garbage, thanks dice. Then you’re probably thinking: Wait, snipers can have smoke, I’ll deploy smoke and use the infrared to drop all the blind fools! You’d be wrong again, it can’t see through smoke and it’s not a piece of garbage. It is, however, a flanker’s dream. Firing flares and spotting everyone you shoot is nothing new but doing it without attracting attention is indeed exotic. This gun makes you a ghost, to exploit this weapon simply lurk 20+ feet away from your team and fire from weird angles.

Disclaimer: You will die in an evenly matched 1v1 but that's not what this gun is for and don’t get discouraged. Update 7 made subterfuge possible with silencers. However, don’t be a dumb ninja. Pick all your fights and reposition if you attract the attention of an angry squad. You're looking for those angles and you can loiter there longer, but that doesn't mean you’ll never be noticed.

Major Exploits

No Hit Cues: battlefield does a great job of cueing the player to a hostile direction; the M3 on the other hand gives none of these signals
No Tracers: there's barely a muzzle flash and zero tracers
Back Stabber: with un-silenced weapons, it's usually known you can frag 2 enemies before they get wise to your violence. With the M3 you can reload and shoot time and time again. You normally die to griefers who saw your location after death so be on the lookout for these folks, they’re the ones sprinting directly at you
Prone Hipper: it’s acutely accurate in a no scope/prone scenario

Sure your teammates may be screaming at you “You’re not helping from back there!” But those are usually the blueberries who heal someone in front of an enemy tiger. Truth is, the K98 is a get-a-kill-free card. Its bullet speed can't be beaten. On top of that, pairing it with the bipod allows you to stay on target without pesky breath mechanics. This added accuracy makes predicting the slight drop your only concern. Use this kit when you want to blind an enemy team.

Snipers get a bad rep., that may be due to their inability to defend, that's why it’s good for the gander to grab yourself a Lee-Enfield and decimate on the move. If you’re chivalrous and are iron sighting, then this is your gun. Like popping sniper glints? Great, this gun excels at leapfrogging from cover and breaking up enemy sniper/mg parties (campers). This guns for the impatient and nourishes aggro personas.

Major Exploits:

DPS: This thing unhindered can bonk, however, it’s noisy like all bolt action rifles so keep moving especially if you’ve “drawn all the fires”
Versatility: Choose between high accuracy or fast reload to suit your style
Aggro Builds: This gun can be kitted to full aggression, push, push, shoot then stab with the specialization line depicted in the picture below (L, R, R, L)
Fastest Reload: It’s the quickest bolt action in the game
Fully Specced: This gun comes with all you need, there are no wrong choices - unless you go without the bayonet but that's just silly no one would do such a thing

This bad boy’s controversial but still delivers powerful blows in 2021. It cycles quicker than its brother the panzerbüchse 39 so it makes up for less vehicle damage. Tanks are not what these flag poles are designed to deal with. Whether it is BFV or 1939 you wouldn’t bring a rifle to a tank fight. So what to shoot? Inf is the answer, within 100 meters the Boys AT one-shots soft targets and can injure hard ones.

Major Exploits:

Boom: Gotta love the sound and the damage is only rivaled by its slower firing cousin “büchse”
Penetration: It brings its might through walls and soldiers, sometimes a stubborn round is what you need
Sturdy: This thing fires true when deployed, if you missed it was either your fault or the enemies serpentine skills
Deployed Menace: It has a pragmatic grouping when “prone no-scoping”
Hip “No Scoping” Gambler: In a pinch, you can blast people point blank if you miss your dead, but if you don’t fire your dead
Long Tom: one-shot kills anywhere within a hundred meters

Most of the rifles we speak of reward discipline. Not the Gewehr 95, this gun throws down and won’t leave you punished in the process. It decimates passive players where they lie. The M95 endures fewer movement penalties to accuracy than its kin, allowing you to sneak up on prone victims and place a shot on their noggin. It's the bane of mgs and the scourge of enemy snipers who don’t expect you to “come from there”.

Major Exploits

Snappiest: this gun just delivers follow-up shots like no other; It may be slightly slower than the Lee-Enfield but its bounce back accuracy is more consistent
Consistency: It’s the most balanced sniper rifle in the game
Historic: when iron sighting you truly feel like a volks grenadier
Balanced Reload: whether you’re throwing 4 rounds in your chamber or 1 it takes the same time
Stripper Access: a stripper clip is available regardless of your scope choice

So what guns still wreck hard? Truth is, thanks to balancing tweaks they all do in some way or form. We’re going to show you the ones that excel in their point siphoning roles. These aft mentioned bangers have a serious edge in their neighborhood and we’re going to tell you why.

#10: M1911 Suppressed “Hattori Clan”

1911 does more than suppress enemies in the fire on Iwo Jima, BFV, 2021

This gun's louder cousin was a meme in patch 5.2, it's time to kill rivaled the FG-42. Now it's 2021 and it still wrecks people, plus it's silent! Maybe it should be seen as your second primary? The hip-fire dispersion for all pistols is minimal so keep spamming that fire button and watch the skulls pop up.

Silent: if they haven't seen you yet consider using this gun as an opener, its stealth might grant you more kills
Accurate: the 1911 just finds heads, place the iron sight on the does shoulders, and voila

#9: Sturmgewehr 44 “Erika”

The Sturmgewehr is by far my favorite gun in the game. It’s not the best at anything but it can do plenty in the right hands. In Battlefield V, one minute you can be holding a 4x4 pillbox and the next you could be zigzagging down a valley avoiding sniper fire. This diversity forces you to adopt a more reactionary style. That's why you should reach for das Sturmgewehr, with this glory you can paint bullets on enemy positions and dodge while doing it.

Sure, they’ve been steadily nerfing the beast since the game's inception but it’s still the closest thing to the all-around “M4” of previous titles. Its counterpart the Sturmgewehr 1-5 is certainly good and some like its higher rate of fire better but the STG 44 has less crouched recoil and a better feel for the moments you're forced to shoot at things out of your comfort zone.

Major Exploits

Control: your ADS recoil in full auto is manageable for the engagements you should be accepting
Fire on the Move: you can produce tight groupings in full auto regardless of stance
Quick Bursts: if your patient in between bursts you'll reap rewards, this guns third round is close to its first making it ideal for "shoot-and-scooters"

With the smallest recoil dispersion of all the “Heavy SLRs” and the ability to inflict 40-45 damage per round, it's clear why M1s are still popular on the field. The lack of recoil allows you to unload until you hear that tell-tale PING!

It’s that sound we’ve all been waiting for and it doesn't disappoint, the fact that it's precise and powerful is just icing on the cake.

Snappiest: your follow up shots are unparalleled due to the smallest vertical recoil
Historical Juice: this gun sounds great
Clear Sight: you’ll see more than most weapons in class through the M1’s iron sights
Diverse: the M1's hip-fire is borderline dependable
Transforms: “Heavy Load” specialization allows you to have more punch(45) at the cost of control, this will bring your rifle more in line with the G43 and Karabin 1938. All 3 of those rifles rock just find which feels best for you

#7: M1928A1 “Tommy Gun”

The Thompson submachine gun throws swarms of bees at people. Heavy bees. It falls in the class of “NEVER FAIL SMGS”. It sits there with the Suomi, the type 2A, and the MP28. They lay waste to things seen and sometimes not seen. In other words, you can “check bushes” or “check smoke” with bullets. The M1928A1 is the more rounded of the crafty aforementioned buggers. It positively reinforces aggressive behavior and can defend a room to boot. Just stay away from long engagements and you’re golden.

Fire on the Fly: the Tommy guns spread feels great in hip-fire
Tight: it's got the best bullet grouping of all the +700RPM SMGS, however, the recoil does kick and when it does it goes up by .86° which makes it more predictable than the type 2A’s left and right recoil of .72°-.42°, or the Suomi’s rightward recoil of .56°!
Well Fed: 50 round mag available through spec tree for all your spray and pray needs
Relative Damage: it’s rounds subtract 25.1hp while the faster Type 2A suckles a meager 20.1hp

If you want to keep a safer* distance as a medic the Jungle Carbine is a kit worth testing. It can acquire a blistering rate of fire of 99 rpm while maintaining distance from the pesky SMGs. It’s an assault medics dream, it drops placid players with a 1 shot headshot and can win fights against self-loaders and semi-autos. This allows you to exploit your new found flank rather than cross that river before opening fire.

Major Exploits

Squad Friendly: medic doesn’t have to be the point-man to return fire
1 Shot: one of the quickest reloading “one-shotters” in the game (56 dmg,99 rpm)
Velocity: you’ll find it hits more, probably due to it launching the quickest bullet in class
Snappy: this gun is second shot friendly, if you miss just keep firing
Grin Factor: you feel like a boss with this gun, it forces you to count on your accuracy, and when it pays off its clip worthy, to say the least

You’ll notice there are no shotguns on this list. We have nothing against them but there are other support options that double as mid-range suppressors like our benevolent friend of overwhelming generosity the MG-42. Hip fire for hilarity or use the prone hip fire to decimate foes in the mid-range while maintaining glorious FOV. Just remember, you’re the biggest bait in the game for tanks and snipers alike so be wary of exposure.

Major Exploits

ROF: the highest rate of fire in the game means you can mow down squads
Velocity: the fastest bullet of all MG’s, your rounds are going to get there in a blink of a salty eye
Flashless Propellant: like all the other MMG’s with the MG42 you can go a route less likely to get shot in the face, it’s advised but not mandatory, bigger clips are fun too
Incendiary Bullets: these guys hurt and are apparently better for aircraft, I’ve tested this out and you should only fire at planes that are already burning…... Ironic right? Thanks Dice.
Disclaimer: Firing at planes that are not burning will show said plane exactly where you are whilst achieving minimal damage. Your team and country would rather you used that mg for more pragmatic engagements.

Hey look Everybody there’s actually an LMG in the game now! It’s been years since DICE nerfed all the machine guns in BF1 and subsequently passed the disease to BFV.

Nevermore says the Chauchat... BFV finally received a hard-hitting LMG (35 damage) when this french bulldog arrived on June 4, 2020. Since then it's been pinning fools. Use this and it’ll feel like you’re hurling spears at the enemy. When you get a headshot you know that player is about to start running in which case your carefully placed second slug can land wherever it pleases to complete the kill. Sure it kicks, but so do mules and their useful AF.

Major Exploits

Damage: best damage in class
Range: best drop off damage of all MG’s, aka best range in class
Sound: the grinding sound it produces makes it feel like an Auto Cannon
Fun: This gun requires practice but can deliver the killing blow quickly which makes it immersive and enjoyable

People like to hide behind small walls in FPS games, so grab yourself a Piat… My best friend is a piat. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve died with this weapon in my hand and a grin on my face but that doesn't matter; what matters is the way the sparks erupt from anything it’s lil’ 1.1 kg face comes into contact with. We’re playing battlefield here people! So let's blow some vehicles and buildings up.

They’re on the other side of the sandbags you took refuge behind?

You probably should dynamite. Or retreat and Piat for the lols.

You get the idea tho. For an AT weapon, it’s more versatile than the bazooka or faust. It’s a noob tube that is anything but. It requires leet skills to master and once you’re a piat practitioner you have become death: destroyer of kubelwagens. Use your splash damage wisely then quickly switch back to your AR of choice to riddle the remaining rabble.

Major Exploits

DESTRUCTOR: this weapon has the potential for aggression, suppression, and all-out destruction
Splash Damage: splash damage is really useful on some maps but don’t forget people who take splash explosive damage usually egress cover, you should always switch back to a fast firing gun to finish their panicked ars off
AT Potency: it can two-shot many vehicles; to single-handedly kill the heaviest tanks you need to first get dynamite on them and only after you detonate those switch to the piat and place one on the trunk if possible - it’s dangerous but hopefully, your team is creating massive distractions

If you’re a Medic in Battlefield V 2021 you probably understand the importance of speed. You need a weapon capable of accurate counter-fire… Or at least accuracy by numbers. If you said yes to all of the above you’ll want to check out one of these maniacs. They all excel in their roles whilst keeping you mobile.

5: Grease Gun “Sneaky Chonker Dispenser”

It's BFV, a very noisy game where you try to shoot noisy people while not drawing fire on yourself. How do you achieve this? How about 33.4 damage, no tracers, and 449 rpm. Bam! Grease gun! Slap a whole trench full of plebs with 45 caliber slugs and then... reloading… Kill their unaware friends! You have 10 seconds of free reign before the people you killed respawn nearby and come griefing. When that happens just be ready… Listen carefully, and try to engage them 1v1 using walls and cover. A suppressed grease gun simply allows you to have private fights within the battlefield.

Silent: grease gun makes much less noise with the suppressor specialization

Mulligans: you’ll get many do-overs thanks to the huge mag size available for spec.
Easy to use: it's really simple to kill with, you barely have to ADS

The G-43 is part of the heavy Self Loading Rifle (SLR) family but it has an edge. The specialization "Detachable Mags" allows you to have the fastest heavy SLR reload in the game. Couple that with a decent hip-fire and you’ll feel like you have your pants pulled up a little further in those close engagements BFV frequently forces us into.

IV: Sturmgewehr 44 “Erika”

The Sturmgewehr is by far my favorite gun in the game. It’s not the best at anything but it can do plenty in the right hands. In Battlefield V, one minute you can be holding a 4x4 pillbox and the next you could be zigzagging down a valley avoiding sniper fire. This diversity forces you to adopt a more reactionary style. That's when you should reach for das Sturmgewehr, with this glory you can paint bullets on enemy positions and dodge while doing it.

Sure, they’ve been steadily nerfing the beast since the game's inception but it’s still the closest thing to the all-around “M4” of previous titles. Its counterpart: the Sturmgewehr 1-5 is good and some like its higher rate of fire better, but the STG 44 has less crouch recoil and a better feel for the moments you're forced to shoot at things out of your comfort zone.

Control: your ADS recoil in full auto is manageable for the engagements you should be accepting
Fire on the Move: you can produce tight groupings in full auto regardless of stance

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve died with this weapon in my hand and a grin on my face but that doesn't matter; what matters is the way the sparks erupt from anything its lil’ 1.1 kg face comes into contact with. We’re playing as Assault here people! So let's blow some vehicles and buildings up.

You get the idea. It’s a noob tube that is anything but. It requires leet skills to master and once you’re a piat practitioner you have become death: destroyer of kubelwagens. Use your splash damage wisely then quickly switch back to your AR/SLR of choice to riddle the remaining rabble.

DESTRUCTOR: this weapon has the potential for aggression, suppression, and all-out destruction
Splash Damage: splash damage is useful on some maps but don’t forget people who take splash explosive damage usually egress cover, you should always switch back to a fast firing gun to finish their panicked ars off
AT Potency: it can two-shot many vehicles, however, to single-handedly kill the heaviest tanks you need to first get dynamite on them, and only after you detonate those switch to the piat and place one on the trunk if possible - it’s dangerous but hopefully, your team is creating massive distractions

Maybe it’s due to Battlefield V's new meta and its unfriendliness to MMGs, these days you'll be hard-pressed to get a good MG position and when you do the chances of blueberries blocking your FOV are 99.9999%. That's why a good amount of us are reaching for our less cumbersome LMG. So with that in mind grab your shape charges and let’s go over some yippy fellas that require less reloading whilst inspiring new metas.

3: M1918 A2 Browning Automatic Rifle “leet lmg”

B.A.R. with all the Jungle Drippings... and house keys?

At first, this thing was hard to handle and I wasn’t sure what role it fulfilled. This lasted 5 minutes then it quickly shared its deadly secrets. The B.A.R. tries to fulfill all the roles and it has completely stolen our beloved FG-42s position as the aggressive light machine gun of choice... Cries in fallschirmjager.

So, If you want something that can hit from afar with single-fire or spray someone point-blank against the wall then just grab yourself a BAR. It’s a faster firing FG-42 with slightly more side-to-side recoil (.35° rather than .22°). If you’re learning how to tame this beast make sure to only expose yourself to 1 enemy at a time. That way you can reload and put another 5-20 rounds in the others.

Disclaimer: this thing is tied for the loudest LMG with Chauchat! ... If or rather when enemies inevitably counterattack your position: stay low, listen for those angry footsteps, and then let the B.A.R. reintroduce itself.

Tap for Accuracy: your single-shot grouping will be extremely tight with this weapon, that's why it’s the leet choice: slow down your rate of fire and it becomes a self-loading rifle with a bigger magazine

Hey, look everybody there’s actually an LMG in the game now! It’s been years since DICE nerfed all the machine guns in BF1 and subsequently passed the disease to BFV.

Nevermore says the Chauchat... BFV finally received its hard-hitting LMG when this french bulldog arrived on June 4, 2020. Since then it's been pinning fools. Use this and it’ll feel like you’re hurling spears at the enemy. When you get a headshot you know that player is about to start running in which case your carefully placed second slug can land wherever it pleases to complete the kill. Sure it kicks, but so do mules and their useful AF.

Range: best drop off damage of all MG’s, aka best range in class
Sound: the grinding sound it produces makes it feel like an Auto Cannon

Two rifles are better than nothing, I guess. While Battlefield V only has a total of two anti-material rifles, DICE did do a good enough job of making them distinct enough from one another. Here we'll guide you through the main differences in each one so you can figure out which one, if any, suits your playstyle best.

2. Panzerbüchse 39 (Good)

"Compared to most anti-tank rifles, the Panzerbüchse 39 fires a very light projectile at very high velocity, relying on speed rather than mass to penetrate armor." - in-game description

The second of the two anti-material rifles available, the Panzerbüchse, was introduced in the fourth Tides of War, "Defying the Odds" in September of 2019. It operates, in principle, almost identical to the Boys AT but with a different loading/magazine mechanism.

Panzerbüchse 39 review

The Panzerbüchse has a slightly higher damage model than the Boys AT, but both are still capable of one-hit-kills to the upper chest out to 100 meters.
Like MMG's and the Boys AT, the bipod must be deployed to aim-down-sights – this is especially crucial due to the Panzerbüchse's high-precision nature.
Despite its similarities, the Panzerbüchse loses out to the Boys in terms of operating speed and reload consistency.
As its category suggests, this rifle can take out most planes and light vehicles. While ineffective at killing tanks, this rifle is more than capable of disabling them with well-placed shots to the treads/turret.

1. Boys AT Rifle (Best)

The first of the two anti-material rifles introduced, the Boys AT Rifle caused quite a stir upon release – it's one-shot-kill to the upper-chest was seen as game-breaking and downright cheesy. Since then, only the attitudes have changed; once it became clear just how clunky and awkward the rifle was to use, no one seemed to care anymore.

The main advantage above the Panzerbüchse 39 is the Detachable Magazines that come standard, which keeps reloads faster and more consistent.
Perhaps more importantly, the Boys AT has a significantly higher rate of fire – which carries much more weight as both rifles have double-digit fire-rates.
It can take out tank tracks with ease, as well as light vehicles and planes, although heavy vehicles should be approached carefully.
The only thing separating it from being completely OP is the cumbersome bipod requirement, which will get users killed nine times out of ten before they even get a chance to aim.

The anti-material rifles can be a good bit of fun, but they are purely situational. If you have enough time to set up, then you'll cut targets down with zero effort, but it's rare to have more than a moment's rest amidst the chaos of Battlefield.

It wasn't exactly a "hit the ground running" situation but DICE found their footing... eventually.

When Battlefield V first launched, it only came with a paltry eight maps, nine if you count Panzerstorm being released in the first update. That being said, the roster has grown beautifully over the years, despite DICE’s late start in producing new levels to play on. As such, we’ve listed our top ten maps that give the most rewarding and intense gameplay.

10. Panzerstorm

The first post-release map for Battlefield V, Panzerstorm, was released during the first Tides of War chapter, “Overture,” back on December 5th, 2018. Set in the vast, open countryside of Belgium, Panzerstorm is a perfect map for vehicles and long-range fighting.

What Is Awesome About Panzerstorm

The sparse farmland gives tanks plenty of space while planes have clear skies to fight it out.
Gameplay is centered around the farming facilities dotted around the map, providing intense infantry combat.
Deep ditches scattered across the map offer routes to flags, out of sight from snipers and tanks lying in wait.

9. Rotterdam

One of the original eight maps launched with Battlefield V, Rotterdam takes place during the German invasion of the Dutch city during the Battle of the Netherlands. The map features a canal that runs through the middle, which players can hop across using the anchored boats for quick access.

What Is Awesome About Rotterdam

Intense urban combat that spills out into the streets and room-to-room fighting.
The canal draws a clear separation between sides and offers excellent gameplay when fighting over the bridge.
A lot of flanking routes and verticality give players multiple ways to engage enemies.
Tankers can expect a lot of targets in narrow alleyways but also have to be wary of hidden ambushes in buildings.

8. Narvik

The first map people got their hands-on, Narvik, was the only playable map during Battlefield V’s open-beta back in September of 2018. It is set in a coastal mining town in Norway, under invasion from the Germans in their desperate bid for iron.

What Is Awesome About Narvik

Offers a decent enough mix of everything for all types of players, pilots/tankers included.
The broken railway gives infantry a critical strategic point to fight over, which, when captured, gives a devastating vantage point over most of the map.
The mountainous terrain gives snipers and machine gunners ample sightlines to pick off targets and support pushes.
The central town gives way to heavy CQC fighting while tanks level buildings and cut down anyone still in the streets.

7. Devastation

Another of the originals, Devastation, takes place right after Rotterdam – the bright and peaceful architecture replaced by burnt out buildings, wrecked vehicles, and rubble. It is meant to depict the Dutch city of Rotterdam after the bombing by the Germans in May of 1940.

What Is Awesome About Devastation

The burnt-out church in the center is the star of the map; infantry players struggle endlessly in this meat grinder while the upper floors and windows offer vantage points against counter-attacks.
The surrounding city is full of makeshift fire positions and fortifiable strongholds that players can engage with some relative distance and safety.
There are countless hidden alleyways, lanes, and crossroads in between flags that give players a plethora of options for getting around the map and flanking vehicles.

6. Provence

Added during the fourth Tides of War chapter, Defying the Odds, Provence was originally going to be a launch-map for the ill-fated 5v5 competitive game mode similar to Battlefield 1’s ‘Incursions”. Back then, it was only available for smaller game modes like Squad Conquest, but now after the Summer Update on June 4th, the map is available for Conquest.

What Is Awesome About Provence

Probably the most beautiful map in the entire game, the map features rolling fields of lavender situated next to a compact French town.
The town offers pure, uncut street fighting between alleys, apartments, narrow streets, and courtyards.
There is a ton of cover to hide behind as well a whole network of flanking routes to exploit.
The outskirts give players much more room to breathe and vehicles a chance to offer decent fire support on enemies taking cover inside buildings.

5. Wake Island

Making its sixth return to the franchise, Wake Island is yet another remastering of the fan-favorite. Originally a part of the “War in the Pacific” update, it takes place on the island of the same name and has remained relatively unchanged except for a slight size increase.

What Is Awesome About Wake Island

For veterans, it’ll be a hit of nostalgia, and for newer players, it’s an insight into what used to make Battlefield so great.
The open island gives way for tanks and planes to cut down targets but also gives infantry good cover /concealment options to spring ambushes.
Despite this, there are many rock formations and scattered buildings for infantry to hide behind.
Fortifications work well on the island for repairing bridges and setting up de-facto chokepoints for incoming attacks.

4. Arras

A fan-favorite among the stock selection of maps, Arras offers some of the best infantry combat available in-game, perhaps in the franchise. Taking place in a quaint French countryside town, players find themselves fighting from room to room while vehicles fight over the lush yellow flower fields on the outskirts.

What Is Awesome About Arras.

Mostly focused on CQC infantry combat, most of the buildings are explorable and gives you lots of opportunities to hide.
Fighting over
Fortifications shine as players can build some of the most comprehensive mini-fortresses in the streets to fend off attackers.
Taking a position on the outskirts gives players who prefer to fight at range a deadly vantage point over the flower fields.
The ‘E’ flag in the Village is where all the chaos is unleashed as players grind endlessly against each other for control.

3. Operation Underground

If you’re a veteran, then you’ll know this map better as Operation Metro, which makes its third appearance in the franchise with Battlefield V. Just like its predecessors, in a town subway and the surrounding area. With a mix of outdoor and high-intensity CQC, Operation Underground is perfect for players who don’t like vehicle-heavy maps.

What Is Awesome About Operation Underground

The subterranean fighting is chaotic, intense, and never lets up.
Long subway tunnels give way to open platforms – funneling players into tight chokepoints for easy-pickings.
The subway is full of hidey-holes, crawl spaces, and discreet hallways for flanking behind enemies digging-in up on the center flag.
You can submerge part of the metro, flooding old fighting positions and making them only accessible through swimming.

2. Iwo Jima

Definitely one of the best maps available in Battlefield V, it first arrived as a part of the ”War in the Pacific” chapter in October of 2019. Primarily designed for the Breakthrough game mode, the map is set on the titular island during Japan’s desperate defense at the end of the war.

What Is Awesome About Iwo Jima

While having just as much playable space as the map Hamada, it doesn’t feel anywhere as empty and provides a decent amount of cover for movement.
It highlights the famous Battlefield combined-arms gameplay with infantry, tanks, planes, and even boats joining in on the fray.
Tons of bunkers, trenches, caves, and fixed gun emplacements are interconnected by a tunnel system that sprawls across the entire map for quick and discreet movement.
The black-sand beach is littered with wrecked landing craft and tank defenses that you can use as you push up.
There’s a decent mix of verticality that scales the further you are up the volcano.

1. Twisted Steel

Our personal choice for the best of the original maps available at launch, Twisted Steel, is the pinnacle of what Battlefield V has to offer in terms of map design. There are chokepoints, thick swamps, and a destroyed bridge that gives all players perfect scenarios for their preferred playstyles

What Is Awesome About Twisted Steel

All combat is centered around maintaining the two bridges that go across the center river, both providing excellent gameplay.
The destroyed bridge lets players provide fire support for attackers from both sides, and gives good verticality for shooting over cover.
The standing bridge lets players have sight over the entire map and is perfect for snipers and machine gunners.
However, that same bridge is another meat grinder, players and tanks will be continuously fed into the chaotic storm of bullets and explosions.

Today, Battlefield has a total of twenty different multiplayer maps, not including Halvøy - the map for the ill-fated Firestorm game mode. At the end of the day, it really comes down to preference and how playstyles mesh with the environment. At any rate, the ones listed have the biggest potential for racking up a ton of kills.

Despite being one of the most high-profile triple-A titles across multiple generations, EA's Battlefield franchise is still plagued by a myriad of bugs and fatal crashes, especially around the launch. The start of each cycle is notorious for the loud and feverish backlash against the new titles expected performance hiccups. On top of that, crashes can happen for any number of reasons that may require tedious troubleshooting, so instead, we've listed the top ten methods to try if you keep experiencing crashes.

Try these Top 10 Fixes:

10. Turn off your rig, then turn it back on.

How to turn off a Windows computer.

It's hard not to roll your eyes when someone suggests this, but it's been a tried and true method since computers were first introduced, and always to the surprise of the skeptical. Granted, this is a simple "fix," and it may be very likely that your issue is a bit more complicated; that being said, this is still an excellent place to start.

How to fix

Hold down the power button OR
Open the Start Menu.
Select 'Power.'
Then select 'Shut Down.'

9. Update Your Drivers

All GPUs run drivers to communicate between themselves, your rig, and software, and just like any other software, drivers are updated continuously to keep up with the latest developments and titles. A simple download could be all that stands between you and being able to play.

How to fix

Open the Start Menu.
Open' Device Manager.'
Find your GPU in the list of devices.
Right-click on it, then select 'Update Drivers.'
Select 'Search automatically for updated driver software.'

* GPU's like Nvidia often have convenient software suites that, among other things, automatically update drivers in real-time. If you don't have it already installed from when you first set-up your rig, try searching for your manufacturer's software online.

8. Disable the Origin in-game overlay

No one likes being forced to use yet another a third-party launcher just to play one or two games. Steam certainly wasn't well-received upon its launch, but Valve still managed to mold it into the standard that we hold all other launchers too. Origin, however, unlike Steam, may well be the cause of its games-own crashes due to the diverted resources to run it.

How to fix

Open Origin.
Go to your Game Library.
Right-click on Battlefield V and select 'Game Properties'.
Under 'General' uncheck the box next to 'Enable Origin in-game for Battlefield V.'

7. Run as administrator

Sometimes specific programs don't have the required permissions to run even though you as the PC user may have admin privileges. By running programs as an administrator, you remove any and all restrictions on access your system may have placed.

How to fix

Find Origin and right-click on it.
Select 'Properties'.
Select 'Advanced'.
Check 'Run as an administrator.'
Repeat for Battlefield V.

6. Disable DX12

DirectX 12 (DX12) allows developers to fine-tune visuals, even more, adding touches like ray tracing to create high-realism, high-fidelity graphics. However, like most software, this isn't comprehensive technology, and new releases can be incredibly unstable. Disabling it will return the setting to a more stable DX11.

Open the Options Menu.
Select 'Video'.
Under 'Advanced,' find 'DX12 Enabled' and set it to 'Off.'

5. Repair Battlefield V in Origin

One of the few positives of Origin, Repairing Games, checks your installation for any missing or corrupted files; any found are automatically replaced. This should be one of your go-to solutions early on, as it could be a matter of just a file or two.

How to fix

Open Origin.
Open your Game Library and right-click on Battlefield V.
Select 'Repair'.

4. Run MSConfig

How it works

MSConfig is used primarily to dig out problems during start-up between running software. This could range from background services, third-party apps, etc. conflicting, which could interfere with other programs or even Windows from starting at all. Using this will determine if there is any software running that interferes with Battlefield V.

How to fix

Open' System Configuration'.
Under 'Services', check 'Hide all Microsoft services' then select 'Disable all'.
Under 'Start-up' select 'Open Task Manager.'
Disable all programs.

3. Allow it through your firewall

How it works

Firewalls are great for keeping unknown and potentially dangerous software from running amok on your system, but sometimes benign applications get caught in the crossfire much to our annoyance. Thankfully just allowing a select few pass doesn't require tearing everything down, exposing you to threats.

How to fix

Open Windows Defender Firewall.
Select 'Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall'.
Find Battlefield V and make sure both the 'Private' and 'Public' boxes are checked.

2. Make sure you have the proper Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable installed

These redistributables are common blocks of code that are universal enough to just be shared with developers to cut down on complexity and time. There are multiple versions, and it is critical to have the right one sourced so your games will have the proper files to draw from.

How to fix

Right-click on Battlefield V and select 'Open file location'.
Right-click on Battlefield V and select 'Properties'.
Under 'Compatibility', make sure the program is running with administrative properties if you haven't done so already.
Right-click and select 'File location' again.
Select the '_installer' folder, then the 'vc' folder, then 'vc2015'.
In the 'redist' folder, select the correct program version for your computer.

1. Reinstall Battlefield V

While probably not a favorite method due to its time-consuming nature, erasing everything and starting fresh has a simple elegance to it. Sometimes your files are so irreversibly corrupted that there is no other option.

The writing's always been on the wall.

It's been almost two years since Battlefield V's launch, and the road to get here has been, in a word, rough. It's evident to all that DICE's latest entry did not perform as everyone had hoped, whether it be because of the early lack of content, egregious monetization, or poor prioritization of features. While the game did have a sizable following at launch, it quickly fell apart once the player's realized just how under-baked Battlefield V was. Here we've listed the latest information we could find about player count and how active the community is.

10. As of February 2019, Battlefield V sold 7.3 million copies.

Now most developers would be absolutely thrilled to know their game sold a million copies, let alone seven. But despite the impressive numbers, publishing giant Electronic Arts was more than dissatisfied. During an earnings call, EA lamented that their sales were just one million copies short of their projections. However, the community already held suspicions due to EA's reluctance to gloat about their sales numbers, a common tactic of theirs that was noticeably missed.

9. The Battlefield V subreddit has 207,590 active members

This is almost twice as much as Battlefield 4's, but the sentiments tell a much different story. If you go on the BFV subreddit, you will encounter post, after post, after post by a frustrated and frankly defeated community. It's kind of sad, to be honest; there's an air of disappointment and longing underneath all the memes. This isn't to say that's all there is. You've definitely still got your regular discussions, guides, pleas to DICE, and the like, but it's hard not to notice the dour mood.

8. The BF5 forums have over 27,000 discussions

There's still quite a bit of activity on these forums, but the general mood is more or less the same as on Reddit. Doom-and-gloom, judging from the posts, is quite evident. DICE seems more active/responsive on their boards, with polls, giveaways, contests, plus ample opportunity for players to provide direct feedback – but it still can't hide the overall displeasure.

7. There's still enough people to quickly get into a game… for now.

But this really only applies to the more popular game modes like Breakthrough, Conquest, Domination, and Team Deathmatch. It's the ones like Outpost, Airborne, and sometimes Rush that you might have to wait a while for a server to fill up. You can alleviate this by hopping to other server regions, but it's a steep price to ask players to sacrifice ping just to play their favorite game modes.

6. Battlefield V has a lackluster community/private server program.

One of the most universal complaints about Battlefield V was the complete absence of rentable, customizable private servers. This was seen as a huge step backward for the franchise that was built on the tightknit player-to-player community. The idea of letting players create their own game modes and rules with their friends seems like a no-brainer, but obviously, EA had other priorities. The silver lining, if you can call it that, is that DICE did eventually add custom servers in December of 2019. But this was too little, too late – the dwindling player numbers plus the absolute barebones customization afforded left many a bad taste in the community's mouth.

5. The official Battlefield Discord has over 13,000 members.

Since there is no official server just for Battlefield V only, it can be difficult to pinpoint just how many are regularly online. However, there are quite a bit of "homegrown" servers belonging to a plethora of clans and people just looking to link-up. You'd be surprised just how many there are for each language ranging from Spanish all the way to Turkish. It's nice to see that the global community hasn't totally given up… yet.

4. There's a small e-sports scene, but it needs a lot of work.

Surprisingly enough, there is quite an extensive 'underground' competitive scene, even though DICE scrapped the official 5v5 game mode similar to Battlefield 1's 'Incursions' in August of 2019. According to competitive player Ollyyh,

"[The scene] Needs exposure and less cheaters with [mouse and keyboard (on console)]. There needs to be less leagues, and what I mean by that is there are so many small leagues where what we need is a few big leagues like ESB and CGL. This is also because each league has its own ruleset, which is frustrating as a player. Exposure could be done by Dice or EA promoting it and supporting leagues, promoting competitive live streams. More players are needed, but there is a big skill gap between pub players and comp players, and such a divide between them plus many players who may be good enough are put off by the toxicity in the community. Competitive could have got bigger since BF1 but no custom servers on day one of release set it back, and the overall performance of the game means more players are leaving the game than joining..."

3. Battlefield V is quite a popular topic on YouTube…

But not really in the way DICE or EA would want. If you look up the reveal trailer, it has an overwhelming 549,000 dislikes to 352,000 likes compared to Battlefield 1's 2.3 million likes to 45,000 dislikes. If you look up 'battlefield 5' in YouTube's search, the results speak for themselves. For every montage and weapon guide, there three others with questioning the game's longevity or if it even had any, to begin with – a category of videos that dissect 'dead' games are also quite common.

2. There's quite a bit of developer engagement, in more ways than one.

Although bittersweet, the final 7.0 Update revealed that there was still some semblance of support for the game but also that the potential Battlefield V had was ultimately squandered. The DICE community team, for the most part, has maintained a decent level of communication lately, but it wasn't always that way. As said earlier, they do frequent the official forums and Reddit, but as more developers switch to future projects or outright leave the closer we get to complete radio silence.

If you look on Glassdoor, a site for employees to leave anonymous reviews of companies they've worked at, you'll find an interesting trend: most reviews before are lukewarm to very positive. However, reviews from December 2018 to September 2019 (coincidently the period directly after launch) are almost all negative - with many citing excessive crunch, cronyism, and nepotism among management.

1. We'll never know all official player counts.

Ever since launch, DICE and EA have been very stingy with their player counts, especially on PC, an early red flag for the community. For companies that usually aren't shy about flaunting their success, EA and DICE were suspiciously quiet. Add the fact that you can get accurate player counts all the way back to Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Even Battlefield: Hardline had its numbers released. But now that Battlefield is back on Steam as of June, we'll at least have some idea of how much the numbers dwindle.
