The Survival set scales very well in God of War Ragnarok, which is unexpected considering that one might not anticipate the game's very first piece of armor to contribute much over the long haul. The Dragon Scaled set is equally as well-balanced as the Survival set, offering more than 200 stat points in both Strength and Defence once it has been fully upgraded. Sadly, it doesn't provide the same passive enhancements to Kratos' other stats, despite having one of the best armor skills in the game.

Each time a player parries or blocks an attack, Dragon's Fury increases Strength and Defence, with the bonuses piling up until the player is hit. Dragon's Rebuke, on the other hand, is a fantastic set for those who are skilled at timing their parries because it boosts shield damage by up to 50% and adds shield damage to successful blocks.

What the Dragon Scaled Set excels in:

This set excels in aiding players who are very defensively sound by granting boost to blocks and parries
It excels in a up close and personal play style as the strength boost is massive and it increases whenever you block or parry

How to get Dragon Scaled Set:

After finishing Chapter 13, players must head to Vanaheim's Freyr's Camp neighborhood and look for Helka to start the Scent of Survival quest in order to obtain the Dragon Scaled armor set. Players will be able to access a new place called The Crater and obtain the Dragon Scaled armor set's blueprints after following Helka and performing the favor. Players will be able to create and fully upgrade the set by killing all five of the game's dragons and finishing all of the hunts at the crater.

Giptumadr's Set is without a doubt the greatest armor in God of War Ragnarok for Runic builds. Its Fortune's Refresh talent has a chance to instantly recover 70% of a Runic Attack or Relic's cooldown after activation, in addition to providing respectable stat benefits to Strength, Defence, Runic, and Luck.

When used in conjunction with a Runic Attack, the Fortune's Bounty talent from the gauntlets and waist guard enhances the likelihood that an enemy will drop a Healthstone or Ragestone. The two talents go along exceptionally well because players have presumably already increased their Luck stat to maximize their chances of hitting Fortune's Refresh.

What Giptumadr’s Set excels in:

Excels in runic heavy builds as it gives a high chance to cancel 70% of cooldown for runic and relic attacks
Excels in protecting players who take a lot of damage due to the high defense stats

One of the final sets that players can acquire during the main story is the Fate Breaker set. Given this, it shouldn't come as a surprise to hear that, all things considered, it is one of the best armor sets in God of War Ragnarok.

Although it is much more difficult to unlock and does not actually increase Kratos' Runic stat, the Hunter's set is still a fantastic choice for those looking to put together a powerful Runic build. However, it significantly reduces the time required for Runic Attacks and Relics to cool down, allowing players to use them much more frequently than they otherwise could.

The Hunter's set not only gives Kratos strong stat bonuses, but it also significantly increases the power of his ranged attacks. Players can temporarily increase ranged attack damage with the Empowered Range skill, and all ranged damage can be increased by up to 20% with Ranged Specialist, which is a feature of the set's gauntlets and belt.

What Hunter’s Set excels in:

Supporting players looking to create a Runic build as it decreases Runic attack cooldowns
Also great for players who heavily rely on Relics as it decreases Reloc cooldown as well
Great for players who love to keep space and throw the Leviathan or use other ranged attacks as it grants a 20% boost to ranged attacks

How to get Hunter’s Set:

Unfortunately, making the Hunter's set is very challenging because it requires God of War players to finish two different favors (In Plain Sight and Nocturnal Predator) in order to obtain the necessary ingredients. The Untamed Fury, a recurring Centaur mini-boss, must also be defeated five times in three different locations (The Sinkholes, The Plains, and The Jungle).

5. The Spartan Set

The armor is made for the best of the best GOW players as it grants zero boost in all categories. My favorite set by far as it brings the nostalgic look from the earlier games.

It can be simple to overlook the fact that an armor set's main function is to shield its user from harm. In light of this, the Steinbjorn set's incredible 394 Defence points when fully upgraded make it the best armor in God of War Ragnarok, according to a very convincing argument.

Then there is the Plackart's Bloodthirsty Retaliation ability, which causes Kratos' attacks to temporarily restore health following a significant amount of damage. How to get Steinbjorn Set:

Players must first obtain the Draupnir spear in order to obtain the Steinbjorn Armor set. Then, in order to obtain the Mystical Heirloom artifact, they should travel to Midgard's Lake of Nine and smash the ice block there that has golden cracks in it. Players should use the heirloom in close proximity to the unique troll statues in Noatun's Garden in Vanaheim (x2), the Forbidden Sands in Alfheim, and The Derelict Outpost in Midgard (x3) after equipping it. By doing so, they will transform into tricky troll bosses that, when defeated, will drop the materials needed to make the Steinbjorn set.

3.The Zeus Set

Just as it does in the previous God of War game, the armor of Zeus turns Kratos into a glass cannon, with immense power and non-existent defenses. In terms of stats, the full set offers a massive 350 boost to Strength, yet will only increase the mighty Spartan's Defense stat by 100, which isn't all that great for a set of armor. That's just the tip of the iceberg though.

When the entire set is worn, Divine Edge dramatically increases enemy damage dealt by 180%, making most hits fatal. The Zeus armor is actually the best set for players who can consistently avoid taking damage because they will receive an 80% bonus to any melee or runic damage they can deal. Unfortunately, the set is made available so late in the game that it has very little opportunity to shine, even for those who can use it.

What Zeus’ Set excels in:

Grants massive strength boost with 350 STG stat
For players who prefer close combat this armor set is great as it increases melee attacks by 80%
Runic attacks also get the same 80% boost

How to get the Zeus Set:

Players must be using New Game Plus mode in God of War Ragnarok in order to obtain the Zeus armor. After finishing the game's main story, they must complete three specific Remnants of Asgard before they can obtain the armor of Zeus.

The best armor in God of War Ragnarok is undoubtedly Surtr's Scorched set, but it's also one of the most challenging and time-consuming sets to unlock. However, it partially makes up for this with enormous stat bonuses to Strength, Defense, and Vitality, as well as a few incredibly helpful skills.

Surtr's Scorched set rewards those who like to take the initiative, while the Dragon Scaled set is best for those who value timing. Aggressor's Resolve increases Stagger Resistance while attacking while reducing damage taken by up to 40%, while Preemptive Strike increases damage when players block an opponent's attack.

What Surtr’s Scorched Set excels in:

It excels in supporting in all play styles with the all around boosts
Great for players who like to go on the offensive as the Preemptive Strike grants bonus damage when interrupting an opponent’s attack
Good for situations where you know you’ll be taking lots of damage such as mob fights as the it decreases damage intake by 40%

How to get Surtr’s Scorched Set:

Players must first locate the two halves of the Muspelheim Realm Seed in order to obtain Surtr's Scorched armor set. They are situated in Svartalfheim's Modvitnir's Rig and Dragon Beach regions, the latter of which can only be reached after finishing Chapter 10 and obtaining the Draupnir Spear. Players must then travel to Muspelheim to participate in Surtr's trials in the Crucible region.

Excels in improving versatility as there’s boost well distributed between all stats
Excels in making Healthstones much more useful as it increases the chances health stones are dropped by enemies and makes the healthstones fill up the rage bar
Also great for fights with multiple opponents so when Kratos stomps on a stone it does increased damage to surrounding opponents
Excelsip in utilizing Spartan’s Rage as it grants a 50% boost to attacks done right after the rage is activated

How to get the Ares Set:

Players can purchase the Ares set from any of Brok and Sindri's workshops while playing in New Game Plus mode for a total of 58,000 Hacksilver. In the second chapter of the game, they will have their first opportunity to do so.

Sindri's armor can only be leveled up to level 7 during a typical playthrough, in contrast to some of the other Legendary armor sets in God of War. But, players shouldn't be misled because despite its level, it can compete with many of the game's most difficult foes thanks to its tremendous endurance and awesome passive benefits.

This armor is ideal for those whose fighting style heavily utilized Kratos' Runic powers because it has significant benefits to Runic and Cooldown as well as a high Defense stat. Even better, while Kratos is using Runic attacks, the Arcane Protective Barrier perk on the chest plate has the potential to completely block all damage.

Hail to the King, the game's final Draven Favor side quest, must first be finished for players to be able to create Brok's Royal Dwarven armor set. They will then have the materials and the recipe necessary to make one of the two Royal Dwarven sets. Once you've made one of them, you may make the other one with simply Hacksilver.

The best armor outside of those that are exclusive to New Game Plus mode is probably Ivaldi's Deadly Mist set. After fully upgraded, it offers 50 vitality, 168 defense, 68 runic, 85 strength, and the well-known Regenerating Essence perk, which continuously heals Kratos.

The Deadly Mist set is typically chosen over Ivaldi's other armor since its stats are arguably the most evenly distributed, making it suitable for use by any build. Although one may argue that a different piece of armor would be more appropriate for a particular build, this one works for all of them.

Ivaldi's Rusted Armor must be obtained from the workshop in the optional realm of Niflheim in order for players to build the Ivaldi's Deadly Mist armor set. They can then use the materials they find in the maze to create a set of Mist armor once they have it. The maze has the supplies required to upgrade the armor as well.

3. Ivaldi’s Endless Mist

Ivaldi's Endless Mist is the second-best version of the Mist armor set but the best offensive out of the three. A full set gives 137 Strength, 250 Defense, and 176 Vitality at level 9, making it absurdly durable. The armor provides the same immensely helpful health restoration as other Mist armor sets, and it works best for simple fighting builds.

The lack of benefits to Runic abilities is the only thing holding it back. After all, Kratos can become nearly invincible and be able to deal devastating damage nearing the game's conclusion if he uses his runic skills well. Sadly, the Endless Mist armor doesn't offer any further perks for it.

Ivaldi's Rusted Armor must be obtained from the workshop in the optional realm of Niflheim in order for players to build the Ivaldi's Endless Mist armor set. They can then use the materials they find in the maze to create a set of Mist armor once they have it. The maze has the supplies needed for upgrading the armor also.

Ares' armor grants up to 137 Strength, 200 Defense, 76 Luck, and 100 Cooldown for those who desire to be the true God of War. Those statistics should be plenty to persuade players to complete the game's New Game Plus mode in order to get it, but its benefits are where it truly excels.

Rage Field significantly accelerates both the rate at which Rage is gained and the rate at which it is lost. Nevertheless, there is a trade-off because if players choose to wear this armor, they will have to give up some of their Rage bar.

Players must defeat the dragon Hraezlyr in order to build the Armor of Ares in New Game Plus mode. It takes a lot of Hacksilver and Skap Slag, two rare materials that are dropped by specific opponents or discovered in chests in New Game Plus mode, to craft and upgrade the set.

Many people believe that the armor that Kratos' father originally wore is the best in the entire game. Boasting stats of 145 for Strength, Defense, and Runic, as well as a perk that dramatically amplifies the power of Kratos' standard attacks, this armor is no joke and a more than deserving reward for those who work to get it.

Although the Zeus set's bonus increases the damage that foes do to Kratos, making him somewhat of a glass cannon, Kratos can rip through enemies while rocking it. [Explained] Why Did Kratos Kill Zeus

Zeus the God of the Sky

Zeus, a.k.a. "the Nick Cannon of Greek Mythology," was the father of Kratos and also his number one enemy. Zeus, the King of the Gods, was slain by his son Kratos, who continued the cycle of parricide just as Zeus did with his own father.

Daddy Issues

The bad blood between Kratos and his father Zeus runs deep, starting from the childhood of the God of War. Kratos was born out of an affair between Zeus and his human mother, Callisto, in the city of Sparta. Zeus’ wife, Hera, the Queen of the Gods, was displeased with yet another illegitimate child from Zeus, and she predicted that the child would bring doom to Mount Olympus. Zeus, taking pity on the child, refused and went on to have another fair with Callisto, resulting in the birth of Kratos’ younger brother, Deimos.

While Kratos and Deimos were still children, Zeus received an oracle that he would be deposed by a renowned warrior from among his offspring. Deimos, who was born with unique markings and is Zeus’ most recent child, was captured by Athena and Ares upon the orders of Zeus while the boy and his elder brother were training. Kratos attempted to save his little brother but was swiped away as he could not match the power of the gods.

Servitude to Mount Olympus

Later on in the story, Kratos vows service to the Gods of Olympus in hopes of freeing himself of his cursed past. During his service, Ares, the original God of War, attacks Athens, the city belonging to a fellow goddess, Athena. Zeus, fearing that Ares was the marked warrior, allowed Athena to use Kratos for her bidding and to defeat Ares. As Kratos ventured to Pandora's box to receive the power boost needed to defeat Ares, Ares found out and impaled and killed him with a pillar, sending him to the underworld. Zeus disguises himself as a grave digger and helps Kratos escape the realm of the dead with a portal.

As Ares threatens the gods and Olympus, Kratos returns and uses a bolt from Zeus’s fury, which was granted to him by Zeus, to reclaim Pandora’s box. Zeus and the rest of the gods guided Kratos to kill Ares, believing he was the real threat to Olympus. After his victory, the Olympians forgave Kratos and made him the new God of War.

Growing Fear

After Deimos’ death and witnessing Kratos’ destructive and aggressive behavior, Zeus feared that Kratos might be the child of the oracle who would one day destroy Olympus. This led to Zeus plotting to find a way to get rid of his son. While Kratos was attacking another city, Rhodes, Zeus swooped in as an eagle and zapped out a portion of Kratos's new God of War power and put it into the giant statue, the Colossus of Rhodes. This caused the giant statue to come alive and attack the now-shrinking Kratos. Zeus then tricks Kratos further, telling him to imbue the rest of his godly power into the Blade of Olymus to take down the colossus. Kratos did so and defeated the giant statue with ease, but was nearly crushed to death as the statue came crumbling down on him.

To survive, Kratos headed to the sword of Olympus that was knocked out of his hand but was intercepted by Zeus just as he was about to reach the sword. Zeus then ordered Kratos to swear allegiance to him, but the enraged Spartan declined. Zeus then stabbed him. As Kratos slowly lost his grip on life, Zeus expressed his disappointment in his son, but Kratos continued to insult the god. Zeus stabbed Kratos again, killing him, but Kratos promised to get his revenge before taking his final breath.

As Kratos embarked on his journey of vengeance, he looked for the power to bring his father down, which he found in the power to control time itself. Kratos comes to the moment right before he was stabbed and knocks an unsuspecting Zeus to the ground, claiming the Blade of Olympus once again. The two gods charged at each other, taking their battle to the skies, where they landed on the Summit of Sacrifice, beginning their grand battle. Kratos slammed Zeus with blow after blow, declaring that Zeus would pay for his actions. The enraged Zeus let out his full power, unleashing an electrical storm on Kratos.

Kratos, up against the walls, relied on his old military tactics, bamboozling Zeus into believing he was surrendering. Kratos asks Zeus to end his life, but he deflects some of Zeus’s lightning and overpowers his father, taking the sword from him. Kratos pins him on a rock and stabs him to return the favor. He is interrupted by Athena, who jumps in the way of Kratos’ blade to save her father, who uses this as his chance to escape. As Athena dies, she informs Kratos that Zeus is his father, and if he kills him, he’ll be continuing the cycle of sons killing fathers, which dates back to the beginning of time.

The second face-off between the father and son was an all-out war among the beings of Olympus. Zeus informed his brothers of the circumstances and told them to prepare for battle. Weakened by the previous battle, Zeus remained on the sidelines until his brother Poseidon was killed.

Zeus begins the battle by striking Gaia, while Kratos attempts to drop them into the River Styx. He was successful with Kratos and dropped him, but Kratos climbs his way back to the top of Mount Olympus and destroys more gods, including his brother, Hercules.

Kratos and Zeus face off again when they find themselves in Olympus’ inner chambers. Their battle was interrupted when Pandora attempted to jump into a flame, but Kratos caught her just in time. She pleaded with Kratos to let her go, but he would not agree. Zeus tells Kratos to not let her go and that for once in his "pathetic life," he’s doing something right. In a blind rage, Kratos drops Pandora and attacks Zeus. Zeus then further angered his hot-headed son and led him to the same platform they confronted each other earlier.

Zeus observes the damage that Kratos has done to Olympus and tells him he’ll have a lot of cleaning up to do once their battle is decided. They fight again until they are interrupted by the Titan Gaia. She is here to get vengeance on her grandson and great grandson for causing such damage to her world. Gaia attempted to kill the two gods, crushing the platform they were standing on. They both escaped and entered a giant wound in the chest of the titan.

The Cycle Continues

The father and son continued on in their vicious battle, using Gaia’s heart to heal themselves. Kratos eventually turned Gaia and Zeus into holy kebabs, impaling Gaia's heart and killing them both. Kratos takes the Blade of Olympus from Zeus' "dead" body, but as he leaves, he is attacked by Zeus' spirit, causing him to lose most of his power and become infected by Zeus' Fear. Kratos, who was thought to be defeated, used the help of Pandora’s spirit to forgive his sins and release Hope from within himself. He then beats Zeus’ spirit, forcing it to return to his body, giving him life again.

Kratos, on his way to kill Zeus, realizes his father is weak enough to defeat him with his bare hands, drops the Blades of Chaos, and charges at the god. Zeus flees in terror, only to be thrown into a rock by the enraged Spartan. Kratos beats his father uncontrollably, kicking his face in and slamming him against rocks. He ends the long war between the two, grabbing his father's beard and beating his face into a pulp. After his death, Zeus’ body disintegrates and explodes in a huge blast of light, unleashing chaos on the world and ending his reign over Olympus.
