In this hilariously wacky game, you take control of Stubbs the Zombie as he brings destruction in the city of Punchbowl in a futuristic take of the 50s and 60s era.

If you love a game that doesn’t take itself way too seriously then we highly suggest this hilarious game that makes fun of classic B-movies. It’s one of the few games on the list where you actually get to play as a zombie rather than a human survivor; this concept alone already makes the game unique but it gets even better as you play the game and make use of Stubbs’ absurd abilities. It has every single staple of the genre and even the game that it's based on, the creepy and moody locations, sinister corporation, stomach-churning zombies, and of course, terribly bad writing and voice acting. However while it may appear to be just another rip-off, it's actually a game with a lot of potential and very good scares. While it can be a little bit rough around the edges, it is still a fun throwback that you should experience.

Originally a Wii U exclusive, in Zombi you assume the role of a human survivor of a zombie apocalypse in London, tasked with completing a range of missions given by an unseen voice.

What set itself apart from other zombie games at the time were its realistic survival mechanics in which getting bitten turns you into one of the undead and forces you to play as a different character, a mechanic that we saw a year later in the game State of Decay.

Explore the city streets and take advantage of the darkness to sneak past the shambling undead, but if you’ve been spotted, prepare for an extremely suspenseful encounter as you melee your way out of the terrifying situation. There was simply no game like it and it's a shame that it was already doomed to fail even before it was released.

22. Dead Island (Pc, Ps3, Ps4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Linux)

What makes for a memorable vacation? The beautiful beach? Lovely scenery? …Zombies?? Well in Dead Island you get all three and more. Explore a gorgeous island full of flesh-eating undead as one of the four immune survivors.

There’s a lot to do in this underrated zombie game, from slashing and shooting zombies into satisfying pieces, to exploring its vast world that offers a lot of beautiful scenery whether you’re in a dark sewer or a rundown building, you’ll always be impressed with what the game has to show you. What's more is that you can do all of these things with a co-op buddy, making for an addictingly fun game.

While it may not be as emotionally draining as its cinematic trailer suggested, it is still a fun survival game that you shouldn't skip.

“When there is no more room in hell, the dead will walk the earth”, simply hearing those words aloud is already enough to send shivers down your spine but what if you experience it as well? Well in No More Room in Hell not only will it make you shudder in horror but it will also make you jump out of your seat.

Play as one of the eight survivors of a zombie apocalypse in this multiplayer horror game that puts emphasis on realism, inspired by Romero’s Dead series. While it can be a bit challenging as a new player since you could easily be overwhelmed by both its unique mechanics and the mob of undead, it all comes together in a highly rewarding and satisfying way, once you’ve finally managed to master its survival mechanics. Make use of the many arsenals of weapons and blast the zombies with it and detach each of their body parts in such gory fashion, thanks to the RE engine’s life-like visuals.

And just when you thought the franchise couldn’t get any more terrifying, well then buckle up, as this amazing game will have you on the edge of your seat.

5. State of Decay (Pc, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

In this open-world strategic role-playing game, you are put into the shoes of a procedurally generated survivor trying to lead a small community in the middle of a post-apocalyptic world.

What makes State of Decay so special is the sense of freedom and realism that it provides to its players. Trumbull Valley, the game’s setting, is a big playground full of supplies, survivors, and of course flesh-eating zombies just waiting for you, and all of it could permanently disappear in a blink of an eye depending on the decisions that you make as a leader. The game basically lets you tell your own survival story in its infested land. Add in a complex management system and you’ve got a game that could hook you in for hundreds of hours.

The Year One Survival Edition also includes its two amazing DLCs, Breakdown and Lifeline, with each offering a different survival experience but the same zombie mayhem.

4. State of Decay 2 (Pc, Xbox One)

Set after a few months after the events of the first State of Decay, you must once again assume the role of a procedurally generated survivor in a land taken over by the undead. Build a community, scavenge supplies and survive its unforgiving world.

This incredible sequel brings more than just a brand new giant map to explore but also new mechanics that make it significantly superior. A co-op multiplayer mode, which was one of the most requested features in the predecessor is now implemented here in the sequel, making the already addictive game even more so. Its visuals, controls, technical performance, and other elements have also seen a major overhaul, turning what was once a janky but endearing game into the definitive open-world survival zombie game.

3. Telltale’s The Walking Dead: Season 1 (Pc, Ps3, Ps4, PsVita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Switch, Android, IOS, Linux)

Get your tissues ready for this incredibly emotional zombie game, Telltale’s The Walking Dead. Following Lee Everett as he tries to protect a young girl named Clementine from the dangers of the new world after the dead have risen.

Unlike other games on the list, this game plays more like a cinematic point-and-click adventure, something akin to games like Detroit: Become Human and Until Dawn, than traditional third-person games. However, instead of doing lots of puzzles, it focuses more on its story, characters, and the impactful choices that you make, and it does it superbly well. Every single character that you meet in this five-episode adventure is full of depth and personality; and none of them is ever safe, which means anyone can die at any moment, making for an emotionally gut-wrenching experience.

And if you love the source material that it's based on (the comics), well, this game is set in its universe and it even features some key characters from it. So, if you love the walking dead and the zombie genre, then this is a no-brainer (no pun intended).

This game will put you in an anxious state, thanks to the constant fear of danger when exploring its claustrophobic hallways and intricate puzzles that require deep thinking to be able to solve. On top of that, you’ve also got to manage your inventory and of course, the terrifying zombies, whether it be the shambling ones or the intense and deadly crimson heads. This HD remaster of a remake packs a ton of new content and improvements that make its classical mechanics still accessible in this generation.

A masterclass in horror, this is an essential game for the genre fans.

In Valve’s zombie hit, choose from four lovable survivors as they fight their way through massive hordes of infected to reach a certain objective in this five-chapter adventure that’s presented as a movie.

It and its predecessor is a game that needs no introduction; if you own a pc then you’ve probably heard of these awesome classics. Many games, including some on the list, have tried to replicate its formula but nothing can ever come close to it.

From its satisfying combat, gory visuals, and high octane intensity, there are a lot of things to love in this game. There’s a reason why many players still continue to play this classic even after a decade later. It was and still is the best zombie game for PC.

The game uses its split worlds mechanic to make some intricate puzzles. Both worlds are detailed and fun to explore, especially in the later parts of the game where the story becomes a bit more hectic.

14. Dead By Daylight

Dead by Daylight came out in 2016 and it still stands tall as one of the best asymmetrical multiplayer games. The game’s theme is slasher horror movies, which is probably one most fit for this genre. In the game, you either play as the survivors whose goal is to stealthily escape from the killer and fix generators until the exit opens and they can escape for good. Or you can play as a killer whose goal is to hunt down and eliminate all of the survivors.

The game has very crisp graphics and also supports both 3rd person (as a survivor) and 1st person view (as the killer). There are a variety of nice and highly atmospheric maps. But the most fascinating thing in this game is how nice and detailed the killers are. Just looking at their designs makes you want to try out and learn a new killer just because they look so cool!

Amnesia: Rebirth is the newest game in the Amnesia franchise. It brings forth a very captivating story with unexpected plot twists in an unexpected setting. I wouldn’t have expected an Amnesia game to start off in a desert, but since it did so with a good reason, this game brings a bit of diversity to the franchise.

The game makes you carefully plan out how to spend your light sources in order to keep your sanity during the playthrough. The game is very dim and creepy and still keeps the classical Amnesia feel.

12. Layers Of Fear 2

Layers Of Fear 2 is a story-driven psychological horror game with a focus on slowly uncovering your past as you play it through. The game is relatively new so the graphics are good, but where its beauty shows most is after a slowly-paced exploration part, the game ups the stakes with some amazingly over-the-top beautiful scenes for each episode’s finale which leave you breathless.

Besides the amazing story and the nicely designed villains, the game really tried to make every part of the ominous village feel different. There are a bunch of segments of the map, all boasting carefully composed scenery.

The graphics are way better than the Left 4 Dead games since they game out a while ago, but the level design and even the design of ridders has been really improved in order to bring something new to the well-known franchise.

There’s not much to say about the graphics since they are basically perfect. The whole game is highly detailed and movie-like thanks to the motion capture they used. The game’s plot is mostly in an underground tomb, in which you can expect a lot of sharp claustrophobic corners that help slowly build up tension as the game progresses.

The volunteers you play as are destined to die as they are already infected, and you’re playing for the good of the colony, not necessarily yourself. It’s an interesting take on communal survival and what it means to be human.

There’s a surprising amount of gratification one feels when you hack your way through zombies, crates and drywall; all for the purpose of finding the right resources for your adventure. Fun design for sure.

That rare time when the game is arguably better than the film? It’s yet another outbreak where you and three of your friends decimate stampedes upon stampedes of undead in the broken streets of Europe.

These zones are beautifully disgusting as you duck and weave through collapsing streets and gooey, overgrown, parasitic monsters. The game definitely knows how to challenge players who are accustomed to these outbreak type scenarios, a game that really makes you earn your title of “survivor”.

6. God of War (PS4, PC, PS5)

Okay, okay… While not exactly a zombie game per se, it’s clear that the dead are walking along alcoves of Midgard in the form of Draugr, Hel-walkers and “all manner of creature”. On your way to the top of the mountain to spread your wife’s ashes, you play as Kratos as he trains his son to slice through any and all monstrosities that stand in their way.

There’s no better gratification than ripping through a draugr with the Leviathan Ax, or scorching a Hel-walker with the fiery Blades of Chaos. There’s even undead revenants and travelers that all want to kill you and your son. Upgrade your armour and weapons and stock up on those Indunn Apples lest you end up a Hel-Walker yourself.

5. Back 4 Blood (PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC, PS5)

When faced with eternal doom, the best you can do is laugh in their face. You play as several colony survivors in a post-apocalyptic outbreak of whom you’re basically at war with.

4. Dying Light 2 - Stay Human (PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, PC PS5)

You’ll definitely be a morning person after playing this nightmare. In yet another post-apocalyptic world, 15 years have passed since and you play as a pilgrim, Aiden, traveling from settlement to settlement in search of his lost sister.

Dying Light takes the set up of Will Smith’s I Am Legend and plops you into one scary world. Unlike Mr. Smith, however, at least you have some allies and plenty of cool resources to help you out. But make no mistake, a game like this ain’t for the faint of heart as some nefarious fiends may make you long for isolation.

3. Resident Evil 2 (PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC, PS5)

Everything you could ever dream of a remaster is here in Resident Evil 2. Kennedy and Claire, two scrappy survivors of a zombie outbreak, need to escape Racoon City as it has become overrun with you know what.

You have the choice to sneak past these creatures or take them head on. Either way, this is one thrilling and heart pumping adventure that is on par with contemporary third-person shooters of today. Whether a nostalgic trip or a first time run, this is definitely a game to check out for zombie fanatics everywhere.

2. The Last of Us Part II (PS4, PS5)

Probably Naughty Dog’s most immersive game yet, The Last of Us Part II knows how to rack up the stress of its players on a physical, emotional and even intellectual level. You play as Ellie on a vengeful hunt across the dilapidated streets of Seattle and as Abby, the target of Ellie’s vengeance.

Both characters are devoured by the horrors of the infected as well as the deranged ideologies of long time survivors. Just when you think the coast is clear, the game will slap you with the most terrifying escape route you’ll ever have to trek and throw monstrousties at you like the repulsive Rat King. Best you save up for therapy after this one.

Resident Evil has done it again with this latest installment. You play as Ethan searching for his lost daughter in a derelict village, full of both atmosphere and the wicked. If that wasn’t creepy enough, just wait until you meet some of the deranged residents lurking in this ghoulish town.

There’s a good balance of mystery, combat, puzzles and psychological thrills with Village which is sure to keep you engaged every step of the way. The level design and architecture really shine in this installment and with Ethan as badass as ever, you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment with every baddie you take down. Good luck.

Back 4 Blood Announces $20k Cleaner Tournament

Back 4 Blood has announced a $20,000 tournament and has invited Back 4 Blood players and their friends to sign up and see if they have what it takes to win.

At 9:25 PM CET on 23 November 2021 Back 4 Blood retweeted a tweet by Facebook Gaming announcing a $20,000 last team standing Back 4 Blood tournament.

Teams can sign up using this form and are required to provide the Captain’s Discord ID, as well as the Discord IDs of Player 2, Player 3, and Player 4.

Player’s are also required to join the ‘Back4Blood Invitational’ Discord group. To be eligible to compete, players must be ‘Level Up’ or ‘Partnered’ Facebook streamers. Players that are accepted to compete will be added as friends on Discord by the group admins.

The rules, as stated on the ‘Back4Blood Invitational’ Discord group, are as follows:

The event will be run in a “Last Man Standing” format.
Teams will have 3.5 hours to play the PvE mode starting at Act 1 on Nightmare difficulty.
The team who gets the furthest into the game will be the winners.
The tie-breaker will be the team who got the furthest the quickest.
Teams can back out and reset as many times as needed and to get better RNG.

Prize distribution is as follows:

1st - $10,000
2nd - $6,000
3rd - $3000
4th - $1,000

The Discord rules further state:

The teams will submit their rounds in the Discord to admins who will update the leaderboards for viewers to see.
Teams can use any in-game mechanics, items, cleaners, or cards to play, there will be no limitations.
At the end of the event, the 4 teams who got the furthest will receive prizes.

The tournament will start at 11 AM Pacific Time on 3 December 2021.

No More Friendly Crusher Fire - Back 4 Blood Major Update

Back 4 Blood released their November update on 9 November 2021, with, as stated in their official patch notes “quality of life updates, along with balance updates for Campaign and Swarm PvP!”.

Back 4 Blood specifically highlighted that they have fixed a bug that causes Special zombie spawn card duplication, resulting in too many Specials, and the subsequent obliteration of player teams.

For players who can’t stand the annoying chatter of their fellow players in PVP or campaign mode, in-game voice chat can be disabled using the game audio options.

Additionally, there is a mute-all button in the Swarm PvP scoreboard to shut the rest of the peeps up and give you a little peace and quiet.

Back 4 Blood is paying a little closer attention to detail and the quality of the game by adding improved character animations for reloads, picking up equipment and weapons, etc.

They have also graciously decided to make solo campaigns a little easier by making sure that bots actually know how to use the defibrillators.

One slightly less-than-useful alteration that has been made is that Karlee can no longer see Ogre’s underground while they tunnel, so watch your step…

Last but definitely not least, players are immune to friendly fire while grabbed by a Crusher and for 1.5s afterward. So no more getting riddled by friendly bullets!
