What makes the world go round? Money! That's even true in our sweet little town on ACNL. So, let's dive into the Top 10 Ways to Make Bells in Animal Crossing New Leaf!

*NOTE* Turning on the Bell Boom Ordinance will increase all your profits mentioned below. I recommend using it while you are farming bells and turning it off when you are finished.

10. Earning Interest

It’s exactly what it sounds like! You will accumulate interest depending on how many bells you put into savings. This method although the easiest will be by far the slowest on this list to make bells.

How it Works

You will first need to locate your towns Post Office located on the left-hand side of Main Street
Interact with the ABD (automatic bell dispenser) and deposit however many bells you would like. Keep in mind the more bells you deposit, the higher the interest rate will be.
At the first of every month you can check back and see how much interest you have made. Easy peasy money!

How Many Bells Can You Get Using This Method?

This all depends on how much money you put into it, but you will receive 0.5% back. The max amount of money you can make per month however is 99,999 bells. You would have to have almost 20 million deposited to make the max number of bells per month. It is slow but steady easy income.

9. Selling Appraised Fossils

A super informational video on how to sell your daily fossils.

Appraised Fossils is a quick and simple way to make a couple thousand bells a day. It takes very little time and 4 fossils will spawn per day in town. Might as well make money off them!

How it Works

Everyday upon starting up your game, go ahead and do a quick little run around your town to find where the fossils have randomly spawned.
Once you find them, dig the fossils up. (They will look round and blue. DO NOT SELL THEM LIKE THIS)
Before selling your freshly dug up fossils, you must go get them appraised by Blathers inside of your museum on Main Street. This is how they get their value.
If you are a collector like me, donate what you want to the museum. But, if you are out to make max bells, go ahead and take them straight to Re-tail and sell them.

How Many Bells Can You Get Using This Method?

This method isn’t going to make you rich but every bell counts. Each fossil sells between 1k – 6k bells. So, I would estimate that if you sell ALL 4 fossils, you have the change to make between 4k bells and 24k bells. It all depends on your luck for the day!

8. Selling fruit (foreign and local)

What if I told you, you could make thousands of bells by shaking your trees? This is a pretty common way to make bells and helps if you have a lot of trees! In addition to your native fruit that grows, I suggest grabbing foreign fruit from the island or even friend’s towns. Fruit from the island or from other towns sells for a higher price than fruit you can get locally.

How it works

I recommend going first to either a friend’s town to grab a few pieces of fruit that you don’t already have in your town.
If you do not have friends that play, head over to the island via the dock.
Once on the island, take a tour that will have plenty of trees and harvest away at the fruit instead of performing the tour’s task.
Go back to your town and plant all your new foreign trees.
Interact with them and shake the fruit out every 3 days.

How Many Bells Can You Get Using This Method?

This all depends on the number of trees you originally plant.
Native fruit will sell for 100 bells (perfect for 600 bells) per fruit at Re-tail
Foreign fruit will sell for 500 bells (perfect for 3000)
Island fruits will sell for 250 bells

7. River Fishing

A complete guide to all New Leaf fish!

I would really only suggest this method to players who are newer and have not unlocked the island yet or someone who is just not fond of the island itself. Now this method is fairly straight forward. You will simply fish in your town at your river and sell your catch! This will take some time and patience, but you can get some expensive fish from this and the bells in your pocket will be well worth it!

How It Works

This is usually where bullet points would come in but there is only one step! Walk along your river and fish all the shadows out. If you are looking for a specific shadow (a large shadowed fish) run along your river to scare off small shadows. After you have farmed as much fish as you can handle, go ahead and sell to Re-tail.

How Many Bells Can You Get Using This Method?

*Categorized by Month*

January –The most you can make on a fish this month is 15k per Stringfish. They will have the longest shadow that you will have seen all day.
February- The most you can make on a fish this month is 15k per Stringfish. They will have the longest shadow that you will have seen all day.
March- The most you can make on a fish this month is 4k per Koi fish. They will appear long.
April- The most you can make on a fish this month is 4k per Koi fish. They will appear long. A close runner up being the Char which sells for 3800 bells and will have a medium shadow. Char can be found 4am-9am and 4pm-9pm.
May- The most you can make on a fish this month is 4k per Koi fish. They will appear long. A close runner up being the Char which sells for 3800 bells and will have a medium shadow. Char can be found 4am-9am and 4pm-9pm.
June- Now June has a lot of big number catches. Dorado will be the priciest at 15k with a VERY long shadow. The Arowana will sell for 10k and has a long shadow. The Gar sells for a 6k and will have the longest shadow of them all. June is a busy month
July- Another busy month is July. Here are your top 3 fish to look out for! The Dorado is still a whopping 15k and has a VERY long shadow. The Arowana will sell for 10k and has a long shadow. And lastly, the Arapaima is priced at 10k and has the longest length shadow.
August-. Here are your top 3 fish to look out for! The Dorado is still looking at 15k per fish and has a VERY long shadow. The Arowana will sell for 10k and has a long shadow. And lastly, the Arapaima is priced at 10k and has the longest length shadow.
September- Another repeat from the previous months’ you guys! The Dorado is still a whopping 15k and has a VERY long shadow. The Arowana will sell for 10k and has a long shadow. And lastly, the Arapaima is priced at 10k and has the longest length shadow.
October- And we are back to our Koi (4k) with the long shadow and our Char with the medium shadow (3800k) per fish.
November- Another month of Koi fish for (4k) and long shadows and Chars with medium shadows for (3800k).
December- For December we are looking for the longest shadowed fish, the Stringfish for 15k and the Koi for 4k with a long shadow.

6. The Stalk Market

This video simplifies the ever complicated stalk market.

This method of making bells is risky much like an actual stock market. However, you have the chance to make a LOT of bells. All of this is dependent on many factors. It will all depend on how many turnips you plan to purchase (keep in mind if you buy a bunch of turnips you have the chance of losing much more money if you get a decreased pattern), the price you purchase the turnips for, the type of selling pattern you randomly receive, and when you decide to sell.

How It Works

First, you will locate Joan the boar wandering around your town to purchase turnips from her. The selling price will be between 90 and 110 bells per turnip.
After purchasing your turnips, go to Re-tail twice a day to check their turnip buying prices. I recommend going once in the morning and once again after 12pm, seeing that they change the price twice a day. *Missing the price change will make it hard to know what pattern you have received*
Once you recognize which pattern you have, make sure to sell at the right moment before the next Sunday. Your turnips WILL rot!

How Many Bells Can You Get Using This Method?

This is really hard to estimate because so many things factor into this so, you will have to do the calculations based on the price you purchase them for and the prices you receive from Re-tail.
It would really have to be a trial and error experience and hope that luck is on your side. This does have the potential to make you a handful of bells.

5. Deep Sea Diving

A complete list of deep sea creatures!

Deep sea diving is a neat way to make a decent number of bells. It can be a bit tedious, but you will leave with tens of thousands of bells in your pocket!

How It Works

Take the boat from the dock in your town to the island.
Borrow the wetsuit from the gyroid and take a dip in the water.
Swim around the island keeping an eye out for shadows in the water and bubbles.
Position yourself over the shadow before diving with the Y button. Be prepared to mash your A button to chase after the shadow. (I usually only go after shadows that move quickly. They usually are worth more)
Fill up your pockets and the box to go home and repeat the process until you are happy with the amount you have received!
How Many Bells Will You Get Using This Method?
I tested this method for an hour and my results were as follows: I mostly captured octopus shadows with a few other sea creatures and made 36,600 bells. Not a bad haul in an hour!

4. Bug Harvest on Tour

Another great tour on the island to grab as many creepy crawlies as you can!

This is similar to our fruit harvest during an island tour method but instead we will be catching bugs! This is super easy and can get you a pocket full of bells. Any tour can be used but I recommend the flower gathering tour or the hide and seek tours. But, almost any tour will work.

How it works

Take the boat from the dock in your town to the island.
Take a tour of your choice that will have trees and flowers for bugs to land on.
Walk around (running may scare beetles away) and catch as many as you can in 5 mins. Repeat the tour as needed until your box to take home is full.

How Many Bells Will You Get Using This Method?

I took the flower gathering tour for an hour and after selling all my bugs to retail ended up with 48,900 more bells than I had before. Not the best haul but definitely a nice chunk of bells for PWP.

3. Ocean Fishing (from town)

The complete guide to all New Leaf fish.

I recommend this method especially if you do not have the island unlocked yet. It is straight forward and can make you a solid amount of bells. Its quicker to sell your fish as well seeing that you are closer to Re-tail than from the island. Making farming these fish for hours effortless.

How It Works

First, buy a fishing pole from Nookling Junction if you do not already own one.
Next walk up and down your beach catching every fish you see. I tried the method where I scare off little fish in order to spawn bigger fish and it does not seem as effective as on the island. So, I catch and sell EVERYTHING.
Go to Re-tail and sell all your catches to Reese.
Repeat as needed.

How Many Bells Can You Get Using This Method?

In an hour of offshore fishing in my town I made a total of 98,000 bells. I was pleasantly surprised at my haul! I absolutely will be using this more in the future.

2. Catching Island Bugs

A great video on bell making and how to become rich!

Catching bugs from the island made me a TON of bells. If you have patience I would 100% recommend this method.

How It Works

Take the boat from the dock in town to the island.
Slowly walk around the island as not to scare off the beetles.
Scare fish away so that more bugs may spawn. (I also scare off fruit beetles)
I try and catch butterflies and beetles only but grasshoppers aren’t so bad to catch too.
Repeat until your box to take home is full and then repeat as needed.

How Many Bells Can You Make Using This Method?

After Catching bugs on the island for an hour I went home and sold them to Reese for an entire 109,080 bells. I went back and repeated this for several more hours. Easily can pay off public works projects in a day!

1. Catching Island Fish/Sharks

This tricky trick to make farming sharks a bit easier.

This was by far the best way I made bells for my town. It does take a little patience but in the end, I was so happy I stuck it out! There is a little trick to this method and that is scaring off all MEDIUM shadows. If the shadow is very small, I went ahead and caught it because I knew it was either a clown fish or sea horse which isn’t a horrible pay out. BUT, stick to trying to only catch sharks! If there is a big shadow, you feel could be a Blue Marlin go ahead an try to catch it as well. If it is a Sea Bass…let that sucker go.

How It Works

Take a boat from the dock in town to the island.
Borrow a fishing pole from the gyroid and slowly circle the island looking for fins.
If the shadow is medium or large (with no fins) run them off.
If it is very small or has a fin catch it!
Repeat until the box to take home is full and repeat as needed.

How Many Bells Can You Get Using This Method?

So, after one whole hour of using this method and selling to Reese at Re-tail I left with a whopping 138,050 bells to put into my pocket! I will solely be using this method from now on!

With this Top 10 Animal Crossing New Leaf Best Town guide it will be a hit every single time!

10. Crystal

A kawaii pastel town covered head to toe in flowers and prettiness. It is themed after Sailor moon and looks like it came right out of the anime itself!

What’s Great About Crystal?

Each home is themed after a different sailor scout.
The landscaping is beautiful and girly! The pink and white cosmos keep the theme throughout the town.
The homes are a bit messy, but I think the homes are such a good reflection of each character. I really felt nostalgic going through Crystal. Anyone who is a fan of Sailor Moon should stop by this lovely town!

9. Bleualpe

This is a beautiful Autumn themed town and has a cozy fall feel to its landscape. I would describe Bleualpe as a “mountain town” that makes you feel like cuddling up with a cup of hot cocoa. It’s forest-y and the cabins are somewhere I personally would go to get away and relax!

What’s Great About Bleualpe?

The grocery store is by far one of my favorite parts of this town. It reminded me of the little shop in Frozen. Super quaint!
Every room is packed full of furniture that makes the homes feel “lived in”. The style is extremely eclectic.
Out of all the towns this town felt like the one I would choose to live in.
The only town on the list set in Fall.

8. Hitokui (cannibal town)

This town has disturbing concepts and features gore. Please take that into consideration before visiting Hitokui.

Although I’m not sure there is a clear story behind this town, it’s very clear something very bad has occurred in many of these homes and around town.

What’s Great About Hitokui?

This is one of the goriest/creepiest towns I have visited.
The QR codes were handmade which was by far the scariest part of the town.
Even though the story isn’t apparent, the placement of furniture and patterns explains enough to let you in on some very dark secrets about the townspeople being cannibals.
The scary theme extends past the homes and out into the town as well. Each home/room got scary and I found myself excited to see what was in store next!

7. City

This town really does feel like a REAL city! This town is very symmetrical and detail oriented. The modern architecture of the house really makes it feel like a “city”.

What’s Great About City?

Everything is so perfect and symmetrical about the landscaping. I imagine this took months upon months of planning and it came out great!
I have never seen paths like this. So different! They literally made roads out of QR codes. You can practically imagine cars driving up and down the roads.
The town feels so realistic. It includes sidewalks, parks, streetlights and even front yards for every villager! Great inspiration for any Animal Crossing player.

6. Aquarine

Aquarine is a floral filled town that has been “hacked”. It has a messy natural feel and is just so pleasant to visit!

What’s Great About Aquarine?

The homes are extremely cozy, and one can only WISH they were a villager in this quaint town.
The landscaping has a messy-ness to it, but it definitely had quite a bit of thought put into it.
The homes are different sizes and even the tiniest of homes are adorable. The town is full of great ideas and great inspiration. I have gathered a lot of ideas from this very town for my own!

5. Kodama

An overgrown “hacked” forest-y town. Kodama is a lovely evening set town that is very spiritual! It has been made by the Youtuber who creates most of these videos! So, you know she has some great concepts for her towns.

What’s Great About Kodama?

This town has some Princess Mononoke references that are subtle but adorable.
The witches’ huts are creative and stay on theme.
The amount of work that was put into furnishing these homes (that are FULL of furniture) must have taken so much time and planning. I can really appreciate the time and work that was put into these designs.

4. Darkcove (scary town)

This town will be disturbing/scary so please be aware before visiting!

This town tells a creepy story and homes must be visited in order to tell this town’s history.

What’s Great About Darkcove?

This town isn’t only decorated very creepy but has an interesting story behind it as well.
They creator made patterns that are no doubt the scariest part of this entire town.
The town actually has nice landscaping despite the eerie atmosphere.
I really enjoyed the story and often thought about it throughout the week! Spooky!

3. Citalune

A uniquely themed town based off the sun and the moon sides of town. The creator really stuck to the theme and you can tell every detail had a lot of thought put into it.

What’s Great About Citalune?

The town is divided into two different sides. The “sun” side of town and the “moon” side of town. Everything is changed depending on the side of town. The flowers, the home décor and even the villagers were themed depending on the side of town they reside in.
Each side of town has its own ruler.
This town has been “hacked” so keep that in mind when trying to incorporate some of the towns landscape.
The entire town has a very ethereal feel to it. Very Dreamy and relaxing.

2. Crescent

A sleepy creative little town set in April at 11pm. Crescent is one of the most creative towns I have seen. This town has a very “home-y” feel to it. There was a pleasant surprise in every home!

What’s Great About Crescent?

Each home in this town has a unique themed room.
Each room is a town necessity!
This town is practical and has everything a villager may need to run every day normal errands!
The gym in the town is especially great! The library and bank feel very realistic and looks similar to the ones in my hometown.

1. Imori

A beautiful leafy green town with a Totoro themed house and even a Kiki’s Delivery themed home. I can only imagine getting the town to replicate homes in the movies was a difficult task and most likely took months to complete. This is such a detailed town and is by far one of my favorite dream addresses to visit! Hope you guys enjoy!

What’s Great About Imori:

This town is a themed town with a Studio Ghibli theme
It is a “hacked” town, so keep that in mind if you are trying to recreate some of its features.
The details and patterns are handmade QR codes
The resemblance to the Studio Ghibli moves is uncanny and you can tell right away what movie is being portrayed.

Animal Crossing New Leaf Guide: 50 Essential Tips & Tricks You Must Know

Starting a new game can feel a bit overwhelming, here are 50 tips and tricks to your new favorite game, Animal Crossing New Leaf.

50. The Name Change

The Problem: You’ve been playing your game for a month now and you realize you hate your town name. So, how can you change it?

The Solution: You can’t! So, make sure you pick a town name or a player name you absolutely love before beginning your save file.

How to Solve: When prompted at the start of your game for you and your towns name, pick something you can tolerate for years to come!

*NOTE* Your first character will be the mayor of your town and the only way to change the town name will be to delete your save file and to start again.

49. The Bad Map

The Problem: It’s time to farm for bells! But next thing you know, you find that you are running back and forth across your map from your house, to the beach, to Re-tail! It’s a mess! But, what can you do?

The Solution: Pick your map carefully at the beginning of your game.I personally prefer my Re-tail shop to be close to my beach ramps. Any farming from the beach and the island now will be an effortless task to unload those precious bells!

How to Solve: Simply pick a map at the beginning of your game that shows the little pink icon for Re-tail near your beach ramp. If out of the 4 maps, none of them have that option, exit the game and restart. It may seem like a hassle, but I promise in the end, it will save you a bunch of time!

48. Popping Balloons without a Slingshot

The Problem: You are new to the game and see those pesky balloons flying just out of your reach. You don’t have access to a slingshot yet and just need to see what’s inside the present the balloon is holding.

The Solution: Pop it with your handy dandy shovel!

How to Solve: Wait for the balloon to float towards the edge of the cliff bordering your beach. Once the balloon reaches the edge, spam your shovel tool as close to the balloon as you can until you are able to pop the it! And, Bam! The balloon will pop, leaving your present on your beach.

47. Pitfall Seed Burial

The Problem: Every day you are happily playing in your lovely village, when all of a sudden, you fall into the ground and are stuck!! Thwarted by yet another pitfall seed!

The Solution: Keep the pitfall seed out of your way forever!

How to Solve: Before falling into the pitfall, dig it up with your shovel. Walk to a far corner of your town where you rarely ever walk and bury the seed in that corner. It will stay there indefinitely until you choose to dig it back up. Problem solved!

46. Island Shark Hunting

The Problem: Black Bass…again and again. That’s all you catch! And they are worth hardly any bells, such a waste. How do you catch mostly sharks, you wonder?

The Solution: Scaring off MOST of the fish shadows.

How to Solve: When you see a shadow that does not have a fin on top, run by it to scare it off. This forces a new fish to spawn on the island and eventually the spawn will be a shark.

45. Exotic fruits

The Problem: You’ve seen exotic fruits growing in other player’s towns, but you only seem to have one local fruit that grows. How do they get all these fancy fruit trees?

The Solution: The island has all the fruit you need! Going to the Island to gather exotic fruits is so easy and fun. You can really spice up your landscaping by gathering durians,lychee, mangos, coconuts and even bananas!.

How to Solve: Take a boat from your dock in town to the Island. If you would like to grow coconuts and bananas harvest those from the island itself. If you would like fruits that are local to other towns, I recommend taking a tour and instead of getting medals go ahead and fill your pockets with all the different fruit.

44. Stop that singing!

The Problem: If you can’t stand Cap’n serenading you EVERY. SINGLE. TIME , then I might have the solution for you!

The Solution: What if I told you there was a way you can skip his creepy singing on the way to the island?!

How to Solve: Right before he starts singing press A or B to skip over it. If he has already burst into song, then repeatedly tap on the bottom touch screen and he will stop! Thank goodness!

43. Out of Storage

The Problem: Well, you are out of storage. You have collected wayyy too much stuff and now have nowhere to put it!

The solution: Make a new character and use their home to store furniture and items.

How to Solve: Upon starting up your game you have the option to create a new character…or four. You can fill up their home with items and if you give them a dresser you may fill up 4 pages of space with your treasures as well.

42. It’s Not the Bee’s Knees

The Problem: Here you are shaking trees, in search of bells, and here come the bees to attack you! Next thing you know, your face is swollen from bee stings, and no one likes that!

The Solution: Prevent the mean bees from spawning at all! Or avoid them!

How to Solve: If you don’t mind leaving your gate open while you shake your trees, the bees will not spawn while they are open. If you do not want to leave the gate open, I suggest that when the bees start to swarm, quickly press the start button and save/continue. After the save is finished, the bees will be gone!

41. Money Trees

The problem: You could just use some more dang bells!

The Solution: Money grows on trees! Duh!

How to Solve: If you plant between 1k-50k bells, you will have a chance to grow a money tree. 1k bells will give you a 1% chance all the way up to 50k giving you a 50% chance. This can be done multiple times and when the tree grows the bells may be harvested like fruit. I don’t recommend planting more than 50k because the money tree only produces 90k.

40. The money rock

Problem: You could STILL use some more bells!

The Solution: Bang on your town’s rocks.

How to Solve: Once a day a rock will spawn in your town that is not usually there. Hit the rock with your shovel over and over. The rock will produce either 8 coins/bags of bells or 8 gems to be sold. Note that while hitting the rock your character will move further and further away from the rock. And, if you take too long of a pause from hitting it, the rock will stop producing bells/gems. So be quick!

39. Natural Paths

The Problem: The paths you find on Pinterest are just not to your liking and you are no good at making QR codes yourself. What you really like are the natural paths you have seen in other towns. But, how do you create them?

The Solution: Believe it or not, running!

How to Solve: So, your grass in your town will deteriorate if you run on it. So, plan where you would like your paths and run repeatedly over the area. It won’t happen right away, it may take a few in game days and it WILL take time. But, over time you will have created a natural dirt path. I like to lay down QR designs to the side of where I want my paths so I don’t wear out the wrong area.

38. Changing Skin Color

The Problem: Your character’s complexion is not the shade you would like them. You are either too light or too tan.

The Solution: Stay away from the sun/Go into the sun!

How to Solve: If you are too tan, I suggest investing in an umbrella or a wide brimmed hat. This will protect you from the sun and in a matter of days your complexion will become lighter. If you want to tan, I suggest going to the island and sunbathing for a bit! You can take off any hat/wig/glasses and float in the ocean. I find that’s the quickest way. Who would have thought it would be such a commonsense fix!

37. Forcing the Sale

Problem: You want to sell your items in Re-tail but no one seems to buy them!

Solution: FORCE your villagers to purchase your stuff!

How to Solve: Now, this will seem a little mean BUT it has always worked for me. Mark your item up about 2-3 times the normal selling price (anything more this won’t work). When another villager is visiting Re-tail at the same time as you, gently nudge them in front of the item you’d like to sell. Eventually, they will ping you, asking if they should by the item.

36. Bushes/trees dying

Problem: Your bushes and trees you plant keep dying!

Solution: You may only plant 12 bushes/trees together.

How to Solve: When landscaping, you may only plant 12 bushes/trees/bamboo/stumps together. This means only 12 may be side by side, vertical, or horizontal together. If you would like more, I suggest planting 12 and then making a space between that can be filled in with flowers.

35. Breeding Flowers

The Problem: You would like new color variations of your flowers so your town can look even more beautiful!

The Solution: Learn the patterns and combos to breed a variety of different flower colors.

How to Solve: This is an extremely in-depth project that takes time! Here is a guide that I love to use! I recommend turning on your Beautiful Town ordinance so you won’t have to water all your breeding flowers.

The easiest guide you will ever follow!

34. All your stats

The Problem: Not sure how many hours you’ve put into your town? Want to see when your town was first founded? There is a way!

The Solution: Visit your town tree!

How to Solve: In the Plaza you will find your town tree. Surrounding it is a brick ledge. Have your character sit on the ledge and after a little while your stats will start to scroll up on your screen. Ta-da!

33. Getting QR Codes

The Problem: You would like to start making your own paths or would like to scan in a new QR code for a cute outfit you found but don’t know how.

The Solution: Keep on bothering Sable!

How to Solve: Every in-game day go to the Able Sisters shop and try and talk to Sable (she works on the sewing machine). She will brush you off for several days and sometimes even be a bit rude. After a number of days, she will eventually give in and lend you her sewing machine! This machine will give you access to being able to scan in QR codes.

32. Emotes

The Problem: You have seen other players emote and you can’t seem to figure out how to unlock them! I don’t blame you, this was one of the last things I figured out myself!

The Solution: Give gifts to Dr. Shrunk.

How to Solve: After unlocking Club LOL on Main Street, visit Dr. Shrunk after 12pm before club hours to offer him gifts of fruit. It does not matter which fruit you give him and can even be the ever-abundant bamboo shoot. He will then tell you a joke and following that he will give you a new emote. Every day you have an opportunity to gain a new emote so don’t forget him!

31. Villager Outfits

The Problem: You can’t stand what your villager is wearing. Yeah, we’re talking to you Apollo and Charlise.

The Solution: Give them new clothes!

How to Solve: Mail the village you would like to change clothes for a letter and attach a shirt you would prefer them to wear. This is not a sure-fire way, but your suggestion is the only way they will change clothes. So, do not give up! Keep mailing new outfits until one takes.

30. Filling your art gallery

The Problem: Like me you didn’t understand how to get art to fill up your art gallery in the museum.

The Solution: Purchase REAL art from Crazy Redd

How to Solve: Crazy Redd will show up about once a week at random and will sell art in his tent near the Plaza. BEWARE! 3 out of 4 of his paintings/sculptures are fake!! I suggest looking up the real pieces of art online to see what they really look like. Three will have something different than the real work of art and one will be an exact replica. Buy the replica and he will mail it to you the next day. Take the piece of art to Blathers and he will accept the art if it is the real deal.

29. The Fortune Shop

The Problem: You realize you have an empty shop on Main Street and don’t know how to unlock it!

The Solution: Get your fortune told a bunch by Katrina.

How to Solve: Once a week Katrina the fortune teller will visit near the plaza. If you have her tell your fortune 20 separate times, she will move a fortune teller shop into your town!

28. Even MORE Storage Space

The Problem: After filling up your 4 character’s homes with all your valuable treasures you find you are yet AGAIN out of space.

The Solution: Store it at the post office!

How to Solve: First purchase a bunch of stationary, which is extremely cheap! Then go to the post office on Main Street and create letters with items attached. Instead of sending them, select “save mail”. This will give you an additional 18 pages of storage!

27. Unwanted Villagers

The Problem: A terrible villager has moved in (Rasher) and you just need them to leave. They are pretty much ruining everything.

The Solution: Ignore them. That’s it! Simple as that!

How to Solve: Now, people speculate that there are many different ways to get rid of villagers. 1. To talk to them a lot 2. To hit them with a net repeatedly or 3. To Ignore them. After much research, I have figured that ignoring them takes the least amount of time to get rid of the villager. First, when they move in, you will need to introduce yourself JUST ONCE. After that, avoid them like the plague. After one week they will ping you to notify you that they will be moving. Be sure to say yes you want them out!

26. Home Placement

The Problem: You have just made your mayor and Tom Nook is already forcing you into making decisions. Where should you build your home? Once you build it, you can’t move it, so choose wisely!

So, what is the ideal spot for your home?

The Solution: It is totally up to you, but I recommend building it somewhere convenient! Not, just aesthetically pleasing.

How to Solve: When you are asked where you would like to put your tent (your first home) I recommend putting it close to Re-tail. I made the mistake of building my home on the opposite end of Re-tail and I find myself constantly regretting it. I must run back and forth to sell items and it is just a pain! Learn from my mistake people!

*Note that your other character homes can be placed somewhere nice. Your mayor will most likely be your main character, who will be doing most of the bell farming.

25. MEOW Coupons

The Problem: You can’t get enough of those amazing MEOW Coupons

The Solution: If you have done all the daily tasks given by the MEOW machine, use a handy dandy amiibo!

How to Solve: If you have any of the Animal Crossing New Leaf/Sanrio ACNL/Legend of Zelda amiibos, then go ahead and scan them in via the magic lamp once a day. Every time you scan in an amiibo you will receive 5 MEOW coupons!

24. Sell for Extra Bells

The Problem: You just can’t get enough bells.

The Solution: Enact/Change your towns ordinance.

How to Solve: If you have 100% approval rating from your villagers you may go to your town hall and sit in the leather chair behind the desk. Isabelle will ask what you would like to do. Select the Bell Boom ordinance and all the items you sell will go up in price! Keep in mind that you should not buy items while you have this ordinance because the prices are higher on the seller’s end as well.

23. Sleepy Cyrus

TThe Problem: Cyrus is always asleep at his workstation in Re-tail and you are always told not to bother him by Reese. But, then why is he there? How do you wake him up?

The Solution: Sell more items to Re-tail!

How to Solve: All you’ll have to do is sell 100,000 bells worth of items to Reese in Re-tail. The next time you visit Re-tail a cut scene with Cyrus will begin!

22. Customize Furniture

The Problem: How do you make that cute pillowcase you’ve seen on Pinterest? How did they get that different color ice cream lamp?

The Solution: Bring customizable furniture to Cyrus in Re-tail. He will prompt you by asking you how you would like to change the furniture. Some furniture you may even upload a design or QR code you have previously saved to make the furniture even more customizable!

21. Mini Dinosaur Replica

The Problem: You just want a tiny freaking dinosaur in your house!

The Solution: Have Cyrus make you one!

How to Solve: Once you have dug up all the fossils you need to create one whole dinosaur and have had them appraised, keep them in your pocket! I repeat, DO NOT DONATE THEM. Bring all the pieces of the dinosaur to Cyrus and he will ask if you would like a miniature model of the dinosaur. And, of course you do! They are adorable!

20. Where to Sell

The Problem: Should you sell at Re-tail or Nookling Junction?

The Solution: Sell at Re-tail!

How to Solve: You will earn more bells selling to Re-tail so, that’s where you should sell! I use Nookling Junction for my buying needs only.

19. Premium Items

The Problem: You are missing out on extra bells!

The Solution: Check the chalk board outside of Re-tail daily.

How to Solve: Outside of Re-tail there is a green chalk board and every day it will list a new premium item they are seeking. If you bring that item the same day, you will receive even more bells than usual! (If you have Bell Boom ordinance in play you will have 2 premium items daily instead of just the 1)

18. Furniture Rut

The Problem: You just seem to keep getting the same furniture items in Nookling Junction and the campsite. You know there is other furniture to be had but you just don’t know how to access it.

The Solution: Visit friend’s towns!

How to Solve: Chances are your other friends that play ACNL are receiving different furniture in their town than what you have. Ask to visit their town and make sure it is ok if you buy the furniture on Main Street. If you are like me and don’t have many friends that play, there are many groups online and on Facebook that would love to help! Some groups even have an “item service” where you will give them a list of furniture you want, and they will “hack” the items into their town for you to grab! Neat huh?

17. Mushrooms

The Problem: You would like to have forest-y mushrooms grow in your town!

The solution: Chop down some trees!

How to Solve: Using a silver or gold ax, cut down some trees in your town. If the stump has a special design in the center, it is considered a special stump. Do not dig up the stump, leave it and everyday a mushroom should grow by it.

16. Bickering Villagers

The Problem: Are you tired of coming outside and seeing your adorable little villager arguing!? Here is how to stop them.

The Solution: Get villagers whose personalities don’t clash.

How to Solve: Some villagers are more likely to get along than others. Here is an in-depth chart on villagers that are less likely to argue than others! Let’s keep the peace people!

15. Kick’s Shoe Shop

The Problem: You need more shoes, obviously!

The Solution: Acquire Kick’s Shoe Shop

How to Solve: Spend a minimum of 8k bells inside of the Able Sister’s store. You must have played at least10 days before Kick’s will begin its construction.

14. The Roost

The Problem: Your town has everything you might need, besides somewhere to eat!

The Solution: Building the Roost Café.

How to Solve: First you must donate at least 50 items to the museum on Main Street. One in each of the categories (Fossils, Art, and Aquarium). After that, Blathers will ask you to build The Roost as a PWP. Voila!

13. A Job

The Problem: You aren’t busy enough running the entire town as mayor,you need another job!

The Solution: Get hired at The Roost.

How to Solve: For a week, purchase a coffee every day. After the week is up Brewster will offer you a job as a barista! A fun little mini-game where you can earn presents for serving villagers and NPC’s their favorite coffee!

12. Fashion Check

The Problem: Passing Gracie’s fashion check seems impossible!

The Solution: Many people have their own opinions on how to pass the fashion check, but I always recommend using a fool proof guide.

How to Solve: Here is the guide I prefer to use to pass all my checks!

11. Shampoodle

The Problem: You would like to change your hairstyle or eye color but don’t have a hair salon yet.

The Solution: Acquire and build Shampoodle!

How to Solve: After Kick’s shoe store is open you will then need to spend a total of 10k bells in either Kick’s or the Able Sister’s shops. After that, Shampoodle will begin construction!

10. Hair and Eye Changes

The Problem: How do you change your hair cut and eye color?

The Solution: Visit Shampoodle for some well-deserved pampering!

How to Solve: Visit the shop upstairs and sit in one of the salon chairs. How to change your appearance is a bit cryptic so here is a chart of how to achieve the look you want!

9. Bird feed

The Problem: You just want to hang out with Harvey and feed the birds!

The Solution: Keep bothering him!

How to Solve: When you see Harvey at the campsite feeding the birds, continue to bother him by talking to him selecting the “Heya Harv” option. Eventually, he will give you bird seed to throw as well!

8. Records

The Problem: You have a radio/record player but no records to play.

The Solution: Attend a K.K Slider concert!

How to Solve: Go to Club LOL on a Saturday night and sit in a seat to hear K.K Slider play guitar live. The next day you will receive a record in the mail! *Note to stay until the end of his song to receive the record. You may request certain songs, or he will pick one at random. There are plenty of songs to acquire in-game!

7. Music box

The Problem: You just wish you had a cute little seashell music box.

The Solution: Have Cyrus make you one!

How to Solve: After you have woken up Cyrus, you can bring him a seashell and a K.K Slider song and he will combine the two items into a cute little music box! This will cost you bells though.

6. Campsite Tent

The Problem: You don’t have any amiibos but you would like to move in new characters!

The Solution: Build the PWP campsite!

How to Solve: If you build the campsite tent, every once in a while a new villager will visit your town for a day. If you HAVE SPACE and continue to bother them, they eventually ask if you would like them to move into town. The maximum villagers you can have is 10, so you must have 9 or less for them to move in.

5. Lost and Found

The Problem: An item was left about town and now it is gone!

The Solution: If you build the PWP Police Station, an item that has disappeared from around town will end up in the lost and found here! Good ol’ Booker and Copper!

4. The Island?

The Problem: You have heard me go on about the island, but you have no way to get to the island yet!

The Solution: Pay off your first loan!

How to Solve: After earning enough bells to pay off your first home upgrade, take it to Tom Nook on Main Street. You will then get pinged by Cap’n to come down to the docks and visit him. And, Voila! Access to the island.

3. Not so Lucky Duck

The Problem: You are having an off day,You keep tripping and bees/mosquitos keep coming after you! You are having what’s considered a “bad luck” day.

The Solution: Change your own luck!

How to Solve: If Katrina is in town for that day, have your fortune told and she will tell you your “lucky item” for the day. If you wear the lucky item, it will change your luck for the day! If she is not in your town however, but you own the pink lovely phone, you may call and get your fortune for the day and that will also provide you your lucky item.

2. Elusive Snails

The Problem: You are trying to complete your bug Journal and are like me and cannot seem to find that dang snail anywhere!

The Solution: Landscape with bushes FIRST!

How to Solve: If you have not landscaped your town yet, and have no bushes, the chances of catching a snail are not likely. I found the most success I had was by planting a bush and hunting for the snails while it rained. Snails galore!

1. Creativity rut

The Problem: You are in a rut. You don’t know what you want to do with your town or how to decorate your multiple homes. You have rooms in your museum that need to be decorated as well and you just don’t have any ideas!

The Solution: Pinterest!

How to Solve: I have had this problem sooooo often! And, I often visit Pinterest pages to get inspiration and ideas on what style I like and what I can do with the furniture I already own. You would be surprised at all the different combinations the furniture you already have can make! And, lastly Just have fun! This game is meant to relax and let your imagination flow! So, lay back, relax, and let the comforting music take your ideas to a whole new level!

What Makes Epona Awesome

Epona is a hard to come by villager, seeing that most people do not have this amiibo.
When she is scanned in, she will show up in an RV selling a number of Zelda themed items and artifacts. Including the infamous moon from Majora’s Mask.
A Fun fact would be that Epona’s birthday pays homage to the release date of Ocarina of Time.

Epona is a little trickier to move in and can only be obtained by using a Zelda amiibo. The following all work via the magic lamp to move them into your town.

Kabuki is a cat villager who’s bigger than life personality outweighs his cranky attitude. He brings a livelihood to any town. I mean just look at the silly guy!

He is modeled after tradition Japanese Kabuki actors right down to the detailed face paint.
Japanese themed homes and towns are all the rage and Kabuki’s home will fit right in! If you are hoping for a missing piece of Japanese furniture, there is a chance Kabuki will offer some right from his home.
Although Kabuki is quite cranky, he doesn’t feel nearly as mean as some of the other villagers. Instead his personality often makes me giggle rather than be mad at him.

Drago is the only dragon style villager. His base type is that of an alligator, but he has so much going on with his design that he looks like another species entirely.
His house is special too, in the way that it doesn’t look much like a home but a tasty Chinese restaurant!

His house is a fun house. Like, literally, a fun house. It almost appears to be some sort of optical illusion.
He is the only true rainbow-colored villager. So, if you are looking for a pop of color or a big personality to add to your town, Pietro is your man!
If you are a female player, then Pietro may also occasionally flirt with you.You lucky girl!

Ankha makes sense historically. Her pharaoh design makes sense seeing that cats were worshiped as gods by Egyptians.
Her catchphrase “All that glitters is not gold” fits her personality to a T. Yet another reference to the wealth that Pharaohs had in that era.
Lastly, her house seems to have jumped straight out of an Indiana Jones movie. It resembles a tomb giving you a theme to play around with for your town.

What Makes Merengue Awesome

Merengue seems to have more of a backstory than any other character. Her dream is to be a chef and that is why she sports a chef coat.
Her design, name and even catch phrase follow her theme as well. She has a strawberry as a horn and even has a dollop of whipped cream on her head. Her design as a strawberry shortcake goes even one step further by having her catch-phrase be “shortcake”!
I always find she is such a pleasant character to talk to and never have I seen her upset or angry. She is such a joy to be around and do favors for!

And finally, we have come to our number one spot! Everyone’s favorite sheep, Etoile! She is a dreamy pastel sheep that has no business being that adorable.

What Makes Etoile Awesome

Etoile is another special amiibo character, however she is even a little rarer than even the Zelda amiibo villagers. She has come from the Sanrio amiibo set of cards sold exclusively from Japan. Better start searching Ebay!
In addition, she goes hand in hand with the Little Twin Stars furniture collection. When she comes to town, she will bring her RV where this set of furniture may be purchased.
Etoile is not only one of the most sought-after villagers she is by far one of the most Kawaii/girly characters in game. An overall must have for any town.

How to Get Etoile

Etoile as mentioned before is a bit harder to come by. I recommend purchasing her Sanrio S3 Little Twin Stars card via Ebay or Amazon. You would go ahead and scan the card through the magic lamp as you would any other amiibo. Keep in mind once you invite her, she is there to stay. Unless, you ask her to move out.

Animal Crossing New Leaf Best Ordinance Guide

You sit down in your big leather office chair and Isabelle hands you your first project as mayor, issuing an ordinance! So, what is an ordinance? Well, an ordinance lets you determine what kind of town you and your villagers will live in. Now, not anybody can just make ordinances.

You must do your duty as mayor first! Before passing an ordinance, you will have to have a 100% approval rating from your town. This can be done by doing a variety of tasks including; pulling weeds, donating items to the museum, sending a letter, introducing yourself to each villager, etc.

Finally, you’re ready to pass an ordinance! But which is best? What do they do?

Well, let’s explore these options together.

Isabelle trying to convince us to be early birds. Who needs coffee when you can play Animal Crossing nice and early?!

#4. The Early Bird Ordinance

Applying this ordinance will have your town up bright and early. Your shops on Main Street will be open 3 whole hours early and your villagers will be awake 3 hours earlier to greet you to the new day.

Get This Ordinance if…

If you too are an early bird and are tired of finding your shops closed every morning, this ordinance may be the one for you. Because we all know, early bird gets the worm!
If you would like to opt out of time traveling and could use a few extra hours visiting with your villagers in the morning. If you are a time traveler like myself, this ordinance will be irrelevant for you.

#3 The Night Owl/Nightlife Ordinance

Get This Ordinance If…

If you are like me and can’t seem to sleep at night and use Animal Crossing to put yourself to sleep. It is nice to be able to use your shops well after closing hours.
If you only are able to play at night and do not prefer to use the “time travel” method, then the night owl ordinance allows you to visit with your villagers late into the night. If you do time travel, this ordinance will be irrelevant for you.

#2 The Wealthy Town/Bell Boom Ordinance

CHA CHING!

Now, I know what your thinking. You’re thinking how a Wealthy Town ordinance could possibly not be in the number 1 spot. And yes, it does help you sell items for more bells, however, the amount you PAY for items is also at a higher price. To sweeten the deal though, Re-tail will give you TWO premium items per day rather than their usual one. This ordinance overall helps the economy of your town.

Get This Ordinance If…

If you have just started a new game and need to make fast bells ) this ordinance will definitely help!
If you don’t plan on buying much from your shops in town then the higher prices for items won’t affect you.
If you are a new player this is the best ordinance to have at first. Then after you have earned plenty of bells and are ready to landscape, switch ordinances!
If you have saved up many of the premium items needed at Re-tail. So, in the event that you have played the game for quite a while, there is a chance you have saved up many items. If you need to get rid of these items, you might as well sell them at a premium!

#1 The Beautiful Town Ordinance

In case you don't have a green thumb and are terrified of cockroaches in your home!

This is by far a favorite among the Animal Crossing New Leaf community. You get the most perks from choosing this ordinance and in turn have less work to do around your town. This Beautiful Town ordinance prevents flowers from wilting and trash from showing up in your river. You will also find your villagers out and about more often, planting and watering flowers for you. Lastly, little to no weeds/dandelions will show up daily, saving you time from picking each weed by hand. This leaves you with more time to fish/catch bugs, and you know what they say, time is money!

Get This Ordinance if…

If you are planning on breeding flowers and will have far too many to water on your own.
If you are tired of paying to recycle trash from your river.
If you hate seeing cockroaches in your home.
If you want to see your villagers in town more often.
If you hate pulling all those pesky weeds.
If you are trying to maintain a “perfect town” in order to grow Jacob’s Ladder.

And, my last advice to you is not to be afraid to change your ordinance frequently depending on your town. As your town evolves different ordinances may help your town. Hopefully, all of this information has given you some sort of idea on how to conduct business as your town’s new mayor!
