NOPE I'm outta here

It’s a commendable feat for a game to stay scary and tell a good story in an 8-hour playthrough. But for a game demo to do all of that and more in only 20 minutes is nothing short of phenomenal.

P.T. or Playable Teaser is the game demo for the canceled Silent Hills game that was supposed to be directed by Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima starring Norman Reedus as the main character.

Unfortunately, Silent Hills was canceled due to a falling out between the studio and Hideo Kojima.

Despite this cancellation, they still managed to put out the PT demo. It tells a story of a man walking around a looping L-shaped corridor where pieces of mystery are strewn all around.

From distorted family photos, doors that lock by themselves, and a deformed baby fetus on the bathroom sink, this game has it all.

The tension and fear that PT brings in its 20-minute runtime are astonishing as it blends together fear, anxiety, and uncertainty and the introduction of one of Silent Hill’s most terrifying entities, a one-eyed ghost called Lisa.

The horror and fear that PT brought inspired countless other games such as Soma and the revival of the Silent Hill series as a whole.

PT may be a ghost of a dead game but there's no denying the influence and fear it has given players since.

Players are tasked with exploring the many facilities of the space station, Talos 1, as they search for clues, all the while defending themselves from the numerous Phantoms and Mimics that roam the halls of the station.

In the same vein as Dead Space, Morgan Yu is an everyman who must rely on unconventional tools as weapons against the Typhon. What sets Prey apart is that it lets players make use of a wide range of powers derived from the Typhons themselves.

The Quarry Death Scenes (All Characters)

Are you curious about all the possible ways in which The Quarry characters can meet their end? With a butterfly-effect game, there is bound to be a bounty of possible deaths. This article goes over all the possible deaths for every protagonist and side character. Maybe you’ll find some that you want to see for yourself.

Protagonists

Jacob Custos

A dumb jock with a heart of gold.

Jacob is an extroverted, optimistic jock who is head-over-heels in love with Emma. He is far more emotional than he may appear on the surface. He is willing to do anything–including tampering with the only accessible vehicle–in order to try to continue his relationship with Emma (despite the fact that she has made it quite clear that their relationship was only meant to be a summer fling).

Death 1: Drowning

Detangle, don't pull.

Choosing to dive into the lake to retrieve the rotor arm, Jacob gets caught on barbed wire that is wrapped around heavy chains. If you choose to pull rather than detangle, Jacob will not be able to break free and will drown.

Given this is the only drowning related death in the entire game, this death stands out. The fact that Jacob only gets caught on the barbed wire after being jump-scared by a bloated corpse, adds to the tension and uniqueness of the scene. Overall, a good death scene, although he does drown quite quickly–it could have been drawn out a bit.

Death 2: Shot by Ryan

This is why you should yell out if your friends are shooting at you...I mean, this is partially on you Jacob.

After hearing Abigail scream, Jacob runs back to the campfire. However, he does not say anything, so Ryan is not sure if it is a friend or foe. Playing as Ryan, you have the option to shoot towards the bushes twice–if you do so, you end up shooting and killing Jacob.

Not a very satisfying death scene, as we do not actually see his death. We only find out he is dead after Ryan shoots the shotgun twice. If it did not pan over to Jacob’s corpse, we would not know for sure that Jacob was dead until the end credits of the game. There could have been more drama if Jacob came stumbling out of the bushes, clutching his wounds, before falling over dead. Now that would add some drama!

Death 3: Killed by Werewolf-Max

Talk about a tense death scene.

While on the island running from the werewolf (Max in werewolf form), Jacob may fall off the bridge and if you do not mash the X/A button, Jacob will not be able to pull himself back up. This gives werewolf Max enough time to lunge at him, biting Jacob’s neck hard enough that it results in decapitation.

A satisfying death scene. There is built-up tension as Jacob runs from the werewolf, then falls over the edge (but hangs onto the ledge), before losing his grip and getting decapitated. The way werewolf Max lunges to attack the dangling Jacob, before decapitating him, is also quite satisfying to watch.

Death 4: Facefirst into a Bear Trap

This is just kind of funny.

When Jacob is running through the woods, he accidentally steps in a beartrap. If you choose to pull free, Jacob will lose his balance after pulling his foot out. If you miss the skill check, Jacob falls face first into the bear trap.

What a death! There is already tension due to the fact that Jacob is incredibly vulnerable, running partially naked through the woods, and then steps into a bear trap, making him an easy target. We have a quick sense of relief as Jacob is able to pull his put back, only for that relief to be crushed when he stumbles forward, face first into the bear trap. Definitely a unique way to go.

Death 5: Ryan, You Idiot!

God damn it, Ryan!

While Ryan is trying to figure out how to let Jacob out of the cage, if he chooses the wrong breaker combinations (first Breaker 1 and 2, then Breaker 3 and 4), he will accidentally open the middle door and the door to the werewolf’s cage, causing the werewolf (werewolf Nick) to rip Jacob’s throat out.

A satisfying death owing to the tense circumstances. As the player, we are on edge trying to figure out which breakers to switch in order to safely let Jacob out. Realizing that we are the reason the werewolf is able to get into Jacob’s cage, before subsequently ripping his throat out, is a bit awkward. Whoops…

Death 6: Power Outages = Throats Ripped Out

Should've convinced Ryan to let you out earlier.

When Laura turns off the power in the Hackett House, this causes the cell door(s) to open in the Hackett dungeon area. If Jacob has not been successfully let out by Ryan, werewolf Nick will charge in and kill Jacob.

This death is not the most satisfying, although it does prove how the seemingly distant actions of another character can prove fatal for one character. Plus, it is ironic that Laura’s actions, which were done to save herself and (possibly) Ryan, also result in Jacob’s death.

Death 7: Don’t Trip or Your Chest Will Rip

What else can you expect when you trip during a werewolf chase?

If Jacob chooses to run from the werewolf in the woods, and then misses the X/A button mash, he will trip, giving the werewolf time to tear apart his chest. For most of the possible deaths in this section, Jacob screams out “I’m sorry” as the werewolf is tearing into him.

There are a number of possible deaths during this section, all (but one) of which end in the werewolf tearing apart Jacob’s chest. The reason why is what differs. This death is more satisfying than the others given the fact that Jacob trips and falls onto the ground.

Death 8: Hold Your Breath or You’ll Lose Your Chest

Really? You can't hold your breath a little longer.

While hiding from the werewolf, if Jacob fails to hold his breath, the werewolf will pounce and tear apart his chest. Again, he screams out “I’m sorry” as he is being killed.

Another variation of the death in this section, this one is not as satisfying as the trip, because Jacob ‘s death is caused by him not being able to hold his breath. Accidentally tripping while running through the woods is understandable, but not being able to hold your breath for a minute? Come on man.

Death 9: Torn in Half

Wow! Now that's a gruesome way to go.

While running from the werewolf, Jacob misses the QTE for the snare trap, causing him to get pulled up by the foot, dangling there–easy pickings. The werewolf bites into Jacob’s torso and slashes into him with its claws to the point that Jacob is cut in half.

There are many possible deaths during this section of the game (see Deaths 7, 8, and 10), but this is definitely the stand out. While most of the other deaths simply involve Jacob making a mistake that results in his chest getting torn apart, Jacob is devoured so intensely in this scene, that he is literally ripped in half. The fact that Jacob literally gets ripped in half, makes this a standout death. Definitely one of the most gory deaths in the game.

Death 10: No Choice is Always the Worst Choice

Fight or flight are always better options than freeze.

While in the woods on the run from the werewolf, Jacob has the opportunity to either run or hide–if he chooses to do nothing, the werewolf will lunge at Jacob and tear into his neck so hard he is decapitated. Another death in this section in which he screams out “I’m sorry” as he is being killed.

The fact that this death is caused by not making a choice is a bit frustrating, although the player feels a sense of vindication in the sense–if you stand in the open while being chased by a monster, what else could you expect? This one is better than deaths 7 and 8, due to the fact that Jacob gets decapitated, which is always more fun to watch. I mean who doesn’t love the drama of a decapitation?

Emma Mountebank

A wannabe social media influencer who is bound to get lots of great content tonight...but will she survive to post it?

Emma is someone who stands out wherever she is. She is an extroverted, ambitious, and snarky aspiring social media influencer. Although she may seem superficial, she has immense fortitude and independence, which she demonstrates as the events of the night unfold.

Death 1: Don’t Pick the Trapdoor First

Goodbye cruel world!

While in the treehouse on the island, Emma is presented with the option of searching the bag first or opening the trapdoor. If she chooses to open the trapdoor, werewolf Max will rip her throat out. Anything for the vine right?

This death is a bit satisfying due to the foreshadowing–Emma literally says that death is behind the trapdoor, but chooses to open it first anyways. Situational irony like that is always satisfying to watch.

Death 2: No Choice = Throat Ripped Out

Just choose one of them!

While in the treehouse on the island, if Emma searches the bag first, she will get a change of clothes, a taser, and bear spray. When she opens the trapdoor, if she does not choose to use either the taser and bear spray, werewolf Max will have time to rip her throat out.

Similar to the death scene with Jacob, doing nothing is almost never a good option. As the audience, we feel frustrated–why didn’t you do something, anything? This leads to a sense of “well, that’s kind of what she gets”.

Death 3: Don’t Lose Your Grip

No guts, no glory.

While running away from werewolf Max, if Emma misses the QTEs and X/A button mashing, she will fall off the zipline and not be able to grab onto the ledge, causing her to fall to the ground, where werewolf Max will rip out her stomach.

Jacob has a similar death, but this death is more satisfying. There is even more tension in this scene, because Emma is running for her life, falls off the zipline, has the potential to grab the ledge but fails, and then falls to the ground, where she could potentially be okay, only for werewolf Max to pounce and rip open her stomach.

Death 4: Don’t Slip

I guess Max really hates it when people slip.

While running away from werewolf Max, if Emma uses her bear spray, before she approaches the slippery area of the bridge, then misses the QTE to avoid the water, she will slip and fall, allowing Max time to thrust his hand through her torso and rip out her throat. (She has no weapon to fight him off)

There are many ways that Emma can die from werewolf Max, but this is probably the most gruesome. The overkill of werewolf Max thrusting his hand through her torso, before ripping her throat out, makes this death more satisfying.

Death 5: If You Don’t Grab the Weapon in Time, The Weapon was Useless

All you had to do was grab the weapon Emma.

While running away from werewolf Max, if Emma misses the QTE to avoid the water, she will slip and fall. If she fails to grab her taser/bear spray in time, Max will thrust his hand through her torso and rip out her throat.

This death is the same as Death 4, except in this version, Emma did not use her weapons earlier, so she still has the potential to survive. The fact that Emma had one last chance to fight off Max, but fails to grab the weapon in time, adds to the tension of the scene.

Death 6: Don’t Trip

Tripping again? Maybe y'all need to invest in some better shoes.

While running from werewolf Max, if Emma misses the QTE to jump over the hole in the bridge, she will trip and fall, giving Max time to rip her apart.

Another warning to watch your footing, this death is alright, but not as satisfying as some of Emma’s other deaths.

Death 7: Gutted

Okay, now this is a more gruesome twist on no guts, no glory.

While fighting off the werewolf, if Laura chooses to block the door, then use the bear spray, and fail the QTEs to remove the chair blocking the door and grab your taser, Max will rip out Emma’s intestines.

You have to make quite a series of choices to get this particular death, but the ending is worth it. Some of Emma’s other deaths via Max are generic–throat gets ripped out–but this is far more graphic, which makes it more satisfying

Death 8: You Better Climb That Ladder

Really Emma? You couldn't climb the ladder a little faster?

If Emma fails to climb up the stairs to the roof of the treehouse and fails to grab her taser in time, werewolf Max will slam Emma into the ground, punch her, and bite her until she dies.

The added violence on Max’s part–slamming her into the ground, punching her, then biting her in different areas until she dies–makes this death fairly satisfying.

Death 9: Splat

Guess you can die from falling at that height.

If Emma makes it to the roof of the treehouse, but reels the zipline too quickly, alerting Max, she will have to reel it in more or jump to the handlebar. If she misses the QTE, she will fall to her death.

During the running from werewolf Max scene, there are many ways for Emma to die. However, this is only one in which Max does not directly kill her, making this a standout. It is also more satisfying in the sense that Emma is a hand's reach away from escaping, only to fall short and subsequently fall to her death.

Death 10: If You Reel In, Protect Your Throat

Werewolf Max pulls out some vampire moves in this one.

If Emma makes it to the roof of the treehouse, but reels the zipline too quickly, alerting Max, she will have to reel it in more or jump to the handlebar. If she chooses to reel it in, but fails the QTE, werewolf Max will grab her and rip her throat out vampire-style.

There are a number of deaths by the throat getting ripped out, but the way this one is animated is reminiscent of vampires grabbing their victims and ripping their throats out. The slight difference in animation makes this more satisfying.

Death 11: Death by Silver

Silver allergy?

Emma, in her werewolf form, can be shot by Kaitlyn with regular bullets, in order to scare the werewolf away from the lodge. Kaitlyn can choose to use silver bullets; if she does, Emma will die.

The irony and tension in this scene makes for a good death. The player knows that this werewolf is Emma, but the character you are currently playing as does not. So this death scene forces you to pick a play style–are you playing as yourself, who has far more knowledge, or are you playing as the characters with the limited knowledge they have?

Death 12: Beware of Toxic Exes

Emma had the right instinct when wanting to end her relationship with Jacob...

If Emma is able to reconvene with Jacob, but Jacob is infected, Jacob will turn in front of her and violently attack her, biting her and yanking her around so hard that he rips her head off.

The tension in this scene is fantastic. Emma seems to have a slight change of heart, or at least she demonstrates a bit more compassion towards Jacob’s feelings about not staying together, only for that to go to waste with Jacob’s aggressive and toxic comments as he turns into a werewolf. His aggression causes a violent attack on Emma, which is quite mouth-dropping to watch as a player. Afterall, the whole reason the counselors were stuck here is because Jacob tampered with their ride so he could have another shot with Emma…only for him to violently decapitate her.

Abigail Blyg

Maybe avoiding Nick might be the best for you Abi...

Abigail is a shy artist who can always be found sketching in her journal. She struggles to open up, but with some advice from another camp counselor, she opens up to Nick…for better or worse.

Death 1: Head Thrown Across The Room

Now that's a decapitation!

In the pool house, when Nick is about to turn, if Abigail does not shoot him, Nick will turn and attack Abigail, biting her neck and tossing her head across the room.

This death scene is quite satisfying as the player is put in a tense situation–they know that Nick is likely about to turn into one of the creatures, but should they shoot him (which may kill him)? The tension combined with the intense violence of her death, including a close-up of Abigail’s decapitated head, frozen in a shocked expression, makes for quite an intense death scene.

Death 2: Kaitlyn Shoulda Shot

Thanks a lot Kaitlyn!

When Dylan opens the car door, letting werewolf Emma out, Kaitlyn has the option to shoot the werewolf or run. If Kaitlyn runs, werewolf Emma will pounce on Abigail, causing her to fall down to the cellar floor and rips her throat out with her claw.

The emotional tension in this scene is fantastic, because you do not know who is going to die–you know it’s likely that any of them could die, but you’re not sure who. The fact that Kaitlyn’s choice to protect herself causes Abigail’s death is frustrating, but satisfying in the sense that one character’s survival could result in another’s death. Additionally, the way in which werewolf Emma pulls a Roman Reigns and spears Abigail down into the cellar before killing her, is incredibly satisfying.

Death 3: Climb Abigail, Climb!

If you were just a little faster Abi...

When trapped in the cellar with the werewolf, if Abigail chooses to escape via the ladder, but fails the QTEs, the werewolf will rip her apart with her teeth.

This death is not as satisfying, but more so frustrating. If Abigail just hurried up a little bit, she would be safe and sound. This death has a sense of, “well this one’s kind of on you”.

Death 4: Don’t Choose the Stairs

I guess don't run towards the light?

When trapped in the cellar with the werewolf, if Abigail chooses to escape via the stairs, the werewolf will pounce on Abigail and kill her before she even makes it to the stairs.

This death is a bit frustrating for a different reason. Similar to Max’s death, this is solely based on the split-second choice you make. There is no way for you to fight back against werewolf Emma–if you choose to go for the stairs rather than the ladder, you automatically die.

Dylan Lenivy

Dylan is a sarcastic, witty young man, who always seeks to lighten the mood. However, Dylan has a complicated interior persona that he only reveals to a select few. Under his snarky exterior is someone with immense bravery and empathy; he demonstrates immense fortitude by asking Ryan to cut off his hand when he is bitten by one of the werewolves and empathy through his willingness to sacrifice himself in order to protect Kaitlyn.

Death 1: Kaitlyn Misses the Shot

I thought Kaitlyn was the best shot...

When Dylan opens the car door, werewolf Emma jumps out. Dylan goes in the car and tries to start it. If Kaitlyn tries to help, but misses the shot, then werewolf Emma pounces through the front window and tears him to shreds.

There are a couple ways that Kaitlyn’s actions can result in Dylan’s death in this scene. This is frustrating, but the way that Emma pounces through the car window and tears Dylan apart is rather satisfying to watch.

Death 2: Really Kaitlyn? Running?

Really Kaitlyn? That's cold.

When Dylan opens the car door, werewolf Emma jumps out. Dylan goes in the car and tries to start it. If Kaitlyn chooses to run, then werewolf Emma pounces through the front window and tears him to shreds.

Again, Kaitlyn causes Dylan’s death here, but this time, it is out of cowardice or self-preservation (whatever you prefer to call it). This provides a sense of shock and frustration towards Kaitlyn, which makes it a bit more satisfying to watch.

Death 3: Dylan Sacrifices Himself for Kaitlyn

Just Dylan being selfless.

When Dylan opens the car door, werewolf Emma jumps out. Dylan goes in the car and tries to start it. If Kaitlyn shoots Emma, then Dylan falls out the car door. If Kaitlyn misses the second shot, then werewolf Emma will charge towards Kaitlyn, but Dylan will push her out of the way and get attacked by werewolf Emma. Kaitlyn has another chance to shoot Emma, but if she misses, Emma will eviscerate Dylan.

Dylan is one of the only characters who has multiple death scenes based on him sacrificing himself for others, and this one is incredibly satisfying. Dylan’s sacrifice allows Kaitlyn to live, and he doesn’t hesitate to do it.

Death 4: Dang Blowtorch

If only you lit the blowtorch in time.

While in the crane at the junkyard, if Dylan fails the QTE with the blowtorch, the werewolf will break through the crane window and brutally kill Dylan–including ripping off his left arm.

The reasons for Dylan’s death in this scene–failing to light the blowtorch–are not very satisfying, but the actual death is–the werewolf must have a twisted sense of humor, because he brutally attacks Dylan, including ripping off Dylan’s left arm (which depending on your choice in the radio shack may be missing its hand).

Death 5: Now That’s Just Cruel

What does the universe have against Dylan keeping his arm?

While in the crane at the junkyard, if Dylan successfully turns on the blowtorch, but fails the next QTE, the werewolf will slap it out of his hands and bite down on his one good arm. In this version, Dylan had his hand cut off earlier (to prevent the infection), Dylan cannot grab the blowtorch (talk about a cruel joke), resulting in the werewolf killing Dylan–including ripping off his already deformed arm.

This is an incredibly satisfying and twisted death scene. Imagine choosing to cut your hand off to prevent an infection from spreading, only for that choice to prevent you from grabbing a weapon to save your life only a few hours later. The universe really has a twisted sense of humor.

Death 6: Just Reach a Little Further

This one's on you Dylan.

While in the crane at the junkyard, if Dylan successfully turns on the blowtorch, but fails the next QTE, the werewolf will slap it out of his hands and bite down on his one good arm. In this version, Dylan did not have his hand cut off earlier, so he reaches for the blowtorch, but fails the button mashing, resulting in the werewolf killing Dylan–including ripping off his arm.

This version is more frustrating than satisfying, because Dylan has his hand intact in this version, so he could potentially grab the blowtorch and fight off the werewolf. It is frustrating to watch, knowing that he could potentially survive if he reached down a little further.

Death 7: Overkill

What does this werewolf have against Dylan?

In the lodge with Kaitlyn, if Dylan chooses to wait and Kaitlyn fails to shoot the werewolf Caleb, she runs away, leaving Dylan in the werewolf’s path. Then the werewolf rips out Dylan’s throat and slams him repeatedly into the ground and proceeds to eat him.

The overkill in this scene makes it more satisfying. Really werewolf? Was all that necessary?

Death 8: Ragdoll

This werewolf needs to go to anger management.

If the werewolf kills Kaitlyn and Dylan rushes into the kitchen, he ends up falling on the ground, where the werewolf bites Dylan by the throat and thrashes him around like a ragdoll.

The nature of the death is satisfying in this version as well, owing to the intense thrashing while clamping down on Dylan’s throat. Talk about anger issues.

Nicholas (Nick) Furcillo

His hair is more fascinating than his personality.

Nick is a shy jock with intense emotions that he tries to hide. Over the course of the night, he opens up to Abigail, letting her see the other facets of his personality.

Death: Fleeting, Just Like His Screen Presence

If only Ryan spoke up...

When Laura and Ryan find the Hackett dungeon, Laura has the option to shoot the werewolf in the cage (who they don’t know is Nick), if Ryan does not stop her. If she does, Nick dies.

Much like his character, Nick's only possible death scene is rather underwhelming. As the player, we are not 100% sure about the identity of the werewolf in the cage. We only find out at the end of the game, in the credits. So that is a bit frustrating. The fact that this is the only way Nick can die in the game is also a bit disappointing.

Kaitlyn Ka

Snarky, indepedent, rational, and a self-proclaimed excellent shot...although many possible deaths suggest otherwise.

Kaitlyn is a snarky independent woman who takes up the initiative to be the leader of the group. She provides a refreshing sense of reason and temperance amongst the impulsive decisions of some of the other counselors.

Death 1: Take the Shot Next Time

Where are those shooting skills Kaitlyn?

At the junkyard, when aiming towards the motion detector lights, if Kaitlyn misses the shot, the werewolf tears her apart.

This is not a super satisfying death. If Kaitlyn had made the shot, she would have lived. On top of that, the death itself is nothing special.

Death 2: Torn Apart in a Car

You had a couple ways out of this and you failed them all? Kind of on you Kaitlyn.

At the junkyard, if Kaitlyn chooses to hide in the car, fails to hold her breath, and fails to take the shot, the werewolf will tear her apart in the car.

Similar to other deaths caused by not holding one’s breath, this is a bit frustrating. However, the animation of the werewolf tearing her apart in the car, adds tension due to the cramped space causing a sense of entrapment.

Death 3: Almost There

Again, indecision is never the answer.

At the junkyard, if Kaitlyn chooses to hide in the car and fails to hold her breath, but successfully shoots the werewolf, she will run out towards a pillar with a chain on it. If she does not mash the button, the werewolf will pounce on her and kill her.

This death is a bit of a rollercoaster, as Kaitlyn narrowly escapes the werewolf’s attack while hiding in the car, only for her inaction outside to kill her. The fact that she is able to escape for a brief moment, only for her inaction to get her killed is both frustrating and satisfying. Afterall, what can you expect if you stand there doing nothing?

Death 4: So Close

At least they both get crushed.

At the junkyard, if Kaitlyn chooses to hide in the car and fails to hold her breath, but successfully shoots the werewolf, she will run out towards a pillar with a chain on it. If she smashes the button, but fails the next QTE, the werewolf will pounce on her and knock over the pillar, causing the shipping container to crush both of them.

This is more satisfying than Death 3, because she gets even closer to crushing the werewolf and getting out alive, only for a split section misstep to result in both her and the werewolf getting crushed by a shipping container. At least she took out the werewolf too. There is a bit of satisfaction owing to the fact that the werewolf spears Kaitlyn, causing his own death as well. On top of that, this is one of the only deaths by getting crushed, making it satisfying for its originality.

Death 5: No Dylan = Death

Guess Dylan is more of an asset than you thought Kaitlyn.

If Dylan is not alive at this point in the lodge with Kaitlyn, if Kaitlyn misses the shot, the werewolf will grab Kaitlyn by the throat, lift her up, and smash her repeatedly into the ground.

The overkill in this death is satisfying, although it is frustrating that Kaitlyn could have survived if she had simply made the shot (and considering she’s supposed to be a master marksman, why would she miss?).

Death 6: No Choice is Never the Good Choice

This one is on you Kaitlyn.

When in the lodge and presented with the choice of beam or window, if Kaitlyn does not make a choice, the werewolf will come up the stairs and grab Kaitlyn by the throat and smash her into the ground, bite into her, then drop her.

The death itself is the same animation you can get multiple ways throughout this sequence. In this version, Kaitlyn deserves the death–afterall, what do you expect to happen to you if you stand still in the middle of a room, doing nothing, when you were just being chased by a werewolf?

Death 7: Dying from a Fall? Really?

Dying from a second(ish) story fall? Really?

When in the lodge and presented with the choice of beam or window, if Kaitlyn chooses beam, but does not smash the buttons, and misses the QTE, then she falls off the beam, dying from the fall.

This death scene is satisfying for the variety it provides. Most of the deaths in this sequence are caused by Caleb choking, smashing, biting, etc. Kaitlyn. So the fact that Kaitlyn dies in a different way provides some satisfaction.

Death 8: What a Throw

Guess werewolf Caleb really wants to play ball.

When in the lodge and presented with the choice of beam or window, if Kaitlyn chooses the window option, but misses the QTE, the werewolf tackles her out the window, then grabs her by the throat, then smashes her into the ground and chucks her across the roof.

This death is more satisfying than some of the others in this sequence, because she is tackled out of the window and then smashed into the ground and violently thrown across the roof. The overkill and change of scenery (albeit brief) provide some satisfaction.

Death 9: If You’re Gonna Hide, You Better Hold Your Breath

You couldn't have held your breath a little longer Kaitlyn?

When presented with the option to run or hide, if Kaitlyn chooses to hide, but fails to hold her breath, the werewolf will catch her and smash her into the ground repeatedly, takes bites out of her, and drops her to the ground.

The death animation is the same as many other possible deaths in this section, so that in itself is not incredibly satisfying. It is also a bit frustrating that if Kaitlyn just held her breath a bit longer, she would have survived. Not a very satisfying death scene.

Death 10: If You’re Gonna Hide, You Better Hold Your Breath Part 2

How many times do I have to say it--if you're gonna hide, you better be able to hold your breath.

When Kaitlyn and Dylan hide in the kitchen, if she does not hold her breath, the werewolf will smack her head, knocking her over, lift her by the throat, then smash her into the wall and ground

Exactly the same as Death 10, just in a different part of the lodge. The death animation is the same as many other possible deaths in this section, so that in itself is not incredibly satisfying. It is also a bit frustrating that if Kaitlyn just held her breath a bit longer, she would have survived.

Death 11: That’s Cold

Now that's a cold way to go.

This death scene is satisfying for the variety it provides. Most of the deaths in this sequence are caused by Caleb choking, smashing, biting, etc. Kaitlyn. Also a bit ironic, since staying in the freezer does protect her from Caleb, but causes her to die. In other words, what saves her is also what kills her.

Death 12: Don’t Run in the Kitchen

Didn't your parents ever tell you not to run in the house?

When Kaitlyn and Dylan hide in the kitchen, Kaitlyn has the option to run or hide in the freezer. If she chooses to run, the werewolf will slap Kaitlyn so hard she flies across the room, lifts her by the throat, then smashes her into the wall and ground.

The death animation is the same as many other possible deaths in this section, so that in itself is not incredibly satisfying.

Death 13: No Choice Again? Haven’t We Learned Our Lesson Yet?

Always make a choice.

When Kaitlyn and Dylan hide in the kitchen, Kaitlyn has the option to run or hide in the freezer. If she chooses nothing, the werewolf will walk around the corner, knocking her over, lift her by the throat, then smash her into the wall and ground.

The death animation is the same as many other possible deaths in this section, so that in itself is not incredibly satisfying.

Death 14: If A Werewolf’s A-Charging, You Best Be A-Shooting

Indecision kills again.

When in the lodge downstairs, as the werewolf comes charging towards Kaitlyn, if she does not shoot or misses the shot (and was not infected with the werewolf infection earlier), he will kill her.

What else did she expect? If a werewolf is charging at you, you better use the gun you have and shoot it!

Death 15: If You’re Gonna Lock a Werewolf In a Freezer, Close the Door

At least they can both vibe to Ice-Ice Baby?

When Kaitlyn and Dylan hide in the kitchen, Kaitlyn has the option to run or hide in the freezer. If she chooses to hide in the freezer, she will then be presented with the option to hide or use a decoy. If she chooses to use a decoy, but fails the subsequent QTE, the werewolf will pull Kaitlyn into the freezer with him, trapping them inside, where he will kill her.

This death is rather satisfying for a couple reasons: one, it provides variety–there are so many similar deaths in this section that this is a breath of fresh air. It is also satisfying that Kaitlyn nearly traps Caleb, protecting herself and Dylan, but then gets pulled into the freezer, where she is killed. Also a bit satisfying in the sense that Caleb (if Silas is killed and the curse is lifted) will also die in that freezer (albeit from freezing to death). So at least her death was not in vain.

Ryan Erzahler

For someone who loves true crime and the supernatural, you don't seem too happy about experiencing it yourself.

Ryan is an incredibly introverted, socially awkward intellectual who loves podcasts and has been coming to Hackett's Quarry Summer Camp for years. He looks up to Chris as a father figure, but struggles to communicate with most of his peers. However, this may change as the night progresses…

Death 1: Shotgun Through the Face

And so the father kills the son.

When Chris attacks the Hackett house in his werewolf form, Ryan is given the choice to shoot him or not. If he misses the shot or hesitates to shoot, Chris will pounce on him and jam the shotgun through his face.

This death is somewhat satisfying, particularly considering the relationship between Ryan and Chris. Ryan views Chris as a father figure, which is why it is so difficult for him to pull the trigger; however, in his werewolf form, Chris’s only drive is to eat and kill. It should be noted that the manner of his death is incredibly brutal as well. As such, the brutality paired with the emotional turmoil of this stand-off makes for a satisfying death.

Death 2: Ryan Shoots Laura and Gets Instant Payback

You deserve this one Ryan. Why on Earth would have chosen to shoot Laura first?

When Chris attacks the Hackett house in his werewolf form, Ryan is given the choice to shoot him or not. If he instead shoots Laura in her werewolf form, Chris will pounce on him and jam the shotgun through his face.

This death is less satisfying, and frankly quite odd. His choice to shoot Laura protects Travis…but for how long? Regardless, the shotgun through the face is a bit more justifiable in this version.

Death 3: Ryan Does Not Stand His Ground

He just stabbed your friend to death and you do nothing?

If Laura chose to shoot Travis in Chapter 7, Travis will murder her and then charge towards Ryan. If Ryan chooses to be diplomatic and then misses the QTE, Travis will be able to take the shotgun from Ryan and shoot him in the face.

This is not incredibly satisfying, because if Ryan simply stood his ground and grew the courage to shoot Travis—who he just watched violently murder Laura–he would live.

Death 4: Blood Loss

Ryan finally stood his ground...and then died from blood loss a second later.

If Laura chose to shoot Travis in Chapter 7, Travis will murder her and then charge towards Ryan. If Ryan chooses to be aggressive and successfully hits the QTE, he will be given the choice to shoot Travis. If he shoots Travis in the face, then he will die from blood loss.

Death 5: If You’re Gonna Stand Your Ground, Stick With It

Just shoot him Ryan!

If Laura chose to shoot Travis in Chapter 7, Travis will murder her and then charge towards Ryan. If Ryan chooses to be aggressive and successfully hits the QTE, he will be given the choice to shoot Travis. If he does not shoot Travis, Travis will take the gun from him and shoot Ryan in the face.

At least Ryan stands his ground a bit, but his inaction is what ultimately kills him, and that is frustrating.

Death 6: Blood Loss Part 2

I guess you did lose a lot of blood, huh, Ryan.

After shooting Chris, Ryan dies from blood loss (due to pulling out the knife that Bobby had stabbed him with earlier).

This is one of the absolute worst deaths in the game. Coming from the perspective of a player, we are frustrated that after successfully saving himself from Travis, he just dies from–what first appears to be–nothing. The only upside is the fact that Ryan shoots Chris in this version, so Laura is transformed back into a human and can potentially work with Travis to end the curse once and for all.

Death 7: Fatal Car Crash

I wonder if car insurance covers crashes caused by werewolves decapitating the driver.

While riding with Ryan and Travis, if Laura fails the QTE when Silas reaches his hand through the roof of the car, Travis’s head will get ripped off, causing the car to crash, killing Ryan on impact.

This death scene is great for the overall emotional turmoil and tense nature of the situation, but it is frustrating that we do not find out that Ryan is dead until the end credits. If Laura tried to wake Ryan first, only to realize he is dead, before she crawled out, then the scene would be even better.

Death 8: Really Laura?

Talk about a painful way to go...

Upon finding Silas’ nest, if Laura hesitates and then struggles with Travis for the shotgun, Travis will get injured. Then if she fails to shoot Silas, Silas will attack Travis and then Ryan, ripping off his jaw and some of his intestines.

The gore alone makes this death scene satisfying. However, it is a bit frustrating that Laura, who essentially triggered the events of Ryan’s death, does not die in this version.

Death 9: Silas Kills the Trio

Wow! Silas really had it out for Ryan!

Laura initially raises the gun to shoot Silas, but then hesitates and Silas begins to wake up. Silas slaps Travis's head off, then slaps Laura’s head off, and lastly, rips off the bottom of Ryan’s jaw and eats his intestines.

The gore alone makes this death scene satisfying. The fact that all three die is also satisfying. At least they all went out together, right?

Laura Kearney

Laura Croft, I mean Kearney.

Laura is an intelligent, curious, resourceful veterinarian student who proves that she has an inner strength that rivals the strongest people in the world. When she sets her mind to something, she will stop at nothing to achieve it.

Death 1: Way to Hold a Grudge Travis

Some people really can hold a grudge.

If Laura chose to shoot Travis in Chapter 7, then when Ryan shoots Crhis and Laura turns back into a human, Travis will stab her repeatedly until death.

This scene is satisfying in the sense that you see how your earlier violent actions (although justified in the context of the situation) do have consequences. The only con is that Laura has no opportunity to fight back and save her life–if she shoots Travis in Chapter 7, he will kill her in this scene.

Death 2: Mutually Assured Destruction

At least Laura does not go down without a fight.

If Ryan does not shoot Chris or Laura in werewolf form, Travis will stab Laura with a silver-plated mirror, while she kills him, which causes her to die as well (from the silver).

This scene is satisfying in the sense that Travis and Laura kill each other. The epitome of “if I’m going down, I’m taking you with me”.

Death 3: Really Ryan?

At least Ryan dies too.

When given the choice to shoot Chris in his werewolf form, Ryan spins towards Travis and Laura and shoots Laura instead, killing her with a silver bullet.

Not satisfying at all. This choice (which the player would have to go out of there to make), benefits no one.

Death 4: If You Survive the Crash, You Better Grab that Gun

Come on Laura, grab the gun!

After Silas attacks the car and the car crashes, Laura crawls out of the car. If she fails to reach the gun in time, Silas will grab her by the throat and break her neck, by twisting her head nearly 180 degrees and chowing down.

This scene is somewhat satisfying in its emotional turmoil–a fatal car crash with the small potential to still kill Silas. However, the fact that she dies without shooting Silas is disappointing. However, the fact that twists her neck and then chows down is a bit satisfying to watch.

Death 5: If You Get the Gun, You Better Use It

So close to ending the curse.

After Silas attacks the car and the car crashes, Laura crawls out of the car. If she gets the gun, but fails the QTE, Silas will smack the gun out of her hands and bite out the back of her neck.

This scene is somewhat satisfying in its emotional turmoil–a fatal car crash with the small potential to still kill Silas. However, the fact that she dies without shooting Silas is disappointing.

Death 6: Save the Day With Your Dying Breath

Now this is a way to go out!

After Silas attacks the car and the car crashes, Laura crawls out of the car. If she gets the gun, and hits the QTE, she will kill Silas, but she also dies from the traumatic impact of the car crash.

Out of all the car crash-related deaths she can suffer, this is by far the most satisfying, for she is able to kill Silas with her dying breath. Talk about drama!

Death 7: Well Maybe You Should Have Shot Silas First

Shoot Silas, not Travis!

Upon finding Silas’s nest, if Laura hesitates to shoot him and successfully dodges Travis’s attempts to steal the gun, then she has the option to shoot Travis, Silas, or no one. If she shoots Travis, then Silas will swiftly jump out and swipe her head off.

This death is satisfying in the sense that Laura deserves to die if she acts in this way. However, it is frustrating to watch, knowing that she could have ended the curse and survived if she had simply shot Silas instead of Travis.

Death 8: Jedediah Shoots Laura

Come on Laura, shouldn't you be able to dodge with your werewolf senses?

After Laura accidentally kills Constance Hackett, Jedediah decides to get revenge by shooting Laura in the head.

This death is somewhat satisfying in the sense that as an objective audience member, Jedediah is getting revenge for the death of his wife. However, as the player, this death is not satisfying at all, because if Laura simply dodged to the side, she would have survived the shot.

Death 9: Constance Shoots Laura

Don't lie, you laughed too.

Laura does not accidentally kill Constance, so the Hacketts argue about what to do with her. When Bobby brings Ryan up from the basement, Laura decides to distract rather than run; this distraction involves making odd high-pitched annoying sounds. Ryan gets stabbed, but is able to run away. Laura chooses to continue making the sound and not spit in Constance’s face, which leads Constance to shoot Laura in the head for being so obnoxious.

This is probably the funniest death in the entire game. The sound that Laura makes as a distraction is absolutely bizarre, and incredibly annoying. Constance’s response to shoot Laura in the face when she continues making the sound is quite humorous.

Death 10: Silas Kills the Trio

Don't hesitate to shoot or you might get you and your friends killed.

The gore alone makes this death scene satisfying. I mean, talk about overkill–jaw ripped off and intestines ripped out while alive?! The fact that all three die is also satisfying. At least they all went out together, right?

Max Brinly

What can be said about Max? He is dating Laura. That's about the only interesting thing about him.

Max is a self-proclaimed jokester who rationalizes every situation. Afraid to break the rules, will Max have the guts to survive the night?

Death: Guess You Should’ve Stayed on the Island

To be fair, how was he supposed to know that he would insta-die if he returned to the mainland?

If Max is turned back into a human, he will have the option to stay on the island or swim to shore. If he swims to shore, he will immediately be killed by werewolf Caleb biting out the back of his neck.

This death scene was incredibly frustrating, at least from my initial playthrough. The fact that one simple choice–influenced by the thought that this choice will allow you to reconvene and potentially help the other characters–ends in immediate death (no QTEs or button mashing to save you here) was incredibly frustrating if you are not expecting it. The fact that this is the only way Max can die in the game is also a bit disappointing.

Side Characters

Kaylee Hackett

The baby of the hackett family is also the first to die.

Kaylee is seen as the baby of the Hackett family. She is the one who started the fire at the Harum Scarum traveling circus. Although her intentions were good–she wanted to free Silas, who she perceived as a child being exploited and mistreated for entertainment–the fire ended up causing immense damage, loss, and spreading the werewolf curse.

Death: Killed by Silver Bullet

Point 1 for the werewolf hunter.

Laura chases Kaylee through the camp and shoots her with a silver bullet. Her body is found in its human form in the pool by Kaitlyn, Ryan, Nick, and Abigail. This is the only death that cannot be prevented. This is a scripted part of the story.

Although we do not actually see her die, this death scene is rather satisfying. As the player, we suddenly hear a gunshot go off and following the noise, find a pool of blood in the nearby pool. Kaylee’s body suddenly pops up, adding to the dramatic tension of the scene. This is also the first death that the characters confront head-on, making it significant in that way.

Caleb Hackett

He's had quite a night.

Caleb is one of the babies of the Hackett family. He, like his sister, is infected with the werewolf curse, which has caused him to become quite introverted.

Death 1: Kaitlyn Shoots Caleb with Silver Bullet

Don't bring a werewolf to a silver bullet fight.

Kaitlyn shoots werewolf Caleb with a silver bullet, killing him.

This death is fairly satisfying, as Kaitlyn rightfully shoots the werewolf charging towards her. Doing so protects Kaitlyn and Dylan. Plus, unlike Caleb’s other possible death, we actually see him die in this scene.

Death 2: Caleb Freezes to Death

Ice-ice baby.

Kaitlyn throws a decoy teddy bear into the freezer, drawing Caleb (in his werewolf form) into the freezer, where Kaitlyn locks him in. Because Laura was able to kill Silas, everyone infected (including Caleb) was returned to their human form. In his human form, Caleb was trapped in the freezer until late the next day, so he froze to death.

Kaitlyn’s tactic to trap werewolf Caleb in the freezer is satisfying, however his actual death is not very satisfying, for we do not even know he dies until we see it in the credits.

Constance Hackett

Don't mess with this mama bear--she's got claws! (Or rather, bullets).

The matriarch of the Hackett family, Constance is the true ruling force. Her love for her family surpasses anything else in her world. She will go to the ends of the earth to protect her family, no matter who she has to hurt to do so.

Death 1: Whoops

This is why gun safety is important...

When struggling with Laura for the shotgun, if Laura successfully mashes the X/A button, the shotgun will accidentally go off, blowing Constance’s face off.

What a fantastic death scene. This death comes quite unexpectedly–the player is simply trying to protect Laura. The incredibly graphic portrayal of Constance getting shot in the face is not only shocking, but satisfying and accurate. The fact that Laura is outnumbered by Constance’s family in the room also adds to the tension of the scene.

Death 2: Family Can Be Violent

A violent end from her favorite son.

If Constance does not die during the interaction with Laura, when Chris comes by later in his werewolf form, he will attack her, slicing her chest open and throwing her against the wall.

This death is fairly satisfying as well. Constance spends her entire life trying to protect her family, even if it means innocent people die in the process, only for one of her family members to kill her.

Jedediah Hackett

This papa bear is not as violent as his wife, but he will whatever he needs to in order to protect his family.

The patriarch of the Hackett family, Jedediah tries to help maintain order in his family. He loves all of his family, but none more than his wife Constance.

Death 1: Choked Out by Laura

Maybe don't try to fight a werewolf at close range?

Laura can choose to attack or run from Jedediah. If she chooses to attack and successfully smashes the X/A button, she will strangle him hard enough to break his neck.

This death scene is quite satisfying. Laura has been put through the ringer because of the Hackett family–she was imprisoned, not told why, had to watch her boyfriend transform into a werewolf, and had her eye clawed out by her boyfriend. She has had enough. And she takes it out on Jedediah in this scene. Can we really blame her?

Death 2: Family Can Be Violent Part 2

A shockingly brutal end at the hands of his son.

After killing Constance, Chris will grab Jedediah and smash his face into the mantelpiece.

Another satisfying death scene. Like Constance, Jedediah has put his family first, putting innocent civilians at risk, only for his family to kill him in an incredibly brutal way.

Bobby Hackett

His face says it all--anger and confusion are his two main emotions.

Bobby is the muscle–and certainly not the brains–of the Hackett family…his mentality and dependence on his parents is quite child-like. However, that doesn’t mean you should underestimate the danger he poses. Afterall, he stabs Ryan in the ribs, as if it were the most casual thing in the world.

Death: Family Can Be Violent Part 3

Brother vs. brother...to the death!

If Bobby was injured earlier (stabbed by Ryan, with the very knife Bobby had used to stab Ryan), he will not be able to hold off Chris in his werewolf form, so Chris rips his throat out.

This death is somewhat satisfying due to the irony of the fact that, like the other Hacketts, Bobby has committed crimes and hurt people to protect his family’s secret, and yet the very secret they are trying to protect (the werewolf curse that afflicts Chris, Kaylee, and Caleb) is what kills him in this moment.

Travis Hackett

You can tell he's had enough.

Travis is the black sheep of the Hackett family. He struggles balancing his loyalty to his family with his sense of duty towards legal justice that he took an oath to uphold when he became a police officer. He comes off as quite cold and unnerving, but he is simply trying to protect civilians without revealing the supernatural and complicated nature of the curse of Hackett's Quarry.

Death 1: If I’m Going Down, I’m Taking You With Me

Fight to the death!

If Ryan does not shoot Chris in his werewolf form, Laura will not transform back into her human form. As a result, while Laura is attacking Travis, although he stabs her with a silver-plated mirror piece, she strikes his head so hard, she decapitates him.

This death scene is quite satisfying. There is something poetic about the fact that Travis and Laura die because of one another. On top of that, for Travis, it is even more satisfying, as he resourcefully uses the silver-plated mirror shards, which he knows will be lethal towards Laura in her werewolf form. Furthermore, Travis refuses to give up without a fight. He fights until the end, which is incredibly satisfying.

Death 2: Shotgun to the Face is Fair Consequence for Stabbing Ryan’s Friend to Death

What else did you expect Ryan to do?

If Laura chooses to shoot Travis in Chapter 7, Travis will repeatedly stab Laura to death later on. When he does this, Ryan threatens him to stay back, but then Travis charges at Ryan. Ryan then shoots Travis in the face, blowing most of his face off.

This death scene is rather satisfying. Travis is able to get his revenge and unleash his rage on Laura, but he faces comparable consequences. Plus, who doesn’t love a little shotgun vs. face gore?

Death 3: Don’t Threaten to Imprison Laura Yet Again

Shotgun vs. Travis's face...who will win?

After Ryan shoots werewolf Chris, Laura returns to her human form. Travis says he can’t let her go, so they fight for the shotgun. If Laura is able to get the gun, she can choose to shoot Travis in the face.

This death is not the most satisfying (if you know the other possible outcomes). However, if you don’t know the other outcomes, it is quite satisfying. From Laura’s perspective, her actions are completely understandable–she has been kidnapped and held prisoner by Travis once, so implying that he may do that again is a no-go. Plus, shotgun vs. face gore is always satisfying.

Death 4: Decapitation of the Driver

Decapitated while driving is certainly a dramatic way to go.

While driving the car with Laura and Ryan inside, Silas attacks the car. If Laura fails the QTE, then Silas rips off Travis’s head.

This scene is fairly satisfying. It is disappointing that the trio are so close to ending the curse, only for them to die. However, in terms of unique deaths, having a werewolf attack your car, while in the middle of driving, and thrust his hand through the roof and rip your head off?! Talk about a dramatic exit.

Death 5: Maybe Don’t Try to Steal a Shotgun While It’s Pointed Near You

What is it with Hacketts and lack of gun safety?

Upon finding Silas’s nest, if Laura hesitates shooting Silas, Travis will try to take the shotgun. If Laura fails the QTE, the shotgun will accidentally go off, causing Travis to get shot in the chest.

This death scene is somewhat satisfying. If Travis did not try to take the shotgun from Laura, he would be alive. So his rash (and possibly arrogant) choice to attempt to overpower Laura, while she is holding a shotgun, results in his own death. If it ain’t the consequences of his own actions.

Death 6: Be Careful What You Say–It Might Get You Killed

Be careful what you say to Laura.

This death scene is somewhat satisfying (albeit, not for Travis). His attempts to overpower Laura prove futile, and then he has the nerve to say he should have killed her when he had the chance? No wonder she chooses to shoot him.

Death 7: Silas Agrees that Travis Should Watch What He Says

Silas can hold a grudge too.

Upon finding Silas’s nest, if Laura hesitates shooting Silas, Travis will try to take the shotgun. If Laura successfully dodges, Travis will fall to the ground next to Silas’s nest. Laura hesitates shooting Travis or Silas, so Silas seizes the opportunity and jumps out, attacking Travis, biting his neck and thrashing to the point of decapitation.

Death 8: Silas Kills the Trio

Well, that didn't go as planned.

The gore alone makes this death scene satisfying. The fact that all three die is also satisfying. At least they all went out together, right?

Chris Hackett

Deputy Dewey? No, camp counselor Chris Hackett.

One of the golden boys of the Hackett family, Chris runs the Hackett's Quarry Summer Camp every year, all while struggling to deal with the fact that he has been afflicted with the werewolf curse.

Death: Ryan Commits Symbolic Patricide

And so the son kills the father.

If Ryan chooses to shoot Chris in his werewolf form, Chris will die.

This death scene is fairly satisfying. The emotional tension with this death is quite profound, given the fact that Ryan–who sees Chris as his father-figure–is the one that has to kill Chris. On top of that, his choice to shoot Chris saves both Laura and Travis’s lives.

Silas Vorez

A face only a mama could love.

Silas is the son of Eliza Vorez. Silas was the Wolf Boy or Dog Boy in the Harum Scarum traveling circus, until Kaylee Hackett set a fire that allowed for Silas to escape and live ferally in the woods.

Death 1: Killed in His Nest

This is just sad...

Upon finding Silas in his nest, Laura chooses to shoot Silas with a silver bullet, killing him.

This death scene is quite sorrowful. Laura and the player realize that Silas is simply an orphaned boy who suffers from this curse. He never chose this. He was safe when he was with his mother, but Kaylee Hackett’s actions (although well-intentioned) caused him to be let loose on the world, living in isolation, without the ability to control his condition. Although it ends the curse, his death–particularly this version where you find him curled up in his old circus cage–is incredibly sad.

Death 2: Car Crash Showdown Proves Fatal

Fatal car crash and mutual death--talk about a dramatic end.

After Silas attacks the car and the car crashes, Laura crawls out of the car. If she gets the gun, and hits the QTE, she will kill Silas, but she also dies from the traumatic impact of the car crash.

This death is more satisfying than the previous death, as Silas is not portrayed in a pitiful position in this scene. There is a greater sense of vindication in his death, as he just ripped off Travis’s head and caused a car crash which killed Ryan, and will soon kill Laura. On top of that, the fact that he and Laura essentially kill one another, adds a layer of drama that makes this scene more satisfying.

Eliza Vorez

This mama bear will do anything necessary to find her Silas.

Eliza is Silas's mother, who was a fortune teller at Harum Scarum's traveling circus until a fire, started by Kaylee Hackett, destroyed the circus and killed most of the circus members. Ever since, her presence has wandered through the woods, wailing for her boy Silas, causing her to be known as “The Hag of Hackett’s Quarry”. She also serves as the narrator who reads the player’s fortune in between chapters, secretly trying to sway the player to kill as many Hacketts as possible and spare Silas.

Death: Impaled While Life is Up in Flames

Thus the Hag of Hackett's Quarry was born.

During the Harum Scarum fire flashback, if Eliza does not move out of the way of the flying metal rod, she is impaled by it.

Talk about drama. Eliza is in shock, walking around as her entire life is literally up in flames, searching desperately for her son, when an explosion causes a random metal rod to shoot through the air and impale her. What a dramatic way to go. Certainly a satisfying death.

With 9 alternating playable characters, in addition to numerous side characters, some of which you interact with consistently, The Quarry has an abundance of characters. After playing through the game, you’ve likely formed some strong opinions on a few characters. But this article will give you an in depth analysis of 10 of the most significant characters’ backgrounds, personalities, and overall presence in the game. After reading this article, you may find yourself intrigued to replay with a focus on different characters–perhaps making different choices to explore their personality further.

Before we begin the ranking from 10 worst to best characters in the game, the character of Nicholas (Nick) Furcillo deserves a shout-out–despite being one of the 9 protagonist, Nick’s presence is short-lived and underwhelming, no matter what choices you make, so like his presence in the game, his presence on this list is sorely lacking.

10. Max Brinly (Worst)

He should've stayed at the motel.

Max attempts to be a carefree comedian, but often comes off as a worrisome robot, without much emotional range–even when communicating with his girlfriend Laura. He is also hiding the fact that he was rejected from the college program he applied to, leaving his future with Laura uncertain.

Max does not have much impact on the outcome of the game–playing as Max, you have a choice that could lead to Max’s death, but otherwise, the impact he has on others is based on choices that they make. His personality is also sub-far. He is rather boring in comparison to any other character, and he never really redeems himself. The combination of his boring personality and the lack of impact he has on the game is why Max is the worst significant character in the game.

9. Abigail Blyg

She will blush if you ask her to draw you like one of her french girls.

Abigail is a shy artist, who can always be found sketching or jotting down ideas in her sketchbook. Her introverted nature makes it difficult for her to form relationships, but as the game progresses, she is able to open herself up and form a romantic relationship with Nick, although, depending on your choices, this relationship may not end well.

Abigail’s shy nature leads her to not have a huge presence in the central storyline of the game. However, she has the option to find silver shells and roll them to Kaitlyn in the midst of a potentially fatal situation. Given the potentially fatal consequences of Abi’s choice in this moment, Abi has a more significant impact on the outcome of at least 2 lives (if she does not shoot Nick earlier on, she will die, which could cause Kaitlyn to die later on as well), This, in conjunction with the fact that Abigail’s personality seems less robotic than Max’s, places her higher than Max on this ranking list.

8. Jacob Custos

Golden retriever energy to an idiotic and deadly degree.

Jacob is a borderline stereotypical narcissistic, overly-enthusiastic jock. His extroverted enthusiasm and persistence can be quite endearing. Although Jacob may seem like the prototypical jock, he had profound emotional concerns, namely in regards to his summer fling Emma.

Although his personality can be obnoxious and cringe-worthy, Jacob’s tenacity and over-the-top chivalry can be endearing at times. On top of that, unlike the previous mentions, Jacob’s actions have a greater impact on the story–after all, if it was not for him sabotaging the van, the events of the main game would never have transpired. Regardless, his cringe-worthy obsession with Emma places him towards the worst of this list.

7. Ryan Erzahler

He even looks like someone who loves to brood in dark corners listening to macabre podcasts.

Ryan is an introverted emo camp counselor who has been coming to Hackett's Quarry for summer camp for years, His macabre interests in paranormal/true crime podcasts, as well as his socially awkward behavior leads most people to see him as weird.

Ryan’s specific knowledge regarding Hackett’s Quarry proves quite useful. He also demonstrates bravery and intelligence as the game progresses, surviving getting stabbed in the ribs and shooting his father-figure Chris (depending on your choices) in order to save others. He also plays a crucial role in working with Laura and Travis to not only solve the mystery of Hackett’s Quarry, but to end the curse once and for all.

6. Travis Hackett

The black sheep of a creepy family--does that cancel out and make him normal?

Travis is the rather creepy sheriff of North Kill (not an ominous name at all), an isolated town primarily run and populated by the Hackett family. His behavior, dialogue, and mannerisms are unsettling to the camp counselors and the player. Regardless, he is dedicated to maintaining order as best he can, while also meeting the needs of his mysterious family.

Travis is the most prominent side character in the game. Our first impression of him leaves us on edge and suspicious. It does not help that he proceeds to kidnap and lock up Laura and Max without any explanation. A lot of tension, confusion, and danger could have been avoided if Travis had simply been honest with Max and Kaura from the start. However, he redeems himself (depending on the choices Laura makes while in the jail cell) by working with Laura and Ryan to put an end to the horrific curse that is plaguing Hackett’s Quarry. His character becomes more complex–and therefore interesting–as you realize that Travis is the black sheep of the family, for he tries to maintain the balance between doing what is just as a sheriff and appeasing his family’s desires.

5. Emma Mountebank

Is the curtain calling or will she survive for another show?

Emma is a vibrant socialite fixated on her aspirations of becoming a social media influencer. She is known to pull out her phone to document nearly all her thoughts and experiences, even when it puts her in danger–for instance, a monster attacking her (talk about viral content)! Her ambitions drive her more than anything, which Jacob (her summer fling who wants to have a long distance relationship) is not too happy about.

On the surface, Emma may seem like a shallow wannabe influencer, but she demonstrates compassion, perseverance, and admirable ambition. She knows what she wants and she will not let anything get in the way of her reaching her dreams. As the game progresses, Emma proves that she has the capacity (depending on the choices you make) to be a resourceful, persistent, survivor that is more than capable to fight off and escape the monsters (werewolves) chasing her, making her an even more intriguing and enjoyable character.

4. Kaitlyn Ka

Yes she loves to party, but she also wants to make it to tomorrow, so if she tells you to do something, maybe listen?

Kaitlyn is a witty, responsible, party girl who flourishes when she makes everyone around her comfortable and positive. Her combined go-with-the-flow attitude and reasonable sense-making nature lead her to take up the role as unofficial leader of the group. However, she has more to her than meets the eye, as Jacob and Ryan found out during their amateur shooting competition.

Kaitlyn is the refreshing sense-of-reason in the group. However, this does not make her any less fun. She proves she can still joke around and party with the best of them, without giving up her de facto role as the leader of the group. Her leadership skills and rationality also help quell potential chaos during intense situations.

3. Dylan Lenivy

Will jokingly lock you out of the lodge, but will also jump in front of a werewolf in order to save your life.

Dylan is a slightly odd, witty, sarcastic member of the group, who loves to be the center of attention. At the camp he was the radio host via the camp’s PA system. Dylan portrays himself as an extroverted edgy jokester that brings levity to any situation. However, the sarcasm and jokes are mainly the exterior of his persona, the core of which he only reveals to those he trusts deeply.

Dylan is a breath of fresh air in otherwise tense or socially awkward situations. On top of that, Dylan is incredibly brave–when he gets bitten by a werewolf in the radio shack, he tells Ryan to cut off the part of his arm that was bitten, in order to prevent the infection from spreading. This was also before most of the counselors (save Max and Laura) knew about the specifics of the curse/infection, meaning not only was Dylan incredibly brave for suggesting this, but intelligent for thinking of this as a solution. On top of that, if you choose to let him get his arm cut off, he does not lose any of his sarcastic spunk, truly highlighting his bravery and pizazz. To add to the intrigue and likeability of his character, Dylan proves to be selfless, as he has numerous deaths which involve him sacrificing himself in order to protect others.

2. Eliza Vorez

A mama bear that will do anything to protect her cub.

Eliza Vorez was a fortune teller traveling with the Harum Scarum circus–or as the locals referred to it, freak show. While the show was near Hacketts Quarry, Kaylee Hackett caused a fire to try to free Eliza’s son Silas, whose stage name was the wolf boy. However, the fire spread rapidly, causing immense damage and separating Silas from Eliza. Eliza’s presence came to be called the Hag of Hackett’s Quarry, as she would wail for her lost boy, Silas. As the player, we do not learn her full background until we are very far into the game. To the player, Eliza appears as a ghostly form in the prologue and as the overarching narrator who performs tarot readings for the player in between chapters.

Her character is fascinating and deceiving. In our earlier interactions, it seems as if Eliza is there to help provide us with clues for our potential futures. However, as the game progresses and more of the story of Hackett’s Quarry is pieced together, we begin to realize that Eliza has ulterior motives. Close to the end of the game, we realize that Eliza has been trying to manipulate us the entire game in order to get her revenge on the Hackett family and protect her son Silas. Although this makes her an overarching antagonist, the situation and her character are complex, making her far more interesting and valuable to the story than many of the playable characters.

1. Laura Kearney (Best)

Laura Croft 2.0, is that you?

Laura is an adaptable and perpetually curious veterinarian student, who came to Hackett’s Quarry to spend more time with her loving boyfriend Max. However, her curious nature ends up putting her and Max in a dangerous situation that exposes them to the curse of Hackett’s Quarry. Nevertheless, Laura’s adaptability and perseverance shine through as she works to piece together and put an end to the mystery of Hackett’s Quarry. She is certainly never the one to back down from a challenge.

Consider Laura Kearney to be Laura Croft's American cousin. Laura Kearney is intelligent, curious, brave, and incredibly resourceful, with the brains and brawn to survive any situation. She, without a doubt, has the best character arc in the game. Starting out as a happy-go-lucky prospective camp counselor, Laura becomes a one-eyed werewolf hunter, who is willing to go to any lengths (killing the Hacketts and risking her own life) to end the werewolf curse, only in a matter of months.

On top of that, Laura has the greatest impact on the overall storyline out of any character–her choices interacting with Travis determine whether or not the counselors will be able to piece together the mystery of Hackett’s Quarry; it is also up to Laura whether or not to kill the White Wolf and end the curse, curing all those infected, once and for all.

The Perfect Ending Epilogue + Extended Credit Sequence

This ending is referred to as the "Perfect Ending" or "True Ending" by many gamers. This ending successfully ends the Hackett Quarry curse, curing all those infected throughout the night. This ending also minimizes the number of deaths. On top of that, finding all the evidence unlocks an epilogue in which all the teens are exonerated of the murders of Kaylee, Chris, and Silas.

Finally some accurate news coverage!

This ending is by far the most satisfying as a player—this is the ending that saves the most lives and ends the curse of Hackett's Quarry.

On top of that, by collecting all the evidence, you ensure that all the camp counselors are exonerated from the murders of Chris Hackett, Silas, and Kaylee Hackett.

Find All Evidence

Chapter 1:

Van Outside Camp—Jacob must steal the rotor arm in order for the evidence in Chapter 3 to present itself.
Camp Cabins–Empty Vial
- After exploring the cabin, Abigail will find an empty vial when searching the large tree trunk.*
  - *If you miss this in Chapter 1, you can find it as Dylan in Chapter 5

Chapter 2: Store Rooms–Torn Bags

While exploring the General Store for party supplies, Jacob will help Emma open the locked room at the back of the storage area. Here, Emma will find two torn-up hiking bags covered in dried blood.

Chapter 3: Boathouse–Bloated Corpse

*If Jacob removed the rotor arm in Chapter 1, he will have the choice after swimming in the lake to either retrieve the rotor arm from the lake or run to Abigail after hearing her scream.
Choose to retrieve the rotor arm and Jacob will dive into the water. Once in the water, choose the option to grab the rotor arm.
Despite almost dying, Jacob will uncover a piece of evidence–the bloated corpse at the bottom of the lake.

Chapter 4: Treehouse–Attack Photo

After reaching the treehouse, have Emma search the bag on the floor BEFORE investigating the trapdoor. Inside is a can of mace, a taser, and a change of clothes.
After changing, Emma will open the trapdoor, where the mysterious creature (werewolf) will pop out. When Emma is about to tase the creature, she will have the option to snap a quick photo–take the photo.

Chapter 5: Camp Cabins–Claw Marks

Before going inside the radio shack, investigate the large claw marks on the wall next to the door.

Chapter 6: Hackett Woods–Memory Card

As Jacob, head up the wooden walkway and follow the path until you come across a large footprint.
Follow the path to the right and you will find an old broken camera on the floor.
Jacob will remove the camera’s memory card.

Chapter 7: Sheriff’s Office–Cease & Desist Letter

While exploring the Sheriff’s Office as Laura, go towards Travis Hackett’s office in the top right of the station.
Before going inside the room, there will be a printer against the wall, opposite the room.
If you investigate the printer, you will find a cease and desist letter, telling the “Bizarre Yet Bonafide” podcast crew to stop their investigations of Hackett’s Quarry.

Chapter 8: Quarry Mines–Scarred Flesh

After picking up “The Lovers” tarot card, head further into the mine.
You will have a short cutscene that shows the metal stairs collapsing.
Follow the path and there will be a catwalk with a red boulder pillar in the middle.
In the left corner, you will discover scarred flesh.

Chapter 9: Hackett House–Kaylee’s Letter

After Ryan hides in the dumbwaiter, he will exit into a bedroom.
Across the room there is a small jewelry box on top of the dresser.
Inside the jewelry box is Kaylee’s letter to her grandma.

Chapter 10: Lodge Attic–Trail Cam Footage

Search the attic on the far side of the lodge. Near the classroom, Kaitlyn will find a cardboard box filled with tapes of trail cam footage.

2. Hackett Family Massacre – The Curse Lifted

Die Hacketts, Die!

In this ending, all of the Hacketts die, and the White Wolf is put down, ending the Hackett Quarry curse for good!

I don't think makeup will cover that!

Although there are more casualties in this ending, the Hacketts are the source of all the mystery and death in the first place. Plus, many of them do not seem too keen on protecting the camp counselors, so one could call this ending the universe dealing out poetic justice. On top of that, the back-to-back deaths in the Hackett house truly add to the emotional turmoil and tenseness of the situation, making it quite entertaining.

3. Laura Kills Silas, but Dies in Car Crash (Martyr Ending) – The Curse Lifted

Martyrdom for the win!

In this ending, while Ryan, Laura, and Travis are driving in search of the White Wolf, they are attacked by the White Wolf aka Silas. After a series of missteps, Silas rips Travis's head off while driving, causing the car to crash, killing Ryan on impact. Laura crawls out of the wreck and uses her dying breath to grab the gun and shoot Silas, ending the Hackett Quarry curse with her dying breath.

Hurry and shoot him Laura!

Despite the death of two playable characters, there is something quite satisfying about Laura's martyrdom. All her pain, frustration, and effort pay off for she single handedly ends the curse of Hackett's Quarry with her dying breath.

Car Crash

When you make it to the car ride with Ryan, Laura, and Travis, miss the first QTE when Silas attacks the car > when Laura wakes up, choose the option "grab gun" instead of "take cover" > miss the next QTE > the car will crash and Travis and Ryan will both be dead > when Laura awakes and you're presented with a QTE to grab gun, successfully hit that QTE—-this will allow Laura to shoot Silas with her dying breath

4. Laura Hesitates and Kills Travis and Silas – The Curse Lifted

Travis's impatience is what gets him killed.

In this ending, after finding the White Wolf's den (the trailer he was put in when he was paraded around as "Silas the Wolf Boy"), Laura has second thoughts about killing him. After hesitating, Travis tries to grab the gun, but the gun goes off, killing Travis. As Travis dies, Laura decides to shoot Silas, before he can attack her or Ryan, thereby ending the Hackett Quarry curse.

Uh-oh! Dylan doesn't look so hot.

This ending allows the curse of Hackett’s Quarry to not only live on, but flourish. Plus, who doesn't love a little werewolf chaos?

Nick Infected

While hanging out with Abigail, Nick will be attacked by a creature (werewolf) and unknowingly become infected–this is a scripted part of the story

As Abigail, help Nick > up > run > smash X/A > don’t “climb tree” > fail breath event = Abigail is bitten and infected

Preparation for Jacob Infection

As Jacob, press X/A to “throw dirt” at the hunter when prompted > this results in the hunter not “blooding” him so that Jacob gets bitten by the werewolf in Chapter 6

Emma Infected

As Emma in the treehouse, search bag > use taser > take photo > down > smash X/A > spray > up > up > block door > use trapdoor > down > fail QTE > up > emma bitten and infected

Dylan Stays Infected

After Dylan gets bitten > choose “terrified” > and DO NOT cut off his hand > this will cause Dylan to stay infected

6. (Almost) Everyone Dies

Die, die, die!

In this ending, every character but Travis, Caleb, and Silas die. With only two Hackett family members and a feral Wolf Boy left alive, no one remains to tell the true story of what happened during the Massacre of Hackett's Quarry!

R.I.P. Kaitlyn (and almost everyone else).

While this ending is generally considered the "Worst Ending," there is something to be said about being able to make every specific choice causing as many deaths as possible. It's not as easy as you may think.

Plus, if you've had your fill trying to save as many lives as possible, why not give this ending a go?

7. Nobody Survives the Car Crash – Silas Lives – The Curse Remains

And so the Curse of Hackett's Quarry lives! Who will be afflicted next?

In this ending, while Ryan, Laura, and Travis are driving in search of the White Wolf, they are attacked by the White Wolf aka Silas. After a series of missteps, Silas rips Travis's head off while driving, causing the car to crash, which also results in Ryan's death. Laura crawls out of the wreck and tries to get the gun, but is unsuccessful. As a result, Silas kills Laura and the curse remains.

The White Wolf lives to see another day!

While this may seem like a "bad ending," there is something to be said about the dramatic irony that plays out. Travis, Ryan, and Laura were so close to piecing together the mystery of Hackett's Quarry, only for the Hackett family's darkest secret (the fire set to free Silas, which set off the chain of events which caused this very curse) to silence them…and of course the player.

Car Crash–Curse Remains

When you make it to the Car ride with Ryan, Laura, and Travis, miss the first QTE when Silas attacks the car > when Laura wakes up, choose the option "grab gun" instead of "take cover" > fail next QTE > the car will crash and Travis and Ryan will both be dead > when Laura awakes and you're presented with a QTE to grab gun, fail it

8. Mutually Assured: Travis & Laura Kill Each Other – The Curse Remains

At least neither one went down without a fight!

In this ending, during Chris's attack on Ryan and Laura in the Hackett house, Ryan misses his shot, which not only results in his death, but causes Laura to stay in her werewolf form. As a result, Laura attacks Travis and Travis uses a silver-backed mirror to stab Laura, resulting in both of their deaths.

If I'm going down, I'm taking you with me!

Although the curse remains and Laura and Travis do not live through the night, the majority of the characters survive and the added tension of Laura and Travis's avoidable deaths adds to the emotional climax of the ending.

There is also something poetic about this ending: "If I'm going down, I'm taking you down with me mentality".

Ryan Does Not Shoot Chris

When in the Hackett house as Ryan, hesitate shooting the werewolf > this will cause Ryan to die and prevent Laura from turning back into a human, causing her to attack Travis > Travis will simultaneously stab Laura with a silver-backed mirror

9. Final Girl Ending-Only Kaitlyn Survives

At least one counselor survived the night!

In this ending, Kaitlyn is the only surviving camp counselor.

Look at all that blood--fitting for a final girl!

Who doesn't love a final girl? An homage to the horror trope, this ending makes the player feel as if they are living out their own favorite horror film–move aside Laurie Strode, here comes Kaitlyn Ka!

Preparation for Killing Caleb Without Silver Bullets

As Abigail, choose to break into locked cabin > pick up teddy > choose “keep” *this is needed to save Kaitlyn in Chapter 10 to lure the monster into the freezer

Kaitlyn Survives the Night

As Kaitlyn, run > beam > smash X/A > run > hold breath > freezer > use decoy > smash X/A > Caleb will be lured into the freezer > Kaitlyn will survive the night

10. The Last Man Standing-Only Ryan Survives

Ryan has been attending Hackett's Quarry the longest, so it's only fair that he be the last man standing.

In this ending, Ryan is the only camp counselor to survive the night.

I don't know if it's the blood on his face or the look in his eyes, but Ryan fits the appearance of the last man standing after a supernatural massacre!

A fun twist on the final girl horror trope! Although most of the characters die, there is something satisfying about having one person sift through the carnage and trauma of the night–one person alone to tell the true story of what happened at Hackett’s Quarry.

How to Get This Ending:

Your weaponry and clothing will be authentic from this era, but keep in mind that your death could result in the total loss of gear. The bleak, industrial graphics coincide with the natural settings of the time period, so you’ll be fully submerged in the game as a member of 1800s society.

Take your time traversing through this open world; there’s a lot to take in at times because the game is incredibly detailed and created with a delicate hand. Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, and soon-to-be-released The Devil In Me are all part of the series. While each game can be played as a standalone, you’ll have a haunting experience playing just one that'll make you want to play them all. You’ll have fun making decisions that’ll affect the storyline and outcome of the game!

House of Ashes is set at the end of the Iraq War and follows a Special Forces team searching for any lethal weapons remaining in the aftermath. Unfortunately, the team accidentally stumbles upon a temple of supernatural creatures, and it’s your job to eliminate these enemies and escape to civilization. Play multiplayer mode with 1-4 friends to complete objectives and horde off the bloodthirsty beasts that have determined you to be dinner.

If not for the mysterious storyline, Supermassive Games certainly has another hit on their hands for the astounding graphics that’ll make you feel like you’re watching a movie.

The town of Darkwater is calling for your help.

The monsters in this game are more than enough to give it a try. On top of that, the suspense within the game is intoxicating and you’ll get a kick out of venturing around, uncovering new clues and getting to know the town folk.

You’re a child awakening in the night to some peculiar sounds… you’re terrified and want your mommy’s comfort. In my opinion, this is a pretty unique concept for a horror game.

In “Among the Sleep”, you find yourself playing a 2-year child who finds themself roaming around their dark house like it’s some sort of nightmarish hellscape.

Where’s your mom? You need her to comfort you from the things that go bump in the night.

An awesome, but a short-lived game that can be completed in just a few hours. Due to this being an enhanced version of the game the graphics are spectacular. They’ve even gone ahead and added an extra chapter to the game. As well as a multitude of pyjama sets for your character, enhanced puzzles and a way better gameplay experience.

Don’t hesitate before giving this creepily awesome first-person adventure game a whirl.

Also acceptable for introducing some scares to older kids.

The graphics have drastically improved from when I played the game on Android quite a few years back. And there’s been extra rooms, more monsters and a ton more to explore.

Get spooked, collect money bags, hide from dreadful creatures and enjoy the wickedly improved graphics as you play this awesome and affordable game.

21. Tormented Souls

I have to say this game completely blew me out of the water. I had no idea it existed and it's amazing on every level! It must be because I’m a product of the 90s, and love to see a throwback to my era in a horror game …but it truly is a great game.

If you love old-school, horror game techniques involving camera angles, aiming weapons and managing your inventory, then you’ll get a kick out of this N64-reminiscent game.

In “Tormented Souls” you play a young women decked out in perfect 90s grunge clothing and impressively big guns. The monsters are wickedly scary and the storyline is interesting. I don’t know what more you could ask for.

ANY “Friday the 13th” fan will absolutely love this game! While playing you’ll recognize a ton of stuff that you’ve seen throughout the film franchise… his mom in his mask, him coming back from the dead, an awesome tribute to camp crystal lake and so much more.

The fun thing is you’re not as useless as the characters are in the movie. You get to fight back with a variety of weapons and be a heck of a lot braver than those 80s kids were. You can also play as Jason himself… which to me is even more fun.

Have fun with some brutal kills and nostalgic screams, as you and your friends give “Friday the 13th: The Game” a go.

19. Dying Light

“Dying Light” is zombie survival at its finest. Immerse yourself in an open world of gore, combat, zombies and evil humans.

Fight for your life as an undercover agent named, Kyle Krane.

While the storyline isn’t overly riveting, the gameplay is. The game is fast-paced and adrenaline-driven. You have “Assassins Creed” like agility, where you jump from roof to roof, running from and hunting zombies in a parkour-like style.

The zombies are awesome and the humans are ruthless. Don’t forget to get some guts before you give “Dying Light” a go.

Have fun sneaking around and hiding from your neighbor, as you sneak into his house to try and uncover the mystery of what he’s hiding in his decrepit basement. He ends up realizing that you’re onto him and finds various ways to keep you from figuring out what he’s up to via traps and puzzles.

“Hello Neighbor” is a whole lot of fun for anyone and isn’t overly scary. But it has some anticipation and small scares.

In my opinion, is one of the coolest indie horror games that exist for kids

17. Carrion

For some reason, I get a tingly excited feeling whenever I play games that bring me back to the old Nintendo days and vintage gaming in general.

“Carrion” is a Metroid-style game that is played in reverse. It is wickedly horrific and the cool thing is you get to play the monster whose goal is to murder all the civilians in the game.

As the game goes on you evolve and become stronger, as you devour the people and take over your surroundings.

“Carrion” is one of the most unique vintage-style horror games available on the Switch.

16. Stories Untold

(Available on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, macOS, Classic Mac OS and Macintosh)

Take a blast from the past with this 70s and 80s-inspired retro, fear fest. “Stories Untold” is an original narrative experience and horror-adventure game.

It’s a 4 part horror anthology series where you make decisions while solving puzzles and thinking outside the box.

That’s four horrific adventures for the price of one!

If you know the old game “House of Abandon”, one of the four tapes in the game is a remaster of the OG game.

While it isn’t a very high-impact game, it’s full of nostalgia, retro fun and definitely worth the ride.

15. Five Nights at Freddy’s: Core Collection

Creepy animatronic dolls, wonky cameras and strange noises are what give “Five Nights at Freddy’s” the perfect recipe for the teen horror genre. it’s one of the most popular and iconic teen horror games for any platform out there. You can even get a short version of the game on mobile!

Play as the night clerk working at Freddy’s pizza joint. . At night, things get a little strange and the dolls seem to have a mind of their own. Can you survive these 5 nights and make it out alive?

You can utilize surveillance cameras and automatic doors. And don’t forget you run out of power easily…so use it sparingly

If you’re planning to play with young teens, just know that there are a ton of jumpscares and a decent amount of frights. But there's blood or gore.

“Bendy and the Ink Machine” is another unique and original horror game that has gained a lot of popularity over the years. It has the old-fashioned rubber-nose cartoon style of the 1930s. Reminiscent of cartoons like “Mickey Mouse”, “Betty Boop”, or more recently “Cuphead”.

It’s a first-person adventure, a puzzle-solving game, that’ll bring you into an abandoned animator’s fortress. Can you escape the mad animator before you meet your demise? Solve the puzzles and hold your breath, as there’s something to give you a thrill around every corner!

“Bendy and the Ink Machine” is another really fun game to play with your older kid or teenager. What’s better than sharing some heebie-jeebies with the family?

Its classic storyline, unique graphics and super fun gameplay give “Limbo” the perfect formula for some action-packed fun.

This game truly does the platform, horror genre in a wonderfully ominous way.

11. Outlast

“Outlast” is a high-octane survival game at its finest. You’re guaranteed to be filled with adrenaline-fueled anxiety and get some serious jump scares. I wouldn’t play this one in public…someone might see you scream.

You play as Mike Upshur who has decided to investigate the grounds of an abandoned Asylum. The basic concept of the game hides and seek and no combat… if you try you’ll be destroyed immediately by the various creatures and enemies that walk the grounds.

The storyline goes pretty far and there are a lot of different characters and terrifying monsters to meet. If you wanna be filled with anxious fear, then you’ll have a blast!

10. Darkwood

“Darkwood” is a super fun and creepy, dark adventure that’ll keep you entertained for hours.

Can you finish the piece of art before you go mad yourself?

If you love psychological horror and trying to figure out how the mind of a psychopath works, then I can guarantee you’ll love exploring the victorian-era world in “Layers of Fear: Legacy”.

8. Inside

“Inside” is a monochromatic, dystopian puzzle-platform, adventure game where you play a young boy with no name, who’s trying to survive.

The world is full of dangers, including wild dogs, vengeful guards and maniacal robots. Sneak around, collect orbs and try not to get murdered. And if you collect enough orbs you get a cool alternate ending that I highly recommend.

The other interesting thing about the game is it’s rather peaceful to play due to the lack of music and sound effects. What little sound effects there are stand out and give the game a creepy and ominous atmosphere.

You’ll find out along the way you can control some of the dead bodies to solve some of the puzzles. Trust me when I say you’ll love this dystopian adventure of doom.

7. Little Nightmares

“Little Nightmares” is an adorable, yet grotesque nightmare-fueled, puzzle-platform game that takes place in a peculiar world called “The Maw”. You feel like a doll yourself, as you rummage through a dollhouse full of terror.

You take the role of a young boy, named Six, who must face all his worst childhood fears. Can you be stealthy enough to not get caught by the soul-eating monsters that occupy “The Maw”?

As a massive lover of all things indie and all things supernatural, this game struck me as special. The main character is even named Alex! Which is what my name is… haha

This time you get to lead a group of friends through a ghostly rift that you guys unknowingly opened at a house party. Can you uncover the Island’s supernatural history and lead your friends to safety?

All of your choices make an impact and your's and your friends’ fate depends on every choice you make.

Watch out for the monsters and dangers that lurk in the shadows along the way!

5. Amnesia: Collection

The “Amnesia Collection” is a terrifyingly effective horror collection of games including “Amnesia: The Dark Descent”, the“Justine DLC” and the sequel “A Machine for Pigs”.

One of the coolest things about the Switch is all the game franchise collections you can get. What’s better than getting 3 games for the price of one?…Especially when they’re rammed packed with blood and guts?

“Amnesia” is another game where the goal is to hide and sneak around before the creatures can hunt and devour you. Also, another game where you wake up confused and without memory in a creepy old mansion.

Can you figure out what happened to you and escape the dread that lies within the walls? Listen to your audio recordings, solve puzzles and make complex decisions involving keeping other prisoners alive.

If you enjoy games like “Layers of Fear”, I guarantee you’ll love this game! It came from the same creators after all.

4. Detention

“Detention” is another well-deserved re-released game for the Switch. Jump into some Taiwanese terror with this awesome 2D sidescroller that’s set in a horrific 1960s Taiwan.

In 1947 an uprising developed in Taiwan where the entire country decided to fight against the oppression of the people caused by World War II. A bunch of students decided to become involved in communist publications and many people were arrested and a lot of violence ensued.

There was even a movie made AFTER the game. Both have been wildly popular and are exact references to the historical event.

Learn about Taiwan’s history and mythology while getting some adrenaline-packed fun. Detention truly is one of a kind.

3. Bioshock: The Collection

Bioshock is one of the most impressive and massive horror adventure games out there. With a marvellous storyline that can’t be forgotten, you’ll become completely immersed in this underwater world called “Rapture”.

Become engrossed in a world of science, discovery and superpowers, as you explore the gigantic utopia. Meet new characters and figure out how to keep the special molecule called “adam” from the creatures called “splicers”.

The world is intricate, creepy, and full of exploration that'll make your jaw hit the ground.

The “Bioshock” collection is yet another awesome bundle of games you can get on the Switch. It includes upgraded versions of “BioShock”, “BioShock 2”, and “BioShock Infinite”. Definitely a bang for your buck!

2. Resident Evil 4

“Resident Evil 4” is one of those games that every horror fan on the planet has heard of…at least through the other “Resident Evil” games or from the movie franchise. It’s also ANOTHER game spectacular enough to be relaunched for the Switch and many other consoles.

Play as a special agent, named Leon S. Kennedy, as you are put on a mission to go to Europe and rescue the President’s daughter. Battle against zombies of all sorts, including a new breed called “Las Plagas”. You also need to face off against villagers, who have been driven mad by a cult called “Los Illuminados”.

“Resident Evil 4” is one of the best games ever made and is a must-play for any fan of horror or adrenaline-packed first-person shooter games.

Whether you’ve played any of the other “Luigi’s Mansion” games or not there’s no way you won’t love this third installment in the story. Full of supernatural, 3D side-scrolling fun, and a ton of new and improved graphics.

If Mario is your favorite super brother…” Luigi’s Mansion 3” will likely turn Luigi into your new favorite within minutes.

Suck up ghosts with a proton pack-like device, reminiscent of the one in “Ghostbusters”, tackle various traps and watch for a new scare around every corner. Also, get a taste of nostalgia as you walk the corridors of the spooky hotel. It’s decked out in creepy Mario-themed décor, and ghoulish puzzles and is retro in all the best ways.

I have no idea how anyone couldn’t love “Luigi’s Mansion 3”. Not only is it the perfect horror game to play with your older kids, but it is one of the best games made for the switch, hands down.

25. The Evil Within

If you want a fast-paced, anxiety-inducing game with tons of awesome monsters dripping in blood and guts, then “The Evil Within” will knock your socks off.

The storyline is pretty elaborate and entails a detective, and a crime scene at a hospital, which unravels into a crazy conspiracy. Can you survive this rapidly transforming world called, “STEM”? Wander through forests and alternate between nightmares, and reality, as you battle creatures and use resources to the best of your abilities.

“The Evil Within” is also beautiful in a grotesque sort of way. The art and details in the game are incredibly intricate and the colors are bright and impactful. I’m sure this game will impress you and all your friends.

24. The Evil Within 2

“The Evil Within 2” has even more action, monsters and intensity than its earlier counterpart. A horror-survival game that’s perfectly blended with an action movie vibe. There are explosions, blood, terrifying creatures and all sorts of weapons, and imagery that will make your jaw drop.

Welcome back to “STEM” where your nightmares become reality. This game has a ton of flashbacks, alternate realities and so much more to keep you interested and wanting more.

“The Evil Within 2” plays like an intense action film and is spectacular in every way. Bethesda does it again… their storylines and visuals always make their annoying glitches worth it.

23. Outlast II

Welcome back to the same world you’ve seen before in the first “Outlast” game, but on a new journey with new characters. “Outlast II” has even better graphics than its counterpart and continues to give us a sinister thrill.

You play a journalist deep in the darkness of the Arizona desert. Can you uncover the mystery of a pregnant woman found dead? What’s going on with this group of people that seems like a cult? You and your wife will go to great lengths for stories that most would be petrified to go near.

If you’re a fan of psychological horror, then you’ll love trying to unravel what’s going on in this gorgeously detailed game.

22. Pathologic 2

(Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Linux and Macintosh)

“Pathologic 2” has taken survival horror as far as possible by incorporating real-life survival instincts into the game. Think “Sims”, but horror and action-packed.

Play a plague doctor who has 12 days to save a town that's being quickly destroyed by the fast-spreading disease. Don’t forget to eat, drink and relieve yourself throughout the game. And don’t forget to gather resources by any means possible. Whether it’s by stealing, looting, murdering or begging…do whatever you can because time is of the essence.

“Pathologist 2” has an extremely engaging storyline and is stunning to look at. It also seems they’ve drastically improved everything since the original game.

If the idea of living through a plague doesn’t hit too close to home for you. Or if you like freaking yourself out with an exaggerated dose of reality…you won’t be disappointed.

Gore and sci-fi collide in this awesome picturesque adventure that takes place on a planet far away. “Dead Space” was one of the first games of its kind with an immersive narrative story about murderous aliens.

The world is running out of resources and the other planets must be scoured. A ship was designed to extract planets’ resources by cracking them open. It’s come to your attention that this ship has broken down and you being an engineer and all… have been commissioned to fix the ship.

Turns out the ship has been overrun by aliens and most of the people remaining on it have been slaughtered in a horrific manner. There are cults, aliens and blood galore.

Turns out your only choice is to escape with a lot of turmoil in your path.

18. Left 4 Dead 2

Does the concept of murderous zombies of all sizes running at you in hordes excite you? “Left 4 Dead 2” blows the earlier game out of the water, both graphically and via gameplay.

You get to see close-ups of zombies being decimated in various ways. Exploding heads and arms being shot off. And blood and guts flying in every direction. Use chainsaws, guns and whatever you can get your hands on to survive and fight for life.

“Left 4 Dead 2” won’t let you keep your eyes off the screen with how intense and graphically pleasing it is. You’d regret not giving it a try.

17. Prey

The second that “Prey" starts you'll become mesmerized by how stunning every aspect of your surroundings are. You believe your dreams are trying to tell you something about your destiny.

You, your grandfather, and your girlfriend have been abducted aboard an alien spaceship after a bar fight at the local hangout. Being an old U.S. soldier, you’re lucky enough to have some combat skills. Can you save your loved one from the alien spaceship and return safely to your home planet?

The music, visuals and storyline of “Prey” are so immersive that you’ll feel completely transported to a different time. It’s such an incredible game that they remade it with higher-quality graphics.

16. Until Dawn

“Until Dawn” isn’t your typical cabin in the woods story. The premise is there, but then it develops into so much more.

You’ll communicate with spirits via a Ouija board and experience stories of an old sanitarium and of a mine that’s been caved in. And the game looks so good you’ll feel like you’re in a scary movie.

There are wendigos, human psychopaths, traps and other mysterious creatures to escape from. Find clues, survive and solve the mystery of what happened to your missing friends.

Will you regret accepting your friend's invitation to this wild expedition?

Also…if you’re into movies you’ll notice a lot of recognizable faces, like Rami Malek for instance.

15. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Fight against an undead family in a dilapidated old plantation, as you search for your missing wife. “Resident Evil 7” is a fantastic addition to the franchise that just seems to get better and better.

The zombies are intense and in your face, there are new breeds of the undead to defeat, and all kinds of puzzles of varying difficulties to solve. Even the different landscapes are impressive to look at.

“Resident Evil 7:Biohazard” doesn’t fail to horrify and impress us all at once.

14. The Medium

Immerse yourself in an expansive and fantastical world in “The Medium”. A game where you play a psychic who has access to both the real world and the spirit world. Burdened with this talent, it’s up to you to find the answers.

Can you solve the murder of the child from your haunting visions? Find the abanded resort, look for clues and switch between realities in this suspenseful, psychological thriller.

Another game where the graphics are so perfect they look like real people and scenery.

13. Bloodborne

Join the “the night of the hunt”, where you join a clan of hunters, as they go in and out of dream and reality to try and defeat the diabolical creatures that have taken over the land.

In “Bloodborne” you play a regular guy who gets a blood transfusion and embodies the hunter the blood was sourced from.

The game has a dark and nightmarish Lovecraftian aesthetic that will keep you entranced. I was also mesmerized by the incredible gothic landscape.

12. Control

11. Resident Evil 4

“Resident Evil 4” is probably the most well-known and loved game in the franchise. So good that they recently announced they are going to release a remake for Xbox Series X, Series S, Playstation 5 and PC.

It’s incredibly atmospheric and completely original from the other games. The pacing is perfect, the monsters come in tons of different forms and your surroundings bring a dark tone to make up the perfect survival, horror experience. Even the voice acting in the game is of better quality compared to the others.

Save the President’s daughter from a horde of infected cultists and try not to be overwhelmed by the decrepit town and corpses that surround you.

10. Back 4 Blood

(Available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and Series S)

Fight against an epidemic of grotesque, fast-moving zombies, called the “Ridden”. Can you and your crew save humanity from the destructive parasite that’s trying to devour the world?

The cool thing about this game (besides its phenomenal graphics) is that it has a multiplayer mode in both co-op and competitive modes. Work with your friends to destroy hordes of zombies or play against one another as either a “cleaner” or as one of the “ridden”.

“Back 4 Blood” is a combat-based game with a ton of different weapons, fights, and different characters to choose from that have a range of different specials and abilities.

9. Little Nightmares

It shocked me how spooky an adorably animated game could be. “Little Nightmares” brings you to the world of “The Maw”, which is an unsettling dollhouse full of nightmarish mystery.

Can Six escape alive and face all his childhood fears? Solve puzzles, escape traps and try to keep your wits on the journey through this whimsical and mischievous world.

“Little Nightmares” is one of the most breathtaking 3D animated horror games you’ll ever play.

8. Doom: Eternal

Become the “doom slayer” again in this high-impact, action and horror game. “Doom: Eternal” brings the terror of hell to a whole new extreme.

The agility in this game is comparable to “Assassins Creed”. Even the style of the main character’s outfit and the tall and climbable building are relatable.

If you want to experience one of the most horrific and remarkable RPG, horror games ever made. Trust me, don’t waste another minute.

Save the world from the Necromorph infestation with big guns, badass outfits and a lot of spectacular visuals in this sci-fi horror adventure. If you love horror movies like “Alien” or “Event Horizon”, then this is the game for you.

After your character Isaac Clark unearths a mysterious artifact, he wakes up aboard a giant space station, called the Sprawl. He has no idea what’s going on and is haunted by visions of his girlfriend who died. All he knows is he has to survive and defeat the ruthless creatures.

Can he find a way to save humanity with his range of awesome tools, weaponry and telekinesis powers?

You’d be shocked this game was made back in 2011 with how fantastic the graphics are.

5. Outlast II

Psychological horror at its finest. You can tell just from watching the teaser they don’t wanna give too much away before you dive into “Outlast II”.

You play as a journalist who goes on a dangerous quest to get a juicy story with his business partner/wife. A pregnant woman was found dead…and the details surrounding the story don’t make sense.

Find yourself in a different setting and time than its counterpart “Outlast” as you become engrossed in a confusing story involving Sullivan Knoth. Him and his followers have left the rest of civilization behind and have started their town, called Temple Gate.

Can you and your wife figure out what happened without falling too far away from reality.?

Enjoy the disturbing shots and grotesque visuals, as you blow your friends away with “Outlast II”.

4. Metro Exodus

“Metro Exodus” is based on a novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky and is the third in the “Metro” trilogy. An incredible narrative, a first-person shooter video game that tells brings back the protagonist named, Artyom, as he brings his crew to Russia where they can live without filters.

The game is set after the books, in the year 2036. Can you and your crew stay alive and make a new home for yourselves?

There are new weapons, new tools for sourcing resources, and new changing seasons. Over the course of a year, you have to survive several different landscapes and challenges before you make it to your final destination.

Can you make it without losing too many people? A life of hope awaits you.

3. Bioshock Infinite

Here is some of the best spooky games of 2020!

The year 2020 was a rough year all around, but at least we were able to play a few good indie horror games to get us through. Below I have compiled a list of the top 15 indie horror games of 2020.

15. Samsara Room (Android, iOS, PC)

Samsara Room is all the fun of being in an escape room without physically going to one, which is great if you’re a germaphobe like me. This is a point-and-click game that can be completed in about an hour, it's also free. Who doesn’t like free games? In Samsara Room, your goal is to find a way out by solving a series of puzzles. Some of these puzzles require the player character to transform into a fish, a worm, a bird, and of course a human.

At first glance, this doesn’t look like a horror game, it actually looks more cute than scary but, trust me when I say it’s unsettling. The music is what really makes the player feel alone and it creates an eerie atmosphere. Not to mention a few of the puzzles, like crawling into the mouth of a dead man, can definitely leave some people feeling uncomfortable.

14. Someday You’ll Return (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

Someday You’ll Return is a first-person horror game where you take the role of Daniel, a man who is searching for his missing daughter, Stela. Now, this isn’t the first time Stela has run away, but instead of consulting a family therapist and getting to the root of all this family drama, Daniel chooses to ignore any issues and simply go find his daughter every time she runs off.

Someday You’ll Return contains no combat but just because it doesn’t have any fighting mechanics doesn’t mean it can’t be scary in its own way. Walking alone in the woods as well as navigating through dark tunnels and mazes can really induce feelings of claustrophobia in some people.

13. Pylons (PC)

Pylons is a cute, pixelated horror game released on October 22, 2020, by T.W. Burgess. It’s a short and fun game with the single goal of not getting killed by a pylon. Throughout this game, you’ll have to make choices that may or may not result in your character dying. Do your best to survive and make it to the end.

12. No One Lives Under the Lighthouse (PC)

In No One Lives Under the Lighthouse you are called to be a replacement lighthouse keeper. What happened to the keeper that you’re replacing? Well. He disappeared and no one knows where he went off to. This mystery doesn’t seem to bother the player character at all, and they are intent on maintaining this lighthouse. I always love it when horror games start off pretending to be a simulator before they break off and the real scares begin.

No One Lives Under the Lighthouse may be a slow burn type of horror story, but once that flame ignites, it really does shine. You’ll have to uncover the mysteries of the island and the lighthouse, as well as its past inhabitants. This game contains 3 endings, each of which is lovely in their own way.

11. The Convenience Store (PC)

The Convenience Store is a psychological J-horror game by Chilla’s Art. Even though this game is short and can be completed in less than an hour the experience is one you won’t soon forget.

You play as a young woman who works the night shift at a convenience store. Now, being a woman and working at night in a small convenience store is anxiety-inducing enough, but this game adds to that panic. At first, this game plays out like a convenience store simulator because you’ll have to complete regular tasks, such as restocking items and clearing out expired foods. I love that these little assignments have been given to the player, it really adds to the immersive nature of the game.
However, such simplicity doesn’t last long. As each in-game day passes and you meet more customers and people, you’ll begin to uncover the haunting past of the convenience store. This game has two endings, so be sure to uncover both of them to learn the full story.

10. The Horror of Salazar House/The Enigma of Salazar House (PC, Linex)

The Horror of Salazar House also called The Enigma of Salazar House is a point and click Italian inspired horror game that uses 1-bit style graphics and includes 8 endings. You are also given the option of choosing what color you’d like the graphics to be, gray, green, red, blue, are just a few of the choices. I find this little detail to be a great addition, especially for your eyes. Get tired of one color? Well, all you have to do is change it.

In this game, you take the role of a young reporter by the name of Elisa who has been sent to investigate the Salazar home. Jaime Salazar was an author who went missing, along with his family. As you explore the home you’ll find yourself being stalked and possibly killed if you aren’t fast enough to getaway. The feeling of constantly being on the lookout for the stalker can really increase your anxiety and it induces feelings of paranoia. The Horror of Salazar House shows that a game doesn’t need to have hyper-realistic graphics to be terrifying.

9. Fatum Betula (PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One)

Fatum Betula is a surreal horror game that uses PS1 graphics, this game is a mixture of a fever dream and a bad nitrous oxide trip.

This is a really short game, so I can’t say too much about it without spilling some spoilers. In this game, you are in a location that does not have a past, but by watering a birch tree you can change the future of this place. Fatum Betula is Latin for fate birch because it is the birch tree and the player character that will decide what unfolds in the future. Depending on what substance you use to feed the tree will determine which of the 10 endings you may receive.

8. Carrion (PC, PS4, Linux, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch)

Have you ever wanted to take the role of the monster in a horror game? Who doesn’t enjoy the sounds of human bones crunching and muscles squishing? In my opinion, we don’t have enough games out there where you get to connect with your inner monster and become the nightmare of those around you.

Carrion is a reverse horror game where you take on the role of a squishy scarlet red tentacle monster on a rampage. It’s your job to kill humans and destroy everything around you so that you may escape the facility and spread your terror further. If you’re looking for a fun and engaging game, you need to give this one a try.

7. Murder House (PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch)

Murder House is a survival horror game that uses PS1-style graphics. There is just something so wonderful and enduring about these kinds of graphics in horror games, don’t you think?
This game is divided into two parts. In the prologue, you play a young boy named Justin with the signature stylish mullet of the 80s. The 80s may have been a flashy time for fashion, but not for technology, and since Justin doesn’t have a cell phone he isn’t able to call his parents or the police and tell them he fell asleep in the mall and is trapped. You’ll have to guide Justin on a frightful journey throughout the empty mall -- oh wait, did I say empty? Well, it’s not empty, this poor boy is being chased by a killer in an Easter Bunny suit.

In the second part of the game, you take the role of Emma, a young intern for a local news company. The news crew is working on a story about a child killer called the Easter Ripper, and they decide to record from his “abandoned” home. Rumor is, the Easter Ripper is haunting his old home. The crew soon learns that those rumors might actually be true. You’ll have to take Emma on a gruesome Egg Hunt that will end horribly if she doesn’t complete it. Interns really do have it the worst sometimes, don’t they?

6. World of Horror (PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4)

If you’re a fan of Junji Ito and Lovecraft, then this is a game for you. World of Horror uses 1-bit graphics created entirely on MS Paint, this is another game that proves you don’t need all the high resolution and hyper-realistic monsters to incite a good scare.

In this game, you’ll have to investigate the strange and paranormal events happening in the town of Shiokawa, Japan which are believed to be caused by the Old Gods. As you try and solve each case, you’ll have to battle enemies in a turn-based style of combat to survive.

There are a total of 11 playable characters that you can pick from, however, you only begin the game with a choice of 5. The other 6 characters can become unlocked after achieving certain tasks as the other characters. Everything in this game is randomized, which makes it perfect for multiple playthroughs without getting bored with the experience.

5. Phasmophobia (PC)

If you’re a fan of paranormal investigations but don’t have the means to go on one, this game is perfect for you.

In Phasmophobia, you and three of your friends can take the roles of paranormal investigators and explore haunted locations. You’re given the choice of working in the van to monitor the cameras and screens or physically investigating each location. Not only is this game spooky, but it’s fun as well.

4. Paranormal HK (PC, PS4)

Paranormal HK is a mix of Murder House, because you work as a member of a news agency and Phasmophobia because you are investigating the paranormal. This game is full of creepy creatures and perfectly timed jumpscares that will keep you on edge the entire time.

In this game, you are a member of an online supernatural investigation crew by the name of, “Beyond the Invisible.” They are on assignment and everything seems to be going well, that is until a crew member by the name of Kathy becomes possessed. However, even after you give her an exorcism she continues to act strangely. You’ll have to work through puzzles and other obstacles to try and save Kathy and figure out the reason behind her strange behavior.

3. Golden Light (PC)

Golden Light is a grotesque comedy-horror game where your main objective is to rescue your lovely lady. On your way to saving her, you’ll encounter hideous, flesh-like monsters each with unique and enduring designs.

In this game, you explore a randomized world known as The Gut, which is alive by the way. Now, despite The Gut being both the setting and the antagonist, you might think it would be a good idea to shoot and attack everything, right? Wrong. The more of a pest you are to The Gut, the more difficult the environment will become for you. Yes, sometimes you are going to need to attack enemies, just be mindful of your consequences.

Amnesia: Rebirth is a survival horror game and is the sequel to Amnesia: The Dark Descent. In this game, the player character is a female French archaeologist called Tasi, who was involved in a plane crash on her way to an expedition, and to make things worse, her memories are gone as well. She ventures out into the Algerian desert to find her missing husband and companions. This game includes a fear meter that increases if Tasi stands in the dark for too long, is caught by monsters, or witnesses horrific events. Make sure to keep that fear level to a minimum, if it’s too high you can be sniffed out by ghouls, which won't end well if you’re caught.

Visage is a first-person, psychological horror game that doesn’t have a combat system and it doesn’t need one to be frightening. In this game, you take the role of a man named Dwayne Anderson who killed his wife and children before killing himself. As you guide Dwayne throughout his home, you’ll begin to uncover mysteries about its previous inhabitants and what their connection to each other and Dwayne is.

Be sure to keep an eye on Dwayne’s sanity level, if it drops too low you’ll begin to experience more paranormal activity, such as doors closing and lights flickering. The sanity mechanic is an excellent feature of this game because it gives the player an understanding of Dwayne’s mental state and how it affects the world around him. This game is truly horrifying, with wonderful graphics, gameplay, and story.
