3. Talon Bow

Upgrades:

The Talon bow returns from the GoW 4 game with a drastically changed appearance. At the lowest level it looks like a short bow made from bone colored yew, but when upgraded it regains its curvy, ornate appearance. The main difference is that Atreus loses the Light and Electric elements of the bow due to Fimbulwinter. Instead he uses Sigil and Sonic in their place now.

Atreus also improves his mastery over the bow as he can not only bash his enemies with the bow in close combat or shoot his arrows normally, but now he’s gained a charge shot. The charge shot deals high damage and he also has new bow abilities which are almost like Runic Attacks. The bow has passive ability which is Hunter’s Insight, it increases stun from melee attacks and non-runic shots.

What the Talon Bow excels in:

If facing a boss you know you cannot land a lot of attacks in as you’re controlling Kratos. You can order Atreus to shoot his Talon bow and he’ll hit all his Talon bow shots steadily but surely increasing the bosses stun bar giving you the chance to do a R3 finisher
If you know you will be fighting nightmares this bow is also very useful as you can fill their stun bar very fast and finish them off quick before they deal any damage to you
If you use Sonic arrows with the Talon bow, it’ll almost be as if your opponents are moving in slow-mo as the Sonic will slow them down and dealing stun, and every shot from the bow deals even more stun

2. Jotnar Bow

Upgrades:

LVL 1: Increased status damage from Runic Arrows/ Regular Arrows are fire in a spread
LVL 2: Greatly increased status damage from Runic Arrows/ Regular Arrows are fired in a spread
LVL 3: Significantly increased status damage from Runic Arrows/ Regular Arrows are fired in a spread

Just like the Talon bow, the Jotnar bow can be equipped with Sigil or Sonic arrows. This bow has the Warrior’s Instinct perk which increases status damage from Runic Arrows. Regular Arrows fired from this bow spread when fired.

What the Jotnar Bow excels in:

For players who love using the Blades of Chaos or Leviathan Axe, this bow is a must as it greatly increases elemental damage because of the Runic damage
When fighting groups of enemies this bow will also shine as one tap of the button can hit multiple opponents

How to get the Jotnar Bow:

When visiting Jotunheim, Atreus can craft this bow in Angrboda’s locker.

1. Aesir Bow

Upgrades:

LVL 1: Bow Abilities and Runic Summons have reduced cooldowns/ Regular Arrows are fired in a burst.
LVL 2: Bow Abilities and Runic Summons have greatly reduced cooldowns/ Regular Arrows are fired in a burst.
LVL 3: Bow Abilities and Runic Summons have significantly reduced cooldowns/ Regular Arrows are fired in a burst.

This bow also comes with the Sigil and Sonic arrows. Its passive ability is Ranger’s Resolve which reduces Atreus’ ability and Runic summons cooldown. It also fires arrows in a burst

What the Aesir Bow excels in:

This bow excels in damage output as you can release your highest damage attacks more frequently due to reduced cooldowns
When fighting bosses with high health this bow is good as you can run around and avoid their attacks as you unleash your abilities and summons on them to finish them off safely
It’s also great for bosses as one shot does the damage of three as the Aesir bow shoots arrows in a burst this could possibly deplete the bosses health almost 3x as fast.

How to get the Aesir Bow:

This bow can be crafted by Atreus in his locker when you first arrive to Asgard

4. Falcon’s Dive

4. Stinging Barrage

“Fires a powerful shot of several arrows at once that collide with heavy impact." When the Old Friends quest first starts, this skill becomes available. Atreus shoots multiple arrows as part of the ability, doing incredible damage and stun. When to use this ability:

2. Falling Sky

Even though Falling Sky has a 100-second cooldown, it is still a fantastic bow ability. This God of War: Ragnarok power's description reads, "Fires a cascade of disruptive Sonic Arrows to bombard the area." When the Sonic bar is full, Sonic Arrows can be extremely powerful in combat because they reduce Stun damage and impede enemy movement.

The Falling Sky bow ability may be found in Helheim when unlocking a Legendary Chest. Unleashing Hel makes it simpler to find the particular chest. Throwing the Leviathan axe at an opponent or using the Blades of Chaos to unleash enormous damage on ruthless Ragnarok adversaries is possible when the Runic bar is full, which increases the damage that enemies take from elemental effects.

The best armor outside of those that are exclusive to New Game Plus mode is probably Ivaldi's Deadly Mist set. After fully upgraded, it offers 50 vitality, 168 defense, 68 runic, 85 strength, and the well-known Regenerating Essence perk, which continuously heals Kratos.

The Deadly Mist set is typically chosen over Ivaldi's other armor since its stats are arguably the most evenly distributed, making it suitable for use by any build. Although one may argue that a different piece of armor would be more appropriate for a particular build, this one works for all of them.

Ivaldi's Rusted Armor must be obtained from the workshop in the optional realm of Niflheim in order for players to build the Ivaldi's Deadly Mist armor set. They can then use the materials they find in the maze to create a set of Mist armor once they have it. The maze has the supplies required to upgrade the armor as well.

Ivaldi's Endless Mist is the second-best version of the Mist armor set but the best offensive out of the three. A full set gives 137 Strength, 250 Defense, and 176 Vitality at level 9, making it absurdly durable. The armor provides the same immensely helpful health restoration as other Mist armor sets, and it works best for simple fighting builds.

The lack of benefits to Runic abilities is the only thing holding it back. After all, Kratos can become nearly invincible and be able to deal devastating damage nearing the game's conclusion if he uses his runic skills well. Sadly, the Endless Mist armor doesn't offer any further perks for it.

Ivaldi's Rusted Armor must be obtained from the workshop in the optional realm of Niflheim in order for players to build the Ivaldi's Endless Mist armor set. They can then use the materials they find in the maze to create a set of Mist armor once they have it. The maze has the supplies needed for upgrading the armor also.

Ares' armor grants up to 137 Strength, 200 Defense, 76 Luck, and 100 Cooldown for those who desire to be the true God of War. Those statistics should be plenty to persuade players to complete the game's New Game Plus mode in order to get it, but its benefits are where it truly excels.

Rage Field significantly accelerates both the rate at which Rage is gained and the rate at which it is lost. Nevertheless, there is a trade-off because if players choose to wear this armor, they will have to give up some of their Rage bar.

Players must defeat the dragon Hraezlyr in order to build the Armor of Ares in New Game Plus mode. It takes a lot of Hacksilver and Skap Slag, two rare materials that are dropped by specific opponents or discovered in chests in New Game Plus mode, to craft and upgrade the set.

In the New Game Plus mode, three of the Valkyries must be eliminated in order to gain the Armor of Zeus set. The rare ingredients Hacksilver and Skap Slag, which are needed to upgrade the set in New Game Plus mode, can be found in chests or dropped by specific foes.

10. The Stranger

In this scene we are introduced to the first and main villain in God of War 4. Baldur “The Stranger” pays a visit to Kratos and his son Atreus in hopes of confronting the Jotunn Guardian, Laufey(Atreus’ mother) who had just passed away. Baldur knocks on the door demanding the Guardian to come out. The alerted Kratos tells Atreus to hide under the floor to keep him hidden from the stranger at the door. Kratos steps out to confront Baldur and Baldur starts to speak to Kratos assuming he was the Guardian. “ I thought you’d be bigger, but you’re definitely the one. Long way from home, aren't you?” Tension rises between the two gods as they both assume wrongly of each other, Baldur thinks Kratos is the Jotunn Guardian, and Kratos thinks Baldur knows of his past but he doesn’t.

Kratos urges Baldur to leave his home but Baldur does not comply and punches Kratos. Kratos tells him to leave again but Baldur refuses again. Baldur tries to combo Kratos but Kratos catches his punch and punches him like a ragdoll. Baldur gets up and returns the favor, punching Kratos through the roof. The fight then begins behind the home.

9. Jotunheim Mural

As Kratos and Atreus, now in Jotunheim, venture to the highest peak in all the realms, they come across a wall that Atreus touches by coincidence. A magic spell is lifted and an avalanche of dust falls from the wall revealing a mural of Faye(Atreus’ mom) and giants revealing her true race to her husband and son. Further down the wall, they see their first encounter with the World Serpent, their fight with the mountain dragon, the stone mason, and their fight with Baldur which had just occurred recently. They realize that it's Atreus’ story. The best part is when “Kratos’ prophecy” is revealed when Kratos spots a drawing of a marked warrior laying on the floor “dead”.

8. Modi

“There are consequences to killing a god. Why? How do you know? How do you know!?” This infamous TikTok sound is from this scene. The scene starts with Kratos and Boy finding Modi brutally battered. Modi tells the duo how Thor treated him for the death of his brother Magni. Atreus recently finding out that he’s a god, has a head bigger than the sun. He orders Modi to move which made Modi threaten him. Kratos tells Atreus that Modi isn't worth killing but Atreus still wants him to pay.

Atreus declares that they're gods and they can do whatever they want. Modi responds with an S-tier momma joke and the arrogant Atreus kills him and pushes him off the ledge. This angers Kratos greatly and the two begin to argue. The scene ends with Atreus walking away from his father.

7. Spreading Ashes

In this scene you almost drop a tear because of what it represents. Making you feel as if you truly finished the game which a lot of other games fail to do. Kratos and Atreus complete their day 1 mission of reaching the highest peak in all 9 realms to finally spread the ashes of Faye, beloved wife and mother.

The real greatness in the scene comes from what the ashes represent. In the previous games, the ashes of Kratos’ family represented his sins and mistakes but the ashes of Faye represent his developing love and devotion which led him to his redemption journey. The ashes used to mark him as a monster, but now these ashes make him into a better man.

6. Kratos’s Flashback

While Kratos and Atreus traverse through Helheim, finding their way out, they're met by an illusion. In the illusion Kratos watches the time he viciously beats down his father back in his time in Greek. It was revealed that it was not just an illusion when Atreus seemingly watches the fight go on. This is the beginning of Atreus finding out Kratos’ past and that he is a God.

5. Baldur’s Ambush

In this scene Kratos and Atreus finally open the gate to Jotunheim. As they gaze at the beauty, they're ambushed by Baldur who manages to impale the father. He regards Kratos as “just meat” and continues to provoke the God of Brats, Atreus. Atreus, still in his high state from finding out he’s a god, attempts to charge at Baldur but his father holds him back. Atreus then shoots his father, zapping him in place with a lightning spell. He takes his chance and finally leaps at Baldur but is caught and kidnapped by Baldur like nothing. The scene ends in a chase and Baldur escaping on a dragon.

4. World Serpent

As Kratos and Atreus traverse through the Lake of Nine, they find a sunken statue with scriptures on it. It read “Sacrifice your arms to the center of the water, awaken again the cradle of the world”. Kratos then throws his axe into the water but when he called it back it did not return.

Suddenly the tides of the lake begin to shift and swing their boat back and forth, almost capsizing them. When the water settles they see a giant eye which Atreus believes to be of the World Serpent. The serpent spoke

to the duo but they couldn't understand the language he spoke. The sea had now dropped revealing all the hidden land and statues.

3. Baldur Death

After their long battle, Kratos defeats Baldur but decides to spare him on the condition that he never comes near him and his son and he never lays a hand on his mother, Freya, again. Baldur ignores the conditions and soon as he gets up again he attempts to choke out his mother who allows him to, as a way to atone for the curse she laid on him.

Kratos tells Baldur that the cycle of child killing parent has to end and snaps his neck like a glow stick. The true beauty of the scene comes as a snowflake lands on Baldur’s face. Baldur says “snow…” realizing that Fimbulwinter has started due to his death and that he is now feeling snow for the first time in forever making his death a bit more sweet.

2. Blades of Chaos

This scene starts with Kratos delivering an ill Atreus to Freya begging for her help, displaying emotions viewers had never yet seen from the fearsome God of War. Freya tells him in order to cure Atreus they need the heart of the keeper of the Bridge of The Damned from Helheim. But the problem is that no fire can be lit in that realm and the Bifrost axe is useless against the dead. Knowing this Kratos is forced to dig up the notorious Blades of Chaos and the past he swore would stay buried.

On the journey back to his home you can see the atmosphere turn red and dark reminiscent of Kratos and his past in previous games. Sitting in the boat with nothing but his thoughts Kratos gets a visit from Athena but tells her to get out of his head and her illusion disappears right after.

The gloomy Kratos finally uncovers his Blades of Chaos but is once again paid a visit by Athena who bashes him and everything he is trying to be. She tells him he cannot change and is nothing but a monster, “I know, but I am your monster no longer”. Kratos said as he walked through the image of Athena dispersing it into air, ready to let out his true Spartan’s Rage.

At the end of the adventure, Kratos and Atreus decide to hit the hay and get some well-deserved rest. Suddenly there's a one-year time skip and the father and son are woken up to lightning striking and destroying their home. When they leave to see what's going on outside, they see none other than Thor the Aesir God of Thunder/Obesity.

10. Fiske

Fiske in the God of War is a scythe wielding Einherjar. It is believed that he was a farmer who died in battle and went to Valhalla which is why he carries a farming tool. He then proved himself to be a skilled warrior becoming one of Odin’s top captains. He also has the ability to manipulate Bifrost. Kratos and co. encounter Fiske when protecting Vanaheim from an Einherjar invasion.

How to defeat Fiske:

Watch out for Fiske's attacks.Fiske only has a handful of combos, but his most frequently used ones involve striking twice or three times. His two-hit combo begins unblockable but ends with an attack that can and should be dealt with by a shield slam. Parry as frequently as you can.Fiske swings slowly but hits fairly hard, not to mention he applies Bifrost. Even if you don't see the yellow ring, you can parry any of his attacks that aren't unblockable (the red ring). This rapidly fills up his Stun bar, especially if you parry multiple attacks in quick succession. Also think about switching to a Dauntless Shield if you have some confidence in your abilities.

When Fiske's weapon glows purple, keep your distance. Fiske has the power to add Bifrost energy to his weapon, depleting some of your health while it lasts. Make some space between you and him when you notice that his weapon has a purple glow. It's also a great opportunity to zone him using your rune powers.

9. Vanadis

Vanadis, the Valkyrie Queen, is one of the first bosses faced in the game. She’s an agile and aggressive valkyrie that uses magic, including a poison that disables Atreus’ magic, stopping his summons and arrows. Vanadis is revealed to be the alter ego of Freya, the ex-companion of Kratos, seeking vengeance on the father and son for killing her son Baldur in the previous game. You’ll encounter the valkyrie when she ambushes Kratos and Atreus at their home.

How to defeat Vanadis:

In addition to using her wings to swiftly move around the fighting area and switch positions, Vanadis has a number of attacks. Initially, you have the option to attack her with the weapon of your choice and direct Atreus to shoot arrows at her as you strike her. She uses her sword to deflect your striking attacks, but a strong blow can get past her defenses. So, if you see her sword blocking your attack, just hit her with a heavy attack to get past her defenses.

Vanadis's initial attack is a horizontal arrow shoot that you cannot avoid by moving to the side; instead, you must use your shield to deflect the arrows. She also performs ground slam attacks in which the Red Ring is visible on her body and she repeatedly strikes the ground. This attack is not possible to parry or block, so be sure to keep a safe enough distance from the slam's effects to avoid getting struck.

She will also shoot arrows at you quickly, one after another, and you can block them with the shield, continue to dodge them, or, if you time your parry correctly, shoot them back at her to deal damage.

She will begin to shoot the poisonous bolts after her HP is halved. You shouldn't approach the Poison because it will make Vanadis stronger while weakening you. To get you to turn around, she'll fire several poisonous bolts close to her. While the poison is still present, you can still tell Atreus to shoot at the target.

She will also now attack you with her sword, and when she does so, Yellow Rings will appear on her, making it impossible for you to parry or block it. In order to avoid being hit by the Yellow Ring Attack, you must dodge. You don't want to be struck by her sword strikes, which she'll make multiple strikes at.

8. Golrabs of the Ashes and Forest

In God of War Ragnarok, the amount of trolls the father and son duo face is reduced significantly but there are four secret ones that can be fought for a reward. The Golrab of the Ashes and Frost are the hardest out of the four whereas you fight both of them at the same time. One possesses ash based powers and the other ice based powers which is significant in the method of beating them.

How to defeat Golrabs of the Ashes and Forest:

You can go ahead and use your standard block to block their swinging pillars so they can't hurt you. Given that their attacks are the same, you should have no trouble taking down this pair as long as you know where they are both.

A red ring around these creatures' torsos indicates the most lethal move they are capable of. The Golrab is about to charge you and bring slam its pillar when you notice this. If you get hit by this attack, it will damage you terribly, but fortunately these two move slowly. If you keep an eye out, you should be able to see the Golrab charging and move out of the way in plenty of time. If you have good timing, you might even be able to launch a few counterattacks while their pillar is still imbedded in the ground. Just keep in mind that a red ring indicates that you are unable to parry, interrupt, or block the attack. The only thing you can do is dodge.

The Golrabs will fling dirt your way to make you blind and confused. Since you are unable to see what the two of them are doing, this attack may be their worst. At this point, a Golrab might take you by surprise with a swift charge or a swinging pillar. Try moving backwards and keeping your distance until things clear up if your vision becomes blocked.

7. Thor(Asgard)

Thor is the big bellied god of thunder and also one of the main villains in the game. As you play you’ll encounter Thor twice, once in the beginning of the game as he came to punish Kratos at his home for killing his children, and towards the end of the battle in Asgard. Thor wields lightning abilities as well as the mighty hammer, Mjolnir. This battle has a lot of unblockable attacks and QTE events so you must be on your toes at all times. There are three phases to the battle where Thor will change his attacks.

How to defeat Thor:

After engaging in combat, Thor is extremely vulnerable to shield strikes, especially when The Dauntless Shield's charged attacks are used against him. He will stagger backwards and become temporarily vulnerable to all incoming attacks when you unleash a Shield Strike on him. Now is the ideal time to use your Runic Attacks since you won't have to worry about him avoiding them or even getting hurt.

The Draupnir Spear and Leviathan Axe are ideal for this fight because a charged Spear throw can significantly deplete Thor's health and the Axe typically bounces off of him when thrown from a distance.

Thor uses a plethora of close-range, unblockable attacks throughout all three phases, so we strongly advise you to adopt a strategy that has you leaving the battle arena after three or fewer heavy melee attacks from Thor.

If you're nearing the end of your health, think about attempting to parry Thor's incoming blows in the hopes of obtaining a Healthstone.

6. Heimdall

When Kratos and Freya make their way to Einherjar to free Freyr, they’re interrupted by a sudden attack from the god of Foresight, Surveillance, Order and Foreknowledge, Heimdall. The battle starts with Heimdall mounted on the horned beast, Gulltoppr which Kratos makes quick work of. Heimdall’s ability of foresight and his agility makes it almost impossible to land any attack when he gets off of Gulltoppr so you'll have to rely heavily on the Draupnir spear. This battle also has three phases starting with Gulltoppr and ending with the fast paced brawl after Kratos spares the Foresight god.

How to defeat Heimdall:

If you throw spears at Heimdall, be sure to blow them up as soon as you can because if he moves quickly or realizes, the spears will be destroyed and no damage will be done.

In addition to pushing Heimdall back and dealing a lot of damage, parrying his block break melee swipe will also cause him to become vulnerable to damage for a very brief period of time.

You will have the choice to block or dodge Heimdall's incoming attack during his Realm Shift attack. The majority of the time, we discovered that attempting to dodge at this time was quite dangerous because you'll need to act quickly to raise your shield in time to avoid damage.Its best to avoid this attack whenever you can, but make sure to dodge sideways because Heimdall's melee swipe causes him to lunge forward each time.

5. Hrist and Mist

Hrist and Mist are the vicious valkyrie duo Kratos and Atreus face at the Spark of the World as they wait for Surtr to transform into Ragnarok. They are among the last loyal Valkyries to Odin. Hrist and Mist constantly go on the attack, employing hit-and-run strategies, teaming up for combos, powerful AOE attacks, and wing attacks reminiscent of earlier Valkyries. Additionally, there are different phases to the battle, so you're occasionally forced to change your attention to Atreus' assistance.

How to beat Hrist and Mist:

First off, Atreus and the Valkyries frequently comment on their impending attacks throughout each phase of this battle, which heavily relies on audio cues. One such instance can be heard when Hrist shouts "sister" aloud. This will serve as Hrist's order to summon Mist into battle and order her to attack you.

It's crucial that you keep an ear out for these tiny audio cues because they'll give you a big advantage and let you get ready for any impending attacks you might not have seen coming.

Always, especially when one of the Valkyries is sidetracked, unleash as much heavy damage as you can when given the chance. You'd be surprised at how much damage you can deal with a few well-timed charged hits. Attack interruption and parrying occasionally provide healthstones.

Always be ready as they will rejuvenate themselves back to full health and new power after you “defeat” them.

4. Hrolf Kraki

The king of the Berserkers, Hrolf Kraki is the worst and thankfully the last berserker faced in the game. King Hrolf Kraki's arsenal of skills and techniques, which are directly lifted from the other Berserkers, is what makes him such a terrible force. You'll need to use everything you've learned from previous battles to its fullest, dodging every move he throws your way while also letting loose with precisely timed attacks, much like the Valkyrie Queen Sigrun fight in God of War (2018). You’ll find the sword wielding Berserker in the aptly named King's Grave in Midgard. Get ready because this devious displays a large variety of attacks.

How to defeat Hrolf Kraki:

King Hrolf is capable of almost any significant move you've seen a Berserker perform before. He won't (thankfully) summon more minions to harass you, so you can concentrate solely on him and lock on target to follow his constant dashes and teleports.

He can use any element at close range for many of these moves, beginning with the traditional "Daudahogg," which involves two swift tracking projectiles that arc at you as he floats in one direction before switching to the other. The second one can hit him if he stops moving, so it should be parried if at all possible.

You will be fairly tracked by his ground tremor spell, so hold your ground and block his attacks frequently while you await his next move.

The "Pyrping" spell fires a barrage of fast-moving tracking projectiles that you must only avoid after they have begun to fly because avoiding them before they have begun will still cause damage.

King Hrolf can summon any of the elemental "Vengi" unblockable moves to perform the more lethal attacks. This includes the fireball shower all around you, which you should carefully dodge by strafing and backpedaling while utilizing as much of the arena as you can.

The three large radius effects of the frost Vengi give you more time to fill him with Draupnir Spears or charge a permafrost axe to throw and knock him out of it due to their static positioning.

The shock Vengi will appear in a straight line, but will quickly target your last known position, so keep moving and dodging while avoiding becoming trapped against a wall.

Finally, the Bifrost Vengi must be stopped as soon as purple sparks appear. This can be done with any of your ranged weapons as long as you act quickly before the explosion occurs.

At close range, expect the King to rapidly conjure many of the weapons you've come up against when dealing with the Barbarians. He can, however, also go without any weapons and attempt a two-hit combo by infusing his fists with random elemental energy. These are excellent to parry, especially with the ability provided by the Dragon Armor perk to accumulate damage for use later.

Be on your toes at all times, if you hear the Berserker shout just expect a ruthless attack to befall you

Recognizing patterns and even getting lucky with him not using your most hated attacks, like the blue ring attack or the Bifrost explosion, can go a long way in this battle. When you manage to throw him off balance, press on with your attack and switch between weapons to use Runic Attacks as necessary until he jumps away, at which point you should pivot in order to get ready to block his subsequent move.

3. Nidhogg

Nidhogg is the giant serpent-like creature that is assigned to protect the Yggdrasil roots, Kratos and Freya face her at the World Tree’s Base as they try to undo Freya’s binding spell. Nidhogg has Rift Creation, Enhanced Senses, Super Strength, Extreme Durability, Bifros Manipulation. In this battle there are four phases.

How to defeat Nidhogg:

Do not hesitate to approach closely. As Freya advises, you should make sure to parry or dodge attacks throughout the fight, then move in close to deal heavy damage to the creature's head after it has finished attacking or been stunned or interrupted.

Nidhogg is best defeated with melee attacks, but ranged attacks with your axe are still an option; they just won't do much damage.

The area is littered with Healthstones and Ragestones, which you can loot throughout the battle despite the area's generous checkpoints. So, if your health is getting low, take a quick look around the area; chances are you'll see some lying around.

The majority of the Nidhogg's attacks have sizable AoEs because of its immense size and the general attack types it employs. This is why we advise you to move around the area frequently; if you stay in one spot for an extended period of time, it will be much harder to avoid the creature's attacks than it has been with other boss encounters.

The Nidhogg will use a tail-charge attack during the second round of combat, slamming its tail into the ground and then shooting out two blue rings. Four pulses of these rings will occur before the tail explodes. Prioritizing stopping the attack by swiftly double-tapping L1 will ensure your victory throughout this battle. This will stun the object, giving you a brief window of opportunity to deal close-range melee damage while feeling reasonably safe. One of the main ways to quickly deplete Nidhogg's health bar is with this attack.

2. Odin

Odin Allfather the master manipulator is the king of all Asgardian gods. With his nonstop yearn for knowledge to change his fate,he gained immeasurable amounts of power and abilities. The Allfather was the puppet master behind everything that unfolded in the 2018 God of War game. After the all out battle against Thor, Kratos convinces him to change his life around and get out of the control of his manipulative father Odin. This angered Odin he came and killed Thor as he no longer had any use for him, this is where the battle against Odin ensued. Due to Odin’s high level of intellect and shiftiness this turns a battle into a fight of constant movement.

How to defeat Odin:

The Rond of Purification shield attachment, for example, really shines when you're dealing with a lot of Bifrost attacks because you can block them before unleashing them on Odin in a reversal. This approach and tactic will significantly increase the overall damage you do to him.

Odin moves quickly and can deflect long-range attacks fairly well. For this reason, you should dodge at the perfect time and then attack when he's close by if you're not parrying an incoming attack.

You'll need to defeat Odin one more time after you first reduce his health bar and he escapes through the ground. Thankfully, Atreus and Freya will help you out during this battle. Make use of their abilities because there are numerous instants when you'll need to have them target orbs in order to avoid taking a lot of damage.

When you get to the next checkpoint after dealing half health, you'll be prompted to press R3 to deliver a devastating blow. Odin will rise with protected health bars; here's what you need to know about damaging each bar because he is still too strong to be defeated by your attacks.

The only way to harm blue is with your Blades of Chaos.

The only way to harm orange is with your Leviathan Axe.

Odin will also receive a number of new attacks to add to his arsenal in addition to the protected health bars. Be ready for Odin to use a variety of attacks that he has employed throughout the various stages of the battle during this phase as well.

1. Gna

Gna the Valkyrie Queen who is one of the last loyal subordinates to Odin is by far the hardest opponent in the game. You’ll encounter the ferocious Valkyrie when she ambushes Kratos and Freya in Muspelheim when she tries to get vengeance against Freya the “traitor”.

First off, Gna's attacks are deadly because of the incredible speed and ferocity behind them. There won't be much time for you to respond to one blow before another is ready to blow your head off. Additionally, because of how quickly her combos transition, missing even a single block, parry, or dodge will guarantee defeat. Not to mention her enormous health bar, which makes this battle an endurance as well as a skill test.

How to defeat Gna:

Emblem of Elusion, an amulet enchantment, significantly aids in avoiding "For Asgard!" slam attacks.

Use the Dauntless Shield to parry; doing so can prevent some attacks from happening, most notably a yellow-ringed attack in which she can jump into the air and land three times, each time launching a cone-shaped wave of bifrost. By blocking this attack, she won't be able to repeat it, and any bifrost buildup will be avoided. Use the parry shield instead of blocking this attack with the Stone Wall shield because doing so will cause you to accumulate a lot of bifrost, you might not have enough rage to clear it, and you might end up staggered from blocking too many attacks and getting hit anyway.

Increase the timing window of parries by using Rond of Deflection.

Equip Freya with the accessories Nocked Proficiency, Runic Potency, and Sigil Punishment, and only use runic arrows on her unless Gna is summoning the sound stone (switching to sonic arrows to cancel that attack and then immediately switching back to runic arrows). Since it will be easy to keep Gna status inflicted with this setup, the Vanaheim amulet enchantment set bonus will pair very nicely with this for extra damage.

10. Kratos Vs. Bjorn

As Kratos searches the snowy forest for his son and partner in crime, Atreus, he is suddenly ambushed by a gigantic bear. Kratos and the bear proceed to throw down, full on WWE style. As Kratos parries and pummels the bear, the beast returns the favor, chewing on the god like a doggy toy. Kratos gets fed up and unleashes his infamous "Spartan Rage." In the end of the battle, Kratos pins the bear and goes for the kill. As he’s about to snap the neck of the beast, out comes Atreus, revealing yet another new ability.

9. Kratos and Atreus Vs. Vanadis

Atreus, continuing through his rebellious stage, sneaks back to his home cabin, which he’s been restricted from by Kratos, to try to find answers and a way to save his father. He finishes off a herd of Hel-Walkers and tries to portal away, but is met by none other than Kratos. Kratos gives him a brief interrogation, but their reunion is foiled by a Valkyrie.

The father and son try to stop the fight, telling the Valkyrie that they saved its sisters, but the Valkyrie proceeds with the attack. Kratos and Atreus throw down with the Valkyrie till she's almost defeated. Kratos finds out it's actually the witch, Freya, and drops his guard, which causes her to catch him and put a blade to his neck. Atreus, in fear, transforms into Bjorn and charges at Freya, but Kratos stops his attack, reminding him of their friendly past with Freya. Freya then says she’ll "spare" them because she has a better purpose for them, to escort her out of the realm to lift her curse.

8. Atreus Vs. Gryla

Atreus and Angrboda hide behind a giant cauldron after sneaking into the home of a giant. The giant is the grandmother of Angrboda, Gryla. They’re planning to stop her from stealing the souls of the animals she hunts down."You know... you should be thanking me. What good does a soul do to anybody? It's just a vessel for pain." the giant said as she handled her soon to be victim. Gryla is a demented and anger-driven giant who uses the souls of animals to escape her reality by using their souls to experience their memories.

After their planning, Atreus and Angrboda jump into action, distracting the giant and freeing the wolf. The giant yells at her granddaughter for returning, and the battle begins. Gryla uses her cauldron magic to throw projectiles at Atreus as he swings around, evading her magic attack. As the two children stun the giant little by little, they end up destroying all of her cauldrons, leaving her powerless and hopeless. The giant, now in defeat, tells her granddaughter she does not matter and she will be forgotten, but Angrboda says Gryla is not a monster, "She’s lost."

7. Kratos and Atreus Vs. Garm

While searching through Helheim for the last piece of Odin’s mask, Atreus and Thrud found a giant wolf locked in chains. Atreus wanted to free the beast, but Thrud insisted the fiend must be in chains for a reason. As they tried to search behind the wolf, they had to unlock a couple of chains to get to the chamber. This caused the beast, Garm, to escape and open up tears in the realms, allowing Hel-Walkers to escape Helheim and wreak havoc.

Feeling guilty, Atreus and his father returned to Helheim to deal with the undead wolf. Atreus attempted to tame the giant wolf, but his efforts failed. They then attempted to rechain the beast, but the plan failed, and Kratos demanded they do things his way from that point on. They battled with the ice-spitting beast and "killed" him multiple times, but he kept on getting up. Atreus thus realized the beast didn't have a soul, so he couldn't die. Atreus had the bright idea of transferring the soul of his deceased pet Fenrir into Garm.Getting a boost from his father, Atreus reached the head of the beast and stabbed it with the blade that contained the soul of Fenrir. The soul transfers, Garm becomes the reincarnation of Fenrir, and the problem is solved.

6. Kratos and Freya Vs. Nidhogg

As Kratos and Freya continue on their mission to free Freya of Odin’s curse, they finally reach the roots of the world tree. Freya finds out the roots of the tree are knotted, which is why she can’t travel between realms. As the pair try to free the knots, a giant serpent looking beast appears out of a rift and tries to put an end to their scheme. The beast is Nidhogg, the guardian of the roots of the world tree, Yggdrasil.

Nidhogg blocks the way to the roots but is distracted by Kratos as the two begin their battle. Freya tells Kratos to keep the beast busy as she tries to find a way to the roots. As Nidhogg unleashes a variety of space-warping attacks, Kratos finally finds his chance and grabs the fangs of the beast, holding him in place. Freya flies past the beast and frees a knot, which allows her to regain her human form and join the fight against Nidhogg. Using her sigils, Freya gives Kratos the edge in the fight as they slowly deplete the life of the giant serpent. On a last-resort attempt to escape, Nidhogg tries to escape but is stopped by Freya and Kratos, getting his head seared off by the chains from Kratos’ Blades of Chaos and a spell from Freya.

5. Kratos and Atreus Vs. Hrist and Mist

Kratos and Atreus, continuing on their mission to attain Ragnarok, had now made their way to the Spark of the World with the fire giant, Surtr. They attempt to transform Surtr into Ragnarok after discovering that he is Ragnarok himself. Surtr draws out some primordial magic and imbues it into Kratos’ Blades of Chaos. Kratos’ then stabs the protruding heart in Surtr’s body to trigger his transformation. After receiving the jab to the heart, Surtr fell off the ledge, starting his transformation.

As Kratos and Atreus awaited the transformation of Surtr, they were ambushed by Hrist and Mist, the last Valkyries still loyal to Odin. In the 2v2 battle, Kratos and Atreus beat down the two Valkyries multiple times, but they ask Odin for more power, which he grants them. They return with a new set of health and strength levels. As the battle went on, the two Valkyries managed to pin Kratos down, which made him unleash his rage, freeing himself. In the end, the father and son land some vicious combos on the sisters, snapping Mist’s neck and tearing Hrist in half.

4. Kratos and Freya Vs. Gna

After the fall of Asgard, there were still Asgardian soldiers that survived the battle. They wanted to avenge Asgard and get revenge on the "traitor," Freya. They were led by the new Valkyrie queen, Gna, the former handmaiden of Freya. During the Ragnarok in Asgard, she was accidentally warped away through a realm tear, opened by Fenrir.

In Muspelheim, Kratos and Freya encounter the queen, who charges at them in her blind rage to avenge Odin and Asgard. After the long, vicious battle, Kratos manages to grab the Valkyrie and subdue her. Freya attempts to talk her out of her anger, but she won’t let it go. She tells her to finish the job, which Freya does swiftly, slicing her head off clean.

3. Kratos Vs. Thor(final fight)

As Kratos and company try to hold back Ragnarok in Asgard, they see Jormungandr in the distance, surrounded by a bunch of lightning. The world serpent is defeated after a strike to the head, and Kratos realizes the new threat approaching the group. He tells them to clear off the battleground and leave the fight to him as Thor charges at Kratos. The lightning god swoops in and carries Kratos, telling him he’s here for him and his son, and this time he can kill them.

In the brutal battle between the two gods, they exchange blows and even clash their weapons, where Kratos gains the upper hand, knocking Mjolnir out of Thor’s hand. Kratos proceeded to impale the god in his stomach and slam him to the ground. As Thor tried to get up, Kratos stuck his hand to the ground with a knife but spared him for the sake of their children. Thor's eyes are finally opened to the fact that he can change and that his life can be more than just destroying.As the two gods talked, Odin came and asked Thor why he was talking to Kratos, who should be dead. Thor tells him, "Sif was right about you, i just didn't wanna see it." Odin, realizing Thor would no longer function as his puppet, kills him by stabbing him through the heart with a spear.

2. Kratos and Atreus Vs. Heimdall

When Kratos and Freya find their way to Einherjar to free Freyr, they’re interrupted by a sudden attack from the god of Foresight, Surveillance, Order and Foreknowledge, Heimdall. Freya shoots a power-canceling arrow at the god, but he effortlessly catches the arrow mid-air. Kratos advises Freya that her efforts are needed elsewhere to rescue Freyr and that he is more than enough to defeat the boisterous bully.

The two gods start their battle with Heimdall mounted on the lion looking beast with horns, Gulltoppr. Kratos proceeds to show off his animal cruelty, killing the beast, leaving Heimdall to fight on his own, and simultaneously becoming number one on PETA’s hit list. Heimdall continues the fight on swift and nimble feet, bobbing and weaving every attack thrown his way. After throwing several fruitless hooks and jabs, Kratos is finally able to land an attack on Heimdall with the help of his newest weapon, the Draupnir Spear. After landing the first hit, it becomes much easier to negate the health points of the arrogant god.

Kratos pins Heimdall to the wall, making him scream and plead for him to stop as he’s never felt pain before. Leaving the now defeated Heimdall on the wall, Kratos decides to spare him, but Heimdall’s pride would never allow the fight to end in such a manner. Heimdall threatens to kill Atreus, which provokes Kratos to blow off his right arm as his final warning. Heimdall doesn't accept and grows his right arm back with the power of Bifrost, then blasts Kratos away with a punch to his shield. Heimdall goes all out in the final fight, but his efforts fall short against Kratos, who is enraged by Heimdall's taunts and threats towards his son. Kratos smashes Heimdall's face into the ground, turning it into a bloody pulp, before choking him out, stripping Asgard of one of their biggest assets before Ragnarok.

1 Everybody Vs. Odin Allfather

After bringing Ragnarok to Asgard, Kratos and his allies took on Odin’s army. In the war, Kratos and Thor face off once more, which ends with Kratos convincing Thor to give up his old ways and see his father for who he really is. Odin, seeing this, quickly arrives at the battle field, ordering Thor to finish the fight and letting him know he is his puppet. Thor, in defiance, drops Mjolnir. Odin quickly drives a spear through his now "broken" son’s heart and blames the death of his son and the downfall of his family on Kratos and Atreus. This kicked off the battle between the father-son duo and Odin.

During the battle, Odin manages to bind Atreus and his father in a time spell, but the favour is returned when Freya binds Odin with another spell. Odin uses a notorious crow of his as a distraction and destroys the ground, dropping them all into his lair. He sees Atreus and tries to convince him to wear the mask and find the answers that Odin sought, but Atreus chooses his father instead and splits the mask into two, foiling all of Odin’s efforts. Odin, now enraged, engages in battle against the trio but is quickly taken down by their teamwork.

As Odin is now beaten, he tells Atreus how he ruined everything and how the two could’ve made everything better. Atreus quickly shuts him down, telling him he only cared for himself and no others. Atreus tells Odin he can still change, but the old, stubborn Allfather refuses, so Atreus sadly takes the soul of his mentor and traps it in a marble. As Kratos, Freya, and Atreus decide what to do with the marble, they’re intercepted by Sindri, who smashes the marble along with Odin’s soul as revenge for his brother, Brok, whom Odin killed.
