4. Blood Death Knight

I know that at this point you are fed up with frozen jokes but, Let It go, my friend!

I love playing with the Arcane spec, but I admit that Frost Mage rules!

This class spec is one of the best-sustained single-target and cleaves damage! Frost Mage has excellent mobility and kiting skills and built-in Cooldown Reduction, some of which increase with more targets. How not talking about PVP? Frost Mages have battlefield control with many tools to slow and root enemies!

2. Feral Druid

Having Trouble Deciding What Class To Play?

While delving into the perilous mines of the alien planet Hoxxes IV, every dwarf has a role to play. But what is yours? In this article, we'll go on a deep dive into each of the classes in Ghost Ship Games’ first-person co-op shooter, Deep Rock Galactic, and help you determine which dwarf is right for you.

The Scout

"Yeah, I don't so much "scout" as make this operation possible."

First up is the Scout. Equipped with the Grappling Hook and Flare Gun, every inch of every cave is your playground. By far the fastest class, the Scout’s main role is mining hard-to-reach minerals and subsequently falling to your death. If you choose to play the Scout. you will spend more time down than any other class. Until you unlock the “Hover Boots” perk, that is, which is an absolute must-have.

Don't mistake certain death for a lack of fun. Zipping around with the Grappling Hook is by far one of the most satisfying experiences in Deep Rock Galactic. As the Scout, your choices for primary weapons are the Deepcore GK2, a reliable assault rifle. The M1000 Classic, a semi-automatic rifle with extreme precision, and, finally, the DRAK-25 Plasma Carbine, a supercharged machine gun, that fires plasma balls through the air at insane speeds.

In terms of secondary weapons, the Jury-Rigged Boomstick, a sawed-off double-barrel shotgun, and the Zhukov NUK17, a pair of dual weld machine pistols, are both wonderful for rounding out your build. The Scout's newest weapon, the Nishanka Boltshark X-80 is a crossbow, equipt with high-tech arrows. All of these weapons are customizable with devastatingly fun overclocks. Like the “Cryo-Minelets” overclock for the Zhukov, which lay down mini ice mines for enemies to trip over. The Scout, when paired with the Engineer, is one-half of the best two-person team possible in Deep Rock Galactic.

The Engineer

"Turrets and explosions...you've come to the right place."

Next up, the other half of the dynamic duo, the dance commander himself, the Engineer. When paired with a Scout, the Engineer’s Platform Gun becomes essential for bleeding the caves of Hoxxes dry of every last mineral. Though it’s difficult for you to climb up to these high places, platforms are perfect landing pads for the Scout and his Grappling Hook. Platforms are also useful for bridging gaps and shaping the terrain anywhere your team plans to make a stand.

The Engineer is a master of crowd control. Use the Proximity Mines and Sentry Guns to cover your back, or throw a L.U.R.E grenade to draw the bugs together and blast them all to hell with the Deepcore 40mm PGL grenade launcher. These techniques paired with the LOK-1, a smart rifle that targets enemies for you, make it pretty difficult to get overrun as the Engineer.

This is why the Engineer may just be the perfect class to play if you are a beginner or are playing by yourself. Another reason to play Engi solo is that you'll have every supply drop all to yourself. And you'll need it because your turrets and weapons are unbelievably ammo hungry. These bullet-eating machines include the “Warthog” Auto 210, a pump-action shotgun, the Stubby Voltaic Submachine Gun, and the Breach Cutter, a powerful heavy weapon that fires beams of energy, perfect for mowing down swarms and dealing major damage to bosses.

The Gunner

"So what if I like really big guns?"

If you thought the Engineer was an ammo guzzler, then oh boy, do I have a surprise for you. Unleashing 15 rounds a second, the Gunner has one purpose and one purpose only: To kill anything that moves. His traversal tool, the Zipline Launcher, can give your team a way to overcome steep climbs and span-wide gaps. It can also provide you with the perfect vantage point to rain hellfire down from above.

Your Gunner's main instrument of destruction could be the “Lead Storm” Powered Minigun, which requires no reloading, just adequate cool-down time. Or if you don't mind reloading, the “Thunderhead” Heavy Autocannon will allow you to blast away to your heart's content. Or perhaps the idea of just pointing and shooting is boring to you. In that case, the Hurricane Guided Rocket System is your dream come true. Once fired, these rockets follow your crosshair, allowing you to swing them through the air and pummel enemies from otherwise unthinkable angles.

Although the Gunner’s first priority is to take down enemies, he does have another important role. The Gunner’s Shield Generator creates an impenetrable dome, allowing just enough time to revive any downed teammates. This ability has turned the Gunner into the de-facto medic of Deep Rock Galactic. When battling against dreadnoughts, if your team's Gunner is still alive, you’ve still got a chance.

The Driller

"Obstacle? More like a granite smoothie when I'm done."

Last, and certainly not least, is the Driller. Using two Reinforced Power Drills to cut through rock like it’s butter, the Driller can go literally anywhere. Whether that’s straight back to the drop pod for a quick escape or just down until you hit bedrock. If you can see it on the map, the driller can get there. Of all the classes, this is the one that truly embodies what it means to be a dwarf. After all, no other class gets to throw axes.

Destruction truly is the name of the game for the Driller. Using your drills or your satchel charge (a highly destructive bomb with a notorious reputation for killing entire teams with a single detonation), the Driller’s job is to break down any and all obstacles in your team's way. And in a procedurally generated, completely destructible cave, he’s really in his element.

Speaking of elements, the Driller’s primary weapons all utilize unique elemental status effects. The CRSPR Flamethrower lights your enemies ablaze, draining their health as they burn. The Cryo-Cannon turns bugs into ice sculptures, making them vulnerable to other weapons. And finally, the Corrosive Sludge Pump shoots goo that acts as an acidic glue trap, melting even the largest Glyphids down to the bone. As for secondary weapons, the Experimental Plasma Charger, when given the “Thin Containment Field” modification, can destroy terrain and break minerals off walls, making any mission without a Scout much more profitable.

What The Driller Excels In:

Digging a tunnel straight back to the escape pod for an easy victory

10. Magica Nightblade

Unlike Stamina Nightblade, Magica Nightblade lacks full damage. And that was an important skill for this class. In these ESO times, taking people out off stealth is too easy. So if that is not adjusted in near future, Magica Nightblade might become a dying class.

Although this class is not the best for PVP, PVE is a joyride. There are lots of great skills like Swallow Soul and Sap Essence. Both are great for damage and healing. Magicka Nightblade doesn’t have a class burst heal option. So you need to keep healing at all times to survive.

With Twisted Path, you have a nice shield. And using Lotus Fan skill you can cross distances quickly.

What Magica Nightblade Excels In:

Mobility.
AOE.
Healing while attacking.
Stealth.

Pick Magica Nightblade if:

You like stealthy gameplay.
If you are more a PVE than a PVP player.
If you like to teleport across the battlefield.

9. Magicka Dragonknight

Magicka Dragonknight is not as good as Stamina Dragonknight. Skills are pretty expensive so you need to use reduce cost glyphs. Magicka Dragonknight doesn’t do much damage, and this class is good for team play. They have a lot of team buffs. So get ready to tank and try not to be outnumbered in battle.

Magicka Dragonknights have access to class-based burst heal abilities. Burning Ambrose heals based on the damage you’ve done. Coagulating Blood is great for heal while Draw Essencedoes AOE damage and heals you at the same time.

Ferocious Leap ultimate is cheap, deals great damage, and grants you a shield. It is a good skill for defeating bosses.

What Magicka Dragonknight Excels In:

Tanking.
Strong Ultimates.
Healing.
Great for team play.

Play Magicka Dragonknight If:

You are a team player.
Like to tank and heal players.
Use dragon skills.

8. Stamina Nightblade

One of the most popular classes and most challenging. Their attacks are powerful for a single enemy and that makes Stamina Nightblade great in PVP. But they struggle against groups. They lack in defense only armor abilities because it just comes from passive skills.

To compensate for your defense problem, you need to upgrade your AOE weapon skills. Brawler ability will give you a free damage shield. Dual skill, Deadly Cloak gives you passive defense. Whirlwind Blades is Stamina Nightblade's execute ability.

This class also suffers from self-healing and resource management. However, you can improve your chances by upgrading your Leeching Strike ability from the Siphoning skill line. It can heal you based on your light and heavy attacks while also restore Stamina. Rally from a Two-Handed skill line is also good for healing. And you can use Vigor, a PVP assault skill.

Practice makes it perfect.

What Stamina Nightblade Excels In:

Single target attack.
Stealth.
Mobility.

Play Stamina Nightblade If:

You like to play one-on-one.
If you like to teleport across the battlefield.
If you are a PVE fan because AOE abilities are great for this class.

7. Stamina Dragonknight

This class characterizes in dealing great damage over time. You can quickly acquire Noxious Breath, a skill that is of great importance to your Dragonknight. The main weakness of this class is self-healing. Especially early on at a lower level.

The best healing skill in the Stamina Dragonknight skill tree is Cauterize. Great skill but one of the last you get. So the best thing to do early in the game is to level up Fighter’s guild skill line, and the skill called Ring of Preservation witch is a morph of Circle of Protection. Also, a good healing skill is from the Alliance skill line named Vigor.

Dragonknight skill line has great Ultimates. Standard of Might is good for tanking, and for the whole party in general. When you are in its circle, it increases damage dealing and decreases damage taken. Magma Shell is great, especially for PVP.

In combination with Molton Shell, you can’t go wrong with a two-handed weapon.

What Stamina Dragonknight Excels In:

Damage over time.
Strong Ultimates.
Heavy attack style.

Play Stamina Dragonknight if:

If you like a long and tactical fight.
If you are into heavy weapons.
If you like to tank.

6. Stamina Templar

This class can be one of the best classes but you need to invest your time in it. Stamina Templar has great buffs and passives from their class line. And because of their cool stamina morph abilities, they are a good solo option.

Baiting Jabs is a great spammable ability witch gives you a passive weapon critical bonus and minor protection. Power of Light is a great boost DPS tool that also debuffs the enemy. They have two sustain skills in Repentance and Restoring Focus. That means you can build very high damage on Stamina Templars without having to worry about stamina sustain.

Extended Ritual is a great healing Magicka-based skill that can come in handy if your health drops.

What Stamina Templar Excels In:

Great buffs and passives.
They got great spammable and DPS abilities.
Great healing from the combination of Magicka and Stamina skills.

Play Stamina Templar If:

You like to play alone.
If you like to buff yourself and debuff your enemies.
You love to spam your opponent.

5. Stamina Warden

Stamina Warden is without a doubt one of the strongest stamina builds in the game. They have overwhelming buffs and debuffs. And your main issue will be: Which buff to use?

Your main spammable skill will probably be Subterain Assault for its massive burst of AOE damage. Growing Swarm debuffs enemies and Ice Fortress is one of the best armor buffs there is.

You can choose to go with a two-handed or dual weld build, either way, it is a lot of fun. Great experience comes also from bow builds.

The downside of this class is the Ultimates. Maybe the best option for your Ultimate is Bear Guardian. It is not bad for AOE or attacking a single target. But one thing is for sure, it looks cool to have a pet protector.

What Stamina Warden Excels In:

It has good buffs and debuffs.
Great healing.
Great armor.
Great attacking skills.

Play Stamina Warden If:

You like to combine diverse playing styles.
You like to let it all out without worrying about your health.
If you love to have a bear and/or a jellyfish for a companion.

4. Magicka Warden

Magica Warden is a very similar setup. In terms of healing, this class is slightly better. Most healing abilities cost Magicka, and both morphs of the Livin Bind skill can heal you for the whole battle.

Magicka Warden has better AOE damage with frost Magicka abilities. If you use the Winters Revenge skill it applies debuff for critical damage. And with the critical damage-focused Ice Mage, losing isn’t an option. That kind of power is a very good experience for solo play.

In the end, it all depends on which playstyle is fun for you.

What Magicka Warden Excels In:

It has good buffs and debuffs.
Even better healing.
Great armor.
Great attacking skills.
Good critical damage.

Play Magicka Warden If:

You like to combine diverse playing styles.
You like to let it all out without worrying about your health.
If you love to have a bear and/or a jellyfish for a companion.

3. Stamina/Magicka Necromancer

For the third place, we need to merge Stamina and Magicka Necromancer because they are nearly identical. Stamina Necromancers use Stamina skills and Magicka Necromancers are going with the Magicka version.

Necromancer class benefit from some of the strongest passives in the game. They get sustain and recovery for free, bonuses for maximum Health and bonus critical chance.

When we talk about the active abilities, Blast Bones is very cheap to cast and it is as strong as an Ultimate. Skeletal Archer and Siphon grant you strong passive damage. Scythe skill is great for AOE damage and it heals. For passive defense, you have the Spirit Guardian. Pestillian Colossus is one of the strongest Ultimate in the game.

The downside of Necromancer is buff management. Their buffs have a short duration, and some abilities require corpses on the ground. With practice, this class can get you the satisfying experience you need.

What Stamina/Magicka Necromancer Excels In:

Passives.
Buffs and debuffs.
Great Ultimate.
Healing.
AOE damage.

Play Stamina/Magicka Necromancer If:

You enjoy reanimating corpses.
You are good at buff management.
Active, fast, and fun gameplay is your thing.

2. Stamina/Magicka Sorcerer

For our runner up we have prepared a merged Sorcerer class! Like the Necromancer Class, Magicka and Stamina Sorcerers are nearly the same. They have their versions of skills and both are of great power.

Stamina Sorcerers are the strongest Build in the game because of their powerful passives that recover stamina and health. While the Magicka Sorcerer has the strongest damage shield in the game called Harden Ward. Ark Conversions trade Stamina for Magicka and is very useful for the Magicka version. Bound armor gives them more passive Magicka and resistance.

They can summon up to three pets, Atronach, Familiar, and Twilight. They can do damage for Magicka Sorcerers and help him survive. Sorcerers have the strongest healing abilities.

With Force Sustain, Stamina Sorcerers can recycle unused Magicka back to Stamina. Dark Deal is great for healing. Hurricane grants them armor, movement speed and does AOE damage. Critical Surge is the best passive in the game, it heals you as long as you are dealing damage.

The combination of damage and healing is what makes this class number two on our list.

AOE damage.
Best healing.

PVP and PVE.

Play Stamina/Magicka Sorcerer If:

If you like to heal and do damage.

1. Magicka Templar

And the winner on our list, the great, the mighty, deserved champion, Magicka Templar!

This class is the powerhouse of self-healing, AOE damage, and defense. Their main spammable is Puncturing Sweep that can heal Magicka Templar for the percent of damage done. While dealing damage you are healing

They have multiple AOE effects: Blazing Spear, Reflective Light, Solar Barrage. You can combine them with Puncturing Sweep for great AOE damage.

Radiant Glory is Magicka Templar's ace in the sleeve. It burns the enemy, deals magic damage, and at the same time, it heals you. Honor the Dead is a great burst heal that heals Magicka as well.

Passives are extremely strong for healing and defense. And the Ultimate healer/damage dealer combo is great for PVE.

With all the passives, AOE effects, buffs for Magicka, and health, Magicka Templar is a well-deserved number one class on our list!

Can you guess which class is the strongest?

Not everything in this world is created equal. Some animals are just faster. Some humans are just more beautiful. Some are tall. Some are short. Simply put, the same logic applies to the classes of Dungeons and Dragons. Although playing a powerful fantasy warrior is fun and all, some classes can just do it better.

If you are looking for an objective and calculated information about which DND class are just better, then this article is for you.

Side Note: Before I show you the classes and their ranks, know that they had to pass certain standards, namely: how good they are in combat, how good they are in exploration, how good they are in social interactions, and, finally, how flexible they are in terms of team roles.

In terms of rubrics, it will look like this (with ‘5’ being the best score):

Combat: 1 – 5 (Things to factor: health, armor, weapons, spells, class features)
Exploration: 1 – 5 (Things to factor: skills, tools, spells, class features)
Social: 1 – 5 (Things to factor: skills, tools, spells, class features)

Whenever I hear the word ‘Barbarian’, the famous characters that immediately come into mind are big, muscly warriors who don’t wear any clothes except for a piece of loin cloth and a pair of fur boots (I’m talking about you, He-Man and Conan!)

Barbarians are the embodiment of anger. Their fighting style heavily relies on brute force and carnage. Players who love the idea of mindlessly wading into battle by kicking the door down will surely find the Barbarian a fun class to play.

But in terms of overall gameplay, the Barbarian (together with the Monk) is very limited.

In combat, nothing can equal the sheer physical power of a barbarian. They boast the highest health in the game. And not only that, but their core feature – Rage – practically doubles their health and further increases their damage output. It will have to take an army to bring a barbarian down. But the reason why it belongs in the lowest of the ranks is because they are only good in combat. And that’s it. And DND is a role-playing game where combat is just one aspect.

With that said, here are the scores of the Barbarian:

COMBAT

The only class with a d12 Hit Die, a core feature that effectively doubles his total health, and a constant way to use Advantage to fish for critical hits, the Barbarian is surely a savage in combat.

Score: 5

EXPLORATION

With little to no Wisdom score and no access to spells, his exploration skills can’t really be effective.

Score: 2

SOCIAL

With almost no Charisma score and only Intimidate as a social skill, nobody really likes to talk to a Barbarian.

Score: 2

ROLE VERSATILITY

The Barbarian can only fit two roles: tank and melee damage-dealer.

Score: 2

OVERALL

Score: 11

But even if the Barbarian does not excel in many things, don’t let this ranking discourage you from playing one because I’m pretty sure no one can outshine you in battle (except that you’ll be very bored during social interactions and would rather crush a hapless city guard’s skull just so you can start a fight).

To summarize, play a Barbarian if you want to:

Go to battle shirtless
Be always angry
Wield a giant battle axe
Experience a lot of pain

But don’t play one if you don’t want to:

Just be the ‘axe’ guy
Be a stupid moron inside a city

Rank 7 – The Monk

If it really weren’t for Bruce Lee who brought Chinese martial arts into the movie industry of Hollywood, the Monk class would not have been added into DND. (Seriously, think about it. The original monks were actually Catholic scholars. And I don’t think those are fun to play in DND).

Monks are the martial arts people in the DND multiverse. They are also the poorest (since they don’t care about material possessions). Players who love the idea of playing a character who can supernaturally defy the laws of physics without the help of magic who can also kick ass will love the Monk class.

But just like the Barbarian, the Monk is just that: the Kung-Fu guy (although he’s literally a master of it). Don’t get me wrong, playing a character who can do a ‘Hadouken’ is pretty awesome. But outside of combat, the Monk falls flat. Very flat. Yes, he can play a leaf flute in a bustling city and probably attract some people, but that’s about it. He has no way of improving his social interaction skills.

With that said, here are the scores of the Monk:

COMBAT

Yeah, the monk is cool and all with his Kung-Fu but his core feature discourages him from wearing any armor knowing that he does not have the health of the Fighter. Plus, his Ki powers are not sustainable in combat.

Score: 3

EXPLORATION

Although he has the Wisdom score, it’s kind ‘a weird that he doesn’t have the Perception skill knowing that Monks are, you know, supposed to be observant. But he does have Athletics and Acrobatics which can help his team get to hard-to-reach places.

Score: 3

SOCIAL

There’s a downside to a life of being a hermit.

Score: 1

ROLE VERSATILITY

The Monk usually fills the role of melee damage-dealer but because of some subclasses, he can also fill the role of healer, scout, and even ranged damage.

Score: 4

OVERALL

Score: 11

But, again, don’t let this ranking discourage you from playing the Monk class because it is the only class closest to an anime warrior. And, who doesn’t want to play Naruto?

To summarize, play a Monk if you want to:

Be the most badass warrior
Use nothing but your fists
Defy the laws of physics

But don’t play one if you don’t want to:

Be the person who can’t hoard gold
Be the person who can’t use awesome demonic armors
Be the socially awkward friend

Rank 6 – The Fighter

The beautiful thing about Fighters is that they come in all shapes and sizes: a knight, a gladiator, an archer, a fencer, a mercenary, a soldier, a pirate, a tribal warrior, a samurai (you get the idea).

Fighters are the embodiment of fighting. Since, you know, the name says it all? If you are the type of player who wants to use weapons and armors and likes to play a straightforward game, then choose the Fighter class.

Unlike the Barbarian and the Monk, the Fighter is not just the ‘king’ of combat, but it can also carry its own weight during exploration and social interactions – although not as good as the other classes. But the best parts about the Fighter class are its ability to create a full turn after taking a turn (Action Surge), its feature to raise ability scores more than the standard rules can allow, and its ability to do FOUR ATTACKS with its Extra Attack feature (Extra Attacks can normally just do two attacks).

With that said, here are the scores of the Fighter:

COMBAT

Need I say more?

Score: 5

EXPLORATION

Aside from Athletics and Survival, the Fighter serves better when he is the bodyguard.

Score: 2

SOCIAL

Some Fighters can boost some Charisma in order to activate some leadership features. But the Fighter can at least talk in a civil manner.

ROLE VERSATILITY

The Fighter can fill four major roles: tank, melee damage, ranged damage, and scout.

Score: 4

OVERALL

Score: 14

To summarize, play a Fighter if you want to:

Characterize the many warrior archetypes across the world
Tank a lot of enemies
Be the King of Combat

But don’t play one if you don’t want to:

Get easily bored with repetitive sword attacks
Be the loudest idiot when sneaking in heavy armor

Rank 6 – The Sorcerer

If the Barbarian is the embodiment of anger, then the Sorcerer is the embodiment of magic. They can manipulate the very essence of magic like a master potter shaping clay.

Compared to the other full-caster classes, the Sorcerer is the ‘easiest’ to learn for those first-time players who want to play a spellcaster because its spells are geared towards heavy offense magic rather than subtle support. And we all know that blowing up stuff is quite easy to understand.

But despite the Sorcerer being the ‘weaver’ of magic, it is sadly very lackluster in actual play. Its Metamagic feature (the feature that lets him manipulate magic) is tightly limited by its very small pool of Sorcery Points (the energy used to activate Metamagic). They could have, at least, been generous to the amount of Sorcery Points to make the class standout among its peers. Because, sadly, the Wizard (who is not the definition of magic but the definition of a person studying the definition of magic) is still more powerful than him.

With that said, here are the scores of the Sorcerer:

COMBAT

Boasting the lowest health in the game and one of the classes who can’t use armor and weapons, a single dagger stab with a +3 modifier can immediately erase a Sorcerer.

Score: 3

EXPLORATION

Even if the Sorcerer has no scores in Wisdom and Dexterity, he makes up for it with his spells (assuming he ever selects an exploration spell with his very limited Spells Known feature)

Score: 3

SOCIAL

Since he is a Charisma spellcaster, being notoriously beautiful is a given for any Sorcerer.

Score: 4

ROLE VERSATILITY

The Sorcerer usually fills the role of ranged damage-dealer, face, and support but because of some subclasses, he can actually also fill the role of healer. Surprisingly.

Score: 4

OVERALL

Score: 14

But don’t be too sad because even if the Wizard is more powerful than the Sorcerer, we all know that the Wizard can’t ever get a cute girl (or a boy) because he’s just too big of a nerd compared to the Sorcerer who has the face of Brad Pitt.

Be the Master of the Four Elements (not you, Monk)
Feel magic coursing through your veins
Shape the very fabric of the universe

But don’t play one if you don’t want to:

Be insecure by the Wizard
Die immediately by the hands of a goblin

Rank 5 – The Wizard

(Speaking of the devil, the Wizard sits right above the Sorcerer in the ranks list. Can you imagine the Wizard together with his imp familiar laughing mockingly at the hapless Sorcerer?)

When you hear the word ‘Wizard’, an old, bearded man in heavy robes wearing a pointed hat and holding a wooden staff comes to mind. Because that description is the exact description of Gandalf and Merlin – two of the greatest wizards in literary history (and no, Harry Potter is not included).

The Wizard is the quintessential spellcaster. A player who plays this class must be nerd enough to read all of the existing spells ever published in Dungeons and Dragons. And not just that, he must know how not to confuse character levels from spell levels, how to distinguish a verbal spell from a somatic spell to a spell that needs material components, and how to micromanage his spellbook and prepared spells. Overall, having a Wizard in a team is always good news.

With that said, here are the scores of the Wizard:

COMBAT

The Wizard has really low health, no armor, and no weapons. An enemy archer can instantly kill him, especially if he forgot to prepare the Shield spell.

Score: 3

EXPLORATION

Because of his access to a lot of spells, the Wizard can greatly assist the party during adventures.

Score: 5

SOCIAL

Because of his high Intelligence, skills relating to research, and charm spells, the Wizard is useful during social interactions.

Score: 4

The Wizard usually fills the role of ranged damage and support but because of the Bladesinger subclass, he can also get into melee combat.

Rank 5 – The Rogue

Rogues are your heroic scoundrels found in movies such as Zorro, The Princess Bride, Puss n’ Boots, and Captain Jack Sparrow (I love you, Johnny Depp, no matter what). They are usually depicted as thieves or assassins, but this is DND, you can get creative!

The Rogue class are for the players who likes to be sneaky and, for some odd reason, likes to bring a dagger to a dragon fight. They are the ‘Batmans’ of the DND multiverse with their utility belts filled with gears for any situation, their ability to learn many skills, and darkness as their beloved mother.

Inside a game session, your team can’t really survive a dungeon crawl if you don’t have a Rogue since it is one of the very few classes who has access to Thieves’ Tools which can open locks and disarm traps. So, if nobody wants to play this class in your party, be sure your DM has a kind heart.

With that said, here are the scores of the Rogue:

COMBAT

The Rogue has average health but unlike the Monk, he can fight from a distance and hide a lot as a bonus action. But other than that, he has no means of doing multiple attacks. So, if your Sneak Attack misses, that’s gonna be a really wasted turn.

EXPLORATION

The Rogue has a lot of skills and tools and has the ability score to supplement it. The only thing that he lacks is magic.

Score: 4

SOCIAL

Just like in exploration, the Rogue also excels in social situations. The only thing he lacks is still magic.

The Rogue is a very versatile class, filling a lot of roles except tanking and healing.

Rank 4 – The Paladin

Those are the words of a lawful good but party pooper Paladin.

The Paladin is the epitome of righteousness. They uphold their beliefs and principles ever so high that people who meet them will just stand in awe from their presence alone.

Paladins are for the players to have a deep sense of virtue and heroism within them. They are the players who are big fans of Captain America who believe that protecting the innocent and being their example for good is their life’s purpose.

The beauty about the Paladin is that they are the definition of tanks when in combat. They boast the highest armor (higher than a Fighter’s due to magic) and can bring down the pain with their explosive Smite! Plus, they’re quite handsome to look at too.

With that said, here are the scores of a Paladin:

COMBAT

The closest thing to a literal tank who can regenerate lost health.

Score 5

EXPLORATION

They can use their Divine Sense to locate monsters and have some skills that can help solve puzzles like Religion and Insight.

Score: 3

SOCIAL

Due to Charisma being their second-best score and have access to social skills, Paladins can function as the team’s face.

Score: 3

ROLE VERSATILITY

Aside from being the tank and damage dealer, the Paladin can also fill the role of face, support, and healer.

To summarize, play a Paladin if you want to:

Be a knight in shining armor

Rank 4 – The Ranger

The iconic woodsman, the iconic hunter, and the iconic archer, the Ranger class is the perfect class for players who want to play Robin Hood, Green Arrow, or Aragorn.

For so many years, the Ranger (although iconic) has been sitting at the very bottom of every class ranking. This is because the original Player’s Handbook version was so very bad. His Favored Enemy feature was bad. His Natural Explorer was bad. And even his Primeval Awareness was a much worse version from the Paladin’s Divine Sense.

But the year 2021 was the year of reckoning for this poor class because WoTC released their latest rulebook, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything. And from there, the Ranger has finally returned to his former glory.

The Ranger is actually a really solid class to play. The very definition of a survivor, it is probably the most important class for a team when they do decide to explore the world. Plus, he has very many ways to boost his combat damage through features and spells.

With that said, here are the scores of the Ranger:

COMBAT

With the health of a Fighter and access to strong weapons, druidic spells, and an animal companion, the Ranger can easily dispatch enemies no matter how strong.

Score: 5

EXPLORATION

This class was born to explore. Everything about his kit is exploration.

Score: 5

SOCIAL

Except for social interactions.

Score: 1

ROLE VERSATILITY

Except for party face, the Ranger can fill all roles including healing.

Score: 5

Rank 3 – The Artificer

The Artificer is the answer to those players who want to play an adventuring engineer, blacksmith, or scientist. Their magic is stranger than those of the Wizard’s because an Artificer’s magic comes from the essence of an object. They draw out the magic hiding inside a piece of weapon, armor, or a vial of ordinary water.

Because they can easily create magical items, the Artificer is actually a very good addition to an adventuring party. Although it is not friendly to beginners, playing an Artificer is rather fun when you can replicate a bag of holding anytime and summon robots to aid you in battle.

With that said, here are the scores of the Artificer:

COMBAT

Even though it can fill a lot of roles, the Artificer only has half the tankiness of the Fighter and half the damage of the Ranger.

Score: 3

EXPLORATION

Because the Artificer can produce all kinds of tools and magic items, he will always be a valuable member to an adventuring party.

Score: 5

SOCIAL

Because the Artificer has a high Intelligence score and access to research skills and magical equipment, he can do well in social interactions.

Score: 4

ROLE VERSATILITY

This class can tank, deal damage, heal, support, scout, and then some.

Score: 5

OVERALL

To summarize, play an Artificer if you want to:

Play Tony Stark
Have really cool hi-tech gadgets
Summon robots

Rank 3 – The Druid

The most iconic video game druid I have ever known is the druid in Diablo 2. I remember choosing him as my very first character because I loved the idea of summoning animals and transforming into a werewolf. Do you also have that fond memory?

The Druid class is Nature’s “Wizard” because the Wizard class has no access to plant and animal spells. At the same time, the Druid class is also Nature’s “Cleric” because if the Cleric class also worships a nature god, then there would be no need for the Druid class, ‘innit?

No matter, the Druid is the class for players who like to command the forces of nature: plants, weather, and animals. The beautiful thing about the Druid compared to the Wizard is that it is a far more versatile class. With access to armor, weapons, damaging spells, and healing spells, we can really see why the Druid class outshines the Wizard.

With that said, here are the scores of the Druid:

COMBAT

Asides from the already mentioned above, the Druid has more flexibility in terms of spellcasting since they can literally access ALL of their spell list compared to the Wizard who is limited to his spellbook. Plus, did I mention that Druids can transform into a T-rex?

EXPLORATION

Since they can transform into any kind of animal, exploring is their forte.

Score: 5

SOCIAL

The Druid is the cat-lady nobody wants to talk to.

Score: 2

ROLE VERSATILITY

Except for party face, the Druid can fill all roles in a party.

To summarize, play a Druid if you want to:

Call down literal lightning from the sky
Transform into hideous beasts

Rank 2 – The Warlock

The anti-hero. The warrior of darkness. The Edge Lord. The Warlock was the Wizard who found studying boring and tedious and decided to cheat his way through graduation – at a price. The Warlock may have access to powerful magic, but a part of his soul belongs to his Patron, a being of malevolence (usually). But that’s what you get for cheating.

The Warlock is probably the most interesting class in all of DND. True to his edge-lord attitude, he doesn’t follow the traditional rules of spellcasting. He has his own weird and confusing (at first) way of doing magic. But despite his unorthodoxy, the Warlock is a very flexible and effective class to play when you know what you’re doing.

With that said, here are the scores of the Warlock:

COMBAT

Although it can get repetitive, other spellcasters drool over the raw power of the ELDRITCH BLAST! What’s more, the Warlock can burst nova all of his spell slots because he can just recover them with a little short rest.

Score: 4

EXPLORATION

Because of his spells and, especially, Invocations, the Warlock is as effective as a Rogue in exploring.

Score: 4

SOCIAL

Because he uses Charisma to cast his spells and has access to spells and Invocations that boost social interactions, the Warlock can be your official party face.

Score: 5

ROLE VERSATILITY

Because the Warlock is so customizable from his choice of Patron to his choice of Pact Boon to his choice of Invocations, the Warlock can literally fit all kinds of roles.

Score: 5

OVERALL

Score: 18

To summarize, play a Warlock if you want to:

Be a good-looking Edgelord
Serve Dark Lords
Summon Demons

But don’t play one if you don’t want to:

Be the Edgelord of the group
Have a weird tension with the party Paladin and Cleric. And Wizard.

Rank 2 – The Bard

Ah, the Bard! The only class who has the power to seduce a dragon, and the class that every player picks if they want to bring anyone to bed.

If the Warlock is the Edge Lord of DND, then the Bard is the F**k Lord of DND. But it can’t be resisted because the Bard is very skilled in the art and magic of music, poetry, dancing, painting, and theatre. Now tell me, who wouldn’t fall in love with a Bard?

But humor aside, the Bard is one of the best character classes anyone can play. His core feature, Jack of All Trades, gives the Bard its identity that he can literally fill ANY role. Need a healer? The Bard can do it. No rogue in the group? The Bard can do it. Need a wizard? The Bard can do it. Need a fighter? You guessed it! The Bard can do it, too!

With that said, here are the scores of the Bard:

COMBAT

With access to weapons, armors, healing and damaging spells, the Bard can go toe-to-toe with a Fighter.

Score: 4

EXPLORATION

With Jack of All Trades as a core feature plus spells, the Bard can raid tombs all day.

Score: 4

SOCIAL

Just like how I explained it in Exploration but also has Charisma as its priority stat, DM’s will have a problematic time when Bards become horny.

Score: 5

ROLE VERSATILITY

Versatile is the Bard’s middle name.

Score: 5

OVERALL

Seduce every person you like inside the game
Be the Jack of All Trades
Burst into song and dancing a lot

Be the noisy and obnoxious party member

Rank 1 – The Cleric

In the old days, the Cleric class was supposed to be ‘just’ the healer class in DND. But nobody wanted to play the healer support person because everybody wanted a piece of the killing because it was understood back then that killing a monster earned more Experience Points. So DND decided to upgrade the Cleric class by giving him the armor and weapon of the Paladin class and the firepower of the Wizard class, accidentally creating THE MOST OVERPOWERED CLASS IN ALL OF DND.

But still, a lot of newbie players still see the Cleric as the ‘healer’ class. But you’re not a newbie player, you’re a badass veteran who has read the Player’s Handbook from cover to cover, emptying a dozen bottles of Mountain Dew in the process. You know that the Cleric can make the Fighter, the Paladin, the Druid, and the Wizard insecure because you’re not the ‘healer’ class anymore. You have now ascended into godhood!

With that said, here are the scores of the Cleric:

COMBAT

With the plate mail of the Paladin, the hammer of the Fighter, the firepower of the Wizard, and the spell versatility of the Druid, the Cleric is indeed a god.

Score: 5

EXPLORATION

Because he literally has a god behind him supporting his every move, exploration is but a breeze.

Score: 5

SOCIAL

The only reason the Cleric did not get a perfect score in this one is because he gets annoying when he tries to convert you by always bringing up the question, “Do you know where you’ll be going when you die?”

Score: 4

ROLE VERSATILITY

Need a tank? Need a healer? Need a nuker? Need a scout? Need a party face? Yeah, the Cleric can do all of that!

Score: 5

OVERALL

Score: 19

To summarize, play a Cleric if you want to:

Ascend into godhood
Command the power of divine lightning!
Let your allies kneel before you as they beg you to heal them

But don’t play one if you don’t want to:

Accept the greatest responsibility in all of DND

Baldur's Gate 2 Best Class - What To Pick

1. Warrior - Fighter

“Me axe be bloody ready!” Korgan Bloodaxe

To quote the game itself, the Fighter is a champion who “lives or dies by his knowledge of weapons and tactics.” A Fighter can be an extremely versatile character, easy and fun to play, with some very interesting kits as well.

Why Fighters are Great:

They can use any weapon and wear any armor, except mage robes.
Can spend over two points on weapon proficiencies.
Can achieve Grand Mastery with any weapon, by spending five proficiency points.
Fighters have percentile Strength.
Fighters have some excellent Class Kits, most notably the Berserker and the Kensai.

Pick the Fighter if:

You want a relatively simple playthrough.
You like to be the tank of your party and ram through your enemies
You want to be able to easily dual-class, somewhere down the road.

2. Warrior – Ranger

Rangers are warriors and woodsmen skilled with weapons and knowledgeable in the ways of the forest. While being almost as versatile as Fighters, Rangers come with several cool perks which make for a fun playthrough. Plus, Drizzt do’Urden is a Ranger – need I say more?

Why Rangers are Great:

They can use nearly any weapon and armor.
It is easier to roll ability scores of 90 or more with a Ranger.
Can choose a racial enemy and get a -4 THAC0 bonus to and +4 damage rolls bonus against it.
Have Stealth as a special ability.
Can charm animals/mammals.
Rangers unlock Druid spells at level 8 and can go as high as spell level 3.

Pick the Ranger if:

You enjoy roleplaying as a good, nature-protecting character.
You like Archery (look up the Archer Class Kit).
For some (weird) reason, you do not want Minsc in your party, or want to free up a slot for another companion.

3. Warrior – Paladin

Paladins are (exclusively) Lawful Good warriors, devoted to their code of chivalry and to the fight against evil. Paladins are essentially warriors buffed against evil, which is obviously helpful for most of the game. On the downside, your character race is limited to Human, and Paladins cannot dual-class.

Why Paladins are Great:

Can Turn Undead once they reach level 3.
They have the Detect Evil and Protection from Evil special abilities.
Can cast Cleric spells upon reaching level 9.
Paladins have a passive -2 bonus to all saving throws.
The Lay on Hands healing ability.

Pick the Paladin if:

You want a great fighter with extremely helpful special abilities.
You like fighting evil, for great justice!
You want to wield the awesome Purifier +4 bastard sword.

4. Priest – Cleric

Clerics are the ultimate support class. They are renowned healers, with their own spell book to boot (the Priest Scroll). Unlike Mages, Clerics do not need to learn new spells from scrolls. Instead, they learn them as they level up. Furthermore, Clerics can wear any armor and use a variety of weapons. The Cleric class is also extremely popular for dual-classing or multi-classing (as the second class).

Why Clerics are Great:

They are the best healers out there.
They have their own set of spells that they learn automatically.
Clerics can wear any armor and use practically any blunt weapon.
Have the ability to Turn Undead.

Pick the Cleric if:

You enjoy playing a supporting role in your party.
You like a character who is essentially a battlemage – a decent fighter that casts powerful spells as well.
You want to use it as a great dual-class or multi-class option.

5. Priest – Druid

“Yes, oh omnipresent authority figure?” Jaheira (technically a Fighter/Druid, I know, but I just had to have her on this list)

Basically, Druids are to the Priest class what Rangers are to the Warrior class. They are very much in tune with nature, sworn to protect its perfect balance. This is why Druids have a True Neutral alignment. Only humans and half-elves can become Druids. Like Clerics, Druids can use priest spells, albeit their set of spells is quite different (all nature-related) and somewhat limited.

Why Druids are Great:

Cool spells (Earthquake! Firestorm!)
Shapeshifting! A Druid can shapeshift into a wolf or bear, once per day.
Immunity to poison, starting at level 15.
Elemental resistance, starting at level 18.

Pick the Druid if:

You enjoy playing as a fighter, but with some very cool spells under your belt.
You like to switch between attack and support roles all the time.

6. Priest – Monk

Monks are priests who fight with their bare hands. Yup, you read that right. This is probably the most limiting class in the game: can only be human, cannot dual-class, cannot wear armor or use shields, can use only a few single-handed weapons. So why bother picking the Monk? Well, all those limitations come with an awesome set of perks!

Why Monks are Great:

Bonuses to saving throws vs. spells.
Unarmed attacks have the range of two-handed weapons and get THAC0 and damage rolls bonuses.
Extra unarmed attacks per round (as you level up).
Bonuses to AC vs. missile attacks (as you level up).
Immunity to Disease, Slow, Haste, Poison, Charm and to non-magical weapons (as you level up).
Monks get the Lay on Hands healing ability.

Pick the Monk if:

You want to become a true Lawful killing machine, without worrying too much about equipment.

7. Rogue – Thief

The Thief is your basic cloak-and-dagger class. They can open locks, find and disarm traps, detect illusions, hide in shadows, move silently and steal items from NPC’s. But with access to some awesome weapons like Katanas, Wakizashis and Scimitars and the ability to backstab, Thieves can be extremely dangerous on the battlefield as well. Any Race can choose the Thief class.

Why Thieves are Great:

Can set and disarm traps.
Can hide in shadows and move silently, essentially becoming invisible.
Can unlock doors and chests, can steal from NPC’s
Thieves are great for dual classing.
Thieves have some awesome Class Kits, like the Assassin and the Swashbuckler.
Backstabs!

Pick the Thief if:

You enjoy a more covert playthrough.
Any party needs a Thief – by taking on that role yourself, you free space for other companions.
You want to join the Thieves Guild (obviously).

8. Rogue – Bard

Bards are the Joker cards in the Rogue deck, being able to do a little bit of everything. They have a high Lore rating, can pick pockets as well as cast spells, and enjoy a wider choice of weapons and armor than Thieves.

Why Bards are Great:

Bards have the highest Lore rating of any Class.
They have the Bard Song special ability, which protects the party against fear.
Bards level up faster than other Classes.
The Blade is one of the most interesting Class Kits out there.

Pick the Bard if:

You are looking for a non-standard, improvise-as-you-go playthrough.
You enjoy experimenting all the time.
You do not like to take things too seriously.

9. Wizard – Mage

The Mage is a classic class (sic!) that needs no introduction. Obviously, mages cannot wear armor (only robes) and are limited to only a few weapons (staffs, daggers, slings and darts). Only humans, elves and half-elves can become Mages. They can learn almost any spell, with the notable exception of healing spells, which are reserved for Priests. However, you should consider specializing your Mage in one of the eight schools of magic, turning him/her into a true powerhouse!

Why Mages are Great:

Specialist Mages are a force to be reckoned with on the field of battle.
Casting powerful spells is one of the best parts of gameplay!

Pick the Mage if:

You like to strategize a lot.
You enjoy turning the battlefield into an apocalyptic scene.
You are good at making quick decisions and playing chess with your opponents.

10. Wizard – Wild Mage

“I am really, really, really, really, really sorry about what just happened.” Neera (of course!)

Wild Mages are a (relatively) new class in the BG world, first introduced with the Enhanced Editions. They mostly resemble Mages, with one very important difference – Wild Mages are unpredictable AF!

Whenever a Wild Mage casts a spell, there is a 5% chance of a Wild Surge, which can have a positive or negative outcome. Furthermore, they always have -5 to +5 adjusted range to their levels, every time they cast a spell.

Why Wild Mages are Great:

You can turn their unpredictability into an advantage, becoming more powerful than any other mage out there.
They have several very cool class-exclusive spells – Nahal’s Reckless Dweomer, Chaos Shield and Improved Chaos Shield.

Pick the Mage if:

You want to bring total mayhem with you, wherever you go.
You enjoy gameplay that is unpredictable and fun.

11. Wizard – Sorcerer

Sorcerers are probably the most powerful Wizard class. They sure don’t look the part at first: they cannot even scribe spells into their spellbooks as other Wizards do. While seemingly weak on lower levels, the Sorcerer class starts to truly shine as the game progresses, with devastating effects for your enemies.

Why Sorcerers are Great:

Instead of scribing spells, they learn them as they level up
A level 10 Sorcerer can cast a total of 26 spells, with no need to select and prepare them ahead of time. This number goes as high as 40 spells, by level 15.
As Arcane Spellcasters, Sorcerers have access to a load of class-exclusive items.
Arguably, the most powerful Class in the game.

Pick the Sorcerer if:

You have the patience to wait until higher levels to become powerful.
You want to truly obliterate your enemies.
You are ready to give up playing any other Class, once you try the Sorcerer.
