Hello everyone and welcome to the Black Desert Online game review, in which we will be looking at the game in an unbiased manner until we reach a fair and honest conclusion to answer the question: is it worth playing?

About Black Desert Online

The MMORPG genre has many great games that stand out for their unique features and specific mechanics that make them stand out among the competition, and when we talk about action combat it is impossible not to mention Black Desert Online.

Black Desert Online, or BDO for short, is a game developed by Pearl Abyss, which recently also became the publisher for their game, and is one of the main names in the MMORPG genre because of its incredibly fast paced action combat system, rivaled only by the likes of Vindictus and PSO2, and beautiful graphics that are still the best in the genre even almost a decade after its initial release in 2014.

Story

The story of BDO is a bit convoluted, and nothing to write home about really. You are the classic chosen one in a generic fantasy adventure, slowly recovering your memory and realizing your destiny as a hero. While this plot might be very tedious for most players, it isn’t terrible either, and interacting with the dark spirit in order to move the plot forward is always fun.

It isn’t obligatory to do the story quests in Black Desert Online, however it is the most efficient way to level up at least until level 50, where the “tutorial” phase of the game ends and the fun really begins.

Gameplay

Most people only remember BDO for its action combat and graphics, and these are both great aspects of the game that we are going to look at, however there is so much more to the gameplay loop of Black Desert Online that is often ignored in reviews. There is a huge variety of things to do in this game, from engaging into lifeskills that can make you rich such as fishing and cooking, to sailing through the vast oceans and hunting sea creatures, and even buying properties inside a city and managing your own workers.

The further you dig into the Black Desert rabbit hole, the more things to do you’ll discover, each made to complement one another and to fit into specific playstyles of different kinds of players, so this is truly a game for everyone. On top of all that, there are huge world bosses for PvE players to fight against and open world PvP for PvP players who wish to test themselves against one another.

It is also good to remember that the character creation in BDO is one of the best in the genre, with many sliders and customization options for you to choose from, including a gallery of characters previously made by other players.

Combat

Reverenced as the best action combat system in the MMORPG genre by many, Black Dessert truly feels dynamic, fast paced and unique when compared to any other MMORPG in this department. The skills here are done through a system of inputs and combos, similar to how fighting games work, where every combination of a direction and an input results in a different move, and different sequences of inputs also result in different abilities.

The game slowly introduces new skills as you level up, so you have time to practice and master all of your combos while playing the game. However, the combat of BDO isn’t perfect, and a big downside is that it feels a bit too much at times, with characters dashing all over the place with overwhelming special effects that make you feel like you’re trying to drive a car with no brakes. Combat also feels very easy in PvE, with your character being able to effortlessly destroy hordes of enemies that never pose much of a threat other than having bigger numbers. To sum it up: combat looks good but is more suited to people who like to turn their brains off and grind endless waves of enemies without much of a challenge.

When it comes to PvP, a lot of people enjoy it and for very good reasons, however it can feel very clunky at times due to the difficulty of properly synchronizing a large number of players that are dashing all around in an open world environment.

Quest/Mission System

There is nothing really innovative or remarkable when it comes to the questing in BDO. As previously mentioned, the main story is nothing to write home about, giving you a tour through the world and a very basic storyline to follow. The sidequests also don’t bring anything to the table in terms of lore or fun mechanics, being mostly repeatable fetch quests.

Black Desert Online is very much a sandbox where you make your own adventure and if you prefer streamlined games with quests that are well thought and carefully tailored to give you a cool experience then you might have to look somewhere else.

Graphics

Some things are simply facts and you can’t go against them, and the fact is that Black Desert Online has the best graphics in the MMORPG genre. Honestly it is not even close to any of the competitors, which is terrifying when you consider that this game is almost 10 years old now and still looks better when compared to recent releases like New World and Lost Ark.

Not only are the models, textures and lighting effects absolutely beautiful in BDO, but the physics are very well done. When you move, you really feel the weight of your character’s movement, and the same can be said when riding a mount. Characters will bump on each other, climb on ledges and try to keep their balance when at the edge of a cliff.

Developer

The developer Pearl Abyss is relatively new in the market and didn’t release any games prior to Black Desert Online. While the very high quality of BDO is something that should be taken in account, the monetization systems in the game are a bit shady and say a lot about Pearl Abyss as a company, with many claiming that the game is highly pay-to-win.

However you decide to look at it, Pearl Abyss has managed to maintain Black Desert Online as one of the most played MMORPGs for almost a decade and are currently working on two other promising projects: DokeV and Crimson Desert.

Price

Black Desert Online uses a free-to-play model in Korea, Japan and Russia, while in Taiwan, South East Asia, Europe, North America and South America the game uses a buy-to-play model. There are many different editions of the game that you can buy, each with their own advantages included such as quality of life items and cosmetics.

Prices of BDO vary a lot depending on your location, and the game is also on sale a lot of the time, so you can put it on your Steam wishlist and wait for the price to go down. If you get the game in a sale it is absolutely worth a try.

Pros:

A huge and active playerbase, which is very important for a game that has open world PvP;
Wide variety when it comes to gameplay features, including lifeskills, PvP, PvE, sailing, city management and much more;
Amazing graphics, animations and physics that are unparalleled in the MMORPG genre to this day;
Great character creation with many customization options;
A dynamic hack and slash combat system that makes you feel like an absolute badass;
Input combos are always very fun to learn and pull off in combat.

Cons:

Many pay-to-win elements due to shady monetization tactics applied by the devs;
PvE is way too easy and you rarely feel challenged when fighting monsters other than by the fact that their attributes might be too high;
The grind here is almost infinite, with a very punishing enhancement system that can and will break the gear that you’ve worked so hard to get;
Main story and quests in general are really forgettable and boring;
PvP feels very clunky due to the difficulty of synchronizing highly mobile characters in an open world environment.

Musa is a very interesting class in the Black Desert Online. The class bears the identity of Pearl Abyss as a company that develops and owns BDO. Musa means "warrior" in Korea, and Pearl Abyss is a Korean company. Musa's character design is very oriental, and weapon choice also strikes similarities with its counterpart. Drakania became even more popular when Pearl Abyss released a trailer video for its Awakening. The adventurers go ape as soon as they see clips from the video that Awakening Drakania summons a Dragon head to spit AOE fire on its foes and can soar like a freaking dragon herself. This sparks massive curiosity with Drakania, both veteran players and even non-players, to play Drakania for the first time in Black Desert Online.

Making a rotation for this map is quite easy. Just pick 3 nearby spots, the ones with pillars and mobs. Just 3 spots are enough as they respawn pretty quickly, and one spot is quite hard to take down as well.
The mobs here don’t damage you that much, given that you passed the AP recommendation and have a decent DP. As long as you do not AFK here, you’ll be fine.

7. Murrowak’s Labyrinth

Start at: 0:05

Digging into our number 7 spot. The Murrowak's Labyrinth is a mini-game like dungeon instance where you will enter along with 5 other players to run the entire instance. The zone will step up a bit on your Caphras Stone search as it does provide a higher drop rate than the previously mentioned. A single instance would run for about an hour and a half, sometimes less, depending on the players you joined with and how fast they could clear the mini and the elite mobs. It's definitely fun and enjoyable to play, with a lot of notable drops on the side and a bit higher drop rate for Caphras Stones.

How it works

This is a 6-man instance dungeon zone.
You kill all the mini mobs and the elite mobs along the way. The path is straightforward and there’s nothing complicated about the mechanics.
Once you're done killing all the normal mobs, the boss will spawn and kill it.
The best option you have after killing the boss is to change servers and, if you are lucky, you might end up joining a team that is currently doing the instance and have you on the same progress as with them. The boss will spawn faster for you because it is already half finished, or at least some of the parts are completed.

6. Tunkuta

Start at: 0:55

I'm pretty sure you've already heard a lot about Tunkuta or Turo's spot with my other guides. It is because the zone really has a lot to offer to new and veteran players, and a good place to farm Caphras Stone is also one. Especially if you run this zone with an Agris and any loot scroll, you'll be filling up your inventory with a lot of Caphras Stone in no time. If you are RNG carried during your grind session, you might end up with a few Turo's Belts or even a rare drop of Flame of Despair.

Why Tunkuta is a Great Farming Spot

42 Caphras Stones average per hour.
Flame of Despair drops here. Crafting material for the Fallen God’s Armor. It has a value of 1.7 billion silvers per piece.
Turo’s Belt drops here as well.

How it works

You should form a party of 2 members here, as it is the ideal way of running this spot.
There are five ideal ways to grind this spot. Regardless of what kind of rotation you use, you will pretty much end up with the same trash loot rate as the other rotations available.
Actually, this is a very straightforward map with rotations you can make on the fly as soon as you arrive in Tunkuta. There are no complicated mechanics, and you can even go the old way of just killing everything that mobs. Essentially, your aim is to be mobile as much as possible and kill as many as possible.

5. Manshaum Forest

Start at: 0:08

At number 5, is the Manshaum Forest. The Caphras Stone drop rate may seem the same as with the Tunkuta, but this zone is a solo grind spot. You do not need to invite someone to join you for a grind, and it will still provide you with the same benefits in terms of Caphras Stones while doing it solo. You can also get the chance to get the material needed for the Odore's Spirit Essence, or more commonly known as the infinite MP potions, in case you still don't own one.

How it works

The ideal start for rotation in this zone is by heading on the north side of the node manager and slowly moving in a direction going southward of the area.
As you head south, kill as many mobs as you can from one side.
Make a turn back to the north from the zone's border edge and kill the other side of your previous route.
You will eventually end up at the exact same location where you started. It is best if you have placed your tent and parked your mount in that location for an easy rinse and repeat cycle of the rotation.

4. Thornwood Forest

Start at: 3:48

Stepping it up a bit in your search for a better Caphras Stone drop rate is the Thornwood Forest at number 4. Not only is this zone good for XP farming, but due to the recent changes made by Pear Abyss to the entire zone's loot rate, this is now a very significant place to farm Caphras Stones in Black Desert Online's up-to-date meta. The zone doesn't require you to have massive gears for you to farm here efficiently, making mid-game progress easier for most of the players.

Ominous Ring and Ah’krad drop here at a pretty decent rate.

How it works

There are currently five effective grinding routes for this zone, named the river route, the forest route, the bridge route, the castle entrance route, and the courtyard route.
The wide range of options on how to do grinding on this map only shows that, regardless of whether some players contest you with farming, you can easily pick another route that is not contested.
It's pretty much straightforward: kill everything you see on your path and repeat from the starting point of your route.
Always keep an eye out for the black bottle for additional XP gains as it spawns mobs and a boss.

3. Traitor’s Graveyard

Start at: 0:26

Coming up next is the Traitor's Graveyard, or Betrayer's Cemetery, or whatever you want to call it. It does step up to the game of farming Caphras Stones and is a very good place to consider, especially right now. There are only a few players discovering that the Caphras Stone drop rate here is pretty massive despite its low AP recommendation, and the zone is actually meant for new players who have just started playing BDO. It doesn't have any notable item drops or trash loot for silver average because the highest drop rate here is actually Caphras Stone.

Why Traitor’s Graveyard is a Great Farming Spot

47 Caphras Stones average per hour.
Witch’s Earring drops here, in case you care.
Very low AP recommendation with very easy rotation cycles.

How it works

You only need to choose 2 out of 5 tombstones located in the area to have a rotation.
Once you attack the tombstone, your next following attacks will no longer damage the tombstone. It will then attract mobs in the area or summon more mobs.
Your objective is to kill the mobs that will now attack and damage the tombstone.
Kill the mobs as fast as you can and prevent them from destroying the tombstone entirely to make your grinding very efficient in terms of kill counts.

2. Gyfin Rhasia Underground

Start at:0:14

The Gyfin Rhasia Underground, in the runner-up spot, will definitely up the ante for your Caphras Stone farming. Farming for Caphras Stone in this zone is fairly simple if you have the recommended AP to run the zone, especially if you run it with Agris and a loot scroll. You might find the complicated mechanics of this zone difficult and maybe fend you away from grinding on this spot, but once you see how much Caphras Stone you can get per hour, it will pull you in like a strong magnet for sure.

Best place to obtain Tungrad Belt and Tungrad Necklace.
498,000,000 silver average per hour.

How it works

There are more than 10 towers in the zone, and all you have to do first is find 2 of them, which are near each other. Basically, the choice will vary based on the player’s preference. As long as you can secure 2 towers that are near and comfortable for you to go back and forth as your grinding rotations, that will be great.
You need to remember this always, as this mechanic is vital for your efficient XP grinding. There will be 3 sets of elites per tower spot, not only categorized by their appearance and abilities but also categorized by color coding that represents the buffs you will get from them.
Blue - Gyfin Rhasia Guard the one with shield and sword [Resolve]
Purple - Gyfin Rhasia Flamen the slender magic caster [Denial]
Red - Gyfin Rhasia Crusher the big guy with a mace [Anger]
These buffs will give you some sort of color-coded buff with which you will gain a damage boost against the elite of matching color with the buff that you have. Simply put, the order is Blue > Purple > Red > Blue. For example, if you kill the Blue Elite-Gyfin Rhasia Guard, this will then give you the purple-colored buffs(remember the order?) which will grant you a damage boost against denial monsters, and that includes the Gyfin Rhasia Flamen, the purple elite. In short, your first elite kill will be harder since you don’t have any damage boost buffs, so I suggest killing first which of those 3 elites you are most comfortable killing without buffs, and then working your way up with the color matching buffs to gain the advantage of these damage boosts. Or have it in the standard order: kill the guard first, then the flamen, and last the crusher.
To maximize your XP gains, keep an eye out for the despair mobs. These mobs respawn in exactly the same locations within any tower spot. Killing them will benefit your XP gains as it will let the tower spawn more mobs for 8 minutes. The spawn rate of these despair mobs depends on how fast you kill those 3 elite mobs.
Another interesting mechanic of this zone is the spawning of "The Butcher" or Butcher of Gyfin Rhasia, which most players say its spawn rate or appearance is heavily influenced by your current drop rate buffs. When the butcher spawns, all three groups of the elite mobs of the tower will freeze. They won’t attack and will not move until the butcher is slain. Once you are finished, all three elite mobs will wake up and attack you instantly, and you will get the butcher buff (yellow color-coded), which will make the other 3 color-coded elites very squishy with your buffs. Despite the butcher’s buffs being the strongest amongst buffs you may get while grinding, not paying attention right after the butcher was killed proves to be very fatal.
The last mechanic of this zone you should know about is the enraged mode of the 3 elite mob groups. It does rarely happen in grinding sessions, but when it does, you will probably be dying or plain dead as the 3 elite mob groups will instantaneously attack you, even without the butcher being slain.

1. Olun’s Valley

Start at: 5:35

Finally, the spot that will give you the most Caphras Stones for your grinding is Olun's Valley. The best and technically proven and tested spot for Caphras Stone farming. Although you cannot run this solo since it is a party zone, but hey, wouldn't it be less boring if you grinded this place along with your friends in BDO and simply enjoyed a Caphras Stone grinding spree for long sessions? Additionally, grinding this location may provide you with the opportunity to craft La'Orzeca armor, as the crafting material for that item frequently drops here. Run this zone along with your Agris and loot scrolls and see your inventory get filled by Caphras Stone in no time.

Why Olun’s Valley is a Great Farming Spot

70 Caphras Stones average per hour.
La’Orzeca armor’s craft material drops here.
390,000,000 silver average per hour.
This is one of the most efficient zones to use your Agris.

How it works

This is a party zone. Please keep that in mind.
Make sure that you will invite party members or join a party that at least knows how to pre-pull in this area. Once you get used to the area, pre-pulling or even making a double pull will be easier for you.
Having a Shai class in your party is a must-have. This is not optional and not negotiable. Trust me, it will be much easier with a Shai alongside your grind.
It would be very advisable to just focus on the big golem and skip those small golems, as those small mobs do not have any significant loot to drop. So don't waste too much time. Just burst the big golem to death and move on to the next one.

In this entry, we are going to tackle the top 10 best grind spots for 240 AP in Black Desert Online's current progression line. This is a part 2-series continuation of my previous entry [Top 10] BDO Best Grind Spots For 200 AP. Be sure to check that out first for a better idea and a much wider scope of what we will talk about on this list. Some entries here are re-appearances from said part 1-series as they are still best amongst other zones for the 240 AP bracket. Without further ado, let's dive into this in-depth guide.

10. Gahaz Bandit’s Lair

Start at: 0:06

Let's start with the gahaz. Gahaz Bandit is also great for players in the 240 AP range because of the redemption the zone gets from recent patch adjustments made in this area. Trash loot prices were significantly increased, making its entry once again to this list for the 240 AP bracket. I will not exaggerate this much further as some of you might already have read about this in my part 1 guide for the 200 AP. Let's move on to the next one.

Why Gahaz Bandit’s Lair is a Great Farming Spot
Due to recent game changes, trash loots now provide very competitive silver gains.
It is not a hotly contested area.
Good drop rates for Caphras Stone and decent drop rates for Scrolls.

How it works

Recommended AP: 140. The area has 2 different rotations.
Main: This will start at the entrance and make a path going to the east side and circling back to the entrance. This route has a lot of elite mobs but lower mob density.
Cliff: This will start at the cliff found on the west side of the main entrance, where a path will guide you, making a straightforward circular path all the way back to where you started. This route has high mob density but fewer elite mobs.
Either route you choose, both basically follow a straight path, and grinding rotations is not confusing at all. It is also easier to understand once you reach the spot or if you have already been here before.

9. Crescent Shrine

Start at: 0:05

Here's another re-entry at number 9, the Crescent Shrine. This area really serves a lot of purposes, especially for low-to mid-range AP players. From XP to skill points to silver, you name it. It's no surprise that you'll continue to see this zone as a viable option for grinding for whatever benefit comes to mind. You simply won't grow tired of it. Well, unless you are packing some serious endgame gear, then that would be a different kind of story.

Why Crescent Shrine is a Great Farming Spot

Fair drop rates for Scroll, Artifacts, and Caphras Stone.

How it works

Go to Sand Grain Bazaar and then travel on the lower right, heading to the Crescent Shrine spot.
Please remember to bring Purified Water to avoid dying from the desert debuffs.
Straightforward rotations. Just follow the valley’s pathway and kill everything while making your way straight to the end.

8. Tooth Fairy Forest

Start at: 0:27

In number 8, we have the Tooth Fairy Forest in the Forest Ronaros. This is one of the spots you should be grinding once you reach 240 AP for you to start grinding for the Ornette's Spirit Essence or the so-called Infinite HP Potion. One of its key ingredients can be found here by grinding, and it is a treasure that is unarguably vital for your endgame adventure in BDO. Be sure to grind here as soon as you can.

Ron’s Tintinnabulum drops here. A key ingredient for making the Unlimited HP Potion.
Surprisingly have a fair rate for Caphras Stone drop.

How it works

Go to the south-central area of the Forest of Ronaros. It is the most accessible part of the Tooth Fairy Forest Entrance Area.
Once you are there, you can easily make a rotation by following the pathway marked on the map. You can easily distinguish the pathway amongst the grassy fields.
Doing so will allow you to make a route with a substantial number of mobs to kill along your path.
Just be mindful that mobs spawn here pretty quickly and try not to aggro most of them or else you will end up dying fast. Especially when you are near the Ronaros Mirror.

7. Sherekhan (Day)

Start at: 0:46

The Sherekhan Necropolis is another zone that is ideal for grinding as soon as possible for 240 AP players to craft their unlimited HP pots. Especially during the day, because you will have a better chance of obtaining the Sherekhan's Panacea during this time. This zone also drops magic crystals and some Caphras Stone. If you are looking for a map to progress your adventure in BDO from early to midgame, this zone is good for you to try.

There is a fair drop rate for Caphras Stone and Orkinrad’s Belt drops here too.

How it works

Start at the southeast of the main node, or a few distances away from the Sherekhan’s Necropolis icon on your world map.
Kill every mob you can see while heading towards the north side or at the upper right side of the Sherekhan’s Necropolis icon.
Once you are there and still killing mobs, you can now head toward the main node’s direction.
You now have the option to either retrace your path or start all over again from the southeast of the main node.
Please do note that this is a Day Time Sherekhan.

6. Altar Imp Habitat

Start at: 1:00

Next, at the number 6 spot, is the Altar Imp Habitat. The place drops a lot of Shard of the Tearful Night in case you are looking for some "cup crafting." This is also the first party spot zone for this list. Some might say 240 AP might not be enough to grind here, but I already tested it myself. It is doable as long as you are running a Kutum. Your choice of party member to accompany you on your grind session will also be important, as it will be a make or break for the session.

Why Altar Imp Habitat is a Great Farming Spot

It has interesting mechanics and is a party spot for 2.

How it works

What you need to do first is find a violent mob within the area.
Hit it a few times, preferably once only, and then slowly make your way to the nearest flag you can see. Please be mindful of your distance from the violent mob you are luring, as you cannot use your movement skills here or else the violent mob will stop following you and return to its original place. You will lose a lot of time if this happens.
Once the violent mob is near the flag, you can now kill it, and it will spawn a huge number of mobs.
There is a chance that a Bheg will appear on your spot.

5. Biraghi Den

Start at: 0:17

Biraghi Den is one good spot to consider once you reach 240 AP simply because it has been improved due to the massive Elvia Rework done in the recent patches in Black Desert Online. Some might still say that this is the worst of the seven Elvia maps, but I beg to differ, as it is very grindable for 240 AP without any hassle at all. Is it best? No. Is it good? Yes. That's the straight answer I could give based on my personal trial and error. It is not the best spot for 240 AP, but it is now better compared to its former state.

Why Biraghi Den is a Great Farming Spot

A lot of notable drops here. Shard of the Drained Night, Moon’s Split Nail, and Narc’s Lightning.
One of the zones that benefitted a lot from the Elvia Rework in BDO.

How it works

Start at the entrance with the wood fence gate and work your way straight. Just about it.
The place is actually just a straight path, mostly consisting of narrow spots.
When farming in this zone, there is no pulling or luring required since aggro mobs will tend to rush toward you.
Just be mindful and kill ranged mobs first when clearing groups, as melee mobs will surely follow you around and those ranged mobs won’t. This method will make your clearing faster.
You also have the option to make a longer route for you to have a back-to-back route wherein you can kill from the entrance to inside and vice versa.

4. Mirumok Ruins

Start at: 0:33

Moving on to a better note, let's talk about Mirumok Ruins. The place will offer you better reasons to grind here at 240 AP since the drop rate here on the Valtarra Eclipsed Belt is some kind of a decent rate. That will serve as your best reason why you should be grinding here in the first place with your given AP range. The belt is a very good investment for endgame builds, so farming here for quite some time will prove your grind worthwhile in the long run. Aside from that, the Caphras Stone drop rate here is not bad at all.

Why Mirumok Ruins is a Great Farming Spot

14.5% drop rate for Caphras Stone.

How it works

Start your rotation by going to the safe spot at the entrance to the Mirumok Ruins.
Once you have parked your mount, you can go to the mob area located on the far right of the map.
You can aggro mobs by simply approaching them. Wait for at least 12 seconds, and don’t attack the elite mob either. Wait for the first wave of mobs to appear before starting to kill them.
Each spot will spawn a total of 36 mobs equally divided into six waves.
Unkilled mobs will disappear 2 minutes after they spawn.

3. Manshaum Forest

Start at: 0:08

Due to the massive rework done by Pearl Abyss on most Elvia maps, Manshaum Forest is now considered a Caphras Stone zone, and yes, you can totally agree with that, and me as well. This could serve as a good income source for 240 AP players who want to progress further in their gear enhancements while gaining some goodies along the way. This is highly recommended and definitely worth checking out.

A fair amount of Caphras Stone can be obtained per hour of grind.

How it works

The ideal start for rotation in this zone is by heading on the north side of the node manager and slowly moving in a direction going southward of the area.

But if you really want to invest hard in the Centaurus Belt for your endgame build, then seek no further and grind here to your heart's content.

How it works

Just like any other straightforward spot, this zone features no complicated mechanics whatsoever.
Head to the area location and kill as many mobs as you can in a fast phase. With that, you will be efficiently grinding this zone.

1. Sherekhan (night)

Start at: 7:11

And finally, at our number one spot, the very best spot to grind at 240 AP is the Sherekhan Necropolis during the night time. This is also the best place to spend your Agris points efficiently, which gives you a lot more reason to consider picking this place for your next long grinding session at 240 AP. The mechanics here are plain, simple, and easy to understand. Although you can only grind here at a specific time, it is still the best of all the zones available for 240 AP in terms of benefits and efficiency. Be sure to check this out, and I am sure that you will learn to love this zone as well.

Why Sherekhan (night) is a Great Farming Spot

During the night time, head to those stone towers in the area named Belcadas’s Tomb. Interact with it by pressing the "R" key or by clicking it. Each interaction costs 10 stamina.

Rinse and repeat.

This place is surely abandoned nowadays, so feel free to use it as your own zone.

How it works

There is no right or wrong way to grind on this spot.
By now, this is unquestionably an area where you will not be contested for the entire area.
Kill as many mobs to your heart's content and make your way towards any direction you deem fit.

8. Blood Wolf Settlement

Farming at the Blood Wolf settlement can be an easy win for low AP players. Not only is it that the place drops interesting items like the Eye of the Ruins Ring, but also you will have a chance to get one of the three main grindable ingredients in making the Ornette's Spirit Essence, a.k.a. the infinite HP pots. It also has a good trash for silver average rate that would give you enough reason to grind here.

How it works

190 AP is recommended.
It can be farmed in any way you want to do your rotation.
Kill everything that moves. You will be one-shotting them anyway if you have more than 200 AP, which is very easy to achieve nowadays.
There's nothing complicated about this map if you choose to farm SP here.

7. Fadus Habitat

Start at: 1:30

Next, we have the good ol' Fadus Habitat. Despite the fact that this spot doesn't really give you much in terms of trash per silver benefits, it does come with alternative benefits in comparison to that. As a player with low AP, you pretty much just started with the game, and this spot will help you greatly with your gear progression due to the fact that it drops a decent number of Black Stones that can be used to enhance your gear to increase your AP and DP. It is also a good spot if you are looking for a way to spend your Agris efficiently, even at a lower AP.

One of the best spot to burn Agris efficiently.
Decent drop of Black Stones for your gear progression.
Decent drop rate for Caphras Stone as well.

You can start grinding Fadus at the Loopy Tree Forest. Don’t forget to take the quests first for more benefits.
This is considered one of the forgotten spots but still farmable and efficient for your Agris, and with that being said, you can pretty much kill on a random rotation here as most of the time you will be alone grinding in this zone.
Keep moving and kill as many enemies as you can in a short period of time. That’s the drill, basically. You will be one-shotting them anyway.

6. Tshira Ruins

Tshira Ruins is one of the most populated zones in terms of mob counts. It is also viable to grind because one of the main ingredients for the unlimited MP pots is obtainable here. In the past, the place was heavily contested for spots due to the obtainability of one main ingredient for the infinite MP potions. Nowadays, that is no longer the case as most of the players in BDO’s current meta already have the said infinite potion. In any case that you’ll find players still grinding for the said rate item, it is highly unlikely they will bother your grinding as the zone offers too many mobs for too few players to contest with.

Markthanan’s Gland drops here. A rare item needed for the Infinite MP potion.
Eye of the Ruins Ring drops here.
Good Caphras Stone drop rate.

How it works

Rotations here are not as important as in other places.
The mobs here are so dense that you can just kill everything in your wake.
You may find other players in this area, but mostly they are just doing guild quests and will not bother your grinding at all.
The place has plenty of mobs to kill. Regardless of which way you go or how you tackle your grinding approach, here it won’t matter as you will end up killing a lot of mobs per minute in your grinding session.

5. Cadry Ruins

Coming in hot on number 5 is the Cadry Ruins. The zone has plenty to offer. From good trash loot to silver gains, nice accessory drops, decent caphras stones, and also skill points. Skill points are also important, along with your gear progression. And farming in Cadry Ruins while you are still on 200 AP average, it's like you are hitting a lot of birds with one stone. It is highly recommended to farm on this map as early as you can, as it will provide you more with your time and help you progress faster in the game.

How it works

I highly suggest you roam around the map first to kill the 7 elite mobs and then proceed to kill the rest of the normal mobs. You will gain a lot of SP and also trash for silver by doing this method. Hitting two birds with one stone.
Or you can kill only the normal mobs if you want more SP and don’t care about trash loot.
Just like the other straightforward spots mentioned, this is just the same. Start at one end and then U-turn at the next end of the path.

4. Polly’s Forest

I mentioned earlier that skill points are important along with your gear progression, and in terms of skill point gains, Polly's Forest simply is the King for SP grinding. This is actually a close-to-perfect spot for 200 AP players because mobs here are dense yet very easy to kill. The trash loot prices for this zone have also been updated recently, giving you more reasons why you should be grinding here. The only reason why this is not at the top of most of our lists right now is because this is a highly contested area. Either you will choose to farm at Cadry instead, or consider staying tuned in until we unveil the other three zones on this list.

Why Polly’s Forest is a Great Farming Spot

Updated trash loot prices so that will give you more silver gain per hour.
Easy to kill mobs and good Caphras Stone drop rates.
Top 1 map for Skill points gain.

How it works

You can start at any point on the outer radius of this map.
Then create a zig-zag killing route.
Kill three to four cluster mobs, then move to the opposite side, kill three to four cluster mobs, and so on and so forth.
Nothing is complicated on this map, and mob density is very high. It is a no-brainer grinding spot.

3. Gahaz Bandit’s Lair

Next on this list is Gahaz Bandit's Lair. It has been a love-hate relationship between this zone and the long-time players of BDO. This was a very popular and heavily contested zone for farming XP, silver, and skill points back when it was released. Then time passed and new zones were released; this zone became forgotten. Everyone abandoned this zone entirely for grinding, while some even hated it for being useless. Until recent changes happened. Trash loot prices were updated by Pearl Abyss, and players started to love this place again. So, if you're looking for some beneficial grinding even at a 200 AP range, this is a great place to grind as the game devs have restored its glory.

Why Gahaz Bandit’s Lair is a Great Farming Spot

Due to recent game changes, trash loots now provide very competitive silver gains.
It is not a hotly contested area.
Good drop rates for Caphras Stone and decent drop rates for Scrolls.

How it works

Recommended AP: 140. The area has 2 different rotations.
Main: This will start at the entrance and make a path going to the east side and circling back to the entrance. This route has a lot of elite mobs but lower mob density.
Cliff: This will start at the cliff found on the west side of the main entrance, where a path will guide you, making a straightforward circular path all the way back to where you started. This route has high mob density but fewer elite mobs.
Either route you choose, both basically follow a straight path, and grinding rotations is not confusing at all. It is also easier to understand once you reach the spot or if you have already been here before.

2. Crescent Shrine

Start at: 0:05

In the number 2 spot is the Crescent Shrine. It is not only good because it drops an accessory with a good stat, the Ring of Crescent Guardian, but it is also known for being good for skill point farming and efficient Agris points spending. It does have a high average per hour in terms of trash loot per silver, but the other good part about this zone is that it is not hard to grind here. There are no complicated mechanics or rotations, just a pure chill grinding session with high benefits, even at your 200 AP!

How it works

There is no way you should be missing out on grinding in Centaurus Herd, so be sure to grind here as fast as possible and for as long as you can. It would not only definitely help you progress in the game, but who knows? It could also be your favorite mid-to-endgame grinding zone.

10. Naga Marsh

Let’s kick off this list by starting at number 10, the Naga Marsh. This map never lost fame over the course of the game. Players had a love-hate relationship with this map zone due to the inconsistency of the mob spawns of the Naga Commanders. But due to the rework done on this map, Naga Commanders will now consistently spawn normal mobs upon reaching a certain HP level, making your grind here worthwhile. With its improvement, you may notice some adventurers farming on this map zone again, whether for XP, skill points, or occasionally a specific loot.

Why Naga Marsh is a Great Farming Spot

With the map’s rework, Naga Commanders now spawn 9 mobs each, consistently adding more SP gain for your grind. Surely you will get a 30-kill count per spot.
Spot-choosing on this map is straightforward and easy.
Not a heavily contested area.

How it Works:

260-280 AP recommendation for this area.
Go to Naga Marsh and keep an eye out for poisonous swamp plants, a.k.a."Stinky Flower".
These poisonous swamp plants will serve as your guide for spot choosing. These plants are always surrounded by three naga commanders that will eventually spawn another 27 mobs for you to kill when their corresponding HP falls to 90% or below.

9. Pila Ku Jail

At number 9, Pila Ku Jail. Apart from the benefits, you can get on this map, this is one of the best places to grind your skill points. Although you may see a few adventurers grinding for this spot, it is because of the Archeologist map pieces that drop here, which, of course, can serve as a bonus if you grind your skill points here also. During your grinding session, you may come across some Sicil's accessories that will make your SP grinding worthwhile. This is a good SP grinding spot in my opinion, especially if you are into getting those specific loots that I have mentioned.

Why Pila Ku Jail is a Great Farming Spot

With an AP of 255 and above, you will basically just be one-shotting every mob here consistently.
This is a medium-contested area. If you love PvP or the good ol’ fashion of "duel for spot", then this map is definitely for you.
Please keep in mind that Archeologist Map parts can be found here if you're looking for extra benefits in your SP grinding.

How it Works:

You can start at either entrance of the Pila Ku Jail. There are only two entrances to this area, so don’t get confused.
The goal here is to kill as many mobs as possible along the way.
Make a U-turn from the entrance opposite to where you started.
Or, you may opt to start from the exact entrance you started from to have a fresh spawn of each mob spot you just killed.

8. Blood Wolf Settlement

Blood Wolf Settlement Farming Guide

A very interesting and worthwhile note is the Blood Wolf Settlement zone. Not only is it good for skill points farming, but this map is also essential if you want to make the unlimited HP potion, which is a vital item to fully maximize your BDO endgame experience. The large number of mobs here is where you could possibly loot the "Ash Halfmoon Kagtunak", one of the three grindable materials used for making the unlimited HP pots. I must suggest that you grind skill points here until you get that unli HP pots material and then move on to a better spot on this list for grinding skill points.

Why Blood Wolf Settlement is a Great Farming Spot

You'll need less than 200 AP here. It is very good for farming SP here in the early game.
Despite being a low AP zone, this map is lowly contested for spots. I tested it myself just recently, and I haven’t seen anyone contesting for this spot for my 5 whole hours of grinding.
The mob supply is almost endless on this map.
This is definitely designed for early-game skill points farming, so please do not expect good loot here.

How it Works:

190 AP is recommended.
It can be farmed in any way you want to do your rotation.
Kill everything that moves. You will be one-shotting them anyway if you have more than 200 AP, which is very easy to achieve nowadays.
There's nothing complicated about this map if you choose to farm SP here.

7. Bashim Base

Bashim Base Farming Guide

At number 7, we have the Bashim Base. There isn't much to say about this map zone other than it's good for skill point farming, so you can rest assured that you will never be contested for this spot if you choose to grind SP in this area. You can grind this very early in the game and it is the suggested way to do so as you will gain better XP as well at that point rather than doing SP grinding here for later.

Why Bashim Base is a Great Farming Spot

This is one of the very low AP recommendations, with no special or complicated gears or skill point grinding requirements.
You can run most of your Alts here, if not all, with the 100 AP recommendation.
Trash loot’s price has been increased due to the recent patch.

How it Works:

It is advisable to use a high-mobility class for SP grinding here.
Go to Pujiya Canyon. From there, you can start killing clusters of mobs all the way through Bashim Base and then circle back to Pujiya Canyon for a rinse-and-repeat process.
You may opt to clear bashim mobs on the edge of Waragon Nest for extra kills.

6. Fogan Marsh

We have Fogan Marsh as our number 6. This map drops Elvian weapons, which will help you grind much faster even if you fall a bit short on the map’s AP recommendation. There is also a boss spawn event in this area that is worth checking out. A lot of aggro monsters with a large mob density should be expected in this area, so no more pull and lure kind of thing here. Black magic crystals often drop here as well.

Why Fogan Marsh is a Great Farming Spot

Elvian Weapon drops here. Making your grind faster and more efficient when it comes to SP gain.
Mobs in this area are mostly aggressive, which means they will come to you often rather than the other way around.
The map is very wide with a decent mob count. You can still grind skill points here even if there are other adventurers farming at the same time as you.

How it Works:

You can begin in Glish and then proceed to Swamp Naga Habitat. 270 is the recommended AP.
If you are planning to make this a hardcore SP grind, start from Glish, heading towards the first large pool of water on the left. Kill everything there and make a path going to Southern Cienaga as you kill every mob on your way. Once you are in Southern Cienaga, continue the grind all the way up to Northern Cienaga by following the swamp.
There are two options for rinse and repeat here. You can either make a U-turn from Northern Cienaga to Southern Cienaga and finish on Glish, or return to Glish to sell the trash loot you obtained after reaching Northern Cienaga, then continue the straight route from Glish to Southern and Northern Cienaga.

5. Crescent Shrine

Crescent Shrine Farming Guide

Number 5, the Crescent Shrine, home for that Ring of Crescent Guardian, which sells for a decent amount of silver, so please take note of that. It is decent for skill point farming due to its mob density and not-so-complicated grinding rotations, but just do not forget to bring yourself some Purified Water if you grind SP here as you might die from the desert debuffs.

If you are below 200 AP, farming SP here is very efficient as you will gain silver and, if lucky, crescent rings and artifacts.
Decent mob density plus a literal "straightforward" path on your rotations.

This map is not only good for Agris burning, especially when combined with a loot scroll, but it is also good for SP. This means you can get a lot out of this map. It has a low AP recommendation, making the grind in this zone faster. Basically speaking, it is a killing-streak grind where you will be one-shotting most of the mobs, and when it comes to mobs, Cadry Ruins has plenty of them for you to kill and grind with. Ring of Cadry Guardian also drops here! Keep that in mind!

It has a low AP recommendation of 140 AP.
You can hit this spot with a blue loot scroll + Agris if you are going to grind SP here. In this way, you will gain a lot of trash for silver at the same time.
It is not difficult to run; there are a lot of mobs everywhere along the way, and this map spawns violent mobs that are not hard to kill.

How it Works:

Coming in at number 3, the ever-popular Star’s End. If you are looking for an easy grind for SP, XP, and loot, then look no further. Well, I do only refer to the word "easy" for the grinding process as you will just stay in one spot and clear waves, then that’s pretty much it. There's no need to create paths for rotations and the like unless you want to move from one tower to another. But in terms of preparation, farming at Star’s End isn’t an easy feat as you will be needing a decent DP, or else you will just find yourself constantly dying here. It is still one of the best spots worth checking out in terms of SP grinding, with big XP and loot bonuses on top of that.

Why Star’s End is a Great Farming Spot

One of those maps in the game that is very convenient to grind to. Basically, you just stand in one spot and kill.
You can gain a lot on this map not only for Skill Points but for XP and trash loots as well.
All you need is decent gear and that’s it. No complicated mechanics or confusing routes.

How it Works:

Find a tower spot suitable for you. The tower on the ruins, the one with the ruin staircase landmark, is highly contested. Feel free to swap channels if you really want to farm that specific spot.
Monster spawns will start as soon as you start attacking the tower until the tower is destroyed.
Clear the waves. When the tower stops spawning waves, you have two options: either wait on the same spot and manage your inventory first (highly recommended), or move to the next tower nearby to begin wave killings as soon as possible.
Having a decent DP will make your Star End farming easier.

2. Roud Sulfur Mine

Our runner-up for this list is the Roud Sulfur Mine. It is technically made for faster SP farming and is very terrible in terms of loot. That is the main reason why this zone is empty most of the time, and no one will disturb your farming here. Even though you find someone farming here at the same time as you, the map is too big and you can still farm SP faster than the other maps mentioned. If you are just aiming to increase your skill points faster, then this is definitely the spot for you. Adventurers often land on Roud Sulfur Mine to grind skill points if the best spot for grinding SP is already overcrowded by other players. This is by far one of the best for skill point farming. Just do not expect any other benefits aside from that.

Why Roud Sulfur Mine is a Great Farming Spot

It is an empty farming zone most of the time, meaning you will not be disturbed by other players if you choose to farm skill points here.
These are quite decent drops, as I might say, based on my own experience farming on this map. You can actually make some silver here, but don’t expect too much. Just think of it as a bonus to your SP grinding.
Plenty of mobs. Each cluster of mobs has a very good population count.

How it Works:

It is located on the north side of Valencia City. Recommended AP: 210.
You can grind this spot in any way that you want since it is not contested most of the time, if not every single time.
Kill every mob you see in your chosen phase, pleasure, and rotation. There is no right or wrong way of grinding this spot.

1. Polly’s Forest

Finally, in our number one spot, the King of SP gain, Polly’s Forest. This place is really hot right now. As in, literally! I tested it myself recently, and boy, it is very crowded with adventurers. Polly’s Forest is always good for skill point grinding, but the map’s recent rework has made it totally stand out nowadays. The trash loot price on this map has increased on a massive scale. This makes it a good spot for both skill point grinding and trash-for-silver farming. It may be hard to spot this map undisturbed due to the fact that a lot of players will be farming this map, but that only means that this map is the top spot for SP with huge bonuses along the side. This map is definitely worth checking out, and you are very lucky if you can grind this spot undisturbed for a long period of time.

Why Polly’s Forest is a Great Farming Spot

This map is included in the rework. Trash loot values have been significantly increased on this map, making it useful not only for SP grinding but also for gaining some silver while grinding skill points.
Mob density is very high, and the distance from one mob cluster to another is very close.
It has a very low AP recommendation. You will pretty much be one-shotting mobs here when you SP grind with decent gear.

How it Works:

You can start at any point on the outer radius of this map.

Actually, this is a very straightforward map with rotations you can make on the fly as soon as you arrive in Tunkuta. There are no complicated mechanics, and you can even go the old way of just killing everything that mobs. Essentially, your aim is to be mobile as much as possible and kill as many as possible.

9. Hysteria Ruins

Hysteria Ruins Farming Guide

At number 9 is the Hysteria Ruins. Pearl Abyss made some recent changes to this map regarding its signature loot to now drop on several mobs within the area, making your grind very profitable. Not only that, but the zone also features a Zone Trait: Agris Fever, which offers the most efficient ration of junk loot obtained per Agris Fever point. You can pretty much grind on this map without having any intense gear. You will be very fine with just a decent AP of 250 to 280 kutum.

How it Works:

The main rotation here is to go straight to the NPC in this zone.

8. Jade Starlight Forest

A decent trash loot per hour is just the tip of the ice on this map. What you should look for is the Iridescent Lightstone that drops here and an easy 1.6 billion silver drop called the Flame of Frost, which is used to craft the Labreska’s Helmet.

The mobs here don’t damage you that much, given that you passed the AP recommendation and have a decent DP. As long as you do not AFK here, you’ll be fine.

Next, we have Fadus Habitat. This place would somewhat remind you of Polly’s Forest in terms of grinding and rotations. There's nothing too crazy about this spot. You may get some Caphras Stone while grinding. Trash loot per hour is not that bad, but since we are talking about Agris efficiency, this spot is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for a spot that will give you better results in terms of Agris burning. The zone has a low AP and DP requirement, so pretty much your grinding session is a one-shot killing spree all the time.

The first thing that will come to an adventurer's mind when the name Olun's Valley is mentioned is the good ol' La Orzeca Armor. That outfit set is oddly satisfying to look at. Not only that, trash loot prices for this spot are around 100k per piece, making it very efficient to grind with an Agris Fever along with a blue or yellow loot scroll. If those aren't convincing enough for you, this spot also drops the very sought-after Rich Merchant's Ring Piece.

How it Works:

This is a party zone. Please keep that in mind.
Make sure that you will invite party members or join a party that at least knows how to pre-pull in this area. Once you get used to the area, pre-pulling or even making a double pull will be easier for you.
Having a Shai class in your party is a must-have. This is not optional and not negotiable. Trust me, it will be much easier with a Shai alongside your grind.
It would be very advisable to just focus on the big golem and skip those small golems, as those small mobs do not have any significant loot to drop. So don't waste too much time. Just burst the big golem to death and move on to the next one.

4. Centaurus Herd

Another efficient spot for your Agris Fever is the Centaurus Herd. With a spot dropping mostly trash loot, Centaurus Herd can make you an easy average of 608,000,000 silvers per hour on average with a blue loot scroll plus Agris. A few Scroll Written in Ancient Language is expected to drop along the way but also Caphras Stone as well. You may also have a great chance to get a few Centaurus Belts here if you farm with Agris and any loot scroll combined.

Just like any other straightforward spot, this zone features no complicated mechanics whatsoever.

3. Gahaz Bandit’s Lair

Moving on to the number 3 spot is Gahaz Bandit’s Lair. The spot is pretty nostalgic for the Black Desert Online veteran players' community, as this place used to be the best money-making grind spot back in BDO's early days. Things have changed and it has become a very subtle grind spot, but with the BDO reboot, this place has become grindable once again. It is not back to the level of prestige it got back in the day, but hey! At least you can now grind Agris here pretty efficiently nowadays. It has a very low AP recommendation, so you can grind this easily even if you are just starting with the game.

Why Gahaz Bandit’s Lair is a Great Farming Spot

Despite being a low AP zone, the spot drops Caphras Stone and Scrolls at a decent rate.

How it Works:

Recommended AP: 140. The area has 2 different rotations.
Main: This will start at the entrance and make a path going to the east side and circling back to the entrance. This route has a lot of elite mobs but lower mob density.
Cliff: This will start at the cliff found on the west side of the main entrance, where a path will guide you, making a straightforward circular path all the way back to where you started. This route has high mob density but fewer elite mobs.
Either route you choose, both basically follow a straight path, and grinding rotations is not confusing at all. It is also easier to understand once you reach the spot or if you have already been here before.

2. Gyfin Rhasia Temple

The runner-up for this list is the Gyfin Rhasia Temple, or to be specific, the upper zone. The recent changes made by the Pearl Abyss for this map have made this zone very Agris grinding efficient. The trash loot prices have been improved as well as the Agris burned per mob. A few note-worthy drops on this spot are Caphras stone, as it drops a bit faster here compared to other spots, the Tungrad Belt, and the Krogdalo’s Stone, if you are into that. This is a party zone as well, making it less boring and more fun to grind with your friends. Just dont forget some party elixirs and draughts.

Your DPS in the party should always prioritize killing the Gyfin Rhasia Statue of Earth first. This method will make your party’s grinding session much easier and more efficient.
Gyfin Rhasia Guards will pretty much be clustered around your party pullers, so killing them after taking down the statue is a very easy feat.

1. Sherekhan Necropolis [Night]

And our most efficient spot for Agris Fever is the Sherekhan Necropolis [Night]. It is the lowest Agris points burn per mob, making this the most efficient. The Caphras Stone drop rate and trash loot prices have been increased thanks to the recent rework Pearl Abyss has done. The actual selling point of this map, aside from being the most Agris efficient, is the Infinite HP Potion. The Sherekhan’s Panacea, one of the 3 grindable key ingredients of the Ornette’s Spirit Essence or the Infinite HP Potion, can be obtained in this exact area. Orkinrad’s Belt, artifacts, and some combined magic crystals are also dropped here.

Wait for it to summon a mob. It would take a bit while due to its mini animation.
Kill the spawned mob and move to another tower.
Rinse and repeat.
