The stirring anime series; Attack on Titan, started as a story of a boy who wanted nothing more than to take revenge against the Titans.

Titans, known as species of giant human monsters, were the creatures that attacked humanity and consumed them barbarically. These monsters were responsible for his mother’s death. However, as the story progressed and unfolded, we, as the audience, learned that there was more to the story than just a simple revenge quest.

The author of the series Hajime Isayama made an intricate plot and finally explained where the Titans originated from, why the Colossal Titan and Armored Titan suddenly appeared at Wall Maria one day without any warning, and, more significantly, why humanity was locked behind those walls all these years.

However, in this article, we will discover the extreme resentment of another percentage of humanity that resided outside the walls, Marley, against the nation of Eldia. We will also go through why Eldians were hated as a nation by the entire world.

Eldia’s True Identity as a Nation

In the past, there was a kingdom known by the name of Fritz, and they held an extraordinary power that gave them an immense sense of dominance.

This power allowed them to turn anyone they wanted into man-eating Titans. Hence, they excessively used this power to take over other nations under their command. Anyone who didn’t belong to the Eldian clan was either turned into Titan food or killed. They performed various experiments, such as on the Ackerman family and the Founding Titan, to control countless Titans.

It is unclear how the Fritz family was able to be masters of a power that could turn humans into monsters; nonetheless, it has been thought that Ymir Fritz- the first ever Founding Titan, made a deal with the Devil; hence the slang; “Devil’s Spawn” was used against all the descendants of Eldian kingdom.

When Ymir Fritz died after acquiring the power of the Titans for 13 mighty yet short-lived years, her powers were split into 9 Titan Shifters. Titan Shifters could assume their Titan form whenever they wanted to at their will, and each one had unique abilities.

With the power divided, Eldians continued to carry out their genocides and ruled. It was the Eldians only who could turn into Titans, and after a particular turn of events that we’ll discuss below, they were trapped behind those walls to ensure their safety.

Why Did Marley Think of Eldians as Devils

Long before the Survey Corps discovered the nation of Marley, its people, and its existence, it was made to believe for all those people that belonged and resided outside the walls that all the people living at Paradis Island were pure evils.

In a scene where Bertolt calls his former comrades ‘Spawn of the Devil,’ the audience at that time thought he spat it out of anger as he learned about Armin’s lie that the military was torturing Annie. Nevertheless, it turns out he truly meant it based on the history and information the people of Marley were being fed and brainwashed with.

According to their history books, around 1800 years ago, Ymir Fritz allegedly made a deal with the Devil to obtain the power of the Titans. Her death brought the creation of the 9 Titan Shifters, who subsequently formed the kingdom of Eldia after defeating many other nations, including Marley.

However, the so-called peace maintained by Eldia didn’t last long, as Marley rebelled during the Great Titan War. The Marleyan hero, Helos, and the Tybur family tricked the Eldian Empire and their king into turning on their backs, fleeing to Paradis Island with some subjects to ensure their safety.

But King Fritz had the Founding Titan- meaning he still had the power to command millions of Titans to trample any nation he wanted, which is why the Warrior Unit was sent to Paradis Island. The Eldians in Marley hated the ones living inside the walls and thought of them as nothing more than just wicked, evil people.

Why Did the Eldian Restorationists Believe Ymir was Their Savior

Though this history was blindly believed on the mainland, and even by the people living in internment zones, some were curious cats who questioned this bizarre truth.

The Eldian Restorationists, which had the members such as Eren himself, Zeke, and his father, Grisha, were handed over some documents by Eren Kruger (who was the owner of the Attack Titan before Grisha Yeager) and stumbled upon something far different from what they had been told.

This was revealed in Season 3 Episode 20, “That Day.” The documents given were in a different language and couldn’t be understood, but based on the pictures and their faith, they saw a contrasting truth of what they knew.

They believed Ymir Fritz awoke the powers of Titans to improve the infrastructure and agriculture, which helped the land prosper and grow- not destroy. They also learned that king Fritz took the Founding Titan with him to Paradis Island because he refused to fight the brewing rebellion, which led to him abandoning many of his people on the mainland to face the consequences of his actions. Such horrifying action led to many Eldians being transformed into Titans to fight against Marley’s enemies.

King Fritz also fabricated the lie of unleashing the wrath of the Titans in the walls to trample the remaining humanity once more if the Eldians weren’t left alone. Nonetheless, Marley still looked at Eldians as their enemies and feared the power of the Founding Titan. Thus, the Warrior unit was sent to retrieve the Founding and live as the ones in absolute control.

The Truth of What Happened Between the Two Nations

The main reason we now know the absolute truth of what happened between Marley and Eldia is the Tybur family’s Titan.

The War Hammer Titan belonged to the noble family of the Tyburs and had been solely passed down in the family alone. They knew the truth about the conflict, as the holder inherited the memories of their ancestors.

During Willy Tybur’s speech, he narrated how Helos and Tyburs weren’t the ones who ended the Great Titan War; instead, it was king Fritz himself all along. He was greatly terrified after learning about Eldian Empire’s history and was greatly pained by all the oppression Marley had to face as a nation, along with all those who got trapped in the vicious killing spree that occurred in the past.

Once he inherited the Founding Titan, he teamed up with the Tyburs and gave birth to a fake hero, Helos. King Fritz then moved as many people as he could to Paradis Island while the rest of the remaining nations under his command collapsed due to his absence.

Upon reaching Paradis, he formed the walls, which were made of Titans the size of an average Colossal Titan. He swore that anyone who dared to interrupt his peace would face the wrath of the Founding's power- which was another lie to keep enemies at bay and prevent any unnecessary wars. Next, he erased the people's memories regarding their knowledge of the outside world and renounced war, sealing it in the Founding's will.

Fritz’s vow was passed down to all the members of the royal family who inherited the Founding Titan and prevented them from fighting, making the people of Eldia suffer for the actions of their ancestors.

At one end, he was also ready to accept defeat and surrender if the forces of Marley declared war against Paradis Island. In his eyes, the sins committed by the Eldian Empire could never be forgiven, and he was okay with it. Just for a while’s peace, the Tyburs and king Fritz sold out all the people of Eldia to Marley, leading them to the oppression they had suffered all their lives.

Were the Nations Able to Maintain Peace

With the events that have turned out till the latest episode in the anime, the word peace hasn’t been heard, let alone maintained.

The conflict between Eldia and Marley is what has shaped the story and world of Attack on Titan. It has been formed to the point that none of them can be held accountable as they both are responsible for what has happened. Moreover, there is much bloodshed to deal with on both sides.

Eren Yeager, the lead protagonist and then the antagonist, realized this vicious cycle of vengeance that had been going on for years and decided to put his plan in motion to give Paradis Island the justice it deserves.

Eren’s plan was the Rumbling he activated in Season 4 Part 2. Eren started the Rumbling to turn king Fritz’s lie into a harsh reality.

Annie Leonhart is a graduate of the 104th Training Corps and a former member of the Military Police Brigade in the anime series; Attack on Titan.

She was one of the first antagonists to appear on the show. She could transform into one of the Titan Shifters and was the Female Titan. The Female Titan- around 14 meters height-wise, was known for its unique feminine body type amongst all the other Titan Shifters. It possessed intelligence and excessive knowledge about hand-to-hand combat and had the ability to regenerate or harden certain parts of its body during battles.

She served as one of the supporting protagonists in the early arcs; however, she secretly operated as an antagonist off-screen as well.

Later in the series, she serves as the main antagonist in the Female Titan arc, where she is mainly hidden in her Titan’s appearance. However, this article will cover why Annie was considered evil and what events marked her as the best villain of the series by some fans.

Was Annie Evil?

Claiming that Annie is a villain, one of the significant threats for Paradis at the beginning of the exciting series, is relatively easy to assume and, honestly speaking, valid to a major extent.

Nonetheless, before discussing the events where she displayed pure evil, it is imperative to understand why she did Annie do such terrible things. Why did she choose to be evil? We must look into her background.

From a tender age, Annie was trained by her adoptive father after being abandoned by her birth parents. Her adoptive father, Leonhart, took her in, intending to teach her to become a Warrior so that he could live a privileged life.

Thus, she was put under rigorous combat training along with her father. Eventually, as time passed, she became as strong as he wanted her to, leaving her with a lot of frustrated feelings. In retaliation for all that she had to endure, she attacked her father and left him crippled.

At some point in her life, she joined the Marley forces as a Warrior candidate. There she met her comrades such as Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover, and Marcel Galliard. Annie was selected as one of the Warriors for the mission of Paradis Island and inherited the Female Titan. She was a lone wolf who barely socialized or got along well with people.

However, before she departed for her mission- her father regretted his actions, apologized, and begged her to promise that she would safely return to him. With that in mind, Annie was determined to finish her mission as soon as possible and return to her father- even if that meant killing people and being wrong.

Now that we understand why Annie was labeled as evil let’s look at some of the events where she portrayed her villain-like characteristics.

Annie was Amongst the People Responsible for Bringing Down Wall Maria

When the Warriors attacked the people of Paradis again, the Eldians saw how effortlessly the Colossal Titan blew a strategic hole in Wall Maria.

The Eldians saw the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan that charged in, scaring people. However, what they failed to notice was the Female Titan. The Female Titan was responsible for bringing the normal and abnormal Titans as soon as Bertolt was done, creating a path for them to infiltrate.

Through her horrifying scream, Annie’s Titan could attract (not control) and call all the Pure Titans to wherever she was. Since all the Titans were usually scattered, she used her powers to call them Shiganshina and had almost all the civilians killed mercilessly at the hands of mindless, terrifying, and hungry titans.

However, she was not spotted during the battle due to being extremely tired, and she transformed back into her human form. After the attack, she regained consciousness inside Wall Rose, in a refugee camp, along with her other companions.

She was Dedicated to her Mission Despite Knowing that the Eldians were Innocent

After the fall of Wall Maria, Annie continued her search to find the royal family, as they were thought to have the Founding Titan. Unfortunately, Annie and the other Warriors realized King Fritz was just a name and still had to look for the true royal family inside the walls.

While Annie was being trained in Marley, she was brainwashed into believing that all the Eldians residing on Paradis Island were corrupt and wicked. However, as she spent more time with the Eldians, her comrades, and civilians- she realized that the Marleyans were lying all along.

Annie soon understood that the Eldians were average, ordinary people who had no idea why they were hated by the outside world. Despite knowing the truth, she still insisted on fighting against her comrades in the 104th Training Corps and other civilians.

She caused major casualties as a human and as the Female Titan, too, so that she could be done and over with the assigned mission and go back home to her father.

She Killed Marco, Sonny and Bean, and Members of the Survey Corps

Although Annie had no intentions of killing Marco, she still took his life away.

During an attack by the man-eating, mindless Titans, Annie risked her life to save Connie. This led Reiner to believe that maybe Annie had started to feel guilt and remorse for the Eldians. Reiner ordered Annie to take off Marco's ODM gear to prove her loyalty to Marley and that she still was faithful as a Warrior.

Poor Marco had overheard a conversation between Reiner and Bertolt that they were the Armored and Colossal Titans, respectively. Though he screamed at them for mercy and that they should take the chance to discuss this over, Annie took off his ODM gear in the heat of the moment- resulting in Marco’s cruel death.

Moreover, Annie was also responsible for killing the two experimental Titans named Sonny and Bean. To stop the Eldians from learning and understanding about the Titans, she used her ODM gear to kill them and stole Marco’s ODM gear.

When the military personnel asked for her ODM gear in hopes of finding the culprit, she presented Marco’s- which luckily was identified by Armin as he was aware of what Marco’s gear looked like. Thus, this helped him conclude later on that she, indeed, was the Female Titan.

In the Female Titan’s arcs, she took many lives of the Survey Corps members as she didn’t spare anyone who tried to come in her way and stop her. All she was concerned with was capturing the Founding Titan, returning to her father, and living the rest of her life privileged and in glory.

Annie Captured Eren

When the Survey Corps headed for the 57th Expedition outside the walls under the leadership of Commander Erwin Smith, they were encountered by the Female Titan.

Annie, aka the Female Titan, was after Eren as she, along with the Warriors, had realized that he was some Titan Shifter. They later knew he had the Attack Titan that had escaped the hands of the Marley forces when the Great Titan War broke out.

Annie attacked the soldiers and ran after Eren in an attempt to capture him. In the process, she killed many of the Survey Corps members without thinking twice. She even brutally shoved and got rid of Levi’s Squad (that was protecting Eren) so that she could take Eren with her back to Marley.

Nevertheless, she captured Eren and was about to run for it, but Levi and Mikasa leveled just in time and saved him. At that moment, she shed tears in her Titan form because Annie realized that the easiest option for her to return to her father in Liberio had blown up in smoke.

Even though what Annie did, was unforgiving- but knowing the back story, we now can understand how frustrating and heartbreaking it must have been for her to have blood on her hands, to kill people she worked saving humanity with, and betray the people she spent a piece of her life with so that she could satisfy the evil Marley forces and live with her father in peace.

She Fought Eren and Mikasa

After the 57th Expedition, Armin was able to connect the dots and arrive at the conclusion that Annie was indeed the Female Titan they encountered in the forest.

They convince her to go underground to confirm their suspicions that she can’t transform into a Titan Shifter. However, they underestimate Annie as she slices her finger and transforms into the Female Titan.

This puts Eren in a total state of shock, and he can’t transform as he still thinks of Annie as a comrade. However, he regains his senses, transforms into the Attack Titan, and fights against her. Through the bloody battle, Eren and Annie almost destroy the city of Stohess. Soon Annie understands that she can’t fight Eren anymore and tries to flee- climbing atop the wall towards Marley.

As she is about to climb the wall and retreat, Mikasa slices her fingers, making her fall right into Eren’s clutches. Realizing she has lost the battle, she encases herself in a crystal, preserving her body. The crystal isn’t destroyed until years later when Eren activates the Rumbling.

Conclusion

Annie Leonhart did indeed kill a lot of people and gave humanity some severe blows. However, she, too, was being manipulated by the Marleyans. All she wanted was to be with her father. It’s sad to see how these kids were instilled with hate from a young age.

Since the Trost district was quite vulnerable to titan attacks, not only did the Survey Corps have a hard time keeping off and fighting the mindless monsters, but they also had to devise a plan to plug up the wall.

Even though he told Mikasa that their main goal was to retrieve Eren safely and not go after the newly discovered Titan Shifter to finish it, he did just that.

Levi showed his agility and skillfulness and proved in that fight with the Female Titan, why he was the most experienced soldier. He sliced up the Female Titan with such thorough quickness that she wasn't able to put up a fight. Thus, Levi grabbed Eren from her mouth and escaped with Mikasa.

5. “Eren vs Annie” Season#1

Following the shocking revelation of Annie Leonhart being a Titan Shifter, aka the Female Titan, the Survey Corps put together a plan to capture her; however, they failed to do so as she transformed- causing panic and mayhem in the city of Stohess. This led to the Survey Corps having a lot on their plate to handle, as Eren needed to control his Titan powers properly.

Nevertheless, both transformed into their Titans and battled head-to-head in a gruesome, grueling, and bloody fight. This battle saw both Annie and Eren fighting ruthlessly, crushing buildings, killing people, and non-stop smashing their fists at one another. However, in the end, Annie was defeated with Mikasa's help.

What I liked most about this battle;

4. “Ymir vs The Utgard Tower Titans” Season#2

This battle was literally a one-woman show courtesy of none other than Ymir, the Jaw Titan.

Connie, Historia, Reiner, Bertolt, and Ymir were trapped on top of the Utgard castle with no gear, weapons, or other Survey Corps members to fight the titans. It was a desperate situation as the titans kept penetrating the wall, aiming towards the tower- wanting it to fall.

All of them were about to get devoured before Ymir- who jumped off the tower with a cut on her hand, transformed into the Jaw Titan. She then proceeds to take out most of the titans. Compared to the other titans, Ymir’s titan was the smallest and not quite pleasant to look at. Nonetheless, if it weren’t for Ymir’s transformation and battling the other titans, the members of the Survey Corps would have never made it out alive.

What I liked most about this battle;

Ymir’s unflinching courage despite being the only one able to battle the countless titans that kept swarming in.

3. “Levi vs The Beast Titan” Season#3

The battle where the Scouts and Eren faced their enemies in a full fledged war for the first time was in the Shiganshina district. This is also where the Beast Titan was seen in full action as he enjoyed killing all that came in his way and continued to bombard the Survey Corps with rocks and boulders.

As the Survey Corps faced heavy losses, tackling the Beast Titan was on Levi’s shoulders. When Levi took on the Beast Titan for the first time, he was full of brimming rage. Most of his comrades had been taken out by the Beast like insects. He didn’t let the Beast Titan hit him even once.

Levi’s vengeance was merciless, yet he took his sweet time defeating the Beast Titan. He sliced off his fingers, cut his feet, severed his eyes, and took Zeke out of his nape in a matter of seconds without giving him a chance to harden his neck.

Better known as Levi vs The Beast Titan part 2, this fight was more aggressive than the first.

No doubt the Beast Titan found the worst ways to mess with Levi; however, the second time we saw both these powerful men fight for power was when Zeke was being monitored by Levi and hundreds of his cadets in a giant forest.

Events turned horrifying, as Zeke let out a chilling scream that transformed all his cadets into titans-as Marley’s wine was laced with Zeke’s spinal fluid. Wanting to avoid getting eaten, Levi personally had to kill all of his cadets, which infuriated him.

Tactfully using the huge trees of the forest and well-aimed thunder spears, Levi battled Zeke once again and successfully drew him out of his Beast Titan’s nape. He might as well have ended his life then and there, but he didn’t.

What I liked most about this battle;

All the cadets turned into monsters.
Levi takes down Zeke again in a high-sounding clash.

1. “Eren vs The WarHammer Titan” Season#4

This battle was one of the MOST adrenaline-rushing wars that ever took place in the Attack on Titan's series.

After blowing up Willy Tybur's stage due to his transformation, Eren continued his violent rampage on the people of Marley. Nonetheless, he was soon interrupted as Lara transformed into the War Hammer Titan. Hailing from one of the noble families, the War Hammer Titan was a well-kept secret of the Tybur family.

Fuming with a sense of vengeance for her brother's death, she took on Eren head-to-head and engaged in a bloody, gruesome clash. She took him to the point where he was forced to come out of his nape and took Mikasa's assistance to try to end the War Hammer's advances.

However, Eren's mind-blowing strategy got the best of Lara. He forcibly used the Jaw Titan's teeth to break through her hardened crystal and consumed her fluids to gain the Titan's power.

Attack on Titan has been one of the most watched and highly anticipated anime in recent years. The storyline, plot, and everything has almost been set to perfection, and there is no denying that.

20.“First Battle – The Struggle for Trost, Part 1” Season 1 Episode 5

Five years after the first attack, humanity is preparing for their counterattack, when the Colossal Titan appears once again out of nowhere, and blows a huge hole in Wall Rose. This completely baffles Eren and as well as the cadets.

Eren faces off against the Colossal Titan as it destroys all the cannons and military armory. The rest of the cadets including Mikasa, Jean and Armin try to fight off the titans that are trying to penetrate the inner wall of Rose. Unable to fight off a titan, Eren comes to help Armin only to be devoured instead.

This one left the fans screaming as the Titans appeared once again- literally out of nowhere!

What I liked most about this episode;

The Colossal Titan appears and destroys the cannons.
Eren trying to fight off the Colossal’s immense bouts of steam, only for the Titan to disappear into thin air- AGAIN!

19. “Small Blade – The Struggle for Trost, Part 3” Season 1 Episode 7

Even though the bell for retreat is heard loud and clear by the surviving cadets, they are unable to do so due to the lack of fuel. The supply soldiers are forced to retreat inside in fear, as titans have surrounded every corner.

On the other hand, cadets such as Jean, Connie are desperately trying to find a solution. A shocked Armin reveals to Mikasa about Eren’s ill fate, as she tries to fight the titans, and make it to the supply area.

As she calls everybody a coward, and marches on her own, Jean and the rest of the cadets follow under Mikasa’s influence. Alas she runs out of gas, and is about to get eaten by one of the mindless monsters that another, odd titan takes the other out, screaming and growling against the other eaters.

The mystery of the odd titan is what for sure HOOKED all the viewers to find out the identity of this vengeful titan!

What I liked most about this episode;

Mikasa’s unflinching courage to fight, despite knowing Eren’s ill fate.
Jean realizing his responsibilities and asking the cadets to fight for their lives.

18. “Female Titan – 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls: Part 1” Season 1 Episode 17

After humanity reclaims their territory through Eren’s newly founded Titan abilities, the Scouts head for the 57th expedition outside the walls under Commander Erwin’s orders.

Armin sees a black smoke being shot in the air, realizes that they are dealing with an Abnormal Titan. The titan is intercepted by Ness and Siss who kill the Titan effortlessly. However, as another Abnormal titan occurs, they try to follow the same tactic, but to their surprise the Titan dodges their attempts and finishes both the soldiers.

Armin is left puzzled by the Titan’s speed and agility and comes to the conclusion that it is an intelligent one- just like Eren. Jean, Reiner and Armin try to take down the Titan, but in vain. As Reiner is about to be killed in its grasp, he manages to cut through and escape, saving Armin and Jean as well.

Fans hollered in surprise as it is revealed that there are more of Eren’s kind- operating under human disguise- INSIDE THE WALLS!

What I liked most about this episode;

Discovery of other types of mindless titans categorized as Abnormal Titans.
Revelation of another intelligent Titan like Eren- that too with a female appearance.

17. “Crushing Below – 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls: Part 5” Season 1 Episode 21

After letting the other titans eat her body, the Female Titan disappears in the puff of steam. It’s not long before Commander Erwin realizes that the Female Titan is one of the members of the Scouts, and is probably in the same uniform as them.

The Female Titan in its human form pursues Eren, who is being protected by Gunther and kills him. In a blink of a second- transforms again in its Titan Form, and starts running after Eren in full speed - as the rest of the Levi Squad process their team member’s death.

Eldo, Oluo, and Petra regroup to fight it, however it outsmarts each one of them, and kills them brutally. Eren- who witnesses all the deaths, transforms into his Titan, in an emotional fit of rage. After an intense hand to hand combat, eventually the Female Titan gets the best of Eren, and rips his human self apart from the Titan’s head, and runs away- with Mikasa watching in complete horror.

What I liked most about this episode;

Discovery of the Female Titan being one of the Scouts members.
Female Titan’s ruthless killing spree of the Levi Squad.
Eren’s emotional transformation, that puts even the Female Titan in shock.

16. “Wall: Assault on Stohess, Part 3” Season 1 Episode 25

After it is revealed that Annie Leonhart is the Female Titan, the Scouts try to capture her but in vain, as she transforms causing destruction in Stohess. As chaos and panic ensues, Eren and Annie battle head-to-head, as Titans in a gruesome and bloody fight.

At one point, Annie almost beheads Eren by pounding her hardened fist on his head. As she tries to run and climb the wall, Eren gets on his feet again- this time in complete rage causing his emerald green eyes to turn into ice blue.

Eren tears apart Annie’s Titan in fury as Mikasa cuts Annie’s hardened fingers- causing her to fall to the ground. However, as he is about to detach her human self from the Titan’s body, Annie crystalizes herself in an ice cage, causing the mission to fail.

Episode 25 marked the end of Season 1 in a banger! Commander Erwin highlights the fact that there could be more enemies inside the walls, and that they could be anyone of them!

What I liked most about this episode;

Eren’s exciting transformations as it got us screaming in utter excitement.
Annie’s shocking truth of being the Female Titan - they encountered at times in Wall Maria.

15. “Soldier” Season 2 Episode 4

The Scouts take refuge in the Utgard Castle, as they are unarmed and overwhelmed by the number of titans that are moving at night time. Connie also spots a Beast looking like Titan- that seems to be controlling all the titans that are attacking the old castle.

As these titans penetrate the walls, Reiner gets bitten by one of the titans while trying to save Connie. Nanaba and the rest of the squad try to kill the monsters using their ODM gears, but are unable to due to the number of titans that don’t seem to stop coming. Unfortunately, they end up dying with only Reiner, Bertolt, Connie, Christa, and Ymir surviving.

At the very last of the episode, Ymir and Christa share an emotional moment, before Ymir jumps off the wall with a knife that she cuts her hand with, and transforms into an ugly, looking titan that seems to have some history with Reiner and Bertolt.

Another intelligent Titan! The excitement went off the roof, people!

What I liked most about this episode;

Reiner’s bravery while fighting the titan that almost eats his hand.
Nanaba’s will to battle the titans.
Ymir’s heroic transformation to save Christa and the rest of the Scout members.

14. “Warrior” Season 2 Episode 6

The Scouts barely manage to regroup atop the wall after the events at Utgard Castle, after it comes to light that Ymir is also one of the intelligent titans.

After the Garrison’s advance squad led by Hannes, inform Hange and the rest of the members that there is no hole in the wall, and that the place isn’t swarmed with titans, they decide to retreat to Trost to tend to Ymir’s medical injuries.

In that moment, Reiner and Bertolt reveal that they are the Armored and Colossal Titans in the most serious tone, that for a moment even Eren doesn’t believe them- and let’s be honest we didn’t either! It’s when Reiner’s arm begins to reform on its own, and Bertolt flashes a guilty expression, that Eren realizes the ugly truth.

In a flash, Mikasa delivers bloody injuries to both Reiner and Bertolt- and to everyone’s surprise, the warriors transform into their mighty Titans! Eren is in his human form when he cries tears of betrayal, and transforms into his Titan too.

What I liked most about this episode;

Reiner and Bertolt’s mighty transformations- sending all the viewers, and the Scouts in utter excitement and shock.
Eren’s Titan transformation- while being in Reiner’s clutches, and delivering a superman punch!

13. “Close Combat” Season 2 Episode 7

With new enemies unveiled, Eren and the Scouts try their best to use the techniques, and military weapons, to fight and hold their ground.

The episode starts off with the Hange and the rest of the squad trying to take out the Colossal Titan- who allegedly eats Ymir and another soldier. However, all their attacks prove futile, as the Titan releases huge puffs of steam to keep off any who would try to slice his nape.

Meanwhile, Eren battles with the Armored Titan but with no luck- as he doesn’t have any idea how to cut through his strong armor. During the bloody fight, he uses Annie’s grapple technique to make him fall and crushes his armor. As he is about to rip Reiner from its Titan’s armor, he unleashes a blood curdling scream, and the Colossal Titan falls on top of them.

Turns out their plan was only to kidnap Eren after all!

What I liked most about this episode;

Reiner and Eren’s head-to-head, brutal brawl.

12. “Charge” Season 2 Episode 11

Whilst Reiner tries to flee with Eren, Ymir, and Bertolt in his Titan form, Commander Erwin comes up with a plan to knock him over, and retreat with Eren as he is humanity’s only hope against the titans.

Commander Erwin- with immense bravery, charges with his army that is being chased by the titans, towards Reiner in hopes that the titans would prove as a distraction while the cadets would rescue Eren. However, as the cadets try to talk to Bertolt, he doesn’t give up. He does so, when Armin lies about Annie being tortured, as Bertolt has feelings for her.

In the heat of the moment, Erwin’s one hand ends up being eaten by titan, despite that he advances, and frees Eren who is then taken by Mikasa. Just as then, Reiner starts to throw the titans swarmed around him, causing Mikasa to lose her balance, and she and Eren fall to ground.

The ultimate cliffhanger was as Mikasa and Eren look up, there comes the horrifying Smiling Titan- yes, the very same one who ate Eren’s mother! Goosebumps.

What I liked most about this episode;

Commander Erwin’s valor and heroism, despite his one arm literally being chomped off by a freaking titan.

11. “Scream” Season 2 Episode 12

As Eren attempts to save Mikasa from the Smiling Titan, Hannes comes just in time in order to protect Eren, and also avenge his mother’s death, as she too was eaten by the Smiling Titan.

Once again, Eren is forced to watch in utter horror, as the monster devourers Hannes too. Frustrated, he finds emotional solace in Mikasa- the simple act of wrapping her scarf around. Just as the monster is about to reach for them, he screams and delivers a punch, causing a strike of lightning and all the other titans attack and kill the Smiling Titan.

Now having discovered a new power, i.e. the Founding Titan’s power, he saves Mikasa and runs with her on his back. Commander Erwin and the rest of the remaining scouts are able to safely retreat, as Ymir makes the difficult decision of going back with Reiner and Bertolt.

Season 2 ends with the Scouts realizing that titans are humans too, - just like the ones fighting them!

10. “Thunder Spears” Season 3 Episode 14

The Scouts headed by Commander Erwin become skeptical of the enemy’s whereabouts, since they don’t interfere with the outer gate being plugged. Soon, both the Beast Titan and the Armored Titan appear, commencing the battle between humanity and Titans.

Now in his Titan form- Eren decides to battle with the Armored Titan, as the rest of the Scouts with Levi, protect the horses, and keep an eye on the Beast Titan’s movements. It is for the first time in the anime that a new weapon is introduced against the Armored Titan’s skin since it isn’t flesh. “Thunder Spears” are the only way to take down Reiner.

As the Scouts corner and hit Reiner with their spears, the battle has officially begun!

9. “Perfect Game” Season 3 Episode 16

Following Bertolt’s gigantic transformation, the Scouts face a shower of arrows and boulders from both sides. The Beast Titan starts bombarding the houses, where the Scouts headed by Erwin Smith have taken refuge.

Meanwhile the Scouts with Eren try their best to stop Bertolt from reaching the wall. As they come up with a plan, Eren marches forward to stop his legs, but he swings him atop of the wall- while the rest watch in horror. Erwin and Levi realize the dangerous situation they are in, and decide to charge at the Beast Titan with a plan, whilst Levi takes him down.

Commander Erwin shares an emotional moment with Levi- as he tells about his dream he shared with his father that he wanted to fulfill- that was going down to Grisha Yeager’s basement where all the secrets of their world supposedly lie. He goes on to give an inspirational speech as courageous soldiers, and ends up dying on the battlefield as a proud soldier.

We weren’t ready to see Commander Erwin go so soon! Indeed, a highly emotional and sad ending.

8. “Hero” Season 3 Episode 17

As the Scouts charge to their death and fall one by one, the Beast Titan feels escalated. In a blink of an eye, Levi appears- having slaughtered all the tall Titans and brutally takes him down with his blades and agility.

In the meantime, the Armored Titan also gets on his feet, which puts immense pressure on the Scouts to come up with a counterattack to stop them. As the Scouts divert the Armored Titan, Armin and Eren take on the Colossal Titan on their own.

The Scouts are able to blow Reiner through his nape, and Eren tricks the Colossal Titan through Armin’s plan, but with a great price. Armin gets completely burnt while trying to stall time for Eren, and thus puts Eren in complete anguish by the end of the episode.

7. “Midnight Sun” Season 3 Episode 18

The outcome of the battle takes a toll on the Scouts as they receive countless casualties. It is revealed that both Armin, and Commander Erwin are barely alive- and are taking their last breaths. It is when Levi realizes that he has the Titan serum, but there are two people in need of it.

Though at first he is about to inject the Titan serum in Erwin, Eren and Mikasa react emotionally towards it, and that leaves Levi with an impossible choice to make. Nevertheless, the serum is injected into Armin- who transforms into a tall, mindless eating titan, and consumes Bertolt- hence inheriting the powers and memories of the Colossal Titan.

Mikasa, Eren, and the rest of Scouts feel relieved when they see Armin emerging from the Titan’s nape. However, it is a bittersweet moment for Levi and Hange- who truly loved and trusted Erwin.

What I liked most about this episode;

Armin consuming Bertolt and inheriting his Titan powers.

6. “The Other Side of the Wall” Season 3 Episode 22

Not long after Grisha’s journals found from the basement- are analyzed, the people in the walls realize that there are humans- just like them on the other side of the wall, as Grisha Yeager was from the other side of the wall as well.

After the discovery is made, the council decides to go public with the information- and not keep the people of the walls in the dark anymore. The Scouts receive medals for their bravery, by the newly appointed Queen- Historia.

Eren realizes the connection of the Founding Titan with the royal family, as he starts getting glimpses of the past through his Attack Ttian’s powers. By the end of Season 3- in the last episode, the Scouts head out of the walls to confirm the accounts mentioned in Grisha’s journals.

The Scouts finally get to see the sea below the clear sky, as Eren points beyond the wall, and the reality of more enemies being out there!

5. “The War Hammer Titan” Season 4 Episode 6

With Eren operating secretly in Marley, he meets Reiner face to face, before blowing up Willy Tybur’s stage with his transformation and eats him.

As Eren continues to rampage on the people of Marley, his attention is diverted because of Lara Tybur- as she transforms into the War Hammer Titan, and battles Eren. As both of them go head-to-head, Lara -is almost able to defeat Eren- that the fight is interfered by Mikasa who blows off the nape, while the rest of the Scouts battle with the Marley military.

Though it is quickly realized that the War Hammer Titan can’t be killed with Mikasa’s act of blowing up the nape, Eren thinks of a way to consume Lara. After vigorously pulling Lara’s crystal from under the stage, he is about to eat it, when Porco appears with his Jaw Titan and bites through the nape.

Just in time, Levi appears and cuts through the Jaw's nape as well as the Scouts who attack him all together!

4. “Assault” Season 4 Episode 7

As the forces of Paradis engage in a cruel war against the Marley warriors, chaos grips the city. With all the Titans on the ground, and in full fighting mode- Eren tries to topple the War Hammer Titan’s defenses.

In the sea, where the navy battleships are residing, Armin comes on a little boat and transforms into the Colossal Titan- like a freaking nuclear bomb explosion. This proves to be an excellent distraction- as Levi is able to take Zeke out of his Titan, while Pieck gets bombarded with Thunder Spears in her Cart Titan form.

In a face off against Porco's Jaw Titan, Eren witnesses the interesting power of the Jaw- that it can cut through Lara’s crystal, whilst his teeth didn’t even leave a scratch. With the help of Mikasa, Eren crushes the Jaw Titan, crippling his arms- and then proceeds to consume Lara in the most barbaric way.

With the War Hammer Titan being eaten, Eren shifts his attention to Porco, however, Gabi and Falco’s screaming wakes Reiner up- as he mans up to face Eren refusing to let Porco die!

What I liked most about this episode;

3. “Savagery” Season 4 Episode 14

A conversation with Eren, turns into a complete emotional disaster for Mikasa and Armin, as they realize that Eren has changed- and no longer is that friend they believed in.

In the forest where Levi is keeping an eye on Zeke, along with his many soldiers, comes up with a plan to have Zeke eaten by someone else to shift the Beast Titan’s powers. However, that moment doesn’t last very long. As Zeke lets out a horrific scream, all the cadets- having consumed Zeke’s wine laced with his spinal fluid, turn into human eating monsters.

Levi manages to battle courageously and gets to Zeke- who now frustrated with Levi turns into the Beast Titan to fight. Being the skillful soldier he is, he defeats Zeke and captures him, to take back to the Scouts.

Meanwhile the Jaegerists, headed by Floch, have Keith Shadis heinously beaten by the new cadets after brainwashing them into believing that they are following the same path as Eren – towards freedom.

What I liked most about this episode;

Levi and Beast Titan aka Zeke’s high-sounding showdown.

2. “Two Brothers” Season 4 Episode 19

Caught off guard by Marley’s surprise attack, Eren tries to fight the other Titan holders all by himself. With the city in flames, the Beast Titan also comes just in time to save Eren, and keep his promise.

As Eren desperately tries to reach and make contact with Zeke, to everyone’s surprise, through a fake death act- Pieck and General Magath shoot a bullet on Zeke’s nape, which causes him to fall down from atop the walls.

Meanwhile, Porco gets ambushed by Eren’s punches, and has no energy left to heal himself. In an attempt to wake him up, a severely beaten Reiner touches him- that leads both of them to see Marcel's memories aka the first holder of the Jaw Titan. With Falco on the brink of becoming a Titan-as Zeke is about to scream, Colt pleads him to stop but in vain.

With Zeke’s chilling scream, all those who ingested his spinal fluid turn into titans, including Falco. As Reiner lays down to pass on the Armored Titan to Falco, Porco comes in and is devoured- thus transferring the power of the Jaw Titan to Falco Grice.

Such a heartbreaking moment for Reiner!

Not to forget, the cliffhanger ending! With Eren being only a few steps away from Zeke, Gabi shots Eren- BEHEADING HIM!

1. "From You, 2000 Years Ago” Season 4 Episode 21

As Zeke comes to realize how his father- Grisha Yeager was able to steal the Founding Titan many years ago, he is put into utter disbelief.

The episode shows a horrifying glimpse of Ymir’s (the first Founding Titan and the discoverer of that power) past. How she was so in love with King Fritz, that she obeyed all of his commands like a slave- thinking it was love. She goes on to bear three of his children- the walls were named after; Rose, Maria, and Shina.

It is also shown how she dies an underserved death- and that with the power of the Titans she could have never died. Hungry for Ymir’s power, King Fritz forces his daughters to eat the remains of their mother to preserve the titan powers.

Although Ymir is a slave to all those of royal blood, and has been waiting for 2000 years to be free - is moved by Eren’s determination for freedom, and grants him the power to activate the Founding Titan.

This was THE moment fans had been waiting for since they realized that Eren possessed the Founding Titan too!

A dash and spark of mighty lighting is seen as Eren transforms in the ENORMOUS Founding Titan, alongside the wall titans that are as tall the size of a Colossal Titan. The Rumbling is finally set in motion, as all hardening is undone, and the walls that once protected humanity become mere dust.

What I liked most about this episode;

Ymir’s unfortunately horrible past.
Eren’s colossal transformation into the Founding Titan.
The Rumbling finally being activated.

Getting back to Shiganshina took Levi and the members of the Survey Corp. a lot longer than they had anticipated.

It was still their goal to find whatever Grisha Yeager had left behind in case it held the secret to defeating the Titans. Considering how likely the Colossal (Bertholdt), Armored (Reiner), and Beast Titan would all show up, that was easier said than done.

Levi wasted no time in charging towards Reiner, a former Scout, as the Scouts uncovered him hidden behind the walls. His lightning reflexes and boiling rage sparked a brief but violent encounter that set the tone for the struggle to regain Shiganshina.

Because I'm a neat freak myself, I love rewatching this scene!

Weirdly so, but it satisfies my obsessive self as the scouts scrub each and every spot. It's the first time I've ever seen a man this serious about cleaning, and honestly, it's a treat to watch.

7. Crazy Levi versus the Abnormal Titan

Scene:

After the deaths of his two closest companions in the ova, Levis transforms into the stubborn and self-assured soldier we know and love from the show.

The battle also showcased Levi's lightning-quick reflexes and his ability to unleash his vicious side. Even though he understood how to slay a titan, he chose to bleed it to death instead.

Even a single hit on an aberrant titan is impressive, but what Levi accomplished is beyond the comprehension of any ordinary soldier. It's pure class!

6. Levi Representing the Devils of Paradis Island

Scene:

Ah, this entrance of Levi has to be his best entrance for me!

When Eren is in a pickle, i.e., the Jaw Titan right on his shoulder, Levi appears out of the blue and slashes a part of his face off in one swift and clean move. With the same pace, he quickly turns around and uses his ODM gear to complete his attack.

This scene of Levi is so freaking good that I can't help rewatching it repeatedly.

Scene:

One of the rarest yet sweetest moments of AoT was this; when Levi smiled wholeheartedly.

Levi Ackerman has a sorrowful life. Levi has seen everything from his difficult childhood to his challenging adulthood. He has lost everyone close to his heart, making him the loneliest man in the entire series, even more than Eren.

If there was doubt that Levi was the strongest soldier, this battle only served to solidify that notion further. After establishing such a formidable foe in the first season, one may expect a more drawn-out struggle.

This fight involved Mikasa, although Levi didn't require her assistance. His pinpoint accuracy in combat against a titan showed in every blow he delivered. Eren was brought back thanks to his Levi Ackerman.

3. Killing His Titan-Turned-Comrades

Scene:

In season 4, the scouts transformed into Zeke's titans right before Levi's eyes. This immediately happens when Zeke escapes Levi's captivity to carry out this plan with Eren.

Just moments after the titans appear, Levi is in pure shock. He doesn't know what to do because these crazy titans were once his comrades and his dear colleagues. To further elaborate, all the scouts on the ground transform into titans and instantly attack Levi.

After hiding out in Marley for months, Eren sets up a bizarre discussion with Reiner in which he reveals that the two of them are identical. Now that he's done the same thing to Marley, he knows why Reiner, Bertholdt, and Annie invaded Paradis Island.

Now all of this is happening in slow motion - just a second before Eren's head touches the ground, the famous blue spine comes out of his head, and he transforms! There's a big explosion which is a confirmation of Eren's "erase-everyone-from-the-planet" plan.

3. Eren's Battle Against the Warhammer Titan

For me, one of the most amazing Eren Yeager scenes is his fight against the Warhammer Titan. I love it so much that it made it to my top three!

After a suspenseful buildup in the previous episode, Eren unleashed his full might in this one against the series' first appearance of a titan. Eren, defying the usual anime protocol, punched the new giant as soon as its head was visible.

10. Rodd Reis

Most of the Reiss ancestors were deranged, and Rod was no exception.

In order for the Reiss family to become great, Rod merely wanted Historia to achieve the power of The Founding Titan.
