When you’re putting your Fire Emblem: Three Houses team together, you want it to be well-balanced, but you also want to use the strongest units. Naturally, you’re going to need a powerful sword user on your team! Here are the top 7 best sword users and what they bring to your team.

7. Marianne (Mortal Savant)

Of course Marianne wins!

Putting Marianne into a sword class isn’t my absolute favorite path for her, but she is a great Mortal Savant.

She actually does have a strength in swords, and with her powerful magic skills, she excels with magical swords like the Levin Sword or her Heroes’ Relic Blutgang. The latter is an incredible sword when paired with Marianne’s crest and the Mortal Savant class. Her crest and Blutgang also give her access to the combat art Best Fang.

What Makes Marianne a Great Sword User:

Marianne’s strength in magic and swords allow her to use magic swords and cause a lot of damage that way. For instance, her growth rate of magic is 50%, which is the stat that the Levin Sword uses.
Marianne has her own Heroes’ Relic sword and when paired with her crest can cause a lot of damage.
She surprisingly has a strength in swords, meaning she will level up quicker.
She learns Soulblade, which causes damage based on resistance stat. Marianne’s is 45% growth!

6. Ferdinand (Dancer)

I wish Ferdinand would dance for me!

Ferdinand is a jack of all trades. You can give him any physical class, and he will excel. With no weaknesses, he is perfect for a sword user. I recruited him on every run, and when I gave him a sword, he didn’t disappoint.

If you win the White Heron Cup with Ferdinand, he will unlock the Dancer class. This is great for him! Not only does he get Sword Avoid +20, but he is great in the class with a sword. Ferdinand has even stats that help him in battle, a great personal skill of Confidence, and he can unlock Seal Speed with his budding talent. What more could you ask for?

What Makes Ferdinand a Great Sword User:

His crest allows him to use any Heroes’ Relic without taking any damage. You can use this to give him strong swords like Thunderbrand, the Sword of the Creator, or Yuri’s Fetters of Dromi.
Ferdinand’s stat growths are pretty even across the board, with HP and speed both at 50%. Both are good skills to have as a sword user, especially speed! So Ferdinand can get multiple hits in one turn.
As I said before, Ferdinand has no weaknesses. With enough training, he proves worthy in every class. His big ego is worth it!

5. Yuri (Trickster)

Yuri is killer with that speed!

The worst thing about Yuri is that he’s restricted to owners of the Expansion Pack after completing the Cindered Shadows. Other than that, everything about him is absolutely spectacular. His special class, the Trickster, allows him to use both magic and a sword. We’re so lucky he can use a sword, as he is one of the best sword users in the game!

Yuri has the highest speed growth in the entire game at 65%, which allows him to hit multiple times. That., combined with his high strength, luck, and charm, he is almost unbeatable. Yuri also has the Fetters of Dromit relic, which isn’t a weapon like most relics. They allow him higher movement, so he can move after a turn and get out of the way, whether it’s to go towards someone else to attack or out of the line of fire.

What Makes Yuri a Great Sword User:

His high speed. Enough said.
Yuri’s unique class. Trickster comes with the DLC, so if you want to see what it has to offer before giving it to another student, Yuri is the perfect example. He was designed for it!
Trickster also learns Foul Play, which allows Yuri to switch with someone else on the map. This is great so he can get closer to someone, then avoid their attacks with his high avoid.

4. Catherine (Swordmaster)

Watch Catherine wield the powerful Thunderbrand.

Catherine is easily one of the best sword users in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, especially with Thunderbrand in her hand. It’s no wonder that many of the characters are in awe at her natural prowess.

Not only does Catherine come with her famous, or infamous, Heroes’ Relic, Thunderbrand, but she also has an incredibly high HP, strength, and speed, respectively at 50%, 50%, and 55%. Her growths are powerful, and she causes a lot of damage when hitting. Usually, she just needs one hit to kill! Now that is definitely a powerful sword user. Keeping her as a Swordmaster allows her to best utilize her weapon, skills, and strength in swords.

What Makes Catherine a Great Sword User:

Recruiting Catherine is the only way to get Thunderbrand, which you are going to want!
Paired with Catherine’s crest, Thunderbrand gives her the combat art Foudroyant.
You can recruit her very early in the game, so you have more time to level her up and train her into the strongest sword user she can be.

3. Byleth (Enlightened One)

The Sword of the Creator in our own hands.

I know what you’re thinking: Byleth shouldn’t be on this list! It goes without saying that, with the Sword of the Creator, they should be a sword user. But you can still put them in whatever class you want! Despite all that, Byleth is really an incredible sword user, so it’s great to keep them as Enlightened One.

Byleth has great stats, such as their strength, dexterity, speed, and luck, all at 45%. Plus, their base strength is higher than any other students they can recruit. It’s no wonder that they are immediately invited to teach at Garreg Mach!

Enlightened One is a class that is completely unique to Byleth, so it is worth using it to see the raw power that Byleth holds.

What Makes Byleth a Great Sword User:

Byleth gets to use the Sword of the Creator. Do I need to say more? In case I do, this is a special sword tied to Byleth and gives them, and ONLY them, the power of Ruptured Heaven. This increases their might and is effective against dragon foes.
As Enlightened One, Byleth has Sacred Power, which helps their adjacent allies by causing them to give three extra damage and also take three less damage. Byleth’s skills as a sword user help their allies as well!
With most of their stats at 45%, they hold a lot of power in all of their stats. This makes them a well-versed and evened-out swordsperson!

2. Petra (Assassin)

Petra and critical hits go hand in hand.

Petra. Petra is incredible. Not only is she a sweet and complex character whom I love, but she is killer with a sword! Literally! She has and learns a lot of skills that make her an excellent sword user.

To start off, Petra has great speed growth. Speed is highest at 60%, dexterity at 50$, and strength at 40%. While her strength growth might not seem like anything special, combined with her high speed and dexterity, it doesn’t matter. Not only is her dexterity high and gives her a high chance at critical hits, her personal ability Hunter’s Boon increases that so she can finish off tough enemies.

What Makes Petra a Great Sword User:

As assassin is a class that relies on speed, Petra is perfect for it. Her speed growth is only beaten by Yuri!
Upon mastering the Mercenary sword class, she learns Vantage, which allows her to attack first if her health is high enough.
Hunter’s Boon increases her chance of critical when her foe is at less than half health!
Petra has a strength in sword, which you can tell just by seeing her fight!

1. Felix (Swordmaster)

If, for some reason, Felix’s placement as the #1 sword user is a surprise to you, you must have never even touched the game! That’s fine, but now you know that you should use Felix as a sword. He is actually one of the most powerful units in the game and excels in most classes, but to make it easier on yourself, give him a sword and watch as he solos a map.

Felix has great growth stats, with his strength, speed, and dexterity at 55%, 55%, and 45%. This means he hits hard, multiple times, and has a high chance of critical. Not that you’ll necessarily need him to critical, but it’s always nice to have.

If you choose to make Felix your dancer, he will learn Sword Avoid, which increases his avoid by 20. While this is a good skill to have, Felix really excels as anything in the sword category, so Swordmaster is a great class for him. You can give him plenty of high-quality swords like Wo Dao or Killing Edge to watch him cause even more damage.

What Makes Felix a Great Sword User:

As mentioned before, Felix’s stats and strengths make him a perfect fit for a swordsman.
Felix’s personal skill, Lone Wolf, increases his attack when he is without a battalion. This is a way to make him even stronger.
He has access to powerful swords that he can use once ranked high enough. This won’t be a problem, considering he can level up very quickly.
Felix’s crest of Fraldarius also increases his attack damage. He’s lethal on the battlefield!

Here in this list, we’ll be exploring the top 10 swords which are some of the best in the game.

They’ll be divided into two categories. One of them will be the one-handed swords exclusive only for Noct’s use. And the other will be of two-handed greatswords used by both Gladiolus and Noctis. Let’s get started, shall we?

10. Iron Duke

Presenting the Duke of Iron, First of his Name in servitude to the Royal Reagent of the Kingdom of Lucis … as a BAT!

How to get Iron Duke Greatsword

Starting off our list with the greatswords, we’ve got the Iron Duke first in our list. You can get this bad boy via two routes, both of which are present in Chapter 15.

First, one is placed as a treasure item at the south edge of the southeastern valley of the Three Valleys. Second, you get this weapon as a reward for completing Randolph’s “A Legend Is Born” sidequest.

Personally speaking, it’s a good weapon. It’s got great attack damage but that is just about it. Certainly, amongst the highest too. Like all greatswords, they’re slow to use as well but it makes up for the insurmountable destruction that it offers. It would certainly look good on both Gladio and Noct given that it’s a greatsword.

Why Iron Duke is average:

Offers devastating damage to enemies with 581 attack which can be useful against larger enemies such as Behemoth, Bennu or Iron Giants and Red Giants.
Slow movement which can hamper the damage given to the enemy and susceptible to health drain via HP reduction.
Can be used on a horde of enemies as well which can be great for crowd control.

9. Dominator

Well, well, well. If it ain’t the Dominator. Really not talking about Gladdy here.

How to get Dominator Greatsword

This Sword is surely a familiar face if you’ve read my previous articles before. Why, it’s the Dominator, of course. Infused with the power of all that is holy, you can get this weapon via two ways. First, is via getting in the building West of Coernix Station – Alstor. The sword will be lying there. Second is via Keycatrich Trench Menace Dungeon, which is the tougher route. Keep in mind, this sword is available post-game only.

It’s a pretty neat sword, I must say. Great for fending off against Daemons and has a VERY deadly attack damage and unlike most greatswords, it’s not that slow, either. All in all, if you’re thinking of making Gladio a Paladin-themed Tank, this may be good to go. Or on Noct, if you want to give his forearms a workout as well.

Why Dominator is great:

One of the highest damage dealers with 583 Attack which can straight up pummel enemies.
Comparatively, faster speed than most greatswords making for a great weapon to use regularly.
Infused with Holy light making Daemons weaker against this sword.

8. Apocalypse

Oddly similar. That’s all I’m going to say.

How to get Apocalypse

Another familiar sword that I wrote about in my previous article. This one’s a recurring weapon from the Final Fantasy franchise, with its first appearance being in Final Fantasy V (although it looks EXACTLY like the Dominator sword. Why? I do not know.)

This one’s another post-game sword which you can get in Chapter 15 and go to the Balouve Mines Menace Dungeon where you’ll get this weapon lying near the Cobbitrice Haven campsite.

It’s a must-have for all Final Fantasy veteran fans as well as new ones. It has the highest attack stat in the greatswords category, what else do you want?

Why Apocalypse is great:

Has 597 Attack damage which is the highest in the greatsword category.
Gives off bonus damage when the player has low HP or is near death.
Perfectly usable for hordes of enemies as well as giant enemies.

Damage bonus when the wielder has low HP: Damage + (30 + 9n% where n is every percentage point reduction under 30% HP.)

7. Pain of the Vortex

For some reason, Gladio is looking oddly stiff in this one. And look, it’s glowing green!

FFXV x FFXIV All New Weapons.

Another one down memory lane. This here’s the Greatsword variant of the FF14 Collaboration event which you can get from the weapons shop/ trading post once you have completed the collaboration quest.

This one is a must on the list. Really of the deadliest greatswords in the game and one of the fastest as well. If not, THE fastest. Plus, it’s got buffs and perks as well which can help you pummel enemies in a swift and quicker way.

Why Pain of the Vortex is great:

Inflicts great aerial damage which can prove useful to players in aerial combat.
Reduces Aerial MP consumption and can perform deadly Warp Strikes as well.
High damage rate and buffs make it a weapon worth using throughout the game.

6. Genji Blade

AW HELL YEAH! Show them your way of the Bushido!

Old-time veteran fans like me would recognize the name right away and its owner as well. Gilgamesh sure does ring a bell, no? (Not the Fate series one.) This weapon here is Gilgamesh’s iconic trademark weapon. (Well, basically anything Genji.)

To get this weapon, you just need to complete Final Fantasy XV: Episode Gladiolus. And that’s it. It’s gonna be in your inventory.

Having this weapon is pretty self-explanatory, it’s fast, strong, durable and deals a lot of damage. I’d recommend equipping this to Gladio only as he comes up with a special move with this sword known as “Dual Master”.

Why is Genji Blade great:

Fast moveset animation which helps in eliminating hordes of enemies.
Dual master moveset unlocked when equipped with Gladio
Deadly attack strikes helping enemies get eliminated faster.

5. Soul Saber

That’s about the only image that I can find.

And now, we shift to one-handed swords exclusive for Noct’s use only. It’s fast, agile and speedy enough to land a flurry of attacks.

This weapon here is another one of the classics mentioned before in my article. The Soul Saber. A recurrent weapon in the Final Fantasy series, this here is a must-have in the list here. You can get this weapon when you complete Randolph’s “Cursed Legend” sidequest in Lestallum.

Why is Soul Saber great:

Noct can perform more damage with this sword when its stamina bar is low leading to more combos.
High attack rate can eliminate enemies quickly.
Deadly Warp-Strike Attacks can end battles in a mere one or two seconds.

4. Balmung

One of the strongest swords for Noct.

How to get Balmung Sword

Well, folks. You must’ve heard this one as well. Another recurring sword in the franchise making its first appearance in Final Fantasy X. This is probably one of the best end-game one-handed swords Noct can get his hands on. Go to Styliff Grove Menace Dungeon in Chapter 15 to get the weapon in your hand.

It’s tough to get this sword in one hand but once attained, it’s such a breeze when fighting against higher-level enemies. You can completely make a salad out of them with this sword. High attack rate and bonus damage as well, you can’t go wrong with this weapon.

Why Balmung is great:

Higher sword damage leading to quick elimination of enemies.
Gives bonus damage as well whenever the MP is low making it great for a cover replacement system.
Can land deadly warp-strikes finishing battles with swift speed.

3. Ultima Blade

ULTIMATE POOOWWWWAAAAAHHHHH!

How to get Ultima Blade

It’s time for number three and one of my favourite weapons is coming onto the list. This ultimate blade for Noctis is his signature weapon for the series and really showcases his personality as well as its durability and effectiveness.

You can get this weapon as early as Chapter 3 and be OP at the start of the game. How you say? Well, you need to first upgrade your Engine Blade (Duh.) three times by giving it to Cid back in Hammerhead.
To do that, you need to follow the A Better Engine Blade questline and complete it till the end.

And that’s that.

Why Ultima Blade is great:

Early access to an Ultimate Weapon is the perfect way for easing out difficulty.
Absorbs elemental energy proving advantageous.
High attack rate with fast animation proves to be a deadly combo.

Magic:- +30
Absorbs Elemental Energy when dealing the finishing blow to an enemy.

2. Sarah's Shortsword

Don’t let the size fool you. This sword’s the literal definition of “Get you a Cinnamon Roll that can kill you.” The same can be said of the previous owner of the sword.

This one’s another part of a collaboration event which was between Terra Wars and Final Fantasy XV. In this case, the main character, Sarah from Terra Wars 2 appeared as a guest character. (Terra Wars is a game made by Hironobu Sakaguchi who’s the creator of the original Final Fantasy, so yeah. There’s your relation.)

To get this sword, you just need to complete the quest “Close Encounter of the Terra Kind” sidequest any time of the game and bam, you have this sword in your inventory. Like other swords, it’s quick, it’s fast and light to use.

Why is Sarah’s Shortsword great:

Imbued with Holy Light which can be used to fend off against Daemons.
Fast flurry of attacks can end battles quickly, saving much time.
Doubles the damage delivered at full HP.

Well, ending the list here with the one-sword variant of the FF14 Collaboration Weapons. This one is a must and a well-deserved place on the list. You can also get this weapon at the trading post mentioned above in-game.

Capable of deadly warp strikes and landing quick blows like all one-handed swords, this here’s the perfect fit for Noct mid-game. Turns almost all enemies to shish-kebob and glows green too.

Why Gaze of the Vortex is great:

Inflicts great aerial damage which can prove useful to players in aerial combat.
Reduces Aerial MP consumption and can perform deadly Warp Strikes as well.
High damage rate and buffs make it a weapon worth using throughout the game.

[Top 3] Zelda: Ocarina of Time Best Swords That Are Powerful (And How To Get Them)

Even though there are only 3 usable swords in Ocarina of Time, each varies with attack damage. Furthermore, 2 of these swords are required to complete the game. Because of the time travel mechanic, some swords won’t be available to the player at certain points in the game even after obtaining them. In this list, I’ll be narrowing down each sword from least powerful to most powerful. Without further ado, let’s jump right into it.

3. Kokiri Sword

Awe, what a cute sword.

During the intro stage, shortly after Link’s nightmare cutscene, you’ll obtain the Kokiri Sword. Mido, the annoying kid blocking the entrance to the Deku Tree will inform you that a “sword and shield” is required to pass. This makes the Kokiri Sword a required weapon and item.

The sword is in a treasure chest within a nook in the forest called the “Hole of L” which is in the Forest Training Center. Unfortunately, the Kokiri Sword is the only sword Link can wield as a child and it’s also the weakest.

After the first 3 dungeons, the Kokiri Sword is replaced with the Master Sword. On a scale from 1-4 on the strength meter, the Kokiri Sword is a measly 1, which is the same damage dealt with enemies using the Slingshot or Boomerang. When Link performs a Jump or Spin Attack, the Kokiri Swords deals 2/4 damage.

Even though the Kokiri Sword isn’t a weapon to write home about, it’s the first weapon in the game and therefore holds more cherishing value, kind of like Saria’s Ocarina. And despite its weaker aspects, it gets the job done.

Why the Kokiri Sword is Great

It’s the first weapon you receive in the game!
Most reliable weapon until adulthood
Does what it needs to do

2. Master Sword

The sword of legend.

The Master Sword is the most legendary weapon in the game with its equally legendary nickname, “The Sword of Evil’s Bane”. The Master Sword has become a defining facet of Link’s identity throughout the series, including Ocarina of Time. Like the Kokiri Sword, The Master Sword is required to complete the game.

It’s located behind the Door of Time in the Temple of Time, which is in Castle Town. To open the door, you’ll need to obtain the three spiritual stones and play the Song of Time in front of the Door of Time on the Ocarina of Time.

Once Link picks up the blade, he’ll speedrun through puberty and instantly become a grown man. Link can use the Master Sword to traverse time – at certain parts of the game, this is required. And after completing the Forest Temple, you can use the pedestal anytime you like.

The Master Sword deals double the damage the Kokiri Sword does; 2/4. Even though it’s the game’s coolest weapon, it’s not the most powerful. However, during the game’s final boss (Ganon), the Master Sword is required to defeat him.

In comparison to other weapons, the Master Sword deals the same amount of damage as an Arrow, Light Arrows, Bombs, the Megaton Hammer, the Hookshot, and a Deku Stick. However, the Master Sword deals 4/4 damage when applying the Jump or Spin Attack.

Why the Master Sword is Great

It has the best lore out of any weapon/item in the game
You can time travel with it
Double the strength of the Kokiri Sword

1. Biggoron's Sword

How could Link get any cooler? With this!

The Biggoron’s Sword is a two-handed weapon and is acquired through the game’s trading quest. The trading quest can only be completed as Adult Link. Before beginning the quest, make sure you’ve freed King Zora from the red ice.

Unlike the other items on this list, the Biggoron’s Sword is optional, however, it’s the most powerful melee weapon in the game. Coming from personal experience, I recommend getting the Biggoron’s Sword, especially if you’ve never played Ocarina of Time to the fullest.

The sword was made by Biggoron, who is literally a big Goron. Even though there’s much more to the quest, one of the primary goals of getting the Sword is retrieving the “World’s Finest Eye Drops” so Biggoron can create the sword for you.

The Biggoron Sword is essentially an upgraded version of the “Broken Giant’s Knife” or “Broken Goron’s Sword”, made originally by Medigoron, Biggoron’s incompetent brother. Medigoron’s sword is degradable after brief usage whereas the Biggoron’s Sword is unbreakable.

In terms of its power, the Biggoron’s Sword inflicts double the damage compared to the Master Sword; 4/4. When applying a Jump or Spin attack, the sword deals a whopping 8/4 damage, making it the most effective weapon in the entire game. Despite being larger than any other weapon, it doesn’t negatively impact Link’s speed or agility.

Why the Biggoron’s Sword is Great:

A giant Goron made it, it must be cool

4. The Black Sword

The Black Sword is a weapon with a lot of style and unlike other weapons mentioned before, you don’t need luck to be on your side in order to get it. This one you can get it by buying any of the two editions of the battle pass available in every new version. Its passive effect will make you deal more damage with your Normal and Charge Attacks, plus your HP regenerates when scoring a Crit. Hit with any of those two attacks.

3. The Aquila Favonia.

If you love Physical DMG, this one is for you.

It’s been available since day one, as a permanent five-star weapon that you can get from the Epitome Invocation weapon banner or the Wanderlust Invocation banner (The banner of the blue wishes). This sword may look like the four-star Favonius Sword, but it’s actually much better.

Aquila Favonia is great for DPS characters that want to focus on Physical DMG, such as Keching or even Jean. It has a nice base attack, Physical DMG % bonus on its sub-stat, and an interesting and useful passive effect.

Base attack: 674
Sub-stat: 41.3% Physical DMG Bonus.
Passive effect: Falcon's Defiance: ATK is increased by 20%. Triggers on taking DMG: the soul of the Falcon of the West awakens, holding the banner of the resistance aloft, regenerating HP equal to 100% of ATK and dealing 200% of ATK as DMG to surrounding opponents. This effect can only occur once every 15 seconds.

Why is Aquila Favonia great?

It could easily be a good choice for a character that you want to deal a lot of physical damage, mainly DPS characters like Keching, Jean, Kaeya, or even the Traveler
Thanks to its passive effect and the life it regenerates when you get hit, you can be sure your DPS won’t need a healer that often.

2. Summit Shaper

A unique sword with a beautiful design.

First things first: this weapon looks amazing, and the best is that it's not only looks. If you equip this in your main DPS, be sure that things will be way easier for you. The amount of attack you can get from this sword is absurd and is one of the most broken swords in the game when it comes to dealing damage.

At level 90 it’ll give your main DPS 608 points of base attack, add up its sub-stat of 49.6% of attack, its passive effect “Golden Majesty” and your ending result will be destroying everything in seconds.

Base attack: 608.
Sub-Stat: 49.6% attack percentage.
Passive effect: “Golden Majesty”, increases shield strength by 20%. Scoring hits on opponents increases ATK by 4%. Max 5 stacks. Can only occur once every 0.3s. While protected by a shield, this ATK increase effect is increased by 100%.

Why is The Summit Shaper great?

This weapon is going to give you a lot of ATK, I recommend you to use it with your main DPS, which will result in huge numbers when you attack enemies.
It makes support characters that create shields even more valuable thanks to how its Passive effect works.

1. Primordial Jade Cutter

With a mistic-looking Jade color, we have here one of the best swords currently.

Making its first appearance in version 1.3, the Primordial Jade Cutter follows the jade weapons series. This is a five-star weapon that you’ll want to use with your DPS characters. Understanding how this sword works is key to taking advantage of everything it has to offer.

At level 90 it has a base attack of 542 points, somewhat low taking into consideration we’re talking about a five-star weapon. Its sub-stat of 44.1% of CRIT rate and its passive effect “Protector’s Virtue” totally compensates for its low base attack.

Sub-stat: 44.9% CRIT. Rate
Passive effect: Protectors Virtue: HP increased by 20%. Additionally, provides an ATK Bonus based on 1.2% of the wielder's Max HP.
