Hey, gamers, today I’m gonna give you some advice about the resolution in CoF - Cry of Fear. For those who don’t know, Cry of Fear is a survival horror game in first person and it has many modes you can play: Main Campaign, Co-op and Custom Stories. Specifically, I’m gonna give this tip for those who will play in Co-op mode with some friends but you can use that in any mode you want.

3 - Performance Resolution (1280x720)

"You're gonna be fine. Trust me."

Well, in Co-op mode from Cry of Fear we have four maps titled Suicide and it is just random maps from the Main Campaign, so as the title says, consists of surviving as long as possible. I highly recommend playing this mode with a few friends and surely to play in HD resolution for better FPS with a normal quality.

2 - Better resolution (1600x900)

If you have a FullHD monitor, sure you can play in 1920x1080p, however I think you should try this resolution first. Initially, Cry of Fear it’s not a game that requires a lot from your computer, at first it was a Half-Life mod when released back in 2012 and became a standalone product the following year, so your FPS will not drop dramatically as you think, maybe in some parts because it's not a well optmized game anyway.

Cry of Fear Co-op - Pilot - Episode 1

1 - High Resolution (1920x1080)

I must say that I highly recommend just these three resolutions because, sincerely, Cry of Fear it’s not a well optimized game and some resolutions may bug your screen, so if you want to test another resolution better use window mode, ok? With this in mind, CoF can be played normally at FullHD and the graphics can be pretty good at this resolution. And for those who want a more performance gaming, disable Screen Grain in general options. Have a good play.

Well, a wise bone man once said: “Huh. I always wondered why people never use their special attack first.” (true gamers will know) and following this train of thought I decide to begin with the most powerful melee weapon (this time for real) of Cry of Fear.

5 - David Leatherhoff’s Axe

How To Get the David Leatherhoff's Axe

Well, if you’ve read the article about the Cry of Fear endings, or if you have played Afraid of Monsters, you know who I’m talking about. This axe belongs to the protagonist of Afraid of Monsters, David Leatherhoff, and in CoF is the most god-tier weapon. This weapon it’s a bit difficult to get but I’m here to lead you through the gamer path to help you get it.

be sure to end Cry of Fear in the fourth ending;
start a new game and go to the Unlockables Room and pick up a secret package addressed to Simon Henriksson;
send the package into a mailbox on a bus stop near the Harbor College and keep playing as usual;
on the “Heaven” map, after swallowing the pills, enter the code (the same as AoM), pick up the Axe and kill a Twitcher to unlock it.

4 - Sledgehammer

"I'm gonna build a wall!"

How To Get the Sledgehammer

This is the powerful melee weapon from the main campaign (not counting the secret weapon David Leatherhoff’s axe) you can get. This is a fun name for a weapon, don’t you think? You can break walls or you can smash a brain. Here's a new saying. The Sledgehammer can put it down many of the primary enemies with just one hit.

3 - Nightstick

How To Get the Nightstick

Commonly used by police officers in the game, the Nightstick is a weapon that can do as much damage as the Switchblade or the Branch. You can find this melee weapon near a police car. It’s not faster than the Switchblade and weaker than the Sledgehammer. Curiously, it can be dual wielded with the Switchblade to deal more melee damage, but cannot be picked up twice to wield two Nightsticks at the same time.

2 - Fist

How To Get the Fist (?)

Yeah, that’s what you read. You can also end the game just punching all those monsters. Really? Of course not. The punching can be used, however it’s not useful with all those monsters from CoF and it’s better you’re not trying to kill the Taller just with your hand. I tried once and I died in one hit.

1 - Switchblade

How To Get the Switchblade

This is your first weapon in the game. It is not known for sure, but I theorize that this knife Simon used to cut bread every morning and while came back from the bakery he might have been run over. Bread be damned. Just kidding, guys, probably Simon was using this knife to cut his arm trying to commit suicide. This weapon also has two different modes to use: Slash Attack and Stab Attack. It’s not too different in damage anyway. It's your primary weapon, you just wake up with this knife when game begins.

Cry of Fear: All Endings Explained and How To Get Each

As we all know (or all the true gamers like myself know), Cry of Fear has five endings in total of the main campaign, and some of them are too easy to complete while others need specific things to achieve. So, in this article I’m gonna show you how to get each and explain them as well.

Ending 1 (Very Bad Ending)

"I'll just get some rest from studying"

Cry Of Fear - Ending 1 (Very Bad Ending)

I should say that the endings of Cry of Fear do not have precise, canonical titles, but were kindly named by the community following the levels of each ending. Following this, here we have the number one, the Very Bad Ending:

In this first one as in the other three endings, we have Simon in his wheelchair with his head blown to bits dumped on a table, with his book, which at each end has something different written. And on the other side there is a newspaper that in its first story tells us about a doctor who has been mysteriously murdered in his apartment.

"Huh, “mysteriously”. Okay, bro."

Well, as the title says, this is the first ending you will get if you play as a newbie, I mean, no matter if you are rookie or not, you’ll probably get this ending in your first playthrough. I remember when I played Cry of Fear without caring about the story in the first three chapters, but when I saw that cutscene with Sophie and Simon on the roof, I realized that there was something else in that game.

In the Very Bad Ending, Simon seems really pissed off of his situation I believe. He begins ironically saying “Dear Diary” almost screaming out of his pages, and in his book we have him clearly assuming that he killed both Sophie and his Doctor, which he refers to as his “mentor”. He wished he could take everyone with him, and his last words were a desperate curse that anyone reading his book would be haunted by his dead body forever.

Well, kids, what we can take away from this is: never mess with wheelchair users.

How To Get This Ending

spare the life of Carcass, the boss of the rooftops, after Sophie's suicide at Chapter 3: The City is Not Safe;
do not give the gun to the Doctor Purnell at the Asylum.

Ending 2 (Bad Ending)

"Poor guy..."

Cry Of Fear - Ending 2 (Bad Ending)

As in the first ending, we have Simon almost in the same situation but has something different written both in the newspaper as in his book.

As you all know, at the beginning of the game we see some memory flashes of Simon being hit by a car, and then he finds himself in a dark alley with his Switchblade and cell phone. So that’s what this article is about.

In this conclusion, Simon seems to be disappointed, rejected by his family and friends, however he shows respect for Doctor Purnell and his efforts for helping him. Even so, it seems useless because Simon decides to commit suicide anyway, not being able to deal with the tragedy he suffered. And in an act of selfishness he literally takes Sophie with him.

How To Get This Ending

do not kill Carcass;
give the gun to Doctor Purnell at the Asylum.

Ending 3 (Sad Ending)

"Did you see my glasses?"

Cry Of Fear - Ending 3 (Sad Ending)

This ending is just a reverse ending of the second one, simple as that. Simon seems frustrated by his condition, his anxiety and depression, then he falls into complete despair. In his suicide note, he reveals that he killed Doctor Purnell and forgave his friend Sophie even though she had rejected him.

This ending is very sad and I have shed a few manly tears when I read this. I think this is the most faithful ending of Cry of Fear because all the cases I know about suicide involve psychological help that couldn't be achieved perfectly. And the fact that writing a book didn't help him shows that he couldn't be helped anyway. #verysad.

How To Get This Ending

this time you have to kill Carcass;
do not give the gun to Doctor Purnell at the Asylum.

Ending 4 (Good Ending)

"I'm gonna end this".

Cry Of Fear - Ending 4 (Good Ending)

So... “good” ending is very arguable. Simon dit not commited suicide, didn’t killed either Sophie and Purnell, but it’s not good at all because he killed two officers by accident. He believed that he had killed his mental counterpart but he was in a psychosis-induced hallucination and when came back to his senses… he had killed those two innocent police officers.

What a game I should say. Cry of Fear can provoke many emotions and feelings while gaming and in this ending you can also feel Simon’s guilt mixed with relief. At the end, Simon has been sent to a mental hospital and Doctor Purnell continues being his mentor and counsellor, while Sophie visits him regularly, even if the doctors say that she “destabilizes” his condition.

How To Get This Ending

kill Carcass;
give the gun to Doctor Purnell at the Asylum.

Ending 5 (Secret Ending)

This image speaks for itself.

Cry Of Fear - Ending 5 (Secret Ending)

Have you played Afraid of Monsters? Well, maybe you don't know about it, but it’s the first game produced by the team Psykskallar before Cry of Fear. This ending can be seen as a joke by the producers. When Simon wakes up from the car accident he sees David Leatherhoff who was driving it, the protagonist of Afraid of Monsters, thus being the responsible for getting Simon in a wheelchair.

How To Get This Ending

you need to finish the game with the fourth ending, the Good Ending;
start a new game and you’ll see that you unlocked a secret room (you’ll find this room at the very beginning of the game, the first door on the left after you see a black silhouette walk away);
take the package addressed to Simon Henriksson;
keep the package with you until you get to the college campus;
find an yellow mailbox near bus stop with the tape recorder;
interact your package with the mailbox and keep playing as usual.

Ending 6 (Doctor’s Ending)

"What do you mean you've never seen Blade Runner?"

Cry Of Fear - Ending 6 (Doctor's Story Ending)

I thought a few times before posting this ending and the next one in the list because they are not part of the main campaign of the game, but I think it is worth posting them here because they are a complement to the game.

The Doctor Purnell has a gas mask and it is considered by Simon as his mentor and counsellor. Purnell also has a Taurus revolver and has night vision because of his mask.

This mode is funny to play and can also make us see the story in a different way.

How To Get This Ending

you just have to finish the main campaign in any ending to unlock the “Doctor Mode”, it’s fairly easy.

Ending 7 (Co-Op Mode Ending)

"Wait, guys. I forgot my belt".

Cry Of Fear Ending 7 (Co-Op Mode Ending)

Well, this the happiest ending you’ll be able to see in Cry of Fear. It's a fun way to play with friends and everyone is haunted by the demonic creatures created by the mind of Simon Henriksson. I played with my cousin and a friend as soon as the game was released. This is one of the best memories I have from Cry of Fear.

This ending works best as a "What if?" since the events caused by Simon's psychosis are nullified by the cops destroying his inner demons and his book.

The easy mode is more for those who want an experience while fighting against many monsters that will be easy to kill, and the bosses will not be that hard at all but here is a thing: all the bosses are not that hard in any difficulty because almost all of them are just puzzles and shots. Maybe the Carcass can be a bit hard in Nightmare because of the damage, but it’s nothing for a real gamer like myself.

I could say that it might be an adventure and a real psychotic dream to see. You will explore more than nothing. For those who want to know everything about Cry of Fear you can choose this one.

MEDIUM

"What a day... I need a bath and relax"

Cry of Fear (Part 1) (Medium)

This is the most common difficulty that everyone chooses. In this mode you also can have the experience from the easy one but with more horror surrounding you whispering in your ear, every monster will be a challenge to kill but you’ll be fine. Less magazines, less morphine, and of course, more hits to kill.

In my 12 years when I first played Cry of Fear I chose this mode and I never regret it, so you can go with that one if you have gamer blood in your veins.

DIFFICULT

"Alright. I should go through another way."

Cry of Fear Hard Difficult Part 1

A few years later when I grew up to a level 2 gamer and less afraid person, I decided to play in this mode… Well, I didn’t know it could be so hard! Maybe the producers didn’t know how to balance the game because this mode is harder than I thought. Wait until I tell you about the Nightmare…

This mode almost doesn’t have magazines, your health will not be restored completely with morphine syringe, less saving points, half of your life will be damaged by the first monsters. I recommend this one for those who have finished Cry of Fear at least 6 times. Really.

NIGHTMARE

"Hi there"

Cry of Fear 'No Unlocks, S Rank' (Nightmare, Ending 1)

First thing I have to say about the Nightmare is: RUN! Run faster than you can. I’m not kidding, this mode is a bloody nightmare itself. The first monster you met in that grey corridor can kill you easily within five or six hits in your face, guys. This mode is amazing for those who want a real gamer challenge, it can distinguish gamers from newbies.

Nightmare is like the Devil made it. Good luck searching for a save point, morphines and anything else because in this mode you will almost haven’t. I almost forgot to say: your health it’s not 100 anymore, just 70 now. And if you find a syringe it will not heal you as it should, just half compared to Medium. So, my tip is: hit and run after the stun.

Crazyrunner is that girl with a knife in her hand with long beautiful metal black hair, and looks like Samara Morgan from The Ring.

Hint: do not reload the Glock or any handgun with some bullets still in the magazine as it will not add up with the next one.

3 - Remington 870

Everyone knows this gun, right? It has a lot of versions in many FPS games: Counter-Strike 1.6, Half-Life, Rainbow Six Siege, Battlefield etc. Of course it’s not the same gun, but it is always the same version of a 12 gauge Shotgun.

2 - M16 Assault Rifle

Here comes a valuable tip: this gun can be found the first time when the Sawrunner (that lunatic evil guy with a goddamn chainsaw previously shown at the top of the article) appears and runs after you. Kill him (of course you can!), go back and find this gun in his room.

I remember that day... It was night and I was in chapter 3 of Cry of Fear, lights out, and I came across the most powerful weapon in the game. After a fairly easy puzzle for a true gamer like myself, I found the Hunting Rifle in the room upstairs above Gustav-Dahl Park.

Extra - THE MOST POWERFUL WEAPON

Yes, man, that’s what you read. A giant branch. This god-tier weapon can be found in the woods near the end of the game. This branch is faster than the Nightstick and It’s more powerful than the Switchblade. You are lost in the woods with just a lantern and see a piece of branch, what do you do? “Better than nothing… I guess” - Simon.

Thanatophobia is a perk that affects every action time except healing.

Thanatophobia is a perk that affects survivors repair, sabotage, cleansing totems speed. For each injured survivor the slowdown becomes bigger. If one survivor is injured the survivor's speed is 5% slower and if they are all injured the survivor's speed is slow downed by 20%.

Thanatophobia can be countered by survivors who have a lot of med kits or heal constantly. It is a great perk for drastically slowing down a game.

5. HEX: UNDYING

Hex: Undying is a great perk for killers who have other hex totems perks like Ruin, NOED and so on.

Hex: Undying is a perk that needs to be paired with other hex totems perks to being effective. His ability is that it shows survivors cleansing or being near a totem for 10 seconds. It also replaces any hex totem which it was destroyed and the dull totem becomes hex totem.

Survivors can counter with cleansing all the totems. If undying is destroyed the other hex totems can be destroyed and will not be replaced. The best combination is with Hex: Ruin.

I would recommend this build to experienced and new players because of the power of the information. New players need to know where the vaults and other survivors are so this perks can help them a lot.

It is a great build but sometimes the killer downs you near a hook and you cannot wiggle out if there are no teammates to help the body block.
