In Battlefield 2042, speed is everything. Every split-second is crucial and can be the difference between life and death. Have you ever wondered if there's something you could do to give you an edge on the battlefield? If so, keep reading and by the end of this article, I guarantee you will be a better player.

25. Controller Hints

Start at :32 seconds

Controller hints are intended for first-time players. After an hour of gameplay, they are completely useless. The only thing they will do is distract you from your target. You need to be focused at all times if you want to win any games.

Reactive hints pop up on your screen at times like ‘reload’. By the time you have read it, you should have already reloaded. Every fraction of a second you delay gives your opponent the advantage.

24. Field of View

Start at 1:36

The field of view can make a huge difference in your gameplay immediately. When you increase your field of view, you can see more of the battlefield at once. This can be crucial as you are less likely to get blindsided by an enemy.

The ADS field of view kicks in when you are looking down the sights of your weapon. Leaving this on will help you control recoil. The more accurate you can be, the better chance you have of survival.

23. Neutral Icon Opacity

Neutral icons are objectives that have not been captured by either the enemy or friendly teams. Capturing these points is an important part of every standard gamemode in Battlefield 2042. Leaving the neutral icon opacity visible will allow you to find these points.

The neutral icon opacity (zoomed) is different. This will only show if you are actually aiming down sights. You want as few distractions as possible when fighting the enemy.

22. Brightness

The default brightness in Battlefield 2042 is 50. With the default brightness, it can be difficult to spot enemies in darker areas. In order to have the best chance of seeing your enemy before he sees you, I recommend bumping it up to around 60. The opposing team will have no chance of ambushing you from the shadows.

Remember at the beginning of the article when I said "speed is everything"? Well, this setting will make you go faster. Instead of having to click the sprint button twice to enter a full sprint, you will now only need to click it once. Boosting your acceleration is a must if you want to be the quickest on the battlefield.

20. Objective Icon Opacity

Objective icons show points on the map that your team has already captured. Considering your team already controls these points, it is best to reduce screen clutter and have more visibility.

If you are aiming down sights, you are likely in a firefight. There is no need to have the objective icons distract you from taking down your opponent

19. Enemy Icon Opacity

Enemy icons are going to be the exact opposite as all of the other ones. This setting is focused on making the opponent more visible, resulting in easier kills. You want to max the icon opacity this time instead of making them less visible.

18. Crosshair Color

If you have played Battlefield 2042 long enough, you know that sometimes your crosshairs are nearly invisible. Changing the color of them can drastically improve visibility and help you put more shots on target. I recommend a light color that won't distract you very much but can still be seen. There is no set color that is best for everybody, but start with light pink and see what works best for you.

17. HUD Motion

HUD motion makes your HUD display bounce around unnecessarily. I don’t see any reason why you need extra movement on the screen. That won't help you whatsoever. Turning this off will give you a more smooth gameplay experience, making you more focused on the task at hand.

16. Soldier Aim Sensitivity

Soldier aim sensitivity is how fast your crosshairs move when aiming a weapon. The faster you can aim your weapon at an enemy, the better. The best option for you will depend on your skill level. I recommend slowly building up to the fastest speed you feel comfortable with.

15. Aiming left/right Acceleration

Start at 8:50

Aiming left/right acceleration determines how quickly your crosshair goes from left to right when aiming. If you have this setting set high, your aiming will be jumpy and you will likely miss your target. The lower you go, the more smoothly the crosshairs move. I know many people like it at 0 or 25. Definitely turn it down though.

14. Controller Deadzone

Controller deadzone changes how sensitive your sticks are to movement. The lower you put these, the less you need to push them in order to get a response. The left stick (for player movement) should be as low as it can go because your character will move as quickly as possible. The right stick (for gun movement) should be as low as it can go without getting stick drift.

13. Uniform Soldier Aiming

The default uniform soldier aiming setting in Battlefield 2042 is off. This means that, depending on which scope you have equipped, your aiming down sight speed will be different. In order to build consistency across all weapons and scopes, I recommend changing this to on. This will make all of your weapons zoom at the same speed, helping with muscle memory.

12. Minimap Size

Visibility is a common theme in this article and one of the most important aspects of the game. The minimap shows an enemy every time they fire a weapon, revealing their location. If you increase the minimap size, you will spot enemies at a further distance. The more aware you are of your surroundings, the better chance you have of survival.

11. Crosshair Projection

If you are prone to getting motion sickness, you can skip this one. Leaving crosshair projection on means the crosshair will move around the screen according to your movements. If you turn it off, the crosshair will always be in the center of the screen, making aiming much easier and much more consistent. Removing as many variables as possible will help give you that edge you need.

Battlefield 2042 is an extremely cinematic experience. However pleasing visually, it does not maximize performance. If you want to have an advantage over your enemies, turn off these cinematic settings and elevate your gameplay.

9. Revive Interaction

Make sure you have the revive interaction and the request/skip revive interaction both set to toggle. Doing this will not only reduce the likelihood of a misclick while performing a revive, but also make the overall interaction easier. If you have ever accidentally stopped a revive midway through, this will be a gamechanger.

8. Kill Log

The kill log will display any kills in the game on the bottom left of your screen depending on what setting you have. Some people prefer seeing every kill in the game, and others prefer seeing none. I recommend choosing “Squad and Nearby” to improve your efficiency and intake only necessary information.

7. Soldier Aim Assist

Aim Assist will slow down your aim when the reticle is over an enemy target and help land shots on target. You always want to leave this on as high as it goes. The opposite is true for the zoom snap. Have you ever had your reticle lock onto a target you weren't even aiming at? Yea, me too. It's frustrating and easily fixable.

6. Vehicle Field of View

Vehicles are always the main target for enemies to fire at. You constantly have rockets, grenades, and even infantry sneaking up with C5 explosives. In order to have the best chance of survival, make sure your field of view is as high as it can go. Keeping your vehicles in action will greatly enhance your team's chances of success.

Controller vibration is another one of those settings focused on the cinematic experience. All it really does is make your controller die quicker and throw off your aim. If you have ever been firing at an enemy near an explosion, you will know how extremely aggravating camera shake can be. It can really be the difference between life and death in a firefight. When you turn the camera shake as low as it can go, you will barely be affected by nearby explosions and be much more accurate with your weapon.

1. SWS-10

Starting off this list is the very well-rounded SWS-10. This sniper is a great choice for anybody for a few reasons. It is unlocked right from level one, so you can begin using it immediately. It also has the fastest fire rate and largest magazine size of all the sniper rifles in Battlefield 2042. This gives you slightly more room for error than the other snipers because you can get more shots off in a shorter period of time.

This brings unrivaled versatility that will make you the MVP of your squad. Picture firing on a building with an assault rifle and then being able to close the distance and breach it with a shotgun. This dual function can only be done with the Masterkey.

Starting off this list will be the AM40. Intended for mainly close-quarter combat, I call this weapon the “room sweeper.” Although it does lack firepower, the fast rate of fire and excellent handling make up for it. After getting 360 kills with the AM40, you can attach a standard issue drum magazine to it. Having so many bullets in such an easy to control weapon is deadly. The Am40 is absolutely perfect for rushing an objective.

After getting 330 kills with this weapon, you unlock the high-power drum magazine! That's right, high-power drum magazine. With 40 bullets and an insane amount of fire power, once you tame the recoil, it's a wrap.

Aside from the novel-esque narrative, Crusader Kings III continues the popular series featuring the widely acclaimed marriage of immersive grand strategy and deep, dramatic medieval roleplaying. Each character is larger than life, with traits and lifestyle choices that determine their actions and schemes. Even if you don’t like strategy games, but appreciate deep, medieval drama, this is definitely one to check out.

Don’t stress, because this game is a lot of fun once you look past all the bugs it had at launch. With the 128 player mode, the game holds up with cool maps, great design, balanced pacing, and an all around good time with friends and strangers. Let’s just hope the dire circumstances stay in-game and are not some Simpsons-esque prediction of our future.

This game is not afraid to put you through the stresses that soldiers often face when it comes to resource management and choosing whether or not to intervene in some harrowing scenarios involving assault and the like. In true, Ubisoft style, there’s an endless laundry list of things to do in Yara; but hey, if you’re committed to the cause, it probably won’t bother you that much. There’s a cool variety of travel modes including car, horseback, speedboats and helicopters that allow you to get around with ease and give you that true essence of war when unruly encounters inevitably come your way.

Manning war planes, tanks, and battleships should not be this fun… but it is! War Thunder is the largest free-to-play, online game featuring military vehicles from the early 20th century until present time.

Aviation, ground vehicles, and naval forces fight together in one game and even in a single battle, and yes, they are pretty authentic and accurate to the real wars fought back in the day. Seriously, war shouldn’t be this fun, but at least we can appreciate WWII from the comfort of our living rooms rather than having to go through it all over again.

5. Enlisted (Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS5)

A great example of familiar and fresh balanced out to near perfection. Enlisted is an MMO squad based shooter set in World War II (I know it's redundant at this point, but who are we kidding, WWII really doesn’t get old) where you act as an infantry squad leader, tank crew, or an aircraft pilot.

You gotta hand it to the developers, the weaponry, soldier’s uniform, appearance and capabilities of the vehicles in the game are in line with historical facts! This game takes everything that works well in the COD and Battlefield IP’s and combines it with the realism that you see in War Thunder and World of Tanks. Certainly one of the best war simulators out there amidst the golden age of war games.

4. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (Xbox One, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS5)

While more of a tactical shooter, Rainbow Six Siege brings in some cool looting mechanics to its game design and is still worth checking out even 6 years later. This is a high-precision, tactical shooter that prioritizes careful planning and teamwork.

With the massive expansion this game has received over the years, drilling through enemies in Siege has never been better. This is a stand-out experience where you are rewarded for using tactical gadgets and working together. While gunplay is still prominent, this will definitely put your wits to the test. Grab your friends and hop to it.

3. Hell Let Loose (Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS5)

I think it's safe to assume: World War II never gets old. Hell Let Loose is a multiplayer, tactical FPS where players fight in iconic battles of the Western and Eastern Fronts of WWII at the platoon level.

What an undertaking for an indie game, and it deserves all the praise it can get. The battlegrounds are super authentic as you ship off to the shores of the greatest battles ever fought. With combat so realistic, this is probably the closest veterans will ever get to war reenactments, and with COVID-19 still an effect, better on a screen than in the park.

2. Ghost of Tsushima (PS4, PS5)

An open world game that captures the majesty of feudal Japan? Them samurai really know how to do war with style. You play as Jin Sakai, a samurai on a quest to protect his island from the infamous Mongol invasion.

Finally a game that puts you in the shoes, not only of a badass samurai, but does it Kurosawan style. If you’re a cinefile and a lover of history, it would be a crime if you didn’t play Ghost of Tsushima. There is a rich variety to the colours of autumn leaves blowing in the wind that add to the gorgeous presentation, and the world itself is engaging and deep seated with culture and classic Japanese architecture. It’ll be quite some time before an open world game can top this.

What’s that? This game is free?! That’s right, jump into Call of Duty: Warzone, a massive Battle Royale mode and Plunder where up to 150 players battle for loot, armour, and other rewards to shoot your way to the top.

There’s been a lot of changes since its initial release and yes, it’s still worth a drop in. Though this is another controversial game in terms of weapon bundles, at least you're getting upgrades from Modern Warfare and Cold War into these maps. With such a hefty variety, players are bound to be unique with their tactics. Gameplay is still that classic MW gameplay that players love and the game itself seems to be hacker proof. If you love looter shooters, this is as fun as it gets.

To the brand new rookie, Battlefield 2042 can be a bit of a haywire experience.

With no idea where to go or what to do and 64 different people shooting at you at the same time, it can get a little irritating. But not to worry! Battlefield 2042 has tips and techniques written with the sole purpose of giving new players an idea of what the heck is going on and what they should probably try doing.

Battlefield has five primary suggestions for the new and untested.

Know your role on the battlefield.
Understand the specialists’ roles and abilities.
Not be the clown who thinks breakthrough is the same as conquest.
Understand the XP reward system.
Figure out how to customize your player character and card so that you look better than you actually are… intimidation factor and all that.

A quick summary explanation of these 5 points may help to guide you through your first few days on the battlefield.

Firstly, your role on the battlefield will be determined in part by the class of specialists you pick.

You might pick Assault, Recon, Support, or Engineer. Assault characters are best used for aggressive pushes and flanks, while recon is great for spotting enemies, and support characters help to keep the fight going by resupplying and healing teammates. Engineers are great for building defenses and playing defensive positions.

Each specialist has unique abilities that make them highly effective for specific playstyles. For instance, Sundance’s wingsuit ability makes it possible to pull off insane flanks by rapidly repositioning and dropping spawn beacons for the rest of your squad.

Thirdly, in Conquest, players must capture and hold neutral objectives, while in Breakthrough and offensive team must push the defensive team out of objectives, capturing sectors as they go and pushing the defensive team back, or, alternatively, being obliterated by well dug-in defensive forces that cling to their positions like limpets to a rock.

XP is awarded for actions completed in battle, including combat actions such as kills, support actions such as revives, recon, defense, etc.

Customizing player cards and characters can be done through the ‘Collection’ tab in the main menu and following the labeled tabs to different categories such as player cards, weapons, and specialists, and equipping new badges and skins as they are unlocked.

Although Battlefield 2042 may initially be a bit confusing, once these 5 aspects of the game are understood and mastered the game makes much more sense and can be played more objectively and effectively.

Battlefield has taken the time to answer a number of the Battlefield 2042 community’s most pressing questions about the game and its future.

On 7 December 2021 at 1:07 PM CET, Battlefield retweeted a thread by ‘Battlefield Direct Communication’ containing 10 questions and answers about the game.

The questions and answers as stated in the official thread by ‘Battlefield Direct Communication’ are as follows:

1. Question: “Can you earn XP in Battlefield Portal?”

Answer: “All of our featured modes work the same as CQ and BT in All-Out Warfare, earning XP at the full rates, unlocking new weapons, ribbons, and attachments, and progression for your Mastery. Custom Experiences work differently.”

2. Question: “What is a featured mode?”

Answer: “This is what you see when you first enter #Battlefield Portal, and are a mix of officially authored experiences (such as Rush), and highlighted Community Created experiences that we’re providing full matchmaking for (such as Snipers & Knives by Stodeh)”

3. Question: “How about XP in Custom Experiences?”

Answer: “XP can be earned on Community Created experiences. With this, you will level up, unlock new gadgets, vehicles, and weapons. We re-enabled this following careful and close study and have proper safeguards to keep things fair and fun for all.”

4. Question: “Do I earn less XP playing Custom?”

Answer: “XP is capped per minute, with that cap resetting once per minute. If you trigger the cap, it doesn't impede you from earning XP after that trigger. Modes designed to be played normally largely reward the same XP overall as you would get in CQ or BT.”

5. Question: “Why do you cap XP in Custom Experiences?”

Answer: “We want Battlefield Portal to encourage players to build creative experiences that are fun to play. Without caps in place, farming servers end up saturating the Server Browser with valueless experiences, and we want to discourage that.”

6. Question: “Do I still receive ribbons and End of Round performance in Custom Experiences?”

Answer: “Ribbons are not presently available in Custom. Match Completion and Victory Bonuses are awarded at the same values as other modes and make up for the largest percentage of XP earned across the game”

7. Question: “Can I earn progress towards Mastery in Custom?”

Answer: “Not presently. Mastery rewards are designed to be showcases for the committed, and until we’ve determined if we’re able to establish further safeguards, we won’t change that. Mastery is earnable in official Portal experiences.”

8. Question: “Are Weapon Attachments considered part of Mastery?”

Answer: “They are. Presently these will only unlock in All-Out Warfare, Hazard Zone, and official Portal experiences.”

9. Question: “Do you adjust the XP caps?”

Answer: “We do. This past week we raised the caps, and as more diverse custom experiences start to fill the server browser, we’ll monitor and make favorable adjustments where we can.”

10. Question: “Why are you against farming servers?”

Answer: “It’s not fun, and farming servers prevent established communities from hosting fun events, and folks from running experiences that better reflect the experiences they want to have. They’re dull and exploitative, and we don’t want them.”

This answers some of the community’s most pressing questions just in time as Battlefield 2042 prepares for the release of Update 3.1.

Battlefield 2042 Releases Its Biggest Patch Yet - Will It Save the Game?

The release of Battlefield 2042 was met with a great deal of anticipation and excitement. However, the initial hype was quickly soured by tremendous disappointment in the game’s obvious lack of optimization and a multitude of bugs.

Battlefield has responded with the release of its biggest update yet in an attempt to fix as many of the bugs as possible and appease the angry masses.

On 1 December, Battlefield Direct Communication posted a tweet announcing the release of “(their) biggest update yet, with plenty of fixes, improvements and QoL enhancements.” The update went live at 8:00 am today, 2 December 2021.

The patch notes for the update were released on 1 December and were announced at 4:14 pm UTC in the same tweet announcing the update. The update was between 5 and 6 Gb, depending on the platform being used, with the Origin update being just over 6Gb.

The patch notes detail hundreds of individual fixes, however, the following are some of the major changes and improvements that were made.

Firstly, DICE has added weekly missions to Battlefield 2042 that players will be able to complete for XP and in-game cosmetics.

Secondly, they have made a variety of adjustments to make transitions between menus smoother, and to make menus and the overall user interface more user-friendly. These include making it easier to customize and edit weapons and loadouts, as well as making in-game icons scalable according to distance.

Furthermore, a variety of fixes and adjustments have been made to make the gameplay feel smoother and to allow the game to perform better and in a more optimized manner.

This fix comes as a much-needed lifeline for the game, which has reportedly lost over 50% of its original player base due to a large number of bugs and issues. A detailed breakdown of all the bug fixes and new features is available in the official patch notes.

Battlefield 2042 Releases Launch Update and Roadmap Briefing

Battlefield 2042 has released a news post detailing its launch update and explaining its plans for the future.

On 23 November 2021 at 11:03 PM CET Battlefield tweeted an announcement linking to an official Battlefield 2042 news post titled “BATTLEFIELD BRIEFING - LAUNCH UPDATE & THE ROAD AHEAD”.

The briefing kicks off with a massive thank you to all Battlefield no-pats for the millions of current players, with the number of players reportedly being almost double the number for the previous Battlefield release.

A major point addressed in the briefing is the issue surrounding “legacy features.” Many players want to see the return of features such as the End-of-match Scoreboard, Server Browser, and Voice Chat. Battlefield has stated, “We’ll come back to you when we have things that we can show to you, including details about our long-term vision for certain features and functions.”

The next update is scheduled to go live Thursday, November 25, followed by the third update in December.
