Borderlands 3 takes us to the planet of Pandora and beyond to fight the two newest big bads, The Calypso Twins, as we try to stop their insane plans to become the only two stars in the night sky.

Still following the same action-adventure first person shooter playstyle of the previous main entries in the series.

Playing as one of 4 new playable characters where you can play either single or multiplayer, you’re tasked through different missions in the vast open world.

Created in its trademark cell shaded art style but with better framerates and resolutions made for hardware beasts like the PS5 it's hard to not be mesmerized by the enormity of the playable area and also the design of the characters in it. Lilith, Pandora, and Tiny Tina never looked so good

14. Control - 2019 (PS4, PC, Xbox One, Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia)

Playing as a telekinesis powered woman named Jesse, you're taken to a building known as “The Oldest House” as Jesse traverses the building,she fights beings from another plane of existence known as “The Hiss”

Released back in 2019 and played in a third person perspective, you battle corrupted building employees and the otherworldly entities with an experimental gun that can transform into any type of firearm.

The game also lets you use your telekinesis at will to defend, sense, and attack your opponents.

Graphics in the game are astounding even though the entirety of this game is played inside a brutalist style building. The particle effects, lighting, and textures of your attacks and the environmental destruction are top notch.

Telekinesis effects on objects such as tables and chairs and flinging them towards your enemies are as satisfying and visually stunning as it can be.

13. Days Gone - 2019 (PS4, PC)

One of the most criminally underrated Sony published games with which its critical consensus did not do it justice, Days Gone is still remembered as an all time great despite the criticisms it got.

Released back in 2019 to much hype surrounding its release due to its main gameplay mechanic being that you can fight enormous hordes of zombies known as “freakers” that come at you like a tidal wave of infected flesh and teeth waiting to rip you apart.

You travel through Oregon as you try to find your lost wife while figuring out what started the plague in the first place and, possibly, to find a cure to stop it.

The visuals of a ravaged Oregon countryside is beautiful and haunting at the same time.

Sights of far away bandit camps and desolate small towns set the tone for a bleak and dangerous world where behind any corner there could be hundreds of the infected freakers waiting for their next victim.

Freaker hordes are the most terrifying things you can see in the game. Just the site of 500 of them barrelling towards you at top speed is enough to give you a mini panic attack.

12. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla - 2020 (PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Stadia)

Nothing screams assassin more than a 6 and a half foot tall nordic dude wielding two axes and a shield

Released in 2020 and acting as the twelfth mainline story in the Assassin's Creed Franchise, Valhalla takes us to the Viking conquests and expansions in the British Isles which lasted between 872 to 878 AD.

We take control of Eivor Varinsdottir, a viking raider who is recruited into the assassin brotherhood during her attempt to establish a viking clan in England.

Canonically, Eivor is female but the player can choose Eivor’s gender at the beginning of the game or letting the game alternate genders during key events suitable for whichever gender.

Played in a style similar to the Origins and Odyssey games in the franchise, the play area is enormous, spanning most of the British isles with more than a hundred different locations where the player can go on main and side missions.

The play area of Valhalla is the most highly detailed in all the Assassin’s Creed games and specifically made to coincide with the release of the PS5 where during the synchronization points you can clearly see kilometers of draw distance beautifully rendered.

Character designs and kill animations are especially satisfying and encapsulates the brutality of what viking warfare would’ve looked like.

11. The Order 1886 - (PS4)

Hard to believe that this was a release title made for the PS4

Released as a playstation exclusive back in 2015 published by Ready At Dawn, The Order 1886 surprisingly still holds up today in terms of the graphics.

Played in third person mostly focused on cover-shooting, you're taken to an alternate 1800’s London where you play as Galahad, one of the knights of the round table, as you fight supernatural enemies such as werewolves and vampires and organizations focused on taking down the government.

Released 8 years ago, it still looks spectacular even if it was one of the very first exclusives for the PS4.

The grime and heaviness of 1800’s London can be seen and felt in the saturation of colors in the environment with textures and lighting still holding up well even when played on hardware beasts such as the more advanced PS5.

A criminally underrated game also during release, critics gave mixed to negative reactions to the games story but eventually the game garnered a cult following since its release with players still clamoring for The Order 1887 if it ever comes into fruition.

10. Mortal Kombat 11 - 2019 (Switch, PS4, PC, Xbox One, Stadia, PS5, Xbox Series X/S)

The game that started the Entertainment Software Ratings Board or the ESRB as we know it returned back in 2019 for its 11th mainline installment of history’s most beloved blood and murder loving fighting game.

Mortal Kombat 11 still played like the previous Mortal Kombat games as it pits two characters, one controlled by the player and the other either by the computer or a second player.

Fatalities in the game are the most gruesome in the series as you can cut your foes in half with a flaming chain, kick their heads off and cut the head in two, and rip their bodies in half to make them into a sock puppet.

Story mode is surprisingly also great as it continues the story from MKX and even has a story expansion in the Aftermath DLC.

Character models look great with their facial expressions caught accurately with every emotion they make and every wince of pain rendered accurately.

Even the fight stages in the game look stunning and rendered beautifully and can be interacted with by the player to use objects in the background like scythes, saws, and fire.

9. Spider-Man: Miles Morales - 2020 (PS4, PS5, PC)

Sometimes all it takes is a leap of faith and Adidas sneakers

The follow-up to Insomniac’s stellar 2018 game Spider-Man, we now take control of Miles Morales who played a minor role in the first game.

As the newest Spider-Man in training, Peter Parker leaves the safety of the city in your hands as a new threat rises up led by the mysterious and dangerous Tinkerer.

Traversal in the game is the most satisfying aspect in the gameplay as swinging from building to building while flipping and flopping through the air as if you're still just a hero in training is an oddly satisfying thing to witness.

Combat is fluid and counterattacks still feel as fresh as it was when the original game was released.

Graphics wise, there hasn’t been a better rendition of the city of New York ever in games. New weather effects are introduced in the game like snow as the events of the game happen during December.

Diving through the air while the sunset is shining in the horizon is one of this game's better moments to give you a visual feast tailor made to your own playthrough.

8. The Last of Us Part 2 (PS4)

About to be turned into a pin cushion in about 1 second

If you follow us here at Gamers Decide then you already know how much we love The Last of Us series and it clearly shows as we have featured this game in a lot of the articles here and for good reason.

Released in 2020 at the tail end of the PS4’s reign at the top of the Sony console list, The Last of Us Part 2 takes us into the lives of Ellie who was present in the 1st game and a new character named Abby who has her own story to fulfill.

Gameplay is gritty and gory with updated kill animations like giblets being blown apart and limbs being cut off and enemies being burned alive in real time.

It is as raw as it can get for a game with a story that snagged it the 2020 Game of the Year award.

But in terms of the graphics, it's absolutely breathtaking visuals are undeniable.

To the rainy city of Seattle to the snowy regions of Wyoming and even the sunny state of California, the player is treated with visuals that show much power the PS4 can still belt out on top of the meticulous and highly detailed character models of the infected and the main characters.

7. Batman: Arkham Knight - 2015 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)

He is vengeance. He is the night. He is also looking at a moon about 20 times the size of what the moon actually looks like

There’s something about 2015 games that hit different in terms of the graphics that they offered to players.

The third installment to the Batman Arkham series takes us back again to the city of Gotham as Batman has to contend with the combined forces of Scarecrow and a new threat named The Arkham Knight.

The game's story is a continuation of Asylum and City as Batman is still dealing with the repercussions of The Joker’s death and the cascade it created in Gotham’s hierarchy in crime.

Gameplay is similar to the previous two entries in the series but the game now introduces the famous Batmobile to contend with the hundreds of tanks that have been deployed to take control of Gotham.

Graphics wise for a 2015 game, it still looks like it’s a game that was made for the PS5 rather than a PS4 launch title.

The wet streets and the rain in this game are beautifully made and the neon from the city illuminating the Batmobile and the streets makes it all the more beautiful even beating out the recently released Arkham Knights that was released in 2022 in the graphics department.

6. Detroit: Become Human - 2018

David Cage is a video game director known for his games that teeter between profound to absolutely insane.

With titles such as Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls, it gave plenty of talking points of identity and mystery but also gave us memes that will last for a long time. Press X to Shaun, am I right?

With his latest addition to his portfolio of games, Detroit: Become Human is an exception in terms of his history with games.

Released in 2018 and published by Quantic Dream, Detroit Become Human follows the stories of Kara, Marcus, and Connor as they go through their new found sentience or faltering robot consciousness to fulfill their own missions and find out what their life means.

When we talk about the graphics of this game, it still looks like one of the best made for the playstation or for any console in general.

Scenes were filmed with the actors wearing motion capture suits and later animated to be part of the game, every emotion is (or emotionless faces) of the actors are captured as they switch between sentient robot to obedient android.

With human characters also complementing the androids in the game, they give a good look at what a world where androids and humans can or cannot co-exist.

5. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End - 2016 (PS4, PS4, PC)

Nathan Drake’s last ride came to us back in 2016 with the 4th installment in the Uncharted franchise with A Thief’s End. Published by Sony and developed by Naughty Dog, it brings a close to the rough and tumble life of PlayStation’s premiere plunderer.

We’re taken back in control of Nathan Drake, a world famous treasure hunter and adventurer as we go on one last adventure to find the world's biggest pirate treasure.

Played in a third person perspective and set in a semi open world play area, we go to different play areas such as Italy, Scotland, and the islands of Madagascar and its neighboring areas.

New gameplay mechanics are introduced such as the grappling hook coupled with the same cover shoot mechanics from the previous Uncharted games.

Despite being released in 2016, it still holds up graphically with the play area being as breathtaking as they were back on its launch date. It even holds one of the most beautiful areas in PlayStation history with Madagascar and the chase sequence that happens on the level.

A fitting send off to Sony’s most famous treasure hunter (sorry Lara Croft).

4. God of War: Ragnarok - 2022 (PS4, PS5)

The dynamic father and son duo returns in this 2022 showcase of stellar graphics and even better story driven gameplay.

Kratos and Atreus return from God of War (2018) as they attempt to survive the Fimbulwinter with the end of the world, called Ragnarok, coming ever closer.

Created as the sequel to the 2018 Game of the Year. God of War Ragnarok leads us through the multiple realms in Norse mythology as Kratos and Atreus go on missions either separately or together as they wait and try to fight the eventual coming of Ragnarok.

Gameplay is similar to the 2018 original with a few gameplay tweaks such as the icing of the leviathan ax for added damage and traversal options such as the dog sled used in the game.

But the real clincher in this game is the absolutely stunning graphics it brings to the players. Even on the PS4 the game looks as stunning as it can be.

The surrounding areas are crafted down to the smallest detail, light reflections and shadows are accurate to the light source, and enemy and character designs are truer to life as it can be.

3. Horizon Forbidden West - 2022 (PS4, PS5)

The sequel to one of Sony’s homegrown masterpieces, Horizon Zero Dawn. Forbidden West takes us to, well, the west where Aloy returns to try and find a missing piece of tha GAIA systems to help save the planet's dying biosphere.

Played in a third person perspective and employing RPG elements in the gameplay, Forbidden West is a worthy successor to its 2017 counterpart.

New enemy machines are introduced such as a robot Pterodactyl you can ride to giant robot elephants. New factions are also introduced, both benevolent and evil, that Aloy meets along her journeys.

Playing the game on a native PS4 or the PS5, either one still looks beautiful with beautifully rendered draw distance, lighting and shadows that look like the real thing, and particle effects after hitting a machine with your hardpoint arrows is satisfying as it is beautiful to behold.

2. Red Dead Redemption 2 - 2018 (PS4, Xbox One, PC, Stadia)

“This game makes you feel like a cowboy” - Gamers Decide 10/10

The magnum opus of Rockstar Games as of the time of writing with details and gameplay secrets that are still being discovered to this day.

RDR 2 is the absolute pinnacle of what happens if a developer truly loves and cares for their game and their fans.

Set in 1899 we follow the tale of Arthur Morgan, the right hand man of the notorious Dutch van der Linde as he and the whole van der Linde gang live and try to make ends meet by either doing honest jobs or the good old fashioned train or bank robbery.

By hook or by crook, the van der Linde gang stays true and honest… or will they?

Gameplay is mostly focused on horseback riding in terms of traversal and gunplay is fast and accurate with the quickest draws being the deadliest.

Hand to hand combat is more of like a fight club style kind of combat with blocks and punches being implemented with visible damage seen during these melee sections.

The absolute deal maker of it all is the scope and beauty of the whole playable area. Snowy mountains, dry deserts, lush grasslands, thick forests, foggy swamps, populated cities to rural small towns, this game has it all.

Every playthrough is unique where you can go around robbing people or sitting on the edge of a cliff and overlooking the sheer beauty of the game.

RDR 2 is a godsend from the gaming gods and not many compare to the beauty it brings to us players. But there is only one game we can think of that can top RDR 2 and that is.

1. Ghost of Tsushima - 2020 (PS4, PS5)

If you played this game, you know that this title card gave you goosebumps

Rarely does a game impact you in a way that it stays with you forever. Important events in gaming such as Aerith’s death in FF7, Samus Aran’s gender revealed in Metroid, and Slippy Toad’s constant annoyance in Starfox.

But almost NEVER has the intro of a games title card give you goosebumps and make you remember the emotion it invoked in you forever.

Sucker Punch Studios after a 7 year hiatus returned to give us Ghost of Tsushima.

A story centered around a samurai warrior named Jin Sakai who is forced to learn tactics that go against the samurai code to help save his island of Tsushima and Iki.

Not only is the gameplay satisfying and addicting with parries being utilized along with bombs, bows, and kunai.

The real main attraction is the beauty of the environments in this game. It makes you feel like you're inside a painting. A real work of art made into a game.

Riding through golden autumn forests, visiting pampas grass fields, or overlooking the whole of Tsushima high up a mountain is one of the many sights in this game that will give you a sense of peace and duty that puts you in the shoes of Jin himself.

The beauty of the island and all of its inhabitants make you feel like it’s your own home, and you have to defend it by any means necessary.

Here’s a list of games that blew me away visually and gave me the taste of terror and adrenaline I crave so much.

25. The Evil Within

If you want a fast-paced, anxiety-inducing game with tons of awesome monsters dripping in blood and guts, then “The Evil Within” will knock your socks off.

The storyline is pretty elaborate and entails a detective, and a crime scene at a hospital, which unravels into a crazy conspiracy. Can you survive this rapidly transforming world called, “STEM”? Wander through forests and alternate between nightmares, and reality, as you battle creatures and use resources to the best of your abilities.

“The Evil Within” is also beautiful in a grotesque sort of way. The art and details in the game are incredibly intricate and the colors are bright and impactful. I’m sure this game will impress you and all your friends.

“The Evil Within 2” has even more action, monsters and intensity than its earlier counterpart. A horror-survival game that’s perfectly blended with an action movie vibe. There are explosions, blood, terrifying creatures and all sorts of weapons, and imagery that will make your jaw drop.

Welcome back to “STEM” where your nightmares become reality. This game has a ton of flashbacks, alternate realities and so much more to keep you interested and wanting more.

“The Evil Within 2” plays like an intense action film and is spectacular in every way. Bethesda does it again… their storylines and visuals always make their annoying glitches worth it.

23. Outlast II

Welcome back to the same world you’ve seen before in the first “Outlast” game, but on a new journey with new characters. “Outlast II” has even better graphics than its counterpart and continues to give us a sinister thrill.

You play a journalist deep in the darkness of the Arizona desert. Can you uncover the mystery of a pregnant woman found dead? What’s going on with this group of people that seems like a cult? You and your wife will go to great lengths for stories that most would be petrified to go near.

If you’re a fan of psychological horror, then you’ll love trying to unravel what’s going on in this gorgeously detailed game.

22. Pathologic 2

(Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Linux and Macintosh)

“Pathologic 2” has taken survival horror as far as possible by incorporating real-life survival instincts into the game. Think “Sims”, but horror and action-packed.

Play a plague doctor who has 12 days to save a town that's being quickly destroyed by the fast-spreading disease. Don’t forget to eat, drink and relieve yourself throughout the game. And don’t forget to gather resources by any means possible. Whether it’s by stealing, looting, murdering or begging…do whatever you can because time is of the essence.

“Pathologist 2” has an extremely engaging storyline and is stunning to look at. It also seems they’ve drastically improved everything since the original game.

If the idea of living through a plague doesn’t hit too close to home for you. Or if you like freaking yourself out with an exaggerated dose of reality…you won’t be disappointed.

21. Outlast

Become a journalist named “Mike Upshur” whose job is to investigate a creepy, abandoned psychiatric hospital. Find out that something much more terrifying than you ever imagined walks the facility’s corridors.

Can you survive the creatures that go against everything science has told us? Your camcorder is your only tool. Make sure it doesn’t die by collecting batteries throughout the game.

Survive this shaky-camera, horror adventure and find out what confidential things are being hidden within the walls of “Mount Massive Asylum”.

20. Amnesia: The Dark Descent

19. Dead Space

Gore and sci-fi collide in this awesome picturesque adventure that takes place on a planet far away. “Dead Space” was one of the first games of its kind with an immersive narrative story about murderous aliens.

The world is running out of resources and the other planets must be scoured. A ship was designed to extract planets’ resources by cracking them open. It’s come to your attention that this ship has broken down and you being an engineer and all… have been commissioned to fix the ship.

Turns out the ship has been overrun by aliens and most of the people remaining on it have been slaughtered in a horrific manner. There are cults, aliens and blood galore.

Turns out your only choice is to escape with a lot of turmoil in your path.

18. Left 4 Dead 2

Does the concept of murderous zombies of all sizes running at you in hordes excite you? “Left 4 Dead 2” blows the earlier game out of the water, both graphically and via gameplay.

You get to see close-ups of zombies being decimated in various ways. Exploding heads and arms being shot off. And blood and guts flying in every direction. Use chainsaws, guns and whatever you can get your hands on to survive and fight for life.

“Left 4 Dead 2” won’t let you keep your eyes off the screen with how intense and graphically pleasing it is. You’d regret not giving it a try.

17. Prey

The second that “Prey" starts you'll become mesmerized by how stunning every aspect of your surroundings are. You believe your dreams are trying to tell you something about your destiny.

You, your grandfather, and your girlfriend have been abducted aboard an alien spaceship after a bar fight at the local hangout. Being an old U.S. soldier, you’re lucky enough to have some combat skills. Can you save your loved one from the alien spaceship and return safely to your home planet?

The music, visuals and storyline of “Prey” are so immersive that you’ll feel completely transported to a different time. It’s such an incredible game that they remade it with higher-quality graphics.

16. Until Dawn

“Until Dawn” isn’t your typical cabin in the woods story. The premise is there, but then it develops into so much more.

You’ll communicate with spirits via a Ouija board and experience stories of an old sanitarium and of a mine that’s been caved in. And the game looks so good you’ll feel like you’re in a scary movie.

There are wendigos, human psychopaths, traps and other mysterious creatures to escape from. Find clues, survive and solve the mystery of what happened to your missing friends.

Will you regret accepting your friend's invitation to this wild expedition?

Also…if you’re into movies you’ll notice a lot of recognizable faces, like Rami Malek for instance.

15. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Fight against an undead family in a dilapidated old plantation, as you search for your missing wife. “Resident Evil 7” is a fantastic addition to the franchise that just seems to get better and better.

The zombies are intense and in your face, there are new breeds of the undead to defeat, and all kinds of puzzles of varying difficulties to solve. Even the different landscapes are impressive to look at.

“Resident Evil 7:Biohazard” doesn’t fail to horrify and impress us all at once.

14. The Medium

Immerse yourself in an expansive and fantastical world in “The Medium”. A game where you play a psychic who has access to both the real world and the spirit world. Burdened with this talent, it’s up to you to find the answers.

Can you solve the murder of the child from your haunting visions? Find the abanded resort, look for clues and switch between realities in this suspenseful, psychological thriller.

Another game where the graphics are so perfect they look like real people and scenery.

13. Bloodborne

Join the “the night of the hunt”, where you join a clan of hunters, as they go in and out of dream and reality to try and defeat the diabolical creatures that have taken over the land.

In “Bloodborne” you play a regular guy who gets a blood transfusion and embodies the hunter the blood was sourced from.

The game has a dark and nightmarish Lovecraftian aesthetic that will keep you entranced. I was also mesmerized by the incredible gothic landscape.

“Resident Evil 4” is probably the most well-known and loved game in the franchise. So good that they recently announced they are going to release a remake for Xbox Series X, Series S, Playstation 5 and PC.

It’s incredibly atmospheric and completely original from the other games. The pacing is perfect, the monsters come in tons of different forms and your surroundings bring a dark tone to make up the perfect survival, horror experience. Even the voice acting in the game is of better quality compared to the others.

Save the President’s daughter from a horde of infected cultists and try not to be overwhelmed by the decrepit town and corpses that surround you.

10. Back 4 Blood

Fight against an epidemic of grotesque, fast-moving zombies, called the “Ridden”. Can you and your crew save humanity from the destructive parasite that’s trying to devour the world?

The cool thing about this game (besides its phenomenal graphics) is that it has a multiplayer mode in both co-op and competitive modes. Work with your friends to destroy hordes of zombies or play against one another as either a “cleaner” or as one of the “ridden”.

“Back 4 Blood” is a combat-based game with a ton of different weapons, fights, and different characters to choose from that have a range of different specials and abilities.

9. Little Nightmares

8. Doom: Eternal

5. Outlast II

Find yourself in a different setting and time than its counterpart “Outlast” as you become engrossed in a confusing story involving Sullivan Knoth. Him and his followers have left the rest of civilization behind and have started their town, called Temple Gate.

4. Metro Exodus

[Top 15] Resident Evil 7 Best Graphics Settings For The Best Experience

When it comes to playing Resident Evil 7 on a PC, the graphics settings can be a little overwhelming. After all, there are 19 settings to go through! With so much to check, it’s hard to know which settings are worth messing around with to see what you like the most. Luckily, most games have it set to their believed optimal setting; but for those of us that like tinkering with it regardless, let’s look at what some of those settings do.

#15 - Bloom

A lot of these settings, as you’ll see, come down to personal preference and help to make the game feel more life-like. Bloom is one of these, as it boosts the amount of light a light source gives off. Basically, it makes the lighting in a game feel more realistic; but for some, they may not like that because by realistic, I mean REALISTIC. Well, at least for the games that implement it correctly. It can give off a bit of a glare, and hurt some peoples’ eyes when a game does it incorrectly, or just generally if people have more sensitive eyes.

So should you turn it on?

If you like more realistic light output coming from the sun, lamps, or anything of that sort when playing games, then I recommend you toggle it to ‘on’.
If a more darker and all around less bright view, but still bright enough to see, is more your style, stick with having it off.

#14 - Dynamic Shadows

This is another setting that provides a more lifelike feel to those who’re looking for that during gameplay. It casts real-time shadows and is another on/off toggle. It’s not the most important feature, but can be if you’re screen recording or posting your gameplay. Without this on, it doesn’t cast shadows at the rate you would see in real life and, in some cases, doesn’t cast any at all. Remember to turn dynamic shadows back on if you’d like to after you fight Marguerite, because the game turns it off automatically afterwards.

What should you set it to?

If you prefer full immersion and want shadows in your game to appear as they would in real life, then turn it on.
If harsher shadowing or less shadowing is more your style, turn it off.
All in all, it’s good to play with both before deciding, as there are quite a few differences between off and on.

#13 - Effects Rendering

Effects rendering is essentially just the intensity of the rendering of special effects in a game. Things like sparks, lightning, fire, and explosions are all an example of what this setting affects. It drums up the FPS however, so that’s something to keep in mind.

What should you set it to?

This setting can either be set to Low, Medium, or High; so if you want a lot of intensity in your game during action-packed moments, you should try it out on Medium or High.
If you want to save on a few FPS and don’t care much about the intensity of a few explosions, setting it to low would be your best bet.

#12 - Rendering Method

This setting can be toggled between Normal and Interlaced, and affects the performance rate and graphical details. Turning it to interlaced will sacrifice some of the graphics for a better performance rate. While normal keeps it, well…normal.

Should you choose Normal or Interlaced?

For those who don’t mind the normal frame rate and like the graphical qualities, keep it on the normal setting for your playthrough.
If you’d rather miss out a bit in the graphics department in exchange for that performance rate, try it out on interlaced.

#11 - Motion Blur

Motion blur can be a bit of an important one when it comes to how much you enjoy your gameplay. Have you ever been playing a game and suddenly you’re feeling a bit motion sick? This can come down to a few things, but one can be because the motion blur is on. Some people find it hard to play with it on, but others do enjoy the cinematic feel it can give the game (But trust me, you’re not alone if you take dramamine before playing certain games, so turning it off will help that.

Should you turn it on?

If you get motion sickness easily, or find that you think the game looks worse with this feature on, which is a common complaint, turning it off would be your best bet.
If you prefer a more cinematic experience when playing the game, turning it on may be best for you.

#10 - Mesh Quality

This feature basically refers to how far objects are rendered and how well they’re rendered. This ranges from Low to Very High and can help make the game less headache inducing, or, depending on how you look at it, more detailed. Turning it to a higher quality mesh option will make things easier to see from a distance.

What should you set it to?

If you want a better FPS and LOD, and don’t mind not seeing great detail in further distances, try turning it to Low or Medium for a few minutes to see how you like it.
If you’d rather see better details further, and don’t mind missing out on a few other qualities, turning it to High or Very High might be the best option for you.

#9 - Anti-aliasing

Anti-aliasing makes graphics way less jagged and optimizes the visual appeal of the game. If you’re someone with a bit of an ungiving graphics card, there’s a few options for this setting, including SMAA, TAA, FXAA+TAA, and FXAA. Which one you choose is up to your own preference, but some are definitely better than others.

What should you choose?

It’s widely recognized that SMAA helps with a clearer image, but doesn’t smooth up the jagged edges as much as the other options.
While FXAA+TAA mostly helps with the anti-aliasing while giving off a bit of a blurrier image.
FXAA and TAA on their own are about the same as FXAA+TAA, but with only a few recognizable differences.
This being said, check out all options and see which one, whether that be clearer and slightly jagged, or slightly blurry and smooth-lined, you like more on the ole eyes.

#8 - Texture Filtering

Texture filtering comes down to two things, magnification filtering and minifiction filtering. Some people think it has little effect on the performance rate, and is ultimately skipped many times, but it helps shapes and colors form a cohesive scenery which can definitely affect your gameplay. It has a bit of an effect on how well antialiasing works too; so definitely play around with this setting to see which is best for you.

What should you set it to?

It ranges from Very Low to Very High, so first try the game at the middle setting. If you don’t like it, try setting higher before you go lower.
If you like a very lifelike style game and cohesive models instead of a more pixel-like grain, try High or Very High. Having it higher up does sacrifice a few FPS, but not enough to worry about.
If you like that video game feel of pixelation, try Low or Very Low.
It’s good to note that changing it won’t affect your immediate sight - it’s more so a setting for far away objects - but it does affect a few aspects of upclose imagery.

#7 - Depth Of Field

Have you ever seen a blur effect on pictures? You see the main image, but the surrounding area is blurred to make the main point of the picture stand out. This is what depth of field is basically. It blurs areas around the object in front of you, similarly to your own eyes. Depth of field is an on/off toggle and can change regular scenery to that slightly blurred scenery.

Should you turn it on?

The whole point of it is to make the game more cinematic; to make it feel like you’re seeing it through the character’s eyes. It’s known to be GPU intensive, however, so if you have a lot of other settings turned on that diminish your FPS, and would rather have a more sharp image, turn it off.
If you’re strictly looking for the cinematic feel and don’t mind missing out on some FPS, try playing with it on if you have the extra frames to spare.

#6 - Subsurface Scattering

This setting is a bit confusing to some, and understandably so. Subsurface scattering happens when light passes through a slightly translucent surface. It then bounces around inside the object before leaving at a separate part from where it came in. This basically allows things like skin to look more realistic, as it would in real life. Without it, characters or certain objects can look plastic-like, or like a ps2 game from 2003..

Should you turn it on?

This is another on/off toggle, so if you don’t like when your characters or certain objects look too fake, breaking the immersion, try playing with it turned on. Keep in mind that it’ll sacrifice about 3 FPS, so if you can't afford that - rethink it!
If you are already gambling too many FPS and don’t care about plastic-like characters or objects, it’s best to just keep it off.

#5 - Volumetric Lighting

Before we get into what volumetric lighting does, keep in mind that it affects your performance rate a good amount. It’ll make you lose out on 5 FPS, but if you don’t have many other settings on that diminish FPS, then don’t worry much about it. This setting is used to make lighting look more realistic when passing through things like windows, cracks, smoke, and fog. Beams of light in natural environments also come with the setting, creating that realistic lighting feel instead of just having the screen lit up automatically.

What should you set it to?

Volumetric lighting comes in Off, Low, and High. If you really can’t miss out on any more FPS at all, or simply dislike the way natural lighting looks in video games, turn it Off.
If you’re not sure which you like and want to see what the difference on a smaller level would be, try playing with it on Low.
If you love the realistic feel and think that automatic lighting is a bit cheesy and breaks that immersion we talked about earlier, turn it to High.

#4 - Ambient Occlusion

This is a type of rendering method that adds depth to the picture, which stops light and spreads shadows. It helps the other settings create that realistic image some love. There are a few ways to play with this feature; Off, SSAO, HDAO, and HBAO+. Let’s go through them.

What should you set it to?

Turning it off will create a more 2D looking scenery; not to say that it will make it 2D, because it definitely won’t; but the depth of a room won’t look as realistic. However, the game is notoriously dark on purpose, so it won’t affect every little drop of gameplay.
Turning it to SSAO will give you that intense realism, but it also strikes your FPS considerably, almost to an unworth it level.
Turning it to HDAO or HBAO+ will give you the realistic effect you’re looking for, but at the expense of 1 or 2 FPS instead of a boatload. In my opinion, it won’t change enough of the game to warrant turning it on; and that's where people lose out on FPS without realizing why.

#3 - Reflections

This is a rather self explanatory setting; it works with Shadow Quality to create a realistic reflection of surfaces. It’s an important setting to cover because even though it’s self explanatory, you’ll be missing out on the performance rate if you don’t set it to the right thing.

What should you set it to?

This one is a bit hard to say, because while reflections are important to the game’s quality; it also depends on your graphics card. This is a highly demanding setting, so if you don’t think your graphics card can handle it, or you’re already missing too many FPS, just skip out on it.
If you have a high performing graphics card and can stand to lose out on the performance rate, try turning it on.
Variable is the recommended setting and is probably your best bet. You will lose out on the performance rate a bit, but it was designed to optimize and create the best of both worlds between off and on. Reflections is definitely a preference setting.

#2 - Shadow Quality

Think of Reflections and Shadow Quality as best friends. Shadows and reflections are needed to make the game not even just look realistic, but just generally not ugly to look at. Games without them tend to simply just look bad. This setting helps the quality look like it’s truly being produced by light; rather than hard-lined or drawn. Similar to the reflection setting, you’ll need a good graphics card for this setting.

What should you set it to?

If you don’t have the VRAM to support it, turn it to Very Low or Low, the game will still look good but it won’t be as realistic as you may want.
Even if you don’t have enough VRAM, I would recommend changing it to the medium setting and playing a couple minutes with it to see if 1. It’s playable, and 2. If you like it more than Low. This is the setting I personally play on.
If you have that high quality graphics card and are ready to take on any demanding setting there is (Lucky), turn it to High or Very High. It’ll diminish the performance rate some, but having the shadow quality all the way up can definitely make it more interesting in some cases.

#1 - Resolution Scaling

This setting, depending on what you set it to, renders the game at a higher (or lower) resolution. It acts like upscaling, basically magnifying your screen and making it look more crisp. A lot of people get caught up on this setting, as the options range between 0.5X to 2.0X. The usual setting would be 1.0X, a.k.a 100%, although for some people they might want it closer up or further away; but how does that affect performance?

What should you set it to?

Some may compare this setting to a super form of antialiasing and, honestly, they’d be slightly right. This setting is 100% preference but can mess up your performance rate tremendously. If you turn it to 200% (2.0X), it’ll be almost impossible to run if you have a normal sized monitor.
Having it at 150% (1.5X) can affect your performance rate too, but not at the amount that 200% can - it’ll definitely look crisp and clean however.
The last two settings are the most common and allow you to play the game without interruptions or hardship. Turning it to 0.5X can actually make the game run a bit faster, while 1.0X stays at your usual game speed and rate.
If you have a monitor to support it, I honestly recommend going 150%. For those with run of the mill monitors, try it on 0.5X, you might like it more than the regular 1.0X.

15. Metro Exodus (PC / PS4 / PS5 / Xbox One / macOS / Linux)

There’s just something about a slow-paced game with the promise of threat that is ever present that gets the heart pumping. Metro Exodus was developed by 4A Games, published by Deep Silver, and is the third game in the series. You will play as Artyom, a soldier trying to find life outside of the Metro, and he finds it, but it's not as peaceful as he expected.

As you scavenge from dead enemies, and fight against creatures that have been mutated by radiation, you will be blown away by the detailed, realistic graphics the game offers. Metro Exodus offers some of the best atmosphere an FPS game can, and has, as well as fluid, gritty combat.

The game simultaneously places you in an open map, giving you the opportunity to explore, but also manages to make every encounter feel close-quarters and strategic.

Ubisoft has become well known for its gameplay formula; a huge open world, strongholds to take over, side missions to complete, and guns to upgrade until eventually you take on the villain that makes his presence known at the beginning of every game. Far Cry 6, which released in 2021, is no exception to this.

This isn’t to say that it is a bad game. It’s really fun, the combat is great, the world is immersive, and the characters are very fleshed out. You will take control of Dani Rojas, a Yaran rebel, whose mission is to bring peace back to the beautiful nation, and beautiful it is.

Ubisoft has created one of the most visually breathtaking worlds, and it's easy to forget that you’re playing a game. From beautiful beaches to vibrant forests, you could get lost just taking it all in, if it wasn’t for all the action that awaits you.

13. Red Dead Redemption 2 (PC / PS4 / Xbox One)

There can’t be a list of FPS games with realistic graphics that doesn’t include Red Dead Redemption 2; Rockstar Studios, the developer, really went above and beyond when creating this game. Yes, while it is true that Red Dead Redemption 2 is intended to be played from a third person perspective, it has the option of first-person perspective too, and it should definitely be used.

You play as Arthur Morgan, a charming outlaw, who is a member of the Van der Linde gang that is comprised of a bunch of misfits that work well together, better than they would alone. The Wild West is changing, and society is becoming more civil, which is something that you and the gang need to contend with, along with the lawmen that are chasing you from your previous botched heist.

Along with realistic graphics that instantly immerse you in the game, the world around you feels alive. From the quiet little homesteads to the bustling cities and towns, dusty caves, and forests, it creates the feeling that there is always something just waiting to be discovered, and from a first-person perspective it's even better.

12. Enlisted (PC / PS4 / PS5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series S and X)

When it comes to free to play shooters, it is often hit or miss, most of the time being miss. However, Enlisted is one of those free to play shooters that hits the nail on the head, and has everything that a shooter should include. The game was released in 2021, published by Gaijin Entertainment, and developed by Darkflow Software.

If you have played CRSED: F.O.A.D. then you basically know what to expect since it uses the same engine. That being said, the graphics of Enlisted are some of the best that FPS games have to offer, especially free to play ones. The game has influences of some of the best FPS multiplayer games, such as Battlefield and Call of Duty, and is set during the World War II era. This means that you can expect to see weaponry of that time, as well as vehicles.

If you aren’t prepared to buy a Battlefield game just yet, then Enlisted is one of the best choices for a similar feel, fast-paced action, and all out warfare.

11. Beyond the Wire (PC)

Very few FPS games out there capture the atmosphere and intensity of World War 1, except Beyond the Wire. The game was published by Offworld Industries, developed by Redstone Interactive, and is currently available on Steam as an Early Access title.

If you have a beefy enough computer and can push the graphics to the max settings, the graphical atmosphere of the game alone is stunning. More than this, the visual effects, the sounds, the camera shudder all help to simulate a truly at the edge of your set experience that is hard to come by with many FPS games with World War themes.

There is nothing quite like an explosion right next to you, seeing an enemy through the dispersing sand, and knowing that all it takes is one shot to end it all for the both of you, so you better not miss.

10. Escape from Tarkov (PC / macOS)

There are many FPS games that promise realism, intense gunplay, diverse weapon customization, and a general feeling of hopelessness, but don’t deliver. Escape from Tarkov is not one of those games, and is reserved for a special group of players. Think PUBG meets Stalker, with the realism of Arma. The game was released as a closed beta in 2017 by developer and publisher, Battlestate Games.

It isn’t just the ultra-realistic graphics that makes the tension in Escape from Tarkov feel so real, it’s also the fact that the game is kind of like a battle royale, but with real consequences. It is becoming more and more difficult to find someone who hasn’t heard, seen, or played a Battlefield game, and it can be argued that the series has set the tone for the FPS genre, particularly the multiplayer aspect of it. This is no different for Battlefield 5 which was released in 2018, published by Electronic Arts and developed by DICE.

If you aren’t aware of the Battlefield series, this entry puts you in the World War II setting where, more often than not, two 64-player teams will fight it out on the ground, and in the air. You will be able to earn attachments for your weapons and be able to upgrade your vehicles.

Battlefield 5 is probably one of the most visually appealing of all the games in the series, and the detailed design of the maps really bring the game to life. Battlefield 5 managed to create both a realistic looking world, filled with detail from the buildings to the landscapes, and arcade like gameplay, that synchronize quite well.

When rumors emerged that a new Call of Duty game was in the works after the release of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in 2016, many speculations emerged as to what it could be. Then when players found out it would be a reboot of one of the developers’, Infinity Ward, most popular game in the series, the excitement was palpable.

Needless to say, that Infinity Ward didn’t fail to deliver when releasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare in 2019. The visuals of the game are some of the best that the FPS genre has to offer, and having a new engine built specifically for the game allowed for the gameplay to exceed expectations and standards of FPS games.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was a breath of fresh air for the series, and the enhanced visuals which have ray tracing capabilities, along with smooth movement and engaging combat makes this an FPS game that you simply can’t not try out.

7. Arma 3 (PC / macOS)

From the developers Bohemia Interactive comes one of the most immersive and graphically realistic military sims ever created; Arma 3. The scale of the game is just enormous, with many moving parts that come together to form a magnificent, realistic experience, both in mechanics and visuals.

You are U.S Army soldier Corporal Ben Kerry, and you find yourself on the islands of Altis and Stratis, although there are other islands to play on too. Arma 3 is set in an open-world, waiting to be explored, with many objectives and missions to undertake, weaponry to choose from which will vary mission to mission, and vehicles to ride.

The new stance system is absolutely amazing; there are 9 stances to choose from which means that you can find cover behind almost any surface. There’s nothing quite like leaning from behind cover, aiming down the sights to find a glint in the distance, and seeing dust being dislodged from the wall next to you as a bullet ricochets off into the distance.

One thing that FPS fans might have noticed in the last few years is a demand for realistic military shooters, and one game has risen to the occasion; Post Scriptum. This game actually began as a mod for Squad, which is also on this list, and after being developed by Periscope Gamesand published by Offworld Industries, it was released as a standalone game in 2018.

Post Scriptum offers some of the most intense combat and atmospheres of the World War II era, and what aids in this are the realistic graphics that the game shows off. If the game is set to epic quality, it turns into an almost cinematic experience, and it really helps to place you in the shoes of the soldier you are controlling.

If you are a fan of World War II games, great graphics, and grueling, realistic gameplay, then Post Scriptum is for you.

5. Insurgency: Sandstorm (PC / macOS / Linux)

Insurgency: Sandstorm is one of the newer entries on this list, and as such, it naturally has some of the most realistic graphics seen in an FPS. The game was developed by New World Interactive, published by Focus Home Interactive, and was released in 2018.

It is one of the most intense, brutal and satisfying tactical FPS games to have been released, with great level design, amazing atmosphere, gameplay that is incredibly realistic, and has some of the smoothest animations.

Muzzle flashes are very easy to get wrong, but Insurgency: Sandstorm nails them perfectly, and this adds to the realism and graphics, especially when you see the dust raise when bullets hit the ground, and blood splatter and mist spray from an enemy's head when landing that perfect headshot.

4. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege (PC / PS4 / PS5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series S and X)

If there is an FPS online tactical shooter out there that had one of the biggest followings, it would be Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege. The game was released in 2015, and was developed by Ubisoft Montreal, and published by Ubisoft.

To explain what the game is quite simply; it is search and destroy, but an expanded, tactical, and slightly more complicated version of it. What sets this game apart however, is that it uses a class-based system, which means that the different characters have different loadouts and abilities.

In addition to this, the visuals are incredibly realistic. This added with the fact that basically every surface is destructible means that there is an extra layer of fear and realism when walking through tight corridors, that can quickly become littered with debris and flying pieces of wood. In this FPS, peaking around corners is something that actually needs to be done.

3. Hell Let Loose (PC / PS5 / Xbox Series S and X)

As mentioned, there is a demand for World War games, and one of Post Scriptum’s contenders is Hell Let Loose, developed by Black Matter, and published by Team17 in 2021. The major difference between Hell Let Loose and Post Scriptum is that Hell Let Loose is much more graphically realistic, whereas Post Scriptum is more realistic in terms of gameplay.

For many FPS fans, Hell Let Loose is what Battlefield 5 could have been, and what helps to create an environment that feels so alive is the breathtaking graphics of the game. The game uses interesting mechanics that ensure a strategic pace, such as respawn points in the form of outposts, which can only be built by squad leaders.

If you are looking for something that shares some of the realism of Post Scriptum, but isn’t as arcade-like as Battlefield 1 or 5, then this game is perfect for you.

Many hardcore FPS gamers will know of Offworld Industries from Project Reality, a Battlefield 2 mod. Squad, is the spiritual success of that, developed by Offworld Industries, and released in 2020.

Squad features realistic squad-based tactical gameplay, and is one of the best games for large-scale warfare. This large-scale warfare often presents itself in you having to crawl through fields of high resolution, extremely realistic grass, keeping an eye out for a glinting scope in the distance.

The fact that you will die often, and mainly by enemies you never saw, completes the realistically tense atmosphere the amazing visuals create. Added to that the complicated gameplay mechanics, and the result is an extremely satisfying, realistic and rewarding experience, if you don’t rage quit in the first hour of gameplay.

You won’t be taking control of anyone, instead you will create a character and enter an open world which contains missions that you can follow. If you’re into the 90s anime look, I would absolutely give Cowboy Bepop a view. Space Westerns may seem odd to watch in general but Cowboy Bepop gives the genre a good name. The show follows a motley crew cast of bounty hunters led by Spike Spiegel, an exiled criminal gang member, and his search for his runaway lover. The show is an anime classic that includes fluid fight scenes, suave, jazzy music with an essence of mystery to it. Cowboy Bepop is also one of the best anime with an enjoyable English dub, a rarity in the anime community as Spike’s voice is smoother than butter in complementing the elegant jazz vibe of the show. As one of my favorites, it is pleasing to the eye and definitely worth watching.

The art style and animation of Kyoukai Kanata is brilliant with bright and attractive characters along with its story that immediately caught my attention, and perhaps yours as well.

Arima Kousei is a gifted pianist who lost his ability to play piano after a traumatic event involving his mother’s death. His will to play piano revives after meeting a whimsical, free-spirited girl, Kaori, who plays the violin. Together, the two orchestrate beautiful music, however, things get sour when Kaori has a secret of her own. The music, graphics, and story are all truly breathtaking in Your Lie in April. If you are into romantic dramas with musical and slice of life elements, you can’t go wrong watching it, just prepare a box of tissues for the waterworks, I know I had to.

10. God Eater

Based on the video game, God Eater provides quality animation and graphics with tremendous detail. In a post-apocalyptic nation, an organization known as Fenrir serves humanity to defend against monsters known as Aragami. Soldiers known as God Eaters fight off such creatures using weapons called “God Arcs.” Both the anime and the game’s cutscenes are amazingly structured with fans raving on the edge of their seats for more.

9. Demon Slayer

Currently one of the most popular anime, Demon Slayer could not be helped but mentioned. The graphics for the show are notably crafted along with its one of a kind art style. The protagonist, Tanjiro, goes on a journey to look for a cure for his cursed, demon bitten sister after a demon raids their home and murders their entire family, leaving the two to remain. The show has illustrious fight scenes that really get viewers going. I will admit, I am not the biggest fan of shonen but even I found the art to be appealing, getting my attention to actually watch it.

8. Hyouka

A slice of life mystery on the list, Hyouka is actually an anime that is also on my personal anime laundry list to watch. Oreki is a high school student who becomes a member of his school’s Classic Literature Club as a request from his alumni sister to prevent the club from being disbanded. While Oreki tends to live life with a whatever personality, he starts to look at things with a different lens when he befriends his peppy fellow clubmate, Chitanda, and starts to realize he has a knack for solving mysteries. The show is produced by Kyoto Animation, which animates a lot of eye pleasing slice of life shows, including one of my guilty favorites, K-On, and Hyouka being no different.

7. Sword Art Online

The show is set in a virtual reality game called Sword Art Online, where the VR equipment uses the full capacity of the body’s five senses when played. On launch day, 10,000 players gear up to play but are shooketh (yes, I said shooketh) when they must clear 100 floors of the game in order to log out, if they do not complete the task or die within the game, they die in real life. I remember when I first watched Sword Art Online, the animation reeled me in like a fish in a pond. The graphics between the 2D animation and virtual reality aspects are truly golden and were really ahead of its time.

6. Fate Series

The Fate series is known to be a contender in animation charts. The series is based off of Japanese visual novels and involves different stories between three heroines, Saber, Rin, and Sakura who each have their own inner identities that become unveiled throughout the series. I am a big sucker for fight scenes and the Fate series have some battles of insane quality with high digital graphics that make me wish I had started to watch it before.

5. Violet Evergarden

I’m not going to lie, I put off watching this show for the longest time because I thought it was a slice of life and boy, was I completely wrong. Violet Evergarden is a soldier who rehabilitates into postwar everyday life. She regrows into a person trying to connect to the world and reconnect with herself and understand her own emotions after all the trauma and detachment she experienced as a soldier. The show has one of the best visuals in the industry, the animation is just so, so smooth it literally showcases emotion with almost each and every movement. Calling this show “beautiful” truly does not even do it any justice.

4. Five Centimeters per Second

I have seen so many Instagram posts of anime pictures that make you want to eat “anime food,” and so many of them come from this movie. Produced by Makoto Shinkai, 5 Centimeters Per Second is absolutely gorgeous. The graphics and lighting effects emphasize so many details in this movie, along with amazing scenery that makes you want to fly on a plane to Japan in the springtime, minus the COVID. The movie presents a major slice of life vibe, involving time, space, people, and love centering on a kid named Takaki Tōno as he goes through those elements.

3. Garden of Words

Another Shinkai production, The Garden of Words is a graphically beautiful film that has you feeling that you are watching something with backgrounds so real it looks like you are actually there. Takao is a 15 year-old shoe maker who comes across an older adult woman, Yukari, at a park while she is skipping work. The two meet up at the park throughout the movie, and grow together talking about their life experiences and goals. The animation is so alluring that there is a running gag in the anime community that every scene is media wallpaper worthy, go see for yourself.

2. Your Name

Not my name, Your Name. Ugh, such a terrible joke. I know what you’re thinking, another Shinkai film? You betcha. Your Name is known for its details in this grounded fantasy of a slice of life. A rural town girl named Mitsuha longs to live a life as a Tokyo boy in the city, and later is granted her wish when she switches bodies with a Tokyo schoolboy named Taki. The two continue to switch bodies on and off in a series of dreams, and have to live their day to day lives as each other. What’s really amazing about the movie are the graphics and how well they mimic actual real life places in Japan. Shinkai really outdoes himself with his movies, with Your Name only falling short to one other film in highest grossing animated films in the history of Japan...

With so many titles to choose from, there is something out there for everyone. From the wondrous mysteries of Spirited Away, to feel good moments in My Neighbor Totoro, to the fantastical world of Howl’s Moving Castle, there’s no wrong decision. There’s a reason why Disney wanted in on Studio Ghibli and their beautiful work. While the highest grossing animated film in Japan belongs to Studio Ghibli’s Spirited Away, my personal favorite is The Wind Rises, which follows Jiro Horikoshi and his life in designing planes during World War II. Now it’s up to the Arcana to get rid of those Naraka pests and restore peace to their world. Choose from two factions, either the Free Knights or the Royal Guards, and adventure through a world where women are only offered the bare minimum of clothing to wear! But the lack of armor for female avatars in games is a whole other article.

Despite controversies about the game being way over the top with innuendos, you can still admit that the graphics are well done.

In an adventuresome endeavor into the world of online games, Square Enix and Sony Entertainment has brought the Final Fantasy franchise from a single player, story-driven experience into a game where you can choose to rely on others for help. It seems hard to image that FF XIV was released back in 2010, but it somehow still manages to keep its own against newer MMORPGs. Graphics-wise, the game is completely stunning. But what else could we expect from Square Enix besides perfection?

Instead, enemies will fling themselves at you, try to knock you off your feet, and even attempt a body slam if you’re down. And there’s no fuzz or glitchy graphics for far-off mountains and scenery—everything looks crisp and clear.

Instead of having brightly colored, vibrant landscapes, Vindictus invites players to explore a slightly grimmer, and, in my opinion, more realistic world. This minor lack of bubbles and sunshine doesn’t make Vindictus any less fun. In fact, it offers something a bit different for you to explore, a nice break from the colorful fantasy worlds we see so much of nowadays. The graphics are incredible, especially considering that this game was created as a F2P MMO. You might even feel as though you’re playing an expensive PS4 game as you create your hero and choose a class.

If you’re into grinding, great graphics, and epic boss raids, then you should definitely give Vindictus game a go.

Blade and Soul marks another winner from Korean game developer, NCSOFT. Blade and Soul has received widespread success since its original release in the East in the year 2012. It was even popular enough to spawn an animated television series on TBS. When it finally made its way to Western audiences in 2016, PC gamers in North America fell head-over-heels in love. Blade & Soul had the whole package: enjoyable gameplay and stellar graphics. B & S’s character creation tool is one of the most detailed I’ve yet to see from an MMORPG. You can tweak facial structure to get your character’s face exactly how you’d like, and adjust the width and length of every appendage. In other words, your character will be as unique as you are creative. Once you finish creating your character, you step into an expansive, luminous world with graphics that will blow your mind.

NCSOFT seems to be getting better and better with their MMORPGs. I wonder what’s next for them?

The franchise has only grown in popularity since then, with new games recently being shot out at rapid fire speed. The latest Monster Hunter game (Monster Hunter World) was released at the beginning of this year. With very few limitations as to how you can complete each mission, the decision is nearly always yours. Will you be Ghost, a warrior, a sniper or more than all three?

Far from your average FPS, Ghost Warrior is beautiful and earie in equal measure and as you wander the woodlands of the Caucasus you will genuinely feel like a dangerous hunter. Your enemies will most likely never see you coming.

Observe your enemies from afar and carefully plan your missions to ensure success.

Stealth feels awesome in Sniper: Ghost Warrior 3 and is by far our favourite way to play.

For Honor has received a lot of criticism for its lack of multiplayer infrastructure, players often complain about server issues and a levelling structure that hampers the games ratings for many.

However, none of that takes away from the stunning visual spectacle of For Honor that complements an awesome combat system with innovative battle controls. If medieval combat is what you’re looking for then you’ll be hard pressed to find a multiplayer experience better looking than For Honor, that is when it works.

Cut through waves of lesser foes only to face down fellow champions in the epic struggle of For Honor.

Your warrior choice is everything in For Honor. Samurai, Viking or Knight, what will you choose?

12: Mafia 3

With dangerous enemies, explosive action and an environment seemingly set on killing you, you must be ready to master the wild. Craft gear, use the environment to ambush your enemies and delve in the biggest, most beautiful tombs ever made for the Tomb Raider series in a game that pushes the potential of our PC’s to the absolute limit. Highly recommended for veterans and newcomers to the series alike.

From barren steppes to luscious jungles, every aspect of Rise of the Tomb Raider is meticulously detailed.

Combat requires skill and careful planning in order to get the jump on your heavily armed enemies.

10: Star Citizen

Star Citizen is a unique science fiction epic MMO that takes place on a truly staggering scale. Offering an entirely unique and seamless experience, Star Citizen offers you an amazing amount of choice.

Whether you want to be an explorer, a mercenary, a pirate or a professional soldier there is so much to do in such a vast universe that Star Citizen may be the most ambitious project ever attempted in MMO gaming.

But the fun doesn’t just take place in the cockpit, Star Citizen also offers a beautiful and action packed third person experience. The third person combat of Star Citizen is no simple afterthought, in fact it is one of my favourite aspects of the game and really brings the universe to life.

Tarkov is a city under siege. Incessant warfare has driven humans away. What remains are well-armed gangs and mercenaries unfortunate enough to be left behind when the Russian military closed the city off from the outside world.

You are one of those poor souls, now fighting a desperate battle to somehow escape from Tarkov, and maybe profit a little along the way.

As a private security contractor stranded in war-torn Tarkov, players will have to choose their side, USEC or BEAR and be prepared to engage in brutal, realistic fps action with MMO/RPG elements in order to make their way to safety.

The soviet style industrial ruins of Escape from Tarkov are awesome and when combined with the innovative and unique gameplay features make a beautiful game that even in this early stage of development is already looking like one of the hidden gems of 2017.

Fight through an industrial wasteland with whatever weapons you can, even your torch can be used as a weapon to blind your opponent.

Escape from Tarkov is an MMOFPS with fantastically unique design that makes this game unlike anything we have ever seen.

8: PREY

Awaken aboard the luxury space station Talos 1, in orbit around earth’s moon in the year 2032 and discover an unbelievable, open world (or should we say, open space?) game that will force you to continually think on your feet as you uncover the secrets of Talos 1.

All whilst being hunted by some of the scariest, well designed alien foes in video game history.

Where you go and how you achieve your objectives will be largely up to you, the whole station is one big dangerous open world environment that is rendered in stunning detail. Improvisation is key to success in PREY, and planning an escape route with traps can be the difference between life and death.

If you’re searching for a stunning sci-fi action survival experience to test your high-end rig, then look no further.

You’ll need to scavenge a serious arsenal of weaponry if you want to stay alive, Talos 1 is no longer a safe haven.

The Photorealistic visuals of PREY bring your enemies to life in new and terrifying detail.

7: DOOM

For many gamers, DOOM is the franchise that started it all. But I bet I’m not alone in saying that when we first switched on our PC’s and played DOOM for the first time, none of us had any idea just how far the series would come to.

Doom is easily one of the best-looking FPS games we have ever played, whether you’re obliterating the demon hordes of hell in supernatural science fiction glory, or you’re taking on friends in the awesome multiplayer, Doom is a real visual spectacle that runs beautifully on your PC. If you’ve got a high-end rig as well, then prepare for a serious treat.

But the fun doesn’t just stop there, thanks to DOOM’s SnapMap editor you can create and play nearly limitless new environments in which to slaughter your demonic foes.

Legions of giant demons with Lasers? Shouldn’t be a problem for the last DOOM marine on mars.

All of the classic enemies have been re-imagined in incredible, photorealistic detail that will have you on the edge of your seat.

4: Star Wars Battlefront 2

Battlefront 2 looks set to change all that. We’re incredibly hyped for the full release of Battlefront 2, which is set to bring the Star Wars universe to life in a way that will do it as much justice as the latest films have done.

Fight for the rebels, or the empire across all the eras of the Star Wars movie universe as you take to the skies in the iconic tie fighters, or fight on the ground with the heroes and villains of the legendary space opera.

With a brilliant single player campaign, and an exciting multiplayer experience just around the corner, Battlefront 2 is set to outshine its predecessor by miles and we cannot wait to see what this game has to offer.
