1#. The Bandit Clan ($9.99 USD)

Summary of The Bandit Clan DLC

Composed of different animals, the Bandit Clan has a gang of Heroes with unique skills that’ll make your game more interesting. From permanent Evade to swapping places with King’s Guards, the Bandit clan adds new gameplay and challenges to Armello.

The Bandit Clan Review

This is my favorite DLC as some of my favorite Heroes are in here. Sylas and Horace in particular are very fun to play as. Also, the idea of a clan being a band of misfits brought together is a fun concept as well.

Along with the new Heroes, the change to gameplay is unique. You take on a more anti-hero status with these guys. That makes it interesting to play.

Only one Ring, the Serendibite Ring, is uniquely a Bandit Clan Ring, the rest are pilfered from other Clans. This adds variation to gameplay that is odd, but not unwelcome.

Personally, I recommend picking this DLC up first and as soon as you can afford to get it! You won’t be disappointed in it.

What you'll get with the Bandit Clan DLC

You get 4 new Heroes and their shady abilities. These include:
- Sylas, the Fisher of Souls, is an otter on a revenge quest against the King. His Butcher ability gives him +1 Sword in battle for every Bounty stack he has. These swords gain Pierce against King’s Guards
- Horace, the Iron Poet, is a badger knight once in the King’s good graces. His 9th Knight ability allows him to trade places with King’s Guards instead of attacking them. That is, as long as he doesn’t have a Bounty stack.
- Twiss, the Little Lightpaw, is a master squirrel thief. Her Pickpocket ability gives her Evade everywhere and allows her to steal a card from the attacking player if she successfully escapes.
- Scarlet, the Bandit King, is a fox who leads the Bandit Clan (if you couldn’t tell by her name). Her ability gives her a free Companion card when she captures a Terrorized Settlement.
You get 1 New Ring from the Bandit Clan and use the Rings of other Clans to bolster you. The Serendibite Ring gives Bandit Heroes +1 gold and +1 Prestige for every King’s Guard killed. Fun, right?
You get the Bandit Clan Dice. That’s fun shade of gold and black you got there. Real fancy like.
The Listen Amulet which, previously only was for showing off. Now, you get a bonus Star after multiplayer matches.
You get over 50 new Bandit Quests which tell their side of the story as well as introduce us to the shadier elements of Armello.
You get a new skin for the Squire Companion card. Now instead of an unfortunate mammal, you get an unfortunate toad who’s going to die in your place.

2#. The Dragon Clan ($9.99 USD)

Summary of The Dragon Clan DLC

Made up of many reptilian creatures, the Dragon Clan are the acolytes of the Rot. Now, they have returned with 4 new Heroes in the Dragon Clan, new Quests for these draconian Heroes, 6 new Rings, a new Amulet, and a free Novella to introduce us to their homecoming.

The Dragon Clan Review

Really, these are on par with the Bandit Clan in terms of what they offer. The Dragon Clan Heroes offer new gameplay that makes Rot victories easier to achieve than ever.

This is not just because of the new Ruin Amulet. It’s allso because the Dragon Heroes are immune to Rot dawn damage. That alone is a plus for the Corrupted path!

They’re also cool in terms of model and backstory. They truly resemble dragons in their appearance and have an intimidating gameplay.

Additionally,, like the Bandit Clan, I play most of the Dragon Clan Heroes and pretty frequently. Nazar’s Illusions and Volodar’s Enthrall abilities add an edge to the game that shakes things up.

I recommend you get this right after the Bandit Clan. Yet, if you’re more partial to Rot victories, get this DLC before the Bandit Clan. Bring the Rot back in its totality!

What you'll get with The Dragon Clan DLC:

4 New Heroes from the Dragon Clan.
- Volodar the Wormchanter, a Komodo Dragon with a bell capable of controlling Banes. His Enthrall ability turns Banes into sentinels that attack anything that moves to an adjacent spot to them , except Volodar.
- Oxana the Sentinel is an iguana who hunts Druids and kills them. Her Flagellant ability destroys a random Spell Card in her opponent’s hand when she attacks them. That locks the destroyed Spell Card as a burned attack and adds the Card’s Magic cost to her explode pool.
- Agniya the Revenant is a huge turtle whose lived for centuries in service to the Rot. Her Consecrate ability gives her +1 health regen for 2 turns for every enemy she kills.
- Nazar the Maniac is a gecko with many carvings on his skin and a mind somewhat in pieces. His Illusion ability can deceive enemies and even take out Perils.
New Dragon Clan Quests told in stone and carving. Not the clearest in what happens, yet still great to play.
One Free Novella on Armello. This novella tells the tale of a mouse that finds the Dragon Clan…and how it returned to Armello.
One Dragon Dice. It hints at their ancient history and servitude to the Rot.
6 New Dragon Clan Rings exclusively for them.
- Sulfur: Grants immunity to Swamp damage.
- Basalt: You gain Stealth and Poison on your first rolled sword while on Dungeons.
- Axinite: You get +1 Die in battles and Perils until the end of your next turn on any creature kill.
- Cinnabar: You get a random 1 Magic Cot spell card to your hand any time you lose any Prestige.
- Tremolite: You start with +1 Rot, and you give +1 Rot to any creature you end your turn next to until the end of their next turn.
- Serpentine: When you complete Quests, you lose 1 Rot and gain +3 magic if you lose Rot that way.
The new Ruin Amulet. This allows you to terrorize any Settlement you enter and gain +1 Rot and gold in return.

3#. Usurpers Hero Pack ($9.99 USD)

Summary of The Usurpers Hero Pack

The Usurpers Hero Pack adds a new Hero to each of the base Clans and 4 New Rings, one for each Clan. These new Heroes are unique in their own ways and bring their skills to bear against the King.

Usurpers DLC Review

While it doesn’t add as much for its price tag as the Bandit or Dragon Clans, the Usurper Heroes are still great additions to the lineup. Particularly, Elyssia and Magna are favorites of mine to use in-game.

The Rings are another added benefit. The Rubellite Ring for the Wolf Clan is crucial to my success when playing them after I bought Usurpers.

While it adds less than the first two DLC, Usurpers is still a great DLC to get. Would highly recommend getting it.

What you'll get with Usurpers DLC

4 New Heroes, one each to the Wolf, Rat, Rabbit, and Bear Clans.
- Ghor the Wyldkin is a Bear who can transform into an Ent-like creature. Ending his turn on a forest makes him immune to the next time he takes damage, except for morning Rot damage.
- Magna the Unbroken, a Wolf with a huge shield and even larger ability to not die. Shield cards she burns in battle gain Reflect. Basically, her ability is the inverse of Thane’s.
- Sargon the Death Teller, a creepy Rat with more knowledge and sight than other Heroes. At the start of his turn, the top Cards of all the Decks are revealed allowing Sargon to know what he’s picking.
- Elyssia the Wardess of Warrens is a famed architect of Armello and one of the more ingenious Heroes. When she stops on Settlements, she permanently Fortifies them. She also only needs 1 move to enter Fortified Settlements.
Four new Rings to give power to the 4 Starting Clans.
- Rubellite – If Hero is at 3 health of lower, they gain +3 Fight (Wolf Clan)
- Aquamarine – Gains +1 Moon for Battles and Perils at night (Bear Clan)
- Tanzanite - +2 Gold when you escape a Peril (Rat Clan)
- Rainbow Quartz - +1 Magic and +1 Gold every Dawn (Rabbit Clan)

4#. Seasons Board Skins Pack ($4.99 USD)

Summary of The Seasons Board Skins Pack

The Seasons Board Skins Pack gives the world of Armello two new looks: The Fall and Spring Versions. In the Autumn, you’ll see the orange and golden leaves in the game. In the Spring, you’ll see the beautiful multicolored flowers dotting the place as butterflies flutter by.

Seasons Board Skins Pack Review

While it seems surprising to have a Board Skins Pack over a Hero Pack, I actually find these skins more enjoyable than the Rivals (even Fang, sorry!).

There’s just something relaxing about seeing the bright orange colors of Fall or the butterflies in the Spring that makes the game more enjoyable. I become more immersed in it when it’s one of those two seasons.

Yet, it is a purely aesthetic change to the game, which is I rank it lower than the 3 Hero and Clan packs above. Nonetheless, it’s an aesthetic change that’s well worth the price tag.

I very much recommend you get this Pack when you can. It is a welcome and beautiful change to the world of Armello.

What you'll get with the Seasons Board Skins Pack DLC

The Autumn Board Skin. This changes Armello’s looks to a Fall appearance with fallen leaves on the ground and the trees changing from green to orange, red, and gold.
The Spring Board Skin. This adds a Springtime look to Armello with butterflies flying about and flowers dotting every part of the landscape.
Both Board Skins come with ambient audio and sound effects to fit the seasons.

5#. Rivals Hero Pack ($9.99 USD)

Summary of The Rivals Hero Pack

The Rivals Hero Pack adds 4 New Heroes to challenge the other Heroes. This pack also includes Four new Rings, one each for the Rabbit, Rat, Bear, and Wolf Clans, and the Intimidate Amulet.

The Rivals are designed for causing chaos and trouble in the game. Trickery cards, loose cannons (literally) and bloodthirsty howls are just the start with this pack.

Rivals Hero Pack Review

Fang and the Spinel Ring are personally the best things to come out of this pack for me and that’s not saying that much. One great Hero and a Ring that boosts all Rabbit Clan Heroes isn’t that good of a trade for $9.99.

Don’t get me wrong. It is fun to play as Hargrave and Griotte sometimes. However, they’re also very difficult to play and not as much fun as the Heroes in the packs I’ve mentioned previously.

Still Fang and the Spinel Ring satisfy my itch and make the cost ultimately worth it. Fang in particular is awesome to play as when I want a Rot and/or Battle Victory.

Personally, I found this DLC a good trade for the benefits. Still, I would buy this last in the list of Armello DLC.

What you'll get with Rivals Hero Pack DLC

Four new Heroes for each of the starting Armello Clans.
- Yordanna the Devourer is a witch that wields unique Curse spells against her enemies. Anytime she plays a Spell Card to herself, she Devours it for 1 Magic, and gets a unique Curse Spell Card at the end of her turn.
- Griotte the Butcher Baroness is a vile murdering Rat Clan leader who becomes more dangerous at night. Her Street Queen ability means that she has Affinity Clan Dice equal to the number of Trickery Cards she plays during the previous day.
- Fang the Exiled is a savage beast with the ability to decimate any enemy in his path. His Berzerker ability gives him +1 starting Rot and destroys all rolls his opponent rolled if he Slaughters (+3 attack on killing blow) them.
- Hargrave the Thunder Earl is a disgraced Rabbit Earl who has a cannon to use against his foes. His Cannoneer ability gives him the ability to fire at all creatures that move adjacent to him if he ends his turn on Plains or Mountain.
Four new Rings, one for each of the starting Armello Clans.
- Cat’s Eye – You get -1 Gold discount on your first Trickery Card played that turn (Rat Clan)
- Spinel – You get +20% chance on all Quests you take (Rabbit Clan)
- Chrysocolla – You get Scout on Heroes with 2 or less health (Wolf Clan)
- Taaffeite – +1 Shield and +1 Spirit in Forests (Bear Clan)
The new Intimidate Amulet. When you end your turn, creatures adjacent to you gain -2 Fight until the end of their next turn

1 - Sylas

Summary of Sylas

The Inigo Montoya of Armello, Sylas is guided by one goal: Revenge against the King who murdered his family. With his Butcher ability, Sylas can cut through all who oppose him and make for an interesting challenge to the throne.

Sylas’ Strengths

Sylas’ starting 3 Spirit and Wits combined with high Fight and Body means he’s more adaptable than other Heroes. Completing a Spirit Quest doesn’t become a necessity for Sylas.

His Butcher ability makes King’s Guards an annoyance more than a threat. Butcher also means that you get Attack without items which means you save more Gold.

On that note, he lives longer than most Heroes because of his 5 Fight and Body. It is harder to kill a Hero with those kinds of stats.

Opinion and Analysis

Sylas is my favorite Hero to play as. Not just because he’s an otter, but also because he can defeat most enemies and brings a challenge to the game that spices it up.

His Butcher ability makes him stronger while also painting a huge target on him. However, this is a trade worth making if you want extra attack.

The Wanted status means everyone will want to kill you. However, short of Spell and Trickery Cards, it’ll be hard to kill you in battle. This gives you some advantages.

Additionally, he’s fun to play since you have the challenge of staying alive while also dealing out death to the King’s Guards. If you want a game where they’re easier to kill, Sylas is the otter you’re looking for.

Advice and Information

Balancing his being Wanted with survival Item cards is key to victory. Build up his defense and Fight.

You need armor items to succeed with Sylas. Getting Item or Treasure Cards, like Helm of Heroes, Tower Shield, and Leather Armor early is a must! +3 Armor plus his Butcher stacks means a 95% chance he survives any battle.
Pick Serendibite as your ring. It is the only way to make his ability any use since it gets Gold from King’s Guards after you kill them. And killing King’s Guards is basically all that Sylas does.
For Amulets, Resist and Think are the best options. Resist is for more survival-oriented players and Think is for if you want more cards choices early. I personally go for Think as it gives me more options for Cards and Quests.
If you get the Bounty Trickery Card, play it to yourself when you can. You have to build Butcher stacks as soon as you can since it takes a full day/night cycle to upgrade your wanted status.
Best way to build Butcher stacks quickly is to kill a King’s Guard, and then play Bounty to yourself. That makes 2 stacks of Butcher in one turn.
For Quests, get at least 1 Wit Quest to give you more Item and Spell Card choices. After that, at least 1 of both Fight and Body Quests. Then you’ll have enough strength to kill the King and anyone else for that matter.
Watch your health. If you get dangerously low on it, find a Stone Circle to heal up and/or play healing consumables to yourself as soon as you can. The last thing you want is to get killed by a Sharpshooter and give someone a Prestige Victory.

Why Sylas Is Great

He ups the ante on gameplay, making it more interesting to play. Unlike most Heroes, Sylas makes the game more tense and fun as a side effect!
Sylas’ Butcher ability means he can save money on buying attack items. He can build defense items without needing to worry about getting a sword or two.
Butcher also means that King’s Guards become little more than nags. This makes the game a little less stressful.
He can build his Spirit and Wits more easily than most other Heroes since they both start at 3. Perils also become evenly difficult because of this too.
His Fight, Body, and Butcher means he’s strong in combat. This comes in handy against the likes of Fang, Agniya, Brun, and others.
His background story is more compelling than most other Heroes. Seriously, a revenge story like his is better than “Ooh, nice throne, I’m gonna kill you for it!”

Choose Sylas if...

You want King’s Guards and the King himself to be easier to kill. Butcher makes for great combat power.
On a similar note, if you want a Fight-oriented Hero who’s also more balanced, Sylas is perfect for that. His Wits and Spirit are enough to build on and grow more powerful.
You want an easier Rot victory. Butcher combined with a Corrupted Sylas makes for an easy victory against the King and Banes.
You want to play an otter with a compelling backstory to kill the King. Or you just want to play an otter in general.

Sylas Power Rating: 90/100

2 - Elyssia

Summary of Elyssia

A famed rabbit architect, Elyssia has little to fight with but her Wits and measuring stick. Still, her cunning and strategic use of Settlements makes her formidable and a good choice for victory.

Elyssia’s Strengths

Elyssia is strong in building gold and playing Trickery Cards. She gets more Gold from Settlements that she holds as well as the reduction in Trickery card cost.

Fortified Settlements are also your business since you can secure them. This means you can hold onto them for longer.

Elyssia is surprisingly able to hold her own in fights. Despite only having 3 Fight, her 5 Wits can mean lots of good Cards to burn in battle as well as finding good items to equip.

Finally, Elyssia is good at escaping most Perils, particularly during the day. Her 5 Wits and 3 Spirit means she has a great shot at defeating those Mercenaries.

Opinion and Analysis

Elyssia has a certain adaptability that other Heroes lack. I find this is more because she gets Gold easier than most other Heroes. Seriously, it can be tiring losing your Settlement 4 turns in a row.

Also, she can complete most Quests more easily than most Heroes with Spinel combining with her stats. This means she has a higher chance of getting extra rewards.

While she isn’t as strong in combat as Sylas, Fang, or others, she’s nonetheless able to hold her own in fights, particularly in Fortified Settlements. Playing the smart game means she’ll survive longer.

I find her great because she can adapt to situations and can turn the board to her advantage. Having those Settlements and the Trickery discount can do that for you!

Advice and Information

Getting and keeping Settlements while building up your fight is paramount to winning with Elyssia.

Stop at every Settlement you cross and fortify it. Yes, it can be a chore. But it’s worth it in the long run.
Get 1 armor and attack Item Card each to keep Elyssia alive until you get enough Fight to survive. After that, the Lord’s Specter and Spyglass are perfect items for Elyssia.
When playing Elyssia, I always pick Scratch as my Amulet. 5-6 Fight is easier to achieve as well as most other Quests.
For any Rabbit I play now, I always pick Spinel. The +20% increase of success for your Quests means you’ll get more rewards basically all the time.
Elyssia in particular benefits from more Quest rewards. Using Spinel means greater chances of Companion and Treasure cards that can beef her up in combat.
While talking about Quests, complete at least 2 Fight Quests if possible. After that, complete at least 1 of both Body and Wits Quests.
Once she has 1-2 Settlements under her belt, Trickery Cards become an asset. Play Trickery cards to shore up your Settlements. You gotta have some kind of Settlement insurance.
The best Trickery Cards to play to your captured and Fortified Settlements are the following: Welcoming Party, Mercenaries, Patronage and Industry, and Sharpshooter.
Play a Cursed Lands or Agent of Misfortune to your Peril-ridden Settlements to make doubly sure your enemies pay for stealing them from you.
I’ve found that Corrupted Elyssia is surprisingly powerful. If you’re steering for a Rot victory with her, go for it!

Why Elyssia Is Great

Settlements become little bastions for you to control. They’re also safe spaces for you to go when everyone’s after you.
She has a larger choice of Cards with her 5 Wits. This becomes even better if you get Quests or Item Cards that increase your Wits.
Perils become easier to face with 5 Wits and 3 Spirit. This is truer in the daylight with her Day Affinity.
Money also becomes easier to gain with her ability since the Settlements are easier to keep. You won’t have to worry as much about getting Gold with her around.

Choose Elyssia if...

You want an easier time with Perils. Most of them are from Trickery cards which are dealt with by Wits.
You want to get more gold in your game. Settlement retention is significantly better when they’re fortified.
You want a larger hand and thus more Card choices. Having 5 Wits means you have a higher chance of finding the cards you want to find.
You want survivability and security. Her 5 Body plus her fortified Settlements, means Elyssia lives a little longer than most Heroes.

Elyssia Power Rating: 74/100

3 - Fang

Summary of Fang

The savage monster with a howl that shakes the world, Fang is the exiled heir to the Wolf throne. With his Berzerker ability at his command and high Fight stats, Fang can tear apart his foes with ease.

Fang’s Strengths

Fang is the only Hero that starts with 6 Fight. That means he’s more than a match for any other Hero, including Thane. This becomes evident at night with his Night Affinity.

His starting 1 Rot makes taking the Corrupted path simpler. He can build up his Rot earlier to become the Corrupted destroyer he’s destined to be.

5 Body with Berzerker means he can survive most encounters. This also means he can live longer in the game.

Opinion and Analysis

Want a Rot victory? Fang is your wolf, since he has 1 Rot to start with. I often pick him for those victories.

Without fail, Fang beats most Heroes in terms of combat. However, if other players build armor up, killing them and/or triggering Berzerker becomes harder. Also, your RNG might decide you’re not Berzerking and not roll enough attack to trigger it.

Fang can be a little squishy, but he’s also dangerous. While he’s hard to beat when attacking, his Berzerker doesn’t trigger when he’s defending. You have to commit to the violent path if you want to master Fang.

Fortunately, I’m fine with Fang’s particular sort of attack and commit to the Rotten path. If you want a Hero who dominates fights like no other, Fang is your choice.

Advice and Information

Build up your attack! Fang needs the extra attack items to guarantee that his Berzerker goes off. Going full attack is the best strategy with Fang.

Get the Heavy Flail, Bastard Sword, or War Hammer as soon as you can.
Find and equip 1 good armor item. The Tower Shield and Chainmail Armor are the best options. After you have your Item Cards, you’re good to go.
Opting for the Corrupted path? Chose the Ruin or Spoil Amulets. They’ll help build up Rot quickly so you can choose those Rot Quests.
I personally pick Spoil every time. It just makes it easier after that since I only need a Bane Blade or a self-played Plague to be Corrupted.
However, if you don’t want a Rot Victory, get the Grow Amulet. It’ll counter the -1 health you get at dawn from the Rot.
For your Quests, finish a Spirit quest as soon as can be. You’ll need 3 Spirit to use cards like Evil Eye and Teleport. Get Body, Wits, and Rot Quests after that.
I always choose Rubellite as my ring because it guarantees that I’m invincible in battle. However, Onyx makes sure you’ll be able to buy more items. In the end, it’s your choice.
Keep an eye on your health! That Rot attrition damage can be a real pain (literally!). Avoid swamps.
If you’re after a Rot Victory, find and play as many Rot Cards as you can. Leech, Call of the Worm, and Plague are the primary ways of getting Rot from Cards and those are all in the Spell Card deck.

Why Fang Is Great

His high combat effectiveness means he can dominate most Heroes, even ones like Thane and Sylas.
His starting Rot means that Rot Victories become easier to achieve with him. Also, it means he can get an advantage over other Infected Heroes quicker than they with him. Unless they’re Dragon Clan Heroes, but you’ll kill them anyway, I’m sure.
His high health also means he lives for longer in the game. Yes, there’s some attrition with the Rot, but that’s easily managed.

Choose Fang if...

You want a Rot victory. His starting Rot gives a running start down the Corrupted path. It also makes farming Banes a lot easier.
You want an easier Battle Victory. His Berzerker ability means he can tear through the King’s retaliation with relative ease.
You want a combat oriented Hero for your game. Fang can be particularly deadly against weaker Heroes which means an easier time for you.

Fang Power Rating: 83/100

4 - Nazar

Summary of Nazar

The maniac himself, Nazar has a lot of slippery uses for his Illusions. Play him right, and this lizard will win every game, every time!

Nazar’s Strengths

He is the most well-rounded of any Armello Hero. Nazar has 4 of every stat which means he can complete any kind of Quest with higher chance of getting another reward.

He can also improve any area that he wants. If he wants more Fight and/or Spirit, he can take that path confidently.

Also, his Illusions can be used for more purposes than just deceiving his enemies. In fact, Nazar can even take out Perils with his Illusions! Except Palace Perils of course.

Having +1 dice than most Perils means he also can get out of those more easily. He doesn’t even need his Illusions.

Finally, his affinity to the Rot makes the Corrupted path an easier one to tread. Taking no damage from morning Rot and stealing his more Corrupted opponents advantage gives Nazar an edge.

Opinion and Analysis

Nazar is a favorite because he’s just so fun with his balanced stats and Illusions. Seriously, it’s great taking out Perils with those things!

He also makes it easier for me to adapt to the shifting winds of the game. If I need to, I can adjust my Victory path to the one the game is pushing me towards.

His ability to conquer most Perils and Quests makes the game easier. And I’m personally all for having an easier time in Armello as well as having fun. If you want an adaptable, slippery little Hero, Nazar is your gecko.

Advice and Information

Nazar’s Illusions are the greatest asset to your play, so know how you can use them. Also, picking good Cards and Quests is key to winning as Nazar.

Perils always costs a movement to play one. This means you’ll have to pick whether to endure a Peril or sacrifice one move to take it out with your Illusion.
Also, Illusions don’t take damage from swamps, don’t have forest stealth at night, and don’t roll dungeons. Know this so that you can play your Illusions to properly fool your enemies.
For example, if you’re one health and play an Illusion to a swamp, it’ll become obvious which of you is the real deal. Play your Illusions wisely, and no one will be able to lay a hand on you.
Which Amulet you pick is up to you, depending on what you prefer to play as. Like staying alive? Pick the Soak Amulet as I often do.
Wanting a more flexible game? Resist or Watch are your best options as they help deal with Perils and battles.
Pick the Axinite or Sulfur Rings for Nazar. Axinite is good for battle and survivability in that area.
If you want to make the most of your Illusions, pick Sulfur. When you enter a swamp after casting an Illusion, no one can tell which is the real you. Also, it makes sure you retain some of your 4 health.
Pick the Quests that best suit the victory you’re going for. You have a 40-60/50-50 shot at any Quest you take on, since you have 4 starting stats in every field.
Speaking of Quests, complete at least one Body Quest to keep up your survivability. After that 1 Spirit Quest and 1 Fight Quest are what I go for next in terms of Quests.

Why Nazar Is Great

Nazar can take out Perils with his Illusions which is a pretty cool perk.
Even if he cannot use his Illusions for Peril-busting, his 4 Spirit and Wits means he can defeat most Perils anyway.
His balanced 4 of every stat means he has a higher chance at beating whatever Quest he goes on. This also means he has an easier time for Spirit Stone Victories.
He’s harder to keep track of than most Heroes if his Illusions are played right. They’ll never know which is you until you move.

Choose Nazar if...

You want Perils to become basically a non-issue. 4 Wits, 4 Spirit, and taking out Perils with Illusions is a pretty good deal.
You want to play mind games with you enemies. You become harder to track when there’s two of you.
You want a fairer shot at Quests. His starting 4 of every stat means you can choose whichever path you want and have a decent shot at an extra reward.
You want an easier Rot Victory. Nazar’s Rot Affinity combined with his better Quest completion means he can get Corrupted faster and easier.

5 - Volodar

Summary of Volodar

The prophet of the Rot, Volodar packs some hidden strength with his bell, Wits, and Enthrall ability. Properly played, Volodar can vanquish the King and bring a new age of Rot to Armello.

Volodar’s Strengths

Volodar’s Enthrall ability makes him virtually safe from Banes. They become his personal sentries about the map which can make it safer for him to wander.

He has a high Spirit pool which equals a lot of Spell Card playing. Also, he can use more powerful spells like Lightning Strike, Banish, and Dark Influence without needing another Spirit Quest.

The Corrupted path is a more viable options with his 5 Spirit and his Rot Affinity. Both mean he can play Rot Spell Cards more often.

His 4 Wits and 5 Spirit stats give him an edge over Perils which will make for an easier time in Armello. This also means he has an easier time sorting through Cards.

Opinion and Analysis

His Enthrall ability alone makes him pretty cool. When you don’t have to worry about the Bane next to you, that’s a good feeling.

Also, as mentioned above, Volodar is more suited to surviving Perils with his high Wits and Spirit pools. Combine that with Enthrall makes for an easier game.

Easier, but not easy as he is still weak, combat-wise. Nonetheless, his spellcasting potential makes up for this. A Mirror Image or Feral played right makes him more battle-ready.

Volodar is a good choice for a Rot Victory, and I often pick him for that. However, I’ve also found that he’s great for surviving the game. This is mainly due to him casting the powerful spells such as Lightning Strike and Syphon.

You want to play a Hero with great spell casting combined with a penchant for Rot? Volodar is the dragon you’re looking for.

Advice and Information

Using Banes and increasing Volodar's fights are the best way for him. Fix those and capitalize on his spell casting to win the game.

After an Enthralled Bane attacks a character, they stop being Enthralled and move about freely. You’ll have to “ReEnthrall” them later. (Is that even a term?)
Move or spawn Banes to protect you when you can. For example, if you have Cub’s Blood and another player is after you, play the Cub’s Blood between you two.
While your Rot can buff you up, you need to build at least +2 Fight to increase your survivability. It also increases your chances to beat Banes and the King.
After completing 2 Fight Quests, focus on Wits and Spirit Quests. This’ll make sure you have extra rewards as well as more cards to play/burn.
For your Rings, Tremolite is an excellent choice for Rot Victories. Get the Spoil Amulet for maximum efficiency with this Ring. It’ll make sure that you get a definite advantage against any Heroes who unwisely choose to fight you after standing next to you.
Another good Ring choice is Sulfur as it will keep Volodar alive as he builds his Rot. Scratch is the Amulet you want. It’ll help push up Volodar’s faltering Fight.
Get at least +2 armor from your items to protect Volodar. Tower shield and an Oak Spear would be the best picks.
Avoid fights as much as you can, since Volodar is so weak. Fortunately, his Enthralled Banes make staying out of fights a little easier.

Why Volodar Is Great

Banes become less of a threat to you and even your personal bodyguards! Considering no one else will really help you in Armello, that’s a good thing to have.
Perils are easier to face with him as he has 4 Wits and 5 Spirit. Many other Heroes don’t have this benefit.
On the note of Spirit, he can cast powerful Spell Cards such as Dark Influence and Lightning Strike both of which can be a great aid.
He can achieve the Rot Victory more easily. His Rot Affinity gives him Rot damage immunity and a clearer path towards corruption.

Choose Volodar if...

You want to survive longer. Perils become easier to manage with his Wits and Spirit.
You want to cast more Spell Cards. His 5 Spirit means he can play more Spell Cards such as Mirror Image and Shimmer Shield.
You want Banes to become your guard instead of your enemies. Seriously it can become a really good perk.
You want an easier path to a Rot Victory. His Rot Affinity makes having and getting Rot an easier task than for most Heroes.

6 - Barnaby

Summary of Barnaby

Equipped with a hammer, backpack, and a freaking grapple gauntlet, Barnaby has a lot of versatility and battle potential. Master his swapping out of Item Cards and you’ll dominate any quest or challenge Armello can throw at you!

Barnaby’s Strengths

Barnaby can adjust to any and all situations, as long as he has the right items. Having enough Wits for 4 extra Item Cards means that he can swap between, if your hand has only Item Cards, 7 items.

Also, Barnaby has a lot of health (6 Body points) which means he can take some punishment. It also means he can survive most battles unless his foes get lucky.

Finally, most Perils, at least from the Trickery Cards, are easy to conquer for Barnaby. This is particularly true in the daytime.

Opinion and Analysis

Barnaby’s Tinkerer ability is key to his gameplay and to his success. It makes him able to adapt to basically anything that comes along.

That alone endears Barnaby to me. But also, he’s surprisingly strong in combat with 4 Fight and 6 Body. Combine that with good Item Card choices and he can win any war.

However, while Tinkerer is amazing, it also takes time to get used to and to master. Patience is required when you play him. It took me some time to get used to my items not disappearing.

Nonetheless, Barnaby is worth the patience to master his ability. He becomes able to face any challenge and to beat any foe, including the King.

Advice and Information

Purchasing the right Item Cards key to your victory. Increase your Wits and Fight to get those Items and win the game.

Look at what the other players have in their inventory before attacking. Then fix your loadout accordingly.
Save some utility Item Cards, like Sailor’s Lantern and/or Adventurer’s Kit, for wandering around. These will help when you need to beat Perils.
For your Quests, complete at least 2 Wits and 1 Fight Quest. Also, complete a Spirit Quest to push Barnaby’s Spirit to 3. Until then, you won’t be able to cast most spells in the Spell Deck.
For Amulets, it’s a tossup between the Feel and Think Amulets. The Feel Amulet means you can cast many of the game’s Spell Cards earlier than normal. Yet, the Think Amulet means more early choices for Item Cards and loadout changes.
For me, I always pick the Feel Amulet. It’s easier to focus on your Wits and Fight rather than wasting time for 1 Spirit Quest.
For any Rabbit Clan Hero I play, I always pick Spinel. A +20% increase of success for Quests is a pretty good deal.
However, if you want more Gold to get more Item Cards, equip Pink Topaz or Rainbow Quartz. Rainbow Quartz would be better as it’s a guaranteed +1 Gold at dawn. But, if you’re confident you can hold your Settlements, get the Pink Topaz.
Discard any Cards you don’t need. Burn them in battle or in Perils. You need to have the right Item Cards in your hand to succeed.

Why Barnaby Is Great

He can swap out items based on his current situation. He can go from all armor to Peril survival mode in a turn. That makes him hard to beat and easy to win.
His high Body pool means he can tank damage. This means you live a lot longer than other Heroes.
You can keep your good Item Cards and just swap them out if you need to! No longer do you need to endure the gut-wrenching pain of discarding that Chainmail Shirt for a Sailor’s Lantern.

Choose Barnaby if...

You want to survive longer. His high Body stats means he can take more damage.
You want a challenge to your gameplay. Barnaby is a little hard to master at first. Yet, his flexibility pays off when you know how to wield it.
You want to be more fortified in battle. His Body, Fight, and item-swapping makes for an excellent combination against most Heroes.

7 - Twiss

Summary of Twiss

The famed thief of Armello, Twiss avoids battle and Perils more than a vampire does sunlight. This gives her a unique advantage that, when properly played, leads to an easy victory.

Twiss’ Strengths

Avoiding confrontations, which is a plus for Twiss. She can stay alive long enough to complete her Quests and get Prestige or Rot.

Spellcasting is also a strong plus of Twiss. Her high Wits pool along with 4 Spirit means she can play many Spell Cards.

She also can defeat Perils more easily because of her Wits and Spirit. This can be helpful if there are more Perils out than the usual allowed.

She’s also unusually good at getting Rot Victories. The extra power from being Corrupted works well with her high Spirit.

Opinion and Analysis

Her slipperiness alone makes Twiss great. She can avoid the fights that other Heroes struggle to survive from.

Also, she can play many Spell Cards to make completing Quests easier and/or getting to Corrupted status easier. This gives her an advantage over Fight-oriented Heroes and even many weaker Heroes.

I play Twiss when I want an easier time roaming the map. Her Pickpocket ability, combined with her high Wits and Spirit pool make playing the game a lot safer.

True, she’s not great at combat which means it can be bad facing the King. However, a few good items combined with a Fight Quest or two and that problem fades away.

If you want a safer game with a higher chance of a Prestige or Rot Victory, pick this squirrely Hero.

Advice and Information

Avoiding battle while getting Prestige and/or finishing Quests is key. Get enough attack to kill while picking your fights carefully.

Don’t fight anyone unless you absolutely need to, or if it is against the King. Your Pickpocket ability will make sure you have a good chance of escaping most people’s attacks against you.
Speaking of Pickpocket, it doesn’t work in the Castle. Thus, you should enter it during the day so that none of the King’s Guards will attack you. Then, assuming you’re still there, you’ll have a fighting chance against the King.
For Quests, complete 1 of both Fight and Body Quests to increase your survivability. After that, 1 Wits Quest is all that you need to ensure victory.
If you want a Corrupted Twiss, be on the lookout for Rot Quests after you’re Corrupted. Preferably, you’ll want Wits or Spirit Rot Quests. Also play as many Rot Spell Cards as you can to build up your power.
For your items, Tower Shield, Oak Spear and Hare’s Halberd would be the best Items for Twiss. Having at least one of both attack and armor items means Twiss can evade attacks.
The best Ring for Twiss is the Celestite Ring. Mountains become easier to cross and thus, the game also becomes easier to play.
The best Amulets I’ve found for playing Twiss are Watch and/or Feel. Watch is better if you want survivability. Feel is better if you want to cast more spells or the more powerful spells like Lightning Strike.
Burn through your unwanted Cards to find ones that will help you complete Quests. If you have cards you don’t want, use them in a Peril. You have a high chance of getting out of those.

Why Twiss Is Great

She can live longer than most. Only spell and Trickery cards can definitely hurt her since she has Evade practically everywhere.
Her large Wits and Spirit pools mean she can conquer most Perils without fear of losing, particularly at night.
She can cast more spells than many! Her 4 Spirit means she can cast Mirror Image twice, Dark Influence, or Teleport with Shimmer Shield. She’s magical as well as crafty.
Because she can live longer, Prestige Victories are more in line for her. It’s hard losing Prestige when you cannot be killed.

Choose Twiss if...

You want to deal with Perils more easily. They’re simpler to handle when she has +1-+2 die against them.
You want to reach Corrupted status quicker. Her high Wits and Spirit means she can get Rot cards more easily and play them more often.
You want an easier game when surviving. Twiss’ Pickpocket ability makes her harder to hurt and harder to kill. Keep running, little squirrel!

Twiss Power Rating: 76/100

8 - Thane

Summary of Thane

The original Fight-strong Hero, Thane brings his sword and piercing ability in the battle for the throne. If you want a more straightforward, battle-oriented Hero, Thane will gladly carry you to victory.

Thane’s Strengths

Thane’s 5 Body and 5 Fight make him likely to beat any Hero he encounters. That and his sword-piercing ability is a nice addition as well.

His high Health also means that he can stay alive for longer than most Heroes. Particularly since he doesn’t share Fang’s connection to the Rot.

Along with the Fight, Thane also has 3 Spirit which makes him, unlike most other Fight oriented Heroes, able to play more Spell Cards. This means Spell Cards like Focus, Teleport, and Evil Eye are accessible to him in the early game.

Opinion and Analysis

Thane, as mentioned before, is simpler for combat. Yet, he also has the advantage of casting most Spell Cards.

Thane is great to play as when I want a fighter that also can play most Spell Cards. His 3 Spirit and Wits means he can grow more versatile in those areas.

Personally, I play Thane when I want to fight, but not necessarily want to have a Rot victory. Thane can easier get a Battle Victory or even just live out the Prestige victory if he’s played right.

Indeed, Thane is one of the best Heroes for a Prestige and/or King Slayer Victory.

Advice and Information

His ability is key to Thane's ability to farm Prestige and win battles. Getting more Wits and Fight will be needed to succeed.

Increase your Wits as soon as possible. Without sword cards, you cannot use Thane’s ability. Thus, you should complete at least 2 Wits Quests to build up your piercing power.
Along with those Two Wits Quests, complete at least 1 Body and 1 Fight Quest. Or you can instead do 2 Spirit Quests if you want to add spellcasting to Thane’s skills.
For Items, get two armor Item Cards. +3 armor is a boon to any Hero. This is particularly true for one who can Pierce the armor of his enemies.
Pick Think as your Amulet for Thane. More Wits means more sword Cards to get your point across. However, Grow is a good Amulet if you want survival.
With wolves, I always pick Rubellite as my Ring. For Thane, he becomes virtually unconquerable in a fight. Nonetheless, Celestite is another good Ring to use when playing Thane.
Always have at least one sword Card in your hand to play in battle. Use them wisely against your enemies in battle.
Burn through Cards you don’t need to make sure you can keep that 1 sword quota. If you need to discard some Cards, go into a Peril.

Why Thane Is Great

His ability combined with his 5 Fight means that Thane can get a Battle or Prestige Victory in battle with ease. Heroes and the King are significantly easier to kill.
Also, his Spirit and Wits mean that he can build up his Wits more easily without having to complete at Spirit Quest or equip a Mahogany Staff.
His Fight also means that he can take out Banes more easily if you’re going for a Rot Victory. A Corrupted Thane with swords in his hand can be dangerous for anyone.

Choose Thane if...

You want a simpler game. His ability isn’t that complicated and also makes taking out the King and other Heroes simpler.
You want survivability. Thane’s 5 Body and Fight means that he can survive most encounters without breaking a sweat.
You want to play most of the game’s Spell Cards while being able to fight. Having 3 Spirit combines well when you can use brawn to back it up.

Thane Power Rating: 78/100

9 – Horace

Summary of Horace

A knight and poet, Horace brings his axe and friendship with the King’s Guards to bear in the quest for the throne. With proper playing and good maneuvering, Horace can win any fight and achieve any Victory.

Horace’s Strengths

Horace’s 9th Knight ability means he can swap places with King’s Guards. This alone makes him more powerful, movement-wise, than most Heroes.

He can also beat most Heroes since he has 6 Body and 5 Fight. It also means he has a better shot at a King Slayer Victory with minimal risk.

He can also survive for longer with 6 Body. That’s a lot of health to bring down for any Hero, particularly one friendly with King’s Guards.

Opinion and Analysis

I’ve always loved knights and Redwall. Horace is basically an epic combination of a knight and a Badger Lord which makes him a favorite.

Along with that, his ability to swap with King’s Guards is a huge benefit to your game. It makes wandering the map a little easier. This is especially true if you have the Celestite Ring equipped.

His ability to survive battle and beat most Heroes is balanced by his 2 starting Spirit.

Personally, I love to play Horace when I’m feeling in a noble mood and when I want to not attack King’s Guards. It’s great knowing that I can swap places with them and feel more secure around them.

Advice and Information

If you want to win as Horace, make the most of his combat abilities and 9th Knight ability. Improving those will secure victory for you.

Use your 9th Knight ability to move around and to block other players if possible. For example, you can swap with a King’s Guard to block another player’s Quest or to guard a Settlement you captured.
Complete a Spirit Quest as soon as you can. Spells like Evil Eye and Teleport will be available to play after that. Then complete 1 Fight and 1 Body Quest to make sure you can kill the King.
As I mentioned above, get the Celestite Ring for more mobility. His Ability combines well with this Ring.
For me, I always pick the Feel Amulet to save me completing one Quest for his Spirit. Alternatively, pick Favor to increase your chances of picking what the King’s Declaration will be. Your 9th Knight ability becomes useless if you have a Bounty.
If you can, get the Royal Pardon Treasure Card. With that, you can never have to worry about losing your ability. Even if you’re about to kill the King, no Guard is going to stop you!
For items, one armor and one weapon should be enough. Apart from that, I personally would pick up one more armor just to secure my fighting odds.

Why Horace Is Great

He can swap places with King’s Guards. Seriously, that becomes a huge benefit when they’re in your way or standing on a Quest. Also, if you need to get into the castle, it becomes a little easier.
He can also survive longer than most Heroes. Horace is one of the few Heroes with 6 starting Body. This makes staying alive a lot easier for him.
His high Fight combines well with his Body to make him formidable in battle. It also makes King Slayer and Prestige Victories easier.

Choose Horace if...

You want King’s Guards to be your friends instead of your enemies. Hey, even I get tired of killing them sometimes. They’re just doing their job after all!
You want to survive. Horace has the means to live longer and to endure any battle.
You want a fighter Hero who doesn’t depend on fighting for his ability. He’s not a Fang, Thane, or Sylas. Still, that makes it better somehow.
You want Prestige or King Slayer Victories. Horace is much better for getting those purely on his starting Fight and Body.

Horace Power Rating: 75/100

10 - Zosha

The ninja of Armello, Zosha is strongest in the shadows. With good playing of her ability, Zosha can have a Victory wound up and no one could stop her.

Zosha’s strengths

Her Shadow ability means that she has greater survivability at night. After all, it’s harder to attack something that you cannot see.

Her 5 Fight also means that she’s tough to beat in battle. Along with that, it combines well with her Ambush from Shadow.

Her high Fight, Body, and Wits means that she has a higher chance at getting the extra reward from a variety of Quests than most other Heroes. This is particularly true since she can cast Evil Eye and/or Bark Skin to bolster her chances.

Opinion and Analysis

Zosha is fun to play when I want to stay hidden. Twiss is fun to avoid battle. Yet it isn’t the same as Zosha’s stealth.

Zosha gives me freedom to wander at night with relative ease. I also have a higher chance at beating Perils with her Spirit and Wits.

Nonetheless, it can be tricky navigating at night. Avoiding Perils and other ways that could reveal me prematurely can be tiring at times. Yet, it’s an acceptable risk.

If you want a Hero who can avoid battle and Spell Perils with confidence and who also has a shorter path to killing the King, Zosha is good for you.

Advice and Information

Careful picking of your fights and maximization of your ability to fight is best for Zosha. Also, using her Shadow ability carefully at night will be key.

For your Quests, maximize your Body and Fight. Complete at least 1 of both a Fight and Body Quests. After that, it’s up to you.
Don’t attack people at night unless you’re confident you can take them out. The Ambush that you get from Shadow is a powerful boon that you should use wisely. You basically get one shot.
Avoid Perils at night if you can. While you have a boost with your Night Affinity, that doesn’t mean you can just beat any Peril. And if you fail to beat a Peril, you’re exposed.
If you want to maximize your stealth abilities, get the Ranger’s Cloak and the Black Opal Ring. That makes you unable to really be seen and targeted, be it night or day.
A good Amulet is the Soak Amulet as it keeps up your health. It also means that, in the event you’re found and attacked, you’ll most likely survive the encounter.
However, I find that another useful combination for Zosha is the Think Amulet combined with the Ruby Ring. This means you have an extra edge in battle. That’s something worth using if you’re going to Ambush people a lot.

Why Zosha Is Great

The night becomes less dangerous with Zosha. Her Shadow ability makes it almost peaceful to wander about, seeking whom I’m going to Ambush next.
Her Fight, Wits, and Body make for an easier time getting extra rewards from Quests. This also makes her a great pick.
Her starting Spirit, combined with her Wits, means she can cast most spell cards and thus make navigating the night easier.
She can hold her own in battle and wreck someone’s day or night if she attacks. Having 5 Fight and Ambush at night will do that, I suppose.

Choose Zosha if...

You want to be a ninja. This is both figurative and literal as she moves invisibly at night.
You want a high-fighting Hero who doesn’t have battle-focused ability. Yes, Shadow does give you Ambush, but that doesn’t particularly count as a “fighting” ability.
You want an easier time to a Prestige and/or King Slayer Victory. 5 Fight is not that far removed from killing the King.
You want to complete Quests with less risk of getting extra goodies. A 40-60 chance is better than a 30-70 chance after all. Take it!

1. Fang

Summary of Fang

The savage wolf and, holy mother of games that howl is loud, is Fang the Exiled. With his starting Rot, high Fight and Body, and Berzerker ability, Fang is the Rot’s ruin incarnate.

Fang’s Strengths

High Fight and Body. Fang is the only Hero with 6 starting Fight. He’s powerful enough to not only compete with other Heroes, but to crush them too.

His starting 1 Rot makes going down the Corrupted path easier. Right from the start, he can build Rot until he reaches Corrupted Status.

Survivability is also a strength of sorts for him. 5 Body plus the ability to win most fights with Berzerker means he basically won’t die in battle. This, in turn, increases his chances of survival.

Opinion and Analysis

Fang is one of my favorites to play for a Rot Victory, as evidenced by his high ranking here. His stats and Ability make for easy harvesting of Banes and killing the King. Even if the King builds a lot of attack, that won’t matter if you Slaughter him.

While Fang is basically a glass cannon, he’s also pretty much the posterchild for the Corrupted path. After all, killing Banes becomes easier when you’ve got 6 Fight.

Starting with +1 Rot means that, unless you get Cleansing Wyld, you’re stuck on that path. It’s not that far until you can build enough Rot to slay Banes and the King.

A downside to Fang is health. Yes, he has 5 Body, but the Rot dawn damage can cut that down quickly. This means that intimidation and avoiding swamps are must-dos until Fang reaches Corrupted status. After that, killing gets your health back.

Ultimately, while Fang is at times difficult because of his ability to lose health over time, he’s also best for a Rot Victory. Careful playing of him and quickly getting Rot means victory for you.

Advice and Information

Building up your attack and Rot early is paramount to Fang. Have a lot of attack items and you'll become Corrupted before you know it.

Complete 1 Spirit Quest somewhere down the line. Most of the spells that could buff Fang up, like Evil Eye, Focus, and Haste cost 3 magic. If you want an easier game, getting up to 3 Spirit is necessary.
After that, focus on Rot Quests. If you’re not Corrupted at that point, focus on Body and Fight Quests.
Get to Corrupted status as soon as possible. Burn through your Cards to get Rot Cards and play them. The sooner you become Corrupted, the sooner you can start harvesting Banes.
After you get Corrupted, kill as many Banes as you can. 9-10 Rot is enough to guarantee that you can kill the King.
For Item Cards, go all out on attack items. Fang is one of the few Heroes who one can safely build only attack. Best items would be the following: Bastard Sword, Heavy Flail, Shining Silver Sword, Marauder’s Gauntlets, and Poisoned Dagger.
For Amulets, I always pick Spoil as it makes it only a Bane Blade or Reaper’s Trident away from Corrupted. However, Ruin can also work well if you’re willing to wait a little to be Corrupted.
For your Ring, I pick Rubellite. Fang’s losing health from starting Rot combines well with this Ring’s giving +3 Fight at 3 Body. He’s basically unkillable at that point.

Why Fang Is Great for Rot

He starts with +1 Rot. That saves you one step towards the Corrupted path and starts you on it. So, it’s basically a no-brainer.
His high Fight pool along with Berzerker makes killing Banes so much easier. Even if they have higher Rot than you, enough damage will make it obsolete.
Along with Bane-farming, Fang can defeat most other Heroes as well. Being Corrupted gives Fang his power to regain health and tear everyone apart.
Killing the King becomes a cakewalk with a Corrupted Fang. Even if the King steals away most of your dice, you can deal enough damage to prevent him taking you down with him.

Choose Fang Name if...

You want an easier time harvesting Banes. Berzerker is deadly against them and makes for easy farming of their Rot.
You want to kill everyone in your path. It can become addicting to trigger the Berzerker and hear the roar thunder in your eardrums.
You want a Hero who’s stronger in battle. Many Heroes choose Rot to get stronger, but Fang’s already strong. Follow the Corrupted path to the end.

Fang Power Rating: 90/100

2. Agniya

Summary of Agniya

Towering over other Heroes, Agniya has lived for many years in the Rot’s service. With her Consecrate ability, and Rot Affinity, Agniya is the Rot’s vessel to end the King’s reign.

Agniya’s Strengths

Survivability is a high point for Agniya. With 6 Body and Consecrate’s healing for 2 turns, Agniya keeps alive basically the entire game.

Her Rot Affinity means she’s more partial to the Corrupted path than most. She also is on more even footing with Heroes with more Rot than her.

Finally, Agniya’s Wits and Spirit are high enough to cast most Spell Cards and to be built up. Only 1 or 2 Spirit Quests and she can play the higher cost Spells Cards like Dark Influence and Lightning Strike.

Opinion and Analysis

As mentioned above, her Rot Affinity means she doesn’t take Rot dawn damage. This alone makes her one of my best choices for Rot. It can get annoying keeping an eye on your health while trying to get Corrupted.

Additionally, her Consecrate combos with a Corrupted Hero’s ability to get +1 health back from a kill. Thus, she can basically kill anyone, including the King. That is, if she has enough Fight.

4 Fight, while better than most Heroes, means Agniya is slightly weaker than Banes, especially at Night. Thus, unless you get really lucky and get 5-6 Rot early, you’ll have to wait to fight Banes until later in the game.

Yet, the wait is worth it since Agniya’s high health maximizes Bane killing. Also, she can survive the other players’ attacks with her high Body. When she becomes Corrupted, she’s nigh unstoppable.

Expert advice and Information

Grow your Fight to fully use her ability. Also, more Fight and Wits means easier harvesting of Banes and gaining Rot.

Pick your fights carefully. If you need to restore some health, find a low Fight and/or low health creature to kill.
Attack Banes if you’re confident you’ll either die or survive with enough health to benefit from Consecrate next turn.
On that note, remember that Consecrate restores your health the turn after you kill something. If you kill something to restore health, get to safety.
For Quests, complete at least 1 Wits Quest and 1 Fight Quest. After that, follow the Rot Quests.
Agniya needs at least 5 Fight to be able to take on Banes and King’s Guards if need be. Unless you pick Scratch as your Amulet, complete at least 1 Fight Quest to make the most out of Consecrate.
On the subject of Amulets, if you want to build Rot Quickly, Ruin or Spoil are your best choices. I opt for Ruin as it becomes pretty simple to get Rot from there.
For the Ring, I pick Sulfur to walk through swamps safely. However, Axinite is excellent for making the most out of Consecrate. It’ll help you defeat any enemies that want you dead before Consecrate heals you.

Why Agniya is Great for Rot

The Dragon Clan’s Rot Affinity makes them automatically good choices for going down the Corrupted path. No Rot damage and a disadvantage against those who have more Rot than you is a plus for you.
Her Consecrate ability pairs well with Corrupted Hero’s ability to take health from fallen opponents. This means she’s immortal and can live long enough to become Corrupted and the new Queen.
Along with Consecrate, her 6 Body points lets her live long enough to gain Rot. Other Heroes and Banes may try to kill you. But Agniya will stay alive easier for you.

Choose Agniya if...

You want survivability. Both her Consecrate ability and 6 Body pool, allow her to live longer to become Corrupted.
You want the Corrupted path without hurting from it. Her Dragon Clan Affinity means she doesn’t take damage from dawn Rot. Also, even if she has less Rot than Banes, they’re not as strong.
You want the potential for Spell Card casting along with living long. Agniya can grow into a powerful spellcaster and still fight with her paddle.

Agniya Power Rating: 84/100

3. Volodar

With a magic bell and the ability to control Banes, Volodar heralds the return of the Dragon Clan to Armello. His Enthrall ability combined with spellcasting and Rot Affinity makes Volodar a perfect host for the Rot.

Volodar’s Strengths

Volodar is essentially safe from Banes as his Enthrall ability makes them aggressive to all, but him. They become his sentry units.

His high Spirit pool means a lot of potential Spell Card playing. Also, he can use more powerful Spells like Lightning Strike, Banish, and Dark Influence.

His Rot Affinity means he won’t take damage from morning Rot damage. Thus, the Corrupted path becomes a less dangerous option for him.

His 4 Wits and 5 Spirit stats give him an edge over Perils which makes for an easier time in Armello. Simpler to find and play Rot Cards to play as well.

Opinion and Analysis

Like Agniya, Volodar being from the Dragon Clan means he’s a go-to for Rot. Also, unlike Agniya, he’s better for casting Spell Cards.

I often pick Volodar for that reason. The best ways to quickly get Rot are Syphon and Dark Influence, both high-cost spell cards. Thus, having a 5 Spirit pool Hero like Volodar is a plus for those seeking corruption.

That, plus his Rot Affinity means I have an easier time surviving the Corrupted Path. Still, his lack of Fight means I have to avoid fights a lot. Still, Enthralled Banes make for decent security.

Also, he can cast spells like Mirror Image and/or Feral twice if need be. This reasonable compensates for not starting strong in combat.

Enthrall also makes hunting Banes easier in a way. While they won’t move after you Enthrall them, they’ll wait for you to return and harvest their Rot.

Finally, his 4 Body means surviving till fully Corrupted is more difficult than for Agniya. Avoiding fights and swamps (unless you’re using the Sulfur Ring), becomes a must to stay alive. Still, this is a risk worth taking to achieve the Rot victory.

Advice and Information on Volodar

Spell Cards and Banes are the key points to Volodar's Victory. Balance those two aspects while you increase in Rot.

After an Enthralled Bane attacks a character, they stop being Enthralled. Keep this in mind as you may need to Enthrall them again later.
Move or spawn Banes to your advantage. For example, if you have Cub’s Blood and another player is after you, play the item between you two. Then end your move to Enthrall the Bane.
While your Rot strengthens you, you need to build at least +2 Fight to get enough strength to defend yourself from other Heroes. It also increases your chances to beat Banes and the King.
For your Rings, Tremolite is an obvious choice. This plus the Spoil Amulet, makes him stronger against any enemies that try to attack him next turn.
Another good Ring choice is Sulfur as it will keep Volodar alive as he builds his Rot. Which Ring you pick depends on whether you want quick Rot building or more survivability.
For your Amulets, Spoil and Decay are the best ones for the Rot path. As I mentioned above, Spoil is best. However, Decay is also good for survivability if you want more of that.
Get at least +2 armor from your Item Cards to make up for Volodar’s starting Fight pool. Tower Shield would be best as well as the Oak Spear.
If you're Prestige Leader, pick Declarations that buff Banes such as Terror Awakened and Dark Liege. Banes become more of an asset to you this way.

Why Volodar Is Great for Rot

The Dragon Clan’s Rot Affinity makes them automatically good choices for going down the Corrupted path. Volodar’s being Dragon Clan Hero means he has nothing to lose from the Corrupted path and everything to gain.
His balanced stats mean that he has a higher chance to get Rot from Rot Quests. Even if it’s a gamble, it’s one better chanced with Volodar’s stats.
Banes become less dangerous for Volodar. You can Enthrall one, get the Rot to beat them, and kill them later. Kind of like raising a turkey to eat for Thanksgiving.
Because of Volodar’s high Spirit pool, spell cards like Syphon and Dark Influence are easier to play. The path to darkness is shorter for this Dragon.

Choose Volodar if...

You want an easier time dealing with Perils. Having good Wits and Spirit stats means he can survive most Perils.
You want Banes to protect you instead of Fighting you. Enthrall makes sure that the Banes won’t attack you, but other Heroes instead.
You like playing Spell Cards. Volodar’s Spirit pool means he can cast more Spells than many. Since Spells are the main vector to Corruption, he’s an obvious choice.

Volodar Power Rating: 81/100

4. Twiss

Summary of Twiss

Small and potentially deadly to the King, Twiss can become a great champion for the Rot. High Spirit and high Wits means she can descend down the path of darkness faster than many.

What are Twiss’ strengths – Avoiding fights, which may sound bad but isn’t in Twiss’ case. She can stay alive long enough to complete her Quests. Or in your case, live long enough to show the King you’re the true master of the Rot.

Spellcasting is also a strong plus of Twiss. Her high Wits pool along with 4 Spirit means she can play many Rot spell cards. Also, she can get bonus stats from spells like Feral and Evil Eye to complete Quests.

Also, her high Spirit and Wits gives her a chance to survive most Perils. That helps when you need to get Rot.

Opinion and Analysis

The Rot can either enhance already combat strong Heroes, like Fang or in Twiss’ case, they can give an advantage. Twiss in particular can pick her conflicts better than most other Heroes.

Because she can dodge most attacks unless her opponent has Piercing weapons or abilities, Twiss can survive long times and build up her Rot while not getting killed.

Advice and Information

Building up Rot immediately is key for Twiss. Fortunately, her Pickpocket and Spirit pool can help you to corruption if properly wielded.

Save your fights against Banes and the King when you have enough Rot to take their power. Before that, avoid fights unless absolutely necessary. Twiss’ strength is in her spellcasting.
Speaking of which, burn through cards to find Rot Spell Cards. The quicker you become Corrupted, the better. If you have to get rid of Cards, get into a Peril or two.
When you attack the King, enter the castle during the day. This will make sure that you’re not attacked by King’s Guards next turn and so derail your whole plan. Also, Twiss’ Night Affinity means one extra die in combat.
For Quests, complete 1 of both Fight and Body Quests to increase your fighting chances against the King. After that, 1 Wits Quest and other Rot Quests. The more Wits you have, the higher chance you have of finding a Rot Spell or Item Card.
For a corrupted Twiss, Spoil is the best Amulet for her. You’ll want to build up your Rot as quickly as you can to become Corrupted. Her Pickpocket ability keeps you safe from most retaliation.
The best Ring to enhance Twiss’ descent is the Celestite Ring. When mountains become a non-issue, making your way to Quests and the King becomes so much easier.
For items, Tower Shield, Heavy Flail, and Hare’s Halberd/Marauder’s Gauntlets would be the best Items for Twiss. Having at least one of both attack and armor items means Twiss can evade attacks and farm Banes.

Why Twiss is Great for Rot

She can live for longer. Her Pickpocket ability means only Spell and Trickery Cards can definitely hurt her. This means she can build her Rot without much risk of dying.
Her large Wits pool means more chances of drawing Rot Cards to play. Additionally, this also means she can break into the castle early if she’s fully Corrupted early as well.
Her Spirit pool means she can cast spells like Dark Influence to further push her down her path. It also means she’s closer to playing Spell Cards like Syphon.

Choose Twiss if...

You want to avoid combat while growing stronger in mind and Rot. Her Pickpocket works everywhere except in the castle.
You want an easier time dealing with Perils. With 5 Wits and 4 Spirit, Perils are easier to face and to survive.
You want an easier path to the Rot. With high chances of drawing and playing Rot Spell Cards, she can descend into darkness like leaves in the Fall.

Twiss Power Rating: 77/100

5. Sana

Yup, you read that right! The Bear Clan Hero whose ability is purely anti-Corrupted enemies is also one of the best Rot characters. Her Priestess ability means she can destroy Banes for good, or in this case, her own descent into corruption.

Sana’s Strengths

Sana excels at playing powerful Spell Cards. She can easily cast 2 spells in a turn and not have to worry about needing much magic.

Also, her Priestess ability means she’s more powerful against Banes and the King than even other Fight oriented Heroes. Her Spirit becomes her weapon in those cases.

The high Body pool also means that Sana has more survivability than most Heroes. This comes in use when surviving Rot attrition damage. And high health is good for tanking Rot dawn damage.

Opinion and Analysis

Sana is a great spellcaster which is why I pick her if I’m in the mood for a spell-oriented game. Yet, she’s not that strong in combat. This can get frustrating, yet bearable if played correctly.

If you want to play Sana, be prepared for running and passivism. Staying alive will mean avoiding fights unless you can win them, or fighting is the only option. Only Banes and the King can be fought with a good chance of winning.

Fortunately, her Priestess ability combined with the Rot you get from being Corrupted, means those are fights you’re almost guaranteed to win. This makes a good choice down the path of Rot.

Also, her large Spirit pool means that spell cards can make up the lack of Fight. Sana isn’t high on my list unless it’s for Rot because her Spirit becomes her Fight in those cases.

Her Spirit also means she can cast the Spell Cards that quickly build Rot like Syphon and Dark Influence. These become beneficial for growing in Rot faster than the King.

Advice and Information

Staying away from fights while building Rot is Sana's main strategy. Fortunately, your Priestess ability along with high Spirit means becoming Corrupted is so much easier.

You’ll want to get and play as many Rot Spell Cards as possible. Thus, building your Wits and Spirit should be paramount to you. Sana’s starting 3 Wits means she doesn’t have as much chance of drawing a Rot Card.
Complete at least 2 Wits Quests and 1 Spirit Quest. After that, any Rot Quests relying on those, or Body should be easy for you to complete.
For Amulets, pick either Spoil or Think. If you can bear (haha) the morning Rot damage from the start, pick Spoil. If you want to continue further down the Corrupted, pick Think to get more Rot Cards earlier.
For Rings, Aquamarine has always worked well for me. It gives me an extra damage at night while not requiring much else from it. When you’re fighting Banes at night, that extra Moon helps.
Since Sana is weak in combat, avoid fighting anyone not a Bane or a King. When you get enough Rot (5-6 Rot), attack Banes to build up your corruption.
To make combat easier, buy armor items like Battle Armor and/or Leather Armor. Preferably, you’ll want 2 armor items equipped to keep you protected from attack.

Why Sana Is Great for Rot

Defeating Banes is easier with Sana’s ability. This means easier farming of their power and quicker Rot harvesting.
Killing the King also is simpler since Priestess applies to him as well. Even if you have to fight through the King’s Guards, the Rot offers you protection and strength.
Spell Cards that quickly build up your Rot, like Dark Influence and Syphon are easier to play with Sana’s high Spirit pool.
Surviving the game is easier with Sana’s 6 Body. With the Rot damage each dawn plus the potential Rot damage from the King’s Declarations, every point of health matters.

Choose Sana if...

You want to cast more Rot Spell Cards on your path. Sana’s high Spirit pool means that she’ll be playing more Spell Cards to advance her fall.
You like a twist on a character’s established path. Sana is clearly meant to be an anti-Rot Hero. Well, a little subversion of expectations doesn’t hurt that much. (Most of the time).
You like surviving the game. Sana’s high health means greater survivability down the dark path.

1. Sylas the Fisher of Souls

Summary of Sylas

Since the King killed his family for fishing the wrong fish, Sylas seeks revenge and he’ll kill every King’s Guard and Hero to do it!

His entire gameplay is having a Bounty, getting +1 attack for each Bounty stack, and not dying. It’s more dangerous playing as him than other Heroes. But it’s so fun and, if played right, a big shot at victory!

Sylas’ Strengths

Sylas is more versatile than other Heroes because of his 3 Spirit and Wits combined with high Fight and Body. He can cast most spells without sacrificing strength in battle.

Still, Sylas can be stressful to play as. Sometimes you need to scramble to avoid being at or under 3 health while being Wanted. Still, for players wanting survivability, this is a trade worth making.

Sylas is effectively an anti-King’s guard hero with his Butcher ability. Butcher also means that you get Attack without items which means you can save money on those.

His high Body and Fight means Sylas has a high chance of surviving any battle. That, and you have a 50-50 chance of getting the extra reward in Body and Fight Quests.

King’s Guards become less of a threat because of Butcher’s piercing ability towards them. Even if they kill you, they’ll go down with you. Then again that’s probably what Sylas wants.

Opinion and Analysis

Playing as Sylas is risky, but high reward if you can stay alive. You need to keep your Body above 3 if you want to keep someone from claiming your bounty. On the other hand, having +3 attack, piercing against King’s Guards, is useful for fending off those other pesky Heroes.

He’s fun to play as since his Hero ability gives the player something to keep in mind. Your opponents will have to choose whether to attack you and risk getting annihilated. This limbo offers some level of protection.

Sylas excels against other Heroes who focus on Fight as he can match and/or beat them at their game. Still, an Immolation or Lightning strike from a high Spirit Hero can ruin your game.

Tips and Advice

Success with Sylas needs some luck and armor items. Getting mostly armor items early, including Treasure items like Helm of Heroes, is a must! As long as Sylas has armor and high Body, he can dominate the board.

Having at least +3 armor from items would be preferable. Best armor items would be the following: Tower Shield, Leather Armor, Chainmail Shirt, and/or Battle Armor.
Pick Serendibite as your ring, as you get Gold for each King’s Guard you kill which is basically most of Sylas’ gameplay. Sometimes I think that Ring was added just for him.
To stay alive (the other half of Sylas’ gameplay) pick the Soak, Grow, or Resist Amulet. Those will help you survive a Sharpshooter or Lightning Strike.
If you get Bounty, play it to yourself when it’s safe, such as after you have one armor Item Card equipped. Best way to build Butcher stacks quickly is to kill a King’s Guard, and then play Bounty to yourself. 2 Butcher stacks in one turn!
For Quests, get at least 1 Wit Quest to give you more Item/Spell choices. After that, at least 1 of both Fight and Body Quests should be enough to solidify your combat strength.
For Treasures, you guessed it, pick the armor ones like Royal Shield and Helm of Heroes. Unless you’re going for a Rot Victory, then build Treasures like Reaper’s Trident and Bane Blade. A Corrupted Sylas with full Butcher stacks is basically immortal.

Sylas Pros

King’s Guards become prey because the Butcher ability pierces their armor. You can just fight them without skirting around like everyone else…as long as you don’t die!
Have enough stacks of Butcher and you can beat basically anyone. +3 swords are tough to beat, even if they aren’t piercing. Thus, you have a good chance of victory against most Heroes.
Because he has high Fight and Body stats along with 3 Spirit, Sylas has high survivability. He can use most spells without needing to complete a Spirit Quest.
Combined with the Serendibite ring, Sylas can make bank off killing King’s Guards. You don’t need Settlements as much when you can just kill a Guard or two.

Sylas Cons

Having a Bounty is also your greatest weakness as now everyone wants to kill you. And, assuming someone builds enough armor (looking at you, Barnaby) you can be taken out, regardless of Butcher stacks.
Also, Butcher makes you a huge target for a Sharpshooter and/or other damaging Spell Cards. Thus, you’ll have to stay at or above 4 Health most of the time to keep others from claiming the Bounty.
The low starting Wits means you won’t have much choice of armor and weapons. You may have to burn a lot of cards to find the ones you want.
Sylas needs more patience than other Heroes. You’ll have to wait three turns to be a certified Traitor, and most players won’t want you to reach that point. Thus, endurance is needed more.

Choose Sylas if…

If you’re an otter enthusiast (like myself), definitely give Sylas a go! He’s more violent and cruel than you may like. Think of him like an otter version of Drax the Destroyer.
You want a high-risk, high reward gameplay. Sylas can be a tough cookie and fight his way all the way to the King. You just need the guts to do it.
You want a strong fighting Hero. Sylas has enough Fight to be safe from other Heroes, but enough Wits and Spirit to be one step ahead.
Like playing the dark side? Building Sylas with Rot can be very rewarding and getting health from kills is better when you’re a Butcher.
You want an easier path to a Prestige Victory. Since, Sylas can kill other Heroes and not technically lose Prestige when killing King’s Guards, he can be Prestige Leader all game.

Sylas Power Rating: 89/100

2. Fang the Exiled

Summary of Fang

Corrupted by the Rot, Fang was sent away from his home. Still, he’s the fiercest Hero to play as and, with his Berzerker ability, he can defeat any Hero he fights…Assuming he causes enough damage for a Slaughter that is.

Fang’s Strengths

Offense and Rot. Those are the two routes Fang dominates in. Picking off weaker enemies is especially a strength of his.
You also don’t have to worry about playing nice since you can just kill whoever’s in your way.

If you hadn’t guessed it, Fang is a kill-everything-in-my-path kind of Hero. This makes it fun to play him if I want to not die from combat.

Since he starts with 1 Rot, his path to a Rot Victory is already shorter. This is great for Players who prefer that sort of Victories.

Opinion and Analysis

Fang is my go-to if I want a Rot victory kind of game. His starting with one Rot means your path is pretty much already set for that. The Spoil and Ruin Amulets become your two options for him.

Against most Heroes, Fang wins in battle. But heroes with high Spirit can be a pain because their spells can weaken Fang. Also, if other players build armor up, it becomes harder to kill them, much less trigger Berzerker.

That and also, he cannot cast most spells when starting out. This can be a bad thing and drags on your gameplay until you get +1 Spirit. While tiresome, one Spirit Quest is a minor setback that is easily remedied.

Fang is a glass cannon. While he is undefeatable when attacking, he’s easier to kill when defending. Unless you’re willing to commit to at least 2 attack items and to a lot of fighting, Fang’s not for you.

Tips and Advice

While he can crush basically anyone, Fang needs the attack to make it happen. That and you have to watch your health! Balance improving his fighting with helping his lacking Wits and Spirit.

Build at least two items that give you +1 attack. Best two items to get would be the Bastard Sword and the War Hammer.
After getting attack items, find and equip one good armor item. The Tower Shield or Chainmail Armor are best because they’ll make defending easier.
If you want the Rotten path, Ruin or Spoil are the Amulets you want. They’ll help build up Rot quickly so you can choose those Rot Quests.
However, if you don’t want to go for a Rot Victory, pick the Grow Amulet. It’ll counter the -1 health you get at dawn from the Rot.
For your Quests, finish a Spirit quest as your second Quest. You’ll need 3 Spirit to use most of the more useful spell cards. After that focus on Body, Fight, and Rot Quests.
I always choose Rubellite as my ring because it basically guarantees that I’ll win every fight. However, Onyx is great for getting enough gold to buy what you need. It’s really about whether you want to rely on skill (Rubellite) or your Item Cards (Onyx).
Keep an eye on your health! Even if you’re not going for a Rot victory, Fang’s initial corruption means you’ll lose one health every dawn. Unless you’re running Rubellite, avoid swamps if possible.

Fang Pros

High Fight and combat strength. Fang, more than even other Wolf Clan Heroes, can defeat any combatant, especially with his Berzerker ability. This makes farming Banes all the easier too.
Fight and Body Quests are easier to get bonus rewards from. If you’re lucky to get a Fight Quest that gives a Treasure like the Silver Lance or Bane Blade, take it! You’ll most likely win.
Other players will want to avoid you which is a definite plus. Between being near a killing machine and staying alive, most people choose the latter. I know I do!
Killing the King becomes much easier when you’re facing him. All you need is 4 hits, and it doesn’t matter how much attack he builds. He’s already dead.
His Berzerker howl is epic to listen to. Seriously, turn up the volume and let the roar thunder in your eardrums!

Fang Cons

Unless you’re lucky and get The Cleansing Wyld or meet the Druids early in the game, you’re basically stuck going for Rot Victories. It’s not easy being the bad guy all the time.
Because Fang has only 2 Spirit, most spells cannot be used at the start of your game. So, you’ll have to either complete one Spirit Quest or equip the Feel Amulet.
Limited Wits means limited cards. You’ll have to burn them, preferably in combat, to find Item and Spell Cards for you.
You become vulnerable when it’s not your turn. Berzerker only applies when you’re attacking, and other players can kill you when you’re not Berzerking.

Choose Fang if...

You LOVE building Rot. Fang’s starting Rot is a good foundation to go to the dark side.
You like killing other people and ruining their day. It’s fun killing other players and hearing Fang’s howl as they lose their progress.
You want survivability. Fang is more vulnerable when defending, but he’s still not weak. Even defending, you’ll be hard to kill.
You want an easier Prestige Victory. Because Fang is a wrecking ball with a howl, he can kill Heroes and Banes endlessly and build up Prestige.
You want a better shot at killing the King. It’s easier killing him when you can banish his dice like he didn’t roll anything.

3. Barnaby, Screwloose

Summary of Barnaby

The smithy of Armello, Barnaby canters around with his pack and oversized hammer. His ability, Tinkerer, and his large pool of Body and Wits makes him dangerous if played the right way.

Barnaby’s Strengths

Barnaby is great at changing to situations, as long as he has the right Item Cards. Having enough Wits for 4 extra items, he can swap between, if your hand has only Item Cards, 7 items.

Also, Barnaby has a lot of health (6 Body points) which means he can take some punishment. That, combined with his ability to swap out weapons and armor, means he could take on just about any Hero, even Fang.

Opinion and Analysis

Barnaby’s kit is unusual and takes some time getting used to. I had to play several games before I realized the true power of Barnaby’s abilities.

The biggest thing to get used to is knowing what Item Cards you want to keep and which to burn in Perils and battle. This will depend on who you’re playing against and what they’re going for. Also, the game itself will influence your moves.

For example, if you’re up against, say, Fang, Horace, or Zosha, you’ll want to build armor immediately. Against weaker Heroes, maybe a mix of armor, weapons, and miscellaneous items like the Sailor’s Lantern.

Get a variety of items for different situations so you can react to them. For instance, two armor items, one attack item, a Sailor’s Lantern, and an Adventurer's Kit are the best items to have on hand. Thus, you can swap out when the situation calls for it.

For example, say you need to encounter a Peril and then fight a Hero with high attack items. You can equip the Adventurer’s Kit and Sailor’s Lantern to see what Peril it is, and so beat it accordingly. Then, when you reach the Hero, swap out the Kit and Lantern for the armor.

Tips and Advice

Knowing which items to have for situations is key. Get a balance of item cards that are defensive and attack.

Look at what the other players are using on their heroes before attacking them. That way you’ll know to fight Brun with Hand Cannons while he has +3 armor from his Item Cards.
Concerning Quests, you need to complete at least 2 Wits and 1 Fight Quest. This gives you an extra card and more strength to fight. Also, a Spirit quest would help push up Barnaby’s Spirit deficiency (Bad rabbit!)
With Amulets, Feel or Think are the two ones you have to pick. The Feel Amulet means you don’t have to waste a Quest to cast many of the game’s Spell Cards. Yet, the Think Amulet means more early choices for Item Cards and loadout changes.
For any Rabbit I play, I always pick Spinel. The +20% increase of success for your Quests is huge and means you’ll get more rewards basically all the time.
Still, for a style more fitting Barnaby’s unique mode of insanity, either Pink Topaz or Rainbow Quartz would work. Rainbow Quartz would be better as it’s a guaranteed +1 gold at dawn. That means you can buy new stuff more easily.

Barnaby Pros

Barnaby can change his loadout and basically overcome any situation. That alone is a huge advantage.
You like your Item Cards, you can keep your Item Cards. Unless someone uses Glamour on you. In which case, you cave their face in.
Barnaby has little chance of being killed. A high health pool is not easy to beat.
His ability to overcome Wits Perils is greater than most Heroes. This makes for a less distressed game.

Barnaby Cons

Wits doesn’t mean much if you only have 2 Spirit. This limits Barnaby’s spell-casting abilities.
Playing as Barnaby can be annoying if you only get mediocre items and/or consumables. Thus, it can get annoying if the game gives you terrible RNG.
Barnaby is difficult to learn. A straightforward game isn’t really possible while playing as Barnaby. It takes time getting used to your Item Cards not vanishing when you swap them out, believe me!

Choose Barnaby if...

You like swapping loadouts like in Destiny 2. Seriously, there’s little difference in picking Whisper of the Worm against Riven and Heavy Plate Armor against the King.
You like survivability on steroids. High Body points plus choosing different Item Cards mean Barnaby has little chance of dying. Unless everyone gangs up on you, so play nice!
You want a challenging yet rewarding play. Barnaby takes time mastering, but once mastered, becomes neigh unbeatable.

4. Nazar the Maniac

Summary of Nazar

The Maniac and illusionist himself, Nazar is a loyal servant of the Rot. His powers of creating Illusions give him an edge over the other clans. With the right methods, this Hero can be the slipperiest winner of them all!

Nazar’s Strengths

Balance. Nazar can have a good choice of Cards while also having a little more Spirit to cast more lesser Spell Cards or more powerful Spell Cards.

Also, his Illusions can be useful in many areas. Including taking out all Perils except for ones in the Palace. Whaaaat!?!

Perils become easier to face since he can roll +1 dice than most Perils have. That and Quests have a larger success rate while playing Nazar.

Opinion and Analysis

Nazar is an interesting, and sometimes hard Hero to play as. His ability is simple enough, but how to use it is the issue. How to play it in a way without giving away the real Nazar is key to victory.

Nonetheless, Nazar can choose any route to progress down. His stats being equal means he can change based on his opponents and game. This is useful and makes it fun to play as him.

Personally, I enjoy playing as Nazar because he can shift to the game more easily than other Heroes. If I need more spells or to navigate more Perils, I can complete Wits and Spirit Quests to adapt.

Also, Nazar’s Illusions make for an easier game as they can take out most Perils. Yes, it takes a move. However, that is a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

Tips and Advice

Nazar’s Illusions are the greatest asset to your play, so know how you can use them. They are your not-so-secret weapon! Also, tweak your set to adjust to situations as they come.

First, you can use Illusions for trickery, and clearing away Perils. It’ll cost a movement as the Illusion only moves after you do. Still, it’s a good trade for not taking your chance against the Peril.
Also, Illusions don’t take damage from swamps, don’t have forest stealth at night, and don’t roll dungeons. That’s important because, if you want to fool the other players, you have to be smart about the Illusions.
For example, if you play an Illusion to a mountain when you have 1 move left and no ability to get into a mountain otherwise, the other Players can guess which is the real you.
Play you Illusions so that the others cannot tell what your strategy is. Be as paranoid as Nazar is.
Which Amulet you pick is up to you, depending on what you prefer to play as. Like staying alive? Pick the Soak Amulet as I often do.
If you want a truly adaptable game, Resist or Watch are your best Amulet options. These make sure that you stay alive while still being flexible enough to change your Quest strategies.
For the Ring, I’ve found that Axinite and Sulfur are the best choices for Nazar. If you want to make the most of your Illusions, pick Sulfur. That way, when you enter a swamp after casting an Illusion, no one can tell which is the real one.
Pick the Quests that best suit the victory you’re going for. Since Nazar has balanced traits, you have a 40-60/50-50 shot at extra rewards from Quests.
Speaking of Quests, complete at least one Body Quest to make sure you don’t die. After that 1 Spirit Quest and 1 Fight Quest should give you enough strength to battle and to cast powerful spells.

Nazar Pros

His Illusions can take out Perils. I mean the Illusion just walks in and, hey presto, no more peril!
Because all of his traits (Fight, Body, Wits, and Spirit) are 4, he’s very balanced. Nazar has a higher chance of succeeding at Quest gambles than other Heroes.
Because of Nazar’s unique versatility, he can pick basically any path to victory. You can build his Fight and Wits for a Battle victory or use Nazar’s stats to get Spirit Stones from every Quest.
Being from the Dragon Clan means Nazar can be Infected by 2 Rot, yet not add those to his enemy’s dice. So, if you need a Leech or Hot Rot Wine to advance, well it won’t be too much of a bother, will it?

Nazar Cons

He can go from 4 to 0 health quicker than a wink. More so than most other Heroes you’ll have to keep an eye on Nazar’s health.
Also, 4 Fight isn’t as bad as 3, but still weak compared to most other Heroes. Thus, until a Fight Quest is done, avoiding combat is the only option.
Figuring out where to go with Nazar, quest-wise, can be trouble. Even with his adaptability, the game can pull the rug out from under you quicker than a wink.
Nazar is more complicated simply because of his Illusions. Where you place them can mean the difference between life and death.

Choose Nazar if...

You like playing mind games with your opponents. Illusions can really mess with your enemies if you play it right.
You want less Perils in your game. His Illusions do great work in clearing your way.
You like going down the Corrupted path. Dragon Clan Heroes, because of their Rot affinity, are the best to choose for that victory.
You want a higher chance at the extra rewards from quests (and who doesn’t?!?). Even a minor boost from spell or item cards can push Nazar to a better chance at getting that sweet Lionheart Breastplate.

Nazar Power Rating: 86/100

5. Elyssia, Wardess of Warrens

Summary of Elyssia

The Annabeth Chase of Armello, Elyssia has no invisibility cap. Still, she has a hammer, a huge measuring stick, and Wits enough to fortify victory. Her Settlement retention is best among the Heroes and can be key to her victory.

Elyssia’s Strengths

Elyssia is strong in building Gold and playing Trickery Cards, unusual for a Rabbit. Since she can secure Gold from Settlements, she can play a lot of Trickery Cards with the added reduction from Settlements.

Speaking of Settlements, (hehe), they’re easier to keep with Elyssia’s ability. Or rather, Settlements you claim can be harder to lose since they’re Fortified. And you can enter them easily!

Also, Elyssia has stronger chances of winning a Battle Victory, assuming she has at least 4 Fight. Having more cards means she can burn more cards and get a greater advantage in Perils and Combat.

Opinion and Analysis

Elyssia is both a burden and relief. On the one hand, I’m obliged to Fortify every Settlement I enter. Yet, I also am, mostly, guaranteed that I’ll keep them.

Elyssia can be built on like the buildings and warrens she makes. For instance, she has the potential to be strong in combat if she completes enough Fight Quests. Buffed up from 3 Fight to 5 Fight with 5 Wits can be deadly to any opponent, including the King.

However, you’ll have to be patient while building up your Fight. She’s weaker than other Heroes starting off.

Fortunately, the combination of keeping Settlements as well as 5 Wits means you can find the Item Cards you need to survive and afford them. Thus, Elyssia, while not as strong battle-wise, can be molded into a survivor.

Tips and Advice

Fortifying and securing Settlements are key to Elyssia's strategy. Also, getting enough stats to survive will be needed.

Stop at every and any Settlement in your path and Fortify it. It seems like a drag but having a lot of little forts means more Gold and sanctuary for you.
For Item Cards, one armor item and a weapon go a long way to keeping Elyssia alive until you have enough Fight to counter other Heroes. The Lord’s Specter is perfect for farming gold and Prestige from your Settlements.
I always pick Scratch as my Amulet. It makes getting to 6 Fight easier and means I can complete more Wits and Body Quests.
For any Rabbit I play now, I always pick Spinel. The +20% increase of success for your Quests is huge and means you’ll get more rewards basically all the time. Elyssia benefits from the Spinel Ring as she gets more rewards which can improve her position.
On the subject of Quests, make sure to complete at least 2 Fight Quests if possible. This makes living a lot easier. Along with those, complete at least 1 of both Body and Wits Quests.
Once she has 1-2 Settlements under her belt, Trickery Cards become more of an asset to her. Have 1-2 Trickery Cards in hand to play to your captured Settlements. You cannot trust Fortified walls to protect them themselves unfortunately.
The best Trickery Cards to play to your captured and Fortified Settlements are the following: Welcoming Party, Mercenaries, Patronage and Industry (even more gold!), and Sharpshooter. If you can play a Cursed Lands or Agent of Misfortune to your Peril-ridden Settlements, do it.
If you find yourself pushed towards the path of the Rot, continue down it. Elyssia can become powerful when buffed with Rot. I’ve won many games with Corrupted Elyssia.

Elyssia Pros

She won’t lack a choice of cards! 5 Wits means the odds can be in your favor.
Settlements are more easily retained which means more Gold. Also, it means you’ll have discounts on those sweet Trickery Cards!
Also, Settlements become safe havens for Elyssia. She just needs to jump into one for extra defense.
A large Wits pool means Elyssia can have a lot of Cards. This also means she’s better at conquering Perils.

Elyssia Cons

She’s weak in battle. Even with the Scratch Amulet, Elyssia isn’t strong enough to fight most Heroes early game.
Her ability relies on her getting and keeping Settlements. Thus, if you lose them, either by a Revolt or them being claimed by another Hero, you have no advantage.
Elyssia needs to buff up her Fight in order to have a shot at killing the King. Thus, it can be a drag to find ways to buff her up.

Choose Elyssia if...

You want more Gold in your game and more Settlements. Elyssia’s ability means other players will have to pay to steal your Settlements.
You want an easier time overcoming Perils. Elyssia’s high Wits pool means she can overcome many Wits Perils.
You want a more secure game. Having enough money to play Perils and Item Cards is a huge advantage that Elyssia’s ability can keep.

Elyssia Power Rating: 65/100

6. Thane, the Winter Wolf

Summary of Thane

A classic Armello Hero, Thane is the heir to the Wolf Clan’s leadership and the original Fight-oriented Hero. While more straightforward than most other Heroes, simpler can be better for victory.

Thane’s Strengths

Thane is a fighter, as testified by his 5 Body and 5 Fight. He can survive almost any Hero that fights him. That and his sword-piercing ability gives him an edge.

Along with the Fight, Thane also has 3 Spirit which makes him, unlike most other Fight oriented Heroes, able to cast more spells. This is a huge advantage when it comes to Spell Cards like Teleport and Evil Eye.

Opinion and Analysis

Thane, as mentioned before, is a simpler Fight-oriented Hero. He doesn’t have Fang’s Berzerker or Sylas’ Butcher. However, these actually make Thane stronger in his way.

Thane is great to play as when I want a character that has an edge in Fight without becoming a target. Also, having 3 Spirit means one less Spirit Quest to worry about. Most Spell Cards are affordable with Thane.

He has Sylas’ stats but not his need for being Wanted. He has enough Wits to become smarter without sacrificing Fight Quests. Thane is perfect for building up his Fight while keeping up with the spellcasters and tricksters.

Tips and Advice

Increase your Wits as soon as you can. Without Cards with the sword symbol on them, Thane’s ability is basically useless. Combine that with getting sword Cards to rule the game.

Complete at least 2 Wits Quests in your game to maximize your piercing power!
Along with those Two Wits Quests, complete at least 1 Body and 1 Fight Quest. Or if you want to use the more powerful Spells, get 1 Fight Quest and 2 Spirit Quests.
For items, get two armor items. If you have at least +3 Armor going into battle, for any Hero but Thane in particular, you’re basically unkillable. Also, Thane’s ability means he can pierce through armor without needing to roll attack.
For Amulets, Think is an excellent choice for Thane. More Wits means more sword Cards to get your point across. Alternatively, the Grow and Resist Amulets are useful for survivability if you want more of that.
With the Rings, Rubellite is what I often choose since it makes Thane virtually unconquerable in a fight. Yet, if you want more flexibility and movement, equip the Celestite Ring.
Always have at least one sword Card in your hand. And, unless you’re against a +3 defense Hero, don’t use all the swords at once. Save them and pick your fights wisely.
Burn through cards that you don’t need to make sure you can keep that 1 sword quota. Fortunately, Thane’s Spirit level means he can cast most spell cards.

Thane Pros

Thane is basically Sylas, but without the need for the Bounty. Thus, Thane can take on anyone without worrying about giving them a Prestige victory if he dies.
Thane’s ability means most enemies cannot beat him without dying first to him. A well-played piercing sword can mean a sweet victory for you.
Having 5 Body and Fight means that Thane will live, theoretically, longer than most other Heroes. It’s harder to kill someone like that in combat.
Thane, since he has 3 Spirit and Wits, can build upon those without needing to be urgent about them. Unlike his fellow Wolf Clan Hero, Fang, Thane doesn’t need to boost his Spirit first.
He’s best for Prestige and Battle Victories. There are fewer Heroes who can take combat to the next level as Thane does.

Thane Cons

Low Spirit and Wits means less chance of extra rewards with those Quests. Sometimes brawn isn’t better than brains, I guess.
Also, low Wits means that Thane cannot have more than 3 sword Item Cards to burn. Thus, unless the player takes time to push his Wits pool higher for more swords, his ability is somewhat useless.
While 3 Spirit is better than 2, it still doesn’t leave much room for playing spell cards. Burning through Spell Cards can get tiring.

Choose Thane if...

You want a Battle or Prestige Victory. Thane’s natural combat skills means he’s a match for the King and whatever he throws at him!
You want survivability combined with the ability to fight. Unlike Barnaby, Fang has stronger Fight and an ability tailor-made for fighting other Heroes.
You want a simpler Hero to carry to victory. Thane’s skillset is simpler and thus easier to use when carrying out your killing of the King.

Thane Power Rating: 80/100

7. Agniya the Revenant

Summary of Agniya

Ancient and powerful, Agniya has faithfully served the Rot for many years. With the right playstyle and Item Cards, she can ascend to the throne…assuming it’s large enough for her.

Agniya’s Strengths

Agniya excels at surviving through killing. Her ability, Consecrate, means she’ll be healed for each enemy she’s killed.

Combine her ability and her 6 Body pool and she has much higher survivability than other Heroes, even Barnaby. If you prefer not dying and losing progress, she’s for you!

Also, Agniya is perfect to advance down the Corrupted path. Her Rot Affinity combined with her passive means she can regain health back quickly from every kill and truly be unkillable.

Like Thane, her 3 Spirit and Wits makes her perfect for building into more of both. She can easily access the higher spells like Dark Influence after some Quest completion and live to spend it.

Opinion and Analysis

Agniya is interested to play as, and not just because she towers over everyone else. Her ability means that battle becomes a lifeline like no other Hero has. It also means seeking out fights more than other Heroes do.

She, along with Fang, is a go-to for the Corrupted path. Restoring +1 health after killing someone when Corrupted interacts well with Consecrate. Together, it becomes a recipe for limitless health.

Of course, the only way for Agniya to live long enough to get anything from Consecrate is to have enough Fight. Fortunately, 1 Fight Quest and/or the Scratch Amulet is enough to give her that edge.

Overall, Agniya is a good choice if you want to fight with the chance of living afterwards, go for a Rot Victory. Or if you simply want more Survivability and flexibility in your game. Agniya can grow and live long enough to complete the necessary Quests to access the King.

Tips and Advice

Consecrate is key to Agniya's survival. However, her Fight will need to be increased to make the most of it and to achieve victory.

Build your Fight to at least 5 as soon as you can. Agniya’s ability means nothing if you cannot kill anything. Thus, completing at least 1 Fight Quest is paramount to your game.
Along with that Quest, complete at least 1 Wits Quest to gather more card options. It’ll also mean more cards to burn in battle.
Her ability triggers on your next turn. That means you have to stay alive until you get your health back.
To stay alive long enough for Consecrate to work, buy armor Item Cards. Tower Shield, Chainmail Shirt, Leather Armor, and Battle Armor are all great options, and you should have at least one of those equipped.
For Amulets, Scratch is what I always pick as it makes full use of Consecrate. However, if you want to dive straight into the Corrupted path, pick Spoil or Decay.
For Rings, it depends on whether you want more combat strength or health retention. Axinite works great for mass killing and building Consecrate stacks. Alternatively, Sulfur makes sure that you don’t lose health from swamps.
I always pick Sulfur as it works better at keeping Agniya in full health. Combined with the Scratch Amulet, I become harder to kill and healthy as a…turtle?
Pick your prey carefully. If you’re low on health, find a weaker Hero or Bane to kill. Don’t attack King’s Guards unless you absolutely have no choice.

Agniya Pros

High survival rate. It’s hard killing a giant turtle with a high Body and post-killing regeneration.
Like Nazar, Agniya has the Dragon Clan’s Rot affinity. That makes her difficult to slay since she doesn’t lose health at dawn. Also, the Rot Victory is easier to get.
Agniya makes victories in battle more rewarding as she regains health afterwards. So let go of your fear and beat that King to death!
Like Thane, she can easily build into higher Spirit and/or Wits without sacrificing completing Fight or Body quests.

Agniya Cons

Limited Wits means you have to build that to overcome Perils and get Item Cards. Same with Spirit which restricts your ability to cast higher spells like Banish.
Her Ability, while useful, only works after you kill something. Thus, you really need to be high in Fight to use it. Or at least to complete one Fight Quest.
No Affinity for night or day means you’re at a disadvantage for any Peril you encounter. Thus, avoiding them becomes a chore.

Choose Agniya if...

You want to stay alive. More than most other Heroes, Agniya cannot be killed.
You like going down the Corrupted path. Dragon Clan Heroes, because of their Rot affinity, are the best to choose for that victory.
You want a Prestige or Battle Victory. Agniya can stay alive to keep her Prestige and can beat the King in battle.

Agniya Power Rating: 74/100

8. Horace the Iron Poet

Summary of Horace

The last of an order of knights, Horace carries on his duty to protect Armello. In this case, he’ll have to kill the King to save him. Fortunately, his friendliness with King’s Guards and high fighting capabilities means access most Heroes would kill to have.

Horace’s Strengths

Access is a huge advantage with Horace. His 9th Knight ability means he can swap places with King’s Guards instead of fighting them. This places him ahead of other Heroes.

Fighting strength is another benefit of Horace. With 5 Fight, Horace can beat most Heroes without dying. Thus, he can maneuver the playing field with ease, fighting only when needing to.

Horace’s survivability, while not as great as Agniya, is still formidable with 6 Body. This makes him able to stay alive for many turns while completing Quests.

Opinion and Analysis

Horace is a good Hero to pick for a quicker game. The ability to swap with King’s Guards means moving around quicker. I’m partial to finishing games quicker which is why he’s a good option for that.

He is also better for combat without needing to fight anyone. What I mean is that he’s stronger at fighting, but you don’t need to fight. This means a less risky game while using his ability to the fullest.

Horace’s survivability also isn’t reliant on combat. Agniya needs to kill to use her Consecrate while Fang has to savagely attack while Corrupted. Meanwhile, Horace can live without needing to fight anyone.

Horace is a good Hero to play if you want a Thane-like game without the need to keep track of Item Cards. He also is great for Battle and Prestige victories.

Tips and Advice

Horace's ability works well with his high survival stats. Make the most of his ability and increase his Fight to win the day.

Use your 9th Knight ability to your advantage and not just to move around. For example, you can swap with a King’s Guard to block another player who’s chasing you or to guard a Settlement you captured.
Complete 1 Wits Quest and 1 Spirit Quest each. Without these, he cannot advance much anywhere. After that, 1 Fight and 1 Body Quest should be enough to guarantee victory against the King.
Pick the Celestite Ring to get more mobility. His Ability combined with crossing mountains easily means you’ll walk around like you own the place. Knight’s privilege?
I always pick the Feel Amulet to fix Horace’s lacking Spirit which feels odd to say about a poet! Alternatively, pick Favor to increase your chances of having the King’s ear. You don’t want him declaring you a wanted Badger!
If you can, get the Royal Pardon Treasure Card. With that, you can move anywhere and not have to worry about the King’s Guard. Heck, you could be standing in the palace about to kill the King and they won’t care!
For items, one armor and one weapon should be enough, Leather Armor and a Shining Steel Sword should be enough. After that, a Sailor’s Lantern or a King’s Guard Armor will keep you protected up to the King’s throne room.

Horace Pros

High accessibility. Horace’s friendship with the King’s Guards means you can be in most places even inside the palace! Assuming you keep the Bounty off you.
High survivability with Horace’s high Body pool. That combined with his ability means little, short of a coordinated attack, will stop you.
Even if you cannot complete the Quests, you can just enter the Palace and kill the King. So, you don’t necessarily have to do the long game of completing the Quests (Whew!).
High combat strength. Horace has enough Fight to stand against more Heroes and enough Body to survive the encounter.

Horace Cons

The starting lack of Spirit cripples Horace’s gameplay. Unless a Spirit Quest is undertaken or the Feel Amulet equipped, Horace isn’t good for spells.
Also, 3 Wits points doesn’t leave many options for card choices. Unless you get good RNG, you’ll have to get used to burning Cards.
Perils become a bigger issue too with the 3 Wits and Spirit. There’s a low shot of getting past them without good RNG, an Adventurer’s Kit, the Brilliant Fool, or a combination of all three.

Choose Horace if...

You want an easier time moving around the map. Navigating the map becomes easier when King’s Guards just swap places with you.
You want survivability. Horace shares Agniya’s high health and can survive most damage. Being a knight makes you tougher, I guess.
You don’t want to do all of the Quests for Palace access. Since you can trade places with King’s Guards, Palace entry becomes easier. You’re like a VIP!
You want a fighter-oriented Hero that has a non-fighting ability. While Horace can beat most enemies, he’s not required to initiate fights like Aginy or Fang.

9. Mercurio the Grinning Blade

Summary of Mercurio

Suave and backstabbing, Mercurio is an original along with Thane. However, while Thane focuses on combat, Mercurio is better at playing Trickery Cards, completing Quests, and staying flexible.

Mercurio’s Strengths

Maintaining Gold is easier for Mercurio since he can just take it from other players via Settlements. Combined with Rat Clan Rings, he has potential for great profit.

Additionally, his ability to get Gold means more use of Trickery Cards. Those can protect his Settlements and his path while he completes Quests. This means an easier time of completing the game.

His high Wits pool means he can escape most Perils. Additionally, he can burn more Cards for combat and Perils. Again, an easier time in the game.

Finally, Mercurio can become powerful in combat with 1 or 2 Fight Quest completions. Those, plus some good Item Cards can make a Battle Victory a walk in the park.

Opinion and Analysis

I rarely play Rat Heroes, but Mercurio is my go-to for a game of Trickery Cards and easier Quests. With the Scratch Amulet equipped, he has a 50-50 chance to get extra goodies from Quests. Who doesn’t like more spoils?

Additionally, most Perils, except Spirit Perils, become less dangerous for you. Having more Cards to burn and more dice to roll makes for a more relaxing and straightforward game.

While Mercurio lacks Spirit to make an effective spellcaster, Mercurio makes up with high Wits and his Scoundrel ability. Trickery cards are more affordable and within his reach.

While his combat isn’t high to start, it can become high early in the game. This makes Mercurio a good choice for combat if one wishes not to play as a Wolf, Horace, or Sylas.

He can be good for Prestige Victories as he can complete Quests well, navigate most Perils safely, and defeat most Heroes. If Prestige victories are your game, Mercurio is right for you.

Tips and Advice

Trickery and Gold harvesting are the main staples of Mercurio. Use Mercurio's fighting abilities and Trickery potential to win the game.

Complete a Spirit Quest as your second Quest. Without that, you won’t be able to cast any Spells Cards and you’ll be weaker against spell Perils.
Aside from that, complete 1 Fight Quest and 1 Wits Quest. The combination of the 2 means you’re stronger in combat, and able to cycle through cards better with a larger hand.
Which Ring you pick depends on your gameplay. If you prefer to be stronger in combat, the Ruby Ring is best as you’ll get a better shot at winning.
If survivability is more your aim, pick the Black Opal or Turquoise. I personally use Black Opal to get the drop on enemies attacking me in my Settlements. It also keeps me safe from being targeted by Spell Cards.
However, if you want to focus on Trickery Cards, use the Cat’s Eye Ring. Combined with your Scoundrel ability, you’ll be dealing out Trickery Cards like it's a poker game.
For Amulets, I pick the Scratch Amulet so that I can have an improved chance of getting the extra rewards from Fight Quests early. However, if you’re patient about building up Fight, pick the Watch Amulet. It’ll save you a lot of trouble dealing with Perils.
For items, Sailor’s Lantern will help you see the Perils you’re about to encounter. Then, once you know what Cards you need, see if you can burn some unnecessary ones of your own to pass. If not, take another safer route.
Furthermore, Leather Armor is great both for defense and for getting through most Perils. Get one of those and another attack item like the Bastard Sword.

Mercurio Pros

Money is no object with Mercurio. Taking Gold from other people’s Settlements is a neat, if not nice, way to build up your bank.
High Wits and Body make Mercurio’s surviving life easier. Many Perils become easier with high Wits, believe that!
Settlements become a key asset to Mercurio if he claims them. Even if one is taken away from him, he’ll take it back for 1 Gold if he goes there again.
His starting Health pool means some survivability. He can stay alive longer.

Mercurio Cons

With 2 Spirit, Mercurio’s spell casting is limited. This can be a problem if you need to use a Teleport or other 3 cost card.
4 Fight is better than most, but still weak. Without a Fight Quest completed or the Scratch Amulet, fighting becomes out of the question.
His ability becomes useless if you keep control of your Settlements or if the Settlements stay unclaimed or in revolt.

Choose Mercurio if...

You enjoy playing Trickery Cards. Mercurio’s need to capture Settlements means he’ll have the money and discount to play a lot of Trickery Cards.
You like more cCrd choices and a larger hand. Having a bigger hand can make your game easier.
You like a higher chance at Kingslayer victory. It only takes 1-2 Fight Quest completions to give the strength to beat the King. Only beating a Wits Palace Peril is all you’d need to do.
You want Prestige Victories. With enough Fight, Mercurio can slay Heroes all game and come out the Presige Leader.

10. Brun, Oakbreaker

Summary of Brun

The powerhouse among the Bear Clan, Brun combines spellcasting with brutality in battle. Cast enough Spell Cards and smash a few skulls and Brun can be a winning Hero!

Brun’s Strengths

While it doesn’t seem like it at 4 Fight, combat is a talent of Brun. His Scarcaster ability makes getting more Fight, including from Quests, easier.

Also, spellcasting becomes a focus for Brun. This means more spells to be used.

Brun’s high health pool also means Brun lives longer than most other Heroes. That combined with higher Scarcaster stacks means he can annihilate most Heroes in one turn.

Opinion and analysis

Brun, like the other Bear Heroes, is centered on casting Spell Cards to the board. Yet, he also brings a combat effectiveness the other Bear Heroes lack. This makes him a better choice for a Bear Hero.

It can be frustrating to start with 3 Wits and 3 Spirit for a Hero designed to cast multiple Spell Cards. Patience will be needed to grow Brun to have more spells available to him.

If you want a Bear Hero that can survive fights and stay alive while using his spellcasting effectively, Brun is the best choice for you.

Tips and Advice

With both Spell Cards and fighting, Brun is strong with in the game. Maximize his spellcasting abilities and he'll win any fight.

Pick your battles carefully. Even when buffed up with Scarcaster, Brun can still lose a fight to enemies who have the right items. Fight your enemies if they’re at half health (3 health if the Hero has 5 Body).
Build up Brun’s Wits and Spirit. It can be tempting to use his Scarcaster ability to complete a Fight Quest. Go for that strategy after completing at least 1 Spirit and 1 Wits Quest.
Play at least one Spell Card each turn. You need to have at least +1 Fight from Scarcaster to keep you ready for the next fight. The more spells that you cast, the better.
Without at least 1 Spirit and Wits Quest done each, you cannot cast many spells and so, not have enough damage to kill the King or anyone else. Focus on Spirit and Wits and then complete the Fight Quests.
With Rings, pick Amethyst. You’ll be able to build Magic after a fight and can cast more spells afterwards.
However, if you’d prefer to save the fighting until you need to, pick Jade, or Taaffeite. I personally pick Jade for the extra magic. That means more spell casting and more Fight in that turn.
Correct placement will be needed to get the most magic to cast spell cards. The Jade and Taaffeite Rings are your only other reliable means of getting magic. So, make sure you’re in a forest at dawn or dusk for best results.
For Amulets, pick Think to give you more chances for spells to cast. Otherwise, Intimidate gives more survivability as nearby enemies will be discouraged from attacking you.
If you can, get the Mahogany Staff and/or Wyldfire Staff as soon as you can. Along with that, Battle Armor and the Bastard Sword are your best item options.

Brun Pros

While his Fight is 4, Brun can still be a powerful fighter if you cast enough Spell Cards. In two turns, you can go from 4 to 10 Fight!
He doesn’t need to cast many Spell Cards to build up Scarcaster. Get enough 1-2 cost spell cards, and you’re set for a fight!
You’ll cycle through Cards quickly. You need to cast as many Spell Cards as possible, which means you’ll have a lot of options.
Survivability is another strong suit of Brun. As long as enough Scarcaster Fight is built up, few enemies can beat this bear.

Brun Cons

A small hand means Brun’s casting ability is pitifully limited. You can get, at best, 3 Cards played in a turn. Like Thane, Brun’s lacking Wits hurts his gameplay.
Also, 3 Spirit doesn’t give you much ability to cast spells either. Until you complete at least 1 Spirit Quest, you’re not going to be Scarcasting much.
You lose your extra Fight from Scarcaster after any encounter. Thus, if you need it for a fight or Quest, it can be easily lost.
You’re stuck to forests if you’re using Emerald or Taaffeite to boost your Spirit. Those Rings need you to be in a Forest by dawn or dusk. It can get annoying trying to get to those places in time.

Choose Brun if...

You like spellcasting. Brun’s ability makes playing Spell Cards must for his power to grow.
You like staying alive with more than 3-4 Body. Brun’s large health pool allows him to live longer than most, even than other Bears.
You like crushing opponents in a single turn. Enough Scarcaster energy and your enemies go bye-bye!
