What are the differences between Akuma and Cyber Akuma?

Akuma is one of the most recognizable and iconic characters in the history of fighting games, transcending multiple franchises even outside of Capcom’s umbrella.

As such, some games have taken some liberties with the character and hence, Cyber Akuma was born. He first debuted in Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter as the final boss: a cyborg version of Akuma controlled by Marvel Comics villain Apocalypse.

10. Goals And Aspirations

Akuma seeks to prove himself as the most formidable fighter in existence, willing to destroy anyone in his path to prove this point.

Cyber Akuma, being a servant of Apocalypse, is also willing to destroy anything and anyone in his path, but he does not do it for himself, but rather for his master.

9. Relationships

As one of the main antagonists in Street Fighter, Akuma has deep connections with a lot of cast members. His pursuit to awaken the Satsui no Hado in Ryu, his legendary battles with foes like Oro and Gen, and the disturbing nature of his relationship with his own brother, Gouken, make him one of the most integral pieces in the lore of the series.

By contrast, the only relationship Cyber Akuma has is with his master, Apocalypse, and he’s willing to consider any enemy of Apocalypse his own enemy by default.

8. Character Archetype

Akuma is well known for being a glass cannon, equipped with multiple tools that allow him to adapt to any situation, with gameplay focused on aggression and a “kill or be killed” mentality.

On the other hand, Cyber Akuma is the final boss, and unlike regular Akuma, he has massive health and resistance, being suited to fight two opponents at a time. He is technically unlockable in the game, and to be fair, Akuma himself started out as a hidden boss himself, but the legacy each character carries is way different.

7. Appearance

Most notably, despite all the other differences these characters have, the most obvious one is of course their appearance.

Cyber Akuma is similar to Akuma, except he has a cyborg body, which includes a mechanical arm, a robotic left eye, and two massive wings sprouting from his back.

6. Origin

Akuma was a student of the Ansatsuken until he decided to fully embrace the Satsui no Hado, the dark intent that lies dormant within the very core of that martial art. When he did so, he became demon-like and sacrificed most of his humanity for power, twisting his mind in the process.

Cyber Akuma is the result of Akuma being captured, brainwashed, and modified by Apocalypse after the latter gained interest in the former’s power.

5. Speech

We can really see that Cyber Akuma is not the one we are accustomed to call Akuma when he speaks. Akuma, in his regular version, is full of personality, passion, and hunger.

His mechanical self, though, seems to only care about mindlessly pleasing his master, with quotes like “My new destiny is to serve and annihilate!” and “My creator wants you dead. It is done…”.

4. Legacy

Ever since his debut, Akuma has been featured in countless forms of media and referenced throughout the years countless times in countless games. He continues to show up in every Street Fighter game, and will likely be a mainstay in the series as long as it is running.

Cyber Akuma has not been so fortunate, as all he got since his debut has been small references here and there. Cyber Akuma’s design has been used in special DLC skins for Akuma in other games.

3. Raging Demon

Akuma’s most iconic move is the infamous Shun Goku Satsu or Raging Demon. It is unblockable, requires a very unique input, and deals massive damage, but cannot be used in combos.

Cyber Akuma, who has had his power augmented by Apocalypse, can use the Shining Gou Shock, a far more powerful Raging Demon that can be used mid-air and as part of high-damaging combos as well.

2. Moveset

The aforementioned Raging Demon is remarkable enough to be included in one entry, but the truth is that most of the character’s arsenal is vastly different.

On top of Cyber Akuma simply having powered-up versions of regular Akuma’s moves, he can also perform unique attacks such as firing his robotic arm as an exploding missile and canceling his massive fireballs into a swift teleport that opens the way for a mix-up conversion.

1. Powers and Abilities

Getting to the cream of the crop here. How do you take an over-the-top character like Akuma and make it somehow “enhanced”? What benefits does he take from having half of his body replaced with machinery?

Well, unlike his vanilla form, Cyber Akuma can sacrifice body parts and regrow them at will, he can generate lightning from his legs, he can fly, and Cyclops ending shows that he can even willingly change size. Oh, and he can also grow extra arms. Now that’s an overpowered character.

At the end of the day, Cyber Akuma is still Akuma after his body and mind are tampered with by the villainous Apocalypse. They’re the same character in the core, but separate entities when it comes to their roles in fighting game terms.

One could easily argue that the character requires high execution, which of course is true. But! Hey… this wouldn't stop players all around the world from executing the highest damaging combos that will remove 80% or even 100% of your health bar. In fact, it's a tradition for players to do this when they're playing as this character.

10. -16 punisher Dohatsu Tensho 9 hit Combo

This combo is super easy to perform, which makes it a go to option for most of the people as it doesn’t require any special skills or practice to master. So, this combo is highly recommended whenever you find a chance to land a D+3 on your opponent with a bar at your disposal.

The combo starting move is D+3, which is a low and -11 on-block, making it a safe move to use. However, the extension move d,db,b+3+4 is pretty risky with -22 on-block. So, if your opponent blocks D+3, and then blocks d, db, b+3+4, you will get hit with a combo, which can be dangerous.

Even if this combo has ridiculous damage, it requires a full 2 bars and high execution with f, df, d, db, b+2 immediately after a 2-jab, which is not very easy to do consistently. So, this combo requires a lot more practice than any other Akuma combo.

The combo starts with a 2-jab which is a high hitbox move and extremely safe on-block. Not to mention the move speed because of its generic nature. After that, there is the f, df, d, db, b+2, a high execution move that is safe on-block, but the next move, d, db, b+3+4, is fairly easy to execute.

5 BIG Characters Who Will Be Playable In Tekken 7

Bandai Namco’s release of Tekken 7 to the gaming world will bring back a host of familiar faces and fighting styles as well as a number of new ones as well, as they battle it out together in a competition for dominance and a chance to win the title of the King of Iron Fist tournament. The following are 5 of the “Big” characters that players can choose from:

1: Akuma (Ansatsuken Martial Arts):

Akuma makes a grand appearance in Tekken 7 having coming across from the Street Fighter universe.

Akuma originally comes from Street Fighter and got tied into the Tekken story when Kazumi hires Akuma to kill her husband Heihatchi. It is interesting to see that Bandai Namco were able to make the Street Fighter signature moves integrate into the Tekken control system without any issues. The Ansatsuken style of fighting focuses on killing an opponent rather than incapacitating them, making Akuma a very dangerous enemy.

2: Jack–7 (Brute Force):

One of the game's original characters from back in the PS1 days, this version of Jack is dramatically enhanced.

Jack-7 is a massive character with a massive aggression to match, this mohawked cyborg returns to the game from previous titles, where he was known for his brutal punching ability. Jack-7’s Brute Force fighting style makes him a formidable enemy whose attack might be slow, but is compensated by his excellent ranged attacks. His appearance in Tekken 7 has remained mostly the same with a few small tweaks like the green glowing arms.

3: King (Pro-Wrestling):

Another of the original Tekken characters that returns in Tekken 7 is the jaguar that earns respect in the ring.

King is another fighter that returns to the 7th game in the series from earlier Tekken titles. He specialises in Pro-Wrestling style which is a defensive approach to fast or highly manoeuvrable opponents. He appears as a Luchadore (masked wrestler) who is based on a combination of two other wrestlers, one Japanese and known as “Tiger Mask” and the other Mexican and named Fray Tormenta. A little known fact about King is that he does not speak a single word but instead growls like a jaguar to communicate.

4: Bryan (Kickboxing):

Bryan is another popular character returning to the ring for Tekken 7, having made his first appearance in Tekken 3.

Bryan Fury first appears in the Tekken series during Tekken 3 where he is introduced as an ex-International Police Organisation officer, who was shot dead in a shoot-out in Hong Kong, resulting in his becoming the cyborg he is in the game. He uses kickboxing fighting style making him a powerful enemy, although often lacking in ranged fighting skills. Bryan has a somewhat cruel sense of humour and can sometimes be heard to laugh at an opponent when a particular attack is used against him.

5: Gigas (RushRushRush):

The G Corporation's lethal weapon, Gigas makes an appearance in Tekken 7, intent on destroying Mishima Zaibatsu.

A direct result of the military arms race being waged between Mishima Zaibatsu and the G Corporation, Gigas is a very powerful robot which has an in-built hatred of Mishima and which was the reason for Gigas entering the Tekken world. His rush rush rush style of fighting means he will ground and pound his victim’s until stopped. Gigas has excellent ranged attacks but lacks in safety and also speed of his moves. He knows lots of powerful strikes and he likes to grab a lot. He also appears much larger than the other characters in the game.
