When I was 8 years old, I learned about drug dealing and money laundering thanks to this game. Sure, it doesn’t sound too educational, and it wasn’t. But who cares? The concepts were key to finishing the game.

But you know what? Scarface: The World Is Yours was more than a mere series of illegal activities. It was a piece of art and a worthy sequel to the original movie. It left unforgettable memories craved in my childhood.

Easy. Good guys also enjoy shooting down terrorists, so you’ll have a fair amount of gunfire.

Yes, I know Driv3r is broken. It has some minor bugs, AI enemies are dumb, and policemen drive so savage and relentlessly they break the law in trying to catch you.

It’s far from being a masterpiece but damn, this video game is fun! After all, it’s just a series of missions after missions that can be completed in less than four hours. Just turn on your PS2 and laugh for a while.

8. The Getaway (PS2)

Take an ex-bank robber whose wife has been murdered and child kidnapped. Then, grab a detective who wants to take justice into his own hands. Get them together in the city of London and what do you get? A bloody mess!

Based on the movie of the same name, The Getaway has a considerable amount of shots and driving moments.

It has some atypical details as well. For example, the health bar meter is replaced with the amount of blood the character drops (the lower the health, the bloodier the character). Also, it uses real car names, which was not common in most video games.

The Getaway has become a rather underrated PS2 gem through the years. Needless to say, you should give it a chance.

7. Saints Row (Xbox 360)

Saints Row has long ago become one of the most bizarre, eccentric, and offbeat open-world franchises in the gaming world. But before that, it started as a regular street-gang, GTA-like video game.

First, you customize and create a character. Then off you go to the streets of Stilwater. Blow up cars with grenades, exterminate rival gang members, and recruit prostitutes by killing their pimps.

Although some reviewers criticized it as unoriginal, Saints Row is far from being boring.

It might not be better than a GTA entry but still earns a spot on the list.

6. Sleeping Dogs (PC / PS3 / PS4 / Xbox 360 / Xbox One)

Picture this: you are recklessly driving through the streets of Hong Kong, with the car’s trunk full of dope. Next thing you know, a bunch of monks want to kick the hell out of your ass for stealing a flower, and you must fight your way out of a temple.

Considered to be a spiritual successor of the True Crime series, Sleeping Dogs involves martial arts, parkour, and smashing down criminal face’s against fans.

It seems that Asian officers need more than just firing guns… awesome!

5. The Godfather (PC / Xbox / Xbox 360 / PS2 / PS3/ PSP)

Guns, cars, and yet another movie-based video game. In The Godfather, we play as a mob recruited by the Corleone family. His main mission is to avenge the death of his father while climbing up the business ladder.

In this open-world game, we earn respect with fistfights, shots, and threats.

Besides, we get the chance to interact with lots of characters from the original film. A detail that die-hard movie fans will truly appreciate.

4. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (PC / PS2 / PS3 / PS4 / Xbox)

Vice City shares some resemblance to Scarface since they both take place in the 80s. Also, Scarface is set in Miami, while Vice City is a fictional location based on the real Miami.

We couldn’t not mention this classic. It has a remarkable soundtrack, you can drive a tank, and Danny Trejo is voicing one of the characters. And we are skipping tens of other curious reasons to play it!

It’s worth mentioning, GTA: Vice City has an Easter Egg in honor of the movie Scarface: In the bathroom of an apartment, you’ll find a chainsaw and bloodstains on the wall!

Taking down a plane to kill a Mexican cartel leader’s cousin? Stealing 8 million dollars and defending them with a machine gun? Landing a plane inside another plane and then riding a jeep out of the crashing plane?

Man, it has it all!

2. Mafia II (Xbox 360 / PS3 / PC)

Mafia II is set in a fictional city in the USA during the mid-1940s and early 1950s. We get in the shoes of Vito Scaletta, a war veteran who joins an organized crime family.

We place this one instead of the other two games in the franchise, mainly due to its storyline, improved graphics, and immersive setting. However, the whole Mafia series is worthy of your time.

If there’s something better than driving down a mob’s car with Sing Sing Sing blasting out from the radio, then I don’t want to know it.

1. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2 / PS3 / PS4 / Xbox / Xbox 360 / PC)

This was an OBVIOUS selection. But let’s be realistic: were you expecting a better number one?

It hurts my inner child to say this, but GTA: San Andreas is, other than the settings, Scarface on steroids. A huge map to explore, a well-written storyline, a fantastic song selection, and lots, and lots of fun side-missions. Spending hours in the city of San Andreas won’t feel like a waste of life.

In the end, there’s a reason why so many people still play it to this day, and there’s a reason why San Andreas is at the top of the list.
