The best show for all ages and I mean ALL AGES! My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has retained all the good vibes you could possibly stuff into a kids show and still make it appeal to adults regardless of age and gender. I didn’t grow up watching the previous My Little Pony seasons but I loved my journey through Equestria with this specific Mane 6.

But of course, every story must come to an end, and as we gear up for another MLP series we can keep ourselves occupied with these other cartoons to remind every pony that friendship is the most powerful source of magic out there. Here are 10 cartoons that any bronie and pegasister out there can get into.

In an unspecified kingdom, two baby girls, a princess and a pauper were born at the same time and shared identical faces but different hair. When the kingdom is about to fall into poverty the queen is forced to marry off her daughter, Princess Anneliese to King Dominic. The princess, knowing her duty to her kingdom, agrees to the engagement but makes a request to her tutor to be brought to the town so can experience her last dose of freedom. I want to throw every barbie movie in this list but that should be a separate list on its own, so I decided to go with Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper as the closest movie to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. The movie talks about the unbreakable friendship between our two heroines, who, despite only knowing each other for one day, have already put their utmost trust in one another. It has great music, some of the best from the entire barbie franchise, and you have two female protagonists. Barbie has been a known icon to inspire girls to reach for the dreams despite your gender.

9. Winx Club

Winx Club at first follows a teenager named “Bloom” who knows nothing about magic or fairies. Her world changes when she encounters a battle between Stella, a fairy and an Ogre. Bloom intervenes in the fight when things start to look rough for Stella. She discovers that she does have magical abilities. Impressed, Stella invites Bloom to attend Alfea with her so she may learn more about her abilities and learn how to properly use them. After another skirmish with the Ogres, she decides to go with Stella and learn about magic, leading her to meet the other girls and eventually build the Winx Club.

Travelling to a new land to learn something about friendship and magic—Twilight and Bloom have a lot to talk about if they ever meet. In Twilight’s case her magic has already been polished but she lacks companions who will stick by her side no matter what comes her way. Bloom will learn about friendship and her magical abilities as well. She starts off as the most timid member of the group but overtime develops to become probably one of the strongest fairies of Alfea.

8. Star vs. the Forces of Evil

Star Butterfly, a magical princess from Mewni is the next to ascend the throne of the Butterfly Kingdom. On her 14th birthday her parents gave her the family’s heirloom wand. Unable to fully grasp her power, she accidentally sets her castle on fire, leading her parents to send her to earth where no magic exists for magical training. Star now lives out her days as a student living under the Diaz’s family roof while keeping her wand away from the clutches of evil.

The best way to learn is through experience. Twilight was a star student when it comes to magic but never knew that there the strongest magic of all is friendship. It took a firm order from Celestia for her to live in ponyville and learn about making friends. The same goes for Star, her parents had to send her to an area without any magic for her to understand and appreciate her magic more. She also learned about creating friends and family through her school life.

7. Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir

Two teens, Marinette Dupain Cheng and Adrien Agreste, separately end up finding two objects called Miraculous. Being the two new owners, Marinette and Adrien are now able to transform into Ladybug and Cat Noir respectively. They are now Paris’ crime fighting duo, ensuring the safety of Paris from Hawk Moth who has been transforming the citizens into akumas through their negative energies. Both Marinette and Adrien must hide their identities from the city and each other in order to keep everyone safe.

Friendship doesn’t come without its own rain showers. Sometimes friends fight or grow out of touch due to different priorities. Marinette and Adrien struggle to find balance with being superheroes, friends and a member of their respective families. In My Little Pony, we see the Mane 6 battling similar social problems with jealousy, misunderstandings, shortcoming, self-doubt, peer pressure and other problems.

6. Tinkerbell (Film Series)

All of us know Tinkerbell from Peter Pan, but how about her backstory? Tinker Bell is born from the first laugh of a baby and is brought by the winds to Pixie Hollow (a part of Never Land). Every Fairy has their own talents and jobs, for Tinkerbell she discovers that she was born to be a tinker fairy, a fairy who makes and fixes things. The movie series is about Tinkerbell’s adventures and her colorful array of friends, each possessing their own unique talent.

I believe this movie series should be seen by all My Little Pony fans. Remember how the Mane 6 each represent a trait of friendship? The Tinkerbell films are a bit like that with each fairy taking up a main character role for each film. Each of them have to battle a physical boss and their own personal shortcomings to overcome adversities in their realm.

5. Digimon Adventure

On August 1, 1999, 7 kids from a summer camp got transported to the digital world via the Digivices they found on the camping grounds. After finding themselves in another world they befriend 7 Digital Monsters who they later come to learn as their partners. Now, together with their Digimon, they travel across the Digital World to find a way home. Their coming to the Digital World is no accident, apparently these kids are the 7 chosen children to save both the human and the digital worlds.

Another series that shows how having companions could be the best thing in the world? Digimon! particularly the very first series that started the franchise. While a lot of anime and cartoons alike showcase friendships between characters, I think nothing beats the bonds the DigiDestineds have with their partner Digimon and with their fellow teammates. Through their bonds and their crests, they can reach even higher levels of digivolutions.

4. Avatar: the Legend of Korra

After Aang’s death, the world now has a new Avatar, a waterbender in the south pole named Korra. Instead of travelling the world to master the four elements like her predecessor did, she was kept in the south pole and had tutors come to teach her. Now, she has to master airbending from Aang’s son Tenzin. However, Tenzin cannot stay in the south pole due to political problems in Republic City and is forced to travel there to oversee the problems. Impatient due to the turn of events, Korra decides to travel to Republic City and finally do her duties as the Avatar while learning airbending.

My Little Pony is known for bringing strong, iconic female characters up to the center. All the members of the Mane 6 stand out well on their own especially Rainbow Dash who is shown to have a tomboyish personality and isn’t afraid to get her hooves dirty. For Korra, we finally have a female main character who proves her worth as a great bender despite being a female. Let’s not forget her partner Asami who can go toe-to-toe with benders despite not being able to bend elements like the rest of the new team Avatar.

3. Cardcaptor Sakura

Sakura Kinomoto, an ordinary young girl, finds a mysterious book. Upon opening the book she accidently releases the clow cards that were sealed within it. She finds out that she has magical powers and has the ability to seal the cards. Together with Keroberos, she searches and seals the magical cards before they cause too much trouble in the city.

If you loved the wholesomeness of My Little Pony, then Card Captor Sakura is another light and fluffy show anyone can watch. It’s an old shoujo magical-girl show geared to young girls but just like MLP-FiM, the show has also attracted adults of all kinds. Sakura also doesn’t fight on her own, she, Kero, hero best friend Tomoyo and later Syaoran all help her card capturing escapades.

2. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Adora and Catra are orphaned best friends and have been training hard to join the horde as Hordak’s soldiers. Adora however is unaware that the rest of the planet is suffering under Hordak’s rule. An incident caused her to get lost in the woods and find a magical sword. The sword allows her to transform into the Legendary Princess of Power She-Ra. She is told by other residents of Etheria about the evildoings of the horde and now swears to help the rebellion defeat Hordak. They form the Princess Alliance, a group of magical girls who defend Etheria from anyone or anything that causes it harm. Catra who feels betrayed rises in ranks in the horde and makes no move to join her ex-best friend.

Another female centered story where we have a badass female protagonist who can definitely outdo any male soldier that may come her way. She was strong as a regular human but Adora goes above and beyond once she is able to transform into the all-powerful, She-Ra. The show fleshes out the truths and struggles among friends, specifically between Adora and Carta as well as the importance of companions or communities, and the theme of "good will always triumph against evil" is always present.

1. My Little Pony: Equestria Girls (series)

The show follows the main characters of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, only reimagined as human teenage girls attending Canterlot High and with a new female main, Sunset Shimmer. The series is set directly after the Equestria Girls Movie series showing off how the girls deal with their everyday life with school, the band, and their part-time jobs. Following the series, the girls also have magical abilities where they sometimes use it to help their everyday life or when magic seeps into their dimension.

If you’ve finished the main series then it’s about time to get into Equestria Girls, before you jump into the shorts better get into the three main movies first. The shorts are a fun watch that show lessons on friendship and everyday situations. The fact that the girls are now represented as humans make them much more relatable as compared to their pony-counterparts. But at the end of the day, you’re still looking at the Mane 6 and every quirk you love about them-- which is all the reason you need to start Equestria Girls.

[Top 10] Avatar: The Last Airbender Best Moments Worth Watching Again

July 19th marked twelve years since Sozin’s Comet entered earth’s orbit in the four-part series finale of Avatar: The Last Airbender. As of this past May, the show is finally available to stream in the United States on Netflix. To celebrate, here are some of the show’s defining moments that are sure to get you hooked all over again.

10. Aang Visits the Southern Air Temple

A:TLA doesn’t mince words about the fate of the Air Nomads. Within hours of awakening from his century-long slumber, Aang learns that the Airbenders had been wiped out for decades courtesy of the Fire Nation. His response? Taking his glider for a spin and torpedoing into a snowbank. It’s not until “The Southern Air Temple,” the third episode of season one, that Aang sees firsthand the carnage of the war when he finds the skeleton of Monk Gyatso, his former mentor.

This time goes...umm, less well—Aang loses control over his emotions and awakens his avatar spirit, nearly blowing down the temple. While the two-part series premiere largely kept things on the light side, Aang’s first meltdown is the first of many times the show throws a devastating emotional punch.

9. Azula’s First Demonstration

In the final seconds of season one, we’re transported to the extremely on-fire chamber of Firelord Ozai, Zuko’s father. Ozai growls a mission to the young woman kneeling before him: her uncle (Iroh) is a traitor, her brother is a failure, and they must be captured. It’s the first time we’re formally introduced to Azula.

She takes center stage in the inaugural episode of season two, “The Avatar State,” when she finds and attempts to capture Zuko and Iroh. The ensuing struggle is one of the best scenes in the series: not only does Azula demonstrate her combat prowess (including our first glimpse of lightningbending), but the psychological warfare she wages against Zuko—and the insidious grin plastered across her face—send a clear message about the show’s newest antagonist: Azula is nasty.

8. Drink Cactus Juice!

With A:TLA’s willingness to explore more serious themes and subjects, it’s easy to forget that the show wasn’t all heavy, all the time. In fact, part of what makes it so great is its knack for striking a balance between serious and fun.

Sokka’s run-in with cactus juice just might be the epitome of that balance. In the midst of one of the Gaang’s most dire situations—lost in the desert with no Appa, no water, and no signs of life for miles—Sokka drinks from a cactus and, well, goes on a trip. Between worming across the desert, dancing like a used-car lot blow-up doll, and swiping at air with his boomerang, Sokka’s experience with the quenchiest drink around is always worth the watch.

7. There is No War in Ba Sing Se

In “City of Walls and Secrets,” the Gaang arrives in Ba Sing Se, the Earth Kingdom’s capital city, hoping to convince the king to join the war against the Fire Nation. The city is well-known across the world as an extravagant and luxurious destination—but the people inside are either unwilling or unable to talk about the war. Team Avatar eventually finds out that the government is brainwashing people into believing that there is no war in order to maintain neutrality.

There’s perhaps no clearer sign of a society barreling toward a dystopian future than one with a government that dictates truth and simply refuses to acknowledge anything to the contrary. Ba Sing Se also uses rings as social dividers, promoting its opulent “upper ring” to distract from the fact that countless people in other areas live in poverty—also generally a faux pas. And so...hmm. To be honest, I can’t think of any reasons why this might be relevant right now. Oh well. Let’s just say this didn’t happen!

6. Katara Freezes the Rain

Immediately upon joining team Avatar, Zuko chaperones each member (except Toph) on a life-changing field trip. “The Southern Raiders,” is Katara’s turn: hoping to provide her with closure about her mother’s killer, Zuko and Katara go on a covert operation to find him and get revenge.

This episode gives us a chilling look at how powerful Katara has become, and the lengths she’s willing to go to for people she cares about. After she used bloodbending for the first time, she broke down in tears; in this episode, she uses it to interrogate a soldier without batting an eye. And when she finally finds the man who took her mother, the girl who once struggled to make a water whip makes the rain stop. Other Katara-centric episodes, like “The Desert,” “The Painted Lady,” and “The Puppet Master,” position Katara as the group’s level-headed conscience. “The Southern Raiders” shows us just how much anger she’s been carrying—and how terrifying it is when she lets it out.

5. The Moon Spirit

Team Avatar knew how to end a season on a high note, and their first finale is no exception. “The Siege of the North” sees the Fire Nation invade the Water Tribe’s northern faction as Aang roams the spirit world. Knowing that the moon enhances waterbending, Admiral Zhao kills the moon spirit’s physical form, a koi fish, to permanently weaken the water tribe.

The moon spirit’s death is one of the first major turning points in the series: Iroh, after attacking Zhao, is set to be imprisoned alongside Zuko, setting the pair on their independent path. Aang, meanwhile, is permanently scarred by the destruction he caused in the Avatar state, and his reluctance to tap into it looms throughout the series. We also witness one of the first major tragedies in the series as Princess Yue, the northern tribe chief’s daughter, is forced to sacrifice herself by returning the life force she borrowed from the moon at birth, and becomes the new moon spirit.

4. The Storm

Not a singular moment, technically, but “The Storm” is best taken as a whole rather than by its components. The twelfth episode of season one provides a history lesson on both Zuko and Aang. For Aang, that means watching how his life changed when he found out he was the Avatar, and coming to terms with his fate now; Iroh, meanwhile tells us how Zuko got his scar, and why he’s so hellbent on capturing Aang.

A:TLA emerged from the ice as a good show. At times, though, the beginning wobbled—”The Divide,” which immediately precedes “The Storm,” is almost certainly the worst episode in the series (and one of only two actively bad episodes—the other is “Avatar Day”). In “The Storm,” the show finally settles in, establishing both Zuko and Aang as deep and complex characters and setting up the show-defining dynamic between them. It’s the first truly excellent episode in the series.

3. Zuko’s Crossroads

From almost the onset of the series, A:TLA teased Zuko’s eventual turn toward good. Between exploring his past through flashbacks and fleshing out his own cognitive dissonance between what he wanted for himself vs. what others wanted from him, it was always a question of when, not if, Zuko would start on that path.

Never did that inevitably feel closer than in “The Crossroads of Destiny,” the finale of season two. Previous episodes saw Zuko release Appa from underneath Lake Laogai, renounce his alter-ego as the Blue Spirit, and fight a sickness that Iroh believed sprouted from his internal conflict. The connection he forged with Katara in “Crossroads” seemed to solidify that turn; instead, he attacks Aang, nearly killing him. Zuko’s betrayal not only temporarily sidelines Aang, but it’s almost enough to sever his relationship with Katara entirely.

2. Leaves from the Vine

After arriving in Ba Sing Se, the Gaang attempts to secure a meeting with the Earth King and convince him to join the war against the Fire Nation. Unfortunately, not even the Avatar can defeat the plodding process of bureaucracy, and the Gaang is given a month to kill before their meeting. “The Tales of Ba Sing Se” explores how each character spends that time in the form of several character-focused shorts, or “tales”.

Truthfully, every one of the tales is excellent—particularly Zuko’s date with Jin, a brief and bittersweet taste of what a normal life could have been—but none more perfectly captures its subject than Iroh’s. It starts with Iroh buying a flower for “a special occasion,” and follows him as he makes small differences throughout the day—pacifying a crying child by singing a nursery rhyme, teaching kids about the value of honesty (and the value of not getting beaten down), even teaching a mugger better technique. It all culminates here: a tearful remembrance underneath a shimmering sunset for Lu Ten, Iroh’s son, killed in the war. “If only I could have helped you,” he laments, before singing the same nursery rhyme that earlier calmed the child. It’s one of the high points of the series, and over a decade later, it still carries the same weight.

1. The Zuko-Azula Agni Kai

In “Sozin’s Comet,” the four-part finale of A:TLA, the series sticks a near-perfect landing. Each and every character gets their moment to shine, and storylines three seasons in the making finally come to a head. And while Aang’s ultimate showdown with Firelord Ozai is praiseworthy in its own right, the time we’ve spent with the Fire Nation Prince and Princess make for a much more intimate battle.

I mean...where do you even begin? It’s visually stunning; towers of blue and red flames clash together, and the siblings demonstrate firebending techniques that are equal parts beautiful and devastating. The brooding orchestral-string soundtrack reminds us that what is happening is deeply, deeply tragic as the fire itself bellows with the force and ferocity of two people desperately trying to destroy each other. Most importantly, the duel illustrates Zuko’s transformation: he’s rid himself of the angst and rage that once plagued him—and has infected his sister—and when the time comes, he sacrifices himself to save a former enemy, thereby accepting Katara’s help in finishing the fight. It’s the final stop in one of the finest character arcs we’ve ever seen.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Based on the world-famous Nickelodeon series, Avatar: The Last Airbender stars Aang, the lone surviving, 113-year old airbender. Also playable are other characters from the series, like Katara, Haru and Sokka, each with their unique abilities. As they seek Hiryu, a waterbender who has gone missing, Aang and his friends come under attack from the Fire Nation's raiding ships, led by none other than Prince Zuko himself. As the Fire Nations build deadly machines to assure its dominance, Aang and his friends must journey to the Earth Kingdom to stop their menace.

In Avatar: The Last Airbender, players get to enter the world of Avatar and play as their favourite characters in an original story spanning several kingdoms.
