What's The Best Electric Type Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Electric types are fun, full of energy, and very, very intimidating. We all saw how Pikachu completely roasted Ash Ketchum in the very first season of Pokemon Indigo League, right? And why did Team Rocket want Pikachu so badly? Electric type Pokemon are often slept on, but there are so many great advantages to having one on your team. Which ones should you be comparing? Here are the top ten Pokemon Legends Arceus (PLA) Best Electric Type Pokemon.

10) Rotom

I think Rotom is about to change its form!

Type: Electric/Ghost

Rotom is a fan favorite. Being the only Electric and Ghost type pokemon ever released, Rotom is really one of a kind. In Pokemon Sun and Moon (and Ultra versions) Rotom is introduced as your Pokedex and guide during the duration of your Island Challenges. And since Rotom can have 5 different forms and types (6 is you're counting it's base form), it's a very useful Pokemon to have on your team.

Levitate: Immune to Ground moves
Immune to Fighting and Normal type moves
Can take 5 different forms depending on what items it's exposed to
Each item changes Rotom’s Typing; Grass, Water, Ice, Flying, and Fire (with Electric type)

Rotom can be found in the Coronet Highlands around Sacred Plaza, Stonetooth Rows, and the Primal Grotto. It’s not hard to catch, but when it spawns, you’ll be hypnotized by Rotom’s erratic behavior. The items to get Rotom to change forms can be bought from the Ginkgo Guild in Jubilife Villiage.

9) Magneton

Magneton has three eyes...

Type: Electric/Steel

Magneton was the final evolution for Magnemite back in Generation III. This MAG-nificent Pokemon will really PULL you in with its stats. Its Special Attack is enough to make any offensive player intrigued. On top of a well balanced Defense and Speed stat. Magneton does have a high weakness to Ground type moves, but makes up for that since the majority of Pokemon types aren't effective against it.

Unfortunately you won’t see Magneton floating around any of the locations in PLA, but in the Cobalt Coastlands, Magneton will spawn during Space-Time Distortions that happen throughout this map.

When I finally caught Pikachu, I felt like I had just caught a legendary pokemon. Being a naive trainer, I never wanted to give it a Thunderstone. A foolish thought! Raichu has serious power! Not to mention top level Speed. Raichu, even at spot number eight, always holds a special place on my team. We even got to see Raichu as a Psychic type back on Pokemon Sun and Moon. This might not have been everyone's favorite addition to Raichu's original form, but nonetheless, it was a pretty neat type combo.

One weakness, Ground Type

Raichu will appear during Space-Time Distortions in the Alabaster Icelands. Also, you can find an Alpha Raichu at the northernmost part of the Golden Lowlands of the Crimson Mirelands.

7) Electabuzz

You've found a wild Electabuzz!

Type: Electric

Electabuzz meets us at spot number seven. Electabuzz is a solid Electric Pokemon. It has well balanced stats, and with Ground type being its only true weakness, Electabuzz can take on most Pokemon. Also, Electabuzz is yet another example of a classic Pokemon who was given another evolutionary form. But we'll get to that later.

Head to the Alabaster Icelands. This map will be flooded with Electabuzz. IF you head to Icebound falls, you’ll be sure to head into an Alpha Electabuzz. Otherwise, there are plenty to catch by roaming the entire map. In the Coronet Highlands, Electabuzz will be hanging out with an Alpha Electivire outside the entrance to Mt. Coronet.

6) Hisuian Electrode

I wish Electrode would just smile for once.

Speed: 150

Type: Electric/Grass

Other than Rotom and its “Mow" form, Hisuian Electrode is the only released Grass/Electric type to date. This unique combination opens the door for new weaknesses. But now, having Electric and Grass types, Ground moves won't be as effective. This interesting new type combo definitely gives you a way to cover all your bases in terms of how you choose your partner Pokemon.

Type: Electric

Luxray, at spot number five shouldn't be all that surprising. Luxray has amazing stats, and can be an incredibly tough Pokemon to face if you don't have a Pokemon that knows any Ground type moves to defeat it. Right from the start of the game you can catch Shinx, Luxray's first form. And something about this electrical lion looking feline says strong, yet graceful and above the rest.

An Alpha Luxray can be caught in the Coronet Highlands near Sacred Plaza. You can also head to the Coronet Highlands and right at the beginning of the first base camp, there'll be many at Heavenward Lookout, a few along Sonorus Path, and Cloudcap Pass. There are even some around the Obsidian Fields. Especially at Lake Verity. And when I say some, I mean you'd have to be playing blind to not find one lurking around.

4) Jolteon

Jolteon is focusing all its power into a strategic, Agile Style move.

Type: Electric

Jolteon's frightening Speed and Special Attack lands it at spot number four. Jolteon, evolved from Eevee using a Thunderstone, is a crowd favorite for many Pokefans. Don't let its cute disposition and size fool you. Jolteon doesn't go down easily if you don't have a good matchup in battle. Jolteon has a great Special Defense stat. And with Ground type moves being its main weakness, it only makes sense since a lot of ground moves are Special Attacks.

STAB attacks will have great power, and should be used to hit hard and possibly paralyze tough opponents
Volt Absorb: ability will absorb Electric type moves and heal users HP by ¼… including electric moves that don't deal damage like Thunder Wave

Catch yourself an Eevee right in the beginning of the game at the Obsidian Fields in Horseshoe Plains and evolve with a Thunderstone to get Jolteon. Jolteon also will appear in Space-Time Distortions if you don't want to raise an Eevee. But who doesn't want a cute little Eevee on their team?

3) Magnezone

Psssst, look at this Magnezone and its trainer. I think they're having a pep talk.

Type: Electric/Steel

Though slower than most Electric types we've read about already, having an Electric and Steel type Pokemon can give you a leg up against several different Pokemon. However, being a Steel type also adds some more weaknesses to the table as well. Magnezone was introduced to Pokemon in the original Diamond and Pearl games for Gen IV. So it's only fitting in the savage days of the Hisui Region, that you can find and raise Magnezone.

Immune to Poison type attacks
Study: ability will leave user with 1HP against 1 Hit KO attacks
Teaching it Steel and Electric moves will make Magnezone and heavier hitter thanks to the STAB advantage
11/18 move types aren’t very effective on Magneton

Magnezone evolves by using a Thunderstone, (only in PLA,) or by leveling up Magneton in the Coronet Highlands. While at the Coronet Highlands, you will also see Magnezone flying around between Celestic Trail, Clamberclaw Cliffs, and Fabled Spring. Craft a Feather ball, Jet, or Wing ball to have a chance in catching it while he's flying. Don't forget, if you're in a Space-Time Distortion in the Cobalt Coastlands, Magnezone might appear.

2) Electivire

Way to dodge that attack from Electivire! I'm shocked!

Type: Electric

Electivire is special since he seems to be a very physically built pokemon. Electivive falls into the same category as our other Gen IV Pokemon in the sense it was an added evolution to Electabuzz. But they hit it with a stacked, well balanced stat line up. Yeah, his Defense is its lowest stat. But in my opinion, if you hit first, everything should run smoothly.

Motor Drive: books speed after being hit by an Electric type move, and takes no damage.
Move pool is very versatile and can learn Ice Punch to help combat its weakness to Ground type Pokemon.
Since Electivire is a physically driven pokemon, teach contact electric movements to deal heavy damage.

Catch the Alpha Electivire at My. Coronet in the Coronet Highlands. In the Alabaster Highlands, you can also encounter Electivire in a Space-Time Distortion. But if you have an Electabuzz, you can evolve it into Electivire by giving it an Electirizer and have him hold it while you level him up.

1) Thundurus (Therian*)

Thundurus Therian form included, take the number one spot. This sucker is quick. Slightly predictable, but if you don’t have a plan when you're trying to catch it, it’ll be tough. You have to finish the main story and then unlock the quest "Incarnate Forces of Hisui." This was one of the first tasks I actually hated doing. But it's so rewarding when you've completed it. (Spoiler: catching Thundurus does not complete the quest alone.)

Depending on which form you're battling in, either way, Thundurus has stacked stats.
In his Therian form, Special Attack power is a wapping 145! Ensure the move set also compliments its Electric and Flying types.
Using the Reveal Glass, Thundurus will transform into its Therian form.

Thundurus is but one Pokemon you have to capture while completing the quest, "Incarnate Forces of Hisui". Swim out past Sand's Reach between Lunker's Lair in the Cobalt Coastlands. Keep in mind, you can't find him as soon as you're given the quest. Thundurus can only appear during a thunderstorm. (Check your map, the weather icon should be a rain cloud with a thunderbolt). It will be a brutal batter so be sure to save your game before battling Thundurus.

What's The Best Fire Type in Pokemon Legends Arceus?

A great example of a base evolution, final evolution, and Alpha Pokemon.

Intimidating, and fueled with destructive power, Fire type Pokemon is usually a type any trainer will have on their team. In Pokemon Legends Arceus (PLA), there are some powerful choices, but which one is the best? Here are the top 10 choices you should consider when picking a Fire Type to travel with you as you seek out all Pokemon.

10) Monferno

Monferno is giving Curious George vibes here.

Basr Stats:

HP: 64
Attack: 78
Special Attack: 78
Defense: 52
Special Defense: 52
Speed: 81

Type: Fire/Fighting

To start us at number 10, we have Monferno. This fourth generation Pokemon packs a hard punch. Literally. He has a very basic base stat structure but great speed, making him useful even when fighting type be is weaker against such as Rock Pokemon. Thanks to also being a Fire type, Monferno has great strengths but also more weaknesses.

Having ability Blaze will increase fire attacks by 50%

To catch Monferno, your best chance will be to go to Ramanas Island, or Deertrack Heights; it has a 5% chance of spawning. Both locations are in the Obsidian Fields.

Its Magmar! And its happy to see you!

Type: Fire

Magmar, up until generation four, was Magby's final form. So, because of this, Magmar is built like a final evolution Pokemon. You could keep him in this form and decide not to give it the item to get it to evolve. But who's stopping at Magmar and not wanting to achieve a stronger, better Fire type Pokemon. Later in this article, you'll know how to do that if you haven't already.

Even though Magmar is a bigger pokemon, he's pretty quick. Its Speed is comparable to most legendary Pokemon!

In the Cobalt Coastlands at Fire pit Island, you can catch Magmar and see it waltzing around the paths leading to the top of the mountain.

8) Ninetales

You have just engaged an Alpha Ninetales. I hope you brought some Burn Heals.

Type: Fire

Ninetales is a gorgeous Pokemon. It's as sleek as it is deadly. At spot number eight, Ninetales can bring a lot to your team, even though it's only a Fire type. Ninetales is very fast, and thanks to a decently high Special Attack, it can deal out some serious damage.

There are plenty of Vulpixs running around for you to capture and then evolve into Ninetales. But if you're looking for an Alpha Ninetales, there'll be one waiting on the top of Firepit Island in the Cobalt Coastlands.

7) Flareon

If Flareon could have the ability, Flame Body, you could never snuggle it... EVER! *sob*

Type: Fire

Flareon is one of the original evolutions from Eevee. Anyone who's anybody will tell you that the Eevee evolutions are flushed with power. If you know how to use them. Flareon is no exception to that. All the Eevee evolutions can be very powerful in the right hands. Flareon will bring the heat in any battle, as well as all the cuteness.

Could be found with the ability Guts (Rare); will raise Attack stat by half when afflicted with a status condition (poison, paralysis, etc)
High physical attack power
Large move pool
Versatile Attacks can be taught to it

Flareon will not be walking around somewhere waiting for you to catch it. Unless you go to the Crimson Mirelands and brave a Space-Time Distortion. If you're too scared to go in, (you definitely shouldn't be) you can catch Eevee in Obsidian Fields around Horseshoe Plains and evolve into Flareon using a Fire Stone.

6) Rapidash

In PLA, always be ready to engage an Alpha... before you engage the Alpha.

Attack: 100
Special Attack: 80
Defense: 70
Special Defense: 80

Type: Fire

Another classic pokemon, Rapidash. Rapidash has a lot to offer your team. In my professional opinion, Rapidash is one of the more intimidating Fire types you can get in Arceus. Ironically, Rapidash can't have the ability, Intimidate. However, I feel like everyone at some point has thought, “Darn, they have a Rapidash!”

Flash Fire: ability to raise Fire type move power by 50% when hit by a fire type move.

Rapidash can be found in Obsidian Fields around Horseshoe Plains in Alpha form or during a Massive Mass Outbreak.

5) Magmortar

Is it me or do Magmortar's arms remind you of cannons?

Type: Fire

Magmortar was given to us in the later generations of Pokemon. Fire pokemon are all about portraying strength. When I look at Magmortar, I wouldn't want to meet him in a back alley of Veilstone City. It's interesting that even though this Pokemon was a delayed release, it's still found to be attainable in the Hisuian region, being that it becomes the Sinnoh Region later on.

A heavy hitter with high Special Attack and Attack stats.

Without evolving Magmar into Magmortar, you might see one spawn during a Space-time Distortion in the Crimson Mirelands. If you don't want to brave the distortions, catch a Magmar, give it a Magmarizer to hold, level him up and get Magmortar.

4) Infernape

Again! We made sure we were ready to battle this Alpha Infernape before hand right?

Base Stats:

HP: 76
Attack: 104
Special Attack: 104
Defense: 71

Type: Fire/Fighting

Offensive players drool over Infernape. Its first form, Chimchar, is probably one of the more sought after Fire type starters in Pokemon. Infernape is known more than for starting fires though. Infernape has beautifully balanced stats, the highest being its Special Attack and Attack stats.

There is an Alpha Infernape available for grabs in the Obsidian Fields at Ramanas Island. It'll be surrounded by Chimchar and Monferno so if you don't want to take on the Alpha yet, there are other options to get an Infernape.

3) Hisuian Arcanine

Introducing his Nobelness, Growlithe, of the Hisui Region!

Type: Fire/Rock

Hisuian Arcanine resembles a fierce knight, dedicated to protect a king or queen (in our case, trainer) at all costs! Even his Hisuian Growlithe looks like it's ready to save a princess.

Hisuian Arcanine, resembling a knight, was built for battle. Arcanine can take a few good hits before getting into real trouble. But it'll make some good hits of its own before then. Although, this guy takes more super effective damage by Ground and Water type moves being a Rock and Fire type.

Intimidate: ability lowers opponent's attack at the start of battle.
High HP, can last a while in battles excluding type disadvantages
Rock type makes many move types less effective than being a normal Fire type.

Hisuian Arcanine may appear after a Massive Mass Outbreak of Hisuian Growlithe are caught. This will likely occur in the Cobalt Coastlands. If you haven't gotten that far in PLA, Catch Hisuian Growlithe from the Cobalt Coastlands at Windbreakers Stand or Lunkers Lair. Give Growlithe a Fire Stone to evolve.

2) Hisuian Typhlosion

With Typhlosion backing you in battle, almost anything is possible.

Type: Fire/Ghost

Though Hisuian Typhlosion doesn't beat out Hisuian Arcanine stat wise, Typhlosion has less weaknesses. On top of being a Ghost type, Hisuian Typhlosion is an intimidating Pokemon, like all the Pokemon on this list. What sets Hisuian Typhlosion apart from the rest of this lineup is the Special Attack power, type advantage when battling Normal or Fighting types, and what moves it can learn and for you to use at your disposal.

There are a few ways to get your hands on Hisuian Typhlosion. If you don't pick Cyndaquil as your starter pokemon, you can catch any one in the Crimson Mirelands in a Space-Time Distortion. If you don’t want to go that route, you can also return to Professor Laventon, and he'll give you both starters you didn’t choose in the start of the story.

1) Heatran

Easily one of the coolest battles in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Base Stats:

Attack: 90
Special Attack: 130
Defense: 106

Type: Fire/Steel

Finally at spot number one we have Heatran. Heatran is a battle tank with both high attack and defense stats. Not to mention, 9/18 types of moves are not very effective. That alone should be enough to put Heatran at the top of anyone's list. It can take several hits, and because he only has three types that are super effective against Heatran, you better have done your research and saved before battling him.

What's The Best Dragon Type Pokemon Legends: Arceus?

Catching a Garchomp for your team or Pokedex will be either easy, or extremely challenging.

Since there are only two Pokemon species you can acquire before getting into the end game missions, I guess that’s a wrap! Thanks for reading!

No, but seriously, without a lot of Dragon types for you to catch while you “Seek out all Pokemon”, this list may not seem so complex. Though your options for Dragon types in Pokemon Legends Arceus (PLA) aren’t over 30, like in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, each Pokemon has its perk. Yes, Legendary Pokemon will also be included in this list, so without further adieux…

10) Hisuian Sliggoo

How can this cute little snail, dragon, Sliggoo, be so powerful. Look at that dull and adorable face!

Base Stats:

HP: 58
Attack: 75
Special Attack 83
Defense: 83
Special Defense: 113
Speed: 40

Type: Dragon/Steel

Sliggoo is a tank! Though he’s in spot 10, Sliggoo’s high Defense and Special Defense stats are comparable to some Pokemon in their final evolution! Ever get into a battle and you need to really draw out the time in order to heal your team? Maybe you’re battling Alpha Pokemon you encountered in the Coronet Highlands. This little (heavy) guy will get you through a tough battle. Sliggoo’s slow, we all know that. But with a solid STAB moveset, you got yourself a solid partner.

Useful for your team on dealing with pesky Fairy type Pokemon thanks to also being a Steel type

Sliggoo can be found in the Crimson Mirelands during a Massive Mass Outbreak, or around the Holm of Trials, and also Coronet Highlands around Ancient Quarry.

9) Gabite

Gabite is a very loyal dragon. He's awaiting your command.

Type: Dragon/Ground

In spot number nine, we have Gabite. Looking at the base stats, it’s obvious why it beats Sliggoo for this spot (sorry bud). As the evolution from Gible, Gabite, with a strong physical attack, lacks a solid defense. It definitely makes up in Speed and has stacked Attack power. Gabite is not at all bad, especially knowing after some hard work, at level 58, Gabite will evolve into Garchomp.

Type: Dragon/Steel

Hisuian Goodra, evolved from Hisuian Sliggoo, has made many trainers rage battling it. No? Just me? Anyway, Goodra, coming at spot number eight, makes sense. Your guy has incredible stats on all bases except for Speed. But it's still really good. Goodra probably won’t do well starting a tough battle, but it sure will finish one.

Any STAB Special Attack and Attack moves WILL be delightfully devastating

Useful for your team on dealing with pesky Fairy type Pokemon thanks to also being a Steel type

Hisuian Goodra can be found in the Obsidian Fields at Lake Verity during the main story only, Coronet Highlands in or around Ancient Quarry, or in the Crimson Mirelands during a Massive Mass Outbreak.

7) Garchomp

Garchomp, honestly one of the most intimidating dragons.

We all knew this was coming right? My reasoning around this is simple. In a battle, one-on-one with the only other Dragon type Pokemon (non legendary) available in the game, Garchomp meets Hisuian Goodra’s weakness toe-to-toe! (I’m sure I’ll get some hate for that… but moving on!) Most movesets for Garchomp have heavy hitting Ground and Dragon physical attacks, dishing out some gnarly, near KO hits.

Extremely difficult to paralyze.

Garchomp can be found in the Alabaster Highlands as an Alpha Pokemon (at level 85), near Avalanche Slopes. If your rank is high enough, you engage Alpha Garchomp with your team.

The Renegade Pokemon, ultimate embodiment of mistchif and betrayal, so... Loki in Pokemon form?

Type: Dragon/Ghost

The ultimate antagonist (next to Mewtwo), Giratina. As the number six pick, Giratina is a tough, and stale, cookie. His stats are well rounded. Though Speed is the lowest stat, it's not the worst and Giratina still will outrun a fair amount of PLA final evolution Pokemon.

High HP and Defense bases (can take two or three super effective hits)

Can fulfill multiple roles within your party, as needed, because of how versatile Giratina (in either form) is.

Giratina can be located after completing the mission “Seeking all the Plates”. Professor Laventon will give you the quest, “On the Trail of Giratina.” This quest will take place in the Cobalt Coastlands.

Type: Dragon/Water

Palkia is one of the strongest Legendary Pokemon to have been released. Having Pressure ability and a high Special Attack stats gives this Pokemon an advantage over the majority of available Pokemon in PLA. As a Dragon type, Palkia can learn Draco Meteor, which has a base Special Attack of 110 (lower in PLA than other games released since the original Pokemon Diamond and Pearl in 2006).

Dialga comes ahead of Palkia just by the skin of… its… scales(?). Some will say by preference. However, Dialga proves to have a stronger advantage over his counterpart in HP and having higher base physical Attack power. And even though it’s a tad slower, Dialga, using STAB moves against any opponent, had devastating Special Attack stats.

Type: Dragon/Ghost

Very few Pokemon can battle Giratina in its Origin form and win. Origin Giratina was bred to withstand most physical attacks without issues. Along with having its ability Levitate, you really have to strategize properly in order to have a chance in defeating it. Origin Giratina knows the move Shadow Force, which makes the user disappear for one turn and then attack in the next. Much like Dive, Fly, Dig, etc. With the STAB advantage, this is Origin Giratina’s most powerful move. And will cause some serious damage.

Can fulfill multiple roles within your party, as needed, because of how versatile Giratina (in either form) is.

Origin Giratina can be located after completing the mission “Seeking all the Plates”, Professor Laventon will give you the quest “On the Trail of Giratina”. This quest will take place in the Cobalt Coastlands. Using the Griseous Orb, Giratina will transform into its Origin form. This item will be dropped upon catching Giratina.

2) Origin Palkia

In its true form, Palkia prepares to destroy you Pokemon in battle.

Type: Dragon/Water

Sure, Origin Palkia’s attack isn’t super high in comparison to some others, but in the right hands, and the right move set, Origin Palkia will clean house, easily. Palkia easily makes up for lack of physical power in Speed, Special Attack, and Special Defense. Further, its insane Speed stat gives Origin Palkia a huge advantage over most opponents.

Origin Palkia can be caught in the end of the main story, or returning to the damaged Sky Pillar after completing the “Trial of Lake Acuity”, and battling the beast. (Either option is affected earlier in the game when you choose which clan to support, Diamond or Pearl.) Palkia can transform into Origin Palkia using the Lustrous Orb, given to the player by Irida (Pearl Clan Leader) in the Alabaster Icelands. You must complete the quest “The Pearl Clan’s Treasure”.

Finally, at number one, Origin Dialga. Top dog. As far as Dragon types go in PLA. Origin Dialga has high base stats, leading with Special Attack. In its “modern”’ form, STAB moves already leave devastating damage. And it carries over the same Special Attack stat in its Origin form. I’m not only obsessed with the attack power of Origin Dialga, but with how sturdy it is, too. Hisuian Goodra, as I mentioned, is a tank and has similar high defensive stats. The same fact applies to Origin Dialga.

Origin Dialga can be found in the Coronet Highlands at the end of the main story, or after the main story upon completing the “Trial of Lake Acuity.” You will have to obtain the Adamant Crystal, which is given to you by the Clan Leader of the Diamond Clan, Adaman, after completing the quest “The Diamond Clan’s Treasure”.

What's The Best Water Type in Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Being surrounded by your team makes everyone happy!

Calling all Water lovers! I'll admit, I'm a bit biased towards Water types. Yeah, Electric and Grass types have a super effective advantage on them, but Water type Pokemon are normally faster, have a large and versatile movepool, and can be made to fit various roles that your team may need. But which Water types will most benefit you in your quest for the great God Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus (PLA)?

10) Golduck

This battle should be a QUACK one!

Attack: 82
Special Attack: 95
Defense: 78

Type: Water

At the bottom of our list is Golduck. For me personally, Golduck was my first Water type while I played through PLA for the first time. Naturally, I caught it as a Psyduck before it evolved to Golduck at level 40. Golduck is fast and has some pretty high Special Attack and Attack power.

Ability Cloud Nine (most common), will take away all weather conditions in the beginning of battle.

Golduck can be found in the Obsidian Fields in The Heartwood, the Crimson Mirelands at the Holm of Trials, the Coronet Highlands in the Wayward Wood and the Lonely spring, and finally in the Cobalt Coastlands in Bathers Lagoon. With all the places you can catch Golduck, it's giving Oddish vibes.

9) Gastrodon

Gastrodon, at spot number nine, probably upsets a few PokeFans. Me included, but considering Gastrodon comes in at number nine out of about 34 Water type Pokemon available in the game, I think that's pretty high up there. Gastrodon is a Ground and Water type with high HP stats. With HP this high, this guy would make a great pokemon to start any battle since it has more than enough HP to spare.

Gastrodon can be found in the Obsidian Fields at Sandgum Flats and Ramadas Island. It can also be found in Massive outbreaks in the Cobalt Coastlands near Seagrass Haven.

Type: Water/Poison

This poor Kraken-like Pokemon gets a bad rep, lemme tell ya. Tentacruel has some pretty impressive stats in PLA. And can be added to your party about half way through the story. Tentacruel is either an easy opponent, or a team's worst nightmare. Hopefully you're not starting your battle with Tentacruel with a Fairy type.

Head to the Cobalt Coastlands, Tentacruel can be found in Lunkers Lair or Seagrass Haven. You won’t need a fishing rod in this game, standing by a body of water. Mainly because you can’t fish in PLA, but once you receive the Noble Pokemon, Basculegion, you can swim out to the areas at sea.

7) Samurott

Type: Water/Dark

In Pokemon Black and White (Black 2 and White 2 as well), Oshawott was my starter. As a committed PokeFan, I felt it was only necessary to Oshawott for my starter in PLA as well. I just have one question. Whose idea was it to add Dark type to Samurott anyway? Dark types have their perks but it definitely didn't help the guy out. It did, however, give Samurott an advantage over Psychic and Ghost Types. And this ninja seal has a sneaker, more intimidating look about him in the Hisui Region. His special attack, Ceaseless Edge, is a cut throat move that has a high chance of hitting critically.

Samurott is the final evolution form from the starter at the beginning of PLA, Oshawott. Oshawott, Dewott and Samurott can only be caught in a Space-Time Distortion in the Alabaster Icelands. The Spawn rate is pretty rare, so make sure you are in the STD from start to finish.

6) Vaporeon

Who can say no to this face!!!

Type: Water

No one can be mad that this cute, little guy is midway up on the list. Vaporeon, a first gen original. A classic Pokemon, evolved from Eevee when exposed to a Water Stone. This iconic Pokemon has some really great stats going for it; HP, Special Attack, and Special Defense. And thanks to STAB, water type moves are over 50% higher in attack power! Did I mention how cute Vaporeon is? Isn’t that reason enough for it to have spot number six?

Vaporeon is very rare and doesn’t spawn anywhere in PLA unless in a Space-Time Distortion. You can also just catch an Eevee from the very beginning of the story at Obsidian Fields in the Horseshoe Plains and give it a Water Stone. Water Stones can be dug up by a Ride Pokemon or found in a Space-Time Distortion.

5) Walrein

Alpha Walrein put up an aggressive fight in the Cobalt Coastlands.

Type: Water/Ice

Every time I see a Walrein, I think of Pokemon Ruby version, battling Wallace, the 8th gym leader. Walrein was usually the last out at the end of the battle and he always gave me issues as a kid. Walrein is very aggressive, so when you go to catch one for yourself, be ready to battle.

You can catch Walrein in the Cobalt Coastlands in Ginkgo Landing, Islespy Shore, or Hideaway Bay; as well as in the Alabaster Icelands in Arena;’s Approach. There is also an Alpha available in the Cobalt Coastlands around Ginkgo Landing.

4) Empoleon

Spot number four goes to the Emperor of the Penguins!... Oops, wrong audience. *AHEM* Empoleon, with a superior Special Attack and Special Defense stats, Empoleon can really do some damage. Its attack power is pretty good, but to bring out Empoleon’s true potential, you will focus on Water and Steel Special Attack type moves.

In the Cobalt Coastlands, an Alpha Empoleon will be waiting to greet you on the Islespy Shore. Or you can catch the entire evolution chain, Piplup, Prinplup, and Empoleon, during a Massive Mass Outbreak.

3) Gyarados

We all know Gyarados was a Flying type, but seeing it hundreds of feet in the air in the Obsidian Fields is breath taking.

Type: Water/Flying

Gyarados has been leading the pack for Water type pokemon since before Ash Ketchum left Pallet Town. In spot number three, Gyarados has a lot to offer your team. Maybe in Red though. I wonder if you could find one? Gyarados has beautifully high stats almost all the way around. The physical attack power it has should lead you in training your Gyarados in more physical attack moves.

Luckily, Gyarados is not too hard for you to find throughout the game. In the Obsidian Fields, Gyarados will spawn in Lake Verity and can also be seen flying around Obsidian Falls! Also, check the Cobalt Coastlands around Sands Reach if you want an Alpha Gyarados.

2) Basculegion

Type: Water/Ghost

Basculegion, the new Legends Arceus exclusive evolve form from Basculin, is our runner up. Not only will this guy last in a battle, but he can hit hard and is pretty quick for his size. You might first encounter this lovely overgrown fish after completing the quest when you get your 3rd Star Rank 3 and complete the 'Lordless Island' main story mission at Cobalt Coastlands. Did I mention it’s also a Ghost type?

Simply catching a Basculin and leveling it up won't get you a Basculegion. You can wait for a Massive Mass outbreak in the Cobalt Coastlands. OR. Catch a Basculin and make sure it has moves with recoil damage. Basculin will need to take at least 260-300 recoil damage in order to evolve.

The way Palkia towers over you is enough to scare off a heard of Bidoof.

What's The Best Fighting Type in Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Welcome everyone, to the Top 10 Ranked Fighting Type Pokemon of Pokemon Legends Arceus (PLA)!!! In this report, we will have 10 matchups go head to head to see who is truly the very best. Like no one ever was. *Ahem* Okay, now that the intro is done, did anyone else feel that the fighting types were slightly slept on in PLA? Still want one on your team? Well, continue reading to find out who my top 10 picks are for PLA Fighting type Pokemon.

10) Machoke

Machoke, an OG Fighting type being engaged for battle.

Attack: 100
Special Attack: 50
Defense: 70
Special Defense: 60
Speed: 45

Type: Fighting

Machoke was made to be a Fighting type Pokemon. From the balanced states to the wrestler style aesthetic, Machoke looks like it’ll give any Pokemon a hard time in battle. If you’ve ever had a hard time choosing a fighting type for your team, Machoke is a very reliable and effortless choice. Machoke can take a decent amount of hits (unless it's from a Flying or Psychic type), but it suffers in Speed.

Has high Attack stat, so STAB Fighting type moves will be increased by 50%
Guts ability also raises users Attack by 50% when inflicted with a status condition such as paralysis or poison
Higher HP and decent defensive stats make Machoke last longer in battles

Machoke can be caught in its first evolution form pretty early in the game. However, if you don't have the time to evolve a Machop, or you are on a shiny hunt, Machoke can be found in the Coronet Highlands in the Celestica Ruins and Fabled Spring. Also, search the Alabaster Icelands from Snowfall Hot Spring, all the way to Icebound Falls. If you want an Alpha Machoke, Head to the Cobalt Coastlands between Castaway Shore and Ginkgo Landing to battle the massive wrestler style Pokemon.

9) Hisuian Lilligant

A graceful, un-Frenzied, Lilligant

Type: Fighting/Grass

Here in spot number nine, we have the Hisuian version of Lilligant. Back in Pokemon Black and White, Lilligant was my go to Grass type Pokemon. Now, here in the Hisui Region, Petilil takes a bit of a different form. For most players, the first time you encounter Hisuan Lilligant, will be in the Crimson Mirelands at Brava Arena. This battle will be a tough one. And at the end of the battle, much like calming the Frenzied (Pokemon) in Obsidian Fields, you won't be able to catch Lilligant.

High Speed and Attack power, so when learning moves, hard hitting Grass and Fighting moves should be your friend
Chlorophyll ability will double Hisuian Lilligant’s speed during battles with bright sunshine
Though Lilligant has many weaknesses, it can learn a wide variety of move types to help combate opponents that will otherwise KO Lilligant.

You cannot catch Hisuian Lilligant in any of the maps. It won't even appear in any Space-Time Distortions (in my personal experience and research). Head to the Crimson Mirelands and search Cottonsedge Prairie and the Holm of Trials. There you can catch Petilil, which can evolve into Hisuian Lilligant when exposed to a Sun Stone.

8) Toxicroak

Type:Fighting/Poison

Toxicroak isn’t a Pokemon to be laughed at. Its blue and orange coloring resemble classic colors of actual (real life) toads and frogs to warn predators of its poisonous nature. Just the sight of this Pokemon should frighten you! Toxicroak will usually have a tricky moveset and will likely poison your Pokemon at some point during battle. As a fun tip, your avatar will also become poisoned if you’re carelessly walking around the Crimson Mirelands without knowing one has spotted you.

Only weak against three types, Psychic, Ground, and Flying
Along with its attack power and speed, Toxicroak can have the ability Anticipation, which the Pokemon will shutter, warning you that your opponent has a move that it is weak against
Large variety of moves it can learn, mainly physically aggressive moves.

Toxicroak can be found in two of the two of the five areas in PLA. In the Crimson Mirelands, you’ll find a Toxicroak hanging out in the boggy waters of the Holm of Trials, but also an Alpha Toxicroak in the same area. Keep your eyes open. Also, while in the Cobalt Coastlands, Toxicroak will also appear around Spring Path.

7) Machamp

Machamp! And its happy to see you!

Type: Fighting

Evolved from Machoke we have Machamp! *Que “John Cena” Theme music* Machamp is a force to be reckoned with. It has four arms and is stacked with power. If you remember from earlier, it’s very easy to start raising your own Machamp from the beginning of the game in the Obsidian Fields. At some point you might ask yourself, when is my Machoke going to evolve? Or how!? Read on my friend. The answer is here.

Only three weaknesses, Flying, Psychic, and Fairy
Can have a hidden ability (rare), Steadfast, which will increase the user's Speed every time the user flinches.
Move pool consists of many physical attack type moves and stat boosting moves.

Take on the Alpha Machamp in the Alabaster Icelands just outside of Icepeak Arena. This is your best bet and capturing a Machamp without evolving your Machoke. In PLA, we have all encountered pokemon we would think would be stuck at their second evolution; Magmar, Electabuzz, or Gravler to name a few. Machoke will evolve into Machamp when exposed to a Link Cord. A link cored can be acquired in many ways via quests or finding items within a Space-Time Distortion. But you can also buy one with your Merit Points at the Trading Post located in Jubilife Village.

6) Heracross

Type: Fighting/Bug

A lot of Pokefans tend to pass over Heracross as a great Pokemon. Especially a great Fighting type Pokemon. Heracross is one tough bug and is a very versatile Pokemon to have with you. I have been caught underestimating a Heracross in many Pokemon games released to date. And let me tell you, the Pokemon in PLA just hit different, literally. Heracross has insane STAB power with Bug and Fighting type moves. Don’t go thinking it’s an easy win when you face one in the wild lands of the Hisui Region.

Ability Swarm increases Bug type move’s power by 50%! But only when your HP is below half of its maximum.

Unique type combo makes Heracross one of the more resilient Pokemon in PLA. Go ahead, put one against Dialga or Garchomp and see if I’m wrong.

Catch an Alpha Heracross that's stomping around Grueling Grove in the Obsidian Fields. Otherwise, you can wait until you’re in the Coronet Highlands to catch the many Heracross that are roaming at the start of the map (from Wayward Wood, to Sonorous Path, through to Lonely Spring). When Space-Time Distortions form in the Crimson Mirelands, you’ll also have a very rare chance of one spawning, but it doesn’t hurt to check.

5) Sneasler

What? A Sneasler that isn't carring a trainer??

Type: Fighting/Poison

Sneasler is one of the newly added Pokemon found exclusively in the Hisui Region of PLA. Which will not surprise you that it can only be transferred to Pokemon Home and back into PLA only. Sneasley meets us at spot number five with immense speed and power. You will encounter Sneasler as one of the Noble Pokemon that you will use to climb cliffs or trees throughout the game. This will help in reaching hard to reach items or fleeing from Pokemon on the ground. You can pick up items while riding on Sneasler’s back, but you cannot send Pokemon into battle, or use Sneasler (or any other Noble Pokemon) in battle.

Only weak against Psychic, Ground, and Flying moves
Likely to have ability, Pressure, but might have Poison Touch, which may poison your target if they … well… touch you.
STAB increase for all Fighting and Poison type moves - Take advantage of this with Sneasler’s high Attack and Speed stats to finish a battle quickly.

While Sneasler won’t be seen walking around any of the maps of the Hisui Region, you can catch its base form around the Northern part of the Alabaster Icelands in Glacier Terrace, Avalugg’s Legacy, or just outside the Pearl Settlement. Once you’ve caught a Hisuian Sneasel, obtain a Razor Claw. It might be carrying one when you catch it. If not, you can head to the Trading Post and give up some Merit Points for a Razor Claw. Once you have it, give it to your Sneasel and level it up during the day.

Gallade, while powerful, may not last as long in battle as one would like. It’s seriously intimidating martial arts stance and bladed arms will win almost anyone over. With a lower HP than most would like, Gallade makes up for this in its Special Defense. And in your capable hands, Gallade can be any opponent's worst nightmare. Seriously, have you ever had one chase after you? Seriously, it’s terrifying.

If you wait until you reach the Alabaster Icelands, you can encounter an Alpha Gallade waiting for you around a corner in Snowpoint Temple. If you miss your chance there, search around the outside of Snowpoint temple or head to Heart’s Crag to catch a male Ralts or Kirlia. You can even catch a Ralts or Kirlia earlier in the game in the Crimson Mirelands. The Shrouded ruins is flooded with Ralts and Kirlia, but you can find either pre-evolution forms scattered around the West part of the map. Ensuring you have a Male Kirlia, you may use it to evolve into Gallade using a Dawn Stone.

Ever since Pokemon X and Y, I have been obsessed with Lucario. Which actually angers me a little bit because Lucario has been available since Diamond and Pearl! Lucario looks like he knows all and sees all. Lucario is the embodiment of poetry and power. After all, Lucario has phenomenal attack power, both Special Attack and physical Attack. Lucario has probably seen you and many others though every Pokemon League since the Sinnoh Region. Even though Lucario is a powerful fighter, he can be taken down if you’re not careful. For a Steel type, he sure has some average defensive stats, but take advantage of held items and moves that increase defensive stats. This should help alleviate any worry you have while in battle.

High Attack and Special Attack power; Use Steel and Fighting STAB moves for maximum impact.
Moves like Sword Dance can help out with defensive stats to prolong Lucario’s endurance in battle.

Lucario will be located in the Alabaster Icelands. At the top of Iceland Falls, you will find an Alpha Lucario stalking back and forth at an intimidating level 70. You can also find Lucario at the base of Iceland Falls or head north to Snowfall Hot Spring. If you decide to catch a Riolu, remember, it will only evolve into Lucario after you've achieved a high Friendship level, and level up during the Daytime.

How crazy is it? We had a Grass and Ghost Decidueye originally, and now we get an almost opposite version as a Grass and Fighting type combination! Hisuian Decidueye is our number two, runner up for Best Fire Type in PLA. Considering it has the same amount of weaknesses as Hisuian Lilligant, the stats make Decidueye a head above most. Hisuian Decidueye has well balanced base stats, and even though it's not the fastest, it can take a hit and give one back twice as hard.

If you don't select Rowelet in the beginning of the game, there are still a few ways you can get this Final Evolution starter Pokemon. The quickest will be to head into any Space-Time Distortion and capture one, or a Dartrix and raise it into Decidueye. It is not always guaranteed that Rowlet, Dartrix, or Decidueye will spawn. So! If you wait just a bit longer, after completing the main story, head back to Jubilife Village and see Professor Laventon. You will be given the other two starters you did not pick in the beginning of the game. So if you didn’t pick Rowlet, you’ll still obtain it in the “end”.

All its stats are well balanced, making STAB moves easier to use. Even though it has an average defense, Infernapes speed will almost ensure it attacks first in all your battles. But why else would Infernape be number one, The Ma-CHAMP-ion!

To preface, this will be focused on in-game teams, due to the fact that competitive battles for this game does not really exist anymore. Each of these teams will involve one starter’s final evolution, and there will be other recurring Pokémon.

10. Blaziken + Linoone + Gardevoir + Swellow + Manectric + Sharpedo

This team features some pretty useful Pokémon, and is also decently balanced. It features a decent amount of mega-evolution as well. Linoone is more for HMs than anything else, but it can be extremely useful as well.

Blaziken is a great Pokémon. It can offer decent coverage, especially with TMs.
Swellow is a Pokémon that can be caught early on and is a good addition to a team, especially because of its speed.
Sharpedo is a dual-type of water and dark, and because of its water-typing, any of the water-type HMs would be great on it.
Gardevoir is a really good Pokémon. Fairy and psychic typing make it really useful.
Manectric is a fast electric type, and it is easy to capture as well.

9. Swampert + Breloom + Dodrio + Banette + Ninetales + Aggron

This team involves an interesting combination of Pokémon, Dodrio is one that I hardly ever see used. All of these Pokémon excel in their own ways too, Breloom is a great Hoenn-originated powerhouse, for example.

Dodrio has high speed and attack, making it a good addition.
Banette is a great ghost type, and it’s mega in this game, which gives it a good boost. Will-O-Wisp and hex are two moves that work well together.
Breloom is a great fighting type and is really good offensively.
Ninetales is a great fire type, and is a huge improvement stat-wise from Vulpix, and is worth the time it takes to get to Ninetales.
This team has three possible mega-evolutions, which allows for some powerful Pokémon.

8. Swampert + Aggron + Gardevoir + Raichu + Heracross + Latias/Latios (depending on the player character you choose)

Latias/Latios are given to you by a character in the game for free,, so some might see using them as cheating. However, since they are legendaries, they are good Pokémon. This team offers good coverage and has a couple of Pokémon people might not consider for this game.

This team is mostly Pokémon that can mega evolve, and those allow for a really good boost.
Aggron is a good Pokémon that you can start training (as an Aron) early on in the game. It is a really good tank.
Raichu is commonly overlooked because of Pikachu, but it is a good Pokémon, and it can have decent coverage with movies like focus blast or dig.
Heracross has good physical attack and has decent typing as well.
Latios and Latias are dual types, being both psychic and dragon. Dragon types are always great to have.

7. Sceptile + Linoone + Tentacruel + Magnezone + Swellow + Froslass

Sceptile is a Pokémon people seem to regard as the best Hoenn starter in terms of its design. I digress, this team features a couple of new Pokémon for this list. Tentacruel and Magnezone are some interesting choices.

Sceptile has a decent number of physical moves to choose from, and with TMs, you can have an interesting moveset on it.
Tentacruel is an easy team member to get and can be caught fairly early on. This is a good water HM Pokémon, and there are a lot of water HMs in Hoenn.
Magnezone is a dual-type of electric and steel, which is a pretty combination of types. If it has the move magnet rise, it can avoid ground type moves as well.
Swellow is a pretty decent Pokémon to teach the move fly to It can make good use of the move in battle because of its speed.
Linoone has been a reoccurring team member, and that is because it is a staple of Hoenn. It is a good HM Pokémon, and pickup is a good ability.

6. Blaziken + Linoone + Gardevoir + Flygon + Cacturne + Walrein

This team is decently balanced and has some Pokémon that I don’t see people using often, such as Cacturne. This team is made up of Hoenn-originated Pokémon.

Flygon is a really useful Pokémon. Ground and dragon are an interesting type combination . A dragon type is always useful for any team.
Cacturne is a fairly decent grass-type, the combination of dark and grass allows it to have an interesting range of possible moves. d
Walrein can’t be caught as a Spheal until fairly late in the game, but it is a really good Pokémon. The move surf is extremely useful to have on Walrein. This Pokémon also covers for Blaziken’s weaknesses fairly well.
Linoone is, again, useful for HMs and can have an ability (pickup) that gives you free items.
Blaziken is a good Pokémon as stated before, and it can be even better with mega-evolution.

5. Blaziken + Breloom + Skarmory + Absol + Froslass + Milotic

This team features some Pokémon that haven’t been on this list yet. This team is a decently balanced team, and involves only a couple of mega-evolutions compared to other teams seen on this list thus far.

Absol can be really powerful with the move “swords dance.” Swords dance gives it a really good boost, and when combined with mega-evolution, it makes Absol really powerful.
Froslass is a good asset for this team, which has a bit of a flying weakness. Froslass covers that. Its ice and ghost typing allows for some good moves.
Milotic has a high special defense, which can make it a really durable team member. Combined with the move “recover,” it can be a menace.
Skarmory has great defense and is another team member that can use a recovery move, roost.
Breloom has been on this list once before, but it is a good team addition. Seed bomb is a really good move on it.

4. Sceptile + Medicham + Azumarill + Magnezone + Kecleon + Weezing

This team features a lot of different Pokémon and some that are used a lot less frequently l. Weezing is a rare team addition from my knowledge, and it’s always interesting to see it get some love on a team.

Medicham has a good deal of potential as a psychic and fighting type, especially when it comes to STAB moves. Though for Non-STAB moves , Poison jab would be a good move for it as that would help cover one of its major weaknesses.
Azumarill is a Pokémon that can be useful if you know how to make use of abilities, and its fairy typing makes it even more helpful.
Weezing is a decently bulky addition to this team. It has a decent defense, making it really good against physical moves. It also has some decent coverage possibilities.
Kecleon has really good special defense and attack, as well as a lot of decent moves.
This team has a lot of Pokémon with a lot of possibilities and decent coverage.

3. Sceptile + Camerupt + Magnezone + Tentacruel + Gallade + Swellow

This team has a lot of returning Pokémon from previous teams on this list, but it has a couple of new ones as well. Gallade is a Pokémon I don’t see used much, especially for this game, because people just prefer Gardevoir, so I think using it for a change would be nice.

There’s a decent number of possible mega-evolutions on this team, which, as previously stated, allows for some really good boosts.
Camerupt is a pretty good Pokémon. Fire and ground allow for some interesting move combinations. The moves earth power or earthquake can be really good moves on a Camerupt.
Gallade allows for some good possibilities with moves like hypnosis. Gallade being both fighting and psychic makes it a pretty decent addition to the team.
Giving Tentacruel a move that causes poison can make it really useful. Toxic or toxic spikes would work well.
Magnezone has a decent number of STAB moves that you can pick from, and giving it the move metal sound would make it really useful.

2. Sceptile + Gyarados + Manectric + Skarmory + Camerupt + Gardevoir

Gyarados is a first for this list, and it is a fairly popular Pokémon. This is a decently balanced team, and it covers your basic starter types of grass, fire and water as well .

Another team with a lot of possible mega-evolution, another team with a lot of possible boosts.
Gyarados is a Pokémon that can be obtained fairly early (though it is slow to level). Magikarp are everywhere, after all. This is a strong Pokémon with a decent range of moves.
Sceptile gains dragon type when it mega-evolves. Teaching this Pokémon dragon claw would allow for some decent STAB in its mega form.
Gyarados gains dark typing as a mega, and giving it crunch would allow for decent STAB when mega-evolved .
Skarmory can be really good and takes physical hits fairly well.

1. Swampert + Hariyama + Manectric + Absol + Gardevoir + Crobat

This team, for starters, has a lot of possible mega-evolutions, so that’s always fun! Mega-Pokémon adds a great boost to Pokémon. Each of these Pokémon brings a lot to the team. For example, Hariyama is a tank and a strong attacker. It’s great when you need a Pokémon to switch into when a strong attack is coming your way.

Swampert is a dual type of water and ground, which nullifies the weakness to electric type Pokémon, making it really useful.
An added bonus of starting with Mudkip is that you start off with a Pokémon that can learn the move surf , and Hoenn has a lot of water, too much almost! (*wink*)
Gardevoir is an extremely good Pokémon, its dual typing of fairy and psychic gives it a lot of possibilities.
Crobat is an easy to get addition to a team, and it’s really good. Its speed especially makes it stand out.
Manectric is a commonly overlooked electric Pokémon, but it is another high-speed Pokémon that can learn moves like flamethrower for coverage.

So many to choose, but who are the top dogs in competitive pokemon? Read on to find out.

15. Copperajah

The steel type first seen in generation 8 is a slow, heavy physical attacker that evolves from Cufant at level 34. It is immune to poison but is weak to fire, ground and fighting type attacks.

This pokemon works best when Trick Room is in play as its slow speed works to its advantage and lets it move first. However it is still a worthwhile member on any team even without Trick Room.

Copperajah learns a variety of moves, some of which are more powerful the heavier the pokemon. In this case it is definitely useful to have moves like this. The ability to Gigantamax is also possible with Copperajah and can deal heavy damage to your opponent.

14. Chandelure

When exposing Lampent to a dusk stone it becomes Chandelure, a fire/ghost type and the final evolved form of Litwick. It is immune to both fighting and normal due to its ghost typing but is weak to ground, rock, ghost, water and dark type moves.

Chandelure is a special attack sweeper and if you give it the Infiltrator ability, any attempts from your rival to use Substitute or Reflect will be ignored.

While its defenses aren’t anything great, the 145 bast special attack is nothing to shake your head at.

13. Kyogre

With only two weaknesses, being to grass and electric, Kyogre makes a strong case for itself from that alone. This legendary pokemon is both a special attacker and defender with 150 and 140 base stats respectively.

However this beast of a legendary sets itself up with its Drizzle ability, powering up its water type moves as well as Thunder.

This is a personal go-to-pokemon when I create teams to play with my friends, and there’s a reason the generation 3 pokemon is still used so much in present day.

12. Volcarona

The sun pokemon evolves from Larvesta at level 59 and is a bug/fire type. It has a four times weakness to rock, and two regular weaknesses in water and flying.

The best way to play Volcarona is to almost completely ignore the fire half of its typing. Quiver Dance and Bug Buzz are devastating when used together, and during setup you can alternate with Roost to keep your HP up.

And if you really want fire STAB, Flamethrower is always a sure bet.

11. Excadrill

Excadrill evolves from Drilbur at level 31 and is originally from generation 5. Its ground and steel typing makes it immune to both poison and electric and it has a base attack stat of 135. It is weak to fire, ground, fighting and water.

With Earthquake as one it its moves Excadrill can KO other pokemon if given a Jolly nature. This is easy to do with mints in sword and shield, or if you are building your team on pokemon showdown.

It is also able to survive hits like Hydro Pump with the Jolly nature which makes it a good member to have on your team.

10. Mimikyu

Mimikyu is the ghost/fairy type introduced in generation seven. Its strongest base stat is in special defense at 105 and is weak to ghost and steel.

The Disguise ability gives you a free turn as no matter the attack, no damage is taken. The best way to waste your opponent’s Dynamax. If you want to annoy your rival even more, add the ghost type move Phantom Force and stall once more.

This is always annoying to see on your rival’s side as you know you are about to waste a whole turn while they still get to hit you. So why not have one of your own?

9. Female Indeedee

Indeedee is a psychic normal type from generation 8. Female Indeedee is more special defensive than its male counterpart with a 105 base stat in that category. It is immune to ghost, and weak to bug and dark.

For doubles battles, Female Indeedee is the best option for the redirector role so your other pokemon can get hits in without fear of fainting. Helping Hand, Follow Me, Reflect and Protect are a good combination of moves for it to have.

8. Dracozolt

The only fossil pokemon on the list, Dracovish only just missing the cut, is Dracozolt. The electric/dragon pokemon from generation 8. It does not evolve from anything, but is the combination of the fossilized bird and fossilized drake. It is weak to dragon, fair, ground and ice.

This fossil is practically an all-rounder with 100 base attack and 80 special attack. This opens up the move pool you can choose from. Its signature move Bolt Beak is a must have with 85 power plus STAB and 100% accuracy. Other moves such as Dragon Rush, Dragon Claw and Outrage are also good shouts when building your moveset.

7. Duraludon

The generation 8 steel/dragon type does not evolve from or into anything at this point in time, and is capable of Gigantamaxing. It has an immunity to poison and is weak to ground and fighting.

Duraludon has a very strong typing both offensively and defensively. With only its special defense and speed being sub par, it is a tank. This can be changed if you were to Dynamax or Gigantamax with the move Stomping Tantrum in your moveset. Max quake will boost your special defense and make it an even stronger all-rounder than Dracozolt.

The only part to worry about is his speed, and if you are playing a Trick Room team, then it’s problem solved.

6. Rillaboom

Rillaboom is the final evolved form of the generation 8 grass starter line. It evolves from Thwackey at level 35 and is capable of Gigantamax. It is weak to flying, poison, bug, fire and ice.

The grass starter is known in competitive to be flexible in both offensive and defensive plays. The hidden ability Grassy Surge makes it a top choice as it sets up healing for your whole team and boosts its STAB grass moves.

Alongside grass moves, you can also give it Earthquake for a heavy hitting move with 100% accuracy.

It’s clear to see why out of all the possible starters, Rillaboom is the one who made the list.

5. Dragapult

The stealth pokemon Dragapult is the pseudo legendary from generation 8 and is the final evolved form of Dreepy. It evolves from Drakloak at level 60.

It is immune to fighting and normal type moves, and is weak to ghost, ice, dragon, dark and fairy.

This pokemon is a big threat to your opponent as it is very fast at 142 base speed as well as having high stats in both physical and special attack.

Phantom Force is the go to move the majority of players will have on their Dragapult, and for good reason. As well as being STAB, it has 90 power, 100% accuracy and lets the user vanish on the first turn, making it semi-invulnerable to attacks until the second turn when they strike.

In addition, if you want to give it the life orb for that extra punch, by all means, but it may be worth having Rest and Sleep Talk as two of your other moves so you don’t run out of HP by attacking.

4. Urshifu

Urshifu is available in the generation 8 DLC when you receive Kubfu and complete the Tower Of Two Fists challenge. You are able to choose whether it becomes a fighting/water type or fighting/dark, depending on which tower you challenge.

Trying to Intimidate Urshifu or use Protect will be pointless for your rival’s team, as their signature moves Surging Strikes and Wicked Blow (depending on your typing) are always critical hits, negating the ability and status move.

They also have priority with Aqua Jet and Sucker Punch if their critical hit move becomes unavailable through disable or running out of PP.

The guaranteed critical hits good stats immediately put both forms of Urshifu high on the list.

3. Galarian Moltres

Galarian Motres is the regional form of generation 1 legendary Moltres. It changes from a fire/flying type to dark/flying. The galarian form is available in the second phase of the DLC.

The galarian form focuses more on special attack and defense more so than the original form. It is immune to ground and psychic and is weak to electric, ice, rock and fairy. This typing is strong as it resists more types than the original counterpart.

With Max Darkness to lower your opponents special defense, it allows Galarian Moltres to sweep the team with its high special attack.

Add on a life orb and it is universally agreed this is tough to beat pokemon.

2. Regieleki

Regieleki is one of the newest regi-forms released in the DLC of generation 8 alongside Regidrago.

What it lacks in defenses, it more than makes up for with a 200 base speed stat. It’s insane how fast this pokemon is.

Add Electroweb as one of its moves and there will be nothing that comes close to matching its speed, leaving all the others in the dust.

This pokemon is very adaptable as it can be run on many teams, making it a great go-to-pokemon when team building.

1. Glastrier

Glastrier is another legendary added to generation 8 through the DLC and is a pure ice type. It is weak to fire, fighting, rock and steel.

While its typing isn’t the best by any means, it is still a force to be reckoned with as it is a beast in battles. It has very good stats, while speed does let it down. However a simple Trick Room team can easily solve that and have Glastrier destroying everything in sight.

Its ability Chilling Neigh is the real top of the cake with this pokemon. Every time it makes a pokemon faint, its attack stat is boosted. Once it’s on a roll, it will not stop for anything.

With this card, you have a real heavy hitter. Even if your opponent tries to only chip away at your HP, you can immediately hit back like a truck. Charizard’s VSTAR Power is nothing to shake your head at either.

A strong contender if you plan on playing with fire, or building a deck that centres around Charizard in all his VSTAR glory.

This card can either be the ultimate active pokemon or can be completely useless. Let’s go with the assumption you have more than one Fusion Strike pokemon in your deck. The Cross Fusion Strike attack can be used for only two basic energies and can duplicate the attack of any of your Fusion Strike benched pokemon’s attacks.

Other pokemon in the past have had similar abilities, but have had more restrictions as you needed to match the energy of the attack you are replicating, which makes Mew VMAX superior. Max Miracle is a decent attack as well. But make sure you have a variety of heavy hitters in your deck that Mew can copy.
