He clearly spends an immense amount of time refining his techniques and trying new plays, which leaves little time for relationships. However, legends such as Ninja, of Fortnite fame, have proved that professional gamers can make time for a Player 2. If Nevix were to branch out on his own in the future, he’d have more time for a significant other. And if we’re lucky, we could see this more personal side of him.

Nevix Scandals

Nevix has not been involved in any major scandals, but he has been criticized for his hero choice at times. Nevix is a flex player, so he is expected to fill the gaps of his team’s lineup. He was especially criticized in his performance during the most recent Overwatch League, shortly after Brigitte was added to the game. He attempted to play as Brigitte but couldn’t effectively support his team. After switching to D.Va, he was quickly destroyed by the opposing Brigitte and Reinhart. Nevix appears to have learned from this mistake, but he does occasionally default to D.Va when his team is struggling, even when she may not be the most effective choice.

Nevix eSports Journey

Nevix is a lovable underdog of the eSports arena. That being said, his skill was apparent from the very beginning. Nevix joined the Misfits in 2016, and his team won the Amazon Gaming Series by shutout in June of that year. The Misfits continued this streak a couple weeks later, by securing victory in The Battle, a minor Overwatch tournament. Understandably confident, the Misfits tackled the 2016 ESL Overwatch Atlantic Showdown. This premier event proved too much for the Misfits, and they lost to Fnatic by a single point.

However, the Misfits were not discouraged, and attempted the Overwatch Open in September of 2016. Nevix and his team defeated EnVyUs 3 to 1, securing a grand prize of $100,000. This proved to be a defining moment for Nevix. His aggressive, effective playstyle earned the respect of other Overwatch players, and more importantly, eSports team recruiters. By this point, Nevix had developed an extremely adaptable toolkit. His primary hero was (and is) Genji, but he had made several impressive plays with D.Va and, surprisingly, Ana. He secured another victory in the first season of the Overwatch Underdogs tournament, just 4 days after the last Misfits win. The Misfits also secured a $30,000 victory in the Dreamhack winter tournament of 2016. Unfortunately, this ended Nevix’s reign of victories with the Misfits. Nevix attempted two more tournaments as a Misfit and failed to place.

This may have been the end of Andreas Karlsson’s gaming career, but another team saw his value. In August of 2017, Nevix joined the roster of Cloud9. After leaving the Misfits, Nevix decided to grow his personal following. This vital decision created the Nevix we know today. More of his plays ended up on YouTube, his Twitch streams gradually attracted more followers, and his Twitter grew towards it’s current following: over 13,000 strong. Ironically, the only tournament of interest during this time was against the Misfits in the first season of the Overwatch Contenders. Cloud9 lost 2 to 3.

In September of 2017, Nevix was revealed as part of the San Francisco Shock’s initial roster. The team placed 9th in the inaugural season of the Overwatch League in June, earning them a prize of $50,000. Nevix is unlikely to play in any minor tournaments soon. The Call of Duty game series has been one of the most successful game series ever released and Activision continue to forge ahead in the industry, releasing new games in the series to this day. To keep the game up to player’s expected standards Call of Duty have decided to take the next installment in the series back to the game’s roots, in the World War 2 era. We take a look at 5 things that players are expecting from Call of Duty – WWII.

1: Campaign Mode Must Be Exciting

The Call of Duty series of games have always held a good reputation for having compelling campaign modes, meaning that the bar is already set high for the World War II themed game coming next in the series. The Call of Duty games have always enjoyed a good name for quality as they use cinematic magic to create a balance between storyline and gameplay, leaving the character with a more immersive experience.

2: Zombies Mode Needs To Return To Its Roots As Well

Zombie Co-op Mode is another feature which has been seen in previous Call of Duty games and which players are accustomed to seeing included in new games for the series. This means that the bar has also been set fairly high for this mode as well, in terms of quality. In earlier games of the series the Zombie mode was based more on survival as throngs of Zombies swarm you in greater and greater difficulty with each level passed.

This style of Zombie mode needs to return in Call of Duty – WWII and likely will due to the WWII theme. Newer features added to Zombie mode have not been adopted by the gaming community as Activision may have wanted and a return to the tried and tested style of this mode of play would make a lot of gamers happy. The thrill and fun seem to have been lost in more recent games in the series.

3: Multiplayer Mode Needs To Remain Fresh And Functional

Gamers will usually consider multiplayer as the most important aspect of any game because once the storyline has been played through a couple of times the experience becomes stale, while multiplayer mode adds competition and freshness back to the game with the addition of new multiplayer maps and game assets. For this reason the Multiplayer mode should be as rich and rewarding as the Campaign mode is.

4: Character Customization Is Important

Faction specific customization for multiplayer and Zombie modes could be enhanced to help players distinguish who is who on the map during a game and is a feature that gamers have wanting for some time. Customization provides a sense of individuality for gamers and also should also allow their characters to stand out in a crowd. The customization options should remain realistic and suited to the World War 2 theme.

5: Take Away The Micro-Transactions From The Game

Players want to see a return to the older systems of leveling up with levels unlocking guns, perks, items and other rewards for leveling up, and a removal of the system that now seems to replace it which uses drop boxes and unlock keys much like CSGO and Overwatch to name just 2 examples. In defense of Overwatch though, their crates unlock random items and those items are usually only cosmetic items, not player stats influencing items. The balance of time and effort required to the rewards given for such is a key point that needs to be focused on in Call of Duty – WWII.

Call of Duty aims to be the next avengers

With the first movie set to begin shooting next year, this could be the beginning of Hollywood’s next big-budget action legacy.

According to Stacey Sher, co-president of the newly established Activision Blizzard studios, scripts have already been generated for more than one Call of Duty based project. Speaking about the studio's exciting plans, Sher also dropped some hints about the writing process, stating that the final material drew on research involving military experts and retired special forces soldiers.

“We have plotted out many years,” Sher announced in an interview with the Guardian earlier this week. “We put together this group of writers to talk about where we were going. There’ll be a film that feels more like Black Ops, the story behind the story. The Modern Warfare series looks at what it’s like to fight a war with the eyes of the world on you. And then maybe something that is more of a hybrid, where you are looking at private, covert operations, while a public operation is going on.”

Nick van Dike, Sher’s fellow co president, also chipped in to give us some more information “It’s going to have the same sort of high-adrenaline, high-energy aesthetic as the game, but it’s not a literal adaptation. It’s a much more broad and inclusive, global in scope ... a big, tentpole Marvel-esque movie.”

New talent is what makes this announcement exciting

Stacey Sher and Nick Van Dyke, Co-Presidents of Activision Blizzard Studios.

Sher and Van Dyke aren’t just blank suits either, far from it. Sher is an academy award nominee and is credited as producer of several classic hits, from Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained to Zach Braff’s cult classic: Garden State. With those kind of credentials, it’s safe to say that the new studio is not taking any chances with its beloved franchise, which is a good sign.

Sher isn’t the only heavy hitter in this line-up, Co-president Van Dyke was previously a senior executive at Disney where he is credited in playing a key role in the acquisition of both the Marvel and Star Wars IP’s. Both brands under Van Dyke’s watchful eye have grown to become incredible artistic and financial successes for Disney, having branched out into various plots with a host of different characters that have resonated with audiences worldwide.

It's easy to see that if anyone can make this work Van Dyke and Sher are the ones to do it.

Making the Marvel formula work for Call of Duty

The Studio has announced its plans to pay tribute to the origins of the Call of Duty franchise.

In a move that comes as welcome news for long term fans and history buffs alike, the pair have also announced their intentions to create a TV series focused on the roots of the Call of Duty franchise, apparently aiming to mirror Marvel's relationship with Netflix.

The new series will be focused on historical conflicts such as World War 2, and even Vietnam and shows the level of dedication the studio is demonstrating to creating a wide array of high quality content.

“If you look at Marvel, they started working when you had Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, and real film-makers on board as well. What I think made The Avengers so great was the writing and directing. You cared about those characters.” Said Van Dyke

“If you just chase the empty blockbuster, and have nothing to say in the genre, forget about it.”
