10. Aizawa at the USJ vs. LOV

This is Aizawa vs. the LOV invading the USJ to attack the students.

This is the first fight where we see precisely what Aizawa can do. He’s quick and agile, and his quirk, mixed with his scarf, makes him a force to be reckoned with. Now I may be a little biased towards fights with Aizawa because I’m madly in love with him, but his scenes are still incredible because they show how he can still do so much as a hero with just the right weapon to aid his quirk.

9. Mirio vs Overhaul

Mirio is fighting Overhaul to free Eri and stop his quirk-stopping/enhancing drug ring.

I wish I could go back in time to experience watching this whole section of the storyline for the first time. There’s so much to lose here - not only are the kids caught in the middle of it all, but a little girl’s life is at risk, and dangerous drugs are at risk of taking out heroes and empowering villains. This is where we get to see how incredible Mirio is as a person. He’s willing to risk his life to protect this little girl! It’s such a good fight; it can even make you forget that he looks like the anime version of Tin-Tin.

8. Deku vs Overhaul

Deku is fighting Overhaul after Mirio’s battle to save Eri.

This fight, like Mirio’s, is highly intense. Deku is showing his conviction as a hero, Eri accepts the help she needs, and we get a chance to see just how powerful Deku is and what his power, One For All, is capable of. With Eri’s help, he gets to go Super Saiyan against Overhaul. There’s a moment in the fight where Overhaul says that Deku would never be able to truly “exploit” Eri’s power. I think that’s where we see what kind of a person Overhaul is. Even when he’s near death, even when Deku is literally tearing him apart, and even when Mirio is willing to risk his life for her, he doesn’t understand that they’re not doing this to use her. They’re doing this to give her safety and a chance at life. That shows how great these kids are and how scummy this bird-mask man is.

7. Endeavor and Hawks vs. Nomu

Endeavor and (sometimes) Hawks fight against a powerful Nomu looking to attack the strongest hero it can find.

I remember the excitement when this came out because we were finally getting the chance to see Hawks animated. Not to mention, he’s getting to fight beside his hero! Though I’m sure Endeavor wasn’t exactly as thrilled about it. This fight was Endeavor’s moment to show his strength and worth as the number one hero. Even with my hatred of Endeavor, I can’t deny that he’s worthy of that title based on sheer strength. This is also what I think would count as the beginning of Endeavor’s redemption arch. We see how this attack and his injuries affect his children and his attempt to explain his actions. Though, my feelings about that could make a whole new article. Now forget Endeavor. Can we talk about how badass Hawks is, even if he wasn’t a big player in this fight? Look at how those skinny legs move!

6. Deku vs Todoroki

Deku and Todoroki go head-to-head at the UA sports festival. This clip shows when Deku finally gets Todoroki to accept his abilities, despite his traumas from his father.

This one fight was all my best friend had to show me to convince me to watch My Hero Academia. This fight isn’t just great because we’re getting more opportunities to see the kids show their true power and how much they’ve grown; it’s genuinely great because I think this is where you see them bonding together. Todoroki says Deku’s ‘screwing around’ by helping him. Still, I believe Deku’s trying to get Todoroki to show his full potential as his friend and as his opportunity to see just how powerful he is. We’ve already seen that Todoroki was an influential figure, but that wasn’t enough for Deku, the masochist. He wants to feel the burn. Fire and ice burn. This is also definitely where Todoroki starts to get a crush on Deku.

5. Uraraka vs Bakugo

Uraraka. Is. A. Badass. I will take no ‘if,’ ‘and,’ or ‘but’ about it. We know Bakugo has power. He is getting a chance to show his skill. But at this moment, Uraraka hasn’t gotten much of up to this fight. A chance to show that just because her quirk doesn’t have raw might, doesn’t mean she’s not strong or doesn’t have skill. And we must appreciate that Bakugo doesn’t hesitate to fight her as an equal. He said, “These hands are rated E for EVERYONE!”

4. Fatgum and Kirishima vs. Rappa

Fatgum and Kirishima fight the villain Rappa so their allies can move forward to defeat Overhaul.

Fatgum warms my heart. Of course, I had already loved him before this scene, but it just hits differently here. You see how dedicated he is to his students. You also see Kirishima having a “coming to Jesus” moment where his hero, Crimson Riot, and his teacher, Fatgum, help him realize the true extent of his power. Also, we get to see the total hotness of Fatgum. Dad bod and gym bod in one man.

3. Aizawa vs Momo and Todoroki

Todoroki and Momo fight Aizawa to pass their practical exam.

This fight doesn’t really involve Todoroki or even necessarily Aizawa. This is Momo’s moment. Like Kirishima, Momo is constantly struggling with her self-confidence. Momo’s quirk is more based on strategy and cleverness rather than just the pure power of her quirk. After losing at the sports festival, her ego was shot! This ended up being her opportunity to prove herself. Her plan, her skills, and her quirk were able to beat someone as powerful as Eraserhead. While I adore Aizawa - my handsome anime husband - I love that the more critical point is rooting for Momo and another girl in 1-A getting her moment!

2. Aizawa vs Dabi

As you can imagine, watching my anime husband fighting my favorite hot anime bad boy causes mixed feelings. This is also one of our first looks at Dabi. Though we’re not necessarily seeing him in the best light, we are getting just a morsel of his intense power, and man does it leave you hungry for more! Not to mention Aizawa’s handy work with that scarf! Honestly, I can’t go on enough about it—definitely the coolest weapon in MHA.

1. Jirou and Koda vs Present Mic

Jirou and Koda have to face Present Mic to pass their practical exam.

So last, but certainly not least for me, is Jirou and Koda against Present Mic! This one is sillier than the other battles on this list, but that could be part of why I love it. I’ll also never turn down more content with Presentation Michael. Koda also gets his tiny moment where he overcomes his anxiety just long enough to beat our favorite shouty man. And I can’t blame Mic for his reaction to those bugs. I’d crawl out of my skin and simply pass away if that happened to me. Thanks for the nightmares, Koda.

Light was both the villain and the main character, which makes this extremely interesting as he uses witty measures and strategies to escape L, an elite investigator that plans on taking him down as he continues his false sense of judgment toward criminals and innocent people alike. I mean, no one—not even a god, could tell us whether we should die or live.

3. Kaguya-sama Love is War

The President (Miyuki Shirogane) and Vice-President (Kaguya Shinomiya) had led the Shuchiin Academy’s student council and has liked each other ever since. Having too much pride on the line, the two of them engage in a war on getting the other person to confess—because whoever confesses first, loses the game of love!

Shirogane and Kaguya is definitely couple goals with their brains and humor. With a mix of comedy and wit, this series had been popular with its clear depiction of main characters’ Shirogane and Kaguya’s thoughts toward each other, and their witty, humorous plans on how to get the other one to confess—all in the namesake of not losing the game of love they set among themselves.

4. Monster

Japanese surgeon, Tenma Kenzo’s life was never the same when he gets involved with a serial killer, who also happened to be one of his former patients.

Monster is one of the best mangas out there that will have you wrapped in the realities of life. Both the main character and main villain are clever and brilliant in their own ways, with one of them using it all for the wrong reasons. But as you read it through its intelligent plots and driven characters, you’d come by to understand why the main villain and the main character had done things seemingly in the right path, but had them thinking: does choosing the right path meant you’re on the good side?

5. One Outs

Desperate to find the reason why his team couldn’t reach the championships, Hiromichi Kojima plays a game called One Outs, and meets a prodigy that had a booming record of 499 consecutive wins in the said game. Upon assessing the man’s skills, Kojima’s convinced that this games’ ace player is the key to bringing them to the championships. And so, he laid out a bet, and played a gambling game with Tokichi Toua, with his career on the line.

The story is a mix of both gambling and baseball, and how the ever-cool Tokichi Toua, tries to outwit them all whether in a game of gambling or in baseball.

6. Tomodachi Game

After Katagiri Yuichi’s friends are accused of stealing the class’s money for their highschool trip, Yuichi and four more of his friends are kidnapped and forced to play a game that would ultimately destroy their friendship and trust toward one another: the Tomodachi Game.

Tomodachi Game started with a generic plot but eventually surprised the readers with the main character’s cleverness and twists no one had expected. If you’d want to know more about how Yuichi played the game, grab the volumes fast!

7. Bokura no Kiseki

Minami Harasumi is considered an odd ball in class as he retells the life of a princess whose kingdom was on the brink of ruin. The story of this distressed princess proved true when Harasumi rediscovered how to summon the magic he possess in his past life—as Princess Veronica herself.

If you think Harasumi discovering that he was Princess Veronica’s reincarnation was the end of it, then you’re most definitely into a ride! The entire story was driven into knowing how Princess Veronica’s kingdom were brought to ruin—and more importantly, who had killed who. The main character was smart in the past and was still even if he was no longer the same person (physically) as he was before. Harasumi and his classmates and friends unravel the mystery of their past, and the perpetrator that pushed them toward their death. And—major spoilers—Harasumi wasn’t the only one in class who had a pass life.

Not wanting to stop his passion for solving crimes, Conan decides to discretely help Ran’s dad in his investigations, letting the old guy take credit for what he has solved as he finds the culprit to help him go back to his usual form.

Detective Conan is a classic when it came to solving crimes and mysteries. If there’s a golden age for crime mysteries, then Detective Conan is the right manga for that! Join Conan as he unravel the mysteries of the crimes Ran’s father handles, and at the same time, delve into where he should find the antidote for his body that reverted back to that of a child’s.

9. Usogoi

Bak Madarame, a genius gambler better known as “Usogui” The Lie Eater, places his life on the line to gamble against the neutralizers called Kakerou, a powerful organization that referees these gambling games.

Was there ever more important than gambling your way for money? Genius gambler Bak Madarame says otherwise as he challenges the gamblers that reek of lies and gain control over the Kakerou Organization.

10. Special A

Hikari Hanazono had always known she was the best in everything. But that everything she ever thought of had come crumbling down when she met Kei Takishima, who beat her in a match whom she challenged him into doing. Declaring that Kei was her rival, Hikari enrolls in the same school as him, and both of them got in a class which the school categorized as “Special A,” a group of students with exemplary skills and abilities. Hikari tries to defeat Kei in every way possible, without knowing that Kei thinks of her as the exact opposite of what he is to her—he’s completely in love with Hikari.

Special A is one of the earlier mangas that delve into themes of rivalry in school. And the driven factor of it all? The other one was way smarter and unbeatable in the first place. The story depicts the struggles and growing relationships among the students that belong to Special A, and how they manage their lives as geniuses. Of course, with Kei’s growing feelings for Hikari being the main focus of it all.

11. Sket Dance

Sket Dance consist of three hilarious friends: Himeko, Switch, and Bossun. All of them have unique abilities which help fulfill the purpose of their club: to help out people in need.

The misadventures of these genius trio is as clever as the series gets! Not only is it intelligently humorous, but the story delves into the lives of these extraordinary highschoolers that only wanted nothing but to help the people around them.

12. Dr. Stone

After Taiju awakens from his slumber, he realizes the civilization he grew-up in was no longer around, and everyone he’d ever known had turned into stone. He then meets Senku, a friend who’s definitely fond of science. With the combination of Taiju’s strength and Senku’s brains, the two of them work together to revive those who’re prettified.

Indeed, two is definitely better than one! Dr. Stone is one of those stories who’re between funny and realistic… or perhaps both. Its version of science fiction is what would have you drawn into the story, sucked into the realities of the world that would have you thinking until you fall asleep.

13. Gunka no Baltazar

Major Bernd Baltazar was a clever soldier. His quick-wittiness had him advance in ranks in no time. Then, his life takes a sudden shift as he was reassigned in a neighboring allied nation’s military school filled with untrained students and resisting civilians—the exact opposite of what he was used to. Would he be able to gain their trust along the process?

Major Baltazar wouldn’t so much as skip ranks if he’s not that smart to begin with. Furthermore, he wouldn’t be chosen to be reassigned if he didn’t have the skills for it!

14. Banana Fish

When Ash Lynx, a notorious gang leader, murderer with an unforgettable face and clever mind, and Eiji Okumura, a Japanese photographer traveling to New York, meet, they become allies that try to uncover the mysteries that surrounds a series of murders by someone called “Banana Fish.”

Placed in the shoujo category on its earlier publications (to which raised a few questions in Japan), Banana Fish isn’t your average crime, wit, and mystery storyline. Every chapter goes deeper with each character, especially toward main characters’ Ash and Eiji. If you’re looking for a mix of street-smart and looks, then Ash is just the right person for you! This story is worth ten shots for me.

15. Ajin

Kei Nagai knows little to none about the immortal creatures called “Ajin” that first appeared in Africa, 17 years ago. His life made a drastic turn when he was involved in an accident, and suddenly became an Ajin himself.

Well, in this story, the main character is only second to the villain’s wit and intelligence. But what made Kei Nagai on the list was the fact that he didn’t have this sense of “false heroism” in him. He was, in fact, one of the most relatable character whose decisions, plans, and tactics made sense. On the other hand, the main villain, Satou, had a motive uncommon to any villain out there: he didn’t give a frig about anything else but living the best out of his immortality.

Admit it or not, there are tons of readers that based-off art-style no matter how good the story is. The manga’s art is unique as it had generated varying styles for characters and sceneries drawn in every panel. Below are—not in chronological order—the [Top 15] mangas with the best artwork that wouldn’t easily be taken out of your mind.

1. Tokyo Ghoul

Ken Kaneki’s story started out with a meet-cute but ended up bloody when the girl he went on a date bit him, and had eventually made him a Ghoul himself: creatures with insane abilities and an intense hunger for human flesh.

Ishida Sui had combined modern and classic through his dystopian themes and incredible fight scenes.

2. Berserk

Pursued by demons and stripped of his beloved’s humanity, Guts goes wild and searched all ends to take the head of the person he once considered as his friend: Griffith.

Need I say more that this has got to be the most meticulous art ever made on planet Earth? All crown and glory to the author who had just passed away last year, Kentaro Miura.

3. Vinland Saga

Thorfinn seeks to avenge his father by following Askeladd—the mercenary who ended his father’s life. He later-on regrets his actions of brute and ruthlessness after feeling empty of Askeladd’s death and pursues a life that resolves conflict without bloodshed.

Vinland Saga is filled with beautiful and breathtaking sceneries that had taken inspiration from different parts of medieval Europe that are worthy of praise to its artist, mangaka Makoto Yukimura.

4. Otoyomegatari

Set in the 19th century Turkic Central Asia, Amir Halgal weds Karluk Eihon—only that Amir is eight years older than his groom. The story goes through how Amir adapted with the differences of the culture she had grown up to, as well as warming up to both her husband and his family. The manga doesn’t only feature Amir, but other young brides along with their struggles in family and life in general.

Author Kaoru Mori is the same person who made the heartfelt story of Emma, a manga about forbidden love between a maid and an aristocrat. Mori had beautifully drawn the lives of the brides struggling of fitting-in and adjusting to their new family. But what’s incredible is the fact that even the fabric of the clothes are intricate, every detail noted in the traditional garments seen in Turkic Central Asia.

5. Mahou Tsukai no Yome

Chise’s life had a 360-degree turn when she was bought by Magus, Elias Einsworth, during an auction somewhere in a hidden part of Europe. Not only did she had found a home to go to, but she also became his bride and apprentice.

The magical creatures and objects drawn in each page is one of the strongest aspects of this series. Complimented by its solid, magic-driven plot and heartfelt journey of Elias and Chise’s developing relationship, Kore Yamazaki has portrayed us a spectacular image of some of the creatures describe in European folklores and it’s most definitely one we should look forward to.

6. One Punch Man

After training for three years, Saitama has gained the strength he wanted to achieve, defeating several strong enemies with a single punch. Eventually, he felt bored with his effortless victories. But despite his strength, Saitama is still not recognized by Hero Association, and through this, he has accepted to apprentice Genos, a powerful cyborg that admired him. Saitama and Genos journey toward becoming powerful and recognized heroes.

If it had to only be one mangaka out there that had refined skills in illustrating a godly fight scene of aliens and a bald, badass superhero, ONE is definitely the one!

7. Vagabond

Accused and in hiding as the alleged person who killed his bestfriend, Vagabond centers around how Musashi grew out of his reckless and violent 17-year-old self that thought strength was the center of living, to an enlightened adult who is nowhere near perfect, but chooses to grow every single day of his journey in knowing himself better than anyone else.

Vagabond and Slam Dunk creator, Takehiko Inoue’s art style has evolved through the years. Nevertheless, it had started out strong, and has continued to improve up to this date. His drawings are not far from what we see in our everyday lives, the character’s features already comparable to what you see in pictures captured by cameras.

8. Ran to Haiiro no Sekai

Ran is the youngest and only daughter of a family of sorcerers. She most definitely has a lot of power and is mischievous in her own way. Shizuka, the most powerful sorceress, and also happens to be her mother, lives far away to fulfill a major duty of protecting the city. Head of Sorcerers, Zen, is also the head of their family, and leaves all familial duties of watching a close eye on Ran to his responsible son, Jin. Without too much supervision, we’d wonder where Ran’s misadventures would lead her.

There’s nothing more pleasing to the eye than a good ‘ol fantasy of a family of strong sorcerers. With the huge addition of Akie Iri, the story all boils into a worthy masterpiece that will caught one’s eyes in its lineart and depiction of magic.

9. Kokou no Hito

Lonesome and transfer student, Mori, is coaxed by a classmate into climbing the school building on their first day of school. Without hesitating, Mori begins his climb despite the risks that could lead him to his eventual death. When he finally reached the top, a sense of fulfillment coursed through his veins. Through this, Mori’s passion for rock climbing is born.

Passion is everything that drives us to success. Perhaps illustrator Shin-ichi Sakamoto has indeed found it while he drew every scene and panel that completes co-author Yoshiro Nabeda’s wholesome story.

10. Oyasumi punpun

Punpun, a young boy that can summon God by chanting “Dear God, Dear God, tinkle tinkle boy!” had an appearance of a bird doodle. He went through various struggles in life, especially in coping with his family and friends as he gets through depression.

Perhaps this is one of God’s favorites, and just like Punpun’s ability, the art had called God himself to do the deed—or not. But we have author Inio Asano to thank for blessing us a good depiction of the themes of story that are relevant up to date and are common struggles among teenagers and adults alike.

11. Tsubasa Chronicles Reservoir (Chronicle of the Wings)

After the shattering of Sakura’s memories in different dimensions, Syaoran sought the advice of a witch from another world. There, he was told that the only way to regain the princess’ memories is through finding it—in the form of a feather, that is. Each feather contains a chronicle of her memories, and it’s a step closer for them in knowing what had happened the day she has lost it. Without an ounce of hesitation, Syaoran and their comrades travel to different lands to find the missing feathers of Sakura.

This might be one of CLAMP’s pride and joy. Despite the anime not unraveling the rest of the bigger plottwists in the manga, it’s no doubt that every panel was a work of art. The details placed were gorgeous, and of course, the trademark of any CLAMP produced mangas and animations.

12. Uzumaki

Kurozu-cho is a small town in Japan that is allegedly plagued by a curse that came from spirals. This had resulted into the obsession of the people of the town into anything spiral around them.

Author Itou Junji is praise-worthy of such a masterpiece as he did everything by pen, ink, and paper! The art depicted in the manga strayed away from digitalized edits, and had proceeded with the classics, which makes it to be one of the best arts drawn in mangas to this day.

13. Inuyashiki

Father and hardworking Inuyashiki didn’t look his actual age due to overwork. Upon buying a house of his own, his family being ungrateful for it, Inuyashiki bought a dog and learned he had cancer the day after. Hopeless and feeling alone despite having a family by his side, Inuyashiki breaks down in the park and meets an extraterrestrial object that rid of his cancer, but also bestowed to him a mechanical body that changed the course of his life.

The art is superb in all of its aspects. As another work of Mangaka Hiroya Oku, it was in no doubt that the art is detailed, and this was shown when he had combined an unusual pair of the elderly and machines. Besides the attention-grabbing and action-packed plots, Inuyashiki’s art style isn’t comparable to anything.

14. Gantz

Lonesome and highschooler Kei Kurono dies together with his classmate, Masaru Katou. Both of them wakes-up in one of the rooms of an apartment where allegedly, the dead are transferred, and a black sphere called Grantz, awaits and sends them out on a bounty hunt to kill aliens residing here on Earth.

The artwork in this manga is a blessing to one’s eyes as well as the intricate details put between pen and ink to create impactful and suspense-filled panels engraved in a reader’s mind. Author and mangaka, Hiroya Oku, has proven that the story’s plot is thrilling, but his art makes you stay even if all else fails.

15. Blame

Blame presents the story of Killy, the bravest among men that traversed the labyrinth and fought off deadly cyborgs while in search for a human with the Net Terminal Gene; the gene that has the potential to help recover the world from corruption.

[Top 10] Rurouni Kenshin Best Fights

What are the best fights in Rurouni Kenshin?

One of my earliest exposure to anime was with a show called Rurouni Kenshin, or at that point of my life it was introduced as Samurai X. It was a pretty well known anime/manga especially among 90s kids and a lot of us probably have tried to pull off the techniques of the Hiten Mitsurugi style or the style of the other fighters in the show. It’s a bit slow-paced and the fights aren’t as flashy as the likes of Bleach and Naruto during its run but it did have a lot of memorable battles and characters. That’s probably the reason why the live actions are well-loved among old fans and are garnering new fans to this old anime.

if you’re looking for some well-choreographed close-combat fights, Rurouni Kenshin has some of the best out there. With the movie’s release fast approaching let’s take a look back at some of the best fights in the anime.

10. Kenshin Vs Sanosuke

Kenshin vs Sano Scene

The episode introduces the newest member to Kenshin’s gang, a former member of the Sekiho Army, Sanosuke. The fight was split into two parts, the first happening at midnight but was interrupted. Their last fight was set in a different time where no one could interfere. We get to see pieces of Sanosuke’s back story playing out during the battle till he is ultimately defeated. It is also the last time we’ll be seeing him use his zanbato as far as the anime is concerned.

The battle is used as a great introduction to Kenshin’s new ally as you see how strong Sanosuke is. His ability to lift a weapon several times his height and weight shows his strength while his ability to take in blow after blow from Kenshin is another incredible feat that showed his endurance and will in battle. While he is still weaker than Kenshin, it was a great starting point for Sanosuke to steadily improve his way of fighting.

9. Yahiko Vs Kariwa Henya

While not a major villain, Henya did cause a bit of a problem when he was sent to attack Aoiya while Kenshin was away. The fight was not a high action fight and not many blows were exchanged but it did get to show off Yahiko’s ability to learn by watching and his quick wit in battle. Here we see a glimpse of Yahiko’s training starting to pay off as he can combine the Kamiya Kasshin style with the Hiten Mitsurugi style.

I felt it was about high time Yahiko got some action in there. It must have been frustrating to be just a bystander to all of Kenshin’s fights and adventures. While he is often seen in the show, it isn’t until this episode where he truly shines as a capable swordsman—okay, the start of his journey as a capable swordsman.

8. Hiko Seijuro vs Fuji

While the battle at Aoiya seems to have taken a bad turn, especially with the sudden backup of the other two members of the Ten Swords, Elder Saizuchi and Fuji, all hope of winning seems to be gone. Seijuro suddenly shows up right on time and faces Fuji, convincing Fuji to battle him fairly.

We have to give Hiko some credit, he is the strongest swordsman in the entire series. Sadly, he wasn’t used as much in the anime or manga due to him being able to just solve all of Kenshin’s problems if he was given a more active role. We were at least given the opportunity to see him fight Fuji. Although the fight was pretty short compared to the other major fights in the series. You can see a lot of thought was put into his entrance though.

7. Kenshin vs Aoshi

Determined to claim the title of the strongest, Aoshi battles Kenshin to prove that he is the one worthy of the title. Aoshi does manage to deliver a deadly blow but Kenshin manages to recover and even block the second one. Despite both fighters being able to knock the other off, Kenshin is the first one able to get back on his feet.

A battle between 2 of the strongest swordsmen in Japan, aside from this being a battle of swords, it was also a battle between philosophies. The ideas of the meaning strength clash between these two and it felt more like a battle of words. Still we got to see Aoshi’s Kaiten Kenbu which was supposed to kill Kenshin upon impact. Luckily Kenshin managed to take minimum damage by using scabbard as a buffer. That split second defense technique is probably something none of the other characters would have pulled off.

6. Saito Vs. Kenshin

A battle between two former rivals. The fight was originally supposed to test Kenshin’s skills as a swordsman strong enough to face Shishio but as the battle drags on, traces of the “Battousai” in Kenshin start to resurface, sparking the same old rivalry Saito had back when he was a member of the Shinsengumi.

Similar to previous fights we see traces of Kenshin’s old self from his Battousai days come up here. This particular battle against someone from his past is practically the closest we see him from going back to being the manslayer. We also get to see a lot of underhanded tricks come into play such as a belt and jacket being used in what we originally thought was just going to be a fight using swords. We are reminded that there are no clean fights being done during the revolution and Saito isn’t afraid of using whatever tricks or items he has up his sleeve to his advantage. Fights like these bring us back to how this anime, underneath all its comedy, does have a lot of dark elements.

5. Sanosuke vs Anji

While making their way to finally battle Shishio, the group find themselves in the Mount of Hiei and Shrine of the Six Torii where a number of arranged duels are made. They have to defeat each fighter in order to proceed and finally face Shishio. The first duel is Sanosuke vs Anji, someone who has taught Sano the Futae no Kiwami.

While Sano is one of Kenshin’s stronger allies among his regular group of friends, he did have a bit of a losing streak prior to this battle. I’m glad they decided to finally give Sano a fighting chance to show off his growth in the anime. Originally, Sano planned on winning by overwhelming his former mentor with a series of punches but then he finally decided to put a gamble and use Futae no Kiwami on his mentor as well—a technique that would have destroyed an opponent from the inside. Sadly, the duel ends as a cliffhanger here, if you want to check it out, rewatch episode 47-48.

4. Kenshin vs Jinei

After their first encounter Jinei gets obsessed with trying to beat the legendary Battousai, but has no way to draw him out yet. Looking for an opportunity Jinei nabs Kaoru, knowing that Kenshin will fight him more seriously if he uses her as a hostage.

One of the first serious fights Kenshin has had in a while—Jinei pushed Kenshin enough to want to kill him. This is also the first drawn-out battle we see in season 1 and viewers will get to see the Battojutsu—and double Battojutsu all in one episode. Despite Kenshin using a Sakabato which is a heavier blade that will slow him down by a fraction, he still manages to come up with counters to Jenei’s onslaught. While we know that in previous episodes that there are people out there who want to prove themselves as the best swordsman against Kenshin, Jinei is only the first of the stronger ones that will come and bother Kenshin’s attempt at a peaceful life.

3. Saito vs Shishio

After Shishio uses the Guren Kaina attack effectively knocking out Kenshin, Saito suddenly busts through the door by using his Gatotsu Stance. Saito then proceeds to try to take down Shishio.

Here we get to see how strong of an antagonist Shishio is, being able to take down Kenshin and even Saito who used up his Gatotsu stances against him. Even with the advantage of having his opponents fight before they get to him, he still has a race after time and even his body should have shown some level of exhaustion at this point. After he manages to defeat Saito; Sano and Aoshi also try to take him down but all of them struggle up until Kenshin finally regains consciousness.

2. Kenshin Vs Sojiro

Kenshin vs Sojiro Scene

Kenshin and Sojiro’s second duel in the series. As the fight drags on, we see Sojiro gaining the upper hand until the short intermission revealing Sojiro’s past. Kenshin somehow manages to let Sojiro begin questioning his reason for fighting alongside Shishio causing Sojiro to be unfocused and emotional during battle.

By far, my favorite battle in the entire series. While the New Kyoto Arc does have a version up in the site, it doesn’t feel as intense as the original animation. In their first fight it was pretty much established that Sojiro is by far faster than Kenshin, but his biggest advantage over Kenshin is his control over his emotion—up until Kenshin breaks that. allowing Kenshin the opportunity to break Sojirou’s sword, a sort of payback from breaking his original reverse blade.

1. Kenshin vs Shishio

The final battle of the second season, Kenshin insists on his no-killing principles and is badly injured. Shishio seems to have the upper hand in this fight but Kenshin has yet to use all the techniques of the Hiten Mitsurugi Style.

The second season concluded with the best battle of the entire anime and Shishio, for me at least he was the best villain as far as the anime is concerned. He made sure Kenshin was already worn out from previous battles before challenging him to a face off. In this battle we see most of the techniques of Kenshin being used—even the final one he recently learned from his master. Now, the battle would have ended a lot sooner if Kenshin would have used a regular sword, but the dragged-out battles keep the drama and suspense coming from every fight.

Was up, everybody! Your friendly neighborhood Shounen man here with another DragonBall Z list for you guys to power up over. Today’s list is a great one. Focusing on the best attacks in DBZ history. Anime is known for its outlandishly brilliant and over-the-top attacks. DBZ is known in anime for having some of the most beautifully destructive attacks in the entire medium. We will see attacks that are great because they are extremely dangerous with crazy destructive potential. We will see attacks that are amazing because they are unique and weird. We will also see some attacks that are just beautiful to look at. So without further ado, let’s go together and see what the TOp 15 DBZ best attacks that were amazing.

15. Dabura's Spit

Coming in at number 15 we have Dabura’s Spit! Here we have our first addition to the unique category. During the Buu Saga, our heroes headed off to confront the evil wizard Babidi. What they were greeted with was his right-hand man, the demon king Dabura. This king of the underworld was being mind-controlled by Babidi and used a very unique ability of his to stop Piccolo and Krillin in their tracks. Dabura’s spit is like a venom that can turn people into stone. All he needs to do is spit on his opponents to take them out of the battle. That makes him a very dangerous opponent.

14. Special Beam Cannon

Coming in at number 14 we have the Special Beam Cannon! This attack sticks right into the destructive category. During the beginning of the Saiyan Saga at the very start of the show, our heroes faced off against Raditz. Raditz, who was newly revealed to be Goku’s brother, kidnaps Gohan who is our hero’s son. Goku and Piccolo then head to face off against the new enemy. They quickly realize that they are no match for Raditz and come up with a plan to stop him. The plan is to use Piccolo’s new technique, the special beam cannon. This new technique allows him to condense his energy down to a point and fire a very powerful beam. Their plan works but Goku dies in the process.

13. Ghost Kami-Kaze Attack

Coming in at number 11 we have the Ghost Kami-Kaze Attack! Here we have an attack falling into the unique category. Straight from the mind of Gotenks, who has some pretty interesting techniques, this attack takes an awesome form. Gotenks creates little ghosts from his mouth one by one. Then he can give them commands to attack people. These little clones of Gotenks will chase down their foes and explode on impact causing a lot of damage. These ghosts have hilarious voices and bring to mind memories of Cell Jrs. As well as having some pretty cartoony and funny tactics.

12. Body Change

Coming in at number 12 we have Body Change! Here’s another one for the unique category. After Goku defeats the Ginyu Force, Jeice escapes while Vegeta kills Burter. Jeice having barely avoided this fate himself rushed to find his leader Ginyu and get his help. When Ginyu faces off against Goku he quickly realizes that he is no match for the Saiyan. This makes Ginyu excited though as he begins to laugh and punches a hole through his own chest. He then fires a full-body beam at Goku which allows him to switch bodies with our hero. Now in the injured body of Ginyu, Goku is powerless to stop the villain from taking off. This attack is such a slick move to completely one-up an opponent that you had no chance of beating.

11. Big Bang Attack

Coming in at number 11 we have the Big Bang Attack! This is a move seated firmly in the destructive category. Vegeta, one of the best masters of destruction on the show, shows off this super powerful move quite a few times in the series. One of my favorites is when he shows up to Goku and Android 19’s fight. Due to a heart condition, Goku was losing the battle against the mechanical monster. Vegeta shows up, immediately showing off his new Super Saiyan form. He then easily batters the Android around before ending the fight with a Big Bang attack that leaves nothing behind but 19’s head.

10. Hell Zone Grenade

Coming in at number 10 we have the Hell zone Grenade! This move falls into the beautiful category. While Goku was still recovering from his heart condition on Roshi island, Android 17,18, and 16 showed up to kill Goku. Piccolo stood in their way as our hero’s lone defender. 17 decided to face our favorite Namekian alone. Having recently fused with his other half Kami, Piccolo gained a tremendous boost in power. Now, much to 17’s surprise, he was matching him blow for blow. During their fight, both warriors pulled out every trick they knew. Piccolo unveiled this new move in which he fired a bunch of brilliant balls of energy around 17. He then made them all crash into him in an attempt to end their battle.

9.Spirit Bomb

Coming in at number 9 we have the Spirit Bomb! This move sits in the beautiful category for me. Here we have one of the signature moves of our main hero and the whole series itself. After Goku died in the battle against Raditz he went to train under King Kai in the afterlife. Here he learned a few of his most famous techniques. One of these was the spirit bomb. A move where he gathers energy from all around, sometimes even ranging out into the universe, to create a beautiful ball of pure energy. Goku has used this move many times in the series to stop many enemies.

8.Human Extinction Attack

Coming in at number 8 we have the Human Extinction ray! This move is definitely in the destructive category. During Super Buu’s assault on Kami’s lookout, he fires off this insane attack. With a focus on destroying everyone on earth, this attack splits into an innumerable amount of beams and does just what its name says. Buu uses this move to kill almost every human on the planet, which was a devastating loss for our heroes. We’ve seen planet-busting attacks before but a move that specifically hunts people down to pierce through them killing them on the spot is particularly cruel.

7. Heat Dome Attack

Coming in at number 7 we have the Heat Dome Attack! This move falls into the destructive category. We get to see this awesome attack in action when future Trunks goes back to his time and confronts Cell. Cell believes he is sneaking up on Trunks until the half-Saiyan starts berating him, calling him a lame version of a boogeyman. At this point, Trunks was far stronger than this still 1st form Cell. He easily blasts Cell away from the city into a field. He then proceeded to beat Cell effortlessly. Cell tries to fire a Kamehameha but Trunks blows him away with the Heat Dome Attack.

6. Candy Beam

Coming in at number 6 we have the Candy Beam! The candy beam is a move that embodies the very essence of unique. During the fight between Goku and Majin Vegeta, their energy was stolen to fuel Majin Buu’s revival. Once he was brought back to life Buu began a rampage starting with Babidi’s right-hand man Dabura. Dabura, who could see the bubble gum-looking monster was uncontrollable and attacked it hoping to protect his master from his own undoing. Buu unaffected by the demon king’s attack used his candy beam turning Dabura into a cookie and eating him. What a horrible fate for his foes.

5. Father-Son Kamehameha

Coming in at number 5 we have the Father-Son Kamehameha! During the Cell Saga, the monster Cell decided to hold a tournament to give the earth’s warriors one last chance to defend themselves before Cell destroyed it all. All of our heroes showed up but only Goku and Gohan faced off against him. Goku loses his fight then dies saving everyone when Gohan mistakingly lets Cell build-up for self-destruction. After Cell comes back due to regeneration Gohan ends up in a beam struggle with the seemingly unstoppable villain. Goku speaks to Gohan from otherworld cheering him on and with his dad backing him up, he destroys Cell for good.

4. Instant-Kamehameha

Coming in at number 4 we have the Instant-Kamehameha! This is in the destructive category for sure. This attack is one of my favorites for so many reasons. It’s one of the more clever tactics Goku has employed in his battles. In a fight with Cell during the Cell Games, Goku charged up a Kamehameha from the sky aiming down at Cell. He seemingly was going to risk destroying the earth by firing downward at the villain. He even had Cell himself convinced but right before the release of his attack, he teleported under Cell and blasted his entire top half clean off.

3. Spirit Sword

Coming in at number 3 we have the Spirit Sword! This attack sits in the unique category, The spirit sword is a fan favorite move from a fan-favorite character. During the seemingly unstoppable rampage of the monster Majin Buu, many things happened. He defeated all of the Z-warriors, killed almost everyone on the planet, ate entire cities of people, he even absorbed a lot of our heroes. In a desperate attempt to stop him Goku and Vegeta fused together into Vegito and became so strong that Buu no longer stood a chance. During their bout, Vegito whipped out this awesome sword made out of energy and proceeded to further humiliate the monster with it.

2. Final Flash

Coming in at number 2 we have the Final Flash! During the Cella Saga, we saw many crazy things. There were quite a few awesome transformations, battles, and plot lines that we got to see play out. One of these was Vegeta obtaining Super Saiyan 2 and owning Imperfect Cell in a completely one-sided fight. Vegeta falls prey to his trademark pride during this battle and allows Cell to gain his perfect form. To try and correct this mistake Vegeta charges up his most powerful blast challenging Cell to stand here and take it. Having Vegetas own pride cousin through his DNA Cell accepts. At the last second, he realizes his mistake. When the Final Flash hits Cell it almost completely obliterates him showing off this moves pure power.

1. Neo Tri-Beam

Coming in at number 1 we have the Neo-Tri Beam! This one sits in the destructive as well as the unique categories. Tien was a character that hadn’t held any importance since the Saiyan Saga. However, during the Cell Saga, he shows up to stop Imperfect Cell from gaining his perfect form by saving 18. Now Tien’s power level was nowhere near Cells but he had a move up his sleeve that allowed him to even the playing field a little. Using his own life force the Neo-Tri Beam amplifies his power 100x in his attack. He continues using this on the monster over and over again pushing him deeper and deeper underground until our hero passed out. This move allowed Tien to fight someone who was way out of his league and that’s why it’s my all-time favorite attack in DBZ.

What Are The Best Anime Like Durarara?

Durarara!! Is nothing short of chaotic. It has a huge cast, several small plots that later conjoin into one big story, angsty teens, violent and questionable adults, and even a Dullahan. While it seems overwhelming and all, Durarara!! is still one staple for almost any anime fan.

If you love character driven stories like Durarara!! then here are 10 anime titles that may just be what you are looking for.

10. Bungou Stray Dogs

After getting kicked out of the orphanage, Atsushi Nakajima finds himself in Yokohama with no roof over his head and no food. While debating if he should steal money, he spots a man drowning in the river and ends up rescuing him. Osamu Dazai, the man he rescued and his partner Doppo Kunikida ended up treating him to a meal. He finds out they belong to a detective agency made up of people with special abilities. They also tell him about an ongoing case and Dazai bribes him to help them. The case is only the beginning of Atsushi’s involvement in the Armed Detective Agency.

If you liked how the characters are developed in Durarara!!, Bungou Stray Dogs also has a large cast to keep your eyes on. Each cast member has their own unique backstory and are still coming into their own terms with past issues through the series. Each character like Durarara!! is given a chance in the spotlight. However, Bungou Stray Dogs lacks the messiness that Durarara!! has—which is not entirely a bad thing.

In this world there exist individuals called “Kings”—they are granted with supernatural powers and the ability to recruit others into their clans. One integral part of being a king is protecting the people under them. Yashiro Isana, an ordinary high school student is accused of murder by the HOMRA clan due to video evidence of an individual who looks like him murdering one of their clansmen. While running for his life he is rescued by Kuroh Yatogami. Now Yashiro has to prove that he is innocent to the different gangs in the city and Kuroh who also wishes to kill him.

The concept of several gangs running the city is both present in K and Durarara!!. you’ll see the factions in the limelight and the reason why each of their members are a part of the gang in K. While Durarara!! is more of a battle of wits and the fight scenes are usually skimmed over, K shows pretty good action scenes.

8. Death Note

Light Yagami, an ordinary student, stumbles upon a black notebook, the Death Note. He later discovers that the book is magic/cursed. If someone who owns the notebook writes a name on it, the person with the same name will die. Light slowly gets Intoxicated with this power and begins killing people who he deems unworthy to live.

Death Note and Durarara!! are two great examples with what will happen if someone loves power too much. Mikado and Light are both ordinary students who suddenly gain a huge amount of power—obviously too much for them to handle. Despite knowing that the power is dangerous they continue to hold onto it while keeping their identities a secret from their followers. Both series also have mythical creatures in play who act as an overseer to the events that are about to unfold in the series.

7. Blood Blocade Battlefront

Leonardo Watch obtains the “All-Seeing-Eyes-of-God'' at the expense of his sister’s eyesight. Hoping to restore her sight he travels to Hellsalem’s Lot—formerly known as New York City till monsters and humans started coexisting there. Due to some strange turn of events he joins Libra, a taskforce of humans with abilities that keep the order of the chaotic city.

Just like Durarara!! this anime is almost equally chaotic. Blood Blocade Battle Front also focuses on the individual lives of its cast. While leading more to the supernatural side of things, the anime also tells the story of the city itself and its inhabitants. If you also love how Durarara!! offsets their violence with humor, then this anime pretty much treats violence in the same manner.

6. Occultic; Nine

Occultic; Nine follows the stories of the “Choujou Kagaku KiriKiri Basara” blog, a blog that exists to disprove the existence of the supernatural. Yuuta Gamon is the main member who runs the blog. His blog gets himself involved in several strange cases in the city that may involve the supernatural. Something he didn’t mean to attract when he first started it.

Social Media plays a huge role in both shows. While not really meaning to bring people together Yuuta ends up with several friends who help him with the mysteries. For Durarara!! the “Dollars” originally just started as a chat group that started discussing weird happenings in the city. Goes to show that we should be careful of what we put out on the net.

5. Persona 5

Ren Amamiya ends up going under probation due to his violent actions towards a man who was harassing a woman. Falsely accused, he ends up staying with Sojiro Sakura at Café LeBlanc. As he starts his new life he ends up in trouble with some shadows and awakens his powers.

Moving to a big unknown city and getting involved with the town’s biggest mysteries and even messing with the police sounds like Durarara!!—well, it’s also Persona 5! While our main protagonist in Durarara!! plays a mix of good and evil—Joker is shown to be one of the good guys through and through. He just has to keep his identity under wraps.

4. Ikebukuro West Gate Park

The story follows Makoto Majima, an ordinary resident with no loyalties to any gangs in crime infested Ikebukuro. While he himself is not directly involved he does have friends whose work belong to the “underground” life of Ikebukuro, like his friend Takashi Ando, who is the leader of a gang called the G-Boys. Takashi would occasionally ask Makato to become some sort of mediator in several gang fights.

If you take away the supernatural elements of Durarara!! Then you’ll most likely end up with a similar anime to Ikebukuro West Gate Park. Both anime show how gang, crime and drug infested a metro city can be and how anyone, despite not meaning to be involved—can get themselves wrapped into the city’s own underground world. Ikebukuro seems like the center point of all sorts of trouble.

3. Hamatora

The series Is about a pair of detectives that call themselves “Hamatora” made of the members; Nice and Murasaki. As the series progresses, they notice that all their cases link up to a single serial killer who happens to be their friend: Art.

As much as Durarara!! is a slice-of-life we cannot deny that it is also a mystery and action anime. Hamatora is the same as it has several light hearted moments between the duo but gets serious as they grow closer to solving the mystery of Art. Like the characters in Durarara!! who each have their own agenda, the characters in Hamatora are also trying to figure out who exactly are their foes and allies.

2. Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens

In the underground world of Fukuoka Xianming Lin is asked to do an assassination job. However, before Lin could do the job his target commits suicide. Because Lin was unable to kill his target his company refused to pay him prompting Lin to take on another assassination request—his new target: Zenji Banba. Despite being his target, Lin offers Banba a partnership.

While not set in Ikebukuro, Fukuoka has its own underground world--- problems with gangs, politics, gangs and turf wars. While the show primarily focuses on our two main cast members, the other cast members also help move the show along like Durarara!! does. These two even have a light novel crossover that you can check out once you’ve completed both anime.

1. Baccano!

A series of seemingly unrelated events shown in episodes in different orders. Trouble in each era happens due to involvement of alchemy, mafia and other underground organizations in the search for power.

This is probably the closest thing to Durarara!! and some will even say it’s the better version of the anime. Not only does Baccano! happen in the same universe (albeit on a different timeline) as Durarara!!, it also shows a similar spiral type of storytelling where it seems each episode is unrelated with no path to the bigger picture of things. However, things will start to make sense the longer you watch. Involvement of the supernatural and gangs are also present in both shows.
