Big ships need big guns. And in Warframe, the Railjack is one of the biggest ships there are. Requiring an entire crew to pilot, fight, and repair, playing with Railjacks is unlike any other spaceship type game I’ve ever played or seen (comment down below if you know of any similar multiplayer spaceship gameplay mechanics in other games ‘cause I’d love to give them a shot).

But sharing a ship with a crew means you need the great equipment and weapons to satisfy their bloodlust enjoyment in the game. You’d want the other players of your ship to be able to use your ship’s weapon systems to the fullest.

Each Railjack has several weapon systems, there are the turrets, the ordnance, and the forward artillery.

Of these, the turrets offer the most variation. It is generally considered that the Vidar and Zetki variants are the best; with Zetki offering more damage at the cost of overheating faster. For the sake of this list, I will suggest both variants for the turrets, it’s up to you to decide if you want to go for better damage (Zetki) or better efficiency (Vidar).

10. Vidar/Zetki Apoc Mk III (Turret)

The better version of the OG turret.

Surprised to see the starter turret make it to the list? Well, the Mk III Vidar and Zetki variants are actually pretty decent weapons and are worth giving a shot if you don’t have anything better yet.

Plus, it’s the weapon you start out with so you should be used to how it works, it’ll just have a better overall damage output than the first Apoc.

Blasting out criticals:

The Vidar variant has a critical chance of 28% while the Zetki has 30%. Both are amazing stats that can allow you to consistently land critical hits.

Spraying and praying:

You got a rapid-fire weapon with infinite ammo, and quick reload speed. Go wild and let loose with it. You know you want to.

9. Vidar/Zetki Laith Mk III (Turret)

Rule the vacuum of space with this.

The Laith is a turret that I feel is similar to the Quartakk primary weapon. For those of you unfamiliar, the Quartakk shoots multiple bullets simultaneously (like a shotgun round with no spread). The Laith fires 8 packed pieces of shrapnel.

Due to its nature, each shot from the Laith packs a punch and it’s best used to take out stronger enemies compared to the other turrets which are more useful against swarms.

Close range combat:

The Laith has a limited effective range meaning that it’s most effective when used up close and personal.

Criticals:

With the Vidar version having a 39% critical chance and the Zetki having 24%, you’ll be able to take out high priority targets without having to rely on your ordnance and Tunguska cannon too much.

8. Vidar/Zetki Glazio Mk III (Turret)

Snowball shooter 5000

Nothing embodies the coldness of space better than smashing icebergs into enemy ships. The Glazio is a slow-firing auto-cannon that launches icy projectiles with insane critical capabilities.

This weapon also has incredible range so it makes for a decent sniper, it doesn’t fire hit-scan projectiles though so it takes some aiming skills to effectively use the Glazio in long-range engagements.

The Vidar version’s 47% is already amazing but the Zetki’s 50% is the highest critical chance among all turrets. Every version of Glazio also has a 2.5x critical multiplier This makes the Glazio the king of criticals among turrets.

Aside from being a long-ranged, crit-dealing beast, the Glazio also has a very high base damage (second among the turrets only to the Cryophon) allowing it to take out ships with minimal amounts of shots and from a distance.

Get your Tie/X Wing fighter fix with the Talyn high-speed turret. It takes a little time, as it has to spool-up first before reaching its max fire rate, but when it gets there, get ready to unleash heat.

Since the Talyn’s bullets are hit-scan, your NPC crewmen can use them effectively and be able to land pretty much every shot they fire.

Searing ships:

The Vidar and Zetki versions have a status chance of 20% and 30% respectively. Combine that with the lightning-fast fire rate, and you're going to be causing a lot of the Sear status effect that comes with the Railjack Fire-type damage. The Sear status effect deals damage over time.

The Pulsar’s shots are hit-scan which means it’s great in the hands of your crew who’ll almost never miss with it even with long-range shots.

The Vidar and Zetki versions have a critical chance of 24% and 26% respectively which are pretty impressive numbers that will allow you to deal critical shots regularly.

Dealing status effects:

The Vidar and Zetki versions have a status chance of 20% and 10% respectively. It may not be as great as its critical chances but you should still be able to casually stun your enemies with the Vort’s electric status effect.

4. Tycho Seeker Mk III (Ordnance)

Your enemies aren’t getting away from these heat-seeking babies.

Now we go into the ordnances, there are currently only three types (with three variations each). These armaments are your secondary mode of attack and have limited ammo so they’re best saved for high-priority targets.

The Tycho Seeker is an ordnance that, true to its name, fires homing missiles that can pretty much take out a majority of enemy ships with a single pull of the trigger.

With limited ammo, comes unlimited potential. The Tycho Seeker Mk III deals a jaw-dropping 39,168 Blast damage per shot. It also has a critical chance of 50% which is the highest among all ordnances allowing you to take out heavy targets easily.

Chasing down fast-moving ships:

Fighting in space with enemies being able to move however they want in any direction can be confusing and you’ll be losing track of enemy movements a lot if you’re not used to it. This makes the Tycho Seeker’s homing capabilities really useful to chase down enemies you can’t seem to hit.

3. Tunguska Cannon (Forward Artillery)

Pierce through the heavens with the mighty Tunguska Cannon!

The only forward artillery in the game, and the only one you should ever need up to the foreseeable future. The Tunguska Cannon fire a shot that takes 4 seconds to charge and will absolutely obliterate any ship that it hits.

It will even take out enemy Crewships which can normally only be destroyed by boarding them and destroying them from the inside.

The Tunguska Cannon has limited ammunition though so it should only be used in emergencies or when your victory is already assured. However, once you’ve reached Engineering rank 5 you will be able to craft more of the Tunguska Cannon’s ammo.

What the Tunguska Cannon excels at:

Sniping Crewships and other heavy-duty ships:

This is the Tunguska Cannon’s primary function, to take out ships that can’t be taken down by your ship’s other weapon systems. You should try to save the Tunguska Cannon for this purpose unless you're playing a low-level mission and are just messing around (because why not fire the biggest baddest weapon at a single small enemy fighter?).

2. Milati Mk III (Ordnance)

Don’t fire until you see the shine of their cockpits.

The Milati acts as a smaller, more accessible Tunguska Cannon. It has a shorter range and won’t be able to take out Crewships, but in terms of pure damage, the Milati is the next best thing to have. It fires 12 rockets that can wipe out almost anything that’s directly in front of your Railjack.

The Milati doesn’t have the heat-seeking properties of the Tycho Seeker though so you’ll have to get up close and personal to make sure all 12 rockets hit your target.

Destroying high-level ships:

If you can make sure, every rocket finds its mark, the Milati has the highest base damage among all the ordinances. This will allow you to straight-destroy anything short of a Crewship-type enemy.

Controlling crowds:

Other than taking out single targets, you could also fire the Milati into a dense cloud of enemies to thin out their numbers.

1. Vidar/Zetki Photor Mk III (Turret)

Shields? How boring.

The Photor turret doesn’t have the highest base damage. It doesn’t have the greatest critical or status chance. It doesn't even have the fastest fire-rate. So why is it on top?

The answer lies in a special characteristic this weapon has: Punch Through.

What this means is that shots from the Photor will completely ignore the shields of Corpus Crewships and damage its health directly, allowing you to decommission these high-priority targets faster than normal.

As stated above, the Photor will bypass shields and damage the ship’s health directly.

Landing critical hits:

Despite not being the reason why it’s the best, the Vidar and Zetki variants of the Photor still have the admirable critical chances of 17% and 18% respectively. The Photor also fires fairly fast so you’ll be able to land a lot of critical hits on enemies whose shields are already rendered useless.

10. Galatine

The legendary sword of Gawain… in space.

We start out the list with a classic (at least by heavy blade standards). The Galatine doesn’t do anything crazy like shoot lasers or tear holes through dimensions. No no no, it’s just a good old-fashioned beat stick that you use to slice and pummel your enemies into submission.

It might not seem as impressive as the other weapons on the list but it’s one of the earliest heavy blades a player can get their hands on, and it’s a pretty good one to have at the early stages of the game.

What Galatine excels at:

Zoomin’:

The Galatine ties with the Masseter, Tenet Exec, and Galatine Prime with having the fastest attack speed among heavy blades. So you won’t feel the weight of a heavy blade as much but you’ll still be dealing the heavy blade damage.

Dishing out status effects:

The Galatine has a pretty decent status chance of 20%. Use this to deal whatever elemental or physical status effect you want on your enemies.

Cutting down health bars:

With its main damage being slash (172.9 slash damage), it’s most effective against enemies with high health and whose status effect ignores armor.

You can simply buy the Galatine’s blueprint from the in-game market. You can access the market from the console across the console where you access your quests.

9. Dark Split-Sword

Take control of the dark side, either of the dark sides.

Next on the list is the Dark Split-Sword. This weapon’s pretty interesting if you’ve had the chance to try it. Depending on the equipped stance mod, the Dark Split-Sword can function as either a Dual Swords or Heavy Blade weapon. Of course, we’ll concentrate on its latter mode.

What’s unique about the Dark Split-Sword is that it has innate Radiation damage. And since it has a high status chance, you can mod it to have a lot of elemental damages for a Condition Overload build.

What Dark Split-Sword excels at:

Radiation damage:

Having a natural 100 radiation damage means the Dark Split-Sword will have the upper hand against enemies with Alloy Armor, Infested Sinew, and Robotics types of armor.

Status effects:

With a status chance of 25%, you’ll best make use of this weapon by giving it various elemental effects. Make sure to use 60/60 mods and Condition Overload when going for this build.

8. Tenet Exec

This heavy blade is making waves!

As of currently, the only Tenet/Kuva heavy blade in the game. It’s also a weapon that doesn’t have a base form, meaning there’s currently no weapon in the game just called the “Exec”.

What makes the Tenet Exec special are its slam attacks. Both the normal and heavy slam attacks release shockwaves that deal impact damage and ragdoll your foes. This allows you to follow up with more attacks or make an escape should you need to do so.

Like Kuva Weapons, all Tenet weapons raise their max rank every time you apply a forma, capping at rank 40. It will also have bonus damage, the type of damage would depend on the Warframe used to spawn your Sister of Parvos.

What Tenet Exec excels at:

Having the Tenet Weapon bonuses:

The Tenet Exec, once you’ve used forma five times, will have a max level of 40. It also has the added bonus damage based on the progenitor element Ergo Glast had when you bought it.

Crowd control:

Use the shockwave mechanic to rock your enemies’ worlds! Knocking down entire groups of enemies makes managing their numbers much easier.

Landing (get it?) crits:

The Tenet Exec has an amazing critical chance of 38%. This ties it with the Heliocor as the third-highest critical chance among all melee weapons. And trust me that is a looong list of weapons. It also has an impressive 2.4x critical multiplier.

Prepare to see yellow, orange, and red numbers on your screen every time you take a swing.

You can get this heavy blade from Ergo Glast in the Perrin Sequence room on any of the Relays. It can be bought for 40 Corrupted Holokeys.

7. Zenistar

Burn the image of this axe into your enemies’ minds and skulls.

We all know that heavy blades wield a lot of power, but how about one that has the power of a star (Disclaimer:ItdoesnotactuallysaythattheZenistarhasthepowerofastar. Thewriter’sopinionsarehisandhisalone).

In case you're not sure what you’re seeing in the pic above, the Zenistar is a big axe that’s constantly on fire.

The gimmick with this weapon is that its heavy attack launches a flaming disc that deals impact damage if it hits an enemy and then explodes for heat damage.

What Zenistar excels at:

Roasting fools:

The Zenistar has innate heat damage, making it highly effective against Flesh-based enemies (or enemies that have exposed flesh).

Spreading status:

In the heavy blade family, the Zenistar has the second-highest status chance (30%) making a build with multiple status effects easily viable on this weapon.

AOE:

When the flaming disc lands, it actually stays for 10 seconds and will continue to deal damage to any enemies around it, making that area hostile to them. Keep in mind though that performing another heavy attack will cause the disc to prematurely come back.

How to get Zenistar:

The only way to get the Zenistar is through the Daily Login Rewards system. You can select it among other exclusive weapons on day 100. If you choose not to pick the Zenistar, it will become available again every other 200 days (so the next time it appears after 100 would be 300). It will continue appearing every 200 days until it is selected.

6. Scindo Prime

Chop down the competition with the Scindo Prime.

Next, we go to another war axe. The Scindo Prime doesn’t have a special effect but it more than makes up for it with its impressive stats and reliability.

Although it may not have any unique attributes on its own, it has a skin called the Manticore skin that actually has an effect. It increases damage by 15% while reducing attack speed by the same amount.

What Scindo Prime excels at:

Criticalizing:

The Scindo Prime has a critical chance of 26% (4th highest among heavy blades) and a critical multiplier of 2.4x (tied with the Tenet Exec as the 2nd highest critical multiplier among heavy blades).

Statusimifying:

With a 24% status chance, you can also go for a status build with this weapon (it’s up to you whether you want to focus more on its crits or stats).

5. Galatine Prime

This ain’t your dad’s Galatine.

The Galatine’s big brother has come a long way. With improved base damage, critical chance, and status chance, the Galatine Prime is simply a direct upgrade. Its attack speed is untouched though, but it’s still the highest attack speed among heavy blades so can’t really complain.

Similar to the base Galatine, this one doesn’t have any special gimmicks. And honestly, most of the heavy blades further down the list don’t have crazy, mind-blowing tricks (the next one has a doozy of an effect though). I guess the best heavy blades embody the less is more ideology.

What Galatine Prime excels at:

Versatility:

The Galatine Prime has an equal critical chance and status chance of 26%. This means you can focus your mod build on either one of these or give it a little bit of both if you want.

Fast slashes:

Tied with the Galatine, Masseter, and Tenet Exec with having the fastest attack speed among heavy blades.

4. Vitrica

A glass cannon gets broken easily. A glass sword on the other hand…

Nihil’s personal weapon, the Vitrica was originally used by this Orokin executioner to punish dissidents to the Orokin Empire. In your hands, you use it to petrify your enemies before shattering them to itty bitty pieces… maybe we are the bad guys.

Attacking while Aim Gliding will unleash a projectile that will turn enemies to glass for 7 seconds. Following this up with a slam attack on the glassed enemies will deal a huge bonus damage.

What Vitrica excels at:

Stunning enemies:

As stated above, you can turn your enemies into glass for 7 whole seconds. Also, the radius of effect is 5 meters, allowing you to glass multiple enemies at once.

Being a status beast:

The Vitrica has a jaw-dropping 33% status chance (the highest among heavy blades). Making this the ideal heavy weapon to use when you want to maximize the Condition Overload mod.

Bringing the pain:

Shattering glassed enemies with a slam attack deals 999 damage, which will be further increased by any damage mods you add to the weapon, elemental mods also count towards this.

Aside from this, the Vitrica has the highest base damage among all heavy blades so you can make your enemies feel the full wrath of the heavy blade.

How to get Vitrica:

Initially available through the Nightwave Series 3, Episode 5 boss battle. Now the boss battle is only accessible via an Enter Nihil's Oubliette Key and a Nihil's Oubliette decoration which can be bought from the Nightwave shop.

3. War

It’s not stealing if you take it from a Stalker… I guess… I don’t know.

This is the blade gifted to the Shadow Stalker in the Second Dream Quest before it gets broken in half. No worries though, you can repair it with a Broken War and a War Blueprint that drops from the Shadow Stalker himself.

Once you have it, make your enemies quake in fear with the fearsome sentient’s heavy blade. Also, make them quake by slamming this gigantic thing into their skulls.

Despite being a “blade”, the War deals mostly impact damage. It also has an attribute wherein every enemy you hit that doesn’t get knocked out by War will get an Impact status effect.

What War excels at:

Critical pain:

The War is tied with the Galatine Prime and Scindo Prime with having the third-highest critical chance among heavy blades (26%). It also ties with Gram Prime and Paracesis with having the highest critical multiplier of 2.6x.

Armor breaking:

The fact that the War can constantly proc Impact effects makes it an amazing candidate for Shattering Impact which can make you quickly strip enemies of their armor.

How to get War:

The War’s blueprint has a 2.77% chance to drop from the Shadow Stalker.

2. Gram Prime

Take it one massive swing at a time with the Gram Prime.

This is what some would say to be the embodiment of the heavy blade. It may have a weighty feel to it due to its slow attack speed, but it’s weight worth having.

This mighty sword is one of the highest damaging heavy blades out there (if not the highest damaging heavy blade) when comparing base attributes.

What Gram Prime excels at:

Raw damage:

This weapon’s base damage ranks second among all heavy blades (300 base damage). So smash your way to victory!

Crits:

Critical chance: 32% (second highest heavy blade crit chance). Critical multiplier: 2.6x (highest heavy blade crit multiplier). What more needs to be said?

Dealing status effects:

The Gram Prime has the second-highest status chance among heavy blades (32%) chance, making this weapon deal tons of status effects even if you decide to go for a full-critical build.

If you’ve ever read The Lightning Thief (spoiler alert if you haven’t), the Paracesis is like Luke Castellan’s gift to Percy, the winged shoes. Really cool and really helpful but was actually intended to kill the user. The Paracesis has the third-highest critical chance among heavy blades (31%), and ties with the other top contenders in this list with having the highest critical multiplier (2.6x).

Ripping through Sentients:

True to its nickname, this thing slays Sentients. For each additional level above 30, the Paracesis gains bonus damage against Sentient enemies. This weapon can also be used to clear Sentient damage resistances.

Versatility in Modding:

Since its true max rank is 40, this makes the Paracesis way more open to better, more expensive mods and allows you to better optimize or fulfill whatever build you want to use on it.

Arcanes are some of the more underused or even ignored systems in Warframe. To some, they just feel like optional mods that require a little extra hassle to pick, farm and equip. Admittedly the Arcane system is also one of the more confusing things to get the hang of in a game that’s already jam-packed with stuff you need to learn and master.

But when you finally get the hang of it and you pick the right Arcane for the right equipment piece for the right mission, they can be a huge help to get you through some of the game’s tougher/grindier parts.

Picking out which Arcane is objectively the “best” isn’t easy either. With the addition of the new Zariman Arcanes this April, there are currently 98 Arcanes spread out between Warframes and various weapon types.

That being said, these are what I’ve deemed to be the Arcanes that see the most use in Warframe (tell me in the comments whether you agree or not, and what you think are the best).

11. Arcane Nullifier (Warframe Arcane)

Never worry about getting your expensive robot ninjas too close to magnets ever again!

The Arcane Nullifier took a big hit in the recent Eximus update, being able to use abilities just isn’t as high-priority when enemies that are immune to them are constantly roaming around.

However, it’s still incredibly useful. Especially for newer players who are having trouble maintaining their energy reserves in missions with enemies with magnetic procs. It’s also very useful in Eidolon hunts if you can’t seem to avoid getting the magnetic status effect from injured Eidolons (protip: getting on a K-drive is also really effective in being resistant to the Eidolon’s magnetic procs).

What Arcane Nullifier does:

Trigger: None, it is a passive effect, constantly taking effect.
Chances of taking effect (per rank): 17% / 34% / 51% / 68% / 85% /102%
Effect: Will give you resistance to Magnetic status effect (guaranteed resistance at max rank).

How to get Arcane Nullifier:

Currently only available from Eidolon hunts. There is a 12.05% chance of this Arcane dropping every time you kill or capture an Eidolon Teralyst.

10. Magus Glitch (Operator Arcane)

Make your Operator more reliable with this Arcane.

Unlike the Arcane Nullifier, the Magus Glitch Arcane saw a humongous boost in usefulness from one of the new updates. Before it, this Arcane was hardly ever even used.

The said update is the Focus School System Rework 3.0 which came in April 2022. Here, the effects of Transference Static were altered. Specifically its effect on the 4th Operator death, instead of just more health debuffs, your Warframe immediately enters bleedout (or death when you’re in solo).

This increased the need to keep your operator alive tenfold and so now this Arcane is really useful in tough missions where your Operator can be taken out easily. Once maxed, the Magus Glitch simply ignores any negative effects the Transference Static comes with.

A huge lifesaver for people who love using the Operator even on regular missions.

What Magus Glitch does:

Trigger: Transference Static (when your Operator receives fatal damage).
Chances of taking effect (per rank): 17% / 34% /51% / 68% / 85% / 102%

9. Magus Elevate (Operator Arcane)

Cheat death, and not by using Wukong. Shocking, I know.

Though risky to use when you don’t have it in max rank, when you do have it in max rank, you pretty much gain immortality.

An almost guaranteed 300 health every time you switch to your Warframe is huge! And for those of you skeptics, you can actually just spam transference in and out until you’ve reached max health. So yeah, whenever you’re having trouble surviving a mission, slap this baby on and watch your health bar shine.

What Magus Elevate does:

Trigger: Transference In (going from Operator to Warframe).
Chances of taking effect (per rank): 30% / 40% / 50% / 75% / 85% / 95%
Effect: Restores 50 / 100 / 150 / 200 / 250 / 300 health to your Warframe depending on the Arcane rank.

8. Arcane Avenger (Warframe Arcane)

Your crits are rookie numbers without this thing on you.

You will be receiving damage pretty regularly in this game anyway so Arcane Avenger is pretty much just a free constant boost in critical chance. Unless you’re using a Rhino Warframe or anything else that completely stops damage, this should be pretty easy to activate even if the max chance of it triggering is just 21%.

Pair this with weapons that have even just a somewhat decent critical chance and you’ll notice the difference in your damage output in no time.

What Arcane Avenger does:

Trigger: When you receive damage.
Chances of taking effect (per rank): 4% / 7% / 11% / 14% / 18% / 21%
Effect: Gives you an added 7.5% / 15% / 22.5% / 30% / 37.5% / 45% critical chance for 2 / 4 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 seconds depending on the Arcane rank.

How to get Arcane Avenger:

Currently only available from Eidolon hunts. There is an 11.70% and 11.24% chance of this Arcane dropping every time you kill or capture an Eidolon Hydrolyst respectively.

7. Eternal Eradicate (Amp Arcane)

Make your Operator sting a little harder with the Eternal Eradicate.

This is the most consistent/easiest to trigger Arcane for boosting your Amp’s damage output. Having to simply use an Operator ability (which you’ll be using all the time anyway) to trigger it makes it really convenient against Sentient enemies or even on the updated Eximus enemies (for those that don’t know, the new Eximus Overguard is 50% weak to your Amp’s Void damage).

The only issue with this Arcane is that for Eidolon hunts, it gets beaten by the next entry in effectiveness…

What Eternal Eradicate does:

Trigger: Using an Operator ability.
Chances of taking effect (per rank): Will always activate when trigger condition is met.
Effect: Increases Amp damage by 10% / 20% / 30% / 40% / 50% / 60% depending on Arcane rank for 8 seconds.

The go-to for most players in Eidolon hunting. Despite being harder to trigger than Eternal Eradicate, increasing the critical damage by 60% is WAY better than increasing the base damage by 60%. And since the current meta Amps for Eidolon hunts try for a really high critical chance, you’ll still be able to get the Arcane to take effect relatively regularly.

What Virtuous Strike does:

Trigger: When you deal critical damage.
Chances of taking effect (per rank): 5% / 10% / 15% / 20%
Effect: Increases critical damage by 15% / 30% / 45% / 60% for 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 seconds depending on Arcane rank.

How to get Virtuous Strike:

This Amp is basically a free boost to your ability duration with its incredibly simple trigger of just having your shields active.

Any Warframe that needs lots of duration will greatly benefit from having this Arcane equipped on them. Well, any Warframe that has shields that is.

What Molt Efficiency does:

Trigger: Whenever shields are active.
Chances of taking effect (per rank): Always active when shields are up.
Effect: Increases your ability duration by 1% / 2% / 3% / 4% / 5% / 6% per second for 6 seconds depending on Arcane rank. This means you can reach a maximum additional ability duration of 6% / 12% / 18% / 24% / 30% / 36% depending on Arcane rank.

With the incredibly simple trigger of just having your shields on, it might as well just be a passive effect! Use the Molt Vigor to extend your Warframe’s reach over your helpless enemies.

What Molt Vigor does:

Trigger: Using an Operator ability.
Chances of taking effect (per rank): Will always activate when trigger condition is met.
Effect: Adds 15% / 21% / 27% / 33% / 39% / 45% ability strength to the next ability cast in your Warframe.

3. Primary Merciless (Primary Weapon Arcane)

The Primary Arcane for Primary Weapons.

Some Arcanes may have monstrous stats but are too specific or hard to trigger to be of much general use like Primary Deadhead which requires you to have a weapon that can consistently deal headshots. That Arcane may have a larger damage boost than Primary Merciless, but it’s also significantly harder to trigger, and that’s why I decided to put Primary Merciless on this list due to it being useful in more situations.

However, if you have a loadout that fits, feel free to use Arcanes like Primary Deadhead and Primary Dexterity instead as the three Primary Arcanes are very similar.

What Primary Merciless does:

Trigger: 1st effect triggers whenever you perform a kill. 2nd and 3rd effects are passive, constantly taking effect (take note: the 2nd and 3rd effects only become available at max Arcane rank).
Chances of taking effect (per rank): Will always activate when the trigger condition is met.
Effect: This Arcane has 3 effects

1st effect: Increases primary weapon damage by 5% / 10% / 15% / 20% / 25% / 30% for 4 seconds depending on Arcane rank. This effect can stack 12 times which means you can reach a maximum additional primary weapon damage of 60% / 120% / 180% / 240% / 300% / 360% depending on Arcane rank.

2nd effect: Primary weapon reload speed increases by 30% at max rank.

3rd effect: Primary weapon maximum ammo increases by 100% at max rank.

How to get Primary Merciless:

This Arcane drops from Acolytes in Steel Path missions. There is a 16.67% chance of this Arcane dropping from any of the Acolytes.

2. Cascadia Overcharge (Secondary Weapon Arcane)

A great companion for a lot of Secondary Weapons.

Another super easy-to-activate Arcane with a ginormous effect. The Cascadia Overcharge gives you an unbelievable 300% critical chance for your secondary weapon just by having overshields.

A little fun fact, the Cascadia Overcharge actually used to be even more overpowered. It use to provide that 300% critical chance to ALL weapons, and not just your secondary. Turns out that was a mistake and got corrected fast. Damn shame isn’t it?

Trigger: Whenever overshields are active.
Chances of taking effect (per rank): Will always activate when trigger condition is met.

The Arcane connoisseur's gem.

And here it is. The single most wanted Arcane in Warframe. The game is mostly PvE, it’s also a game where skills play a huge role (despite the new Eximus update). So it’s no surprise that an Arcane that provides energy for skill to your teammates will make it this big.

Arcane Energize is so valuable, that a fully ranked Arcane Energize easily trades for 1,300 platinum. That’s amazing news for people who have extras and bad news for people who don’t have it yet, back to farming.

What Arcane Energize does:

Trigger: When you pick up an energy orb.

Chances of taking effect (per rank): 10% / 20% /30% / 40% / 50% / 60%

Effect: Gives your allies within 5 / 6 / 7 / 10 / 12 /15 meters 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 energy depending on Arcane rank. This has a cooldown of 15 seconds.

How to get Arcane Energize:

There are two ways of getting this Arcane.

Secondaries play a different role in Warframe than they do in other shooting games. If you’re an fps fan, you’ve probably heard the phrase “Switching to your sidearm is always faster than reloading.” But that’s not necessarily the case for this game as some primary weapons reload in the blink of an eye while some secondary weapons reload as if they were light machine guns.

No, they’re not meant to get a quick kill while your other weapon’s running low. Rather, they act as a second primary weapon that you use for different situations or enemy types.

Here are the top 10 arms you’d want at your side when your primary and melee weapons just won’t cut it.

(Note: For the sake of this list, I will also consider Kitgun chambers even though they can also be used as primary weapons depending on the other components attached to them)

10. Aksomati Prime

Making it to the 10th spot are the dual-wield, rapid-fire pistols: Aksomati Prime.

Two fun little facts about this weapon:

You’ll notice a lot of the dual-wield pistols in the game have the prefix “Ak” in their names. This most likely means “akimbo” or the art of dual-wielding weapons.

The second tidbit is that the base and prime versions of this weapon look, and even act, similar to the primary weapon “Soma” and “Soma Prime”. They’re all rapid-fire weapons that have an Auto-Spool feature. This means that these weapons need to fire a few shots before achieving their max firing rate.

What Aksomati Prime excels at:

Easy to control rapid-fire:

Another feature of the Aksomati Prime is that as its fire rate spools up, its accuracy actually increases. Making this weapon even more useful once it’s reached that point.

Dealing multiple critical hits quickly:

The Aksomati Prime has a critical chance of 24% and a critical multiplier of 3x (the third-highest critical multiplier among pistols). Combine that with the speedy fire rate and you’ll be seeing crits pop up fast and hard.

9. Lex Prime

The pocket sniper rifle we did not deserve.

If I could be totally biased, I’d probably put this classic way higher on the list. It just feels SO good (it also doesn’t hurt that I’ve got a pretty good riven mod for it).

The Lex Prime is essentially the Deagle (desert eagle) of Warframe. It has good accuracy and packs a massive punch per shot. It has a high recoil too but that’s the price you pay for absolutely wrecking people with the pull of a trigger (you can also fix the recoil with recoil mods).

Compared to its non-prime version, the Lex Prime features higher damage, critical chance, status chance, fire rate, and magazine.

What Lex Prime excels at:

Being a mini sniper rifle:

As I said earlier, the secondaries in this game fill whatever roles the rest of your arsenal doesn’t. So if you’ve got a shotgun for a primary, taking a Lex Prime to act as a long weapon isn’t a bad idea. It certainly feels like a sniper rifle without the scope that’s for sure.

One shotting:

The Lex Prime features a high base damage along with a high critical chance of 25%. Use this to take down high-priority targets quickly.

8. Sporelacer

Just another reason to put on face masks.

The Sporelacer is a Kitgun chamber that fires full auto when turned into a primary weapon and fires semi-auto when used as a secondary. If you’re new to Warframe, the Kitgun system is a “build-your-own-gun” experience the game offers where you assemble components of your choosing to make your own personal firearm. Obviously, we’ll focus on this thing being a secondary weapon here.

As a secondary weapon, the toxic projectiles this weapon fires deals area of effect (AOE) damage on impact and then splits into three bomblets that deal even more toxin damage.

What Sporelacer excels at:

Versatility:

Since it’s a Kitgun component, the Sporelacer has a ton of potential capabilities. It can match your playstyle easily with the right grip and loader. You can get the damage, fire rate, critical chance, and other attributes of the weapon just right for how you want to play the game.

Crowd control:

Seeing as its projectiles blow up, then multiply, the Sporelacer is ideal for keeping large numbers of enemies at bay.

Melting flesh:

The Sporelacer deals mainly Toxin damage which is best for targets with flesh, meat, and bones (like Corpus Crewmen). Its damage and status effect also ignores most shields in the game, the exception being the shields of boss enemies.

The Sporelacer blueprint is bought from Father in the Necralisk in Deimos. It is accessible starting at Neutral rank and costs 500 Entrati Standing.

7. Dex Furis

Ever had your significant other give you something like this during your anniversary?

The Dex Furis is a pleasant surprise for new players who’ve only been on Warframe for a year or less. If you’re one of those players, wait for the next anniversary to get a hold of this gem.

This weapon is a huge improvement from the normal Afuris. It sacrifices some of its base damage for critical chance, status chance, fire rate, magazine, and ammo capacity, and oh wow, is it a sacrifice that’s worth taking.

What Dex Furis excels at:

Unloading clips on foes in seconds:

Among the secondary weapon family, the Dex Furis has the second-highest fire rate (and the highest fire rate of the weapons in this list). Get your magazines ready and let it rip, figuratively and literally.

Being easily accessible with full modding capabilities:

You get the weapon in a relatively easy mission during Warframe’s anniversary. It also comes with a free weapon slot and is already fitted with an Orokin Catalyst allowing you to install your best mods right from the get-go.

Dealing status effects:

If modded properly, you could actually make this weapon reach 100% status chance. Now each of its dozens of shots per second inflicts whatever status effect you choose to put on it!

Popping nullifier bubbles:

Get rid of those pesky nullifier bubbles in a second with these rapid-fire pistols so you can get back to unleashing all of your Warframe’s abilities.

You get the Dex Furis by participating in the yearly anniversary alerts in March. You will get one with a free weapon slot and Orokin Catalyst already installed.

6. Akarius

Less John Wick, more Oppenheimer.

Now some of you might be challenging the notion of secondary weapons filling the roles of primary weapons. “Ok, what about rocket launchers, is there a secondary weapon that can fill that role?” you may be asking. And I may be answering with the Akarius.

They may not look like it, but these things fire homing rockets with a huge AOE.

If that’s not enough for you, the Akarius also has a feature where it reloads 50% faster while you’re sprinting. Also, lore-wise this weapon is owned by the Warframe Gauss. When you use this with Gauss as your frame, this weapon gets an additional 50% reload speed boost.

What Akarius excels at:

AOE:

The rocket’s explosion radius is 7.2 meters which is really big (also, the Akarius fires two rockets per tap, one for each gun). This allows you to easily manage hordes of enemies, whether you’re defending a point or are on the move since its reload speed improves while you sprint.

Not needing to be aimed:

Apart from having a sizable AOE, the rockets themselves also chase enemies, so you can just aim in their general direction and not have to worry about missing.

Sending opponents to space heaven:

The explosion of the rockets deals 419 blast damage which has the third-highest base damage among secondary weapons, allowing you to game-end mostly anything you face. Yes, I said game-end.

5. Tenet Cycron

Your sister dropped this. She seems nice.

The Tenet Cycron is a powerful secondary beam weapon. It shows increased base damage, and critical and status chance from its base counterpart. But it has a lot more differences with the base Cycron aside from just the usual stat improvements.

There are two significant changes. The first is that instead of dealing 8 puncture, 5 slash, and 10 radiation damage, the Tenet Cycron now deals 22 heat damage.

The second difference is that its beam now chains between enemies. What this means is that when the beam hits the enemy, instead of the beam ending there, it will latch on to another nearby enemy (only up to 7 meters). The beam chains twice so you can damage three enemies at once (it will only deal 60% of its total damage to the chained enemies, however).

As an added bonus, all Tenet weapons raise their max rank every time you apply a forma, capping at rank 40. It will also have bonus damage, the type of damage would depend on the Warframe used to spawn your Sister of Parvos.

What Tenet Cycron excels at:

Having endless ammo:

Like the base Cycron, the Tenet version also has the feature of refilling its own ammo 1 second after it stops shooting. It only takes another single second to fill an empty battery.

Both versions of the Cycrons cannot pick up ammo and can only reload in this manner.

Having the Tenet Weapon bonuses:

The Tenet Cycron, once you’ve used forma five times, will have a max level of 40. It also has the added bonus damage based on the Sister that spawned with it.

Causing status effects:

This weapon has a status chance of 40% which is pretty impressive. You can mod it even further so that it can be used to deal multiple status effects quickly.

How to get Tenet Cycron:

You can get this secondary weapon by vanquishing a Sister of Parvos that was generated with one. Sisters spawn with a random Tenet weapon though so it may take a while to get one to spawn with the Tenet Cycron.

4. Catchmoon

Best Kitgun Chamber in the market.

Widely considered as the best Kitgun chamber, the Catchmoon has been nerfed multiple times over the years, and yet it still manages to stay on top.

When used on a secondary weapon, the Catchmoon is a semi-automatic pistol that fires a large, high-damage dealing projectile. It’s a simple weapon that enforces the “less is more” ideology. It’s also a Kitgun so what you want it to specialize in depends on you entirely.

Its only limitation is that it has limited range. But the damage it deals more than makes up for this.

What Catchmoon excels at:

Versatility:

Like the Sporelacer, the Catchmoon can match your playstyle when you use the grip and loader that’s right for you.

Staggering enemies:

All enemies you hit within 9 meters will get an assured impact proc which staggers them. This allows you to escape or deal further damage for free.

Raw damage:

Of course, it will depend on the other components you choose, but any Kitgun with the Catchmoon chamber generally deals amazing damage.

If you’ve ever played Assassin’s Creed Unity, this thing is kind of like the Phantom Blade Arno uses. It’s a wrist-mounted mini crossbow. It doesn’t really get much cooler than that.

The Epitaph, like primary bow weapons, doesn’t make use of a magazine and instead draws directly from your main ammo pool.

The main gimmick with this weapon though is its charging mechanism. When you fire the Epitaph uncharged, it shoots an AOE projectile with a guaranteed Cold status effect. Fire the weapon charged and you get a piercing bolt that can hit multiple enemies in a line.

With the charged shot, the Epitaph has the highest critical chance (48%) of all secondaries, as well as an impressive 2.6x critical multiplier.

Status effects (also if you want it to):

On the other hand, the uncharged shot has the second-highest status chance (50%) among secondaries. So you can mod the Epitaph in a variety of ways since it’s good at both crits and status effects.

AOE (if you wan- you get the point):

As stated above, the uncharged shot deals AOE which is good whenever you find yourself heavily outnumbered.

How to get Epitaph:

The main blueprint and all the components are obtained through Void Storm missions on Earth Proxima, Venus Proxima, and Saturn Proxima. 2. Pyrana Prime

Dance to the beat of the Pyrana Prime.

An automatic shotgun disguised as a pistol. If that doesn’t sell you on the Pyrana Prime, I don’t know what will. Compared to its base counterpart, the Pyrana Prime has an improved magazine and reload speed but has worse damage and fire rate. That might sound really bad but don’t worry, it has a feature that saves it.

When the Pyrana Prime kills 3 enemies, with each kill performed within 2 seconds of the last one, you will get an “ethereal Pyrana”. Basically, a second Pyrana, which turns it into a dual-wield weapon for 6 seconds. While in this mode, the magazine size doubles and fire-rate is increased by an incredible 40%.

What Pyrana Prime excels at:

Bringing the pain:

The Pyrana Prime has a critical chance of 24% chance. And that’s per pellet (each shot fires 10 pellets) so you’re pretty much going to get a couple of crits every time you fire your gun, considering most of your shots land of course.

Bringing the pain quickly:

If you can trigger the ethereal Pyranna effect, you’ll have your automatic shotguns firing nonstop to spray endless pellets on your enemies.

1. Kuva Nukor

Evaporate whoever’s in your way with the Kuva Nukor!

If you liked the Tenet Cycron from earlier, you’ll LOVE the Kuva Nukor. Well, to be fair, if you like the secondary weapons in general, you’ll love this weapon.

The Kuva Nukor is also a beam weapon with the added effect of chaining up to two enemies (up to 9 meters instead of the Tenet Cycron’s 7 meters). The Kuva Nukor also has a higher status chance than the Tenet Cycron (50% vs 40%).

But the main reason why this weapon takes the top spot is a hidden status effect called “microwave”. The effect itself isn’t that amazing, it simply enlarges the body part that the beam hits. But this status effect has an infinite duration and it also helps stacks with the mod Condition Overload which has been a player favorite for a long time for increasing damage dealt.

Also, as with all Kuva Weapons, the Kuva Nukor’s max rank increases every time you apply a forma, capping at rank 40. It will also have bonus damage, the type of damage would depend on the Warframe used to spawn your Kuva Lich.

The Kuva Nukor, once using forma five times, will have a max level of 40. It also has the added bonus damage based on the Kuva Lich that spawned with it.

Deleting crowds:

With a status chance of 50%, the Kuva Nukor ties with the Epitaph in having the second-highest status chance among all secondary weapons. As said earlier, synergize this weapon with Condition Overload to maximize your damage output.

You can get this secondary weapon by vanquishing a Kuva Lich that was generated with one. Liches spawn with a random Kuva weapon though so it may take a while to get one to spawn with a Kuva Nukor.

Whether hunting the titanic Eidolons on Earth or lying low aboard a Grineer ship as the operator, the Amp is one of your most important tools (probably second only to the Warframes themselves). These wrist-mounted void cannons can help you get out of a pickle if you pick the right one for whatever you’re doing.

Here are the best Amps in their own categories/uses.

Take note: there are currently 343 possible Amp combinations in the game, plus the 2 pre-built Amps (the Mote Amp and Sirocco), summing it up to 345 Amps. The first Amp that’ll be accessible to you after the Mote Amp. You may be thinking that you’re better off just waiting until other parts become available but, the 111 Amp is leagues better than the default Mote Amp. It’s highly advisable to get it as soon as you can, so you can actually see what this weapon type is capable of.

This Amp kind of acts like Iron Man’s repulsor cannons, the main firing mode is a quick single shot while the secondary firing mode is a charged, stronger shot.

One of the first enemies you’ll face where the Amp will come in useful (needed even). During your first encounters, you’ll most likely be facing the stalker with the Mote Amp or the 111 Amp.

Now, admittedly, the Shadow Stalker pretty much becomes a push-over when you use Amps, regardless of which one you use. So this Amp is for those who just want to get rid of the Hunhow’s lackey the quickest.

The Stalker can be a slippery target, he can stand still at one second and then be running circles around you in the next. That’s what I considered for this one.

The Shwaak can let you get some licks in once he starts slowing down, and the Klebrik allows you to keep hitting him no matter how confusing his movements get. The Anspatha is there just to make sure you don’t run out of juice while fighting him.

What this Amp excels at:

Locking on to the Stalker

The Klebrik Scaffold’s firing mode will latch on to the Stalker, allowing you to not only keep an eye on his position but also to be constantly dealing damage even while he’s on the move.

Taking down the Stalker quickly and consistently

The Shwaak deals huge damage and the best part is, you don’t even have to aim well to use it. Just point in the general direction of the Stalker and let loose.

The first time you faced the Sentients in The Second Dream quest was a rough experience for a lot of players. Enemies that could adapt to most of the damage types you throw at them. Fortunately, there is a way to strip away their resistances: the Amp.

You won’t really encounter these enemies a lot as they mostly only appear in certain quests and on Lua, but when you do, here’s what’ll help the most.

This Amp isn’t just good for resetting sentient damage resistances, it’s also good for just straight up dispatching them (up to a certain level, you might want to use your weapons against Steel Path sentients).

The burst fire can get rid of sentients quickly, if you find yourself against overwhelming numbers, you can use the alternate fire to deal damage to multiple enemies in front of you. (You could also go for 427 if you prefer an automatic weapon).

Removing sentient resistances

Like all Amps, this one removes any existing built-up resistances a sentient foe has accumulated, allowing you to go back to your main weapons and deal max damage again.

For those who want to follow in the footsteps of the Corpus and be successful businessmen in the Warframe universe, selling overpowered rivens is one of the fastest and most common ways of making it rain. And to get those said overpowered rivens, you need to do Kuva siphons.

To destroy Kuva clouds, you can either void dash through them, or shoot it with your Amp. Pretty much any Amp can do this as you only need to hit the cloud once to destroy it.

So this Amp is meant more for you to defend yourself or go on the offensive against incoming enemies while dealing with the Kuva machine and cloud.

Sometimes you don’t want to fight Eidolons and you just want to do other stuff in the Plains of Eidolon at night. Whether you want to fish, mine, preserve animals or do other bounties at night, the Vomvalyst presence is a constant annoyance at least, deadly force at most.

So what do you do? *slaps Amp* You put this baby on. This Amp is designed to evaporate any Vomvalysts that pop their ugly heads up during your visit to the plains.

As you’ve probably noticed, Vomvalysts tend to travel (and attack) in packs. There’s never just one of these things. So what you need is something that can take on multiple targets at once. The Primary fire is a widespread void beam and the secondary fire is an explosive wave of void energy, perfect for the job.

This Amp can handle multiple Vomvalysts approaching from multiple directions from a close to medium distance.

Eidolon hunts can get toxic. Best be prepared with this Amp.

The main purpose of the Amp. Possibly the main reason you’re even reading this article. Some people tend to have conflicting opinions about what the meta Amp for Eidolon hunting is. Some prefer the 777, 223, and 627. In the end, it all comes down to personal taste and preference.

But the major consensus is that the best Amp for Eidolon hunting is the good ole 177. When paired with Volt’s Electric Shield, the Virtuos Shadow Arcane, and Madurai’s Void Strike, you can break an Eidolon’s shields in one hit with the Propa Saffold if you score a critical hit. And when you don’t get a critical hit, you can use the Raplak to take down whatever shields remain.

What this Amp excels at:

One-shotting Eidolon Shields

As explained above, this Amp is used to rush Eidolon hunts by taking down their shields as fast as possible by maxing this Amp’s critical capabilities.

Killing Vomvalysts

You’ll also be using the Raplak Prism for taking down Vomvalysts to charge up the Eidolon lures. You can also use the Propa but it’s much trickier because you’d need to time your shots right to hit them.

Another open-world boss that requires the Amp. Though less popular than Eidolons, you’re going to have to take on the Profit-Taker Orb if you want to quickly climb up the ranks of Vox Solaris.

I’ll mostly talk about the parts that the Amp will be used for. If you want a full walkthrough of how to beat the Profit-Taker, here’s a video.

Compared with Eidolon hunts, the Amp plays a smaller role in fighting the Profit-Taker, it’s mainly used to just cycle through the Orb’s damage resistances until you get the damage type you want. Basically, any Amp can do this but the Raplak Prism is preferred due to its accuracy and effectiveness at long ranges.

What this Amp excels at:

Switch Profit-Taker’s shield weakness type

To do this, simply fire at the Profit-Taker with the Raplak prism. This switches the damage type that it’s currently weak to. Just keep firing until you hit the element you’ve built your loadout around.

Destroying shield pylons

You can simply destroy these with your regular weapons but one of the reasons this Amp is the best for this situation is that the Phahd scaffold can get rid of the shield pylons easily too.

Maximize the pain with this Amp.

Maybe you’re one of those players that don’t really care about all these details and complicated build strategies. Maybe all you want is to see really big numbers every time you push on your left or middle mouse button.

Then this is the Amp for you. The Granmu Prism fires 3 grenades, each dealing 1,000 void damage for the impact, and 1,400 void damage for the explosion. Summing it all up to 7,200 void damage every time you pull the trigger (assuming every shot hits).

The Propa Scaffold is the single highest base-damage Amp component in the game. It deals a massive 9,000 void damage for every grenade.

The Certus enhances both of these parts by adding a flat 20% critical chance for both of them.

What this Amp excels at:

Crowd control

Since both firing modes are essentially grenade launchers, watch the enemy numbers dwindle as you blow up their ranks. (Just remember to put a little distance between you and your targets so you don’t keep self-staggering yourself with your grenades)

Raw, unadulterated damage

That’s what you wanted this for right? There really isn’t much else to say about this Amp aside from it brings the big ouchies.

Unlike other weapons, the Amp can’t be modded. So don’t expect to see red numbers with even the best Amps unless they make a major change. You can also enhance your criticals through other means (like for the 177 in Eidolon hunting).

Enhancements aside, this is the Amp with the highest base critical chance in the games. No buts and ifs about it.

What this Amp excels at:

Dealing crits

The Klamora has a critical chance of 38% and a critical multiplier of 2.4x, and the Phahd has a critical chance and multiplier of 34% and 2.6x respectively (this is for both the impact and explosion of the glaive). The Certus Brace further boosts these numbers to 58% and 54% making this Amp a critical spewing machine!

The Void status effect king.

All Amps deal Void Damage, the status effect that Void damage has is a bullet attractor (similar to Mag’s 2nd skill except it doesn’t pull other enemies toward it). This can be useful for fast -moving targets you can’t be bothered to properly hunt down.

In which case, this Amp comes in handy as its components have the highest status chance out of all Amps.

What this Amp excels at:

Dealing status effects

The Lega has a status chance of 34%, while the Exard has 33% (for both grenade impact and explosion). The Lohrin Brace boosts this to 46% and 45% respectively. Making this Amp ideal for whenever you want to make use of the Void damage’s bullet attractors.

The Tenno and their Warframes are considered to have mastered the ways of the gun and the blade. What better representation of this than a weapon that combines the features of both! Hence the Gundblade. These magnificent tools of death make you a large threat both near and far.

For those of you that are new to Warframe or have never tried using gunblades before, here’s how they work: they have the usual melee attacks of other melee weapons, but by pressing the alternate fire button, instead of performing a heavy attack, you fire the built-in gun wherever you’re aiming. Their guns don’t use ammo, so you don’t have to worry about running out.

There are currently only 5 of these weapons in the game (as of the Angels of Zariman update). So here’s the lowdown on which of the gunblades are good, and which is at the pinnacle of their class.

5. Redeemer

The Redeemer is what you get when a shotgun and a machete love each other very much

Blow people away (quite literally) with this gunblade. Like all gunblades, its gunfire ragdolls most enemies when you fire at them up close (up to 4 meters). Its melee deals Slash damage while its shotgun deals blast damage.

The Redeemer is actually a pretty decent gun for being at the bottom of the list. The only thing keeping it from being ranked higher is the fact that its Prime version does exactly what it does, but better.

What Redeemer excels at:

Crowd control:

Not only does the Redeemer ragdoll enemies, but its shots have a stagger and knockdown chance regardless of distance. It also has an innate punch through. All of this makes this weapon way more useful in dealing with bunched-up groups of enemies.

Status effects:

The ranged attack has a 6.6% status chance which may not sound like much, but your ranged weapon is a shotgun that fires 10 pellets at once making the status chance reach up to 66% if you can manage to land every pellet.

Slash damage:

The Redeemer’s melee attacks deal primarily Slash damage which is a damage type that’s good against health.

How to get Redeemer:

Blueprints for the Redeemer are simply bought from the in-game market. You can access it from the market console across the console where you access your quests. Keep in mind that the Redeemer uses two weapons, the Vasto and the Dual Skana as crafting materials.

4. Sarpa

The Sarpa is what you get when a burst rifle and a sword love each oth- okay, sorry I’ll stop doing that

The Sarpa can be a really weird and confusing weapon to understand.

First, the number of shots it fires in a single burst changes based on your weapon stance.

Second, for some reason when no stance mods are equipped, this weapon uses the stances mod "Bullet Dance"'s Samba Slash combo.

And lastly, despite being a burst rifle, the Sarpa's shots are most effective at close range (20m below) as the gun has falloff damage, meaning the farther the enemy, the less damage they take.

But once you get the hang of it, this can be a really fun weapon for removing armor and nullifier shields.

What Sarpa excels at:

Armor stripping:

Equipping the mod "Shattering Impact" can make every attack you make remove large amounts of armor since you fire multiple shots per attack. This even makes the Sarpa an option in Eidolon Hunting, to quickly strip Eidolons of their tough armor.

Dealing multiple status effects:

This weapon has a 28% status chance. Even for the ranged attack. This makes applying status effects really easy since, again, you fire multiple shots at once.

Popping nullifier spheres:

A quick series of shots from this gun obliterates nullifier bubbles as long as you can keep your aim straight.

How to get Sarpa:

Blueprints for the Sarpa are simply bought from the in-game market. You can access it from the market console across the console where you access your quests.

3. Vastilok

This rugged shotgun gunblade blasts anyone in its way to next week

The Vastilok is another shotgun gunblade, this time of Grineer origin (rather than the Redeemer which is a Tenno weapon).

This weapon pretty much acts exactly like the Redeemer, just with different stats (i.e., higher base damage, higher blocking angle). Also, unlike the Redeemer, the Vastilok can use the mod “Shattering Impact''. This is because the Redeemer’s long-range attack does not deal impact damage, it deals exclusively blast.

What Vastilok excels at:

Armor stripping:

Similar to the Sarpa, the Vastilok can make use of Shattering Impact to make your enemies more vulnerable. Even though it has a lower range, the Vastilok is still viable in Eidolon Hunting since Eidolons are big enough that missing won’t be a problem.

Blocking:

The Vastilok has the highest blocking angle of all gunblades. With a 90° blocking angle, pretty much all ranged attacks coming from the front are blockable as long as you keep the weapon up.

Maximizing condition overload:

The mod “Condition Overload” increases a melee weapon’s damage by 80% for each status effect on an enemy. Having the highest status chance out of all gunblades (31% for melee, 10.33% for each shotgun pellet), the Vastilok can multiply its damage output several times with this mod and a couple of elemental mods.

How to get Vastilok:

The Vastilok can be bought from Baro Ki’Teer whenever he shows up in a Tenno Relay. However Baro Ki’Teer’s inventory changes on every appearance so this weapon might not be for sale the next time you go check on him.

2. Redeemer Prime

The Redeemer she tells you not to worry about

The Redeemer’s redeemer. The Redeemer Prime is simply a straight-up upgrade to the regular Redeemer. It dwarfs its little brother in base damage, critical chance, critical multiplier, and status chance.

Another thing that’s different: the way it counts combos. With the shotgun blast, when an enemy is hit, your combo counter increases by 5 regardless of how many pellets made contact.

The Redeemer Prime has the second-highest critical chance and critical multiplier among gunblades (24% critical chance, 2.2x critical multiplier). Giving each of your attacks an extra sting in them.

Dealing status effects:

The Redeemer Prime also has the second-highest status chance among gunblades (30% for the melee, 9% for each shotgun pellet)

Crowd control:

As you know, the Redeemer Prime does everything that the Redeemer does but better. So of course this gunblade would rip through hordes of enemies with ease.

The fact that the combo count rises by 5 for each enemy hit is pretty nuts considering this is a shotgun that can hit lots of enemies at once. Add the fact that the shotgun has an innate 1-meter punch through (which you can increase through mods), and you’ll see your combo count skyrocket.

1. Stropha

Point this thing at whatever you want to not exist anymore

This is the first, and so far the only, Corpus gunblade. And boy, I don’t get why because they obviously know what they’re doing. It’s a tough one to farm for but it’s definitely worth it.

Unlike the other gunblades so far, the Stropha doesn’t fire ballistic bullets. Instead, it shoots a wide shockwave with limited range (17m). Don’t let the range limit fool you though, it deals huge damage (700 impact) and forces stagger on enemies.

What Stropha excels at:

Delivering massive crits:

The Stropha has the highest critical chance and critical multiplier among gunblades (30% critical chance, 2.4x critical multiplier). Making its already deadly base damage even deadlier.

Crowd control:

Due to its projectile being a wide shockwave, the Stropha can mow down entire platoons of enemies. As a bonus, enemies within 1 meter of the shockwave are ragdolled, allowing you to follow up with even more pain.

Deleting shields:

Dealing 700 pure impact damage with the ranged attack is sure to make any shield-reliant enemies a non-threat. This is ironic as the Stropha is a Corpus weapon and the Corpus are the most shield-reliant faction in the game.

High-tech, space-age warriors using bows and arrows might seem out of place in a practical sense; but it’s super cool so… checkmate?

Regular bows are cool enough, but Warframe steps it up with its diverse selection. Some bows shoot exploding arrows, there are crossbows that empty their entire clip with a click of a button, and there are even bows that fire arrows that create tentacles that pull enemies in before blowing up in a messy viral explosion. Yes, that last one is real.

If you’re having trouble picking one as your next weapon, here’s a list of the best ones out there for you to give a shot. Don’t forget to lead the shot too!

Here are the rules considered in the making of this list:

Weapons are considered a “bow” when you can equip any single bow mod like Arrow Mutation or Thunderbolt onto them. This includes crossbows so they are allowed in this list.
Exalted Weapons (weapons usable only through Warframe abilities) are not included in this list.

10. Nagantaka Prime

One of the latest weapons in the game, introduced in March 2022, the Nagantaka’s Prime version is already good enough to be on a top 10 list. This crossbow features better damage, critical chance, magazine, and alternate firing mode fire rate.

The Nagantaka Prime’s primary firing mode is a semi-automatic bolt for accurate shots.

When you face a tanky opponent and/or find yourself facing multiple enemies, you can use the alternate firing mode which immediately unloads your entire magazine. Turn whoever’s in your path into pincushions with this crossbow.

Also, lore-wise, the Nagantaka, and its prime variant is owned by the Warframe Garuda, and when used by Garuda or Garuda prime, it gains +1 meter of Punch Through, to pierce through your foes even better.

Accuracy:

Other weapons in the game with alternate firing modes where they empty their clip in seconds can’t aim while doing so. The Nagantaka can, making even its alternate firing mode, have good accuracy.

Fire rate:

Bows in Warframe usually have a fire rate of 1 arrow per second. Since the Nagantaka Prime is a crossbow, it gets a higher fire rate than the regular bow (2.5 bolts per second). In fact, it has the highest fire rate of any weapon on this list!

The Nagantaka prime has a status chance of 39%, allowing you to easily inject whatever nasty status effects you want on your enemies.

9. Cernos Prime

Pinning enemies to walls 3 arrows at a time

The Cernos family bows might be Warframe’s favorite variety of bows due to the sheer number of versions it has (spoiler alert: you’ll be seeing this bow’s cousins further down the list).

The Prime variant has a unique way of firing: it shoots 3 arrows at once. You can adjust their positioning to be arranged horizontally or vertically by pressing the alternate fire button. This makes the Cernos Prime really flexible for a lot of tricky situations.

This bow also has the effect of dealing a bonus (50%) damage on headshots. Add this to the already impressive base damage that all weapons deal on headshots, and you get an amazing head-hunting bow.

What Cernos Prime excels at:

Being a one-bow army:

Firing 3 arrows at once already makes the enemy feel like there’s more of you than there really are. Adding multishot mods increases this amount even further, allowing you to just rain down tons of arrows with just 1 bow.

Whizz! Headshot:

If you have a decent aim (which, well, you should if bows are your thing) and love to get headshots, this is the bow for you. The 50% damage bonus is just too good to pass up.

Versatility:

Fire horizontally if you wanna take out a bunch of enemies at once. If there is a single enemy that’s giving you trouble, try firing vertically so all your arrows hit him (and you can easily get headshots when firing this way too).

8. Lenz

Make use of this Corpus tool to get rid of some Corpus tools

The Corpus have always had that futuristic look for their weapons and equipment compared to the Grineer’s scrappy but functional or the Orokin’s elegant designs. Even “old-fashioned” weapons like the bow get the high-tech treatment, and it shows.

The Lenz’s arrows inflict an area of effect (AOE) cold damage before exploding and dealing blast damage.

You may be concerned about the Lenz’s tiny ammo pool of 6, but don’t worry. True to the futuristic feel, this weapon has an innate ammo mutation effect, meaning that it converts any unused ammo into usable ammo for itself.

What Lenz excels at:

Packing a punch:

The Lenz is the bow with the second-highest base damage, making this bow a powerhouse in its category. It deals 50 impact damage for a charged shot, 10 cold damage for the first burst (it also applies a guaranteed cold status effect), and a whopping 660 blast damage for the explosion.

Critical chance:

Along with the Dread, this bow has the highest critical chance (not counting Nataruk’s perfect shot) among bows (50%). Take advantage of this and use mods to increase it even further.

Ah yes, a classic! (mwah) For those of you who chose the Mk-1 Paris as their first primary weapon in the opening section of the game (like me), this weapon must bring back good memories. The Paris Prime has been in the game from the very start and it’s only fitting that it’s good enough to take this spot on the list.

This more traditional bow than the ones you’ve seen on this list so far, it’s a simple aim and fire bow. Sometimes, more is less.

Compared to the other Paris variants, the Paris Prime may have a slower reload speed, but its increased damage, critical chance, and status chance more than make up for this.

What Paris Prime excels at:

Tanking:

Yes, you read that right. The Bhsaj-Bal is a mod exclusive to the Paris Prime that restores 300 of your health for every 3 status effects. It also boosts the weapon’s status chance by 90% to make that healing effect easier to use.

Dealing crits:

The Paris Prime has the second-highest critical chance (45%) among bows.

6. Dread

The Stalker assassin's calling card

One of the Stalker’s personal weapons of choice (all named after fun and cheerful stuff like Hate, War, and Despair), as the name states, make your enemies lose all hope whenever you pull on this weapon’s string.

The Dread uses bladed arrows that can slice through enemy flesh and armor like a thousand-degree knife on a soft drink bottle… I guess.

What Dread excels at:

Dealing critical damage:

The Dread is tied with the Lenz, in having the highest critical chance (not counting Nataruk’s perfect shot) among bows. (50%), no wonder the Stalker could kill you in seconds in the early stages of the game.

Rapid-fire:

With a reload time of 0.7s, the Dread is great at quickly picking off targets, whether from a good vantage point or on the move.

Ripping and tearing:

This weapon’s bladed arrows deal primarily slash damage, it also has a good status chance (20%), allowing you to frequently inflict bleeding status chance on enemies and bypass their armor.

Dread blueprints have a 37.94% chance to drop from defeating the Stalker (either normal or Shadow Stalker).

5. Mutalist Cernos

This is an infested variation of the Cernos bow. If you can get around the infestation plaguing its exterior (I’ve seen players that really dislike the infested motifs in weapons and other items), the Mutalist Cernos is a really good bow that handles big crowds well.

Upon impact, this bow’s arrows release toxic clouds that damage enemies foolish enough to pass through them. These toxic spores remain there for 10 seconds. If you can make enough of these spores, the entire area will be inhospitable to your enemies.

Be warned though, despite being labeled as “silent” the spore clouds alert enemies, making this bow tricky to use in stealth missions.

What Mutalist Cernos excels at:

Dealing with Nullifiers:

If you hit a nullifier bubble, the arrow will still generate a spore cloud on the surface of the bubble, dealing damage to it until it pops. Those enemies are extremely annoying so having this bow to lessen their threat level is a good idea.

Creating zones that deal constant damage:

The spore clouds are really useful in keeping large crowds under control. You can use them to keep some distance between you and them or to distract them while you do something else like hacking panels.

Being the best status chance dealer:

Of all bows, the Mutalist Cernos is undisputed in having the highest status chance of 49%. Add multiple status elements on this weapon, sit back and watch as enemies catch your status effects inside your spore clouds.

4. Daikyu

A sniper rifle disguised as medieval weapon

A little fun fact: this weapon’s name is Japanese for “big bow”, “long bow” or possibly “big nine”... it’s probably not the latter one though. Sadly.

This is another bow that doesn’t do anything crazy like fire soda cans or take your dog on a walk. It does, however, have a feature wherein it can only fire charged shots. Making this weapon useful for single, high-priority targets.

What Daikyu excels at:

Striking hard:

Not counting bows that deal AOE, this bow has the highest base damage among bows. Just make sure to aim well and this bow will do the rest.

Striking fast:

Clocking at 140m/s the Daikyu’s arrows have the highest projectile speed among bows. Not only that, this makes arrows fly so fast, that their projectile speed is actually the second fastest among all primary weapons (aside from those that are hit-scan).

Firing arrows that travel faster than gun bullets really make you feel like a super-powered, robot ninja, which you are, kinda.

Causing status effects:

The Daikyu has the second-highest status chance among bows (46%).

3. Nataruk

The enemy of my enemy' bow is my friend

Getting the Stalker’s bow is not enough for a true bow enjoyer. Take it a step further and grab Hunhow’s (the Stalker’s master) bow too! The Nararuk is a weapon gifted to you in an uneasy, temporary alliance. Hunhow didn’t ask for it back though. Must not be a bow enjoyer.

I struggled on whether the Nataruk or the Daikyu should get the title of “Best Single Target Bow” but I think the Nataruk should take it.

The Nataruk has infinite ammo, ties with the Lenz and Dread with having the highest critical chance (when charged), as well as having the highest reload speed among bows.

But the main feature that makes this weapon so great is the “perfect shot” ability. When you release your arrow just before you fully charge it, the shot will have an increased critical chance and critical multiplier, providing insane damage outputs.

What Nataruk excels at:

One hitting:

The perfect shot ability makes this weapon incredibly effective in taking down high-priority targets quickly.

Piercing through bodies:

Both the charged and perfect shots have innate infinite punch through on bodies, allowing you to damage multiple enemies in a line even if the frontmost enemy somehow survives.

Rapid-fire:

Having the highest reload speed makes this weapon useful in taking down many weaker enemies quickly too. If you notice the Nataruk’s quick shots taking down enemies in a single shot, it’s better to go with that.

Criticals:

With the perfect shot, the Nataruk surpasses even the Dread and the Lenz in critical chance with a jaw-dropping 60% critical chance.

You get a Nataruk after completing “The New War” quest. You can buy additional copies, should you want to, from Cephalon Simaris for 100,000 standing.

This is the big daddy of the Cernos family, it’s a supposed direct upgrade to the Mutalist Cernos as it requires one to be crafted. Aside from them both being infested bows though, they’re very different weapons.

The Proboscis (prow-baa-suhs) Cernos’ arrows unleash tendrils that latch onto enemies upon impact, then pull them into the impact location before exploding and dealing viral damage. It sounds crazy and over-the-top and that’s because it is, and I love it.

What Proboscis Cernos excels at:

Being viral:

The Proboscis Cernos comes with innate viral damage on its appendages and the ensuing explosion. This bow also has an impressive status chance, making sure that everyone gets their fair share of the viral status effect.

The viral status effect acts as a damage multiplier for any damage the affected enemy takes. It increases damage by 100% for the first proc for 6 seconds, any further procs will add 25%, capping out at 325%.

Crowd control:

Sucking in all surrounding enemies makes handling messy and chaotic crowds much easier.

Setting enemies up for further damage:

Since the appendages gather enemies together in one spot, you can use other weapons or Warframe abilities to follow up on this and deal even more damage to any survivors.

1. Kuva Bramma

The power of the sun in the palm of your robot hands, sound familiar?

Here she is ladies and gents, one of the main reasons the current “boom and zoom” meta even exists. This weapon is not only the greatest bow, it is one of the greatest weapons currently in the game period. In the 2021 review released by Digital Extremes themselves, the Kuva Bramma is the 3rd most used primary weapon in the game.

This bow acts more like a rocket launcher than a bow. A rocket launcher whose payload splits into smaller loads upon impact or upon mid-air detonation (by clicking the alternate fire). That’s right, this thing is essentially a stick, a string, and a nuke.

Also, being a Kuva Weapon, the Kuva Bramma’s max rank increases every time you apply a forma, capping at rank 40. It will also have bonus damage, the type of damage would depend on the Warframe used to spawn your Kuva Lich.

This weapon is so strong that players are constantly calling for it to be nerfed. Whether you’re a fan of this bow or not, there is no denying its power and effectiveness.

Nuking everything in sight:

The nonstop explosions, combined with its high critical chance (35%), critical multiplier (2.1x), and status chance (21%), make the Kuva Bramma just an all-around damage-dealing monster. I’d tell you to watch your enemies melt before you, but all the smoke and explosions make it hard to see.

You can get this bow by vanquishing a Kuva Lich that was generated with one. Liches spawn with a random Kuva weapon though so it may take a while to get one to spawn with a Kuva Kohm.

Out of all of Warframe’s colorful array of weapons, there is no other type of weapon more show-offy and eye-catching than the Arch-Gun. There’s nothing like bringing in these big guns to flex on your foes.

They were initially meant to be solely used in space through Archwings but have since been integrated into the open-world environments.

Note: Your Arch-Gun needs to have a Gravimag installed and you must have an Arch-Gun Deployer to use Arch-Guns in open-world environments.

Here are five of the best Arch-Guns you can get in the game and why. Note that this list mostly focuses on the weapons’ capabilities while in Archwing mode. Some of these weapons may act differently or have different stats when used on the ground (Atmospheric Mode).

5. Cortege

Toasty!

Space is a vacuum, no oxygen, no nothing. So how does this space flamethrower make any sense? Nevertheless, it works. It works well.

The Cortege’s primary fire is a beam of flames that’ll quickly burn down ships and infested creatures should you choose to use it on the ground. It doesn’t eat up a lot of ammo so you can let it rip for as long as you want.

Once you get 5 kills with the primary fire (get it? fire), your alternate-fire gauge gets filled up, allowing you to use it. The alternate fire launches three grenades that deal Area of Effect (AOE) damage on impact or upon remote detonation by pressing alternate fire again. This firing mode leaves flaming puddles that damage enemies that pass through them.

What Cortege excels at:

Inflicting constant status damage:

The Cortege’s primary fire has the second-highest status chance among Arch-Guns (40%) and the alternate fire’s status chance isn’t half bad (16.7%). Equipped with the right elemental mods, this weapon can melt any enemy with ease.

AOE/Crowd control:

Both the beam and grenade firing modes are excellent at hitting multiple enemies at the same time. The flaming puddles that the grenades leave behind make it even trickier for enemies to move about.

Once you’ve attained Rank 2 - Clearance: Modus, with the Necraloid syndicate, Cortege’s component blueprints become available in their wares for 4,000 standing each. The main blueprint, however, requires Rank 3 - Clearance: Odima, and sells for 8,000 standing.

4. Fluctus

To quote another overpowered space guy: Rip and Tear

Another crowd control weapon makes it onto the list, so sue me. The Fluctus doesn’t release never-ending streams of fire or blow up groups of enemies with grenades though. Instead, it shoots wide waves of energy that slice through enemies.

“How is a projectile weapon viable for crowd control?” you may ask, the Fluctus’ main highlight is that it has infinite punch through. This means that the energy waves won’t be stopped by bodies, walls, or anything else, line up your shots to maximize efficiency.

The shots do have falloff damage though, this means they deal less damage at a distance than up close. That’s something to keep in mind.

What Fluctus excels at:

Crowd control:

This weapon works wonders in Archwing missions like Defense, Mobile Defense, and any other mission where the enemies come to you instead of vice versa. You’ll notice enemies tend to line or stack up in these missions, allowing you to take them out in one shot.

Ignoring armor:

The Fluctus deals primarily slash damage, this damage ignores all armor so it’s a favored damage type in the game.

Attacking but not getting attacked back at:

Because it has infinite punch through, you can literally just hide behind barriers or walls while firing at enemies (as long as you know where they are) and you’d be protected from any return fire.

How to get Fluctus:

Fluctus’s main blueprint is researched and bought in your dojo’s Tenno Lab. Its component blueprints can either be traded among players or bought off from certain syndicates at their respective rank 3.

3. Imperator Vandal

Rain down bullets with this rapid-fire Archgun

All the developers had to do was create an improved version of the first Arch-Gun you get. They didn’t have to make it one of the best in the game, but lo and behold, I’m not complaining.

The Imperator Vandal gets a boosted fire rate, making it the fastest firing Arch-Gun in the space West (I hate myself for saying that). Some other direct improvements from the base Imperator are its critical chance, critical multiplier, and reload time.

What Imperator Vandal excels at:

Rapid-fire:

Having the highest fire rate and highest magazine size of all the Arch-Guns allows the Imperator Vandal to pump your enemies full of lead before they even get a chance to do anything.

Damaging shields and armor:

The Imperator Vandal deals Impact and Puncture damage, these damage types are best used against shielded and armored enemies.

Delivering criticals and status effects:

A critical chance of 28% is really high and a status chance of 12% is fair. This weapon isn’t the king at either of these but the fact that this gun spits out bullets like nothing else means that you’ll still be raining down crits and procs on the baddies.

How to get Imperator Vandal:

Once exclusive to the Operation: Eyes of Blight event, the Imperator Vandal is now accessible through playing and beating Fomorian Sabotage. The main blueprint and components can also be traded between players.

2. Kuva Grattler

Send your enemies flying home to their space mommas with this Arch-Gun. The Kuva Grattler fires devastating explosive shells with a huge area of effect, dispatching waves of enemies in seconds.

Ironically, despite being a direct upgrade, the Kuva Grattler actually has a lower base damage than the regular Grattler. But before you scroll on down to the number 1 spot, the improved critical chance, critical multiplier, status chance, and bonus damage from the spawned Lich, more than makes up for that.

As with all Kuva Weapons, the Kuva Grattler’s max rank increases every time you apply a forma, capping at rank 40. It will also have bonus damage, the type of damage would depend on the Warframe used to spawn your Kuva Lich.

Being versatile with modding:

Having an increased maximum rank also means that this weapon has a higher mod slot capacity than most other weapons. Not only that, but the Kuva Grattler also comes with additional polarities compared to the regular Grattler so you can have a lot of legroom when modding.

This is the undisputed king of Arch-Guns. The Mausolon not only deals massive damage, but it’s also not that hard to acquire (especially in the latest update: Angels of Zariman where players are gifted free blueprints for the Voidrig Nechramech, get yours now!)

The primary fire shoots explosive rounds that produce a small but useful area of effect.

Similar to the Cortege, the Mausolon’s alternate firing mode can only be used once you’ve tallied up 5 kills with your primary fire. The alternate fire is a laser that explodes on contact. Exploding lasers… what more can you ask for?

What Mausolon excels at:

The Mausolon’s alternate fire has the second-highest critical chance among Arch-Guns (50%). It also has the second-highest critical damage multiplier of all Arch-Guns (3.5x). The primary fire also has good numbers on it (crit chance: 30%, crit multiplier: 2.2X). Those make this weapon a critical-dealing beast.

Procs, procs and procs:

The alternate fire is tied with Larkspur, Arquabex, and Morgha for the highest status chance among Arch-Guns (50%). Its primary fire has a status chance of 26% which is nothing to scoff at. Inflict whatever effects you want with these.

Rapid-fire:

Though slower than the Imperator Vandal, the primary fire still boasts a fire rate of 8.33 shots per second. It’s also tied with the Imperator Vandal on having the largest magazines among Arch-Guns so fire away guilt-free Tenno!

Warframe is an MMORPG, shooter/slasher wherein you essentially play as space ninjas with the option of stealth.

Emphasis on OPTION.

This game features a massive variety of weapons. From bows and arrows to nunchucks to flamethrowers. But what shooting game would be complete without a healthy amount of shotguns? Here’s a list of the game’s best shotguns for those of you who want to go in loud and hard.

Note: Here are the things considered in the making of this list

Different players have different definitions of what’s “best”, some may think higher damage is best, while others might want higher fire rates or critical chance. Some even prefer weapons that are easy to obtain rather than farming for hours for something that is only slightly better.

In order to be objective, this list will be based on Digital Extreme’s very own records of weapon usage for 2021. This means the “best” shotguns will be the ones favored by the most players. You can find the full list here. Sadly, you can’t sort it in a way that it will only show shotguns so you’re better off finishing this article first.

Each variation of a weapon will be considered a different weapon for this list’s sake. So, there can be more than one version of a weapon on this list.
Any gun the game considers a shotgun can be on the list. Even if they don’t look or act like a shotgun in the traditional sense. Warframe considers a weapon a shotgun if it uses shotgun mods like Point Blank and Blunderbuss.

10. Drakgoon

Fire and watch the pretty ricochets make the bad guys scram for cover

You may be wondering what a Grineer flak cannon is doing on a list meant for shotguns. Well, the game treats this gun as a shotgun and so will we!

Other shotguns may struggle with long-range targets but this gun offers a charged shot that makes your bullets more compact and more viable for bigger distances. Aside from this, another unique characteristic this weapon has is that its bullets ricochet once, allowing each pellet to hit more than once.

The base Drakgoon gets a place on the list instead of the Kuva Drakgoon mainly because of its accessibility. It also has a higher base damage, and though the rest of the stats are slightly worse, this version still shows a higher usage rate from players (0.55% vs 0.23%).

What makes Drakgoon great

The charge mechanic makes this weapon viable for multiple ranges instead of just being a short-range weapon.
Ricocheting bullets are very useful in cramped places full of enemies. This can be further improved with the mod Fomorian Accelerant which increases the number of bounces and projectile speed.
Having a high base slash damage, combined with having a good status chance makes this weapon really good at damaging health.

How to get Drakgoon:

There are currently two ways to acquire the Drakgoon. The easier way is by simply buying the blueprint off of the in-game market. Alternatively, you can get a Drakgoon blueprint by beating the Excalibur Spectre in the Pluto Junction from Neptune.

9. Astilla Prime

Giving the term "glass cannon" a new meaning

Blast your enemies with slugs of glass (oof) with the upgraded version of the Astilla. The Astilla Prime looks good, kills good, and even feels good to use, what’s not to like?

Despite being a shotgun, the Atilla Prime fires a single glass slug instead of multiple pellets per shot.

Lore-wise this weapon belongs to the Warframe Gara and so gets a bonus when used by players using Gara or Gara Prime. The bonus grants a larger ammo pool for the weapon from 120 to 200.

What makes Astilla Prime great

Along with the original Astilla, this weapon has the second-highest accuracy amongst shotguns. (The Wikia states it to have the highest but this is technically untrue as Phantasma fires beams with 100% accuracy).
The slugs explode on impact, dealing an area of effect damage that deals even higher damage than the initial impact. The explosion also inflicts status effects separate from the slug itself.
Having a high critical chance (21%) and a high status chance (37%) gives you a ton of ways to mod the weapon to match your playstyle.

8. Phantasma

Melt your enemies with this radioactive shotgun

My personal favorite primary weapon (primarily because I have an amazing riven for it). The Phantasma is a beam weapon with an alternate fire that acts like a grenade launcher, except imagine the grenade releasing heat-seeking missiles AFTER exploding.

“What’s a beam weapon doing in this list?” you may ask. The Phantasma actually fires 6 beams of radiation, giving it its place here. The beams are all concentrated in one direction though, so it’s hard to distinguish them apart.

Like the Astilla Prime, the Phantasma also gets a bonus when wielded by its in-lore match. When used by the Warframe: Revenant, this shotgun gains a boost in magazine size, from 11 to 15.

What makes Phantasma great

As it is a beam weapon, the Phantasma’s primary fire has perfect accuracy (though the beams only extend up to 20 meters if unmodded).
This weapon has the highest reload speed of all shotguns (0.5 secs).
Along with the Convectrix and Phage, the Phantasma also has the highest fire rate among shotguns.
This has an alternate fire wherein it launches a ball of plasma that explodes on impact. It then releases 5 projectiles that home in on enemies.

Blueprints for the Phantasma are simply bought from the in-game market. You can access it from the market console across the console where you access your quests.

7. Hek

Insert cringy joke about the gun's name here

Yet another weapon that made it on the list despite its other, newer variations not making it. The Hek’s other versions (Vaykor Hek and Kuva Hek) may have stats that are better on paper, but the fact that the regular Hek is just so hekking easy to get makes it have a higher usage rate from the player base.

Compared to the other weapons on this list, the Hek may be the closest thing to a traditional, semi-automatic shotgun. A big, loud gun that fires several bullets per shot and deals a lot of hurt to anyone in front of it.

What makes Hek great

The Hek has a narrow cone, meaning that its bullets are packed closer than other shotguns. Due to this, the Hek is still useful for moderate distances.
A high status chance of 10.7% chance per pellet (it fires 7 pellets per round).
Has an exclusive mod called Scattered Justice, that gives it more multishot (number of pellets per round) as well as the Justice effect. This mod is also exclusive to the base version of Hek.

6. Corinth Prime

At first glance, the Corinth Prime seems like just another normal shotgun.

And then you press your alternate fire button.

This weapon’s alternate fire launches a grenade that manually explodes once you press the alternate fire button again.

What makes Corinth Prime great

Shares the title of narrowest shotgun pellet spread with Hek and Vaykor Hek.
This and base Corinth have the highest critical chance and critical multiplier among shotguns.
This, Cedo and Turmna have the highest status chance among launcher weapons (with the alternate fire).
Both modes of firing deal massive damage along with having a great status chance.

5. Kuva Kohm

A guy spools up to you with this gun, what do you do?

Both the base and Kuva versions of Kohm feature a trigger function unique in shotguns called the auto-spool. Whenever you hold the trigger, each time the gun fires, the next shot would contain an additional pellet and would have an increased fire rate. It can reach up to a maximum of 12 pellets per shot and a fire rate of 4.17 shots per second.

Think of it like a minigun… but like a shotgun… yeah.

As with all Kuva Weapons, the Kuva Kohm’s max rank increases every time you apply a forma, capping at rank 40. It will also have bonus damage, the type of damage would depend on the Warframe used to spawn your Kuva Lich.

What makes Kuva Kohm great

Auto-spool gradually increases multishot up to 12 as long as the trigger is held. Fire rate is increased per shot too.
High critical chance or 19% and an absurdly high status chance of 90% (status chance gets split every time multishot goes up).
Has the bonuses of being a Kuva Weapon: Max level of 40 and additional bonus damage.

4. Arca Plasmor

Evaporating groups of enemies since 2017

One of the things that make shotguns really satisfying to use is that *umph* you get whenever you pull the trigger. And in my humble opinion, no other gun in the game has more satisfying umph than those of the Arca Plasmor family. Every time this gun fires, it feels like a wicked bass drop from the top song: Darude Sandstorm (heh).

The Arca Plasmor doesn’t fire conventional ballistic bullets. Instead, it fires a pulse of radiation that knocks enemies down or just straight up disintegrates them if it kills them.

What makes Arca Plasmor great

Shots inflict a guaranteed Impact status effect.
Has a default punch through of 3 meters against bodies.
Enemies killed by this weapon disintegrate, so you can mod it for stealth if you want to.
It has a low zoom which is useful since its shots are pretty wide. This makes it easier to aim properly.

3. Bubonico

There're just some times when coughing loudly isn't enough to scare people away anymore, that's where this thing comes in

An automatic Infested arm cannon named after the Bubonic plague. True to its namesake, the Bubonico spreads disease and death with innate toxin damage in its primary fire through 7-pellet shots. For its alternate fire, it deals viral damage in the form of a three-round burst that causes AOE on impact.

What makes Bubonico great

Because it’s an arm cannon, your other hand is free to do other things. You can carry objects and fire while downed, which you can usually only do with secondary weapons.
High critical chance for primary fire (25%) and high critical multiplier for both firing modes (2.3X for primary and 3.5X for alternate).
The alternate fire has the highest status chance out of all primary launcher weapons (57%).

2. Tenet Arca Plasmor

When you want to wipe enemies off the face of the celestial body you're on

A version of the Arca Plasmor that is simply a straight-up upgrade in almost every way. The Tenet Arca Plasmor has higher base damage, critical multiplier, and status chance. But props to both versions of the Arca Plasmor for making it to the list (both of them took high spots too).

What makes Tenet Arca Plasmor great

Unlike the base Arca Plasmor, the Tenet version features ricochet! The pulses bounce off of walls to potentially deal even more damage.
Has the bonuses of being a Tenet Weapon: Max level of 40 and additional bonus damage.
Has a default punch through of 3 meters against bodies.
Enemies killed by this weapon disintegrate, so you can mod it for stealth if you want to.
It has a low zoom which is useful since its shots are pretty wide. This makes it easier to aim properly.

1. Cedo

The king of lead pumpers

Here it is, the best shotgun in Warframe with a 2.85% usage rate out of all primary weapons and a whopping 15.98% usage rate of all shotguns. Here’s why:

The Cedo has 2 firing modes. The first fires fully automatic buckshot rounds with a high critical chance.

The alternate firing mode launches a glaive that ricochets before exploding. This firing mode has an amazing status chance (50% for both the glaive and the explosion).

So far so good, but nothing too crazy yet right? Well, Cedo’s primary fire has another effect. It increases its damage dealt by 60% for each status effect a target is afflicted by.

This means that even if you can just deal 2 status effects on an enemy (which is easy since the alternate fire has an impressive status chance), your weapon will already be dealing 120% more than its base damage. And if you mod it to just have as many status types as possible… you see just how incredible this weapon’s potential is!

As a little bonus, not that this weapon needed one, the Cedo is the Warframe Lavos’s signature weapon and gains Ammo Mutation effect when used by him. This converts unused ammo pickups into ammo for the Cedo.

What makes Cedo great

Ricocheting and exploding glaives have a high status chance.
Primary fire takes advantage of the alternate fire’s high status chance with the effect of adding 60% damage per status effect.
Primary fire also has a great critical chance, further boosting damage potential.
This, the Corinth Prime and Turmna have the highest status chance among launcher weapons (with the alternate fire).

How to get Cedo:

The blueprint and parts for this weapon can be bought from Father using Entrati standing. You can find Father in the Necralisk in Deimos. Note that you have to be Rank 5 with the Entrati to get all the components and as well as a total of 20,000 standing.

5. Amesha (Best for support)

Somebody called for a space doctor?

Unless you only play solo, Warframe is first and foremost a co-op game. And everybody knows the most valuable asset to have in your party is the medic, the mage, the healer. Whatever you decide to call it, there’s no denying how much your survivability goes up with an Amesha in your team.

This Archwing boasts abilities that distract, block, heal and buff. So you can count on it to stop or divert damage and boost the skills of other Archwings.

What The Amesha Excels At:

With Vengeful Rush (4th ability), you can give yourself and your nearby allies a 10& boost to Ability Duration, Range, and Strength.

Diversion

Benevolent Decoy (2nd ability) allows you to place beacons that draw enemy fire.

Protection

Confuse locked-on projectiles with your Core Vent (2nd ability). Shell an area nonstop with Thumper (3rd ability). Launch and detonate rockets with Bloomer (1st ability) or for a higher cost, use Warhead (4th ability) to cause an even bigger bang.

Cause as much chaos and loud noise as you can and the enemy won’t even realize what’s happening before getting blown up.

3. Itzal (Best for stealth/speed)

Wanna see me fly across the map?... Wanna see me do it again?

Perfect for when you feel like doing a quick smash-and-grab, Itzal has the highest default flight speed of all the Archwings at 1.2. Its skill set allows you to fly fast and undetected, and to stop those that do detect you from doing anything.

A little fun fact: Itzal used to be the only Archwing capable of using Blink. It used to be its 1st ability before being replaced by Arch Line. Because of this, players almost exclusively used only Itzal for the open-world areas.

What The Itzal Excels At:

Crowd Control

No matter how fast and stealthy you are, having a fallback never hurts. Cosmic Crush (3rd ability) creates a vacuum that sucks up enemies then self-destructs dealing blast damage. Fighter Escort summons drones that fight for you and are useful for dealing damage to multiple enemies surrounding you, allowing you to switch priorities.

Mobility

Apart from having the highest base flight speed, Arch Line (1st ability) can be used to slingshot you across the map. It takes some getting used to, but hey, Spider-Man probably hit walls face-first when he was starting out web-slinging too.

Stealth

Penumbra (2nd ability) casts an invisibility field for you and your allies as long as you remain still. There are exceptions to the rule though, using Blink or Arch Line doesn’t break your stealth despite technically being “movement”.

2. Odonata (Jack-of-all-trades, beginner Archwing)

Odonata is the first Archwing you’ll get so it makes sense that the developers gave it a wide array of abilities for players who haven’t found their preferred playstyle yet.

This Archwing’s abilities have a fair bit of defense and offense, even sliding in some distraction and zoning functions.

What The Odonata Excels At:

As stated earlier, the Odonata makes for a great introduction to what Archwings can do. Energy Shell (1st ability) and Disarray (2nd ability) offer protection while Seeking Fire (3rd ability) and Repel (4th ability) offer offense.

Zoning (Keeping Enemies Away)

Use Repel to put some distance between you and your enemies. If they shoot you from afar, use Energy Shell to protect yourself. You can then use Seeking Fire to deal damage from a distance.

1. Odonata Prime (Same role as the Odonata)

Odonata’s big brother, Odonata Prime features higher health, shields, and flight speed. It also comes with an additional Naramon polarity, allowing for a more varied initial mod loadout.

This is the only Prime Archwing in the game (as of Update 31.3). It is also the hardest one to obtain because it is currently vaulted, meaning you can’t get Void Relics with its blueprints except through trading with other players.

Odonata Prime shares the same abilities as base Odonata. So aside from being slightly tankier, faster, and easier to mod, Odonata Prime plays exactly the same. (It also looks cooler, not gonna lie)

As with most other prime items in Warframe, the Odonata Prime’s main and component blueprints come from cracking Void Relics. Just to name a few, Odonata Prime main and Systems blueprint come from Axi V8, while the Wings and Harness come from Neo O1.
